I'm in the mood for a cozy read. Had an intense summer, and I've started back up with school, so I'm just trying to read something lighthearted. I plan to finish this series.

Just curious, what tags are people using when they post bookish pictures? I’ve started using #book photography, but since I also go through it regularly I know it’s not nearly as active as you’d think. I want to find your pictures and reblog them!

please write how you like to write.
the first time i ever showed my story in progress to someone, it was all in lowercase. immediately, i was called on it.
"why's it in lowercase?" they ask. well, because i like it that way. "but it isn't correct." poets do it all the time. "but you're not a poet."
and instantly i went through and changed all the english and capitalization in my story and no longer enjoy writing it because this isn't how i wanted the story to be told. and often i think, if people enjoy reading it how the poets do it, why wouldn't they enjoy it when i did it?
so write how you like to write. all caps or no caps, add those commas, put as many periods as you like. write numbers (100) instead of numbers (one hundred), put authors notes in the middle of the paragraphs, and add limitless footnotes about silly things. start your sentences with 'and', or, 'or'.
break the fourth wall (page? cover) and address the reader, and parentheses and make jokes about your characters, be dramatic or be calm. describe every little detail about the window shades and the dust that collected on the sills over the years, or just simply say there was a house on the corner.
writing is about making your own rules and making the "laws" work for you and your stories.
someone out there will like it and appreciate it. someone out there will understand why you wanted the story told how you tell it. no one can tell your story better than you do in your own special ways.
so please, write how you like to write.

Reminder that the publisher that sent unsolicited and unconsented for sex toys to people is the SAME one still currently under boycott, and that this boycott is explicitly to not do promotion or reviews of their titles. This boycott has been going on since October of 2023, and since they have not responded it is still ongoing.
And yes, this includes any titles you may have on Netgalley (or other arc review sites).
"But wait, my feedback ratio!" I hear you cry.
There's a solution for that. When the boycott started I had about 2 SMP titles, and 1 I had just reviewed. And on NG using the "will not provide feedback" option negatively affects your feedback score, so no, I'm not suggesting that.
Here are the 3 "reviews" for the titles I had from the boycotted publisher.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then I have not requested or taken any of their titles that they've placed on "Read Now" to try to force an end to the boycott.
Doing this has not affected my acceptance rate for titles I request, by the way. Publishers who rejected me beforehand still do, publishers who generally accepted me still do, and ones where it was a 50/50 are still about the same.

My most surprising read so far of 2024?
Voyage of the Damned by Frances White
I was so surprised by this one! It was a Spin the Wheel pick from my “Need to read soon” wheel. I actually enjoyed this so much; it was fun, quirky, a little emotional. There was some plot twists that I wasn’t expecting, but it was also very predictable from the start of who was going to be the murderer. But actually getting there was fun and unexpected. I ended up giving this one a 4 stars, almost a 5 star rating.
My only gripe with it was that’s it’s listed as an Adult novel when it’s more of a New Adult, mostly YA vibes. The main character was very immature and content wise wasn’t very adult either in my personal opinion.
This version of the book is by @illumicrate from their January box Murder Mystery.
Have you read Voyager of the Damned?

Iron Flame concerns and thoughts???
Page 600:
*SPOILERS*
They have been rebuilding Aretia in the 6 years since it was burned down after the rebellion.. I dont recall it being mentioned how many survived or are currently living in Aretia and helping rebuild. It's also not mentioned how their economic situation is, but they don't seem to have much to bargain with, considering they can only promise weapons, they don't have yet might I add, to Tecarus in exchange for the luminary..
My concern is food... I'm guessing the people of Aretia must be supplying their own food, because they wouldn't have anything or anyone to trade with since they needed to stay hidden. So logically, they would have grown just what they needed to keep themselves, their livestock and the occational dragon alive and well fed. This would all be fine and make sense... Untill Violet and Xaden brings half of Basgiath..
Page 466:
Two hundred dragons and a hundred and one riders-nearly half the quadrant-strong. And more are coming, taking a slower route with hatchlings.
...And then Mira joins them aswell with 40 riders and 40 dragons...
This prompts Aretian forces to start search parties to look for any other riders who want to join the cause after learning the truth. We don't know how many riders are found by the patrols, but I'm guessing some must have been found, or they would most likely stop the searches, right?
And now they have joined another 100 plus of Fliers to the not even half rebuild city, and there is only mentioned ONE TIME about sheep for the dragons???
I get it's not Violets concern... But wouldn't she notice something if food was short? Not to mention her boyfriend is supposedly the.... Ruler? Commander? Leader? Heir? To the place, and he would probably ba aware of any issues and be concerned about an extra 2-300 mouths to feed... Not to mention the between 3-400 dragons and gryphons... 🙃
Oh yea.... And they want to BRING IN REFUGEES WHEN THEIR WARDS ARE UP???
Where does this magical food come from ? What are they trading with??? And fucking who????? Am I looking too much in to this??? Help 😭😭😭
