Found Some More Hatchetfield Lore!
tldr; at bottom
I remembered that one of the Lang brothers said that Wiggly is based off of Cthulhu, so I decided to do something digging on a piece of shit author, H.P. Lovecraft and y’all… Okay, I don’t know if it counts as lore, but Hatchetfield is right under our noses.
CW: H.P. Lovecraft’s writing is full of bigotry, and if you plan on reading it, prepare yourself. For example, there is an evil entity named Shub-Niggurath. Yeah.
I don’t like H.P. Lovecraft, nor do I enjoy his writing in general, so here are some things that people should look up if you want to find out Hatchetfield’s inspiration. More thoughts on why I cannot write about him are at the bottom.
Also! I do not look down or dislike people who enjoy H.P. Lovecraft’s writing and his creations, and would really love for people to continue to look into things I cannot. I hope my little notes help!
(I’ve linked the stories in pink!)
SPOILERS: Hatchetfield? I guess? The Cthulhu Mythos & The Dream Cycle.
Cthulhu Mythos:
Just read ‘The Call of Cthulhu’. Everything makes sense.
Miss Holloway is based off of a character named Horvath Blayne from ‘The Black Island, Being the Narrative of Horvath Blayne’.
Duke Keane is also taken from ‘The Black Island’.
The narrator of ‘The Call of Cthulhu’ is named Francis Wayland Thurston.
Professor Hidgens is based off of an art student named Henry who is known for being eccentric and living in solitude. (The Call of Cthulhu)
Emma Perkins is named after a ship called the Emma. The crew got into a battle with Cthulhu’s cult members, which resulted in the Emma having one survivor. (The Call of Cthulhu)
John MacNamara is based off of the police officer John Legrasse. (The Call of Cthulhu)
Willabella Muckwab resembles Lavinia Whateley, from ‘The Dunwich Horror’. She has a son, Wilbur Whateley (Wilbur Cross), whose father is the cosmic entity Yog-Sothoth (Wiggog Y’rath). Lavinia went missing on Halloween, and the assumption is that Wilbur killed her. 👀
The Black Book is the Necremonium.
There’s always professors somewhere.
The Dream Cycle:
LOL. The Dream Cycle is a collection of short stories surrounding dream cities. I honestly haven’t read anything about this other than brief stuff from the Wiki, but the connections are painfully obvious.
The word ‘oblivion’ is written in the Black Book. H.P. Lovecraft has a poem titled Ex Oblivione. The narrator sees a gate in his dreams and wants to get past it, but he can’t access it. He eventually does, though. Yikes. Read this post, picture Willabella Muckwab as the narrator for Ex Oblivione, and enjoy.
Bonus: Some of the covers of the magazine that published H.P. Lovecraft’s work (Weird Tales) are sprinkled throughout Hatchetfield.
Tumblr media
“Pete, get behind me! I’ve got a gun.”
“Steph… it’s a ghost. I don’t think that’s gonna do any good.”
Tumblr media
Rosary? Killer Track, much? Also, the art style for the Black Book kind of resembles this… huh.
-
Note: I had planned to read all of H.P. Lovecraft and the associated work, but the racism is too much for me. I can’t “separate the art from the artists”, especially when everything evil is so obviously and horrendously based on Black people, as well as other races. Again— Shub-Niggurath. Like, seriously?
It’s a huge bummer, because I have so many thoughts— like the implications behind Willabella Muckwab associated with Lavinia Whateley, and Wilbur Cross also being associated with Wilbur Whateley. So much is at our finger tips.
I’m still going to be writing other things, though!
I have more of the Black Book deciphered, so that’s exciting, especially since I actually got some stuff right in my first post. (It was looked at through a more religious lenses rather than an H.P. Lovecraft lenses, though.) BUT STILL. MY EYES HURTING FROM INTENSE SQUINTING SESSIONS WAS NOT FOR NAUGHT! And I know I state some of these things as if they’re facts, but they’re ‘probably based on’ stuff.
Alright. I’m off to read about physics, the concept of nothingness, and the æther in the name of theatre kid.
tldr; the Lang bros made a the TTRPG Call of Cthulhu homebrew and turned it into musicals.

I know everyone’s talking about Gojo as he’s the fan favorite but I really do think if this plan kills Yuuta it’s the most brutal death in the manga by a mile. And it’s so sad to me that no one’s really talking about that besides the few Yuuta fans out there.

Hello ranger’s apprentice fandom can we talk real quick about the stupidest thing Flanagan ever wrote
It’s about the bows. Yanno, the rangers’ Iconique™️ main weapon. That one. You know the one.
Flanagan. Flanagan why are your rangers using longbows.
“uh well recurve arrows drop faster” BUT DO THEY. FLANAGAN. DO THEY.
the answer is no they don’t. Compared to a MODERN, COMPOUND (aka cheating) bow, yes, but compared to a longbow? Y’know, what the rangers use in canon? Yeah no a recurve actually has a FLATTER trajectory. It drops LATER.
This from an article comparing the two:
“Both a longbow and a recurve bow, when equipped with the right arrow and broadhead combination, are capable of taking down big game animals. Afterall, hunters have been doing it for centuries with both types of bows.
However, generally speaking and all things equal, a recurve bow will offer more arrow speed, creating a flatter flight trajectory and retain more kinetic energy at impact.
The archers draw length, along with the weight of the arrow also affect speed and kinetic energy. However, the curved design of the limbs on a recurve adds to its output of force.”
It doesn’t actually mention ANY distance in range! And this is from a resource for bow hunting, which, presumably, WOULD CARE ABOUT THAT SORT OF THING!
Okay so that’s just. That’s just the first thing.
The MAIN thing is that even accounting for “hur dur recurves drop faster” LONGBOWS ARE STILL THE STUPID OPTION.
Longbows, particularly and especially ENGLISH longbows, are—as their name suggests—very long. English longbows in particular are often as tall or taller than their wielder even while strung, but especially when unstrung. An unstrung longbow is a very long and expensive stick, one that will GLADLY entangle itself in nearby trees, other people’s clothes, and any doorway you’re passing through.
And yes, there are shorter longbows, but at that point if you’re shortening your longbow, just get a goddamn recurve. And Flanagan makes a point to compare his rangers’ bows to the Very Long English Longbow.
Oh, do you know how the Very Long English Longbow was mostly historically militarily used? BY ON-FOOT ARCHER UNITS. Do you know what they’re TERRIBLE for? MOUNTED ARCHERY.
Trust me. Go look up right now “mounted archery longbow.” You’ll find MAYBE one or two pictures of some guy on a horse struggling with a big stick; mostly you will actually see either mounted archers with RECURVES, or comparisons of Roman longbow archers to Mongolian horse archers (which are neat, can’t lie, I love comparing archery styles like that).
Anyway. Why are longbows terrible for mounted archery? Because they’re so damn long. Think about it: imagine you’re on a horse. You’re straddling a beast that can think for itself and moves at your command, but ultimately independently of you; if you’re both well-trained enough, you’re barely paying attention to your horse except to give it commands. And you have a bow in your hands. If your target is close enough to you that you know, from years of shooting experience, you will need to actually angle your bow down to hit it because of your equine height advantage, guess what? If you have a longbow, YOU CAN’T! YOUR HORSE IS IN THE WAY BECAUSE YOUR BOW IS TOO LONG! Worse, it’s probably going to get in the general area of your horse’s shoulder or legs, aka moving parts, which WILL injure your horse AND your bow and leave you fresh out of both a getaway vehicle and a ranged weapon. It’s stupid. Don’t do it.
A recurve, on the other hand, is short. It was literally made for horse archers. You have SO much range of motion with a recurve on horseback; and if you’re REALLY good, you know how to give yourself even more, with techniques like Jamarkee, a Turkish technique where you LITERALLY CAN AIM BACKWARDS.
For your viewing enjoyment, Serena Lynn of Texas demonstrating Jamarkee:
Tumblr media
Yes, that’s real! This type of draw style is INCREDIBLY versatile: you can shoot backwards on horseback, straight down from a parapet or sally port without exposing yourself as a target, or from low to the ground to keep stealthy without banging your bow against the ground. And, while I’m sure you could attempt it with a longbow, I wouldn’t recommend it: a recurve’s smaller size makes it far more maneuverable up and over your head to actually get it into position for a Jamarkee shot.
A recurve just makes so much more SENSE. It’s not a baby bow! It’s not the longbow’s lesser cousin! It’s a COMPLETELY different instrument made to be used in a completely different context! For the rangers of Araluen, who put soooo much stock in being stealthy and their strong bonds with their horses, a recurve is the perfect fit! It’s small and easily transportable, it’s more maneuverable in combat and especially on horseback, it offers more power than a longbow of the same draw weight—really, truly, the only advantage in this case that a longbow has over the recurve is that longbows are quicker and easier to make. But we KNOW the rangers don’t care about that, their KNIVES use a forging technique (folding) that takes several times as long as standard Araluen forging practices at the time!
Okay.
Okay I think I’m done. For now.

I’m still trying to finish up Chapter 8 of Rival Firefighters 🚒 but got some Chapter 9 (which is Buck’s POV) inspo today and well … here ya go
Two days had passed since the fateful incident at the pier, but for Buck, each moment felt like an eternity, the weight of guilt and self blame hanging heavy on his shoulders like a boulder, threatening to crush his spirit and consume him whole.
Every time he closes his eyes, memories flash across his eyelids, playing over and over in his mind like a never-ending nightmare - the sight of the tsunami crashing against the pier, the image of Chris's terrified face, the desperate struggle to hold on as chaos crashed into them. Buck can still feel his hold slipping from the fire engine, the fear he saw in Chris’s eyes before he was swept away when the ocean receded.
He had failed Chris and Eddie in the worst possible way.
His best friend had trusted him with his son, the most precious thing he has, and Buck had fucked up.
Big time.
He’s the reason Chris was on the pier when the tsunami hit. The reason Chris will have nightmares and be afraid of an ocean he once loved, the events of that day haunting him in ways for the rest of his life.
How could Buck face Eddie and Chris again without feeling like a failure, knowing that he was the reason that Chris had been in danger?
He should’ve just stuck to their original plans of going to the movies.
Fuck, Eddie is never going to let Buck look after Chris again.
And the thing is, Buck can’t even blame him.
He gets it.
Buck had been responsible for protecting Chris and he’d failed.

i was trying to think of what connection q!phil, q!charlie and q!quackity (and i guess elquackity) have because of the tickets today and i started to think about how q!phil has had bad relations with both q!quackity and q!charlie because they both have tried to kill chayanne, and then i remembered how charlie killed tilin so he had bad relations with q, and so on and so forth and then. a realization hit
q!charlie, q!quackity, elquackity and q!phil have all intentionally tried to kill an egg before. and i believe they are the only islanders to do so? (please correct me if i’m wrong on this)
like they’ve had either plans to kill an egg or multiple eggs (quackity, elquackity, charlie), intentionally killed an egg (charlie (killed chayanne but it didn’t count in the end)) or actually tried to kill an egg (charlie, phil, elquackity)
most people on the island have never intentionally tried or planned to kill any of the eggs except these four (again please correct me if i’m wrong) and with the latest post by quackity, during the november 4th event the tickets will lead to whatever the purgatory on the qsmp is right? which is connected to the eggs right? well how fitting the three special tickets to purgatory are assigned to the only people who have such a history with the eggs, don’t you think
#qsmp#qsmp philza#qsmp slimecicle#qsmp quackity#qsmp elquackity#also i know a lot of people know about charlie and quackity and elquackity trying to kill eggs#but the phil one might be not as known because it was early on so here’s the context:#charlie broke chayanne bed before the rule about bed breaking was set#so that he could get a gun for flippa#so he killed chayanne (wasn’t counted) and in revenge phil went and knocked him down#i think because rubius angel told him charlie killed chay?#and like the killing happened when phil was logged out to fix a bug charlie convinced him he had#so anyway after knocking out charlie phil attacked flippa#he tried to kill flippa as revenge to charlie for taking one of chayanne’s lifes i think#but flippa killed him with her gun instead and that’s how phil got his first death on the server#this is all about the qsmp characters btw i can’t be bothered to type the q! everytime#please correct me if i’m wrong on this i am but a humble q!philza main#with a limited language knowledge#i think the only other member with history of intentional egg deaths is rubius#but he’s not an average islander#his death relations were from making deals that’d lead to deaths (like charlie’s flippa gun deal)#the reason i’m highlighting ’intentionally’ so much is because that’s the connecting part here#like yeah mariana killed flippa but they were both accidents#i’m not counting tilin’s death here because that was unintentional#chayanne’s uncounted death wasn’t though like that was intentional as fuck#this whole post was brought to you by me remembering a post about how only a few islanders have gone and tried to kill eggs#like charlie with his attempted murder spree#shey rambles

Honestly I don’t think Rian Johnson should make anymore mystery movies. Not because I don’t think they’re pieces of art that deserve all the praise it gets
But there will never be any other movie that ages like the finest of wine more than Glass Onion

Someone: I’m so excited for this Caped Crusader version of Harley Quinn. She seems like she’s going to be interesting.
Caped Crusader news: Harley Quinn is now Asian. This is what she looks like.
Me: So…what part about this makes it seem like she’s going to be interesting? The design is cool, but we literally know nothing about her.

clone wars was fr like “No you lemur aliens CANNOT be pacifist. Don’t you know staunch pacifism is bad and will not keep you and your loved ones safe?!” but then the moment a blonde girl shows up the message was “oh wow well that’s different! So interesting! We will have rational conversations about your perspective and why you can have it!” despite the fact that it was at the detriment of the Mandalorian culture.
