One thing that was very interesting to me in this episode is the way Eddie was just... not joking about Buck's love interests.

That stuck out.

Usually when Eddie talks to Buck about his love interests, it's with an edge of fond exasperation, teasing laced around his gently delivered truths, but there was none of that this episode. Buck told Eddie he went to see Natalia and it was like something switched. Eddie's entire affect changed when Buck started talking about Natalia. He went from being loose and easy (as loose and easy as one can get when standing at a grave) to being... not combative, necessarily, but visibly actively not wanting to engage in conversation about her either, and it's not...

It's not even jealousy!! We joke a lot about Eddie and jealousy, but it wasn't that at all. It was a fatigue that comes with silence, that comes with holding your tongue, that comes with keeping secrets. Especially when Buck said that he feels like Natalia sees him. That look Eddie gave him immediately after? That was pure hurt. That was him saying I see you too, I've always seen you. But he can't say that. He can't say that, because to say that would be to say so many other things about the way he sees Buck, and to say so many other things would mean to have to unstick his tongue from the roof of his mouth about the ONE thing he's been holding onto ever since he was shot.

I don't know. I don't know, but I think Eddie taking Buck on a date and I think about how Eddie left his son—his heart—in Buck's care so they could bake cookies together (which becomes profoundly more significant in an episode where Christopher was talking about baking smores with his mom), and I think about Kenny saying Ryan has been doing some very nuanced work in the back half of this season, I'm like

Oh. Oh. I see it, thank you. Loud and clear.

(I really should be supply some context for the arts, damn. So these two were working together to uncover a conspiracy in their government and to end the war between their country and Ryan’s. A third country and its inside men were pushing that conflict for years, which some suspected but were silenced in various ways. Shane and Ryan independently came to the same conclusion when they got to power and then tried to do something about it.

Also, Shane isn’t a nobleman, he was a teacher, then got drafted and then moved all the way up the ranks to become the Marshal, appearing very good at war and political bullshit.)

for as long as I can remember "glass is a liquid" hay been my go to example of a "common misconception". and like, knowing what common misconception means you'd think that it wouldn't be too surprising to see examples in the wild of people believing it and yet

i think the funniest thing about me as a person is that i'm often a nervous wreck and terrified of trying new things or screwing up, but my disrespect for authority is so strong that the second someone tries to suggest that i can't do something because they won't let me or don't believe i'm capable of it, it completely overwrites my anxiety and makes me determined to prove them wrong right then and there. unfortunately combined with my general impulsiveness and impatience this used to make me very easy to manipulate if you understood this about me as well as leading me to take some really stupidly dangerous risks (until i started working on my self awareness and critical thinking), but it did also lead to several very funny moments in my life where someone misplaced a lot of confidence in my inability to fight back and got their shit rocked when i stepped up and called their bluff.

Two lesbian moms and their son in Granada’s The Return of Sherlock Holmes, the third season of 1984’s The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (AKA The Slashiest Adaptation). They hold on these three for, like, 4 seconds before returning to Holmes and Watson. The neighbourhood they’re in is an expensive one, home to a politician, and these ladies look to be fairly well to do. That might explain it.

Seriously though, mid-80’s. No one caught this until the past decade?!

Maybe it’s just me but I read a LOT of the Forgotten Realms AD&D sourcebooks in my youth, because my father had a pristine collection of first and second editions which I wasn’t allowed to touch on 🔪 pain of death. When he left the house, I would climb up atop his desk and pull them down from the high shelf, read them, and then replace them in perfect order… forbidden knowledge 😈

I was basically raised on AD&D lore lol so yeah there’s a lot bobbing around in my brain getting fished out for fanfic purposes. The sheer amount of Easter eggs and rare lore shoved into BG3 is giving me such life 🥰

So I usually post the excerpts in advance - and that's often before the chapters are edited! These mistakes were already fixed by the time you saw the excerpt <3333

That doesn't mean there won't be more though lol, if you ever see mistakes in the excerpt it can be worth waiting to still read the chapter because sometimes whole sentences have been changed/tightened from the excerpt that happens here, to the chapter actually being posted (this happens so often I'm surprised folks haven't pointed it out more aslfkjdsa)

The chapter gets more than one pass through from me before it goes up, and excerpts are usually the messiest version of the writing. :D

That being said, if you spot typos in the chapter/s when they go up please feel free to let me know! They still definitely happen.
