Februwhump Day 1: Helpless
Fandom: Star Wars Rebels
Summary: Kanan opens up about 66.
It was time. Kanan had never told anyone about order 66. He sat down with Hera and sighed. "Hey love, how are you doing?"
Kanan didn't answer. He looked at her.
"I know today is hard on you. Just let me know if you need anything." She stood, assuming like every year, he wanted to be alone.
"I felt helpless." He spoke. "I was helpless."
Hera turned around and sat back down in the pilot's chair. She watched Kanan as he shifted, trying to make himself more comfortable.
"When they killed my master, I had been walking with a few clones. The group was called the bad batch. They had some genetic mutations. That's probably what saved me." Tears already threatened to spill from his eyes.
"I heard shots. I turned around and the men were trying to kill her. I- I ran. She told me to. It was the last thing she ever said. The bad batch had ignored the order, other than one. They let me go."
The Jedi looked up at Hera for the first time since he started talking. "I was helpless. From then until I met you, I felt so helpless. It was like I couldn't get control of my own life. Rather it was the alcohol or the memories, I just couldn't."
The pilot grabbed Kanan's hand gently. "It's okay."
"I've only felt that helpless a few times. I watched her die Hera. I couldn't save her. I felt that way when Ezra fell back when the Grand Inquisitor died. I thought-" his voice broke. "I can't do that again."
Tears fell down his face. Hera pulled him into a hug. They stayed there for a minute before Kanan pulled back. "I feel helpless to fate."
    "It's going to be okay."
    "Okay."

didn't catch on at first, but then realized after seeing this post that the reason they get so suddenly protective of Omega is because of Order 66. 🥺
they personally witnessed what happened (and continues to happen) to the Jedi -- first Caleb Dume on Kaller, then the dead Jedi on the stretcher on Kamino, then Gungi. they heard Palpatine's message declaring that "the remaining Jedi will be hunted down and defeated". in the span of a second, they're realizing "oh Omega might have the Force. oh the Jedi have the Force. oh the same Jedi who were slaughtered, even the children, and are still being hunted, even the children?? OH SHIT"

Without hope, we have nothing.
(Spoilers and speculation included a bit further down)
This is actually a post about the Bad Batch and not Star Wars Rebels, but this bit is important so...
Try not to cry when you remember that Tech is the one who taught Hera Syndulla how to mask her ship's signature, a move that made her a massive threat to the Empire and a move that she often used to her advantage. She was such a threat to the Empire that they wanted to capture her alive so they could make an example of her for her years of defiance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then also try not to cry when you remember that when Hera was taken prisoner by the Empire, Kanan Jarrus sacrificed his life to free her and save the future of the Rebellion. Try not to cry when you think about the fact that Kanan Jarrus aka Caleb Dume was the Jedi padawan the Bad Batch protected (except for Crosshair) from the Empire during Order 66 by claiming Hunter killed him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hunter, Tech, Wrecker and Echo lied to the Empire to protect a Jedi.
And Tech taught Hera how to evade the Empire when the Bad Batch helped her family (Chopper included) escape Ryloth after being accused of treason.
Clone Force 99's actions had a direct outcome on the success of the Rebellion. They refused to commit treason against the Republic and all they did was commit treason against the Empire. They were strong enough to resist the effects of the inhibitor chip (Crosshair and Wrecker for awhile), outright ignored Order 66 (Hunter and Tech), or were tortured and turned partially into a machine against his will by the Techno Union and used as a weapon against the Republic who, upon rescue, immediately jumped back into Separatist territory and fucked their asses up (Echo). Luckily, with the help of Rex, they got their chips removed after Wrecker tried to kill all of them.
Everything under the cut is pure speculation. I'm having a galaxy brain moment, I just have no idea if it's pointing me in the right direction or not lol.
If you disagree with me, I don't need you to rudely tell me why.
After his time on Tantiss, Crosshair can now identify with Echo more than anyone else in the Bad Batch (and Tech if CX-2 is Tech).
When they went to rescue Echo, Crosshair is the one who snidely told Captain Rex that he would have left Echo behind too.
Which is exactly what happened to Crosshair when the Empire turned him into a weapon against his own brothers. He had no choice because the Empire attached him to a machine and amped up the effect of his inhibitor chip so he could not disobey orders.
Rex told Cody "I think Echo is still alive" and Cody told him that was impossible. Anakin accompanied him on this rescue mission with The Bad Batch (we know Cody would have too if he hadn't been injured).
I think that if Tech is CX-2, Crosshair already knows or highly suspects it. He's terrified of Tantiss. I think we're going to have a parallel moment of Crosshair possibly saying the same thing, knowing that he could never leave a brother behind again after what he went through, especially if CX-2 is Tech. (I also wouldn't be surprised if Omega suspected something after her trip back to Tantiss with CX-2.)
We never saw Echo's body after the explosion. Instead we got this image. An empty helmet and a droid arm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crosshair defected from the Empire when he witnessed the Empire tell him that Mayday was only a clone and not worth giving medical attention to. Those actions resulted in the death of Mayday and that's when Crosshair chose to shoot an Imperial officer between the eyes (similar to Dogma's execution of General Krell in many ways).
If Tech is CX-2, that is the second Bad Batcher the Empire has turned into an enemy against his brothers.
This is the last we saw of Tech.
Tumblr media
Hemlock was fucking lying when he said that Tech's glasses were all they recovered. Why the hell would he have found Tech's glasses and not Tech? All we see below him are clouds. And this is the last bit of Tech we see. That gun is in the shot with his glasses for a reason.
Tumblr media
I feel like this is going to parallel Echo's rescue from Skako Minor. Tech and Echo are both highly intelligent huge ass nerds (remember that the battle plans being used against the Republic were written by both Rex and Echo, and Cody acknowledged that Rex was one of their best strategists in the GAR) who always ended up working best together.
Part of me wonders if we are heading into a show centered on the clone troopers in a post Order 66 world going up against the Empire as they try to rescue more of their brothers. Enough to become a problem for the Empire.
Part of me also wonders if the inclusion of Force sensitive children in the Bad Batch means Rex will need to call Ahsoka into the fray. Wolffe has only appeared once so he hasn't even switched sides, let alone even started blocking Ahsoka's messages to Rex yet. During the Clone Wars she had to save Force sensitive children from Darth Sidious. During the Rebellion, the saved more Force sensitive children from Darth Sidious. It makes me wonder if she is also going to save Force sensitive children from this too? I might be reaching a bit too much here, but it could be a possibility! She seems to always show up when Force sensitive children need to be rescued from Darth Sidious.
No matter what ending we get for the Bad Batch, I know it's going to leave us with hope for the future because the message in Star Wars has always shown us that hope will always be stronger than fear.
A simple act of kindness can fill a galaxy with hope.
Without hope, we have nothing.
These episodes are all relevant to Echo's journey. The Domino Squad was referred to as a bad batch and Echo was the one who seemed to struggle the most with orders that conflicted with doing what needed to be done. He is the one who memorized the regulations manual after all. And now the Bad Batch are on a similar journey because they have never trusted regs before, but now it seems they might have to trust the regs to come to help them the way they helped Rex and Echo before the war ended. The way they helped Gregor after the war ended.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but that's a fanfic I can always write!! I don't want to get into who I think is going to die or survive, but I have my suspicions there too and I'm already in too much pain to keep going.

Ok, I know that I already reblogged @antianakin's post about why Anakin didn't need to murder an entire Tusken village because 2-3 of them killed his mom (original post here), but I just feel the need to talk about one of the most damning examples of why Anakin has no excuse for that response.
Post Order 66 Jedi/Clone interactions.
Let's just say, for the sake of the argument, that the entirety of the Tusken village--including the literal babies and children--all took part in the torture/murder of Shimi Skywalker. No exceptions.
Anakin's response to his mother's death is to murder everyone with no remorse or a second thought. Even when he confesses what he did to Padme, the RotS novel clearly shows that he doesn't actually feel bad about what he did. Most of his worry is about what others will think of him and, ironically, about how he's a "good Jedi" that should be better than this.
Now let's move on...
Every clone took part in Order 66 in some way.*
The clones murdered every single Jedi they could in cold blood (albeit without a choice), including the children, with only a miniscule few survivors. How many do we canonically have right now that didn't get captured and become Inquisitors? Obi-Wan, Quinlan, Cal, Caleb/Kanan, and Gungi are all I can think of at the moment.** That's 5 Jedi, out of thousands, that survived--and that's not even mentioning the destruction of their places of worship/cultural artifacts and the shitty propaganda spread about their culture.
* I'm not including the Bad Batch because, my own opinions about the show/characters/writing/etc. aside, we can all agree that the only reason their chips didn't activate was because they're Filoni's beloved OCs and he has a habit of trying to make his OCs "special" in some way.
** I'm not including Ahsoka in this because, like she says repeatedly as of Season 7 of TCW onward, she isn't a Jedi and doesn't see herself as such--and for the same reason I'm not including Grogu, since he's like...a Mandalorian apprentice now and not technically a Jedi. I'm also not including Luminara because she eventually gets captured and killed pretty early on and I'm trying to only include Jedi that are alive for a significant amount of time in the Imperial Era.
So, how do the Jedi treat the clones after they murder their entire family and destroy their culture? Let's look!
-----
Example One:
Obi-Wan Kenobi never learns about the inhibitor chips, as of current canon. He is 100% under the impression that Cody and the 212th (as well as all of the other clones) just up and betrayed him and the Order for no reason. He also watched the security tapes that, yes, showed Anakin killing children, but also would have shown the clones killing Jedi as well.
In the Kenobi show he runs into a clone veteran of the 501st--a veteran who, in all likelihood, probably stormed the Temple and was a part of its destruction.
Does he spit in the clone's face? Call him a murderer? Kill or harm him in any way?
Nope!
He gives the veteran some of his credits, even though it's made a point in the show that Obi-Wan is now working with limited funds and is very poor at this point in time. He doesn't have credits to spare and he is supposed to be looking for Leia, but he takes a moment to give some to someone who took part in the genocide of his people.
He also routinely thinks about Cody and the 212th in the comics! He remembers them fondly and still connects Cody to the feeling of hope, even though they tried to kill him! Even though he has no idea that they never wanted to!
-----
Example Two:
Kanan Jarrus/Caleb Dume knows about the inhibitor chips, but in Rebels it's made very clear that he thinks that it's just something the clones made up so that they didn't have to take responsibility for their actions.
In Rebels, Ahsoka makes the (objectively bad) decision to send Kanan out to find her "old friends" to help the rebellion.*** Kanan then finds out that her "old friends" are three clones, only after he gets there and sees them. He reacts in a panic and ignites his saber, clearly freaking out a bit.
*** I'll probably expand on this later, because I have a lot of opinions on this particular decision of hers, but anyway-
Does he try to hurt and/or kill them? Do they have to fight him off? Does he even lunge in their direction or deflect Wolffe's blaster bolt at him?
Again, nope!
He steps in front of Ezra in a defensive position and, when shot at by Wolffe, deflects the bolt into their ship. Then, when Ezra steps in and says that Ahsoka said to trust them, Kanan de-ignites his saber and they all have a conversation about them helping in the rebellion--even though Kanan clearly doesn't trust them at all and is dealing with his PTSD while being there. Eventually he even comes to get along with/trust Rex, albeit in later episodes.
-----
Example Three:
Gungi, in the Bad Batch, meets up with the Batch and immediately recognizes them as clones. Now, we don't know his opinion on them and their betrayal because it's never really expressed, but it's safe to assume that he has no idea about the chips (at least, until Tech tells him) and it's clear that he's very scared at that point in time.
What does he do?
He hides in the corner of the ship and is wary about the food they offer to him.
That's literally it.
And then later in the episode he works together with TBB and trusts them enough to let them help defend his village.
-----
So, even with most of the Jedi either having no idea about the chips or likely doubting that story, we're shown over and over again that the Jedi never seek revenge against the clones or try to kill them after Order 66. Even though their lives were ruined by what the clones did/took part in, they're never shown to be actively trying to cause them harm.
So there is literally no way you could possibly justify Anakin killing an entire village of Tuskens because of his mother's death, when--in arguably the same/a worse situation--the Jedi are actively shown not doing that.

Why Depa Billaba & Captain Grey are my ship?
To me the most underrated Jedi Master is Depa Billaba. It's because she wasn't in the battle scene at Geonosis in AOTC, wasn't in ROTS and only had a cameo in Season 7 of the The Clones Wars. It wasn't until the Kanan comic book and the 1st episode of The Bad Batch that we learn of her death when her clones (including Captain Grey) turned on her and her Padawan Caleb Dume (Kanan Jarrus). It is one of the best Order 66 death scenes and saddest. You see her blasted by the clones a couple of times as she screams to Caleb to run. You never see her death, just Caleb running and hearing her screams and this makes this the saddest for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the Kanan comic book her death is shown more as Grey shoots her in the back.
Tumblr media
Now everyone has a favorite Jedi besides the main characters like Obi-Wan and Anakin. Mine happens to be Depa Billaba. Like Obi-Wan who treats Anakin as a brother, she treats her padawan, Caleb almost as a son but she still comes over as a badass.
Tumblr media
Everyone has a clone ship, like Rex & Ahsoka, Bly & Aayla, etc. Mine is Depa Billaba & Captain Grey. Your going to ask why, after he just gunned her down in the back. Well many love the Bly Aayla ship even though he gunned Aayla down in the back too. Many feel Bly kept firing on Aayla to give her a quick death. For me it's different with Depa and Grey. They had been together from the beginning of the Clone Wars and he was one of the only survivors of a battle with General Grievous but had stuck with her when after she healed from her battle with Grievous and helped create a new Battalion with her. But it is in the Kanan comics, when the clones are hunting Caleb and Grey shows his real regret for what he has done and blasts the Imperial ship's control panel to save Depa's padawan Caleb.
Tumblr media
So this is my reason, saving Caleb, it's almost like a mother and father saving their child. It also makes me feel that because Grey saved Caleb there might have been more between Depa & Grey and that's why they are my ship. They would also have made a great couple Post Order 66 AU ship.

coruscantguard's Fic Rec List (01)
This list contains some of my favorite fics from my time in the Star Wars fandom! It is by no means a comprehensive list of all my favorite fics, just the ones I could find the very easiest— I'm absolutely planning on making more of these in the future. I hope you enjoy! (No, I'm not procrastinating working on anything rn, shushhhhhh)
we stand here, together by @nightdotlight
21k, Padmé Amidala/Anakin Skywalker, Rex & Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi & Anakin Skywalker, Neyo/Mace Windu
Summary:
Master Depa Billaba and Padawan Caleb Dume. Windu worries for them, out in the wider galaxy. Waging war, while he and Anakin sit here, waiting. But he trained Billaba, and Billaba is training Dume. Anakin once took lessons from her, when he himself was a Padawan, and he knows she is skilled enough by far, to ensure that both she and her student make it back to Coruscant safely. It’s ironic, that when cut off from the Force he can understand other people better than he has in years.
Nat, will you ever shut up about we stand here, together? No, no I will not. It's been three years since this fic was posted, and it still destroys me emotionally every time I read it in the best way possible. You want a fic to make you cry about the Jedi? I've got a fic that will make you cry about the Jedi in the best way possible. This story is wonderful and amazing and I'll probably be recommending it until the end of time.
Reputations. by @outpastthemoat
36k, Qui-Gon Jinn & Obi-Wan Kenobi
Summary:
Defeating a Sith Lord before losing your Padawan braid, that’s a difficult reputation to live up to.
SUCH a wonderful look into Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, this fic completely blew me away. The metaphors here are beautiful, the imagery is stunning, and I love how outpastthemoat portrays the Jedi. An all around treat to read, and a fic I've reread many times, and plan to reread many more.
observer's effect by @bytebun
6k, Cody & Obi-Wan, Cody & Rex
Summary:
The fall of the Jedi was a fixed point, and there had to be a hand on the gun. It might as well be Cody’s.
(The story of your life is a tragedy, but you still get to make your choices.)
This fic contains one of my favorite lines of all time regarding the clones and their names, oh my god. I love the differing approaches it takes to Order 66, I love how the relationship between the 212th and Obi-Wan is portrayed, and the prose just blows me away. I enjoy reading this one SO MUCH.
the falling man by @cabezadeperro
35k, Fox/Quinlan Vos, Fox/Echo
Summary:
It's been three years since the end of the war. Fox works nights as a bouncer in an Underworld nightclub and does what he can to help in the fight against the Empire. He wasn't expecting Echo.
I sobbed when reading chapters of this, y'all. As in, full out ugly crying sobbed. I remember it very clearly, because I was actually on vacation at the time, and I was hiding in my Grandmother's basement so I didn't have to explain to my family why I was sobbing. Post Order 66 stories just get to me in a way that few other stories do, and this one did so perfectly. The despair and the hope mixed together, the way that they just kept going, the SW cyberpunk setting— it just works PERFECTLY.
Twilight on Owl Creek Bridge by @yellowocaballero
33k, Fox & Leia Organa
Summary:
SUBJECT: Regarding Senate Guard Objectives For Today This is a polite reminder to all guardsmen that patrol schedules for the Senate vote ratifying dictatorships are posted in the breakroom. I am also issuing a warning to linear time that days should follow sequentially and are not intended to repeat. Please cease repeating. I am getting a headache. Additionally, I'd like to remind all guardsmen that it is illegal to harbor invisible women in the Senate. If you see a ghost claiming to be Leia Organa, please remove her from the premises. She will be making a scene. Thank you for your cooperation in preserving the peace of the Republic, and all hail the Empire. FOX
This fic? This fic blew me away. Holy shit. This is one of those stories that simply altered me as a human being, you know? Every part of this story is expertly done, and I love how it all came together at the end. This story also contains some of my favorite lines of all time regarding the clones, and god, Leia's portrayal here is PERFECT. Feeling so many emotions about Alderrann again.
may you inherit his light by @notbecauseofvictories
2k, Leia Organa & Bail Organa, Leia Organa & Anakin Skywalker
Summary:
When your father dies, say the Coruscanti, you are left clutching a star map for a different galaxy.
In this, as in many things, Leia is her fathers' daughter.
Speaking of feeling emotions about Alderrann, here's another fic that does that! Leia and Bail will always make me emotional, and this fic does so perfectly. I love their relationship, I love how Leia's grief is portrayed, I love every moment of her life we see and the visual imagery here simply blows me away.
So Call It Grace by @blackkatmagic
10k, Cody/Quinlan Vos, Quinlan Vos & Lando Calrissian
Summary:
The only thing Quinlan wants is to keep his head down and avoid the Empire. Lando dragging one trouble and then another into his life isn't helping matters much.
This fic owns my entire heart and then some. Oh my god. Quinlan & Lando are such a great duo, and Cody!!! Cody!!!! I have no words, just sounds of joy about Cody. This story just took residence in my mind, and has refused to leave, which I am absolutely more than happy with, because I love this story SO MUCH. Quinlan is one of my favorite characters of all time, to the surprise of no one, and I adore how Kat writes him.
Carrion by callmelyss
2k, Merrin/Trilla Sunduri
Summary:
Understanding thrills through the Second Sister—what Cal Kestis has awoken here by chance, what’s slumbered among the unquiet dead, waiting. A survivor. The taste of metal floods her mouth; her gloves creak as her hands clench. Laughter escapes her, flat and humorless and long, ricocheting along the close walls. “No,” she swears, allowing the venom into her voice, the hate to curdle in the air, met and devoured, as it always is, by the Dark. “Not a Jedi. Look closer.” The Second Sister goes to Dathomir in search of Cal Kestis. She finds something entirely unexpected.
These two? These two are AMAZING together. I love the writing here, the visual imagery blows me away, and the way these two relate to each other is AMAZING. The parallels here amaze me, and this is a frequent reread for me, it's just so good. This story makes me want to write about these two SO BADLY.
dead dog (bye-bye baby blue) by @patchmates
15k, WIP, Fox & Cody, Fox & Thorn, Fox & Quinlan Vos, Cody/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Summary:
The way it happens is simple: at some point during your service in the Guard, you’ll lose time. The thing wiping the Guards’ memories gets sloppy and Fox remembers the order not to let Fives leave the surface alive. It changes everything and nothing at all.
I am intrigued by this fic, y'all, I am so intrigued. This is a story that I can tell is going to absolutely crack my heart in two, but goddamn am I excited for it to do so. I'm always a huge fan of when people take a more cyberpunk approach to SW, and I am simply fascinated by patchmates' portrayals of the clones. I foresee this fic doing great emotional damage to me, but like, in the best way possible, and recommend it VERY highly.

More Star Wars 'What if?' AUs
Yet more Star Wars AU Disney could make - or people could write.
Post 1 here.
Palpatine's plan to have the people lose faith in the Jedi hits a snag because it started before he planned - before the war even. Galidraan has Jedi poll numbers taking a nosedive and when the Jedi are proposed to be generals there's a giant outcry because the people don't think they can do it without kriffing up (like they did Galidraan). Jedi aren't generals = Jedi aren't where Order 66 can conveniently have them killed. Plus! The outcry focuses on how Jedi are meant to be peacekeepers, not soldiers, so the Jedi still have popular support, just not as pieces of the galaxy's war machine.
Caleb Dume actually does get found by the Bad Batch and goes with them, and ends up staying behind with Cut and Su Lawquane. He becomes their 'oldest son' and meets Hera earlier and they manage to start/continue the Twi'lek resistance earlier and build it bigger/connect it to the wider resistance earlier.
Apparently it was Darth Plagueis' experiments that led to Anakin's birth, but what if Shmi miscarried? Where would all those midichlorians go? Into Shmi, of course! But now not only is there a Force Sensitive adult that just sprang up out of nowhere, but since Force Sensitives who are untrained and experience trauma are known to cause massive upheavals and damage to various things...like slave chips, chip transmitters, Hutts' lives...
Speaking of slave revolts, what if the Alpha clones found out about the chips when they were younger and, realizing how many more of them there were than the Kaminoans+trainers, dechipped enough younger brothers that they could make a stand. Would they take all the clones and leave, kill all the trainers and Kaminoans and stay?
What if the chips actually worked less like 'woo-ooh, space magic' and more like you'd expect? Fics seem to say the chip completely overrode the clones' personalities and they became 'good soldiers' that were just 'following orders', but watching The Bad Batch, affected clones seem to have the same personalities. If the chips couldn't assert immediate, complete control over the clones, but instead just blared out the Order and what it meant, and in order to get it to stop the clone had to follow through, none of the clones would have followed Order 66, if only because it would have been a hugely confusing thing to have happen (when they'd never experienced it before).
After Nute Gunray got arrested because of Darth Sidious' plans, he decided following a Sith wasn't a good idea - especially since he lost MONEY on this gambit! The Trade Federation is no longer backing Palpatine's plans and since Palpatine has already killed his Master, Hego Damask II of the Intergalactic Banking Clan, he's not got them either.
My favorite way of killing Palpatine - what if the Zillo Beast ate him?
Mother Talzin decides the Nightsisters should actually take a leading role in the galaxy's war. Sidious is extremely unprepared.
Palpatine encounters an unexpected roadblock to getting his Emergency Powers - the Senate. None of the good Senators want him to have that much power and none of the bad ones do either - because they'd have to give up some of their own power to him!

I just finished watching Tales of the Jedi and I have a lot of words so SPOILER ALERT if you haven't watched it.
I don't want to put this under a read more because I feel like that'll just make people ignore the post so please, if you haven't filtered spoilers and don't want to be spoiled, close your eyes and scroll past this fast :D
I'll be as coherent as I can 😅
First off I am blown. Blown away by this. I'm in awe at how much Star Wars can make me feel and how this is the only franchise that will do this to me.
Episode one, I cried. Baby 'Soka, I shall protect you from everything even though you shall be the one protecting me even with thou chubby baby legs. But when the end credits rolled and Ahsoka's theme played, I teared up. I hadn't cried with Star Wars ever since Crosshair was left on Kamino!! For a moment, I was nine years old watching The Clone Wars in the movie theater with my brother all over again 🥺
Now... Dooku. I hate him. I love him. I love to hate him. I hate to love him. I love Yaddle more (seriously, Yaddle my beloved, I'm not over that). And the way I howled when I realized some of the events were set in TPM?! I mean, animated TPM Qui Gon?! MY CHILDHOOD-
The sadness that Dooku felt at losing Qui Gon, and the scene at the tree felt so surreal. I would have loved to see Dooku's fall to the Dark Side in much more detail but this is in no way a complaint; I love the execution and the short story format, and I felt the setting was exposed pretty clearly and just- AGH.
Also, that scene where Dooku tells the guy from Raxus he can kind of understand his point of view, and while he talks, his face is lit red and the background behind him is dark - *faints* I love it when a scene can visually reflect a character's inner turmoils. 10/10
I still love Yaddle more.
and Mace Windu was fuckin' amazing in this, as he always is. We stan Mace Windu in this house - holy crap.
Now. Now. NOW.
Tales of the Jedi is truly special because, while many will like to dismiss nostalgia factor as pure frivolity, it's the reason I and possibly others feel so intensely right now.
We saw Ahsoka again, as well as Obi-Wan, Anakin, Rex, Jesse. Characters I watched as a kid, who have shaped me in one way or another; we see them grwo with the course of the mini series, and we can tell the context and feel either joy or pain, mostly pain by the end. I had no clue that the training montages with Rex and the boys would lead so smoothly (and so painfully) back to Order 66.
There's a sequence I will now watch with even more pain!! Thank you, Felony.
Also DEPA BILLABA AND CALEB DUME. Guys. The incoherent noises I made at seeing them. I yelled and cried and fangirled and asdkjhañksjdghañsdbgj it was gorgeous to see them. Their cameo didn't even have words, they were just there and it made sense and it felt nice and I love it. Same with Plo and Yoda.
And I respect Ahsoka way more now knowing she worked hard days under the sun. Respect to my queen. UGH and the pain of knowing she was at Padmé's procession because they were friends, having Bail tell her there was nothing she could have done for them (isn't Bail Organa just the best, most comforting character in the franchise?)
And that inquisitor - I was bummed that it ended so quickly. People, I'm a slut for Percy de Rolo, and then you give me an inquisitor with a bird like mask and a deep voice? AÑISDJHGFAÑSBJGFDA anyways ummm Ahsoka was a badass, as usual, and I really wanted to smack the dude who turned her in.
Hehes, I really hope not to have rambled too much. I'm still not over it, these are just my thoughts on the whole series. Soon, I'm going to rewatch it with a bag of popcorn.

Whump: The Musical Day 2: Wicked ("No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.")
Fandom: Star Wars (bad batch time zone but not the batch)
Warning: referenced and an attempted suicide of a side character
Summary: Caleb stops a man from killing himself. When some citizens see this they report him to the authorities.
Why did Caleb have to save that man?
Roofs were a good place to travel when you didn't want to be found. The ex-padawan learned that pretty fast. Being above everyone had its advantages. Seeing everything that was going on below you made being someone everyone wanted dead at but safer.
But then he came across a man who was ready to jump. Before Caleb could stop himself he started to talk. "Sir?" he asked. "Are you okay?"
The man looked panicked as he turned around. "Get going kid. You don't want to see this." Before he could say anything, the twi'lek jumped.
Running to the side of the six story building, instinct kicked in and Caleb reached for him. Before the man hit the ground, he found himself levitating. There was a look of surprise on his face, as well as the faces of the people nearby.
The danger the child had put himself in, hadn't made it's way to his fears yet.
Caleb ran down the stairs. Skipping steps made him reach the bottom quicker. Bursting though the metal doors, the boy ran to find the man who was still sitting on the sidewalk. "Sir?" He started. "Are you okay?"
Crying, the man tried to smile. "Thank you kid. I'm okay."
"So, what's been going on?" Caleb said as he sat next to the older man.
    "You're a child."
"Then let's find someone for you to talk to." He stood again and extended a hand to the man. The Twi'lek nodded and took his hand.
"Do you have any family or friends?" As he spoke, Caleb started to feel the eyes on him. He realized what had happened. Shoving the thought off to the side, he starts to lead the man away from the crowded street.
    "No."
"Same" was the first thing that came to Caleb's mind but he figured he probably shouldn't say that.
"How about I take you to the nearby hospital? They can help you there."
Despite the look of defeat in his face, the man agreed.
They took the scenic route. Caleb knew he needed to avoid larger streets. With the empire around and with them knowing he was around, hiding was important.
As they closed in on the hospital, a voice came from behind them. "There! Get the Jedi!"
Turning around, Caleb looked at them. Then he turned to the man, "I have to go. Please, take care."
Then it was time to run. The padawan did a lot of that. It hurt, having to run away from the man. Every part of him wanted to finish taking him to the hospital.
The imperial presence on the planet was a large one. Hiding, Caleb ducked into a building. Then he started to run for the roof. They seemed to be his only safe place. He always liked sitting in the highest place he could find at the temple.
The kid made his way to the stairs. Tripping over some stairs on the third floor, slowed him down. His ankle was sore.
On the stairs of the sixth floor, imperials caught up to him. The door was in sight. Pushing the men down the stairs, Caleb threw open the door to the roof. Without looking back, he jumped to the next building.
After a while of jumping from building to building, Caleb took a break. Out of breath, he started to curse himself out. Why did he have to save that man? Jedi  instincts were going to get him killed.
"No good dead goes unpunished I guess" he whispered. It seemed he almost lived by this saying. Every time he helped someone, something bad happened to him. Maybe he should learn to control his companion. Maybe he should have just let the man have his way out.
Listening to his surroundings, he deemed it was safe to wait a few more minutes. Sitting down, Caleb looked at his ankle. Luckily, he had just twisted it.
It was time to move. There was a nagging feeling in the kids heart that told him he needed to make sure the man had gotten to the hospital alright. It wasn't too far, even if he had been running in the opposite direction.
The stairs down the building he had ended up on, creaked as he walked down them. Opening the door, Caleb faced the night. The beautiful sunset that had previously painted the sky, was gone. It was a pretty sight to kill yourself too. The red and orange in the sky would have matched the red on the pavement as well as the orange of the man's skin.
Caleb snuck around, trying to find a discreet way to the hospital. "Why am I doing this?" He muttered. "This is gonna get me killed."
After a while of walking and a few close calls with the empire, Caleb found the hospital. Seeing the nurse reach for the phone sent a cold chill down the kid's spine. "Excuse me?" He said, his voice going up a few octaves. "Did a Twi'lek come in earlier to be admitted to the psychiatric ward?"
"Are you family?" The nurse asked, setting her phone down. She hasn't been calling about him.
"No, I'm the person who stopped him and brought him most of the way here. I just-" he sighed, trying to keep from crying. "I just wanted to make sure he got here okay."
The nurse came around from her station. "He came in. He's been admitted." She put her hand on his shoulder. "You're a good kid."
"Thank you. I'm just doing my job." That probably sounded strange to the poor nurse.
"Can I call your parents, I'm sure they'll be proud of you for saving that man's life."
What did he tell her? She was right, Depa would be proud. "My Mom's out of town. I'll just head home."
    "Okay. Stay safe."
"Can I do me a favor?" He asked quietly.
"I'm sure I can." The girl kneeled beside him.
"Can you tell him I got away safely? That I came to check on him, and if the empire asks, can you say I was never here? I'm just trying to survive and every time I do something to help people, it always gets me caught and I'm just so tired." Tears welled in Caleb's eyes and the nurse tightened her grip on his shoulder.
"Of course I can." She pulled him into a hug and Caleb started to cry. It had been so long. The boy wasn't sure how long he had been there, but by the time he stopped crying, his throat was sore and his eyes hurt.
The nurse let go of him and walked around the counter. Grabbing soothing she walked back over to him. "Use this to get you something to eat. This is a safe place for you."
"Thank you. For everything. Hopefully this doesn't hurt you. My Captain, Styles-"
    "You fought in a war?"
Instead of answering, Caleb continued his sentence. "He used to say that no good deed goes unpunished. Just be careful." Before she could ask any more questions, Caleb made his way to the door.
The nurse caught up to him, "hey kid." She kneeled down beside to make sure no one else would hear what she had to say. "May the force be with you."
There was something comforting about hearing that. "Thank you." With that he left the hospital and shortly after that, the planet.

Kanan Jarrus
Once upon a time, there was a young Jedi Padawan by the name of Caleb Dume. Caleb's story ended in tragedy, like so many others, at Order 66. Or at least, that was how the story was told. But like the very phoenix legend the rebels used so often, from the ashes of young Caleb was a new figure reborn— the story of Kanan Jarrus, Jedi Knight.
Kanan had been in hiding until a chance encounter on the planet Gorse, where they met the freedom fighter Hera Syndulla. After tapping into their long dormant Force abilities to save her, they were (somewhat reluctantly) recruited into her cause against the Empire, though still keeping their abilities a secret from the rest of the galaxy.
And then years later, on Lothal, something changed. They encountered a young boy, Ezra, with an incredible gift— the same force powers they had. He was only 14; the same age Caleb had been. Remembering how much they needed that guidance back then, they decide to train him; in doing so, they embrace their old past, taking up the mantle of Jedi Knight once again.
Notes:
My Kanan is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns exclusively. They don't mind being called "dad", but other than that prefer neutral terms to masculine ones, and will correct you if you mess up.
They've had issues with hallucinations before, issues which get more pronounced once they're blinded, as they have one less sense with which to check their perceptions. These hallucinations mimic (but are distinctly different from) Force visions.
They relapsed hard on their alcohol addiction post-Malachor. They hid it from the crew at first, but were eventually found out, and had to slowly (with their help) try to break the dependency again. It takes time.

|| Post up to 3-6 gifs or images of characters or sources of inspiration for your muse
Caleb Dume (Appearance in TBB) - The sole reason I created Cirz to be a young fugitive Padawan who has survived execution of Order 66 is because of Caleb’s underdeveloped appearance in Bad Batch. I wished to expand upon the question of what a Jedi kid suddenly pushed to hide might be going through, how he might struggle to conceal his identity, where he will go and what he will do. TBB gave no answers so I made my own.
Heike Monogatari (2021 anime) - A theme of The Tales of the Heike is that all existence is impermanent. Families rise and fall, people seize and lose power, and ancient treasures become lost. The character of Biwa that is added in this version of the story is an observer of the tragedies that befall other characters and while she is powerless to change the course of events on her own, she carries on to pass down their story. In a similar manner Cirz is a survivor of the Jedi purge who is going to pass down his knowledge of the destroyed Order. Cirz’s core outlook on life was largely inspired by the intro song of the show “If there's no such thing as eternity, I'm sure that the worst of times won't last so long. Someday we'll come around and meet again. Even after the end, someone will tell the story of how I lived with you.”
Myne (Ascendance of a Bookworm) - Myne is a five year old girl that during a near death experience unlocked memories of her previous life, a japanese college graduate who died during an earthquake. The knowledge that Myne gained causes her to behave strange for her age, and strange in terms of cultural context of her society, because the morality of modern japan is not understood in the world she lives in. The contrast of a child who knows too much and behaves too mature is a theme that I enjoy for Cirz, because I think it’s funny. Cirz being raised in the temple and having access to the Force making him different culturally from majority of the galaxy and also more grounded, more aware than a typical kid (also because he witnessed actual war TM)
Eleven (Stranger Things) - El was raised as a test subject in a lab due to her psychokinetic abilities and as she ran off she continues to be pursued by the show’s antagonists. I’m including her not because of the backstory but because she inspired the way Cirz can perceive past and present events while he opens himself to the Force, that was pretty much where I got the idea, because I thought it’s cool.

hi, im just starting w star wars, and i keep seeing the 10k jedi. i wanted to ask if there's any more information than that? like, is the 'corps' people counted there - i think those are not main/lucas canon so im not sure? is it just the knights? are the crechelings in those numbers? just active members? any help is appreciated, even just people who knows more or where to start looking for answers! if this isnt the kind of thing u were askin for in that post, sorry mfahfa
Lol don't worry about it, I was asking for anything really <3
So, as far as I'm aware, the 10,000 Jedi number came from Kanan Jarrus/Caleb Dume in 'Star Wars: Rebels' when he talks to Ezra about Order 66---and, at least from my pov, that would just include the padawans, knights, and masters, with the younglings and service corps not included.
All Jedi, unless they leave the Order, are considered "active" and Jedi who've left the Order wouldn't be considered Jedi anymore---so yes, in a sense, only the "active" Jedi would be considered in that number. Also, as far as I'm aware, the Jedi Service Corps itself is canon, but a lot of the information about it is Legends content.
That's all that I know, but I would recommend checking out @gffa or @david-talks-sw accounts or asking them about this for a better answer, since I'm a bit limited in my knowledge on the subject.

Companion piece to this
Post-O66 AU where Grey, Depa and Caleb all survive and go into hiding. Tried to mix designs leaning more toward the comics for this one.
