I don’t read a lot of fic for fandoms I’m currently writing for, just while I have stuff in the works, but I did check it out and based on the beginning it’s very intriguing!

spn and pjo might actually work as a crossover- a brief essay

Percy Jackson and Supernatural would actually make a decent crossover- both having that early 2000s, road trip Americana vibe mixed with myths and monsters of the week. Dean and Sam would freak the hell out. Percy and Annabeth would be sassy and suspicious as shit.

Annabeth wouldn't know about them, having spent most of her life on the run and then sequestered at camp, but it's entirely possible Percy or maybe even Grover might've seen Dean and Sam's mugshots somewhere or something. Percy can't be too quick to judge based on that alone considering his own dodgy record, but still it does warrant concern.

Imagine- from the Winchesters' end it sounds like there's weirdly consistent descriptions tied to rumors of kids disappearing or involved in almost inexplicable altercations. From the kids' perspective it's running into weird guys who seem to be a little too aware of the things most people ignore with the mist, while they're on an important quest away from camp.

They could bump into each other a few different times on the road before either one group finally decides to confront the other, or they end up in the same battle. Maybe the brothers save them in a fight, maybe it's the other way around and the kids (especially Annabeth) end up doing the rescuing instead. I don't know, it could be interesting and funny both ways. Let's just say they take turns.

Or alternatively, maybe the halfbloods just happen to pull up to some random town diner or motel, near flat broke and at least a little bloody, running from a monster the Winchesters also happen to be tracking, or vice-versa you could have the brothers arrive somewhere chasing a monster the kids happen to already be running from, and the conversation starts from there, with Sam leading with a few careful questions.

Naturally, when he realizes they're the direct target of the attacks and that it'll probably continue that way if not get worse, Dean frets over them even more, because he's a good guy like that, and then he accidentally ends up semi-adopting the gang, or at the very least reluctantly cross-country taxi driving this group of insanely powerful but scary young demigods (and a satyr)- who apparently have superpowers and their own magic weapons made of a special monster-killing celestial bronze- he should see about adding that to the arsenal- while Sam asks all kinds of questions about Greek monsters and the gods, updating and expanding on his notes, initial enthusiasm quickly tempered by increasing alarm.

They can also bond by angsting over shitty parents, hell knows Dean would immediately cave and take them all under his wing for that alone.

I think it could be an interesting parallel between the hunters and the hunted. Both tormented by monsters and unable/unwilling to give up the fight, and in Sam's case he could also relate to the whole "being haunted by visions" thing. I also imagine Percy and Annabeth's flaws of unwavering loyalty and pride respectively might make an interesting match with the themes of Supernatural. Plus I'm a sucker for found family tropes that follow their own unique dynamics and don't try to just mirror a weird, idealized, suburban nuclear family unit.

camp halfblood map!

hi friends!

I made this map of Camp Halfblood for my PJO d&d campaign, so I wanted to share! I also have made homebrew races, items, and a whole campaign world- I’m planning on publishing everything online at some point, if you’re interested, pls put your email in this form to sign up for the mailing list!

I made some changes from canon on the map, listed below:

-expanded and redesigned cabin area. Annabeth Chase and other Athena and Hephaestus campers redesigned each and every cabin for the new generation of campers. Each cabin is intentionally designed and placed, with a designated expansion zone as more minor gods are added to camp. I also added a cabin for Hestia near the cabins’ campfire area- I felt that she needed to be represented, and that Percy would insist on some sort of honoring of her presence.

-relatedly, each cabin now has bathrooms and showers within the cabin itself. The old bathrooms have been transformed into guest bathrooms for any Roman camper visitors, etc.

-I added “Memorial Circle,” an area to memorialize campers who have passed away. Memorial Circle has the names of campers carved in the outer wall, and statues placed in a semi-circle. Each statue constantly cycles to display a figure of every camper. The statues were designed in a joint effort between the Athena, Apollo, and Hephaestus cabins.

-There are now officially two campfires. There’s a casual one in the center of the cabin area, and there’s the main campfire that the whole camp gathers at for smores and singalongs.

-Arts and Crafts area now has a small art market attached where campers, nymphs, and satyrs can sell their work.

-I added a new soccer field next to the volleyball court. Just for fun.

The Haunting of Camp-Halfblood, part three

For my own sanity I wish I could say this was the ending, but sadly I am writing another part for good measure. I am fighting my body as we speak wish me look.

Will sighed impatiently. The three of you had been looking around camp for a few hours now, checking in and around cabins, but there was no sign of any ghosts. Even for Camp Half-blood, that was actually the norm most of the time. However, given that camp barely had a norm at this point, nor had demigod life, you had really hoped to find ghosts. The one time you are looking for anomalies, everything seems suspiciously normal. 

You even double checked if your spell circle around camp was still intact, which it was. Nico had gone and looked at the campers in the dining hall, all still asleep. At this point, you knew who was missing, but where could they be?As the three of you stood at the edge of the strawberry fields, you felt the hope leave your body.

“What if they did manage to leave? They have Alabaster, who could probably break my spell easily.” You looked at both your boyfriends in worry, and they both seemed helpless themselves.

“Let’s take a break, just sit for a bit?” Will suggested, “Maybe we’ll come up with a plan, or perhaps the people in the dining pavilion will wake up.” You nodded and sat down, careful not to crush any plants except grass. Nico sat down opposite from you, your knees still touching, Will doing the same to the right of you, making a small circle. You felt the pain of walking around all day in your legs.

“How are you holding up, Nico?” You asked your boyfriend, he looked down before facing you, exhausting clear on his face.

“It takes a lot getting the ghosts out-,” he sighed, “But it is not as if we have a choice. I’ll hold on until we’re done,” he promised with a doubtful smile, you grabbed his hand trying to encourage him a little.

“Remember last year with the ghost shoot? Nico and I were freaking out about it.” Will smiled softly at the memory, “You were so close, and we were just longing to bring you between us,” Nico snorted

“Hence why we did not mind you getting sick from shadow travel,” he let out a short laugh, “We got to cuddle the whole night, definitely worth the dressing up.” You let out a half laugh, squeezing Nico’s hand.

“You also offered to summon some ghosts, are you sure you didn’t summon these?” you asked him teasingly and he softly hit your arm. He gasped dramatically.

“I would never do such a thing to interrupt our Mythomagic time,” Nico huffed and Will laughed.

“Uhuh, because you were so enthusiastic about teaching us,” he stated, smiling. Nico looked to the side.

“It’s just, a lot of memories are attached to the game, y’know.” He said looking back at Will and you. You purse your lips before letting go of his hand and giving him a quick hug.

“We know, sorry.” You apologized and as you let go from the hug, Nico grabbed your hand again.

“It’s fine,” he squeezed your hand and looked at Will, “I would like to get more happy memories with the game, with the two of you,” his smile held melancholy, as his eyes seemed teary. But you understood and nodded.

“We will,” you said determinedly, “But let’s first catch the last ghost!”  

Nico might have been exhausted form the day thus far, but your determination somehow filled him with energy. He smiled, feeling lighter somehow. You stood up, he tried to follow, panic surging through him as he noticed his legs were restrained.

“Found you!” Miranda Gardiner’s voice rang out, followed by a laugh. Nico noticed that Will also could not get up, and as you tried to turn around, you fell to the ground, legs restrained by vines. A  flicker of light caught his eyes – which widened as he realized what was happening.

“Will! The crystal!” Nico yelled out, but before Will could even react, the vine shattered the crystal. He suddenly heard your scream.

“Let- GO!” You tried to wrestle yourself out of Sherman’s arms. The son of Ares had a tight grip on you, even with one arm. He quickly got the two remaining crystals out of your pocket.

“These seem important,” He grinned, shattering both crystals with his bare hand, “Oops, sorry.” Sherman laughed, as he tightened his grip on you. You tried wrestling yourself out- but it was no good.

“Stop struggling, or I will break you and your boyfriends in half, filthy demi-scum,” he whispered in your ear, successfully freezing you in place. Your heart was beating rapidly, as you tried to think of a way out- a way out for your boyfriends.

“Seems like we can finally start negotiating,” the voice of Alabaster came from behind you, “simply said, son of Hades, we require your full cooperation.” Nico glared at Alabaster- whatever the ghost could want, could not be good. Alabaster chuckled as he stepped forward, into your sight.

“You see, we want us and our siblings to be free. However, some of us got sent to the underworld by some pesky little shit. And when he couldn’t get all of us, he simply sealed the rest in those stupid crystals, keeping us there for years upon years!” You could see Alabaster’s body tense, the anger clear in his voice, “If you would be so kind to let us go, we will be sure to save you the pain of losing everyone you know,” Alabaster turned around and grabbed your chin, “Starting with this little love bird.” His eyes were dark- sucking you almost in, his fingers cold.

“So, you can terrorize innocent people?” Nico spat, trying to get Alabaster’s attention back to him. A disgruntled look came to Alabaster’s face, and he turned to Nico.

“I don’t care about other people, son of Hades,” Alabaster shrugged, “And I am surprised you still do, after everything.” Alabaster turned to Miranda, “You got them tight?” Miranda nodded, “Alright, possess this one,” Alabaster grinned widely, “Show the ghost king how we get things done.”

You felt helpless- Sherman’s grip was strong and you could feel it tightening with every breath you took. As the ghost left Miranda’s body, you felt yourself weaken more and more- cold settling in your bones, eyes lost in fear.

Will screamed out your name, trying to get out, but his legs were still entangled in the vines. If only he had a knife on him- or if his crystal was still there. He looked at the shards, out of reach and dull. If only he had never suggested taking a break.

Nico couldn’t concentrate- he wanted to, but everything was so loud around him. He heard Will’s scream – he felt the thorns on the vines puncturing his skin, he felt his heart break. There was so much pain on your face – your body was tense, and Nico still felt exhausted. How could he fix this? Why was it his fault you were in this position? He needed to do something, so why was he so fucking useless?

Will focused on the things he did have – empty hands, panic, and his boyfriend. HIS BOYFRIEND- Will focused on Nico, hoping he had a plan- he had something – the power to free you or – or-

Will noticed Nico’s hands shaking, his eyes only on you and filled to the brim with fears. There were tears pooling, and Nico was taking short breaths. He looked hopeless- he was panicking.  Will urged his body forward- only managing to touch his knees to Nico’s.

Nico’s eyes shot to Will- who looked just as desperate as he felt.

He was the ghost king- and these ghosts were not going to harm his people.

Anger surged to his body as he looked back at you- once again trying to get away from Sherman, away from the ghost coming closer and closer. You who Nico loves so dearly- you for who he would do anything. Adrenaline pumped through his veins- love pumped through his heart – as he commanded the ghosts- their spirits- to remove themselves from any bodies they possessed. 

And then Nico simply ordered them to die.

The ghosts in front of you disintegrated- something akin to screams echoing over the strawberry fields. Your vision turns to black from the sound- from the lack of air- from the ghosts that almost entered your body. Sherman let go, and you dropped to the ground, legs unable to keep you upright. You tried to get up, only to be caught under the weight of Sherman’s body. Maybe you could just lay down- maybe for a little- 

“(Y/n)! I need you here!” Will screamed, his voice pounding in your head. You were so tired, yet you pushed Sherman off. You sat up, holding your aching head in your hand. You squint your eyes as you look at your boyfriends, Will frantically trying to get the vines of his legs, and Nico passed out on the ground. You crawled your way over to them, picking up your sword along the way - had Sherman disarmed you? - and handed it to Will. 

“Don’t cut yourself,” you mumbled, as you laid on your back, passing out.

Fanfic No. 6: Beautiful Secret

Type of fic: Canon divergence, 25.9k and 7 chapters, completed, took 2 weeks to write, rated K+

“Its Percy's 3rd year at Camp Half blood. Everything is fine till a sphinx shows up at the border and demands for what was stolen from her to be returned and will eat anyone who comes in her way. Now Percy is in search for the thief. Better sum in my bio.”

Main Characters: Percy Jackson, OC

April 9, 2007

Length: The pacing and flow were good for the most part, lengthwise it was good but some parts could have been longer. 

Format and content: Formatting could have used some minor editing, some sentences and paragraphs were very dense where they could have been split up. Plot was interesting and unique! It felt like a short story within the canonverse. There is no mention of the titan war or Luke or any assimilation of it into the plot. The humor aspect was missing but that was due to the writer’s personal style. The descriptions were very vivid from the get-go, it was easy to picture each scene. There were some clear plotholes but did not take away too much from the story. The sakes however could have been higher and the antagonist’s motives weren’t fully fleshed out. One line reads “I had made the water in the gun somehow ruin the insides of his gun,” and it feels not fully fleshed out. Minimal grammatical issues.

Characterization: Percy feels a bit OOC but again in 2007 he has yet to be fully realized so this isn’t really an issue. There are small issues like Thalia being called goth and having OOC tendencies but again, not really an issue as she also has yet to be fleshed out in canon. OCs seemed to mirror certain canon characters like Annabeth and Luke in certain aspects and OC, Emerald, Percy’s friend in this fic, suffered from Not Like Other Girls Syndrome if not Mary Sue Syndrome. There was a lack of insight into her character as her emotions were very surface level and we did not see much depth. With her, it was a lot of telling and not showing. The antagonist and his motive also felt very surface-level as well. Camp Halfblood is also a bit uncharacteristic as well, willing to kick out campers even though that might cost their lives and heavy communication with moral parents even though that is unrealistic for a lot of halfbloods. This should all be taken with a grain of salt, as this is a canon divergent fic. 

Reception: There are 46 reviews that are positive, supportive, and constructive. The audience is very involved in the story, There are also 20 favorites and 9 follows.

Author: Author PixieGirl13 is a talented writer who in ANs, says they are taking a creative writing class, and it shows. As of 2014, the last update on the account, they have a self published original book with a fellow fanfic author! As of 2014, she is a young adult named Lydia who is clearly still an active writer and presumably 16 when this was written. There is one ‘gay’ joke in the fic but I believe that to be of the time and not of the author’s character. On her account she introduces herself and gives the statuses and updates of her many fics, some of which she has written with siblings, which I think is very endearing. In ANs she says she is writing in her own style and is knowingly taking liberties with characters and that this is her first time writing a Percy Jackson fic. Through the ANs in the fic she is eager and open to reviews and constructive criticism and is grateful for support and interest from readers. She gives the typical disclaimer and apologizes for late updates. Author clearly enjoys her work. Account was last active in 2014 so we can only wish her the best. 

Impact: I brought up a lot of discrepancies but this fic was really enjoyable to read! The author has clear talent and would love to be able to interview them about their experiences!!

Ok, finally time to talk about my lighting theif musical character

His name is Morgan, he uses he/him pronouns. He's the daughter of Eos, the goddes of dawn.

His powers are that he always wakes up at the crack of dawn (tbh it's also a curse), but he can also wake up anyone, no matter what kind of sleep they're under. He also has a rosy glow around him, like an aura. It ranges from rose gold to bright red, depending on his emotions. He does have some control over how bright it is. He can also make/control dew. He's the strongest in the morning, of course. He does resent that capture the flag is always at night

He's 13 during the events of the Lighting Theif. He came to camp when he was 11. When he was first claimed, everyone thought he was an Apollo kid, cause he started glowing. But of course he knows who his dad is, so people realized it was actually Eos. He still does stay in the Apollo cabin, until the new cabins for all the gods get built.

Speaking of his dad, he's pretty good, actually. Morgan stays with him during the school year. Still need to come up with how he met Eos, but we'll discuss that later. He is very kind, though overbearing, and very overprotective. This is only heightened by the monster attacks

At Camp Halfblood, Morgan is friends with Ashlynn, a 12 year old daughter of Ares, and Sam, who doesn't know her godly parent. December is sort of a older sibling figure to all of them.

He loves to fight, and loves to gossip even more. Much like his dad, Morgan is incredibly protective of the people he cares about. He hasn't been on a quest yet, and is very jealous of those who have.

"What is Little Camper?"

Little Camper is a Percy Jackson fanfic, spanning the years 2002-2009. It follows Stephanie Olive Overbaum as she navigates life as a young demigod, which turns out to be more difficult than expected, due to the uprising of Kronos and campers turning to his side to fight the gods. It's a coming of age story mainly focused on the themes of Family, Mythology, Friendship and, well, War.

"Will Little Camper be canon compliant?"

Yes! and no!

I am trying to keep it as consistent with canon as possible, however the story includes original characters I made up (because most of the campers we know and love are too young to have been at camp since 2002. Don't worry they begin to trickle in as time goes on) as well as some minor deviations from the plot and slight changes in relationships and ages.

The ages are mostly because Rick never really specified them, so I kind of just tweaked a couple of characters' ages by one or two years, nothing drastic. You probably won't even notice it, because it's not really that important to the plot, in the first place – merely a logistical thing. It is fanfiction, though, so there are bound to be things that will be based on my own headcanons and ideas that popped into my head while reading these amazing books. On that note, I've tried to steer clear of other people's headcanons, just because I don't want to accidentally incorporate someone else's ideas and not be able to give credit bc I've lost track of the original post, so if you've sent me headcanons it's very much appreciated, and I can't wait to read them when I'm done writing (probably years from now, considering the pace I'm going) and if you see something in Little Camper that aligns with someone else's headcanons that is completely unintentional.

"Is it going to be written like the pjo books?"

Kinda? It is written in the third person, so probably closer to HOO than PJO. I don't care for reading first person fanfiction personally (unless it's used for a really good reason), so it'd be pretty odd for me to write it. Also I might as well disclaim that I can never be Rick Riordan lol

Instead I've settled for keeping the general tone and feel of the books in Little Camper. So no (explicit) swearing etc. But hopefully at the very least some of the humor will come through, even if it's with my own twist on it.

"Is Stephanie a self-insert"

No. While I have nothing against self-inserts, Stephanie isn't one. She's intended to be an original character, in the traditional sense that she's original (ie. Not part of canon) but she isn't a stand-in for anyone, except maybe the reader of the story–So that would be you. But not moreso than Percy is meant to be a stand in for the reader through his story. We follow Stephanie and get her perspective on it. She isn't meant to be anyone, other than just Steph.

Whether an author is ever truly separated from a character they make and whether we give them traits from our own lives etc is always a fun debate to have but to clear things up: Yeah I probably *did* give her a couple things here and there that were, more or less, inspired by me–Nothing major, because I'm a big fan of subtetly when constructing characters, I'm pretty sure her preferance for collecting jewelry, despite rarely wearing it, came from me? but we're talking that level of reference.

She did start off as a joke, after all, so she had some pretty "interesting" traits and skills in the early beginnings of Little Camper. For example, there was an early draft of her character sheet that mentioned she plays the drums. Why? Because I've always wanted to play the drums. But that's a thing of the past.

"What do you mean Stephanie started as a joke?"

What an excellent question, totally real person asking all these questions who is not just me, trying to infodump and provide context for the story I'm writing!

You see, Little Camper is a joke. Or it's one of those things that started off as a 'hahah wouldn't it be funny if...' inside jokes between me and my friend, Sofie, who also beta-reads (when she has time), acts as professional 'idea-bounce-backer' and ensures the quality of my work is above 'unreadable'. Basically she got me into pjo and I got sucked in, as I always have been, and decided I'd make a lil guy– a little camper, if you will. And thus Stephanie was born sometime between my first read of book one and three. I'm pretty sure I made her between the first two books but I don't remember exactly. I know it was before book 4, because I proudly showed off her picrew (see below)

and very basic character sheet to Sof with the promise of making Stephanie my first ever oc who wasn't going to be traumatised and have a tragic backstory and all that jazz...

And then I read The Battle Of The Labyrinth and that really derailed everything. Canon event for cabin 12 kids, I'm afraid.

But she really started off as a bit of a joke. I didn't take her very seriously and it definitely showed in her design, her backstory and the silly nick-names I gave her grandparents. If you're curious about this 'early-prototype' Steph I can reveal she had a clowncore phase, was obsessed (with a capital O) with 90's cartoons a la spongebob, played the drums and had zero idea what to do with her life, bouncing from part time jobs like a disney channel character. She worked at zoo's, bookstores, restaurants, schools, icecream shops– anywhere you can imagine a miserable teenager biding their time, Stephanie had worked a month or two before quitting because 'it wasn't the right fit'. Oh and Rhonda was based on ghibli mothers. Still is, deep down, she just got better development.

And no. I didn't intend for it to be named Little Camper, and arguably far too silly name for what it ended up being. Never. Ever. Give your early projects a placeholder name. It sticks.

"What about Stephanie now? What can you tell me--without spoilers-- about her?"

I am working on polishing all my oc's character sheets. I made it as a mini 'demigod files' - yk - age, name, place of birth, favorite song etc and she's featured there. But for the sake of answering the question:

Is Stephanie Olive Overbaum. She's about 9/10 years old at the start of Little Camper. By the end of it she's gonna be 17/18.

Fast facts:

From North Carolina, USA. Born to Rhonda Overbaum on July 17th, 1991. Rhonda was 19 and had just started her business as a wedding planner.

Family Meemaw (Debbie) and Peepaw (Christopher sr.) Overbaum own Whitland Vineyards, which is the oldest and largest of it's kind in the state of North Carolina. Possibly the entire south, but that's too long to write on their postcards. Other family includes Jeremy, Rhonda's brother, his wife Jennifer and their two children: Christopher jr (called simply 'Topher' by the family) and Maisie.

Noticeable physical traits: Stephanie has two scars that you might notice. The most prominent is the one on her lips. She got that bc she'd seen a cartoon character picking his teeth with it and decided to try it with a steak knife. Don't do that. It went very wrong. The other one is less noticeable. She got that fighting a monster but I really can't say more (ooh suspense!)

Hobbies include: Drawing (poorly), not dying, eating, watching cartoons, swordfighting, music (listening= well, playing=poorly), theatre (assigned theatre kid by godly parentage), playing pinochle, not dying.

Fav food: Anything and everything italian. Partial to bread in all it's forms, preferably with either just plain or with camp's strawberry jam.

Fav beverage: Coke. Full fat. Not diet.

"How long is Little Camper– And why is it taking so darn long to write it?"

Currently I have a little over 50.000 words written to be edited down, polished and published. That's mostly the first year of Little Camper (the story is parted up into 'years' for an easier overview and each part is a collection of chapters taking place within that year ie. Year one is 2002. The chapters in year one span from June-December. Other years vary the months more). I tried to do the math based on the chapters I have planned (if an average chapter is 4000 words max, and I have x chapters planned), and it came out to be around 260.000 words. And that's simply an estimate. Will it actually be that long? Maybe, maybe not–That really depends on what it gets boiled down to when I edit it. Also some chapters I have planned might not end up being published, if I change my mind about them as I go along. But I have the general story planned from start to finish, and a little extra on the side, so there will be no abandoning the project, even if it takes a while to finish.

Why it takes so long is due to several things. For one, I'm not a fast writer. I never have been and I don't really think I'd like to be one. I like sinking my teeth into a story if it means it gets to be the best it can be. Another reason is that I, like so many other people who felt seen by and related to the Percy Jackson books, have adhd. And until extremely recently, I was undiagnosed, and unmedicated. I'm still figuring out how to work with my adhd rather than work how I used to assume I 'had' to work. Then there's the fact that I don't have all the time in the world to write, even if I'd like it. I work and I have other hobbies I'd like to spend time on, so writing doesn't always come first for me. I'm really sorry if you're getting impatient, It's probably not going to get better, I'm afraid– But once I start updating the fic, you'll get lots of content at a time, which should keep you busy while I work on the next part.

"Yeah okay, but what's it like–actually about?"

If I told you that there wouldn't be much intrigue to it...Put it this way: In one way, its a story about Luke Castellan. In another way it's a story about a father and daughter's strained relationship. In a completely different way it's about gods, and fate. In a simple way, it's a comedy. In a more complicated way it's a tragedy. In a more subtle sense it's a lovestory. Chapter wise it's slice of life. It is many things. You'll just have to read it when it comes out to find out if you like those things.

"I don't like ocs/some other thing you mentioned"

That's fine. You probably should read something else, though. I can't help you there! That's kind of my whole thing.

One of my PJO headcanons is that the summer after the war, alongside the renovations in Camp Halfblood, the campers also tried to make a brand new orientation film because everyone agreed the original one is a snoozefest (don’t tell Dionysus) and looks like it hasn’t been updated for at least several decades.

The keyword here is TRIED because almost every take ends up in ABSOLUTE CHAOS like when Annabeth was giving a tour of the different cabins, somehow the camera captures the exact moment when a Demeter kid was wrestling with an overgrown pitcher plant or when an Hermes kid was frantically running away from harpies or when an Apollo kid accidentally hits an Ares kid on the ass with a misfired arrow 😭😭😭
