of fucking course, the apocalypse happens as you actually go out for once.
shit, shit, shit. the thought pounds in your head as you peer around a wall towards the police station, crank that blaring from a car stereo in the near distance.
the sounds of groaning and shuffling feet make your skin crawl - noticing the glass doors were open and very much smashed. as you leant further out to get a better look, your shirt was pulled back and you were pushed up against the same wall you were looking over.
getting ready to scream but a hand quickly covered your mouth silencing most of noise, opening your eyes to be met with another pair - soon shutting up but your breathing was still heavy as the same boy checks if the coast is clear.
as you were in no apparent danger you licked the stranger's hand to get him away from you, soon regretting it and spitting out saliva.
“ew dude! what the fuck?” the brunette grimaced, whilst wiping his hand on his khaki shorts, realising there were three others, two boys and a woman, “yes cause jump scaring a person is definitely the best way to get someone's attention when there’s fucking zombies roaming around?”
your conversation - more like argument catches a couple of the creatures’ attention, you all ran back to the run-down car. they didn’t bother to discuss the situation and to just get out of their as fast as possible.
Tumblr media
as you made your way out of town, the sky had darkened and the stranger's friend who you had soon discovered his name was ben - had fallen asleep beside the two of you, whilst denise drove and augie sat in the passenger’s seat.
you and carter had sat in a comfortable silence, him looking out of the window and you were you were staring at your hands, still trying to wrap your head what was going on.
“are you okay?” carter spoke quietly from beside you; you give him a tight lipped and nodded, “i guess as best as i can be after all this has happened.”
he looks away but you're still glancing over at him, eyes scanning over his features, one thing you’ve noticed from the beginning is that he has such pretty eyes, a deep hazel.
you stayed like that for a couple of minutes. however, that was cut short since he had turned back over to you, you whipped your head back around to the front of the car. a deep blush spread across your cheeks.
you feel him lean more into your side and whisper into your ear, “you’re not so bad yourself babe.” you turned your head to disagree, but all you could do was splutter noises of outrage knowing you had gotten caught, he just laughed at your expression.
why did someone so annoying have to be so pretty?

~ Theory ~
Ok so maybe this is an obvious theory maybe someone already came up with this but I think I have a theory that connects all three adaptions of Wonka together.
If you have not yet seen "Wonka" please be warned, spoilers ahead just a trigger warning.
The theory is....
Wonka's parents divorced and Wonka went to live with his mother until she passed away and he went back to his father, as his father was a dentist and hated anything to do with candy, he made him wear a brace and forbid from eating candy so Wonka his the bar that his mother gave him and kept it with him in secret. When he discovered the taste of chocolate, he decided to follow his mothers footsteps and become a chocolatier something that angered his dad and then he run away.....
Short but bittersweet.
Seeing "Wonka" did answer the question about what happened to his mother and the fact they covered songs from the original movie and I believe that after the experience that Wonka had with Prodnose, Slugworth and Ficklegruber, i think that's why he created the test for the children in the original adoption to see who was honest and loving and not selfish and spoilt.
This is my theory but i could be very wrong.

I love that the MCU has a confirmed multiverse because my versions of what happens to the characters in different worlds is limitless. If I don't like canon, that's fine; I'll just make up a different universe instead. I like canon but also like imagining something else happened? I'll just make up a different universe.
Natasha died and Steve went back in time to be with someone else? Nah, they're soulmates in almost every other universe.
Clint has a wife and kids that I do like in the main timeline? Sure, why not? But there's another world where he ends up with Natasha because I said so.
Natasha died and barely got any time with her sister after finding Yelena? Absolutely did not happen in either of the above mentioned worlds. She finds her sister, fights Alexei some more, and the two become close because I said it has to happen.
Wanda dies by having rubble fall on her after she tries to get her sons back? No, she's living happily ever after with Vision and her twin sons.
Peggy Carter ends up with Steve in the end? Well, in my universe, she ends up with Daniel Sousa.
Grant Ward betrays the team and ends up dying alone for his body to be used by some alien parasite? Well, there are 2 ways we can fix this: the world where he never betrayed them and the other world where he actually does get a redemption.
Phil Coulson permanently dies and he and Melinda May never actually get their happily ever after? Nah. He's alive and well and they're married. The Bus Kids come by every so often for dinner.

Family Feud Nominations, Who is the Best Doctor Who Family
If I've missed a character out of one of the families let me know (within reason, I imagine all these families are massive in the EU, so prioritise tv or significant characters)
Currently, the only rule is no families may inculde anyone who is even ambiguously The Doctor, it'll get super complicated super fast imo
Any characters, eg River, who can link up multiple different families to create a single massive family unit will be treated on a case by case basis. If it is possible to pick one of the smaller family units that they are a part of to include them in while not including them in any of the others (in a way everyone will agree at least makes sense) they will be included in that family only, otherwise they will not be included
Please bare in mind when you are nominating that I am hoping to keep the number of nominations under 64 to run this as a mini-tournament. This is not a hard rule so if nominations do exceed 64 its not a big deal, just something I'd like everyone to bare in mind

answering a bunch of questions
i get lots of asks but i'm bad at responding to them, so here's a big post where i answer all of em in a row. sorry if i missed any
Tumblr media
thank you! honestly voice acting for my videos has helped me a lot over the years; I find it a lot easier to experiment with my voice in character, when it’s detached from my own ego. re: publicly transitioning, i can only speak from my own experience, but i’ve found it just takes a lot of baby steps to get where you want to be. it’s awkward at first but i much prefer to be awkwardly me rather than someone i’m not. i believe in you!
Tumblr media
thanks, that's very considerate! yeah i'm sweetstench on youtube, tiktok, and twitter, and i'm sweet.stench on ig because someone else got it. i'll add the links to my blog header at some point, i hardly know how to use this website
Tumblr media
i'm carter amelia davis, and i don't make creepy videos, all of my videos are nice :)
Tumblr media
NO!!! that is not ok
Tumblr media
hmm i live in minneapolis, that must have been my philly doppelganger
Tumblr media
cool, i'm glad i did a good job tagging that one. someone actually requested the “parasite” tag for that one so i added it. it seems like people really want to define their own experiences on here and i respect that. tagging my posts kinda makes it so I can’t post “in character,” but i also don’t want people to be uncomfortable. my goal with the gore and body horror shit is to be nasty, so i can’t fault people for finding it nasty, haha. just trying to do my best
Tumblr media
thanks, it's been a good one. i had some good tamales
Tumblr media
this is so sweet of you to say! means a lot, truly <3
Tumblr media
i have to imagine this was sent with good intentions but it feels like a well-crafted neg, haha. anyway peace n luv xoxo
Tumblr media
i'm pleased to hear that i’m giving off leaking gas pipe woman vibes. Very cunty
Tumblr media
not sure how to engage with this one , never had someone hit on me anonymously.. you correctly clocked me as a lesbo tho, haha
Tumblr media
nope, can't dwell on my past work. gotta keep moving forward!
Tumblr media
you must be cutie-melon to the fullest extent!
Tumblr media
i looked it up, this is some freaky stuff! thanx for recommend

M!Noble Six with a cuddly s/o?
Ah, been a while since I wrote for Noble Six. Hope these aren't too late for you, anon.
Noble Six would be all for a cuddly S/O, despite his reservations about his armor being removed. To him, physical affection reassures him that his partner is real and safe, and the amount of dopamine that swirls through his veins is enough to send him off to Cloud Nine.
Just in general though, Six wouldn't mind PDA; in fact, I imagine he actively encourages it. He is a rare instance where despite him being a Spartan, he is quite open to the idea of physical touch in a relationship and isn't afraid to initiate it with his S/O if they'll allow him too. Be it hand-holding, an arm draped across his S/O's shoulders, he's all for it.
When the revelation is revealed to Noble Team about his S/O and how he can be quite affectionate with his partner (in a non-sexual way), it is something they didn't expect from someone who was formerly considered a lone wolf. Carter is the one who took the most issues with it; seeing it as they're active military, he believes that Six should keep physical contact with his S/O in public to a minimum and not preform it at all in front of superiors, but Six was never one to follow the rules too closely. The only part of the lecture he'll agree with is no PDA in front of his superiors, since he doesn't want his S/O be forced to split from him.
I follow my old set of HCs from quite a bit ago in the fact that Six would cuddle his S/O on the floor of their apartment when he's able to take some leave-time from his duties. Being a Spartan has some benefits, so Six would help his S/O buy many weighted blankets and pillows to help cushion the more rigged parts of his armor, along with buying stash of snacks and random movie flicks.
Prefers being the big spoon for obvious reasons - he's incredibly protective of his partner and has seen pieces of war that he would've never wanted to see, so holding them in his arms grants him some form of comfort. Doesn't mean he'll always want to be the big spoon though; after a nightmare or a rough week of jobs from Noble, he'd enjoy being held, or at least the best his S/O can hold him.
During his temporary leave-time from active duty, Six would likely carry his S/O on his back while he carries out the needed chores for the day. Quite quickly he'd become known through his S/O's little community - S/O's Spartan in shining armor, ever protective of his love, but radiates a soothing presence and carries a heart of glimmering gold. Six helps out whenever he's able to, but tries not to stay out too long as it make sure the sun doesn't agitate his S/O too much.
There have been a few occasions where Jorge and Jun visited Six during his leave, and the sight they got to witness Six catching a break under some shade, his S/O's head laying against his armored thigh and in a pleasant slumber; Six's gloved hands would be tenderly brushing against their scalp while his gaze was drawn to their sleeping form, love guiding all of his delicate actions. Jorge chuckled softly as Jun gave him a look - the mysterious Noble Six was absolutely love-struck.

bloodwar — JOEL MILLER
Tumblr media
A/N: Y’all voted and so shall you receive! Im nervous writing for such a loved character but here goes nothing! If you’re not familiar with my work…I always provide the angst. You’ve been warned.
GIF BELONGS TO: @pedrohub
WARNINGS: I’m always writing my characters with black or POC in mind yet you’re somewhat welcome to imagine whomever as the character/reader is not fully described, fem! Reader, language, lightly paraphrased sexual themes, trauma/lost, & hints of a toxic!relationship the deeper I went into writing this thing. I do believe Joel can find some healthy love romantically but there’s things within himself that needs to be worked through. I am no therapist, I’m simply a girl who likes to make people feel some things with writing so I’ll stfu! Again this is my first time ever writing for this man so I was trying to get into the mind of his character as I wrote so don’t slander me too much if you feel this isn’t right. Lastly this focuses more on uncertainties? That’s it!
˗ˏˋ╰┈➤ ´ˎ˗ ˗ˏˋ╰┈➤ ´ˎ˗ ˗ˏˋ╰┈➤ ´ˎ˗ ˗ˏˋ╰┈➤ ´ˎ˗
The bruises and Lambrusco weren’t enough for her to forget or to catch her off guard. She noticed him way off, through the fence and across what once would have been pretty pale blue water, turned murky and brown. Getting around that lake would take some time and that time was granted as she left the watch tower with her bow and arrow. The only reason she came down from the watch spot was to retrieve the mischievous lamb that loved to escape the barn.
“Got you, you little shit.” She scolded as the animal kept up the banter; while she scooped it up from underneath the belly.
Her senses then allowed her to hear footsteps before he spoke, “Do you?”
Tension filled her shoulders as she took a sharp inhale before she spun on her heels, revealing the lamb and her new weapon of choice.
“Joel Miller,” the name pushed through her lips, “can’t say it’s a pleasure to see you.”
The man scoffed, “that’s no way to treat the man of your dreams.”
A roll of her eyes was immediate, “you and I both know you weren’t serious.”
This much was true and if it were any other time and circumstance, the words probably would have stung as they left her mouth.
“Yeah, you’re right about that.” Joel muttered as he began to stare, which always irritated the woman.
“Can I help you with something or are you just gonna stand there being a creep with your beady owl-like eyes?”
Joel laughed to himself, almost liking that his presence was getting underneath her skin but also at the fact that she wanted to get right to the point.
“What? I can’t enjoy the view and the luxurious secluded home you’ve got for yourself here?” Joel attempted to tease but the woman didn’t appear to be in a joking mood.
Which the man didn’t bother to take offense to—even if he wanted to, he received the emotionless expression that remained on her oval face and assumed his own features showcased the same, although the little twinkle in inky eyes felt like he attempted to make the mood lighter.
It was her turn to trail her eyes over him and she could tell how much life passed him by. It had been years since she last saw Joel. Their history was shifty and rough from the beginning, since everyone was trying to get adjusted to the downfall of society—being thrown towards a new virus and death filled life it was safe to say, they got into some shit together to survive. They both were not as alone at the start since Joel had his brother Tommy, where they ventured from Austin to the east coast and on their way, they met a woman with no filter and her kind but no nonsense having father in Memphis. It was war from the very moment the Millers stepped onto the Lemelle’s riverboat but a truce between the families brought an unlikely path in their relationship. Eventually she, her father, Joel, and Tommy made it to Boston.
After the death of Kendy’s father, the realization that the QZ was not all it cracked up to be, she made the decision to leave first back in the year of 2010; in search of a place with no restrictions. Yet sharing that news with Joel that summer the sun burned down in almost a red hue and instead of just simply disappearing into the night without a word…was something she wished she would have done instead.
“Tommy or Maria sent you?” Her chin lifted in curiosity.
Joel exhaled, “I’m sure you know the answer to that already. I get the sense Maria and I are not gonna be the best of friends.”
“Whaaat? Don’t tell me you never wanted a sister?”
Joel just blinked at her, “fuck off, Kendy.”
“Hey you came to me,” her face held mock innocence, “what you see is what you damn get. Also mind you, I’m the one with the weapon.”
“Yet I’d probably get to that thing before you can even aim to shoot. Lamb chops sounds pretty darn good to me.” Joel warned but Kendy looked more offended than horrified.
The lamb seemed to tilt its head at Joel’s statement as well, floppy ears almost appearing alert.
Which was weird to witness…
“you sure about that grandpa?” Kendy cooed as she pulled her knee up to balance the weapon before adding, “what’s the matter, they’re not feeding you well out in Jackson?”
Joel scoffed and folded his arms as he peered out into the distance of Driggs, pretending to think about it. Of course the food was good, real good considering back in Boston the lbs for food were mostly scraps and back out into the destructive world with Ellie was way worse. Sure he stuffed his belly until it became bloated and uncomfortable but he didn’t want to get used to it, regardless of settling—staying—stationing? in Jackson.
There was no use in complaining about the way things are.
Joel was always about action.
“Why here?” Joel steered the conversation elsewhere, “You’re a great distance away from Wyoming.”
Kendy hummed, “forty-four minutes by car. Longer by foot, which is just fine by me.” Before carrying on, “Did you really expect me to be there too, waitin’ around?”
“I don’t fucking know,” Joel exasperated, “it’s a sense of community, belonging or whatever they’re trying to go for. Something that would have been good for you and—
Kendy almost stopped breathing, the gears turning in her head, thinking Joel was first hinting at some sort of relationship that wasn’t platonic with his brother, taking into consideration that the pair got along well, however the way he rubbed at his mouth in frustration told her his words were aiming at another topic.
“Ah, now I see why you felt obligated to be here. Trust me, I don’t need this.” Kendy hissed, turning back around to head to the barn.
Joel hesitated because part of him didn’t want to do this either…yet it’s been a long time coming. Thirteen years to be exact. He’s in a whole other state and he didn’t travel all this way, by himself (persuading Ellie to stay back with Tommy for at least a couple of days, was hard work and he expected the freckled face girl to find a way to keep close. However Joel didn’t miss how Ellie was starting to spend some time with a certain girl named, Dina.) to not get the answers he deserved.
“Trust?” Joel stomped after her, “I dunno how you want me to do that darlin’ when you’re the one who ran from me, knowing you were carrying a child. My child.”
She whipped back around, making Joel almost bump into her but she shoved him back with a fist pressed to his chest. Her eyes were heated as she met his stare, “it didn’t matter! I wasn’t your problem anymore, ‘good riddance,’ remember? You really think a child would have fixed what we were? We couldn’t get along if we weren’t on top of each other.”
“You still should have had the decency to tell me something. It’s not right how you did it. How I have to find this shit out from my baby brother but even still…he didn’t tell much. So you better start talking.” Joel glared, pointing a finger in Kendy’s face.
Kendy slapped his finger away, “I don’t know who you think you are, Joel Miller but you don’t get to show up here and make demands. This time, I won’t hesitate to put one right in your chest if you keep pushin’ me.”
“Will you put the damn lamb and arrow down, Robin Hood, so we can have a decent conversation?” Joel snorted, finding this image almost humorous, if his blood wasn’t simmering, “I can’t take you seriously.”
Kenny scoffed, “well you better! Seeing you again and talking to me crazy is making me want to go back to old Kendy.”
Joel deeply inhaled and pinched at the bridge of his straight but hooked nose. He was aware what that means, the whole shoot and ask questions later was what life was like at the start of the outbreak and it only increased once they crossed paths.
He still had a bald spot, that no form of nioxin would cure! thanks to the woman throwing an axe at the top of his head (it happened sometime in January of 2004, Joel remembered Tommy slipping on the ice on the boat floor, surprised the younger man didn’t catch that in their stealth—although it seemed he didn’t get much sleep before their arrival to the water. Which caused quite the commotion before the real physical events transpired) , temporarily trapping him against the door the minute he got close to where she was located on the boat. Joel recalled the burning sensation of his hair being ripped from his scalp as he yanked himself from the wall, axe still having a hold on his thick hair, as he struggled to pull the axe from the wooden door.
“And here I thought Jackson was all for redemption, guess Maria isn’t as convincing as she seems.” Joel mumbled.
Kendy gave him a blank stare for a moment before she replied, “not too much on Maria now. Yes she’s opinionated and we don’t always see eye to eye either but shes a great asset to that community and she makes your brother happy. So accept that or talk that shit out when you get back because I won’t continue to listen to anymore jabs you want to toss out while you’re here.”
Joel raised his brows, “you’re gonna let me stay?”
“It’s getting dark out and I’m guessing you left your car across the lake so…you can stay in the barn or the tower. Your choice.” Kendy decided while she entered the said barn.
Joel shook his head, “I’m not sleeping with the damn farm animals.”
“We’ve all slept in much worse places, don’t get uppity on me now, Miller.”
Joel crossed his arms, “You get a one star for hospitality, Ken’.”
“Which is exactly why I put my two weeks in after three days of working at this hotel during my college years so thanks, sugar.” Kendy clapped back, making Joel shake his head in disapproval but not surprised.
Joel watched as Kendy showed almost this nurturing demeanor with the lamb and sheep, silently wondering what she was like with their own child…that was still bizarre to process and Joel was unsure if he even processed this although he was standing face to face with the woman he created another being with! It had been days since he found out this piece of information and now he was trying to do something about it. When they were intimate with each other, Joel foolishly never thought of the possibility of Kendy becoming a mother. He never brought it up because he obviously had no intentions on being that ever again, or spoke much of their past lives once their bodies fell into each other’s hands. It was a after thought when she sat down on him, so warm and sturdy. He was cold, this he knew but falling in love was never in the cards for him, especially with the world crumbling with the little pieces it had left.
What he had left.
He’s seen Kendy and how she was tender to her father once he got sick, he knew Kendy still had soft parts inside of her despite the jagged scar that trailed from the corner of her left eye and down the apple of her cheek, the delicate was still there—just don’t tell her that.
Part of her found something to care for to keep going, even if it were deemed as little things or “nothing” at all in her eyes. Did that also include a child?
Which is why Joel battled with himself on seeking answers. He didn’t speak to Tommy for days after the curly haired man blurted out the secret Kendy withheld from the older Miller. Joel was the one who brought Kendy up, at the saloon one late night, after everything failed at the hospital with Ellie. It was hypocritical of him—sure—but this secret was way before Ellie had been a thought of being the cure.
Joel still wasn’t entirely sure what he was expecting to get out of Kendy. The idea of becoming a father again, scared him shitless but he wouldn’t show it. Kendy didn’t create this child all by herself and they had to be grown now, however fatherhood was never a easy task and life after the outbreak was just as stressful; throw a fourteen year old into the mix and it was constant worry from there. He initially wanted to warn Tommy about this and actually deemed him a, “dummy,” for bringing a kid into this fucked up time, until tommy let the news slip from his lips when it really wasn’t his place.
Drops of rain were cool against the Idahoan spring before they started to pelt. Joel shielded the top of his head, standing at the entrance of the shelter as Kendy made her way through the barn, locking and boarding it up just in case she got any other visitors tonight.
“Come on,” Kendy waved the man to follow her to the back entrance of the craftsmanship home, just as the wind began to pick up.
Yanking the blinds down over the glass door, she made sure to lock it and set her bow down by the rest of the archery kit. Joel took the invitation as he scanned the home, straight ahead held an ajar door, he then walked through the small entry way on his left, noticing a set of stairs to the right and headed into the next area which held the kitchen and living room with two other window-framed doors that lead outside, suddenly peaking around for any other source of life.
“Where’s—
“Joel,” Kendy clipped, “take off your damp shoes, you’re tracking mud. Do you want some wine or coffee first before we tackle this, since you’re so adamant to talk?”
Joel peeled off his jacket and bag, before using the couch arm to kick off his shoes with his feet. He then held them up silently asking where he should put them and Kendy pointed at the front entrance door.
He then replied, “Coffee.”
“Black, no sugar and no cream.” Kendy whispered to herself as she went to the kitchen, fighting with her intrusive thoughts to tell him to make it his damn self.
Joel silently watched her for a moment before he headed over to the wood stove which seemed to be going already. His eyes still searched the walls for any pictures or sculptures just like Tommy and Maria had in their own home but the walls were empty besides it’s horrible aqua color.
His attention was brought back to Kendy, walking by him, reaching for the handle on the stove, opening it to reveal the fire behind. She squatted down, mitten reaching for the tray to place the mug right on top, before shoving it back over the center of the fire. She counted sixty seconds before pulling back out, closing the stove and moving back to the side table to place the black coffee down.
“Give it a few minutes,” Kendy told the man who dipped his head as he moved back to the spot he claimed on the sofa.
Kendy soon made her way around, taking a seat on the opposite couch, bottle of Lambrusco and wrapped herself in some fur blanket that probably belonged to one of her many sheep.
Sorry animal lovers, desperate times call for desperate measures and you’re supposed to help the sheep shed their fur from time to time!
Taking a swing from the bottle, Kendy deeply inhaled after swallowing before her eyes set back on Joel, “okay. Ask away but don’t ask to respond. Listen, or else we won’t get far tonight.”
Joel rubbed at his pants legs, hearing Kendy and decided to not pick that response apart.
“…when did you know?”
“Not long after you and Tess.”
Which happened once after they both had too much to drink and Kendy wasn’t in the mood.
Believe me, Joel’s knows how shitty that was, he was the one who lived it.
“There was no Tess and I.” Joel uttered, not getting the chance to further explain that relationship but they were friends who spent time together as smugglers.
There was chemistry there regardless.
“So just like us, got it.” Kendy snapped her fingers, breezing over that as she ordered, “Next question.”
Joel scratched at his salt and pepper beard, “was the…baby also the reason why you wanted to leave? Did you think I’d ever find out?”
“A small part of it yes. We already know what the main reason was: Boston’s QZ was becoming dangerous and suffocating just staying there, I needed to get out whether you knew i was carrying or not.” Kendy answered, taking another sip from the bottle.
Joel could understand that but he figured it wasn’t any easier being out there on your own especially with a life growing inside of you, her elderly father was deceased and Tommy was debating on another trip out (with the damn fireflies and Joel wasn’t sure which pissed him off more!) ; although they shared hushed conversations about their exit…part of Joel still didn’t understand why she put herself through that on her own.
“Well how did that work out for you?”
Kendy let out a humorless laugh at the sarcasm that radiated off Joel, pulling one leg up onto the couch, “just dandy. I’m living the dream with my sheep and this eye-blinding house.”
Alone.
He breathed out a laugh through his nose, mind fuzzy, heart not feeling as steady as it should as he fidgeted with his hands. Before he got the next question out, he turned to grip the mug by the handle and brought it to his lips. The steam mists his nostrils as he took a sip of the coffee, the heat not bothering him in the slightest while the dark liquid slid straight to his stomach, igniting the impulse to see some action.
“Was Idaho the place you envisioned to raise the kid?”
Kendy closed her eyes briefly as she said, “No. I didn’t see myself as a mother because I didn’t have much of one in my life. It wasn’t really a goal of mine. I stayed in Pennsylvania for awhile, three months maybe? made a friend that was once in the medical field and thankfully she helped me through it all.”
“She helped you deliver and then what?” He pried.
Joel rested his elbows on his knees, eyes set on the woman not so far from him this time. He felt the shift in the room rising as he continued to ask whatever popped into his head. He noticed the woman rack her nails against the black bottle, plump bottom lip with a beauty mark on it moving to the right as she bit down on it out of habit.
This was something she commonly did, Joel remembered that.
“Joel…it’s been thirteen years.” Kendy averred, “I couldn’t do it.”
Joel tried to keep his breathing steady, “meaning what? You got rid of it? Let this friend take care of them…what Kendy?”
He was never a man with patience.
And Kendy had time to cope with this.
So instead she got to her feet, holding the neck of the bottle to place on the coffee table before she set her eyes back on Joel. He leg began to bounce as it seemed Kendy was almost playing a game with his mind right now. A frown of his brows appeared in between them while she began to unbutton her jeans, pulling them down some and yanking up her shirt to reveal a scar underneath her navel.
“It was a ectopic pregnancy. I needed surgery, I was bleeding out and Kristi did what she had to do. I almost died and I kinda wished I did, along with that baby. And finally away from all this shit.” Kendy vented.
Joel felt a smidge of bile rising in this throat but taking another swing of coffee pushed it back down. He wasn’t sure how he was supposed to feel, or if there was a right way to feel.
“So…this was for nothing then.”
Kendy blinked, “what?”
“Coming out here, seeing you, and almost having wishful thinking when you killed the baby that you originally didn’t want and I wasn’t sure I even wanted.” Joel told, placing the mug back on the table.
Kendy couldn’t help the cackle that escaped her lips. She had to press her fingertips to her lips as she pointed her pointer finger up and down at the man.
“Nothing’s really changed with you and this is the exact reason why I should have put an arrow right through your chest where your heart is supposed to be,” Kendy seethed, “you’re a very broken person with no ounce of mercy. I saw it in your eyes the day I met you and I should have believed that then.”
“If that was true then you’d already be dead, back in Memphis, on that boat. So don’t stand there and try and tell me who you think I am.” Joel lowly stated.
Kendy huffed, pulling her jeans back up her wide hips and buttoning them before raising her hands, “why not when you’ve already shown me exactly that? You’ve never given a damn about me and certainly wouldn’t give a damn if the baby lived! Nobody compares to—
“Shut up! You don’t get to speak her name!” Joel was also on his feet now, absolutely aware what wanted to leave her lips.
The room was quiet for a mere second, besides the crackle of fire in the wood stove and the dash of rain outside.
Kendy tilted her head to the side, framed piece of hair sliding to cling to her eyelash, “Sarah.”
And that set Joel off, a forearm going to Kendy’s throat and his hand slapping against her mouth. He harshly breathed into Kendy’s face as he glared down at her. The rings of bags underneath her eyes showed just how tired he felt. He’s never spoken to Kendy about Sarah but it didn’t take her long to figure it out with his nightmares when they slept in the same space, going city to city.
Tommy only implied that he and Joel lost someone prior to their role of survival and Joel’s said her name a few times in his sleep.
“You don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about,” Joel gritted, “you think I haven’t changed when it’s you who hasn’t. You’re a know it all without actually knowing anything. You run any chance you get, always thinking about what’s best solely for you and nobody else. What a lonely life, don’t you think?”
A fist went to the side of his neck first, catching the man off guard, followed by a knee going up into his abdomen, leaving Joel fighting to catch his breath. He let go of Kendy who circled around and crouched to get into Joel’s face.
“Why would I stay? Imagine me having a normal pregnancy in my forties and having a child with a screwed up man that can’t love? Or doesn’t even like me enough? I’d say I dodged a bullet here and I thank god.” She rested a hand on his shoulder, using her other to bring the cross around her neck to kiss with a wicked smile.
Once Joel got his breath back, with the quickness, he swooped his arm underneath Kendy’s, locking her in his hold as he yanked her side to his chest by the shoulder. Kendy winced as she tried to spin her body out of his hold and when he wouldn’t let go, she tried to ram her shoulder into him but with his grip, he merely stumbled.
“Get off me!” Kendy yelled, ready to jam her foot right into Joel’s.
He kept hold of her shoulder, knowing it wasn’t at its strongest, even after all these years, hearing it click from scar tissue as he freed one hand to grip the side of her head, bringing her ear to his lips.
“If I didn’t like you…I wouldn’t have followed you that night to make sure you made it to Connecticut’s state line back then, if I didn’t like you I wouldn’t have accidentally called Tess your name once while looking at her but not really seeing her, if I didn’t like you I wouldn’t picture you when I touch myself, if I didn’t like you I wouldn’t have numbed myself out of missing you since you left, I wouldn’t have asked Tommy about you, and I damn sure wouldn’t have thought about you and I with Ellie, the kid, and Sar—on the ride here. like I said, you don’t know.” He then shoved Kendy away from him.
Kendy felt a lump in her throat at Joel saying this. Sure these were his words and it sounded nice, although she didn’t know who this Ellie person was but that didn’t mean he never hurt her and with his back to her now, she tugged on his belt loops, getting him to face her again. She wasted no time, moving her hands to grip the collar of his long-sleeve shirt to bring his lips right to her’s.
Joel hesitated feeling Kendy’s lips against his after all this time. It wasn’t unfamiliar so he was only shook for a second before the desperation settled in. His hands rested on her cheek, then down to her backside, then back up to her cheek, the pad of his thumb touching where her jagged scar ended and the other on the back of her coarse hair.
He tasted the Lambrusco, she tasted his precariousness, his left ear rung as the tip of her tongue traces his bottom lip, and he lets out a groan as a form of a unsaid apology. Until Kendy nipped his bottom lip—hard to the point she drew blood and Joel had to pull back to test his theory.
“Did you just—
Kendy deeply inhaled and exhaled with her lips raw and puffed from the pressure, “I want you gone by the fucking morning, Joel.”
He wiped the blood with his thumb as he watched the woman move around him, snatching up the wine before she made her exit.
Snorting he shook his head at her retreating form and moved to take a seat back on the couch with a exhale. This is what it used to feel like with Kendy leaving his sight after whatever interaction they had but this time felt a little different. There was no way in hell he could say this was a new beginning. He stared up at the ceiling in thought, quite conscious how this all played out and that this was a trial and error—when wasn’t it with the two? However this battle was not something he wanted to entirely give up on just yet.
Not anymore.
He had the time to get it right and part of him wanted to with Kendy.
And if they couldn’t…it’ll be a fair one this time.
No it didn’t make any sense and no this probably wasn’t the healthiest of relationships but Joel was never perfect, the flaws: scars, the bruises that were black, blue and sore, and the blood were okay with him as long as he was doing it with Kendy, he never wanted perfect.
Perhaps fighting, getting it all out into the open field was the answer and you can ask anybody: when has Joel Miller ever been afraid of getting his hands dirty?
And so he sat in the quiet with Kendy upstairs in her bedroom lost in her own thoughts, her back against the door when a crooked grin appeared on his own lips.
Here’s to additionally another round with Kendy Lemelle!
But…Who’s counting?

JAY-Z at the Brooklyn Public Library’s "The Book of HOV” exhibition, the day before it opened to the public. The exhibition is a celebration of JAY-Z’s unparalleled body of work. The exhibition is a 40,000-square-foot exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library crafted in collaboration with Roc Nation. The free exhibit makes full use of the library’s expansive Grand Army Plaza branch, with the front of the institution wrapped with his lyrics, a Jazz Grant-crafted mural in the building’s atrium, and six “zones” dedicated to the music icon’s career and legacy. It is also 20 years of his Shawn Carter Foundation. This is cool, so apparently, Beyoncé and JAY-Z didn’t know anything about this until the day before. It was kept a secret from them. I know Jay felt so overwhelmed with joy. And I just know Beyoncé is so proud of him. Just imagine seeing your whole career displayed out for the public to see and admire. What an accomplishment. 🙌🏽 (7/13/23)

Honor in Crisis
Fandom: DC Comics, Batfam, NTT, Titans, JLI, Arrowfam, Flashfam, GL Corps, Infinity Inc
Summary: Every chapter will focus on one character specifically and then I'll update their statuses in order.
This is a no powers au/fix-it fic for Heroes in Crisis. I wanted to focus on the characters and their healing. I decided that'd be easier to put some of these characters in a fic like this and work on it more from a real-world perspective. I DO want to say that I do not believe healing is linear so don't plan on a clear-cut happy ending. I'd say (and idk for sure) we're gonna eventually get a bittersweet ending for certain characters but nothing tragic.
Chapters: 2/?
Characters: Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne, Kole Weathers, Lilith Clay, Michael Carter, Michelle Carter, Rani Carter, Grant Emerson, Roy Harper, Grant Wilson, Joseph Wilson, Thaddeus Thawne, Bart Allen, Helen Claiborne, President Thawne, Todd Rice, Alan Scott (DCU), Damon Matthews
Relationship(s): Damon Matthews/Todd Rice
Additional Tags: No Powers AU, Canon Divergent AU, Fix-It Fic, Angst, TW // Eating Disorder Mention (please be kind this one was the toughest for me to write personally)
Chapter Two: Watercolor (Kole Weather's POV)
Kole's fingers were stained from the watercolor, but it didn't bother her. Her mind was elsewhere. She took her palm and wiped her forehead, staining her temple. She wiped her hands on a paper towel and picked up the pack of oil pastels. She was startled by the sound of someone knocking a brush washer off the table. "Fuck," they cursed. Kole dropped her oil pastel on the table and got up from the table. She left the room, and a nurse followed her out.
"Kole, is everything alright?" the nurse asked. Kole nodded even though she was trembling from head to toe. The nurse gave Kole a little distance, which she was grateful for, and she closed her eyes and rolled her shoulders back.
Kole was already on edge, and she just wanted to take that as a sign and cancel her plans. She didn't really want her friend to see her. Kole tried to hide the worst of the disorder from her friends, but things had gotten so bad. Kole couldn't remember what happened clearly, but she could recall sobbing because she'd lost clumps of her hair. Never mind the tachycardia and muscle spasms Kole experienced on the floor in the dressing room. She nearly died. That was the last time her friends saw her. That was the image they must've carried in their heads when they thought about her. It happened two months ago, but they hadn't seen her since then.
Kole feared that it'd be too much pressure. She imagined that they'd poke and prod her with all the wrong questions or treat her differently because of what happened. The guilt consumed her. Wasn't that enough? Had the circumstances been different, she would've slipped and refused to eat or hurt herself to stop the panic. Her therapist insisted that it was expected for her to want to self-sabotage in high-stress conditions. At least that's what she remembered. The nurse returned and whispered Kole's name. She snapped back to the present time, and the nurse asked, "Are you ready to go back in?"
Kole nodded. "Yes, sorry," she whispered as she followed the nurse back inside. She sat down in her spot and went back to her art piece. When it was time to move on, Kole went to the cafeteria, and she was met by a friend who immediately lit up upon seeing her.
"I'm so happy to see you," Lilith whispered, "I missed you."
Kole didn't know how to react, but she wrapped her arms around Lilith. Lilith got in line with Kole, and they got dinner together. Kole led Lilith to her usual table, and a nurse sat down next to her. Lilith sat across from her. Kole's hands shook as she looked down at her plate. It wasn't until she heard Lilith's spoon hit the bowl that she looked up. "Can I tell you something? Sister-to-sister?" Lilith questioned as she glanced up at Kole. Kole was relieved to hear that Lilith still considered her a sister. Kole nodded. "I know I'm the first person to come visit, and I know this might seem overwhelming, but I'm grateful that you let me come. I also want you to know that I don't want to rush you."
"Thanks, Lil," Kole mumbled. She meant it.
She started eating, and Lilith started rambling about how a showcase she was in. It didn't bother Kole to hear about it. In fact, she'd been excited to get back to dancing. That was one of the things she had to look forward to. "Sorry, Kole... I'm just so nervous," Lilith chuckled.
"No, it's okay. I was actually—. I was looking forward to dancing with you again," Kole whispered. She tensed, waiting for Lilith to speak. Kole wondered if Lilith would try to let her down easily. She wondered if Lilith would say she wasn't ready yet.
"There's nothing that I'd want more," Lilith replied. They both went back to eating, and for just a moment, Kole forgot where she was. Dinner was surprisingly good for once. Lilith and Kole met eyes while they were chewing, and Kole chuckled. "What?" Lilith laughed.
"This wasn't as bad as I thought it would be," Kole replied after swallowing her food. Lilith smiled at her. Lilith took a sip of her water and smiled.
"Good," Lilith whispered.
Lilith was so good to her despite the issues Kole had with Lilith's mother. They both had problems with her, but that's what made them sisters. After they finished eating dinner, Lilith said her goodbyes, and Kole grabbed her hand. "You'll come back, won't you?" Kole asked. Lilith smiled and embraced her.
"I will," Lilith whispered, "Just let me know when."
As soon as Lilith was gone, Kole felt an emptiness inside herself. She lounged on the couch watching tv. She glanced over at the young man on the other end of the sofa as he mouthed the words to the tv show's episode silently to himself. His hands were burned, and so were parts of his neck and face. "Is this your favorite show?" Kole asked. He shook his head.
"No, I was on set when this was filmed," he replied. Kole looked back at the tv, and he whispered, "He's gone... He's gone to be with the lord," in sync with the tv.
Kole smiled. She thought it was funny that the young man always did that. She sometimes liked to watch the other patients. Things could be dreary, but seeing people smiling and laughing was pleasant. It made her think that she could be happy. Really happy.
She hugged her knees as she sat on the couch and dozed off in front of the tv. She wasn't sure how long she'd been asleep, but someone woke her up in time for their group to reflect on their goals. Kole rushed to her usual seat, and she took a deep breath. She was hesitant to share, but she always forced herself to. Four people went before her, and when it came to her, she took a deep breath and closed her eyes. "I had dinner with my friend today. She came here and sat in with me... I wanted to hurt myself, so I wouldn't have to see her... But I had fun. I didn't think I would, but I did," Kole whispered. She didn't look up for fear of making eye contact with a specific person in the group.
"So you want to be applauded for what? Not slipping?" a young man in the group asked.
"Dude!" someone chastised him. "Kole, personally, I wish I was ready to have meals with my family."
"Thank you, but it's okay. No one owes me any recognition. I'm just—. I'm proud of myself, and I didn't want to be ashamed of my anxieties," Kole clarified. Standing up for herself. She proudly smiled as she looked down at her lap. It was a good end to a difficult day.

'Forty years on from the year in which it is set, and released on the date of Winston Smith’s first diary entry, George Orwell’s seminal dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (not 1984, despite how this most recent retelling has chosen to style the title) has received perhaps its highest-profile adaptation since Michael Radford’s film. Andrew Garfield plays the reluctantly rebellious Winston, and man-of-the-moment Andrew Scott is a smoothly vicious O’Brien. Cynthia Erivo makes for a suitably feisty Julia, and Tom Hardy reprises his Bane boom as Big Brother, although his contributions are wisely kept to a minimum. The talented supporting cast includes What We Do In The Shadows’s Natasia Demetriou and Black Mirror’s Alex Lawther, and the score is co-composed by Muse’s Matt Bellamy. Lavish cinema and television ads have brought the show to worldwide attention, and yet it’s likely to receive a fraction of the interest that, say, Ripley will obtain. Why? Because it’s an audio drama.
Granted, Audible’s new production of Nineteen Eighty-Four, which is billed as a disturbing, adult-focused and immersive experience, is a million miles away from a distinguished actor reading an audiobook version of Orwell’s novel. At times, it goes further than you might expect in terms of the sex and violence quotient; there is a love scene between Garfield and Erivo that, somehow, manages to be wildly explicit without showing anything visual (one can only imagine what it was like for the actors to record that particular scene), and there are nasty scenes of torture and violence that are none less chilling for being conveyed through a mixture of dialogue and sound effects. (Yes, Room 101 gets its full measure.) Muse fans, meanwhile, will be thrilled by Bellamy’s score, co-composed by Ilan Eshkeri and performed by a sixty-piece orchestra, that blends somber strings and piano with percussive electronic beats.
Director Destiny Ekaragha and screenwriter Joe White should be commended for a faithful and smoothly gripping adaptation that adds in a few successful set-pieces, such as Winston having an attack of paranoia on the train that his minor acts of rebellion are about to result in his immediate arrest. If it’s listened to on headphones in a public place, as it no doubt is supposed to be, Nineteen Eighty-Four becomes a deliciously chilling immersion in literary paranoia; you’re standing around your fellow citizens wondering which of them you’re going to fall in love with, which of them will betray you — and whether that will be the same person.
Clearly, Audible intends this to be a marker in a series of blockbuster literary adaptations that will change the face (or, rather, ear) of the genre. There was a Sam Mendes-overseen David Copperfield last year, with Helena Bonham Carter as Betsey Trotwood and Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa as Copperfield, but it barely shifted the dial in terms of audience awareness. Ninety Eighty-Four feels different, and not just because of its A-list participants, rock star composer and dread-laden subject matter.
In a year where the word “Orwellian” is likely to be used more than usual in the course of the British and American elections alike, and where any tech blogger will write lazy articles talking about the way in which Big Brother, Newspeak and the rest have become part of our daily social media culture, it’s good to be reminded of the power of the original, translated into this new form.
Yet I remain unconvinced that this will be the crossover blockbuster success that Audible so clearly believe it will. Enjoy it for what it is — a few hours of sumptuously conceived and acted Orwelliana — and let’s leave the question of whether this will eventually come to replace visual entertainment out of the equation. Until, that is, Christopher Nolan is recruited to write and direct an immersive audio adaptation. Then we’re talking.'

🎥 "Wonka"🍫
Yesterday I watched Wonka at my local cinema and I loved every second of it! 🌟🍭🍫
This film takes us on a whimsical journey into the life of the enigmatic Willy Wonka. Timothée Chalamet embodies the role of Wonka with charm and quirkiness, while the supporting cast including Matt Lucas, Matthew Baynton, Calah Lane, Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Grant adds layers of flavor to this cinematic confection.🌈 The film is a visual feast! The candy landscapes, whimsical inventions, and vibrant colors transport you to a world that's equal parts sweet and surreal.🎶
Loved the songs as they were both hearing and quirky aome aonga i was singing on repeat amd there were some references to the original film starring Gene Wilder.
If you haven't seen it i would totally recommend it!

Miss ufonaut what do you think each jsaer sounds like
WELLL @slaapkat and i have certainly thought about this in detail before for some members (our obvious favs) but it's definitely the first time i'm considering it for the whole gang so. let's give it a try. and keep in mind more than half the jsa are from new york for some insane reason!
ted grant - the actual objectively ideal ted grant voice can be found right here in dc universe online and boy, if that's not exactly it for me! perfect accent, pitch, intonation, everything! mr justice society of hoboken is a dream come true to me!
carter hall - same as ted, the above works just fine for me! i think carter's got a pretty standard american accent, a deep voice and he always sound extraordinarily harsh to anybody he's talking to (except his various hawkgirlswomen, if he's in a good mood). at times, when reminiscing about his Past Lives That Are Totally Real he might unexpectedly launch into a fakey transatlantic 1940s period movie accent but that's about it.
alan scott - alan grew up dirt poor, and he grew up gotham. so, he's got a very thick gotham accent that may have lessened slightly with age and that he goes to great pains to hide anyway. sometimes, it comes out when he's particularly angry about something or when he accidentally used to say things the way doiby did (a running gag in his golden age books) like 'goitrude' instead of 'gertrude' for their beloved taxi but usually he keeps it well hidden. i think alan's voice is pretty deep but not extraordinarily so (compared to carter, at any rate) and back in his radio days he used to do that world famous Old Timey Radio Announcer Voice that sometimes he still uses on the news at gbc and nobody can stop him.
Tumblr media
kent nelson - when speaking as himself, i think kent sounds decidedly not american but not enough that you'd be prompted to ask where he's from. it's just that his father was swedish and worked for the british museum so i imagine kent grew up somewhere in europe before nabu got to him and sent him to salem. as nabu, his voice is much deeper and all mystical and echo-y; nothing like the milder and sweeter real kent nelson.
jay garrick - i figure jay's got a fairly high voice and a very unremarkable midwestern accent. he always sounds friendly enough, maybe he used to stutter a little when he got overexcited in his younger years.
jim corrigan - i'll never get tired of saying this but jim sounds like every stereotypical noir detective you can imagine. think bogie in the maltese falcon or any other fav you may have.
rex tyler - like alan, rex grew up poor (oh, please please please read hourman #5 the issue of the century) and probably found it necessary to hide his nu yawk accent at college and while working at bannerman chemicals. unlike alan, i do think he's stopped that by the present day but his accent's nowhere near as pronounced anymore at any rate.
johnny thunder - as the sole jsaer whose dialogue sometimes gets spelled phonetically, johnny's got a thick nyc accent too and he probably tends to sound like the average teenager, pretty high voice afterwards too i imagine.
wes dodds - honest to god transatlantic accent due to his various fucked up boarding schools and his status of being crazy rich and having a whole mansion in manhattan.
charles mcnider - charlie's from new york too (gee, who isn't among the jsaers?) but grew up rich enough that i think his accent's standard, nothing especially remarkable. his voice in general, too.
ted knight - see above.

Roleplaying Races 14: Shobhad
Tumblr media
Though many erroneously assume that D&D and subsequent games like Pathfinder were exclusively inspired by the works of Tolkien, in truth tabletop gaming has been influence not just by the wide gamut of fantasy fiction, but also science fiction as well.
Notable today is the Barsoom series, also known as the John Carter of Mars series of pulp sci-fi stories and novels written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, a sci-fi series in which the titular hero is transported to Mars an encounters the many strange beings that live there, including the Tharks, also known as Green Martians, massive greed humanoids notable for their four arms, lanky yet powerful builds, and tribal lifestyle. Other such beings like the white apes of mars would serve as inspiration for fantasy gaming’s girallons, but it is the Tharks that inspired today’s playable ancestry, the shobhad!
Heavily inspired by the thark, the shobhad first appeared in the Distant Worlds book as the first look into the solar system that Golarion resides within, and as a healthy injection of pulp sci-fi com complement the already present amount mostly concentrated in Numeria.
The shobhads hail from Akiton, which is heavily inspired not just by the real planet Mars, but also by pulp science fiction stories about Mars, ranging from the shobhad themselves, girallons being from there, red-skinned humans, as well as beyond Burrough’s influences with figures like the contemplatives of Ashok.
The shobhad themselves actually underwent a facelift after their initial appearance. While initially looking like brutish blue-skinned humanoids with four arms, shobhad were later re-imagined in Starfinder and later Pathfinder 2e to be closer to their thark inspiration, having pronounced facial shapes and powerful tusks alongside the four arms and wider variety of skin tones.
Living on a harsh world, shobhads prize strength and resilience above all, and place a strong focus on personal honor and the ritualized ways in which one can improve their status. They view those living in permanent settlements as weak and lacking the identity that personal accomplishment can grant one even after death. As such, they are disdainful of “soft folk” and rarely extend to them the same honorable practices they use with their kin, instead remorselessly culling them if they prove a problem to the tribe, unless of course they manage to impress them.
Of course, there are some outcasts that act as mercenaries, venturing into settled places to offer their services, though this is clearly an exception, and looked down upon by the shobhad.
It should be noted that these mighty giants are not truly evil, but their harsh way of life leaves little room for compassion that they cannot afford, such as to strangers that they feel cannot contribute in a meaningful way.
Shobhads are large, strong, and insightful, and surprisingly nimble for their size.
They are also raised as warriors, and learn how best to roll with and avoid incoming blows.
Their natural ferocity also makes them hard to put down, letting them fight past pain where others would be brought low.
They also prove to bey surprisingly stealthy and keen hunters as well.
Physically athletic, they can leap great heights and move across the desert with ease.
Their four arms are not just for show either, and they can fully utilize them while wielding objects.
Now, the shobhad is difficult to justify using unless your campaign takes place on Akiton or a similar Mars-like world, but if you have the opportunity to do so you won’t be disappointed by this ancestry. Their large size and strength bonus from size does mean that they can be excellent melee combatants, and their wisdom makes them a good choice for most divine classes like druid, cleric, and especially warpriest. However, a sleeper hit you might not think about is their association with their shobhad longrifles, making potential sniper gunslingers and other gun-focused builds a possibility, albeit one that will require some replacement if your campaign functions in normal gravity. Honestly there’s no class in which they find themselves lacking, though even with their stalker ability the dex and stealth penalty are an uphill battle if you want to build them as a stealth character.
That does it for today, but we’re only halfway through the week, and not done with big burly ancestries at all. Tune in tomorrow for more!
