okay sooo i made some sketches for a few of the sprites i'll be using, some of which i'm gonna show here, as well as thinking about the code edits i'll need to do for this project. i don't want to just redraw a shimeji to look like SQQ, i want him to act and move in character, so i have a whole bunch of edits to do
Tumblr media
some of my notes:
i'm not yet sure how many sprites some animations will require so i'm not putting in a final number, or numbering which sprites will be used for what animation, but i'm going to throw out an estimate that the final sprite count will be about sixty-ish.
i mostly have all my animations already planned out. i know what i want them to look like and know how to do it, but there's a few i still need to think about, like one of the multiplying animations. i considered just getting rid of the one i have no ideas for, but i'll think on it some more. i'm open to suggestions too
i'm considering if i should code and draw in interactions with other shimejis already. it's a bit of a far off idea but i might make a Binghe or maybe even Liu Qingge or Shang Qinghua? who knows. anyway it'd be fun to make some interactions between them. i could even add a tutorial for adding more "romantic" interactions since i want to leave this area open for shippers. if i make it that is
"pet" - yes you can pat Shizun on the head. it makes him embarrased but he likes it.
i'd like to make this an incredibly intricate shimeji with a lot of animations but i'm worried about the performance. they may not be Chrome level RAM eaters, but they're not the lightest and i don't want to create something which people won't get to enjoy
i'm still considering where to host the files. thought about maybe hosting them on a patreon account (for free. the Shizun Distribution System does not demand payment for what it does) but i'm, again, open to suggestions
i'm making this for the Shimeji-ee DESKTOP SOFTWARE FOR WINDOWS. i've never used things like the shimeji chrome extension nor do i own any apple devices. i don't know how to work with these. HOWEVER, if there's someone who DOES know how to work on those, feel free to make versions compatibile with apple or with browsers, BUT only if those versions ARE DISTRIBUTED FOR FREE AND CREDIT ME AS THE CREATOR. i want as many people as possible to enjoy my shimejis
two long idles, one of which i'm showing the sketch for. in the notes i wrote down "looping" and "sound" - while it may be a project that i do not realize in the end, i thought it would be cute to make an animation where Shizun plays the guqin and add sound to it. there would have to be the option to toggle animation sounds, and another to loop that animation, but i thought it would be absolutely adorable to make a sort of music player out of that animation, allowing the user to add a downloaded copy of their playlist into the files. imagine - you're sitting at your computer, studying, working or filing your taxes or whatever, and Shizun's on your screen, doing his thing, providing background music for whatever it is you're doing. cute, no? but this feels like the sort of thing that might get annoying or make your computer turn into a jet engine from overworking. so, for now this is staying a concept. the animation will be present, that much i guarantee but all that other stuff might not show up
OKAY, SO. as you might have noticed i have three designs. i sorta changed them since i made the first post about this, because as it turns out my computer screen doesn't actually display bright colours all that well. might have to fiddle with the settings on it more. anyway this time i coloured looking at my tablet screen so they should be more accurate to what i wanted. i decided that my previous design didn't look like mint chocolate chip ice cream enough <3
so, i'd like you guys to tell me which design is your favourite! i have mixed feelings about design no. 3 because, while pretty, it's kinda too detailed. i just know i'd get sick of redrawing it so i might simplify it further for the finished product
here's the designs!
Tumblr media
*slight correction: the eye colour is not final! i left the sketch in on those parts and forgot to actually draw the finished design for the eyes. i don't have the time to correct that at the moment, however. sorry! for a closer look at how the eyes might look like, see previous design

people were wondering how i got my tumblr to look ^^ like this and asked for a mini tutorial so. here is how to get a custom tumblr theme (if youre on desktop) (obviously) [included screenshots of both the old & new layout so you can see how it looks]
Tumblr media
go to the firefox (or chrome) store and install this extension. or just look up 'stylus browser extension' and it should show up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
once youve got it installed, click the 'find' button in the bottom right. it should just show you tumblr stuff and if u scroll down a bit itll be there. but if it doesnt for whatever reason, look up the custom dashboard palette and install That One specifically
Tumblr media
theres a gear icon. click it. you can change a whole bunch of stuff in here (notably, the color palette of basically everything on the site) but for backgrounds specifically theres this
Tumblr media
find whatever image you want to use. it'll probably be the most convenient to find an aesthetic picture off tumblr itself. or, if you have a wallpaper you want to use thats downloaded onto your pc, upload it onto your blog or something. for whatever picture you want to use, right click and select 'copy image link' specifically and then paste it into the 'custom background image url' box and hit save. if it has a https in the link, then it should work out just fine
Tumblr media
voila. that should do it. and side note if you want the old tumblr dash layout before they twitter-ized it, heres a post about that & the stylus extension for it

Now is the time to delete tiktok.
If you are like me, you have hundreds of saved recipes, fashion inspiration, workouts, tutorials, etc, on tiktok that you don't want to lose. This tutorial let's you batch download directly from a tiktok users page on a PC or MAC or even Linux. If you want to download YOUR saved videos, you must make those folders public first. You can use this for your own account, and any public accounts.
Tiktok is going to become progressively more censored and influenced in the coming weeks, based on what we're already seeing. It's time to take what you need from the app, and get off of it if you can. This tool made it much easier to leave tiktok because all the collections I've curated are now safely on my hard-drive! I have my videos, and my saved folders, and everything I need to comfortably exit the app before it gets worse. You can message me if you need help with the tutorial!

How to play RPGMaker Games in foreign languages with Machine Translation
This is in part a rewrite of a friend's tutorial, and in part a more streamlined version of it based on what steps I found important, to make it a bit easier to understand!
Please note that as with any Machine Translation, there will errors and issues. You will not get the same experience as someone fluent in the language, and you will not get the same experience as with playing a translation done by a real person.
If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask!
1. Download and extract the Locale Emulator
Linked here!
2. Download and set up your Textractor!
Textractor tutorial and using it with DeepL. The browser extension tools are broken, so you will need to use the built in textractor API (this has a limit, so be careful), or copy-paste the extracted text directly into your translation software of choice. Note that the textractor DOES NOT WORK on every game! It works well with RPGMaker, but I've had issues with visual novels. The password for extraction is visual_novel_lover
3. Ensure that you are downloading your game in the right region.
In your region/language (administrative) settings, change 'Language for non-unicode programs' to the language of your choice. This will ensure that the file names are extracted to the right language. MAKE SURE you download AND extract the game with the right settings! DO NOT CHECK THE 'use utf-8 encoding' BOX. This ONLY needs to be done during the initial download and extraction; once everything is downloaded+extracted+installed, you can set your region back to your previous settings, but test to ensure that the text will display properly after you return to your original language settings; there have been issues before. helpful tutorials are here and here!
4. Download your desired game and, if necessary, relevant RTP
The tools MUST be downloaded and extracted in the game's language. For japanese games, they are here. ensure that you are still in the right locale for non-unicode programs!
5. Run through the Locale Emulator
YES, this is a necessary step, EVEN IF YOUR ADMIN-REGION/LANGUAGE SETTINGS ARE CORRECT. Some games will not display the correct text unless you also RUN it in the right locale. You should be able to right click the game and see the Locale Emulator as an option like this. Run in Japanese (or whatever language is needed). You don't need to run as Admin if you don't want to, it should work either way.
Tumblr media
6. Attach the Textractor and follow previously linked tutorials on how to set up the tools and the MTL.
Other notes:
There are also inbuilt Machine Translation Extensions, but those have a usage limit due to restrictions on the API. The Chrome/Firefox add-ons in the walkthrough in step 4 get around this by using the website itself, which doesn't have the same restrictions as the API does.
This will work best for RPGMaker games. For VNs, the textractor can have difficulties hooking in to extract the text, and may take some finagling.

Bulk downloading tools for images
I've been obsessively bulk downloading Twitter artists because of how uncertain the future of the platform is. I've also gotten into bulk downloading images as a faster alternative to my usual saving methods. I figured I might as well share the tools I use! I'm a Mac user, so all of these tools are both Mac and Windows accessible.
WFDownloader
An absolutely excellent bulk downloading tool. This app handles many more websites than gallery-dl, and it's particularly good for downloading entire Twitter pages. What's more, you can still download images from sites that aren't technically supported via the crawler feature. WFDownloader also gets major points for having highly detailed tutorials and a very responsive, helpful dev you can email for assistance.
Gallery-dl
This is a command line program, so it requires a bit of tech savvy. Most of the steps are outlined on the Github page. This program allows you to bulk download things like Pixiv pages, Tumblr blogs, Deviantart galleries, Instagram pages, etc. Some websites (like Pixiv) may require user authentication; the GitHub page outlines the steps each authentication process requires.
ESUIT
A Chrome extension that lets you bulk download Facebook galleries (something the two aforementioned tools don't do). The only drawback is that the free, basic version only lets you download the first 300 pictures in an album; you'll have to upgrade to a paid membership if you want to bulk download more than 300 photos. However, it's still a very helpful tool, especially if you're only planning on downloading smaller albums.
These are the 3 bulk downloaders I can personally vouch for, although many more exist. Feel free to recommend your own.

REBLOGGING FROM SOURCE WITH XKIT REWRITTEN !
hey friends!! okay, so i can't believe it took me this long to figure out how to do this, but thanks to the new xkit rewritten extension, we can bring back easily reblogging from the source! the newest update is kind of a pain for a lot of people, and it was much easier to just click on the username of the source where someone reblogged a post from. but thankfully, we can bring it back!!
i'm not the greatest at giving tutorials, but because i think this is important for a lot of us roleplayers, especially those who like reblogging things from their respective sources for whatever reason, and also generally for the majority of us who became frustrated with the new update. so, here's an attempt at teaching all y'all lovely people how to get your dash back to the way you liked it!! with that being said, it is greatly appreciated if this post is reblogged so as many people as possible see this tip!
TUTORIAL. ( skip to step 3 if you already have xkit rewritten installed. )
STEP 1. first, download xkit rewritten from tumblr's new xkit github page. right now it only works with chrome and firefox. instructions are under the "installation" section (you may have to scroll down a bit).
Tumblr media
STEP 2. once you install the extension, click on the xkit icon at the top of your browser. it should look like a small purple box with a white "x".
Tumblr media
STEP 3. under the "configuration" tab at the top of the pop-up, scroll down to the "tweaks" option. it should have a yellow icon with a gear and is (probably) the third option from the bottom.
Tumblr media
STEP 4. the "tweaks" option should be marked as "disabled", especially if you are using the new xkit for the first time or if you haven't seen this extension before. click the slider on the right side of the pop-up to turn the extension on.
Tumblr media
STEP 5. once you toggle the extension on, a drop-down menu should appear under the extension label. you can also toggle this menu by clicking on the extension label. click on "restore links to individual posts in the post header", which should be the first option in the drop-down menu.
Tumblr media
STEP 6. and that's it! you should now be able to click on the url next to another url and it should bring up the source that that person reblogged from. you may need to close the tumblr tab or restart your browser for the extension to take effect.
and that's it! i hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that it was helpful! if you have any questions, suggestions, or reservations, do not hesitate to reach out! please remember to reblog to spread this information! <3

Quick tutorial for watching TEOS if you're outside the US
Get the windscribe vpn extension (I use Firefox, can't vouch that it'll work as well in Chrome), you get 10 gigs for free that refreshes every month.
Watching in the best quality eats up data like crazy BUT all you need to do is get the episode playing.
Start it and turn off the vpn and it'll keep playing, just remember to turn it back on before starting the next episode.
If you want to play it in the background
Set it to the worst quality and let it play, plenty of data for that.
Amazon sucks, so as far as I know, you can't loop a show like a playlist. Keep this in mind because it automatically rolls into something else after the last episode.
I have it playing on my second monitor so I can keep an eye on it.
Obviously this means you can't really use your browser for anything else or you'd be wasting vpn data.
You can use incognito mode and make sure the vpn is blocked from running. Or just use a different browser. From a quick google search, it looks like those are simpler options than trying to run two separate instances of one browser.
Uh. Quick note for something that literally just happened as I'm writing this post. I think I accidentally let the last episode end and as the next thing was trying to play Amazon detected the vpn. A quick browser restart & going to the show by link in Mark's vid fixed it.
Scratch that apparently it didn't fix it. But I still got a good few repeats in so it'll work for some time at least.

psa to anyone that uses pinterest!! pinterest has been mass banning accounts without notice. innocent pins (like photos of fruit or hands) are being flagged as explicit and results in their entire account getting permanently suspended. right now, there aren’t tangible ways to protect your account but you can mass download your pins using external apps. i used the pindownloader pro extension on google chrome, but this costs money. others are using gallery.dl, which you can find a tutorial on how to use here.

I think Jas may have abandoned ao3 enhancements, it has completely stopped working 💔💔💔 this is so sad. I looked around and apparently there's some way to download it but I don't think it works on mobile... all the reviews are saying it's stopped working, and theres a reddit thread about it. I'm in genuine mourning.☹️
huh??? it's working for me. even accepts new filtered words and everything, I'm not sure why it would stop tbh, it's not really syncing anything to function, why would the creator abandoning it effect it?
in any case... here. i wrote a tutorial a few years back on how to allow desktop extensions on firefox mobile. as long as you're not on ios it should work. give it a shot and see if it works maybe
and if you ARE on ios, use the orion browser. it allows both extensions from chrome AND firefox. let me know if you've got any developments on this!

An AO3 app? -- The next installment in my AO3 posting.
I'm going to preface this by telling you that I don't entirely understand the urge or need to have an app for everything, but then again, I am closer to 30 than 20, so maybe that's the difference. Moving on.
So I've seen a lot of people saying that they wish there was an AO3 app. Presumably these people read AO3 on their phones or tablets. The thing is, there is NO AO3 app. If you see an app in the App Store or the Play Store claiming to be an AO3 app, it is fake, and you should not download it.
Say it with me kids:
"ao3 does not have an app and will not have an app."
The thing is, there's a really good reason why it will never happen. If you've been on this site (tumblr) long enough you'll either remember or have heard about the great tumblr porn ban (aka the ban on "female presenting nipples"). Believe it or not there was time where the tumblr (official) policy on adult content was "go nuts, show nuts. whatever." <-- actual quote btw.
A big reason why the tumblr porn ban ever happened was because of the tumblr app, specifically, the tumblr app for iOS. Apple decided one day that they thought that the tumblr app contained too much "sensitive content" and they banned tumblr's app from the Apple App Store, until such time as tumblr took what they believed sufficient corrective action for this "issue." Apple also believed that tumblr's app was hosting CP, which they considered a violation of their TOS.
So, in response to Apple banning them from the app store (which did not effect current users of the tumblr app, only potential new tumblr users), tumblr rolled out the adult content ban, so that they could get re-instated on the App Store. Like many other new "features" and "updates" to this site, the roll out was clunky, badly done and deeply unpopular. It was easily one of the worst changes for this site, in no small part because of how clunky it was; lots of innocuous posts were incorrectly flagged, and many bloggers found their entire blogs flagged, with little recourse in the initial wake of the ban. Critically, this event saw a great many users on tumblr leave this platform for twitter. How this affected site culture is up to debate.
Why am I telling you this? Well, as I am sure you, as an AO3 user are well aware, AO3 hosts a great deal of "adult content," of many persuasions and forms. They are explicitly against censorship of any kind. The app store is NOT against all censorship. These are two conflicting values. Since AO3 (and by extension OTW) has no interest in purging content from their site on behest of a megacorp (which btw is also why they rely on donations only and don't serve advertisements), they have no interest in developing an app, given the potential for restrictions.
Besides, AO3's website is simple, clean, and mobile responsive. Why fix something that ain't broke??
But, wait, if you're the target audience I'm hoping to reach with this post, you still want an app for AO3 on your home screen!
Never fear, my app loving youngsters! There is a way for you to create an "app" icon on your iPad or iPhone's home screen for AO3 (or any other site you like really) Apologies Android users; I don't have an Android, so I can't show you something analogous to this on Android, and don't know if they have it. Ditto on Kindle Fire.
This tutorial will use both safari and Firefox*. I won't show you Chrome (derogatory) because I don't have it and don't use it.
*Side note, switching to Firefox today is a great thing that you can do for yourself. You can easily import all of your Chrome bookmarks if that's what worries you.
In Firefox:
Step 1. Visit AO3 in the Firefox browser.
Tumblr media
Step 2. Tap the hamburger menu in the right hand side of the top ribbon to reveal the browser and page settings and options menu, and locate the "Share" option (highlighted in blue below):
Tumblr media
Step 3. In the "share" menu popup, locate and tap the "Add to Home Screen" option (highlighted in blue below):
Tumblr media
Step 4. Give your new "app" (secretly just a bookmark) a title. You can leave it as the default, but I suggest shortening it so that the entirety of it shows on your home screen. You can name it whatever you want.
Tumblr media
In Safari:
Step 1. Visit AO3 in the Safari browser.
Tumblr media
Step 2. Tap the share icon in the right hand side of the top ribbon and scroll down until you find the "Add to Home Screen" option (highlighted in green below). Tap this option.
Tumblr media
Step 3. In the "add to home screen" pop up, type whatever name you want in the name field (highlighted in green below). You can leave it as the default, but I suggest that you change it to something shorter so it displays in full with the icon on the home screen.
Tumblr media
Either way, you should end up with an icon on your home screen that looks like this:
Tumblr media
This is not an "app" BUT it is an icon on your home screen. When you tap the icon, it takes you to the home page of AO3, in whatever browser you created the bookmark in. You can move it around however you'd like, just like a real app, and put it any folder you'd like.
So that's all I have for this chat.
See you again next time I get inspired to write an ao3 chat/tutorial post for newbies!
Final note, If any of my followers have Android devices or Kindle Fire devices and want to add a photo tutorial for this on those platforms to this post, please feel free to, since I don't have any devices with either of those OSes, and thus could not do that myself.

Someone reblogged my high & dry audio post and asked how they could download the song, so I figured I'd be helpful and post a lil tutorial of my favourite tumblr extension: XKit Rewritten.
Firstly you have to download the extension- I use firefox (I'd recommend replacing chrome or edge with firefox any day, btw- but I think most people know that) here's a link to that here though they do have a chrome extension
Install the extension as you would any other extension on your browser and it'll appear like this on your toolbar
Tumblr media
When you click the X a menu pops up and you can go through and choose whichever ones sound good to you- for this you'll want to enable vanilla audio which I have highlighted in yellow:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
once that's enabled you can right click on the audio post and save it as you do anything else.
Tumblr media
Or you can find the song you want on youtube and do the old "google convert youtube video to mp3" and paste the link into one of those sites... but! this is also another option.
