I drew this wayyy earlier in this NaNoWriMo Season. Like November 3rd maybe?
So one of my main complaints with Anne Bronte’s Agnes Grey is actually the portrayal of Rosalie and Matilda Murray (none of my followers/mutuals are probably surprised, I’m sure).
So Vicar Hatfield is hitting on 17 year old Rosalie...Yeah, gross. In 1847 when the novel came out, it was acceptable for full grown ass adult men to do that. So instead of maybe demonizing the child (or children in this case because 15 year old Matilda functions as Rosalie’s side kick in Agnes Grey) maybe we should reframe that story in its proper light? Cue Kesha’s “Dinosaur” on full blast.
Yeah, Rosalie is a bit of a Victorian Regina George and Matilda is her rude horse-loving sister (read Victorian gender/sexuality code: a butch lesbian). Basically, they are both supposed to be examples Anne Bronte uses to tell little Victorian girls how not to be. Ouch.
The top panel is Anne Bronte’s versions of Matilda and Rosalie because they’re technically the second arc villains of her text as they are unpleasant to Agnes, the heroine, specifically and everyone else in general.
And the bottom panel is closer to how they are in my NaNo project. I felt bad for both of them in the original book. At the end of the book, Rosalie is in a loveless marriage (not to Hatfield thank God) and the new governess (not Agnes) is trying to break Matilda’s spirit and force her to conform to the ideals of a straight Victorian Lady. :/
So I decided to answer the question of what happens next for Matilda (and other characters though she was my focal character for this project) with my NaNo project. I also explain why Rosalie and Matilda were horrible when Agnes knew them as well as many other things. The Markhams from The Tenant of Wildfell Hall will appear briefly in the story too as well of a boat load of fictional Victorian lesbians and gay men who befriend Matilda as she lives multiple lives across the second half of the 19th century.
I basically reclaimed the Murray girls and rewrote their stories. Is that unhinged of me? Very possibly- especially since they aren’t supposed to be the heroines- but that’s what I’ve been working on this past month along side my grad studies.
#sorry but in my mind Hatfeild was like 30 so this was mega yikes territory#so light him on fire Matilda (not literally but maybe literally)#my horse also thinks you're dumb!#also you have to love the 1800's swears of ass and damn XD#butch feral horsegirl is very much a lost lesbian archetype or historic I guess#Stephen Gordon and Matilda Murray are basically echoes of each other#But Hall is sympathetic because she is basically Stephen#while Bronte gives more of an average Victorian view point of lesbians and gnc women#also it's early victorians (Bronte) vs. late victorians (Hall) too#Thank you Radclyffe Hall for confirming my theory about this being an archetype#nanowrimo 2022#WIP#comics#victorian lit#classic sequels#no I didn't orginally plan to write this but I was like- no actually they're just kids and this was fucked up actually#oh and my story covers Matilda's whole life to show what life was life for queer people and women in the Victorian era#in Agnes Grey Matilda’s pretty dumb it’s Rosalie who does most of the plotting#I wouldn’t say my Tilly is dumb but she’s pretty clueless and naively trusts often when she definitely shouldn’t#she’s booksmart but street dumb if that makes sense#also barn smart because mostly all she knows is horses and dogs#and Rosie’s the opposite she only reads gothic romances to the point where she likes to pretend to live in them#basically they’re both normal teen girls but something happens to trigger the anger and spite#anne bronte#agnes grey

Because TJ opened the floodgates, have some Fun Facts about the vampire girl gang:
There are three of them, because that's a proud tradition for Evil Woman friend groups from Greek mythology on down through Shakespeare all the way to Mean Girls. (Speaking of which, as of the time of the fic they appear in, they are of course actively engaged in trying to seduce a dark-haired, naïve newcomer to join their group and the Dark Side. What else would they be doing.)
Each of their characters' design is inspired by a specific era of alternative fashion - Leah, the leader, is styled after 2010s nugoth fashion, Taylor after 00s scene and emo, and Shae after Stevie Nicks and also 1990s romantigoth.
Their primary hangout is a dead mall, where they've...extensively redecorated what used to be the food court. They sleep in the service hallways behind the actual storefronts, where no sunlight can get in. Woe betide any urban explorers who break in trying to get cool pictures of the neon lighting and murals, and linger a little too long past sunset.
Of course they ride motorbikes.

new art for merch?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’re really hyping up this release for some reason 🤔 so maybe it’ll be an extensive line of new merch featuring this art??
It seems to feature the TWST boys in the more classic Disney traditional animation art style. The clothes are suits with sashes and crystalline sleeves, which look like something a Disney prince would wear (just with less color).
So far only two examples have been released (Riddle and Leona, pictured below). We will see more designs in the days in come!

Irondad fic ideas #114
Tony has many different nicknames for Peter, and he has programmed FRIDAY to use all of them
Peter is also prone to getting stopped by security and various other employees due to the fact that he looks completely grown up and like he belongs there thank you very much
This leads to a situation in which the many different corners of Stark Industries - after inquiring of FRIDAY their own versions of "who tf is this kid?" - all know him by different names
On one floor he's Roo. On another, Crockett. Mr. Parker. Bambino. Kid. Junior...the list goes on
This only becomes a problem when employees attempt to talk about their strange new...cryptid? boss? intern?... to each other

NaNoWriMo 2022: Day 30
I went back to Tilly and Hess because they started the story for me. Huzzah for Anne Bronte crack ships! This project is a very gay sequel to Agnes Grey and it also brings in some characters from The Tennant of Wildfell Hall, briefly. And there’s a lot of people that I made up (that is almost all of the Victorian lesbians except three of them-Matilda, Miss Green, and Hess, though she has a different name in Agnes Grey and the reason for that is explained in this novel). The Starlings, Dave, Miss Holburn, Peggy, Jake, and Ursa are all my characters.
And now another NaNoWriMo season is officially over. So how did everyone else do? Did you reach your writing goals?
Well, congrats, regardless of how far you got! :D And good luck with all your editing. Mine is going to be a great Victorian beast to edit and organize. ;-;
Day 30: 1,917 Words
NaNoWriMo 2022 Word Count Total: 84,400 Words !!!
Excerpt:
I’m not sure if she knew about us or not. Mrs. Weston was clever, of course, because she had been a governess. I always got the feeling that she felt sorry for me. I don’t know if she also felt sorry for Hess. Perhaps she pitied us both. I was still trying to get a grasp on Hess’ situation, but she dodged my well-meaning inquiries about her people. I wondered if she had anyone in the world to claim her as kin. She very well could have been an orphan girl that the Westons took on to help. They were that good and kindly that I would have believed it myself; so would anyone who knew them.
If poor Hess was all alone in the world then I decided then that I would be her family. She could call me her kin. I would claim her as my own. I hated the idea that poor Hess had no one who would love her, no one who would stand up and proudly call her family. So I decided that I had to be that person to remedy the evil that the world had dealt my darling Hester.
“Don’t let me stop you.” Mrs. Weston said kindly but then reconsidered. “Girls, could you do me the great favor of going shopping for me today?”
“Both of us, Mrs. Weston?” I asked.
“Yes, you may both go. In fact, because you are such fine friends, I’d prefer it.”
“What if one of the babies wakes up when we’re gone?” Hess then asked.
“I will be fine. They’re my own children. I will have to learn to manage on my own, won’t I?”
“Mrs. Weston, we won’t leave if you don’t want us to.” I said loyally. And Hess nodded to confirm her agreement.
“You girls don’t have to stay with me forever. You aren’t my servants either. I feel badly that you feel you must work so hard.”
“We didn’t want you to strain yourself. Birth is dangerous.” I said and for some reason she seemed surprised. She doesn’t know I had seen my horse give birth nor about Mama’s friends’ funeral.
What can a naïve twenty year old girl who had never been with a man know about babies anyhow? Was what she probably thought as I spoke. Because to her, that’s what I probably was. Most girls my age were already married or were on their way to the altar. I wondered then if Hess was running from a bad suitor. We were the age for it now. She was nineteen to my twenty but she seemed to know so much more of the world. I thought what that might mean, but it did not bode well for poor Hess.
“Well, I’m surprised that they let you know that before marriage, Matilda.” Mrs. Weston said.
“It’s okay, Mrs. Weston, I don’t think I’ll ever get married. I wanted to be a bluestocking when I was a little girl.” I admitted and her eyes widened at that.
Hess gave me an odd look which I couldn’t read. But I get the feeling that my words upset her somehow. I don’t know why they would. It should have reassured her. I wasn’t going to leave her for a male suitor. I would have loved to hear her say something similar. Her silence however was pained more than I had expected and at the time, ignorant to the ways of the world, I didn’t yet realize why.

On a much brighter and lighter topic!
I originally wanted to make this post on my side-blog about fairytales, but I'll do it here thanks to having a wider audience. Because I have not seen people talk about this when I think it should?
I want to talk about Disney's Enchanted and its sequel, Disenchanted.
Tumblr media
So we all know that Enchanted is Disney's self-homage and parody of all the classical Disney fairytale movies. It is the quintessential boil down and humoristic summary of Snow-White, and Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, and the Little Mermaid, and so forth and so on... It is all their tropes and archetypes and the like. That has been well established, well analyzed, well discussed upon.
Tumblr media
But when it comes to Disenchanted, Enchanted's sequel, there is I think something people completely missed... Haven't you noticed that this movie had the quintessential feel of a "Disney sequel"?
Literaly and figuratively. They pull tropes and ideas and concepts from all the Disney sequels, from The Little Mermaid 2 to Cinderella 3. And by extension, when you look at Disenchanted as a whole, you actually get this very unique and distinct feeling of a Disney sequel. This feeling hard to put into words but that you have upon looking at The Lion King II, or Aladdin II, or the 101 Dalmatians II.
Tumblr media
You know the feeling. You know the type of thing I am talking about.
The movie is not as great as the first one and can only be compared badly to it, but it is still a fine and enjoyable product on its own right.
The movie expands the universe set by the original, and yet it feels like this new story is of a much smaller scope than the first.
It explores the consequences and the aftermaths of the first movie, usually through a "next generation".
It feels weird somehow. Not "uncomfortable" weird, but somewhere between "funny" weird and "bizarre" weird.
Or is it just me? Whereas Enchanted is the essence of typical Disney "classics"... Disenchanted really managed to recreate and sum up perfectly the feel of a "Disney sequel".

So we all basically already knew it, but after the latest trailer it's been officially announced: The Toymaker is back in the 60th anniversary eps.
So hyped for that! Hopefully it means his original story will have it's missing episodes animated soon.
