I feel like computer science has one of the the largest gaps between its teachers and its student of any field I've seen. Like undergrad physics majors are basically baby physicists, they do heavy derivations and like math and want to understand the world from first principles. Undergrad mathematicians are learning to care about rigor and build things up from first principles. Undergrad engineers have the same kind of pragmatic focus on efficiency that seasoned engineers do.
CS professors are either mathematicians or hacker/engineer types, and undergrad CS majors largely seem to be codemonkeys in training who are scared of math. Like it is so bizarre to me that we have people doing foundational work in logic and proof theory teaching classes to people who get scared when they see an inequality and want to cash out and write Javascript for 6 figures. What even is this field?

Staff is so up their own butt about the whole "we dont force our employees (undel) to stay up at odd hours to flip a manual switch for festivals/events (even though there's no logical reason why undel is the only one who can do it to begin with). we are the best employers ever and we are amazing for not employing crunch. Oh by the way, whatever codemonkey we actually bother hiring is going to have to be on call 24/7 uwu hyperflexible scheduling that we're allowed to change on a whim mandatory" like sorry but insisting on festivals and events being manual switch only isn't a flex if you're going to somehow try and incorporate it into fart huffing about what amazing employers you are lol you could easily code it to be automated and put on a timer. no need to wax poetic about how anti-crunch you are for brownie points

Capstone Research: What Kitchen Chaos Taught Me.
A majority of my semester has been spent following a 11 hour YouTube guide on building CodeMonkey's cooking game Kitchen Chaos from the ground up. While the making process has been a huge amount of doing, I feel that this tutorial is equal parts observation. I feel that the video is the kind of thing that you don't actively think about, but are constantly responding to. So much of those hours were spent going out of our way for the sake of doing more complicated steps that would not pay off for hours. The first four hours of the video, for that matter, are spent really just putting scripts together with very infrequent tangible products. After leading in with the player movement, there is a dry spell in "things you make the game do" until about the halfway mark. But, like that, your game goes from hardly functional to the core mechanics, and the most remarkable part of that is that its the difference of maybe 100 lines of code. That shouldn't be possible, but it really is just reference upon reference to all the more complicated junk you've just written, but handled in a way that is so comprehensive and organized, that, to a beginner, it is actually easy to understand what you are looking at. I don't think the tutorial taught me how to make scripts for my own games, given that if I tried to right now with no reference I'd be utterly helpless, but I think that the principles it has taught me are going to affect every piece of code I ever write going forward.
