[Image ID: Several images of black text on white or light grey background. It reads: Mahpiohazia: The frustration of being unable to fly, a shadow caused by a cloud/ Can you tell? Does it show? I'm alone in a city of ghosts, awake to the howling silence/ The Sky's open wide, there is nowhere for you to hide, the hunter's moon is shining/ I walk alone, I'm everything, my ears can hear and my mouth can speak/my spirit talks, I know my soul believes/ Standing on the cliff face, highest fall you'll ever grace, it scares me half to death/ I am tried of having hands, she said, I want wings- But what will you do without your hands to be human? I am tired of human, she said/ She longed for a thunderstorm/ You hear a raging, thunderous cry... /End ID]

it’s never anything more
than surface level,
the way my eyes stare into yours,
the way my lips move just the way you like them.
you cannot seem to get past pulchritude,
you love the way my hair hangs just below the waist.
and when i try to talk to you about
something simple, like the worlds latest events.
all i can feel is your eyes
scanning my clothed body.
wishing and wishing,
for something else.

bisected
The division sounds clear-cut, but in fact many parts of our bodies–
teeth, breasts, arms, legs, genitalia–
are intricate combinations of ectoderm and mesoderm.
Princes collected them;
naturalists catalogued them;
theologians turned them into
religious propaganda.
But it is rather the outcome of molecular conflict
over its fate.
It will have a head,
a neck,
a spinal column,
a gut;
it will have
a heart.
Like hearts and livers,
bones are continually built up
and broken down
in a cycle of
construction and destruction.
And from that point on
the odds were
fifty-fifty that
her heart would be placed the
wrong way round
the result is cardiac
bifida,
two hearts, each only half
what it should be.
Their fleshy intricacies seem less
versions of each other than
organs of radically divergent
construction,
which somehow,
miraculously enough,
work
together
little more than anatomical curiosities.
It was the first scientific explanation of
connectedness.
- lines from Armand Marie Leroi's Mutants
