Wholehearted Saga 1st Anniversary

Good timezone, friends! I hope you all are doing well. Today, February 20th, 2023 is the first year anniversary of the Wholehearted Saga premiering! It all began with publishing the first chapter of Wholehearted Half-Souls on AO3 and Wattpad, and now here we are one year later. Thank you to everyone for your support so far! I appreciate each and every one of you for reading my works and all of your support and care.

I also have milestone news! We hit our goal of surpassing 3000 hits on AO3! The AO3 version of Wholehearted Half-Souls now sits at 3003 hits on AO3 as of this post. Thank you to everyone who has read the story thus far, and for helping in achieving the goal of reaching the 3000 landmark before the 1st anniversary.

I would also like to thank all of the artists and beta readers who assisted with bringing this post-pacifist sequel series together. I couldn't do it without any of them, and I'm appreciative of them all.

Thank you again to everyone who has shown support through reading my stories, along with creating art for it and beta reading for me. I hope you all enjoy my current project, Wholehearted Origins. FAS 3003- Blexbolex

Blexbolex is a French graphic artist who is known for his picture books, comics, silkscreens and posters. He studied silk screening in Paris as part of Jean-François Guilberteau's studio (Schuddeboom, 2021). His artwork is inspired by the style 'Ligne Claire', a drawing style most commonly seen in the book 'The Adventures of Tintin', created by Hergé (Thomas, 2012). Ligne Claire in French translates to 'Clear line' and involves clear, concise outlines with vibrant colours most commonly seen in children's books.

Looking at this art style and specifically Blexbolex's work, I wanted to experiment using similar techniques to create my outcomes. I started by selecting an image to work from and blocking out the image's primary colours. From this, I was able to make a stencil that I could screen print from. I decided to remove the finer details as it gave the image more of a comic book effect which I liked.

The use of negative space created by the stencils worked well for this piece. This helps make a focal point within the piece and directs the viewer's eyes to the positive shape in this photo, which is the motorway road signs.

does the legion ever get old or do they stay teengers under 18 forever?

They do get old! One of the benefits of not having to try to stick to the same timeline as the greater DCU.

The first time the concept was touched on was in Adventure Comics #354, the first issue of the "The Adult Legion!" storyline. Superman gets called to the future-future by the now adult Legion, featuring illustrious members such as Lightning Man, Polar Man, women quitting the Legion to become house wives, and pipe smoking Brainy:

This story was actually referenced in later stories as well, but was eventually retconned into being an alternative future.

But the act of ageing wasn't limited to just alternative futures or one-off stories; both the pre-boot Legion and the reboot Legion showed signs of ageing throughout their runs.

It's more obvious with the pre-boot due to the length of their run. In the beginning they're often refereed to as kids or teenagers and are drawn to look fairly young (or at least the artist's idea of young), their constitution even states that all members had to be below the age of 18 when joining the team. As time goes on however it becomes clear that that's not the case anymore, with members starting to look older, retiring from the Legion, getting married and even having kids. It's as far as I know quite unclear exactly how old they're supposed to be at that point (or really any point), but by the mid 80s the older members seem to be in the 25-30 range. By 5YL they're all old as shit, but that's a time jump.

It's less obvious with the reboot Legion, but they age too. They're 15-ish at the start of the run, despite not always looking the part. Most of them don't go through any huge physical changes (that don't involve turning into Jan), but their early stories are stated to be set in 2994 and a couple of late stories are set in 3003, meaning most of them would be in their early to mid twenties towards the end of the run. This also fits the escalation of themes and them looking to be about the same age as characters who are stated to be in that age range.

Threeboot and Bendisboot are both too short to allow any significant amount of ageing.
