100 days of productivity: Day 13
-Company-
This system seems to be working out. During the time, I was away I met a very special person that I have the luck of calling my significant other. He's also a student in another city on his final year trying to wrap everything up too. We've started studying together over discord whenever we get to have some dedicated time for that, as a way to spend quality time together while also motivating each other in our own goals. It is very relieving and refreshing to have this type of moral and practical support, with no fear of judgement.

People always talk about Shen qingqius view on sex and how his trauma impacted it. But what about Yue Qingyuans view on sex?
Similarly to Shen Jiu throughout childhood most touch he expirenced was violent( being beaten on the streets) however unlike shen jiu he never expirenced sexual violence.
I feel like after he rose to power as the next in line to be sect leader for worlds largest sect, that people would want him to remain pure. That him having his virginity well into his ascension would be a sign of his godhood and how he hadn't fallen to human temptations.
Thats why Shen Qingqiu going to brothels is seen as such a horrible thing, because as a person in power, someone who is supposed to ascend to god hood, having sex wouldn't be the godly thing to do.
So basically Yue Qingyuan would grow up in an environment where having sex would be seen as a shameful thing to do as he would be pushed to remain pure and that it would corrupt his soul.
perhaps after Shen qingqius brothel conterversy he would start forming more opinions about how he sees sex but is still somewhat repressed about it.
Especially after those talks about teen pregnancy and STDs ruining your life in Qian Cao.
I think YQY would have weird feelings about sex, but not necessarily for the same reasons you listed. I’m not sure he views his body as his own. As a child he was property to be loaned out, worked, and and beaten. He had no recourse because to the eyes of everyone else, he was an object. Coming to Cang Qiong as a disciple, he suffers under the same lack of autonomy most children do- they aren’t in control of their lives, the adults around them are. Then, when he’s locked in the caves, his body is permanently altered without his consent, leaving him in pain and desperate for an entire year. Finally, as a sect leader and soon to be god, he no longer gets to be a person at all. To be a proper immortal and good leader, he must represent an ideal. There is no room for a man behind the role he fills. He doesn’t get to have desires or fears.
One thing a lot of Qijiu smut authors do well is having YQY fully hand over his body to SJ to do as he pleases. His pleasure isn’t the priority, his desire is not a factor, his preferences don’t exist. He is only a warm body that will follow every command exactly as issued because the only desire he is allowed to have is to serve. The funny thing about sex though is that after a certain point, both parties need to be selfish. Sex as a mutual act of pleasure is not fulfilled by unselfishly servicing the other party. It’s not an equivalent exchange.
It’s part of what makes Qijiu work together sexually so well. SJ fears selfish violence and is a very selfish, controlling person. YQ doesn’t know how to see himself as a person who deserves to feel good, so gives up control entirely to SJ and will never do anything unasked for. SJ gets to be as selfish and controlling as he wants- in fact he needs to for sex to work at all. Otherwise YQ would just kinda lie there.

It’s horrible how my design course has killed my enjoyment in creativity because all they want is finished pieces founded in nothing but a spontaneous mark just to hang at some concrete art gallery or to sell to some “join our revolution” comfy business-casual company with a prison cell wellness room. I’m not saying that it’s “not art” —cos that’s a different post altogether— it’s that the ethos behind this particular formula for art education is ruining the way we think about creation.
Design courses (and other art courses I’ve heard?) are no longer teaching artists or designers techniques, drawing skills, art fundamentals and allowing them to find their own voice so much as they are only instructing how to tic boxes alongside pushing corporate and classist motivated style/methodology bias aimed at producing workers, not creatives, not to mention providing Adobe with endless funds for their despicable scam programs. That’s it. My creativity is only a means to money for them, and if they can extract the process of creation from me without the complex creative intimacy involved in it, they know they can churn out products and services faster and it’s concerning some lecturers don’t seem to be aware this is what they’re teaching? Like they’re buying into industry propaganda?
And the whole time it’s sold to you like you can be some trailblazer when the irony is they’re usually either prepping you for cubicle work or for some misguided high horse creative team pumping out design solutions completely divorced from the reality. I’m tired of all the talks about sustainability in a vacuum with no conversation about nuanced designs that factor in broader social and economic perspectives which lack thereof is leading to sustainable products being sold at a price only able to be afforded by wealthier people who are causing said economic and social problems and contributing to the rapid obsoletion of trades and crafts. Lecturers and speakers don’t seem to think that’s any of our concern and should just worry about producing the design for the hypothetical Bluetooth powered organic hairbrush or using the twigs to make the pattern for the £85 fabric square.
Like? Can I please make something that actually resonates with people outside the circle jerk of egotistical creatives and corporations? Something charming and maybe idk something that doesn’t make me want to tear my miserable portfolio in half with my teeth? And they’re like Mm nope sorry it has to be an extreme close up of a mark making abstract leaf you made from a recycled trash bag inspired by a stalled urban space which we will force you to price at £100 during your exhibition 5 people will bother to attend and no you’re not allowed any other style cos this isn’t the Dark Ages :///
I think the worst thing my lecturer ever said was, while looking around the room of our class work reduced down to a series of cubes and splatters and abstract typography, “Wow, I love how you can’t tell what anyone’s [main artist discipline] is!” Like awww conformity at the expense of a person’s individuality to make pieces for airport hallways and rich people’s living rooms wow so cool heehee like girl that’s not good?? Why on Earth are you complimenting us for that? Like I get it, I thought this course would boost skillset as an illustrator (as we were told), turns out the degree is really not for me, fair enough to anyone thinking that, but forcing students to produce modern abstract art because you think it’s the ONLY Logical Pathway for the future of design, judging them intensely for doing a different style, and thinking producing financially inaccessible art + design is the solution to things like climate change and community severance is an objectively bad take.

do you think Kleiner's time as an MIT professor worked its way into Alyx's early childhood education. Do she and Gordon get to swap stories of classroom experiences, one from the halls of a big expensive university and the other from uncle kleiner's homeschool preschool

I have a bookstagram, and I recently followed someone because they posted about the overconsumption issue that most bookish social media seems to have. Today, though, they posted another controversial "opinion": that listening to audiobooks isn't reading, and people who claim to have read a bunch of books that they listened to as audiobooks are lying and/or deluded. Listening to audiobooks, she said, is just consuming books.
I disagreed in a fairly politely worded reply, and I intend to unfollow/block, because I find it unlikely this person will change their mind, especially since I'm far from the only person to point out that this is exclusionary and ableist. But this is tumblr/my house, and now I'm going to be as blunt as I want to be.
I'm a librarian and archivist. So much of the work I and others in my field do focuses on making books and reading more accessible and less exclusionary. It is, in fact, incredibly ableist to negate how important audiobooks are for people who have certain disabilities or challenges, and I would in no universe say they aren’t reading. For that matter, a busy person who only has time for audiobooks and for people who just prefer them--it still counts, as far as I'm concerned.
See, there's a difference between an audiobook and a podcast or long song or radio program. An audiobook is still a book--it was written with a particular narrative structure, and the author plays a defined but limited role (once the book is written, it's written; the author isn't tuning in next episode with comments and corrections based on what listeners said). An audiobook is a book, ergo, listening to one is reading. Using braille is reading, and listening to audiobooks is reading.
The part that has me in full Captain Raymond Holt "apparently that is a trigger for me" mode is that this bookstagrammer called listening to audiobooks consumption. In the context of her other posts about overconsumption as an issue in the bookish community (again, agree, but also...mind your own business), this seems particularly insidious to me. Conflating influencer-driven (and capitalist hellscape) consumption with listening to an audiobook (again, a massive boon for the visually impaired and those with disabilities like ADHD, dyslexia, etc.) is rude at best and dangerously exclusionary at worst. Stop letting comparison be the thief of joy; mind your own business and stop looking at the pages that bother you. Focus on the kindness of leaning towards inclusion, meeting people where they are, and leaving judgment behind.*
*This person also said "feel free to comment if you disagree but please don't be mean or judgmental," as if they hadn't just posted the most ableist and judgmental sludge I've seen today.
tl;dr: don’t be a gatekeeping shithead, mind your own business, and

time to do my fav hobby which is correct stephen ambrose (my worst enemy) and consequently band of brothers’ history. this is the joseph liebgott edition (everyone’s fav).
he wasn't actually jewish, he was raised roman catholic and was assumed jewish by the company from his last name. he spoke an austrian dialect of german which was confused with yiddish. he raised his children catholic after the war and he never drove cabs after the war. he was a barber instead. he went missing for three years after the war from a presumed PTSD episode and turned up in california. he never told his 8 children about the war and they only found out after the book was written and through digging through the attic where they found his jump wings. he died in 1992.

100 days of productivity: Day 1
-Topic-
So, I'm starting another 100 days of productivity challenge which should coincide around the time when I'll be submitting my dissertation. Some accountability seems like a good idea for my procrastination issues. The dissertation has to do with industrial remnants, a very fascinating topic I'd never encountered this extensively. Looking into the history of greek industry has been exciting all in all, it explains so many characteristics when it comes to economy, society and space. In its second part, it focuses into a specific region with developmental interest and some idustrial remnants spread throughout the modern urban landscape, most of them lost and replaced, few present and haunting. I'm planning on linking it with my thesis topic, which would be to reform and reinhabit one of the complexes. I'm feeling like I'm learning again and that will lead me to create, as we do.

I'm already shipping them (would probably stop once/if I find out their names cause shipping real people makes me feel icky; but for now shipping them hard)
Frankly, there are more details I could add that make it worse.
Like that the naval officer was an unmarried bachelor his whole life.
(also, 'shipping', naval officers...the puns make themselves)
