SeaWing flesh has the same consistency and taste as lobster. Many murders have been gotten away with in the seawing kingdom by the deceased’s body being chopped up and hidden in a sack of lobster meat.

Guess who finished a test and then finished this? Yep this guy did. A bit later than I wanted. But my favorite friendship is Turtle and Peril. Tall, awkward, lanky, terrifying trans lady befriends small, chubby, anxious, fish-smelling wizard child to go on a quest. I just love their interactions. And the fact that Turtle canonically has scales that are strong as diamonds/indestructible, that means they can give each other hugs. They definitely stay friends after the ends of the books. Maybe Turtle even helps her write scrolls about firescales so other firescale dragons have stories and experiences to draw from (Ruby totally makes it illegal to murder children based on a disability/gene mutation so there are going to be more mini Peril's running around and they deserve to have stories they can relate to).

I am trying to push my shapes a bit more. So lanky Peril and chubby Turtle. He's nice and round and she's a bit more pointy. I also switched up my Peril design a bit. Turtle is the same because I low key really like my design for him. But I saw a really cool theory about how Turtle should be Anemone's colors because he's the animus. So I might have to do a drawing of that. And maybe Anemone was 'standard' colors until she was cursed by Turtle. And then the magic starts forcibly changing her colors and pushing the other colors out.

but! now to explain myself!! I made Simon (Salmon :3) a Seawing and Betty (unsure of a name just yet) a Silkwing!!

Simon was made into a Seawing because:

• sad wet cat/fish.

• scholar! i find seawings to be one of the most academic tribes second to (ancient) nightwings.

• blues/purples look nice on him i feel!

now, why Betty is a Silkwing:

• "why you so bug girl"

• she was originally either a sand or sky, but i wanted to play around with silk because i never do! and it just fit! she also didn't feel sky to me, but sand it 100% a runner up. (was tempted to make her a hybrid)

• i feel like her silk will really assist in her look as GOLBetty? (bug eyes)

now i'm going to spout random nonsense out of nowhere!!!

Simon and his curse would be 100% just another pyrite/hailstorm. i love the very idea of that. i feel it's very fitting. the crown would turn him into an icewing, (obviously) and when the curse is undone, queue "part of the madness" up partner

that scene where Betty ties IK up to perform the spell thing (i'm sorry i am not well versed) friends SHE USED HER SILK.

I think about Darkstalker and how love is so closely intertwined in it. His love for others (namely Clearsight, Foeslayer, Whiteout, and Fathom) is a central part to his character and the choices he makes.

I think back to his earlier enchantments. He enchanted Whiteout's favourite doll so that it would always appear under her pillow if she ever lost it. He enchanted her paint set so that they would never dry out. A plate for Foeslayer so that her food would always be warm if she came home late. He made dreamvisitors so that, even when they slept, Darkstalker, Fathom, and Clearsight could make memories and have fun.

He wants them to be happy. His love language is using his magic to gift them things he believes they want.

But, of course, what he believes isn't often what is reality.

He observed and watched Fathom experience constant anxiety and guilt over his magic. His magic he rightfully saw as a curse, unable to see it as little more than a tool for destruction and harm after witnessing the SeaWing massacre. He felt pity and sorrow for Fathom, believing that his fear was preventing him from realizing his true potential. Darkstalker tried numerous times to convince him, but when that turned out as a failure, he moved to do it by force. He enchanted the goblet to make him forget about his oath, stop caring about Indigo (who Darkstalker saw as a pest that was trying to turn Fathom against him), and willingly use his magic. He loved Fathom and thought this was best for him.

He saw first-hand how affected Clearsight was by her visions. She would neglect sleep and fall into spirals of existential dread and panic over the overwhelming nature of it all. He created the earring because he believed that it would've helped her. It was definitely also because he wanted her to keep quiet about all of these terrible futures since it was an annoying distraction, but he convinced himself it was all okay and was helping her. He loved Clearsight and thought this was best for her.

His ideal world is one where he gets to reign supreme over all of the other tribes, with him and his loved ones remaining at the top. He thought that was what was best for them all. He was convinced that's what they wanted, and even if they didn't realize it now, they would come to see that he truly wanted the best for them.

A lot of people see Darkstalker's intentions of that as purely sinister. He wanted Fathom to use his magic so that he would have another animus dragon on his side. He wanted Clearsight to shut up about the horrific futures she saw. I don't disagree with there being darker undertones, he's definitely manipulative and self-serving, but I like thinking he did care about them. Could it be because he liked being praised? Yeah, obviously, I don't doubt that, but he cared about them. He loved them.

But his love was not healthy. It was inconsiderate and selfish. It was done mainly out of his own interests and projected ideas of what they "wanted", whether he was aware of it or not. He was a tar pit who dragged others in, thinking that what he was doing was best for them. That his love and protection above all else would help them. He was unaware of how much hurt and damage he was doing to them.

FINALLY A RIVULET you'll never guess what their seawing name is.... It's just Rivulet, it already follows the naming conventions. BUT it can also be Axolotl if you want something different.

Why a seawing? Well this one is even more obvious than Gourm. Water.

Rivulet is not adapted to freshwater than salt, though they still explore and swim through all bodies of water. They have a taste for adventure and trouble. But luckily they got some Animus-influenced agility given to them by a distant iterator. They have also been given even more superior swimming and water breathing capabilities by an iterator!

Riv collects many trinkets, often using them to decorate Lttm's cavern, who they often visit.

Other dragons can tell Rivulet is Animus touched because of their mark of communication, but they don't know about the fact that Rivulet spends nearly every afternoon with an iterator.

Now's a good time to briefly mention how iterators and ancients tie into this universe:

Ancients were the dragons long before who were all Animus dragons thanks to a gift given by the first ancient, though now thought of as a curse. Everyone is magical, but then also rebirth and karmic cycle. (It sounded like a good deal at first).

Ancients created iterators to solve the great problem, dragon like creatures of metal and inorganic substances. All iterators were given a limited range of movement (ha ha losers can't go into dragon society) and limited Animus capabilities. And the story stays the same from there. I'll talk more about it later.

Some more dragons

To give more context to people! Yes this story sounds very silly but I was trying to make things work with the tons of headcanons I have lol

Geno (sky/ice), Fresh(rain/ice), and Error(night/ice) are all half-brothers (they share the same mother who is now dead) They live in the rainforest together between the Nightwing and Rainwing territories

Geno is sickly and often needs a scarf or blankets to make him feel warmer. He sustained injuries to an attack to the rainforest and Error found out he was an animus by wishing his brother to stay alive

Fresh is a very clever hybrid who can change the colors of his scales but not as well as full Rainwings. He tends to stay either bright colors mixed with his original white

Error learned he was an animus after an attack on the rainforest, he's best friends with Ink despite always getting mad at the happy-go-lucky rainwing (Error is cousins with Cross but that'll like never get brought up or found out by any of them)

Ink is just a regular Rainwing but is friends with the hybrids out of the village so people thing he's a little funky. He's an artist through and through and Error gives him a giant brush that makes his drawings come to life using his animus powers

Dream and Nightmare are both twin Nightwing/Sandwing princes (Nightmare got bullied too hard for being a "bastard prince" even though Dream is also one) Both are empaths and can feel other's emotions!

A massacre happens in the Sandwing Kingdom when the royal family (trying to stay pure) tries to kill Nightmare when Dream isn't around. Nightmare escapes, angry that his brother got better treatment than him, while killing many other dragons in the process

Blue is a royal Seawing guard in training even though his parents wanted him to be a cook and Red is a Skywing who is captive by the queen since he was experimented on by his father (scientist)

Reaper is an outcasted Nightwing due to accidentally killing people with just a touch (animus curse by xgaster) He uses it to his advantage with his Nightwing powers by being able to prophecy someone’s future or find parts of their past. He is known as this Reaper judge that gets sent for when giant disputes happen and the Queens of the tribes need to figure out who to punish. When he meets Geno, who is also animus touched to not die, Reaper is fascinated that he is able to touch Geno

The broad animus stuff is due to Xgaster (Nightwing who is part of a split tribe situation with eviler Nightwings lol) trying experiments on Nightwing eggs to make their dragonets stronger. I imagine its a group still like wanting to be better than every other tribe and resides in the old Nightwing palace

Cross is a Nightwing who is gonna stop his dad in the big storyline

MURDER TRIO! All of them are dragons that were outcasted and seen as incompetent or needed a home. They pledged their allegiance to the Sandwing prince Nightmare and promised to help him take the throne.

Dust is an animus prince in the Icewing tribe that went crazy after killing his siblings, he tends to be calm but becomes crazed easily and can kill easily with his powers (although he tends not to use them anyways and is just a very good fighter). He created a cloak to calm himself down and he tends to keep it over himself. He actually ran away because the judge (Reaper) was going to be sent to their tribe

Killer is a Rainwing that was captured and trained to fight in the now shut down Skywing arena. He was used as target practice for his changing scales and they even burned a target onto his chest so they'd always be able to see him even when his scales changed

Horror is a bigwings who watched all his sibs die during a famine in the Mud kingdom (due to drought). Older Mudwings tried to kill him for being a waste of space but he escaped and joined Nightmare.

Dandys world wings of fire!!! Since there’s so many in the post I’m not going into full descriptions but here they are! Def want to revise tisha a bit to give her slightly more obvious icewing traits and a wider rectangle shape. And cosmo isn’t feeling cosmo to me yet, so I’ll be revising him too but yay! (Astro will get really tiny changes probably, giving his cloak that copies his blanket a hood so he can have SOMETHING on his bald head)

Each characters and their tribes though because some of them are cut off

Sprout - Leafwing / Skywing, powerful leafspeak but no skywing abilities. Has big wings though! Currently not under dandys control

Astro - Nightwing / Seawing, born with powerful mind reading to the point of being able to go into others dreams. Animus cursed by dandy with powerful future sight with good intentions, the first to be controlled by dandys own silly version of evil leafspeak. Can’t breath underwater, can’t even breath fire! But can fully speak aquatic if he wanted to.

Dandy - Rainwing / Leafwing, born with absolutely no leafspeak and can’t spit venom but he does have full color changing abilities. Second active threat on the island, supposed to be the “friendly face” you can trust.

Vee - Hivewing / Silkwing, Hivewing stingers in tail and wrists with the abilities that comes with having silkwings antennae. Not under dandys control, but no friendly face either.

Cosmo - mudwing, distant nightwing which manifests in some star shaped patterns! Not under dandys control and is actively protected by sprout. Sprout used his animus magic once and that was to create a charm for him to makes sure dandy won’t hurt him

Tisha - Icewing / Leafwing, came to the island with teagan and was her childhood friend and maid. Originally assigned to Teagan as a dragonet to keep them company, and just sorta became her personal maid when they got older. No leafwing ability’s and is cold to the touch. Has icewings frost breath though weakened by her leafwing genes. Not under dandys control

Rodger - Nightwing with future sight, detective and came to the island to get answers. Toodles was not supposed to come with him, but she managed to sneak by and now him and toodles, teagan, and tisha are stuck on the island thanks to vee. Had an ear torn in his youth and early detective days, which is also how he got his eye scar. Not under dandys control.

Glisten - Silkwing / sandwing, pretty much all Silkwing abilities. Has a sandwing barb but it’s ineffective and small, so no sandwing scorpion action going on. Yada yada I already talked about him. His design and traits are made to mirror (heh) vee though, soooo… not under dandys control

Flutter - silkwing, just a small fat fluffy silkwing with big ol eyes. Currently under dandys control, though wasn’t drawn with that in mind (all drawings of these dragons are before things go REALLY bad so far). Overcome by flowers instead of vines.

And here's the guy from the main story~

Wolffish's a full rainwing who was raised among seawings and had picked up a lot of seawing expressions and curses from his family. He discovered the properties of rainwing venom on his own and even learned to spit it quite accurately, and the old scar on his tail serves as a reminder of the danger of this ability. At an older age, he finally visited his native forest and became imbued with traditions of his tribe, but did not stay - he quickly became bored with the life of the rainwing, and he loved his work too much. What kind of work? Wolffish was a mailman. In wartime, his camouflage skills became simply irreplaceable - this way he could deliver a letter to almost anywhere on the continent, avoiding clashes with any dragons. Word about the unusual carrier quickly spread, and lucrative, but much less harmless offers started coming to him. Wolffish didn't refuse them - since his skills can be useful not only for simple letters delivery, why not? Money is money, and the opportunity to provide a comfortable life for yourself and even help your family sounded irresistible. Life was great and all, but interests of his customers often ran counter to each other, and, unbeknownst to himself, Wolffish made some enemies. One day his luck ran out and he got caught... Varan pulled him out of this scrape, and from this began a new era of Wolffish’s life - first as one of the confidants for the gang leaders, and then as Varan’s personal bodyguard. Wolffish isn't confrontational nor vindictive, and he is friendly with his comrades, but most of the Center members treat him with some caution. His camouflage, tracking and venom shooting skills, perfected over the years, have made him one of the most dangerous gang members, and few dragons would risk crossing his path. The habit of walking around the camp unseen also does not help Wolffish get closer to the dragons, so his usual social circle is limited to Varan’s second-in-command, the leader himself and, unexpectedly, Newt. What’s interesting is that Wolffish and Newt aren't just good friends, but also ex-lovers - their relationship developed very rapidly, and just as quickly grew from romance to platonic friendship. Breakup was pretty painless, and they remained quite close. Prejudices towards dragons from different tribes are not so pronounced in the gang, and yet only Newt and Wolffish understand what it's like to be a rainwing (or half-rainwing) far from homeland. What’s ironic is that the “seawing” Wolffish has a much more “rainwing” lifestyle than Newt, who grew up in the tropic forest, but they still often have “sun hours” together (Newt may have inherited most of the genetics from his mudwing side, yet sun is also extremely necessary for his health). Unfortunately, things haven't been so great between them recently. The tense atmosphere of the Center in the light of recent events has affected the relationship between all members, and Newt has an additional reason not to trust his comrades. Wolffish's still a part of Varan's inner circle, and Newt isn't sure he'll put their friendship above loyalty to the gang leader if things go wrong.

Fun fact: “a very competent flirt” was the initial concept for Newt in the first version of the story, but over time I moved away from this idea.

Thinkin' of WOF Au for DC, but like, it's a Gothamite and Fawcett thing. (And Amity Park if crossover)

Like those are the most magical areas in the world, even if Gotham is cursed as fuck. An unspoken secret of sorts that while they present themselves as human to outsiders, they are all Very Much Not.

Which means hilariously in the league, when everyone expects Batman to be suspicious and short with the new guy- even made bets on it- they are then shooketh when both visibly relax and start talking. And half the shared complaints don't make sense!

Now Gotham technically has no Queen, nor does Fawcett, but Batman and Captain Marvel are the closest things. Not in the traditional sense of back when they were in separate tribes (& maybe from a different dimension but shh that was millennia ago) but in the sense of, they're the ones patrolling and protecting the cities along with calling the shots in disasters.

Which does sort of change the dynamic they both have in their city. If one of them calls to arms, the city would follow them. They could declare war, and their cities (begrudgingly in Gotham's underbelly's case of strongest is in charge) would follow. And while Billy is oblivious, both Marvel-the-not-hivemind and Batman are. They know they have to be very careful.

I'm sure we all want Nightwing Bruce but no. Bruce, like both his mother and father and father's father and so on before him, is actually an Icewing. The Waynes however, have a case of melanism running in their bloodline. Thomas Wayne? Only his quills and part of his back were darker, but Bruce? Practically pitch black scales that shadow his eyes.

Now Alfred on the other hand, is a Nightwing. No special powers there, though you would hear many a child protest with how he seems to know everything.

Commissioner Gordon is a Mudwing, big stocky and very tired, which translates to his human disguise as a large trenchcoat. He finds this very amusing. Barbara similarly, is half Mudwing. Her mother was a Hivewing, making her a hybrid between both. Which does ironically mean that Batgirl does in fact have insectoid wings. Though that does ponder the question on if they'd all go by their original vigilante names.

Dick is a Silkwing. Wingless as he watches his parents fall and unable to do anything despite this place supposedly being safe for beings like them. He grows into his own, and his wings, when they come in, are dark Gotham colors through and through, with the deep blue of the sky he's come to crave.

Jason is a hybrid between a Mudwing and a Skywing. He's also an animus- not that he knew that. He doesn't find out until he's dying, telling himself to not die, to get back to Gotham, to his dad, his family- And then he wakes up in his Coffin, alive.

Now Cass, raised to be the perfect killer, is also a hybrid, just one between a Nightwing and a Rainwing, egg set out under the moon. Which succeeds, partially. She can't straight up read minds, but combined with her talent in reading body language on both human and inhuman bodies, it's a near thing.

Tim is a Seawing, borderline abandoned by his parents who seek treasures and more wealth as he's trapped back in a city where the water is dark and poisoned. But he's Gothamite, through and through, and he adapts. Scales darker than the original blues he was born with, and glow shifting to that sickly white of the Gotham's Bats.

Now Steph, is a full-blooded Rainwing, and can in fact change her scales, but can mostly be found in purples and golds. Though for a short time she was in another set of colors, thought dead before she slithered out of the shadows older and wiser than before.

Damian is his father's son, but he's also an Al-Ghul. The not-quite dragonet is half Icewing, and half Sandwing. And struggled to adjust at first, to a place so different from his first home where the only other dragons were blood related. But like any Wayne before him, he adjusts, and he adapts.

Billy wasn't a Beetlewing originally, and perhaps he would have hesitated if he'd known it would change him, would change his body and the last thing he had of his parents. But his friends, his Team and new family help. And he can pass as a Silkwing like their sort-of foster mother. All six of them can do so now, even if the others look more like hybrids themselves thanks to not being the Champion. They might not be, but they're his family. And that's enough.
