had to watch frankenstein with benedict cumberbatch playing the monster at school this morning. hated it. absolutely hated it.
it's things like this that kind of bring back the fear of how i'm perceived. i'm not free of that fear yet, no matter how much i'd like to pretend i am.
when cumberbatch was groaning and writhing on the floor of the stage for almost a solid ten minutes, my classmates were laughing.
when he met felix's father and became friends with him, one boy said, "what if the couple come back and find this freakshow in their house?"
when my tics started acting up, brought on by stress, i worried that the others were going to laugh at me and think i was a freakshow.
in cumberbatch's performance as frankenstein's monster, i saw aspects of myself that i try to hide because other people don't want to see them. unless, of course, they're being performed onstage by a neurotypical able-bodied actor playing a character who is inherently viewed as less than human.
i understand that there are some similarities between the character of frankenstein's monster and autistic people, seeing as both are often confused by the world and seen as weird by other people. i don't think it was out of malice that cumberbatch decided to study autism to figure out how to play the character.
but you know what they say. intent can't always change the impact.
even if the portrayal of the character isn't supposed to be ableist, there is still something incredibly uncomfortable about being an autistic person and having to watch someone perform certain behaviours that i sometimes have, for the purpose of appearing strange. scary. childlike. unnatural.
knowing that the other people watching likely have no idea how this character relates to you, and just find it disturbing, or funny.
knowing that if i now do anything that might make me resemble the monster, that's what they might think of. instead of thinking of me as a human being doing a human thing, they might think of me as this character. this character who, while obviously meant to be sympathetic, is still, fundamentally, a monster. that's literally the main thing people know about him.
even if i wasn't supposed to, i can't help but make this connection in my head. of course, this is kind of an unavoidable part of actors portraying characters who aren't human. aliens, robots and fantastical creatures often end up being autistic-coded because actors need a way to show that these characters aren't familiar with human social conventions, and will therefore make them blunt, or over-enthusiastic, or trying to emulate human social conventions and not quite doing it right. but there are much more respectful ways to pull this off than to have a neurotypical, able-bodied man specifically trying to act like a high support needs disabled person, specifically using their physicality, vocalisations and mannerisms to show that the character he's playing isn't human, isn't natural.
i've become self-conscious of the way i move and the way i talk because of this performance. i've become self-conscious of my clumsiness, my jerky walk and my shaky arms, my loud and often slightly slurred voice, the way i pause in between words to give myself time to think of the next one, the way my tics sometimes make me pull weird faces, make weird noises, bash my head against tables and occasionally even collapse and convulse on the floor.
and my support needs aren't even that high. not compared to a lot of other autistic people. and cumberbatch was taking more inspiration from them than he was from people like me. and, even if he didn't intend to hurt them with his performance, he hurt them with his comments. i won't repeat them here. they're ten years old now. we're probably familiar with them at this point.
his comments show that he didn't really view autistic people as people. he thought the autistic teenagers he met had the minds of infants and had no thoughts beyond basic reactions and impulses. and the fact that he wanted to emulate the behaviours he saw in these people while playing frankenstein's monster ... i just don't like it.
i don't really care about the intent. and i don't care about the story's commentary on human nature or whatever, i don't care that frankenstein's monster is actually less of a monster than the human characters because he's morally good. the bottom line is, i saw a performance that fucked me up. i saw a performance, plus an audience's reaction to said performance, that made me think, "i don't feel safe. i don't like seeing myself in this character because that means other people might think about me the same way they think about him. that is, with fear, disgust, confusion or amusement. i don't want to be treated like the monster, and i'm scared that i might be."

Never forget how 10 years ago my mom and I watched Danny Boyle's Frankenstein, and she said that Jonny's portrayal was much more detailed and impressive, and that he gave a better performance in her opinion. She didn't know who Cumberbatch or Miller were at that point. I wholeheartedly agreed with her on that 😅👍

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (1974) REWATCH
Tumblr media
A classic, hilarious, and witty number that is a must watch for all human beings. Period. Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder knocked it out of the park with this one.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trigger Warning Hanging
Tumblr media
Our Young Frankenstein is just a professor when he gets an inheritance from his grandfather, Dr. Frankenstein, of an enormous castle that just so happens to have an enormous laboratory used for experimenting on the dead and bringing them back to life! Frederick leaves his fiancée back home and scurries off to his new abode and with his new assistant and housekeeper (or whatever the hell Igor is) Frederick von Frankenstein slips right back into his roots and begins to try and reanimate a corpse. With help from Igor they get a fresh dead body then Igor gets a fresh dead brain from a lab but he grabs the abnormal brain instead of the genius brain he is supposed to get (woops). When they do the experiment it seems at first to fail but later the giant man comes back to life! Amazing! But there is a problem, his abnormal brain is making him violent and he attacks Frederick. They give the monster a sedative before Frederick grills Igor on who’s brain he stole. “Abby Normal” is the name of the brain, Igor says and this tips Frederick off that the brain is actually abnormal! Before anything can be done about the violent brain there is a knock at the front door.
Tumblr media
The town cop is there, there have been whispers and murmurs (actually a whole town hall meeting with shouting) about Frederick coming back to pick up the work of his grandfather in creating monsters, but that can’t be true (ha). Frau Blücher, another housekeeper (or something) plays violin music for the monster and he loves it! It makes him docile. But then he catches on fire and runs out of the castle! He runs away and they cannot catch him, he is too fast! Oh, no! The monster has a nice interaction with a little girl, he blows a kiss to a flower and then sits on a see-saw with her and it flings her into her bedroom right into bed! A much better interaction than our poor monster in Frankenstein had! Our monster has a much less successful time with meeting the blind man though, as the blind man just spills soup in his lap, breaks a glass, then burns the monster’s thumb. Frederick and the gang set up a trap for the monster by playing beautiful violin music to lure him and then they dropped a big net on him. Whatever works.
Tumblr media
After having recaptured the monster, Frederick has a brand new and groundbreaking idea for how to tame the beast. Love. He goes in the cell with the monster and talks him up, telling him wondrous things. By the end of his grand speech Frederick is proud of his name (Frankenstein) and the monster is a calm and happy boy. Frederick takes his creation to town to show off before an audience and he has the crowd hooked on the monster's talents! But then they do a musical number which was also going swimmingly until one of the lights burned out with a pop of fire and that scared the monster (or Frederick called him “The Creature” but there is only one Creature in my book) so he freaks out and the people riot right back at him. Our poor monster gets put in a cell again but this time by the townsfolk, Frederick thinks he knows what to do but he needs to get back to the monster so he can help him. In the meantime he sleeps with Inga for stress relief (which I’ll never condone cheating though it does put him in quite the pickle) which ends up giving him more stress because his fiancée comes to visit him that very night. Meanwhile the townsfolk make a good, old-fashioned mob!
Tumblr media
Our monster finds Fredericks fiancée, Elizabeth, singing and whisks her away. At first she is terrified but then they high key make freaky monster love in the woods. Frederick and the gang make another violin trap to lure the monster back to the castle but this time the monster has to climb up a wall to get in? Just open the door for him! Either way he climbs up that wall like Rocky ran up those stairs, it was beautiful. Doc Frederick decides to do a transference with the monster to help give him a calmer brain which works! But the townsfolk bust in just before the procedure is complete! Oh, no! The now articulate monster is able to talk the townsfolk down from their attack but will Frederick be okay? Yes, he will! And he marries Inga! What about Elizabeth? She is happy with the monster! And what did Frederick get from the monster during the transference? That monster D. Simply amazing.

Forty Days of Frankenstein, Day Forty: And here we are, day forty.  Don’t despair, though.  Between tomorrow and Hallowe’en, I’ll be sharing some late-breaking Frankensteins I found just this year (in my neverending Frankenquest) that were too late to make the first round.  Tonight, though, I bring you something extra special.  If you care at all about Frankenstein, you should see this if you ever get a chance.  If you only see one modern Frankenstein interpretation, see this one (hard to believe it’s already 12 years old).  Back in 2011, director Danny Boyle brought Nick Dear’s script for Frankenstein to the Royal National Theatre stage in London.  Starring in it were Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller—but with a twist.  In a mind-bending tour-de-force, the two actors alternated between playing Victor Frankenstein and the Creature!  From time to time this gets a re-release to cinemas, even though it was originally live on stage.  Frustratingly, so far, none of the powers-that-be will release it to home video, so just keep an eye out!

Very interesting the connections that Ketu and Jupiter has with Frankenstein's monsters.
In the upcoming film "Bride" Jessie Buckley will play the Bride of Frankenstein and Christian Bale will play Frankenstein's monster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both are Ketuvian. She's Mula Sun, and he is Ashwini Moon. The film is made by Maggie Gyllenhaal who is a Vishakha Sun.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in (National Theatre Live 2011) "Frankenstein" interchangeably play the Creature (Frankenstein's monster) and Victor Frankenstein. Benedict Cumberbatch is an Punarvasu Sun, Ashwini Moon and Jonny Lee Miller is a Vishakha Sun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The play was literally directed by Ashwini Moon Danny Boyle.
In the film "Lisa Frankenstein", Magha Ascendant Cole Sprouse plays a corpse from the Victorian-era who was resurrected to life (named Creature, commonly being Frankenstein's monster), and his love interest is played by Shatabhisha Moon Kathryn Newton as Lisa Frankenstein. The film is directed by Punarvasu Moon Zelda Williams.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cole Sprouse's character reminds me of Emily the Corpse Bride from the film "Corpse Bride", voiced by Magha Moon Helena Bonham Carter and the movie being made by Magha Sun Tim Burton.
Tumblr media
What I found so interesting was how the internet is intuitively sensitive to Ketu energies as they have connected Laura Harrier to this character in online fan-casting. Laura Harrier is literally an Ashwini Moon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the film "Van Helsing" Frankenstein's monster is now played by a Jupiterian instead of a Ketuvian. Purva Bhadrapada Sun Shuler Hensley.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Purva Bhadrapada Moon Daniel Radcliffe, though he plays Igor, Frankenstein's sickly hunchback assistant, in the film "Victor Frankenstein". And in this film it is Ashwini Sun James McAvoy who played Victor Frankenstein.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Tim Burton's "Frankenweenie" animation movie, it is Mula Moon Charlie Tahan who voices young Victor Frankenstein who resurrects his dog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Purva Bhadrapada Moon Jacob Elordi will be playing Frankenstein in Guillermo Del Toro's retelling of the story, ultimately replacing Purva Bhadrapada Ascendant Andrew Garfield who was up for the role. AND Purva Bhadrapada Sun Oscar Isaac will be playing Victor Frankenstein.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
A couple of years ago, I remember Scarlett Johansson was in talks for a "Bride of Frankenstein" movie, and this was never heard of again. I doubt the project has been finalized or proceeded, considering the fact that it's been four years now. But still noteworthy as she is Vishakha Moon so perfectly fits this post.
Tumblr media
Vishakha Sun Emma Stone stars in the film "Poor Things", based on a book with the same name which is a clever feminist retelling of Mary Shelley's known work.
A film quite aligned with "Poor Things" is actually "Frankenhooker", being that the 'Creature' is a victimized female, starring Punarvasu Sun Patty Mullen who plays a girlfriend accidentally killed by her scientist boyfriend and is resurrected by him with the use of her head and separate body parts of deceased prostitutes.
Tumblr media
This film was literally directed by Magha Sun and Purva Bhadrapada Moon Frank Henenlotter.
Mary Shelley, the creator of the tale of Frankenstein, was a Mula Moon and Ardra Ascendant, a gothic novelist whose work is considered one of the earliest work of science fiction 🖤
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Literally went into more examples about Ketu's connections to transcendence, life, death, resurrection etc.

I've adored all your mouthwashing art, it's been so good! I am curious, do you have any recommendations for other media that you think people would enjoy if they liked that?
Thank you! And oof, what a question haha. I don’t know if i can speak for everyone, and my recommendations might sound counterintuitive, but to me personally, mouthwashing falls into the same category of ‘get your heart wrenched from your body both in and out of character with optional poking of holes in the fourth wall while the game laughs at your misfortune’ as:
Games:
* pathologic (and especially pathologic II, and especially especially pathologic II dlc marble nest) (you don’t need to play P1 in order to play P2)
* inscryption
* the beginner’s guide
* what remains of edith finch
* mind: path to thalamus
* fear and hunger and fear and hunger 2
* outer wilds
* frostpunk
* SOMA
(Night in the woods doesnt really fit in that category, i think, but it’s a game that’s very important to me so I’m listing it as an honorable mention)
Movies:
* repo! the genetic opera
* third star
* GATTACA
* frankenstein but specifically danny boyle’s national theatre version
I’m pretty sure i am forgetting stuff too, but this is what I’ve got off the top of my head! Feel free to check back in if you play/have already played any of these and let me know what you think, or let me know if you have any questions about my reasoning or the specific games/movies or whatever and I’ll do my best to answer <3

🎬 28 Years Later (2025) 28 Years Later isn’t a sequel—it’s a Frankenstein’s monster of half-baked ideas with the coherence of a TikTok slideshow. Visually, it’s a seizure-inducing mess; narratively, a bloated identity crisis. The cast fights valiantly (especially Jodie Comer), but the infected feel like an afterthought, and the ending? A baffling, tone-deaf disaster. Danny Boyle’s lightning is long gone—this is just shards of regret. 🔗 Read the full review on Moviez4U: 👉 https://moviez4u.blog/28-years-later-2025/ ✍️ Written by: Admin

Looking Ahead to 2025
Now that we are almost a month into the new year, I thought this would be a good time to list the films I am most excited about coming to theaters in 2025. So I present the 25 films I am most excited about coming out this year (in alphabetical order):
28 Years Later
Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland are back 23 years later in this follow-up to 2002's 28 Days Later. Whether 2007's 28 Weeks Later remains canon is still a question.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
The Na'vi are back and so will the audience.
Captain America: Brave New World
Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson is Captain America in this new film co-starring Harrison Ford as President Thunderbolt Ross.
F1
Tron: Legacy and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski takes Brad Pitt around the race track in this sports action drama about Formula One racing.
Fountain of Youth
John Krasinski and Natalie Portman are siblings on the hunt for the Fountain of Youth in this heist adventure from director Guy Ritchie.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina
Spinning out of the John Wick films comes this action thriller starring Ana de Armas that takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.
Good Fortune
Comedian Aziz Ansari directed, wrote, and starred in this comedy alongside Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen.
Jurassic World Rebirth
There will always be dinosaurs. Just ask director Gareth Edwards and Jurassic Park co-writer David Koepp about this newest installment starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.
Materialists
Past Lives writer/director Celine Strong returns with a new film starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans.
Mickey 17
Robert Pattinson stars in this new science fiction black comedy from writer/director Bong Joon-ho.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie return to the world of IMF for this eighth film in the acclaimed series.
Opus
Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich star in this A24 thriller coming in March.
Predator: Badlands
Dan Trachtenberg is back with a new Predator movie. And good news! This one will be in theaters.
Sinners
Ryan Coogler writes and directs this original horror film starring Michael B. Jordan (in two roles!) and Hailee Steinfeld.
Superman
James Gunn kicks off his new DC Studios universe with this new film about the last son of Krypton.
The Accountant 2
Christian Wolff is back just a little after tax season for this sequel to the 2016 breakout hit action thriller also starring Ben Affleck and directed by Gavin O'Connor.
The Bride!
From writer/director Maggie Gyllenhaal comes a new monster movie starring Jessie Buckley as the Bride of Frankenstein and Christian Bale as Frankenstein's monster.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Marvel's first family is back on film with their first Marvel Studios film.
The Life of Chuck
From writer/director Mike Flanagan comes this adaptation of a Stephen King novella starring Tom Hiddleston.
The Running Man
Edgar Wright directs Glen Powell in this Stephen King adaptation.
Thunderbolts*
Marvel Studios is gathering a bunch of anti-heroes from previous films and shows together for this team-up.
Tron: Ares
Return the grid with this standalone threequel starring Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Greta Lee.
Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Film
Paul Thomas Anderson has a new film coming this August starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Regina Hall. What the movie is though? No one knows.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Detective Benoit Blanc is back in a new mystery from writer/director Rian Johnson.
Wicked: For Good
Ready for Wicked: Part Two? Well, here it is. Called something else.
Now for a quick look ahead to 2026, my top picks for that year are Avengers: Doomsday, The Mandalorian & Grogu, Project Hail Mary, a fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man film, The Mummy, Supergirl: World of Tomorrow, new films from Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Jordan Peele, JJ Abrams, and Denis Villeneuve and any of the above-mentioned films that get bumped to 2026.
Looking back at the 16 films on my Looking Ahead to 2024 list from last year: I saw 14 either at home or in theaters, one was bumped to 2025, and another lacks a release date that I am hopeful I will see in 2025 and would be at the top of this list if it had a release date. (looking at you Chapter 2).

My 20 Most Anticipated Films of 2025!!
As always, these are a far from definitive, quickly thrown together sampling of films I'm looking forward to. There's definitely a bunch I'm missing, here, but I honestly didn't feel like doing any extensive search. These are just the ones already on the 2025 calendar that stuck out to me when browsing through. One that's not here because there's no release date yet—but stands as probably my most anticipated film of 2025, period—is Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein. Enjoy!
Wolf Man (Leigh Whannel) - 1.17.25 I've been digging the trailers that have been shown before every movie for the past few months, and really dug the approach to The Invisible Man, so hopefully this one delivers.
Presence (Steven Soderbergh) - 1.24.25 No clue what this is about, but Soderbergh is always at the very least interesting. So, yeah...
Companion (Drew Hancock) - 1.31.25 The trailer's been playing a ton, and I am intrigued.
Captain America: Brave New World (Julius Onah) - 2.14.25 Oh, c'mon... have we met?!?
Mickey 17 (Bong Joon-ho) - 3.7.25 Bong Joon-ho + Robert Pattinson + Edward Ashton's book being a blast = This film making my list for the second year in a row.
Black Bag (Steven Soderbergh) - 3.14.25 Another Soderbergh that I know nothing about... ::shrugs::
Sinners (Ryan Coogler) - 4.18.25 Hailee Steinfeld being involved has this on here more than anything else. Coogler's solid, though, even if I'm still not sold on Michael B. Jordan.
Thunderbolts* (Jake Schreier) - 5.2.25 Flo. That's all... just Flo.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (Christopher McQuarrie) - 5.23.25 The last bona fide movie star's last Mission. Can't wait!
The Life of Chuck (Mike Flanagan) - 5.30.25 Flanagan does King... again. I absolutely loved this novella, and I can't wait to see how Flanagan & Crew bring it to life.
Ballerina (Len Wiseman) - 6.6.25 I would've much rather have gotten a Paloma film, but I'll take my badass Ana de Armas anyway I can get her.
28 Years Later (Danny Boyle) - 6.20.25 Meh... I like zombies and Boyle and enjoyed the first two well enough (even if Days is grossly overrated these days).
Superman (James Gunn) - 7.11.25 Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane is more than enough to have me pumped for Gunn's take on Supe, but then there's everything else in that trailer, on top of her. Damn.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Matt Shakman) - 7.25.25 Solid casting, and I'm just really excited to see where their introduction into the MCU takes the MCU as a whole.
Untitled PTA Film (Paul Thomas Anderson) - 8.8.25 I know nothing about this... but it's PTA. So, duh...
The Bride (Maggie Gyllenhaal) - 9.26.25 Ambitious take on a classic and a holy shit cast. Yes, please.
Tron: Ares (Joachim Rønning) - 10.10.25 Loved Tron: Legacy so damn much.
The Running Man (Edgar Wright) - 11.7.25 Wright does King... Hell. F*cking. Yes.
Bugonia (Yorgos Lanthimos) - 11.7.25 More Emma Stone/Yorgos Lanthimos weirdness?!? Gimme, gimme gimme.
Predator: Badlands (Dan Trachtenberg) - 11.7.25 Haaaaave y'all seen Prey?!?
There they are!
As for My Best of 2024, once again all of the major lists will not be getting posted until late-January/early-February, but I’m going to try to get some of the early lists – such as Posters & TV – sorted and posted over the next week or two. Please Feel Free to Follow Along So You Don’t Miss Anything!
Stay Tuned!
