Tumblr's "Following" tab algorithm is utter rubbish! But recently I made some changes to my dashboard settings and it made the world of difference! So I thought I'd share this in case it works for you too.

I just found out that you can actually adjust your dashboard preferences to see everything in chronological order (duh!). The 'best first' algorithmic setting was getting on my nerve. Why would anyone want that? I was rarely checking my Dashboard for that reason. So I'm letting you guys know, just in case any of you isn't aware of it.

Wait have people new to tumblr set their dashboard to reverse-chronological order. I keep forgetting it's optional now

If you're new go to your dashboard settings and turn off "best stuff first". It's been long enough that I can't remember if that's how you do it but that should put it into reverse-chronological

TTDV stands for Through the Desert Vast. It's a new slate series everyone's going bee-brained over... I haven't read it yet because I prefer for a series to be finished before reading, but I've heard good things. Queer rep within the first couple chapters of the first slate-set, a non-traditional setting and cast (a rogue group living in the desert), and complex characters... needless to say I'm excited for when it finishes and I can read it!

In honor of Through the Desert Vast becoming popular, I've decided to make a rock-dye project on all of the main characters. Today's character is... Seafowl!

Unfortunately I don't have the right paints to portray him accurately (I haven't been able to find any white herbs for his patches, but I'm still on the lookout!) but this is mostly accurate to how he is described in the slates.

I was playing a survival video game yesterday while my two oldest niblings looked on in awe (they have very low standards). At one point I was trying to find a corpse to loot and the older child, after watching me fail at this task for a couple of minutes, cried, "You have to find the dead body before it's not dead anymore, Aunt Phoebe!"

"What do you mean, before it's not dead anymore?"

"You have to find it before it gets up!"

I was not, it should be noted, playing a game involving zombies. But I will no longer be exploring the map in the dark. Just to be safe.

Tumblr Userstyle: I’ll Be There for You. // Download.

This is a simple, yet elegant recoloring of the dashboard. It is heavily inspired by the Black Dashboard once offered by Tumblr back in 2010 to raise awareness for the BP oil spill, but edited to work for the current dashboard as we know it in 2025, with some personal little refinements to spacing to make it feel a little more breathable, and less 'loud'. It is fully optimized (and tested) for both the 'True Blue' color schemes, and 'Dark Mode'.

After navigating to the download page and installing it, it should automatically update your dashboard (you should do a restart if it does not), so all I can say is enjoy!

Recent updates:

Returned the font to 'Helvetica', Tumblr's former (old) font, instead of the new 'Favorit'.

Made the dashboard icons square again instead of round.

Got a little tired of the numerous different 'rounded corners', so I took the liberty of turning everything pointed for the sake of easy consistency.

If you notice something wrong, or missing:

Before notifying me, I kindly ask you to first return to the download page, and hit 'Reinstall' (it'll ask you whether you'd like to overwrite the current style, simply select yes) or 'Update' (whichever option pops up for you), to see whether I've already ran an update that fixes it. If not, don't hesitate to contact me, and I'll look at it ASAP! But I personally also use this style, so chances are that I may have caught it already.

Wow... Tumblr has a dash option that puts "best stuff first" rather than letting your dash be chronological??? I'm pretty new to Tumblr so I thought my dash was just glitching by not showing me all my posts in sensible order. But my dash was actively sabotaged by the Tumblr gremlins?!?!?? I just fixed my preferences. (settings -> account settings -> dashboard preferences) I've missing people's posts because of this. Death to algorithms!!!
