what’s an essay or poem you think everyone should read at least once in their life
i’m compiling recs for my dad and im just curious. it can be as personal or universal as u want, & honestly any format’s okay; my rec at the moment is “all my pretty ones” by anne sexton (poem) and “Ask Polly: Help, I’m The Loneliest Person In The World!” (advice column/essay)

i need to practice/learn excel so i gathered data about phyuri on ao3, here are my graphs. as you can see there is a significant increase in f/f fanfiction under the phandom tag in this past year
Tumblr media Tumblr media
my data collection methods were not super good because this was more about me using excel so take this with a grain of salt
Tumblr media Tumblr media
heres my data if anyone wants it, i know its a bit off because the totals are both slightly more than the fic totals on ao3. i basically manually counted the fics, when i was doing the f/f i got a bit confused because of publication dates on fics that were updated more recently being between much older fics and i counted them by the date they showed. with the m/m i counted the page numbers and x20 so it is more imprecise and also is more by publication than finished date.

I’ve recently been confronted with how differently everyone approach stories. This made me curious. So guys, I’m counting on you for data, we need to reblog.

You don't need to dox yourself, but it would help if you could add to the tags where you live within your timezone. For example, I'm on the eastern edge of my zone, so my sunrise/sunset is earlier relative to those further west in my timezone, which is most people.

The most absurd thing about all this bullshit is that all my data is going towards selling me things I don't want or I can't buy. Tech companies have built the world's most sophisticated and complex surveillance system, effectively trapping billions of people into a panopticon and consuming wasteful amounts of resources, technology and human work and talent, all just to sell ads. It's incredibly absurd.

on the subject of individual actions, they do matter, which is why men flip out when the measured birth rate stagnates/doesn’t increase or drops. they worry and they get upset and they cry and they scream and they publish articles about how men are in a crisis and it’s all our fault because we are making selfish individual choices that don’t benefit their collective. it adds up. you may not think your individual impact is much, but men as a group, especially men in high places, usually pay a whole lot more attention to the individual choices of women than you might think. and they react. that’s all i’m saying

RIP Severus Snape, i just know your ass would love/hate research subjects based on the teacher, but you'd at least nail the defense part
and it'll fill you with nothing but glee if you had to be a panelist for your own students one day
