It was your best friend, Maya who had decided to sign you up for a show called 'The Island'. At first you didn't really want to enter but after some days of thinking it over, you thought you might as well, it's a once in a lifetime experience.

As the time to fly over to the retreat got closer, the more nervous you got. What if you weren't hot enough for this? What if people didn't like you?

Maya grabbed your shoulders as you looked in the mirror. "You're gonna kill it on this show, I know it."

The time has come for you to meet some of the other people on 'The Island'. The photo shoot beforehand has purple lights all around the room and multiple sets. The bikini you were wearing was scandalous but also casual. It was a light pink and crossed over at the back. The heels you paired with it were white with a chunky heel, and the thick straps on the front were tied and covered the middle of your foot.

After a couple of photos were snapped of you, you needed to sit down in front of the camera and say why you were excited to be on the show and give a little information about yourself.

"Okay, so I feel like I'm just a little devil," you laughed.

The cameraman started to ask you questions. "What's your usual type?"

"I like a man who is open about himself and I can easily talk to but looks are also a big competitor. If you have nice hair and are tall, I will literally be on my knees in seconds," you answer, letting out a small chuckle at yourself again.

"What are you here for?"

You think for a second before answering. "I'm here to have a blast and I'd like to form a connection but if nothing comes out of this then I won't be too mad."

"As long as I get to have some fun."

Little does y/n know, that is NOT going to happen.

You are the first girl to step into the villa, you notice there is nobody else and decide to pour yourself a glass of champagne. It would be rude not to.

After a minute or so, you see two girls walking up the stairs and they look gorgeous as ever.

"Okay! I see you," you say to them, getting a laugh in response.

After a few jokes you exchange hugs and they tell you their names.

"I'm Georgia," she says, a strong British accent on her tongue.

"Hailey, nice to meet you," the other girl says, her American accent coming through.

Around thirty minutes pass and almost everyone is here. You count through the people and realise there is still one more guy to make a show.

Almost like you summoned him with your mind, the most attractive man you've ever seen in your life starts coming towards the group.

"Hello everyone!" He says, his voice playing tricks with your mind.

One of the girls, Nalia, turns to you and whispers "He's a Greek God" into your ear.

"I know right, I want a piece of that," you whisper back.

"I'm Hyunjin."

You thought you were going to pass out right then and there. He was so fucking attractive you couldn't help yourself.

"Do you want some champagne?" You ask him, holding the final empty glass in your hand.

"Only if you're the one pouring it," he responds, a warm blush slowly rising to your face.

"Of course."

After the first meeting talks, you all went off to do your own thing and talk to the people you were attracted to.

As every girl with eyes would, you went over to try and talk to Hyunjin but you saw that Nalia had beaten you to it. Next time, you thought.

"Y/n, right?" A voice behind you says, breaking you from your trance.

"Yeah. You're Joey?"

"Yes, I am," he chuckles. "Do you mind if I talk to you for a little bit?"

"Sure, what's up?" You say, sitting on the steps on the fool with him.

"So, when I stepped in and saw you I thought you were so beautiful and I just love the look of you right now," Joey says, smirking at you and looking up and down.

"Aww, thank you. I think you're pretty cute, you know?" You say, making eye contact with him.

"Yeah," he smiles, biting his bottom lip.

Damn, he was pretty.

"Yeah."

"What did you notice first about me?" You ask him.

"I noticed your lips, they just look so full and I just want to kiss them," he answers.

"You do?"

"I really do."

You look up at him from your lap. "What are you waiting for, then?"

With a small chuckle, he leans in and glides his thumb across your bottom lip before connected his to yours. His hand drops to your waist and your arm goes around his neck. Your lips clash and he slides his tongue on your bottom lip but you pull away before any of that can happen.

"You really are something else," Joey says, looking at you in the most seductive way he could.

"And you," you say, fluttering your eyelids at him. "But I'm going to get get myself a drink."

"Okay, I'll make sure to look out for you," he flirts.

"Yeah, you too," you say, chuckling.

On your way to the bar, you see Hyunjin standing alone, a glass of some form of alcohol in his hand.

"Hey," you say, coming up behind him.

"God, you scared me there for a minute," he laughs, making you do the same.

"God, his laugh is infectious. I just wanna eat him up and put him in my bed forever."

"How are you? This is the first time we've properly spoken."

Strong start y/n, strong start. Now just keep this going.

"Yeah it is," he replies. "You were actually the first girl I saw when I walked into this place."

"Really?" You ask.

"Yeah, you were. I just thought you were the most beautiful girl I've ever seen."

Holy fuck, he's so good at this.

"Aw, thank you," you say, trying to work up the courage to compliment this masterpiece of a man back. "When I saw you I was like 'wow'."

"Yeah?" He asks, tilting his head a little and smiling.

"Yeah," you say, biting your bottom lip and looking back at him.

"Am I your type?" He asks, keeping eye contact with you.

"On paper," you reply. "Everything about you just screams to me."

"Well obviously I want to get to know some of the other girls before I make a decision," he says.

Ouch.

"But-"

This is sounding better, there's a but.

"They definitely have some competition with you being in the game."

"As they should," you joke, flipping your hair over your shoulder.

Hyunjin laughs at this and oh my God, you could just listen to that laugh for the rest of your life.

"Ill speak to you in a bit, yeah?" Hyunjin says, helping you stand up from the stool you'd sat yourself on beside him.

"Yeah, sure," you smile, pecking him on the cheek before parting ways.

"No bitch is gonna get in my way. Especially when it comes down to Hyunjin."

The hours ticked by and the time to reveal that you were actually on 'Too Hot To Handle' was edging nearer. You not knowing this meant you thought you could take your time and really play with the boy's hearts before pouncing on the one you wanted.

That was clearly not going to happen when Lana came into the picture.

In the bedroom, you and one of the girls, Layla, were discussing who you thought was attractive.

"I think James is absolutely lush," she says, her strong southern accent coming through.

"He is quite hot to be fair," you laugh. "But I think Hyunjin is the most amazing looking man I've ever seen in my life."

"Don't even get me started. His hair! Oh my God."

You agreed with her and continued to talk about his features and what you could gather his attributes were.

"I'm routing for you, girl," Layla says, giving you a small hug.

"Me too."

You were now an hour away from the reveal and the host, Mario, called you all down to the cabana.

"Hey, Mario!" Leo, one of the guys, happily shouted over to him.

"Hello guys! How are we feeling about the show so far?"

Everyone cheers in response to his question.

"Good, good. In a few minutes I will let you guys go up into the bedroom and see what we have for you in there. Meet me at the double entrance in 20 minutes."

And with that he leaves.

"What was that all about?" James asks, everyone shrugging and continuing to ask questions.

The walk up to the bedrooms was confusing. What were you doing? Why did you have to meet at the entrance? What is going on?

"So, I've gathered you all here to take you somewhere very special," Mario says, his signature grin on his face.

"Mario what is going on? Why are we dressed like we're about to go skydiving?" Hailey asks, keeping her hand placed firmly on her hip.

"You'll have to find out for yourselves," he says. " Now pair up and get in your cars."

You look over to Hyunjin and you're surprised to see he's already looking your way. He beckons you over with his hand and then proceeds to put his arm around your shoulders.

"You're coming with me," he says.

"Oh, am I now?"

"You have no choice," he chuckles. "Don't act like you don't like it."

You giggle at his words before he helps you into the backseat, closing the door behind you and walking over to his side and getting in.

The ride to wherever the hell you were going was more than pleasant.

"What do you think we're doing?" You ask him.

"I don't know. Hailey was right, though, we do look like we're about to go skydiving."

You close your eyes at the thought. " If we go skydiving I will cry so hard."

He laughs a little.

"You think I'm joking, I'm not."

"I'll protect you, don't worry y/n," he grins.

You smile up at him, the middle seat gap getting in the way of you and him. He was so irresistible even in the most ridiculous outfit you've ever seen.

"You're really pretty, Hyunjin," you say, locking eyes with him for what felt like the millionth time.

"So are you, y/n."

God how much you wanted to kiss him in this car. You couldn't do that. That's mean on the driver.

"when we get back to that villa, I'm going to kiss you so hard," he says, his thoughts matching yours perfectly.

"Deal," you say, linking pinkies with him and kissing your thumb, him doing the same.

"Deal."

"Hello, guys!" Mario says, the same smile on his face.

"Hey, Mario, you beautiful man," Kai says, making us all laugh.

You were finding it a little hard to focus, especially with Hyunjin's arm around your waist. God damn this fucking poncho looking ass thing.

"Joining us for our little adventure is a world-famous sports legend. They specialise in many things but they have extreme expertise. Say hello to our special guest," he says, the smile on his face slowly turning into something more complicated.

"I hope it's Neymar," Georgia says.

"Why?" James asks.

"He's fit as fuck, that's why."

She's not wrong. He is really fit.

A large black car with fully blacked-out windows pulls up in front of you, the tension in the air builds as everyone tries to see who could possibly be in the car.

The sunroof begins to pull back and smoke starts to float out of the top.

"What the hell is going on, I'm seeing smoke come out of a Range Rover."

The longer the suspense builds, the more impatient you get. Finally, something starts to rise through the smoke. It almost looks like a small cone.

Wait.

Don't tell me.

Everyone goes silent.

The cone chimes.

"For fuck sake," you shout, everyone thinking the same thing. "We're on Too Hot To fucking Handle!"

Hyunjin doesn't know how to react so he just yells in shock and pulls you into his side.

"Fuck."

Is Love Really Blind?

The famous Netflix series Love Is Blind has come back with a new season and it keeps proving itself wrong.

Love Is Blind is a dating show different from any other, in fact, you are supposed to create a deep connection with someone without the ability to see them, at least until you decide to marry that person. What happens after the capsules shows exactly how difficult it is to be with a person you could only fantasize about, in past seasons many had their difficulties associating the person they had before them with the voice that connected with them at a deeper level.

But is love really blind?

I personally love the concept and the idea behind it, loving a person not because of their looks, whether they’re considered beautiful or not socially speaking, but because of who they really are. In an ideal world, everyone is attracted to others because of their personality rather than looks, but unfortunately, humans don’t work that way and this show is the primary example.

There have been many participants in the past who have asked others about their bodies but this new season has set a new record with so many people going against the program’s whole philosophy.

From comments on the color of their skin to admitting to plastic surgery, it seemed like no one even tried to follow the experiment’s ideals.

The main example is Clay, he’s been very honest yet hypocritical. He asks AD about her physical appearance and when she replies confused, he admits that he, for once, had to be sure that he was going to be attracted to her physically to be able to propose to her. I’m not going to argue with his ideal but I don’t understand why he thought that participating in a show where you specifically have to propose to someone without seeing them first was a good idea.

Many of them, in fact, asked each other questions about their appearance, some of them were innocent and others were more serious, but Clay stood out because of how direct he was on the matter. It just goes to show that love is never really blind, surely there are cases in which the couples found themselves both emotionally through the capsule and physically once they were out, but that’s just a few of them.

I feel like the show should try to stop the participants from asking that kind of question and give them a penalty or something to better showcase their theory.

Another person that really stood out to me was Chelsea. She knew she was in competition with another woman for the same man and so she dropped the bomb “Sometimes they say I look like a celebrity, like that one, MGK’s girlfriend or wife” and, Jesus, the dude’s face as he realized that she was talking about Megan Fox, at that point he had associated the actress with her. She tried to make it sound so casual but it was obvious that she wanted him to know that information to make sure he would’ve been attracted to her more, I personally cringed a bit and thought it was a bit too much considering what show they’re taking part in.

That being said, their physical appearance indeed does change how they treat each other once they’re outside of the capsules, while for some people it worked out pretty well and they liked each other, there were a few couples that clearly did not have the same privilege.

Falling in love without seeing each other and without caring about the other’s aspect can indeed happen but most of the time love is not only an emotional connection but also a physical one, everyone has their own taste and can like whatever they prefer. It’s difficult to love someone if you don’t like them 100%, that being their appearance, personality, thoughts, qualities and flaws. I really enjoy being able to see how these people connect with each other without being able to see or touch one another, it’s refreshing and, in some ways, comforting. But the magic stops once they can meet up, after that Love Is Blind is just another superficial dating show filled with drama and behind scenes moments that are not shared with the public and, from what I’ve heard, they’ve not treated the participants with respect.

Then, they get to choose whether they want a vacation with the person they’ve been dating or take a cash prize instead
