Perfectionism in "American Psycho"

"American Psycho," both the novel by Bret Easton Ellis and the film adaptation, explores the concept of perfectionism in a dark and satirical manner. highlights a deeper meaning.

Perfectionism in "American Psycho" takes on a distorted and extreme form. driven by a twisted desire for validation and superiority. He constantly compares himself to others, obsesses over little details, and has a complete lack of empathy. This sense of perfectionism reflects a society where individuals are more concerned with appearances, social status, and consumption rather than genuine personal growth or meaningful connections.

As the story goes on, Bateman gets more and more frustrated because he realizes he can never be truly perfect. This makes him do even crazier and violent things. The story is actually criticizing a society where people care too much about looking good and having things, rather than caring about real feelings and connections with others.

In simpler words, "American Psycho" is about how wanting to be perfect in a fake way can lead to really bad things, and how it's better to care about real things like being a good person and having real relationships.

yes, doctors suck, but also "the medical ethics and patient interaction training doctors receive reinforces ableism" and "the hyper competitive medical school application process roots out the poor, the disabled, and those who would diversify the field" and "anti-establishment sentiment gets applications rejected and promotions requests denied, weeding out the doctors on our side" and "the gruesome nature of the job and the complete lack of mental health support for medical practitioners breeds apathy towards patients" and "insurance companies often define treatment solely on a cost-analysis basis" and "doctors take on such overwhelming student loan debt they have no choice but to pursue high paying jobs at the expense of their morals" are all also true

none of this absolves doctors of the truly horrendous things they say and do to patients, but it's important to acknowledge that rather than every doctor being coincidentally a bad person, there is something specific about this field and career path that gives rise to such high prevalence of ableist attitudes

If you don't think Paul would be a difficult person to know irl you're a fake fan and don't deserve him. i don’t think we talk enough about declan being equally as down bad and ‘all or nothing’ with romance as ronan is. like yes ronan said he would start wars and burn cities for adam’s true smile, begged god for adam after he first saw him and fortuitously had all his objects of worship were in one downtown block etc but ronan had known adam atleast 18 months at this stage. whereas declan really risked it all to get tyrian purple overnight for a first date gift after ONE conversation…the man was discussing their marriage as a ‘when’ not an ‘if’ before we even saw them kiss like what’s his excuse lmaoo
