intro post: about my stance

this blog exists because the online conversation around dissociative disorders has warped itself into an odd, nigh impenetrable kind of echo chamber.

so many people out there are faking DID since the 2020 peak, and it's disheartening. the trend encourages impressionable young people to pathologize normal experiences. to mimic debilitating symptoms for attention, aesthetic, or belonging. so, so few of the people who claim to have alter-based disorders--even to be diagnosed--clearly don't understand the reality of those disorders, let alone truly have them.

in short, this is what i believe:

DID is a severe childhood trauma disorder, not an identity.

the vast majority of people claiming to have it online do not. it has become a way to roleplay popular characters.

sufferers are not "systems" of multiple people--they're one person, split into parts. they should be treated as such.

language matters. in real cases, calling dissociated self-states "system members", "headmates", etc. only feeds into the delusion of plurality.

on that note, plurality is a delusion. a trauma-induced one, but a delusion nonetheless. it should be understood this way.

recovery through final fusion is a reasonable, valid, and worthwhile goal.

no, this isn't "ableist". no, i won't be taking your advice to "listen to real systems", because chances are? you aren't one.

Little reminder from an Outed system:

You do not have to tell everyone you're a system or about your disorders/disabilities.

Even from a very open system (us) we are very open about what we have, what we are, and the troubles that surface from such.

People will still paint you as a monster or ridicule you and try to beat you down further. People are stupid and humanity is failing.

You do not have to try to prove yourself right or prove yourself at all if you see the battle is unfair. That does not make you weak, and it doesn't make you what they say you are.

If you know you aren't, thats all you need.

It is kind of funny how our dissociative disorder can mean all of these things:

- a Homestuck character studying art history.

- Crying on the toilet two minutes before the aforementioned Homestuck character.

- Not remembering basic information from an hour ago.

- Remembering a random incident from our childhood seemingly not connected to anything, but being able to recall it only on specific days.

- A four-year old child falling asleep in college dormrooms.

- A dog in public transport.

- Dissociation spiking up the ADHD issues.

- Being blessed that we don't remember the memes and inside jokes we found annoying, so we don't get the reference three weeks after.

- Forgetting that we have a family that we need to text.

- Not being able to escape the shadow of our mother looming in our mind.

- Never being truly alone, and yet feeling lonely most of the time.

- Randomly waking up as your 16-year old self and being confused why your hair isn't long and why is it not 2017 anymore.

- Gender dysphoria being a really convoluted concept with cis men, various nonbinary creatures, transfems and transmasc sharing one body.

Welcome welcome to Dee Haus!! Our DID-focused art blog! (A guide by Sibbin :))

Terms: (familiar term in quotations)

Haus: a black DID “system”

Famori: “alters” in de haus

Cooking/being in the kitchen: “fronting”

The term haus being used specifically for Black systems is not at all a thing, I’ont think. But our haus uses it for us, and as a system who is Black in de bodi and loves our kulcha and words, we would love to see it be claimed as that and invite any black-bodied system to do so!! We chose it because a lot of Black households use the term “house” instead of home I noticed, and then as we learned more about hoodoo and vodou, it turns out historic Black folk magic gatherings for protection were often in AAVE called the “haus” dey was under (like Marie Lavaeu haus) So if Haus is a place of protection and healing, what better a name for our system :) ((also: I'm not tryna limit haus' usage as a word only fa us since I know it exists in other languages too. But I long for our black community to have more words for us neurodivergent folx in it!))

Famori is combining two different words: family and ori, which is the Yoruban word for head, so head family! Not all systems are related to all their alters— but in Black families we tend to just call anyone we care about family, so I thought it’d work well.

We just call fronting cooking for some reason. Dass juss how our headspace came prepackaged, I guess? I think it’s because we often cook for the people we’re looking out for? I dunno, I think it’s cute.

Our names are also a mix of blaccent as well as Gullah Geechee english :) Sibbin is sibling, Bubba is brother, and Cuzzin is cousin. We aren’t all related like that and those aren’t our real names, but fa de blog dey cute.
