Disability Swag Summit 2!!

The Swag Summit is back!

Now with some improvements.

I’ve added different categories to display and represent a wider array of characters and disabilities throughout the competition.

Also, since my goal is representation, you can submit any character with disabilities as major or “minor” as you want.

Also, head canons and coding are allowed, just mark them as such in the form.

The categories go as follows:

Motor

Here go characters with movement disabilities, like paralysis, missing a limb, or not being able to coordinate your body. Here go people with club foot, Parkinson’s, flat feet, dyspraxia, tic related disabilities, cerebral palsy, paraplegia, amputees, mobility aid users, etc.

Visceral

Here go characters with disabilities related to their internal organs, endocrine system, immune system, amongst other systems inside of your body. Disabilities in this category may include asthma, autoimmune disorders, allergies, chronic pain, diabetes, PCOS, fibromyalgia, IBS, skin conditions, amongst others.

Sensory

Here go characters with disabilities related to their senses, be it sight (blindness, colour blindness, cataracts, astigmatism, photosensitivity, etc), touch/pain (CIPA, Hyposthesia, Dysesthesia, etc.), hearing (deafness, being hard of hearing, etc), smell (anosmia, phantosmia, etc), taste (Ageusia, Hypogeusia, etc) or a combination of different senses (like synesthesia).

Speech

Pretty straight forward, disabilities related to speech, be it selective mutism, speech impediments, full on mutism or other speech related disabilities.

Physical differences

Catch all term for people who were born or developed some sort of physical difference. Idk if it counts as a disability, but we’re looking to represent as many people as possible here so. Here go people who are missing limbs, visible organs or pretty much any body part, people who use prosthetics, people with extra body parts (that are actually not normally supposed to be there, don’t fill this category with bug people and aliens) people with deformities, scars, conjoined twins, little people, people with gigantism, etc.

Neurodivergent

Since different types of Neurodivergencies overlap so much, I feel like separating them would make my job 10 times more difficult, so I decided to lump together Cognitive, Info-processing, Psycosocial, Learning, and other mental disabilities. Here go characters with Autism, Dementia, DID, Schizophrenia, brain damage, PTSD, OCD, Tourette’s, dyslexia, etc.

Other

Those who do not fit under other categories, be it because I forgot, because it’s not really categorizable or because it’s a fantasy disability (if the fantasy disability is close enough to one of the other categories, put it there too for good measure).

And finally

Rules!

1- No real people. Live action characters are fine, but I feel kinda uncomfortable putting actual real living (or historical) human beings here. Maybe you can submit a disabled real animal if you want, but no people.

2- Preferably positive or neutral representation, please. As in, I rather not see blatantly ableist media represented here, there’s better representation out there, but if you really have to, I guess do whatever you want.

3- Be civil. This is for fun and not to be taken seriously. If you manage to spark drama or harassment out of this silly and fun competition, you are going to the dungeon.

4- Don’t make submissions in the asks. The asks are for questions and propaganda, make your submissions in the form.

5- Propaganda is allowed and highly encouraged! Either share it in the asks, at @eddies-disability-swag-blog or tag it as #disability swag summit

6- Should go without saying, but, like, bigotry is cringe, so, like, don’t do it?

HAPPY DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH!!! ❤️💛🤍💙💚

Seeing as so many people loved the pride piece, I felt like doing another big piece, this time for disability pride month because it and the folks it represents deserves so much more attention and respect.

Like with the pride piece, I feel monster high,whilst a bit better with including disabled and neurodivergent representation (especially in G3) more can definitely be done that i intend to do. For example as a rule of character design many of the undead characters (particularly the zombies and mummies) need mobility aids due to decaying muscle and connective tissue or simply including more ND characters (I do love G3 twyla but as an autistic woman myself I just wish she wasn't the only one yknow), anyways I hope you like this piece because its taken a lot of effort to complete,all likes,comments and what have you are very much appreciated and see you for some more art soon.

List of specific disabilities and the like are as follows:

Ghoulia is autistic and uses an ambulatory wheelchair, as well as this they use American sign language among other means to communicate with others due to difficulties verbally communicating.

Sloman has Amblyopia (lazy eye) uses a mobility cane and like ghoulia and many other zombies he uses ASL.

Cleo requires a cane.

Twyla is Autistic and selectively mute.

Meowlody has Adhd.

Operetta is blind/deaf in her right eye and ear, and has episodes of disorientation and dizziness due to a malformed cochlea.

Frankie is Autistic,as well as having an artificial right leg and knee they use crutches as an ambulatory aid.

Jackson and Holt are Audhd and is a Co-consciousness system (ie. One can hear the other when they are in control and vice versa).

Something I've noticed since I've gotten my diagnosis for fibromyalgia and mobility aids (I noticed it before but its more noticeable to me now that I am more visibility disabled, even though Ive always had noticable disability) is that in first world countries, people are less likely to actually give someone who the "priority seating" is for the seats. Usually people who should 100% be sitting will give up the seats for me which makes me feel bad but I appreciate it.

In the country my family is from (Colombia) people give the people who need seats no matter what, even if there are other seats for us to sit in. People also dont use things made for disabled people there, unlike in first world countries.

In my school, the elevator is for disabled people only but able bodied people go on it to skip class or to not use the stairs. I understand that stairs suck but the elevator just isnt for them, there have been people who started to mock the disabled people in the elevator, some who have called us cr*pple, and adults telling the actual disabled people to get off instead of the able bodied people who arent even allowed on it.

People act like being disabled makes life easier because people will "give you things" but people don't. People take advantage of whats for us and then berate us for telling them they can't use the things or to let us have what is for us. We are not assholes because we are disabled, we are mad at able bodied people taking advantage of whats ours and acting like we don't exist. Let us have our equitity.

The Complex Dissociative Disorder Swag Bracket

A series of polls to determine who has the most Complex Dissociative Disorder swag

Complex Dissociative Disorder refers to dissociative disorders that are characterized by the presence major Identity alterations resulting in the presence of a system. It is used as a catch all for DID, OSDD-1, P-DID, and some presentations of U(S)DD.

You may ask "why specifically CDDs?"

Our answer is we like disability headcanons. If this was a system swag bracket, many of the character submission would be supernatural multiples(e.g. possession). Rather than disability headcanons or characters that have a CDD in canon.

Character Submission

Submission rules (submissions are closed for now)

-They have to be a character. So no celebrities, friends, some guy from down the street, ETC.

-Both characters that have a CDD in canon, and headcanons are allowed -The character does not have to be good representation

-You may submit as many characters as you would like. However if you are not submitting multiple character as being part of the same system, they must be submitted separately.

-If you want to submit characters as being part of the same system they have to be from the same media. Sorry.

-Some degree of supernatural nature of experiences is fine. Particularly if it's considered very normal for the world the character is from.

-Submitting your own OCs is not allowed. You can submit characters are not well-known, but they cannot be made by you.

-Please give actual reasons for why you think the character has a CDD in the explanation section. So no "I don't know just vibes" or "because they are in our system" or anything like that can't be your only reason.

-You do not need to have a CDD yourself to submit a character.

No but like fr hate crimes md is such a fucked up show as you get deeper into it bc yes yes house is an absolute bastard and we're told he wasn't much different prior to his leg infarction minus the pain and drug addiction. But then we find out that okay, his baseline pre-infarction self survived abuse from his father. So, not to take responsibility for his actions off his shoulders but that's some pretty major context!

And there's an element of idk. Wish fulfillment(?) for the viewer in that house is the specialest smart boy so he's allowed to say and do whatever he wants. But then literally everyone around him who is supposed to be at least some sort of friend treats him like absolute crap and is super ableist towards him and very dismissive of the fact that he is disabled and in pain. Like truly truly watching this show is just jawdropping at points bc jfc with friends like these, who needs enemies? And it also makes me wonder what the writers were going for bc house is simultaneously wish fulfillment (don't you wish you were so special your actions didn't experience consequences?) but also it feels like at all times the writers are trying to take him down a peg.

I'm not saying he should be coddled by friends or made more palatable as a character but the writers are showing their hands as being deeply ableist while writing a show with a disabled main character.

Hopefully this makes sense... Just. As someone who spent months using a cane and years in severe pain (health issues since resolved), this show hits a bit close to home sometimes.
