My Disney Princess Ranking because I can:
1. Merida: A newly appointed favorite. I think she acts over the top at times, but I love how her true braveness resides in admitting she was wrong in how she treated her mother, and not in the way she faces danger. I also love her looks and her archery skills.
2. Moana: I always loved Polynesian culture, so Moana was an instant favorite for me. Hopefully, the upcoming sequel doesn’t destroy it. (Fearing a repetition of Frozen 2). I love her hair and her looks in general.
3. Ariel: She used to be my childhood favorite and the one I identified with, but my love for her has been progressively fading over the years, and now I think of her with a bittersweet feeling. The truth is that I’m tired of people claiming she left her world for a man, but at the same time, this perception of her has tainted my own. On a side note, I don’t like her distinctive color scheme (teal and purple).
4. Anna: Frozen 1 Anna would be in second place to me, I loved her ingenuity and sweetness; alas, Frozen 2 took that away from her. Plus I don’t like how she became queen. She incarnated the qualities of the Fifth Spirit way more than Elsa!
5. Cinderella: A memento of my childhood, and the princess I get compared to the most.
6. Pocahontas: We always love a sassy princess. Plus her movie is artistically beautiful, and her true love interest, John Rolfe, is cute as heck (yes I like the sequel too!)
7. Rapunzel: I think I like her movie more than the character itself. Didn’t appreciate her evolution in Tangled The Series.
8. Mulan: Like Cinderella, a memento of my childhood.
9. Snow White: Underestimated, IMO. Plus, I like her historical significance as the very first Disney Princess. I love the actress who will portray her in live action form, I think she incarnates her spirit perfectly.
10. Asha: Love her aesthetically. I don’t like it when she acts adorkable at all costs, LOVE the determined side of her. If only she was a little more mature…
11. Raya: Gets overlooked, but she is pretty cool, and her movie is too.
12. Tiana: Pretty much indifferent to her, but I do like the message she is meant to convey. I put her in this position because there are princesses I like more.
13. Jasmine: See above, minus the message. Being strong, fierce and independent is her entire personality, which I don’t like.
14. Aurora: She has no personality IMO, but at least she is pretty.
15. Belle: For someone who doesn’t judge people based on their looks, she is way too judgmental for my tastes. Just look at how she treated the poor villagers just because they weren’t as cultured as her. It wasn’t their fault they were born in a narrow minded community.
16. Elsa: I used to love Frozen 1 Elsa, but as more Frozen installments came out, my love for her diminished progressively, until it was destroyed completely by Frozen 2 and the way she shamelessly abandoned Anna. Worst character development ever.

I don’t really care about Disney Princess movies because y’know, I’m almost 25, but it does make me sad that they just don’t seem to do villains anymore. Like, at all. The last good disney Princess villain was from like 2009. It makes me sad because as a young queer goth kid I loved the villains, i literally only watched the movies to see the villains. Disney villains used to slap and then they just. Stoped. Who are the weird little emo kids supposed to look up to now? The dude from Frozen who was just sort of an asshole? The lava monster from Moana who turned out to be the good guy?
Why did fun villains go out of style anyway? I would argue that some of the older bad guys are more iconic than the protagonists. Does anyone remember the plot of Sleeping Beauty or do you just remember Maleficent slaying absolute cunt? Because that’s all I remember. I had a plush Maleficent dragon. Where are the dragons now

My relationship w/ Disney princess movies is the same as my relationship w/ Shakespeare plays: I haven’t seen/ read most of them, but they’re so firmly in the zeitgeist that I have a pretty good idea of the plots and characters
