Topical How to Train Your Dragon Quote of the Day: “It curls around my arm, it’s shining wings folded back, as if to unfurl and take off, and now that its ruby eyes are set into the gold, you cannot see their tear shape, so they seem to be laughing rather than crying.
“It is a constant reminder to me of the human ability to create something beautiful even when things are at their darkest.
“I have worn that bracelet every day of my life.” - Cressida Cowell, How to Twist a Dragon’s Tale

Plant of the Day
Sunday 19 January 2025
The cut stems of Cornus (dogwood) and Salix (willow) cultivars are used to make decorative containers for a winter display. The wavy stems of Salix matsudana ‘Tortuosa’ (dragon’s claw willow, Peking willow, wiggerly willow) make a dramatic arrangement and are surrounded by a planting of Acorus gramineus 'Variegatus' (variegated slender sweet flag).

2 Tone Tuesday #6
hi~ today i'm bringing you Mirror In The Bathroom by The Beat (or The English Beat)
this is another one of the big bands that released 2Tone music during those few 2Tone years. their sound mixes 2tone with a "beat" of New Wave and Reggae Rock.
Tumblr media
ok, now to what i wanted to talk about. you see that iconic ska Rude Girl silhouette? it's based on a photography of trans ska singer Brigitte Bond dancing with Jamaican musician Prince Buster:
Tumblr media
and guess what. there's a 30 minute documentary on youtube about her.
youtube
from the video description:
The Beat Girl has been representative of ska, ska subculture, and women in ska since 1979, but little has been known about the real woman who inspired the icon....until now. This never-before-told story will take you back in time to 1964 and introduce you to the world of movers and shakers, musicians and mods, ska and strip clubs...and The Fabulous Brigitte Bond. Brigitte Bond / Brigitte Saint John / Brigitte St. John was the earliest known transgender ska musician and was also the woman who inspired the iconic "Beat Girl" logo for 2-Tone band The Beat.
ok let's do another song by them more in line with the 2Tone sound but without a music video

If you ever see any of the below burning red flags in a fan space, run:
it has self-proclaimed “fandom elders”
it has a popular & pervasive creator who keeps a “burn book”-esque master-doc record of others within the fan space
it includes an informal “spy network” of groupies who keep tabs on fans who’ve blocked a very popular fan/creator
racism— if a fan space isn’t safe for black and brown fans, it’s safe for no one
a significant number of fans who have a parasocial relationship with any member of the cast or crew from a project-> including insisting they (or family) work on the project, they’re an “insider,” they somehow have real-life access to the cast or crew, or an over-analysis of the cast & crew’s social media habits that borders on (mh… no, is) conspiracy.
should go without saying, but: death threats to and stalking members of the cast or crew of a project-> 15/10 chance that they also do this to other fans

Your opinion on why DT got that tattoo?
Hello, Anon. Well, I think that people get tattoos for a lot of different reasons, but sometimes it's not always for the reason you think. I think that if it makes David happy and he likes it, that's great. It was also a bit surprising to me, however, as David has reportedly said in past interviews that he hates needles and would never get a tattoo (in contrast to Michael, who has talked at length about wanting tattoos).
And I also think that when people start suddenly doing things that seem wildly out of character, it is usually for a reason. Even if we don't yet know (or may never know) what that reason is. But...

A few students at graduation today (not from my husband’s program) hid big 🇵🇸 flags in their gowns and unfurled them as they walked across the stage, with this triumphant look on their faces like they thought they were actually making a difference in the world by oh-so-edgily breaking the event rules. 🙄 Not that I would’ve preferred something more disruptive, but how do you genuinely view that as activism and not just making yourself feel good?
