It's that time again on a Hideous Mass Monday!

Demons are so cool in this silly little game and the fact there's very little information about them makes room for crazy theories.

Such as the possibility of demons being pack/territorial creatures.

Cerberi most definitely are pack creatures, very rarely is one truly alone in the area (both dormant and active). That or a Malicious Face is around it as well, which may be a good enough substitute for the lack of another Cerberi (looking at you, 2-2). Though Cerberi have stronger bonds with each other than random demons, hence why they enrage when their kin die.

Malicious Faces don't seem to care or mind on the other hand, a couple of them being completely alone with nothing around. Though pairings seem to be pretty common as well, and most of the time a dormant Cerberi is in a room close by. Maybe they're just adaptive to their situations? Since the lone ones are usually found in super tight spaces while open ones seem to pair up with other demons/kin.

Then you have Hideous Mass. This thing is absolutely territorial 100% and whatever Hell is doing for its amusement by teleporting them places is aggravating!!! The 1-3 Hideous Mass has no other creatures close by, the enemies are literally rooms away. The thing was dormant till we walked in and, reasonably so, pissed at the intruder. Then you have the two in Heresy, which almost throws the whole "Hideous Mass is Territorial" theory away, till you realize these two may have been competing with each other. They only stopped because an unauthorized blue robot walked in and interrupted it. Nobody likes a third party! Once more other enemies aren't even close by, a whole room and hallway away from the two. Only once you kill one do they start flooding in.

Feeling bad for the one in P-2 though, poor guy got teleported in with four Cerberus (and it will kill them itself over time. Granted by accident but it's funny). Also going to mention how the Virtues that spawn there are extremely far and completely out of Hideous Mass' mortar range. Of course it's most likely to make the fight harder but hey, we're here to have fun and theorize!

sqh has two god powers. accidentally changing the world by saying something, and any time he's more stressed than he can physically take anymore he pulls a bocchi scream. glitch effect and all. "Shang-shixiong, why don't you meet with other sect leaders? What do you think, sect leader?" "Oh yes, our trade and intersect reputation could benefit greatly from- SHANG SHIDI?????" nightmare fuel situation. he acts 100% fine when they say he doesnt have to, like it never happened.

Thinking about how Diavolo’s feelings transcend time and how in the Nightbringer UR+ card Demon Lord’s Castle Tour this conversation happens.

When asked, “Do you wish to see your father?”

Diavolo responds:

“I suppose I do . . .” isn’t the typical reaction to how a child would feel about wanting to see their parent. Especially when said parent has essentially been in a coma for a year.

Along with how Diavolo describe his father.

It makes more sense why when you learn in Lesson 56 how Diavolo was treated by him growing up.

Diavolo can tell when others are lying but is unable to understand his father’s intentions.

Diavolo mentions that he lived a very sheltered life growing up. That from a young age his father never allowed him a chance to talk to anyone outside the castle.

His childhood friend was Mephistopheles. A demon literally RAISED to be his friend. Putting a barrier between the two because Mephistopheles would put Diavolo on a pedestal.

The isolating childhood he experienced riddled with his strict father constantly scolding him.

Despite everything MC is so important to him he wants to see his father again so we can meet.

Also, it's interesting to me that there was never really any hint of Izutsumi being swayed by the demon. She seems pretty resistant to it, actually.

With Marcille there are plenty of signs on reread that she could become a dungeon lord, and of course Laios' desires have been rather plainative from the start.

But Izutsumi's desires are complicated. As we see in the succubus chapter, she has the desires of both a beast and a tallman. She has those conflicting desires as a result of her nature as a beastkin, but she also has complicated desires as an individual. There's that one panel near the end where she's looking despondent and thinking "If I only do what I like, I won't be able to see the people I like, or eat the food I want. Worse, if I only do what I like, I won't be able to eat at all."

Izutsumi has never been in conflict with her desires. She satisfies herself endlessly and without patience. But her desires are complex enough that she finds herself frustrated in her attempts to achieve them, both by her own emotions (like when Inutade gets injured clearing the roof when Izutsumi was meant to do it) and by others (like... basically 90% of her early interactions with Laios' party.)

She seems like a perfect target for a dungeon lord: I even think she has a strong contender for that "all-consuming" desire the demon tends to go for (Marcille's desire to make everyone live to the same age, Laios' desire to become a monster, Thistle's desire to find Delgal and protect the Golden Kingdom, etc) in wanting to become fully human again. I don't know if the demon can grant that to her, but it would certainly promise so.

And yet, Izutsumi has always been resistant to having her desires being preyed on. Like I mentioned earlier, there's the succubus chapter, but there's also after Laios talks to the demon. Izutsumi acts near instantly, killing Laios before the others even have a chance to figure out what's going on. And I don't think this is Izutsumi-typical flippantness either. We know she cares about Laios & the party by this point in the story, that's why she came with them to fight the demon in the first place. She'd never do anything she didn't want to.

I don't really have a point to this. It's just neat.

Every time I see people talk about Sansa and Arya's relationship as "just sisters being sisters" I think about that one girl on TikTok who was basically stalking her sister who went no-contact and kept responding to comments criticizing her with "it's just a sister thing, you wouldn't get it". Like! Being shitty to someone isn't okay just cause you're related to them. Personally thinking a certain behavior is normal/harmless does not mean the person affected by it feels the same way! Arya being mocked and having self-esteem issues is referenced often throughout the story, all the way into ADwD. How people read that (jk I know you guys don't actually read her chapters) and think their issues will magically disappear is beyond me. "Stark sisters lover" but the only time you talk about them is when you're centering Sansa and her feelings 🤨

like they love each other, absolutely. they TRUST each other, to the point where i’d even say it gets in the way of bad seeing aypierre as anything more than a good friend. that’s his guy. The dude always in his corner. Friend resource label: team mate (coparent) (down to help kidnap people). bad doesnt do classic romantic relationships- all of his relationships are INCREDIBLY queer, but the closest he usually gets to what others read as romance is a classic chewtoy4chewtoy dynamic. He LOVES to fuck with people and he loves to get fucked with and if there’s a nice jawline or pretty muscles included?? huge bonus !!

he’s got something- not kinder, with aypierre? not calmer, either, but stable, maybe. pierre has proven, over and over again, that he’s on bad’s side. Spying on tubbo, encouraging bad’s pranks, the kidnapping- i can’t call it a reliable dynamic, not with how paranoid bad is, even when he trusts, but there is still a feeling of understanding that, wherever pierre’s limits are for when he cant support bad (or genuinely turn against him), it hasnt been reached yet

aypierre, on the other hand, i dont know enough about to be absolutely sure but there are some Vibes. ironically, i think hes feeling like his relationships are unreliable. max was going to have their baby, and then he wasnt, and then he left him, then max fucking died. plus whatever is happening with him and ayrobot, which probably leaves him feeling like he cant rely on Himself. like he had, if not a little crush on bad, at least some Interest in him, before. as well as several islanders. i remember the days of the Bed Threat.

but thats part of it, too? because those flings didnt have that emotional connection, and i always got the sense that he started looking for that with maximus, to Love and Be Loved rather than pure lust. To care about someone, genuinely, and be cared about in return. but he didnt get that with the flings, and We know that max was using him, but i dont know if he did, but maybe he had a feeling about it and maybe he also had a feelinf about maximus’ feelings towards bad and maybe- there’s something about that? A little push of not-spite-not-projection onto bad.

because bad IS that reliability, right now. he’s a fucking gremlin. a bastard. a prankster silly guy. he trusts aypierre and aypierre trusts him and they dont share everything but so often, when it comes down to it, it is them against the world. them in the corner, caught, aypierre shouting about kissing as a cover for their crimes while bad runs giggling away from him.

it's funny. I keep making all these posts defending Aziraphale and it's because there's this annoying trend in the fandom to villainize him while simultaneously woobifying Crowley, so there's a need for more Aziraphale perspective

is anybody else irritated at the widespread fandom nicknaming of Aziraphale and fucking nobody else? is that just me? because it really feels like a "oooh [wince-hisses through teeth], no, that's too long and weird. that's too hard. i'm gonna call you This instead" situation, and i do not care for it. it pissed me off when i was writing good omens fanfic thirteen years ago and it pisses me off now. you care enough about everyone else to get their names right, all the unusual demon and angel monikers, but oh no, Aziraphale, oh that's ten whole letters, that's way too long. oh you're not gonna bother to type all that, no, his name is just Zira now.

and like, he's not real, so this super duper does not matter and isn't deeply and incredibly shitty the way it is when it's directed at real people. but it still rubs me the wrong way every time i see it. that's not his name! why is his name not good enough for you to take the time to type out the way you do for everyone else! ugh.

I'm glad Bendy is slowly — but surely — growing out of his hyper-protective and thus demanding personality traits; I'm happy to see that Bendy wants to keep on doing better, and not only does he do his best to be better than he was acting before, but understands that it's hard, it's always gonna be hard but still keeps pushing. He doesn't let the difficulty of the situation topple him
