do you ever think about treebark post-lab? maybe ren accidentally slips back into puppy mode a few times and martyn sits with him until he feels better. and then they take a nap and they’re cozy.

I actually think about this a surprising amount lol

Martyn absolutely panics the first time Ren relapses. Thinks maybe he's done something wrong to trigger it. Maybe it's his fault.

And when Ren comes back to himself he doesn't handle it much better. He thought he was better. He thought he could be a normal human being again. What if he never gets better? What if... This is just his life now?

And a small part of Ren feels guilty because. He likes being in puppy mode. It's easy. The learning curve to act human again has been something he struggled with for ages and being able to just... Slip back into that easy life... It's not stressful, it's not painful, it's so nice. He doesn't have to worry about anything. Martyn will take care of him and love him anyways and it's just so much easier.

Ren kind of wishes he could go back.

But he would never tell Martyn that! And sometimes he's really glad to be himself again. He likes being able to think sometimes. Until he starts to worry about everything...

But it's okay. Those relapses are frequent immediately after their escape, but they become less often as the months and years pass. And eventually Ren is okay again.

-so admittedly there are only two named red gods (that i’m aware of? i think cleo only counts sometimes) but like… can red gods really die? i mean, chaos is eternal, and ants- literal insects- have wars. also if we’re counting cleo then yknow. death. and i saw something about octopi having wars, and i’m not entirely sure if that’s true but it’s an interesting thought.

- so this is a little more on the headcanon side, but i like to imagine that the gods originally found out about harbingers bc someone really didn’t want their favorite little animal to die (been playing with the idea of technoblade and steve. polar bears my beloved.)

all my other questions might go into spoiler territory. so i apologize and you don’t have to answer.

- do harbingers get any cool powers? i know that grian has wings but that was an accident

- are there any other red gods you can share the identities of?

- does ren ever start bringing martyn to wars with him. for the violence.

- if you ever write a btdom treebark please please share i am obsessed with them

- do ren and scar get along at all? i know in the fic they had some. interesting moments. but i think that was because they were both messing with the other one’s special little guy? idk i might be branching off into headcanon territory again.

- also i’ve been theorizing about gem. i think she could be a goddess (red, clearly) and i haven’t entirely figured out what her domain could be but it’s something violent.

- is bdubs a god or is he just kinda hanging out?

Wow that is a lot of questions! Unfortunately, for the sake of the sequel, I can’t answer most of them. I’ll speedrun what I can say though!

1. As I mentioned briefly in my other post, Martyn dodges the next draft. He runs away and Ren has to find him again!

2. The definition of death for gods isn’t the same as it is for humans. For gods, it’s more so “when your well of power runs out” which, for a lot of them, is hard to make happen, but not impossible. The end of humanity/the earth as a whole is the most efficient way to do it for the majority.

3. Haha i don’t really have plans to incorporate other fandoms into this one, but that idea is cute for the discovery of Harbingers. There is an answer, but I’m leaving this purposely ambiguous!

4. Harbingers having cool powers is on the table, but it differs from person to person. They typically have some level of command over their god’s domain. And for those of them with the god actually wrapped around their finger completely (Grian) they have more at their disposal by appealing to said god.

5. I can’t share any identities right now

6. Ren absolutely does. Martyn’s a badass, he just needs to believe in the cause.

7. I don’t currently have plans to, because I really just want to focus on getting this sequel out before planning others, so no promises.

8. Scar has no actual friends besides Grian. People tolerate his ass.

9. I can’t share anything about Gem, but I can say unfortunately that theory is not quite on the mark

10. Bdubs is a centaur! I cannot reveal anything more about him

random question based on the imp and skizz band au because im curious- is the mysterious fourth person ren from when he took over for tango that one ep, technically making him part of the heart foundation?

this might be a wild guess because i dont think ren plays the drums but hey, im jsut asking this based off the fact he could technically be counted as a heart foundation guy

It's not Ren, but I did think of another role for him since you mentioned it! He's gonna be the band's social media manager :D He does most of the posts on things like Insta and whatever else the band uses (haven't thought too deeply about it) and also occasionally just hangs out or jams with them when they're practicing. Outside of that, he's in college for acting, theater, something along those lines, because it's Ren. Obviously.

ALSO! This fic is now also treebark >:) that's right, Martyn and Ren are dating, and Martyn sometimes helps out with recording their performances or records when he has time, but it's more of a side gig than anything, and he only does it when Tango can't. But yeah,, they're boyfriends <3

Anyways, Ren was a good guess, and I'm so glad he's in the au now because I love him, but the secret fourth person was Cleo! Which people guessed pretty much instantly lol. I'm gonna make the promised art of them eventually, as well as give all their juicy backstory (and it actually has a LOT to do with why Imp and Skizz met.. ;) But in the meantime, I kinda hyperfocused on the new artstyle for a couple days and way overextended myself drawing rip, so it'll be a couple days until the Cleo art. That, and I hurt my finger in a cheese grater so it's gonna be a bit slower anyways sads, and on top of those two excuses, I made a whole lineart and then hated it and couldn't figure out what was wrong. so i scrapped it 👍
