Weekly Update: Tiredddddd

I spent so much of this week not feeling good, I’m just in a funk still. But I still managed to do a lot of things in my personal life and I think that has to count for something so let’s get into it!

Firstly, I’ve had to change my plans heavily for the future which I think has helped to contribute to this feeling of depression. I missed the application deadline for my Master’s program which is completely my fault and no one else’s, I applied for summer semester but I worry they won’t let me in cause on my unofficial transcripts (which are the only ones I have access to until the 12th of June) I am literally a single A behind a 3.0 gpa. With my last semester’s grade I’m at a 3.2 gpa but of course it doesn’t show that. I can apply in August for my spring semester but I have to obviously wait till then. There are no entry level jobs at any library outside of one all the way at the top of Northern California and I can’t go for that for many reasons. I don’t want to uproot my entire life for a job I may not even get…plus I truly believe Southern California is the only place I belong, I don’t think I could find a part of the world I feel as accepted in as SoCal, which makes me sad cause more and more influencers keep moving here and forcing locals out and taking up once local spaces and turning them into tourist destinations. But I obviously need a job in the meantime, so what do I do? Well, I have decided to go into teaching until I have my masters. I’m studying for my cbest test and I’ll be taking it in the middle of the month. The school districts by me are very desperate for teachers and substitute teachers. I want to get in as a teacher for elementary school children, specifically kindergarten since I used to volunteer with kindergartners every day except weekends for years since I was part of a program to lessen stress for teachers at my elementary school. So I have a lot of experience, plus I do want to help children with reading since I think it’s important for children to learn to read. This won’t be permanent, but it’s my best option until a library job opens back up.

I also want to write a book series, I’m working on the outline and finishing up a few plot points + characters then I should be able to start writing. I know I’ll have to really struggle to get it published but who knows, maybe I can show them my “popular” tumblr fanfics and that will help with publishing lol. You never know! I’ll be sharing a rough draft of the first three chapters in the future for feedback on here as well!

Now let’s move onto more light hearted stuff. So, the day I’m writing this is my mother’s birthday but we celebrated it earlier this week. Still, I plan to make her dinner tonight and clean the house a bit so she can enjoy her birthday today. Earlier this week, we went to Bob’s Big Boy, possibly one of her favorite restaurants. When I think of an American diner, I think of this place or Denny’s…I know, not really small town cozy places but in a state like California, these places are sometimes all you can afford and they become community hubs in their own right. My god mother also came with us to the celebration and we all had a really good time, she ordered this brownie sundae that we all shared, it’s so rich and delicious and warm I miss it lol

During a week where I feel lost, my cats and my partner are my anchor. I feel bad that I barely talked to any of my friends this week but that just means I have to do better this week. But I’m so grateful for both my lovely girl and my cats. My cat Willow was particularly helpful this week, I kept smothering her and cuddling her and crying into her fur (which in turn would make my throat itchy for the rest of the day since I’m mildly allergic to cats…but that won’t stop me from owning them I love cats so so so much) and all she did in response was either huff or let out the cutest little meows and whines in an attempt to get away. But Willow is so sweet she never claws nor bites, she rarely even squirms, she just wants her frustration to be heard lol. My gf took a photo of her this week and she fucking looks like a little bug I actually felt ill looking at this photo like how can one little cat be so cute and bug like?!

Like I said, I think having to change my plans helped to cause these odd feelings in my heart these past two weeks. I’ve wanted a lot of comfort which made me even more emotional and longing for my gf, while we live super close to each other we usually only have the time to see each other once a week but we’re hoping we can see each other more with the summer. I think we will be able to but we still have to wait and see! But regardless, every second I spend with her makes me remember why I’m still here. Maybe that’s a bit corny or sad, but I don’t really care. It’s how I feel. I’m glad I held on this long because I got to meet my darling girl, my only regret in this life is that we didn’t meet sooner. I wish we had, but I have her now, and that’s what matters. Occasionally we will get boba when we hang out, I’m the type of person that tries a singular flavor at a boba shop and decides that’s the only flavor I’ll ever order. I really worry about wasting food so it’s like, what if I order something new and then I don’t like it?! But my darling has come up with a solution, we both order flavors that sound good to the both of us and that way we can trade drinks if we don’t like the flavors we ordered! Yesterday I ordered a blueberry milk tea and she ordered an Ube yam blended smoothie. Oh my god…I really liked my tea but her drink was literally incredible. We both agreed we plan to order the ube drink again next time we go lol.

While I am currently at a weird point in my life since I’m technically “employed” but not at the same time, I have to watch my money. However…long before I knew I’d be in this situation, I preordered some of the nitro chiral 20th anniversary merch…well it came yesterday! I do not regret this, especially since I got it right before the tariffs went into effect so they weren’t horribly priced. Before this purchase we already had Towa, Rei, and Fujieda (both his lawyer look and his casual one) in acrylic stand form. But now we have Taku, Ikuina, and Eiji. I ordered Ikuina and Eiji for my gf but Taku…grandpa is allllll mine. I need to start taking aesthetic photos with these acrylic stands for joyous purposes but I guess I feel a tiny bit embarrassed taking them out in public but also like, I shouldn’t hold that shame, it’s literally not hurting anyone to be a little bit silly.

We started Sweet Pool yesterday and we plan to play more tonight! I played a bit of it in my youth (by played I mean the evil woman who showed me Wolf’s Rain would stream it to me) and I barely remember any of it from back then but the bit me and my gf played yesterday was really fun! I really love the vibes and I love my autistic boy Tetsuo. Oh yeah, another thing that makes Sweet Pool exciting for me is the religious aspect. So I don’t talk about religion on here for many reasons but for a long time I was Christian and I went to only Christian schools until the fourth grade. It was really traumatizing and I think that a lot of churches are genuinely horrible…but I still find the Bible and organized religion interesting. I like talking about religion but most of my friends don’t want to hear about that which is fair, plus I’m not going to talk religion with a practicing Christian since every time I have they try to convert me back to the religion like I left for a reason buddy! But my gf wasn’t raised religious at all, she’s never been to church service once, so she’ll sometimes ask me questions about Christianity and I get to infodump and it’s great!!!

I paint my nails every week! I really love the look of painted nails and it gives me a moment of alone time where I can only focus on myself and nothing nor no one else. It’s really nice…but I also enjoy painting nails with others! I mainly paint my nails and my gfs but I have painted my friends in the past! This week the nail polishes my girlfriend ordered for our anniversary came in! So we decided to paint our nails the same shade! The shade is Jewel Beetle by Mooncat, which is my favorite brand of nail polish. It’s rare she wants her nails painted so it made me super excited and both of our nails came out so cute!!! I keep my nails super short in comparison to her cause I hate the sensation of my nails pressing against the keyboard when I’m typing, it’s very distracting so I keep them short to make typing as comfortable as possible. She keeps her nails longer just cause she likes them like that. The color shift on this polish is actually insane I am obsessed with it…

Last week I highlighted a Sheena Ringo song and I regret that I posted it last week…because I didn’t give you guys the music video! This was the first music video I saw by Sheena Ringo, I was fourteen when I saw it. I still view her as a gay icon cause of it though her sexuality isn’t labeled. But as a young lesbian seeing something like this on my IPhone 5c was incredible, so I wanted you guys to see the music video! Honestly I feel like it makes the song even better.

Earlier this week my friend Joey sent a video to the group chat we’re in and captioned it “how Lynn feels”. Now…most of my old friends would bully me, I feel lame using that word but they wouldn’t compliment me unless it was backhanded. One of them once said I was Cellophane by FKA twigs cause I’d never be enough for anyone I dated…like wow! That’s a crazy thing to say to someone who you call a friend! So the cynical side of me assumed the video would be teasing or cringe, but that’s not what it was at all. It was a video with the global village coffee house aesthetic with Norah Jones song “Don’t know why” playing in the background…it was so sweet I genuinely teared up. I guess that the people I’m friends with now actually like me as a person sometimes…idk I have bad imposter syndrome and I worry that I’m not someone people think about…so even just a little gesture like that reaffirms that not only am I someone people consider a friend but someone they think of fondly…I have been listening to the song a lot, it’s super calm and sweet, I really like it.

I haven’t watched The Last of Us season 2 due to the boycott of it, I thought the first season was fine but after it was put on the boycott list I decided I wouldn’t watch season 2. I’d occasionally get videos talking about the new season in my YouTube feed but I ignored all of them…until this one. I mean the title seemed interesting and I actually think the video is really good! The commodification of art even when it originally came from a real place of creativity is sad to see but something that needs to be discussed. I mean…look at the live action Lilo and Stitch…yikes!

Padme, during RotS development

One thing to understand is that for the first several months of pre-production, George Lucas is still writing the script (pre-production started roughly around late April of 2002, with the first draft of the script finished in late January 2003. To quote Paul Duncan: 'before the script was written, the design team were given the freedom to imagine possible scenarios', and Rick McCallum: 'usually no one would go off and spend millions of dollars without understanding what the very foundation of the film they're making is, but we break that very rule of film production'.

August 2002: While revieving costume designs, GLucas indicated that Padme will need senatorial, casual and action wear.

October 12th, 2002: 'For the first time, it is rumoured that Padmé might die in this film. She might be seen last on Alderaan.'

October 25th-31st, 2002: In response to GLucas requesting a new locale for a Padme and Anakin 'love scene', Erik Tiemens designed several Naboo sceneries. Upon viewing them, GLucas moved the scene to Coruscant; some design elements are used for Kashyyyk.

November 1st-8th, 2002: Iain McCaig: 'George said there might be a scene where Padme's doubled over in agony and Yoda is there unable to help her'.

November 22nd, 2022: Erik Tiemens designed a set of new locations for Padme and Anakin 'love scene' on Coruscant.

December 19th, 2002: Erik Tiemens: 'I was brainstorming with Iain [McCaig] and he thought that Padme might have a dagger in her hand'.

December 20th, 2002: Derek Thompson illustrated his idea of having Vader find Padme and the children, who are being protected by Jedi.

January 31st 2003: GLucas delivered the first rough draft to his producer Rick McCallum. The outline given in the book is brief, but Padme's basic storyline in the 55 page script appears no different. However, Anakin's nightmare about Padme features her consumed by flames, and Padme goes to Mustafar with her handmaidens and Captain Typho - who are gunned down by clones on arrival.

February 6th, 2003: Erik Tiemens designed a piece of concept art for Padme's funeral procession.

April 12th/13th 2003: GLucas presented the first official draft of the movie script. It's 111 pages long. Padmé and her entourage are still attacked on their arrival on Mustafar, but this time by droids whom Anakin defeats. In regards to Padme's death, Palpatine tells Vader that a Jedi murdered her.

May 5th, 2003: Iain McCaig's designed Padme's funeral outfit.

May 24th, 2003: Erik Tiemens illustrated Padme and Anakin's farewell before he leaves for Mustafar.

May 29th, 2003: Erik Tiemens illustrated Padme watching the Jedi temple burn.

June 13th 2003: GLucas presented the second official draft of the movie script. It's 135 pages long. Anakin's nightmare of Padmé is changed from her being consumed by flames, to her dying in childbirth. There is now a scene where Palpatine suggests to Anakin that Obi-Wan is meeting with Padmé secretly. In regards to Padme's actual death, Palpatine tells Vader that he [Vader] murdered her, just as in the movie. Just like the finished movie, it is noted that Padme dies of a broken heart. Padme's final smile at Leia is noted to be the smile that Leia remembers in RotJ.

June 26th, 2003: The fourth draft of the script is completed, consisting of 129 pages. Padme is no longer accompanied to Mustafar by Typho and her handmaidens.

June 30th, 2003: Principal photography begins.

July 2nd, 2003: First Padme scenes are shot, both located in her apartment (Her and Obi-Wan discussing Anakin, and Padme with the other senators).

July 3rd, 2003: Revised script for the scene in which Obi-Wan tells Padme he knows about her and Anakin.

August 12th, 2003: Last day of principal shooting for Natalie Portman.

September 17th, 2003: Principal shooting finishes.

December 21st, 2003: Iain McCaig designed a practical costume for Padme.

March 9th, 2004: All but the last ('thunderous applause') of Padme's political scenes have now been cut from the final film.

August 23rd - September 3rd 2004: Reshoots

August 23rd, 2004: Additional scene scripted for reshoot the following day.

January 31st, 2005: One last day of filming for Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen.

January 12th - Skiiing Day

On January 12, 1911, Major Lerch of the Austrian Army first taught a young officer in the Niigata Prefecture how to ski. Be careful when doing tricks!

February 6th - Blog Day

Based on bu (2) rogu (6). A blog post from Shuu, it reads: “February 6 Have you heard of a flower called the ‘Hardenbergia’? It is also called a ‘Komachifuji’ and as its name suggests, it blooms with lovely purple petals. And here is the usual Tsukiyama Shuu’s Flower Language Corner. In flower language, a Hardenbergia refers to: “A fateful encounter.” “Happiness will unexpectedly drop in.” …and the like. There’s also “a miraculous miracle”… —But this is what I think. This moment is also a miracle.” The comments feature Touka being quite rude, Kaneki adding little of importance, and Yomo not understanding technology.

February 25th - Hori Chie’s Birthday

Hori was Tsukiyama Shuu’s classmate in Seinan High School. Hori treats Tsukiyama as her photographic subject and despite Tsukiyama being a ghoul, she doesn’t fear him. Tsukiyama in return finds her intriguing and treats her as a pet. Their relationship continues on until now making them long-time acquaintances. Whether they have a good relationship or not, it’s difficult to say for sure.

The Persistence of Memory. “I saw three soft Shuus. One of them had a deplorable figure that hanged down from the branch of the olive tree.”

May 27th - Hyakunin Isshu Day

No. 86 Saigo Hoshi “Should I blame the moon, for bringing forth this sadness, as if it pictured grief? Lifting up my troubled face, I regard it through my tears.” Grief? Is that what you’re trying to say, moon? I don’t think so. Did I only just want to blame the moon for this sadness?

May 28th - Fireworks Day.

On this day in 1733, fireworks were launched for the first time for a festival in Ryogoku. The festival was first held by the 8th shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, Yoshimune, in order to calm the spirits of the dead who fell to the great famine and cholera in the previous years. Now, it is held annually as water god festivies to ward off evil spirits. (Note: turn up the brightness or stare very hard for a long time. He is there, I promise.)

June 9th - 6th Ward Day

A huge amount of members were sacrificed during the annihilation of ‘Aogiri’s Hideout’ in the 11th Ward. Afterwards, Kaneki left ‘Anteiku’ in order to follow Rize’s footsteps and entered a new world, the ‘6th Ward’, alongside Tsukiyama and Banjou.

August 27th -Miyazawa Kenji’s Birthday

A poet and writer of fairy tales who was based in his hometown of Iwate. The paradise of his work was given the name ‘Ihatov’.

In his masterpiece “The Restaurant of Many Orders”, two young men went hunting in the forest, got lost, and strayed into a restaurant called ‘Wildcat House’. The irony of it all is when the two instead became the food.

summary: Lola's sister is getting married and the best man happens to be her cheating ex. In a desperate attempt to impress her family and show her ex she’s moved on with a hot date Lola turns to the advice of coworker pointing her towards the direction of a male escort. Rafe Cameron was the perfect man to take to any event for just $8,000. Her family won’t suspect a thing and when the wedding’s over they’ll never see each other again. Right?

Lola opened the door to her apartment shedding her rain coat and hanging it on her coat rack. The last of the May rain was really getting the best of her this year. She loved living in the city because it was walkable but she didn’t love it when it rained because she got soaked on her commute home. Her cat, Sailor, jumped down from the window sill of the living room and came to greet her rubbing her head against her legs purring lightly.

“Hi sweet girl, did you have a good day today?” Lola asked the black fluffy cat as she bent down and picked her up. Cradling her like a baby and kissing her face. Lola got lucky with a cuddly easy going cat. She felt like Sailor was her closest and most trusted friend.

She set Sailor down and walked over to her room with a content sigh. After changing into some comfy clothes and washing her makeup off she laid on her big grey couch. Her plans for the rest of the evening were to lay on her couch and get Chinese takeout, catch up on emails and watch her favorite show. Her favorite activities. After putting on friends as a little background noise she pulled her laptop out of her bag to check her emails. That’s when her memory of her morning at the office came back to her, her face flushed as she looked at the drafted email in front of her.

Hi my name is Lola and I’m in need of a date to a wedding. It’d be more than a date actually, I need a fake boyfriend in about two weeks for 5 days. It’ll be June 12th-17th in the Hamptons. My sister is getting married in the hamptons and my family is kind of nuts and obsessed with me getting a boyfriend. My ex boyfriend is also the best man in the wedding, and if it was like a regular break up it’d be fine but he cheated on me for over a year of our relationship so I want to show that I’ve moved on. I may seem desperate but I kind of am. Did I mention that I heard of you through a work friend whose cousin has a friend who hired you for some event. So if you’re interested please email me back and if you’re not then please forget I ever emailed you.

“oh God,” she muttered as she read it over. Did she sound desperate? maybe.

Eight months ago Lola’s sister Penny had called her squealing with excitement. She barely let Lola say hello before she was spilling the news about how her boyfriend, now fiancée, Harry had proposed to her. How he did it in the most romantic way while they were on vacation in Italy. It was hard for Lola to feel excited for her sister but she still put on an amazing act like always. All her life Penny had outshined and beat Lola in everything. She was the younger shining star that their mother put on a pedestal, little sister never did anything wrong. Penny won first place in science fairs, always got the boy, never had to try hard to get her dream job. It all seemed to come easy to her.

Three years ago Lola moved after graduating from college because she got an amazing job at a publishing office. She even got cute apartment and she felt like she was finally coming into her own. Penny came to the city when her and Harry were just friends to see him, of course seeing her sister wasn't her main priority. But she figured she’d kill two birds with one stone and invited Lola to dinner with them, where then Harry invited his best friend Thomas. They immediately hit it off and soon after he was her everything. She thought she’d be the first to get married, until two years into the relationship she found out the scum bag had been cheating on her for a year of the relationship. Lola was surprising him at work with lunch when this girl from his office crawled out from under his desk.

Ever since Penny had given her the news of the engagement she had face-timed or called Lola almost every week for the first few months whether it was about what flowers should be the center pieces or how many tiers should the cake be. Along with breaking the news that Thomas was going to be the best man, Penny just mentioned it in passing like it was no big deal. As if her sister's cheating ex wasn't going to be an important part of the wedding.

It was mentally exhausting but Lola couldn’t complain. It was her sister she had to help her and be there, she had to be a good big sister. Every time during those calls Penny would find a way to weasel in the question, “so do you have a date yet?” Lola hated that question. It was like Penny knew her sister couldn’t find a date. Every time Lola would say the same thing, “Not yet Pen.” Then she’d say, “I think Thomas is still bringing that girl from soho.” Almost as if she was trying to chip away at Lola’s finally mended heart. The last time Penny called about and asked that god forsaken question Lola blurted out a lie. “Actually yeah I-I’ve been seeing a guy for a few months but uh I didn’t want to invite him until I was sure about him.”

The lie came out almost too easy and she immediately regretted it. Where was she going to find a date. Especially someone who would want to spend 5 days with her crazy family. She had rested her head on her desk with a loud thud after she hung up the phone, catching the attention of Fiona.

“You good over there?” She asked peaking over at her coworker.

Lola lifted her head facing her, “I’m royally screwed.” She explained the situation to Fiona about the imaginary date she was taking.

“Who the hell am I going to find in a week,” Lola groaned tugging at her hair.

Fiona hummed in thought, “Okay you’re probably going to say no, but I may have a solution.”

Fiona explained how her cousin’s friend hired a male escort to go with her to a work party. The woman had been tired of going to work parties alone for the last few years and took matters into her own hands. The cousin’s friend had found him after he did a small anonymous segment in a magazine about male escorts. She knew the magazine’s editor and found the guy. Lola thought Fiona was crazy if she thought she would do that and immediately shut the idea down. But after some contemplation she timidly asked how she could get in contact with the guy, which led to the typing up of the email. She didn’t send it because she wasn’t sure if this would be a smart idea.

Lola read the drafted email over and over again, hovering the mouse over send. What could go wrong? A lot actually. Her whole family could find out and she’d be the laughing stock of the century. After that thought she definitely wasn’t going to send it. Maybe she could just go alone and tell her sister that her and mystery man broke up. As she was about to delete it Sailor jumped onto her lap and her fingers slipped and pressed down on send.

“Sailor! Fuck,” she gasped as she sat up, the cat getting off of her and standing on the ledge of the couch.

I guess there’s no turning back now, she thought to herself. She was honestly hoping he wouldn’t reply, but for some reason the rejection would make her feel worse.

Saturday’s were Lola’s favorite because she would go to her favorite deli and get a bagel, then head over to the farmers market. She had spent the whole night before refreshing her email with a glass of wine in hand waiting for Rafe’s reply

She was headed back home her shoulders carrying reusable bags filled with produce. Her favorite part of the day was over, but she couldn’t help but be anxious to get home and check her email. She hadn’t let herself check before she left the apartment or while she was at the market. It was 2pm now he has to have replied by now.

She made her way into her apartment unloaded the bags onto her kitchen counters before almost running to the living room where her laptop sat on the couch. Lola took a deep breath before opening her email, closing her eyes as her new messages loaded.

“Sailor this is your fault if he rejects me,” she muttered as the cat stared at her from the window sill. She looked back at her screen and the email with the subject title Hamptons Wedding staring at her. He had replied, her heart rate instantly picking up. She didn’t even know if this guy was good looking now that she thought about it. What if he ended up being some murderer? Before her racing mind took over she opened the email.

Lola,

It sounds like you’re in a sticky situation, so I’d like to help you out. Hopefully we can discuss all the details and the prices in person to get to know each other better. If you’re free this afternoon we can meet at Lucy’s in Manhattan at 6pm. Let me know if that works for you.

“Holy shit,” she gasped. Lola looked at the corner of her laptop at the time, 2:48pm.

Rafe,

That sounds great, I’ll see you then!

She quickly scrambled to her bathroom after sending her reply. It was her hair wash day and with about two and a half hours left to get ready she needed to start now.

As she was getting ready her mind was racing. What if he was ugly? But he did this for a living so she was sure that he had to be good looking. Hopefully not too out of her league or else how would her family believe her. How would Thomas believe her. What if Rafe thought she wasn’t pretty. Lola felt like she was getting ready for a blind date with the way she meticulously did her hair and winged her eyeliner. She had to keep reminding herself that this was just a business transaction, she didn’t need to impress him. Well maybe she did because he could totally reject her and turn down the idea.

When she was finally ready it was 5:21pm. She stared at herself in the mirror hoping her black dress and knitted cropped button up and boots looked good. She gave herself a small smile in the mirror and grabbed her bag. Kissing Sailor goodbye she headed out the door. The bar wasn’t too far from her apartment just a short 15 minute walk. She wore her headphones and listened to Taylor Swift trying to keep her mind elsewhere. Lola arrived to the bar and found a booth towards the back, she sat on the side facing the door so she could watch for her mystery man.

“Can you I get you anything to drink?” The waitress asked.

“Oh uh can I get a cosmo please,” Lola smiled politely. The waitress nodded and headed over to the bar.

Lola fidgeted with the rings on her fingers, eyes glued to the door. The door opened and a man walked through, probably just slightly taller than her with dark hair. Maybe this was him she thought as she sat up straighter, but he walked over to the other side of the bar greeting some other men who were already sat there. Her posture deflated a bit, maybe she was somehow being stood up. The waitress brought over her cosmo and she thanked her quietly. Taking a couple gulps to ease her nerves, almost finishing the whole drink.

The door to the bar opened once again and a tall man walked in. He was extremely handsome, chiseled features and dirty blonde hair. He was wearing a green button up and black jeans a silver chain around his neck. He stood at the front looking around until his eyes met Lola’s. He grinned and walked over to her. She couldn’t believe that this was Rafe, she felt like he was definitely out of her league.

“Hi, are you Lola?” Rafe asked even though he knew it was her. Her nervous demeanor and doe eyes definitely gave her away. His clients tended to have a certain anxious look to them, but she seemed different. She was also a lot younger than his usual clients, she seemed like she was his age but he was used to taking women in their 30s out. Rafe immediately thought she was pretty and he wondered how she couldn't find a real date to take.

“Hi yeah that’s uh me,” She smiled as she shook his outstretched hand. He sat down across from her and she really got a good look at him. He wasn’t just handsome he was hot. His eyes were blue and he had a bit of scruff as well as a bit of a mustache. His hair was parted down the middle his dirty blonde hair framing his face.

“So let’s talk business?” He asked breaking her out of her trance.

“Oh yeah, so I’ve never done anything like this ever. I just I really don’t want to go alone to this thing.”

He nodded, “Yeah that’s understandable, especially since you said your ex is the best man.” Rafe had been to a few weddings as a hired date but never one where his date was in the wedding party.

She raised her eyebrows and sighed, “Yeah just the icing on top of the cake. We were together for two years and I found him cheating on me with his coworker. I think he felt so guilty that he told me how he had been cheating on me for a year of our relationship because he felt like the spark had gone,” she laughed bitterly, “But the douche bag felt like faking it for a year with me would hurt less than a break up. I shouldn’t have dumped all of that on you.” She laughed cheek’s getting hot as she realized she’d told her tragic love story to some stranger.

“It’s fine, kind of what I’m here for. I’m sorry he treated you like that. No one deserves that. I'm also here to make sure he sees what he missed out on,” He smiled sincerely.

The waitress walked over, “Hi can I get you anything to drink?”

“Oh yeah can I just get a tequila soda,” he looked over at Lola’s empty glass, “and another one of whatever she’s having.”

“I’ll be right back with that,” she smiled.

“Before I give you a price or anything like that I just want to know a breakdown of the whole thing. I know you said five days in the Hamptons,” Rafe said folding his arms over the table. Lola couldn’t help but stare at his arms, it had been a while since she had been on a date so she couldn’t help but stare at the greek god in front of her.

Lola nodded, “Right, it’s five days and we’d be staying at my parents Hampton’s house. My dad’s a doctor and my mom is an interior designer, my mom is a bit of a nut,” she chuckled, “But uh there will be a cocktail party, rehearsal dinner, bachelorette and bachelor party, a couple of family barbecues, there’s this tradition where we all play baseball. Just a lot of events leading up to the actual wedding.”

Rafe was really fascinated by Lola, he could tell she was an anxious person. He could also tell she didn’t know exactly how beautiful she was and he had a feeling that may have something to do with her family.

“Sounds like pretty standard wedding stuff, I usually am just the date to the actual wedding but it all sounds fun,” he shrugged.

She shook her head, “You won’t be saying that after you have to hear my sister whine about every little thing and my mom hits on you after her sixth glass of wine.”

“I can handle drunk moms, I promise. For the five days it’d be $8,000. If you wanted to do any intimate stuff then that costs extra,” He couldn’t help the small smirk that formed on his lips. He knew that she was going to refuse the intimate stuff because she didn’t seem like the type but he kind of liked seeing her squirm.

“Oh no I’m good, I just don’t I won’t,” she stuttered with a flushed face, “I won’t need the extra.” Lola was a pretty good saver so the money wasn’t a problem for her, and as much as she hated to say it she was a bit of a trust fund kid.

He chuckled, “Okay, so you pay the day that we leave. We can get our story together now so that if any questions come up like how we met we can answer them.”

“Alright, so uh what’s our story?”

Rafe pursed his lips thinking for a second, “Uh we met here. You came in after work for a drink, I came up to you flirted and the rest is history. Our first date was at Romano’s and we’ve been together for six months?”

Lola nodded her head taking a sip of her new cosmo the waitress had just brought over, “What if they ask me about you? Like who you are what your job is?"

“I’m a real estate developer my company is Cameron Development. I have two sisters and I’m from North Carolina,” He took a sip of his drink. He didn’t know what he was giving her real details about his life but he felt like he could trust her. She had a warm aura to her that was pulling him in.

“How old you are? College? Favorite foods? Are you allergic to anything?” She asked nervously trying to get as much information as possible.

“Sweetheart they’re not gonna ask that much I promise,” he chuckled, “but I'm 25, I didn’t go to college my dad passed on the company to me. My favorite food is any pasta, I’m not allergic to anything. I also need to know some things about you, to make it fair.”

She sighed, “Right. Well I’m really boring. I'm 24 I grew up in New Jersey, I went to Syracuse and majored in english. I work at a publishing company and I have a cat named Sailor. I hate mushrooms and I’m allergic to bees.”

“Tell me more about your family,” He leaned back in his seat and she swore everything he did was just too attractive.

“So my sister, Penny, she’s the one getting married. She’s my younger and only sister. She’s always kinda been the golden child, her fiancée Harry is a nice guy despite who his friends are. My mom is nuts she prefers wine over water. My dad is the only one in my family who really sees me, he’s a great guy,” She smiled lightly, “Uh my cousin Tabitha is crazy but like the good kind, she’s always a good time I love her. Everyone else like my aunts and uncles are all kind of kooky.”

Rafe smirked, “Kooky eh? I think I can handle that. All seems like standard wedding guests.”

Lola started fidgeting with her rings, “I-I really can’t thank you enough for this. I’ve never done anything like this before. I just really hope we can convince people.”

“Lola you don’t have anything to worry about okay? I promise we’ll be convincing, I’m a professional remember. It’s my job to make you feel good about yourself and talk you up to your family,” He gave her a crooked smile, “Now I just need to hear more about this dick ex boyfriend.”

She pushed away the warm feeling in her stomach that rose when he said he was going to make her feel good, “Oh god. So uh he works in finance and he thinks he’s some big hot shot. When we broke up he immediately got with the girl he had been cheating on me with, I think he's actually taking her. He’s self obsessed and arrogant but I was too blind in love to see it. Someone had finally paid attention to me and I ate it up.”

“So definitely a grade A douche bag, we’ll make him jealous Lola.” Rafe reassured.

She nodded giving him a tight lipped smile. There had been a question itching at her to ask him, “so how did you start doing this?”

He laughed, “I’ve been waiting for you to ask, everyone always does. I uh kind of needed money and this girl from my hometown paid me two hundred bucks to take her to a Christmas party because she didn’t want to go alone. It sort of spiraled from there, but this isn’t my only job.”

“What else do you do?” She tilted her head curiously. He really didn’t need her to be doing cute things like that.

“That’s top secret, I don’t want to give out too much of myself for business reasons,” That was sort of a white lie because Rafe had in-fact told her what else he did but she didn’t need to know that Cameron Development was real.

“That’s understandable.”

After talking a bit more to get all their ducks in a row they left the bar, Rafe paying for their drinks despite Lola’s refusal. She was beginning to feel confident that they’d be able to pull this off. It was almost 10pm now as they walked side by side.

“How far do you live?” He asked looking over at her.

“It’s a fifteen minute walk,” She said looking up at him. Now that they were walking side by side she could really see their height difference. He was so much taller and broader than her, she felt light headed just thinking about it. Thomas had only been slightly taller than her.

“Let me walk you, it’s late.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive sweetheart, I can’t let you walk home alone.” He smiled.

The walk was filled with small talk about Lola’s job and her cat. Rafe barely spoke about himself but she knew it was to keep himself as anonymous as possible. They reached her apartment a lot quicker than she’d liked. Not that she would actually admit that.

“This is me.”

“Alright well you have my number so text me any other details I need to know, I’ll be here to pick you up in about a week. I know you have some doubts and anxiousness about this whole situation so if you need some reassurance don’t be afraid to reach out to me, but I promise this will all be fine.” He smiled hoping to ease her nerves.

“Thank you Rafe, really. You have no idea how much this means to me.” She smiled.

“Just doing my job sweetheart.”

“I’ll see you in a weeks then, goodnight Rafe.” She said before walking up to her apartment with butterflies in her stomach at the pet name he had used.

“Night Lola,” He waved before walking off in the direction of his apartment.

Lola wasn’t really regretting accidentally sending that email anymore. She only slightly regretted it because she didn’t expect him to be so handsome and charming, she would easily get sucked in to something that wasn’t going to be real. But she’d do anything to not face her family and ex alone.

As Rafe walked home he couldn’t help but think about Lola. His clients were usually older women these days, he also didn’t take on as many as he used to. Lately taking random women out to Christmas parties, fourth of July barbecues, and weddings didn’t feel as good as it did when he was 20. When he got Lola’s email he felt himself drawn to her, she seemed sweet and truly hurting about something. She didn’t sound desperate in the way other women did, she sounded hopeful. Rafe knew he would be royally screwed if he didn’t get his head in the game.

Ottavia was born on April 12th 1907 in Caltagirone as the child of Francesco Penna, Baron of Portosalvo, and Ignazia (Ines) Crescimanno Maggiore, Duchess of Albafiorita. Ottavia was the third of five daughters and her sisters' names were Carolina (who would inherit her mother's title), Girolama Maria Brigida (Mimì), Guglielmina and Gaetana. She came from a family deeply involved in politics. Her paternal grandfather, Guglielmo, was a liberal MP in Modica and her older sister Carolina would be Mayor of Caltagirone from June 1956 to February 1957. They also could count on the friendship of fellow countrymen and politicians Don Luigi Sturzo and Mario Scelba, leaders of the Democrazia Cristiana party.

Like any scion of noble family, she and her sisters were at first educated at home by tutors. She continued her education first in Florence, at Poggio Imperiale Boarding School, and later in Rome, at the College of Trinità dei Monti.

She returned to Caltagirone and in 1933 she married Doctor Filippo Buscemi Galasso. She would give birth to three daughters: Maricò, Ines and Cristina.

Ottavia was devout Catholic who put in practice her religious beliefs. During WW2, at her own personal risk, she secretly distributed butchered meat coming from her estates to poor people or (even worse) she smuggled wheat her fellow noblemen hid to resell to the black market and handed it over to the needy.

After the war, she would be elected as candidate of the Common Man's Front (a right-wing, monarchic and anticommunist shortlived Italian political party) during the General Election of 1946. This candidacy attracted critics from a large part of her fellow townsmen as well as somewhat affecting her relationship with her mother Ines, supporter of Democrazia Cristiana. The rift would later be mended thanks to the common monarchic sentiment.

Ottavia became then one of the 21 women elected as member of the Constituent Assembly and later included in the Commissione dei 75 (her fellow female colleagues were Maria Federici, Leonilde "Nilde" Iotti, Teresa Noce, Angelina "Lina" Merlin and substitute Angela Gotelli), a committee in charge of drafting the Constitution. Although she would soon resign from this position, she is nonetheless considered one of the Madri costituenti (Mothers of the Constitution).

On the occasion of the elections for the Presidency of the Republic, she was the only woman among the candidates. She received 32 votes and came third, after Enrico De Nicola and Cipriano Facchinetti.

Ottavia actively took part in the debates of the Constituent Assembly from march to december 1947, although never personally addressing questions nor intervening. She actually never mingled with the other female parliamentarians and was considered polite but rather aloof. At some point she was even accused by a colleague and fellow Qualinquista Ester Lombardo, of insulting remarks, but these offences weren't never proved so the Assembly decided not to proceed against her.

Ottavia was among those who wished to see the magistracy, as well as the judicial police, the prisons and the detention facilities as organs of the judicial power, as a mean to free them from political influence. This proposal would be later downvoted since the police and the prisons couldn't be considered on a par with magistracy, but were rather its auxiliaries in the administration of justice.

Being a staunch monarchist, in 1953 she was elected as a representative for the Monarchist National Party, and later, in 1958, she would become town councillor, finding herself politically opposed to her sister Carolina, a member of the Demochristian Party. The deaths of her husband and daughter Ines, added to a ever-increasing disappointment about national politics, led her to withdraw from the public life and she chose to find refuge in her family palace in Caltagirone. Despite everything, she never ceased to worry about the underprivileged. In a letter addressed to Minister Alcide De Gasperi, she suggested to establish a plan to rebuild infrastructures, houses and schools destroyed during the war. She was against simply handing out economical aids since "they would end up looking like alms and, to those who are really willing to work, that would be humiliating. [..] So, each province should gather its own funds and assign jobs linked to the public well-being and best suited to their own categories of unemployed people".

She also proposed to create shelters to host habandoned children, who would otherwise live on the streets and become delinquents and with the intent to teach these youngsters a trade, together with Father Quinci, she would found the association "La città del ragazzo" ("The Kid's City").

Ottavia died in her hometown on December 2nd 1986. Her funeral was attended by a large crowd made mostly out of common people.

9. start to finish, how long did it take you to write the last fic you posted?

Since I am currently working on chapter 9 of to eden I’ll do that, which has taken me a grand total of 8 weeks and 2 days to completion as I am finishing up last round of edits today so I can post either tonight or tomorrow 😅. A fast writer, I am not. HOWEVER I did also post two other fics in that 2 month period, which is a lot for me! Fingers crossed chapter 10 will take half the time that 9 did.

10. what is the longest amount of time you’ve let a draft rest before you finished it?

Oooh definitely the last fic I posted which was technically started back in may or June and not posted until a few weeks back. technically it was only like a 600 word draft though, so not like a whole story. 

20. in what year did you publish your first fic? This very year!!!! I posted my first ever fic back on January 12th ❄️💝

25. besides writing, what are your other hobbies? I arguably don’t have a ton of free time, which means that writing is kind of my only hobby. But recently when I have happened to have free time and am not writing I’ve been enjoying drawing again! procreate and I are still figuring our shit out, but we're getting there. I also watch Star Trek nightly with my husband, engage in excessive Pinterest activity, and have been playing a lot of love & deepspace in bed at night before i pass out

30. share a fic you’re especially proud of. The most recent one I posted, all my dreaming is put to shame. I never intended on it to reach the level of depth and emotion that it did and I’m pretty proud of that! I was also incredibly nervous about it as I wasn't really sure how it would resonate with readers, but it's turned out to be very well liked! I'm still responding to people's comments on it because everyone was so nice that I got a little flustered by all the praise (which is a good thing, everyone please fluster me more.) (Also proud of myself for channeling that same energy for chapter 9 of to eden so prepare yourself I guess 😌 haha)

//ONCE AGAIN I am sorry for the lack of writing lately! it's been an extremely difficult time, but I'm dying to write more regularly again! here are just a few things to keep in mind while I get back to it:

1. I am going to reply to all of my drafts, BUT if you feel that a thread has lost momentum in the time it has taken me to reply and you would like to drop it, I will not be offended! if you would like to instead start a new thread, just dm me or send a meme and we can do something new!

2. to cut my drafts down drastically, I am going to queue almost everything, bar my very oldest threads!

3. from the 2nd-12th june, my darling @sirserpentine is coming to stay!!! I am so so so excited!! of course, this means that over these ten days, I will likely be less active online - although I think we will have a few writing dates where we can go and hang out in my favourite coffee shop and do replies together and yap about our muses >:)

May 20th, 2024 - Sign-Ups Close 

After sign-ups close, no one else can join! No exceptions!

June 10th, 2024 - First Author Check-In 

Author’s will check in by midnight PST with a minimum of 1500 words written, as well as a summary for artists and betas.

June 12th, 2024 - Artist/Beta Summaries Released 

The artists and beta's are given a list of the author’s summaries, and have a week to make a list of their top five (or more!) that they’d like to make art for.

June 18th, 2024 - Artist & Beta Claims 

The artists and betas send in their lists of preferred fics and everyone is matched up! There may be multiple rounds of claims depending on the amount of people who’ve signed up, the ratio of artists to writers, and if any artists want to do art for more than one fic.

July 9th, 2024 - Second Author Check-In, First Artist & Beta Check-In 

Just like check-in one, but the artists and betas are here now! Authors will have a minimum of 3000 words written, betas will provide a list of edits/other support they've done, and artists should be able to provide at least a rough draft or other plan of what they’re making.

July 30th, 2024 - Third Author Check-In, Second Artist & Beta Check-In 

Authors will have a minimum of 4500 words written, artists should be making headway on whatever they are making, and betas should be editing! Now will be when we make promos for those who want them!

August 20th, 2024 - Final Check-Ins 

Authors should be finished or almost finished with their fics, artists should be finished or almost finished with their works, betas should be helping polish things up. The teams will give an estimate on how much longer they will need to complete/make posting date requests, and a schedule will be shared.

August 25th, 2024 - Posting Begins 

The first fic and its corresponding artwork will be posted on this day, and then there will be one fic posted a day until all fics have been posted!

NOTE: You may have noticed the wordcount is lower than it has been in previous years. As an experiment of sorts, we're going to be lowering the minimum wordcount from 10k to 6k per fic. You can still absolutely go over! But the idea is this may help us retain more people to the end. In the future, we may raise this number back up a bit!
