Theory on the beginning of the friendship narrative

It is closer than we think and everything is starting to line up perfectly for it to start this year.

Okay, so due to all of the things that have been going on lately, I was talking to one of my cousins who I accidentally turned into a larrie and we realized that things are starting to line up a bit too perfectly to officially start the friendship narrative this year.

To clarify, I do not think they are coming out this year (maybe Harry but not both of them together)

Keep in mind this is just a fun theory that would be, in my opinion, a great way for them to start this reconnection in the public's eye.

Also, my first lenguage is not English so I'm sorry if there's any mistakes here.

Let's start!

April: The brake up

This one is simple, I (and a lot of other people) think that by the end of this month, the Elounor BUA will be a reality. Why? simple, the pattern is repeating.

About a week ago (April 6th) we got these pap pictures of Louis all by himself in Paris. Some would say he looks upset, sad even, and maybe just a little bit hungover.

The last time we had gotten pap pics of him was when he was in New York with Eleanor for his LTWT shows there.

Also, in case you didn't know, it is illegal to take paparazzi pictures without the artist's permission in Paris, so these were definitely planned.

Now, our poor baby was alone in Paris the city of love, and coincidentally, it was that day that all his family decided that it would be a good idea to surprise him going to watch his show.

Mind you, of course, they all posted about it.

There were even some articles (written by the dailymail itself) that came out about it that talked about Lottie's baby. These articles used paparazzi pictures that were taken inside the venue in which Louis did his show. Which again means, planned.

Some would think it's a bit unnecessary because they are still going to watch him on his shows in England so why go so out of nowhere? I guess you could say that his sisters only found the perfect excuse to go shopping in Paris, or maybe they wanted to go and console their poor heartbroken brother, because if El and Louis were still together, surely she would've gone that day too, but she wasn't there.

In conclusion, I am sure that at some point this month we are finally getting a BUA.

May: Harry's House comes out.

Obviously, this month we are getting (finally) the album, and it will definitely be loud as hell. Just thinking about it makes me want to scream. We might also get another single but we'll see.

Over all I don't think much is going to happen this month (Larry related). Louis might get extremely loud on his Doncaster show and maybe, who knows one can dream, he could for the first time hold up a pride flag.

We'll see.

June: The reconnection.

This is the month that Harry starts his European leg of the Love On Tour and also the month that he will have his Wembley Stadium Shows, and this is where my theory starts.

Louis will have just a few shows this month, he will be finishing his center and south America leg of the tour but his last show will be on the 17th in Mexico city. After that, he doesn't have any shows until the 10th of July because his Ukraine and Russia shows have been canceled due to the conflict these countries are having. That would mean an almost one month long break in between the dates.

As we all know, Louis seems to love Mexico so it wouldn't be surprising for him to stay there for a while right? I mean, why would he want to immediately go back to London when he could just take a vacation? Well usually yeah, he would probably stay.

BUT, there's something we have to consider here. By this point, Lottie, his sister will probably be very close to give birth, that is if she hasn't done it already.

On Christmas of 2021, Louis tweeted:

Hope everyone’s had a good day! One of the best Christmas’ in a long time at our house! Sending love!

And on February 11th of 2022, Lottie announced her pregnancy to the world.

We believe that it was on that Christmas that Lottie and her boyfriend told everyone they were having a baby. And if we do the math it will be around this month that Louis will become an uncle. I'm definitely not crying.

He would definitely wanna be around when that happens, especially considering he's already missing most of her pregnancy, which makes me think he could go back to the UK as soon as possible.

So with all this considered I was thinking, what if now that Harry is doing two shows in Wembley all by himself (which is one of his biggest achievements as a solo artist yet) some of his band mates including probably Niall (who is in the eyes of the public the one he gets along the most with) and Louis go to see him?

Try to picture it, Harry is doing one of the most important shows of his career and Niall who is a close friend of Harry convinces Louis to go to the second show. Harry and Louis aren't really close obviously, but they have mutual respect for each other and Louis is free so, why not? This could be the reconnection.

Also I don't think Liam would be there because all four of them being in the same place at the same time seems impossible to me but who knows.

Clearly articles would come out because of Harry's ex band mates being there to support him and everyone would be excited about it, but there wouldn't be too much attention on the “reconnection” part yet. That will happen later on.

I can see Louis talking about it on an interview a few months later saying something like:

“Harry's show? Oh yeah. I wasn't even going to go! It was great though.

A few days before that I finished my south American leg of the tour and immediately came back to England because my sister was about to give birth to my beautiful nephew/niece and I wanted to be there.

When I got to London though it was way too late for me to drive all the way to Doncaster so I stayed there. Niall texted me and was like “oh you should come to Harry's Wembley show! It will be amazing!”, and I didn't really have anything else to do so I went.

I got there a bit late and missed the begging but it was really fun, and at the end I got to talk to him a little before going back to me house to sleep so I could leave to Doncaster in the morning.

Pretty cool yeah, good times, good times”.

It'll be super casual and almost accidental.

This is also pride month so yeah things will get Loud, Louis could post something relating to it which just thinking about it makes me wanna cry but let's not focus too much in that.

July: Not so much calm before the storm.

This month will be complete chaos.

At some points, Louis and Harry will have shows the same day so it will definitely be a lot for us but I don't think anything more than the common Larry chaos and casual bluegreening will happen.

The frenzy of an almost one direction reunion will naturally die down with other celebrity gossip ocuping the general public minds, but this will just be the beginning.

August: End of the stunt and beginning of a not-so-new beautiful friendship

Okay, now THIS my friends, will be a hell of a rollercoaster month, it could definitely mark history on the Larry organization and we we'll be having breakdowns almost every day.

During this month Louis will only have two shows for LTWT, and Harry will be taking a break to do the ‘Don't worry, darling’ press tour but that doesn't mean we we'll get a rest.

A lot of people have been theorizing lately that Harry and O will brake up in the middle of the press tour for the movie, why? because marketing speaking, it makes sense.

If they're smart, and they want to get the best out of this stunt, things could go like this:

Press tour starts, they do interviews and get asked about their relationship, “what was it like to film the movie while dating your co-star?” “how did you fall in love?”. They'll do all the juicy questions for good headlines.

They brake up in the middle of it, everyone is surprised and they could even fake canceling or doing some last minute changes on interviews because of it.

The second part of the press tour happens and they both seem sad, they get asked questions and act all sad about it or whatever.

Movie premier happens and either they look distant and try to avoid each other or they are amicable and everything is fine. let's hope it's the second bc if it's a messy break up they will most likely blame it on harry and we don't want that.

The movie comes out and it does great because of all the drama surrounding it.

Now, I don't think Harry will say much. At the beginning he might just use the excuse of “I don't like talking about my private life” or find a way to avoid the questions as he always does. And then when the break-up happens he'll say they are on good terms while acting all sad or whatever and everything will be fine.

Moving on from Harry, some people seem to have forgotten the fact that the AWFHF wasn't a one time occurrence.

Last year, Louis mentioned that it would be an annual thing and that it might happen in a different country this year.

It is most likely that the date for this year's festival will also be on August since he doesn't really have time to do it any other time before that and doing a festival in winter is not really a good idea. Remember how cold he was during the show? yeah, it is not happening after august.

So, what if Harry goes to this year's AWFHF? now that the pandemic restrictions are technically over, it wouldn't be too crazy to think that he might invite some of his friends to go watch him.

Here again we could have another 1d member going so it's not only Harry there, it could also be Niall or Liam.

If this happens, that's when articles about them reconnecting back in June when Louis went to Harry's show in Wembley could come out.

Just imagine it.

In conclusion, antis will be fuming this month.

The friendship narrative.

Of course, I think we all know what the friendship narrative is.

After august the narrative will start slowly and it will take a long time for it to get somewhere else but that's just how it goes.

Here's a list of things I think could happen to help maintain this narrative.

They wish each other happy birthday. Harry probably won't do it bc he usually doesn't use social media but he could still like a post about Louis' birthday or reply to a tweet from Louis with a “happy birthday, mate” or something like that. Louis could tweet something.

Harry meets Lottie's baby. Harry and Lottie always got along and that's a known fact so maybe at some point he could go meet her child and maybe she could post some stories about it. it will show that he is still close to Louis' family or whatever.

They support each other's project's. Louis could talk about Harry's movies especially my policeman and ofc they would support their music.

Interactions at award shows. Next year they will both have most probably already released stuff so when they get nominated and go to award shows they could interact and take pictures and all that.

Note: I think Harry could “come out” at some point soon but I don't see a world in which Louis comes out this year and less if they are both single and publicly “friends”.

What I think could happen is:

Harry breaks up with O and has some kind of “come out” this year. They start being friends and Louis is single but still in the closet and publicly a father.

Harry gets a boyfriend so they can be friends when Louis comes out.

Lou “finds out he is not a father” and is “absolutely heartbroken” about it while simultaneously Harry “breaks up” with his first public boyfriend and is also “heartbroken”.

“They help each other in these tough times and become each other's rock, eventually falling in love and the public noticing it happening”.

Everyone ships the hell out of them and “it is a bit difficult at first”, maybe with some drama involved to feed the tabloids before but “in the end they get together”.

The fake boyfriend thing helps “killing the rumors” of larry actually being a thing all along and just making everyone think that, while they have been shipped together since the beginning of their careers, they didn't really got together untill recently. They could say they kind of “always liked each other and never really did anything about it”, but they can not say they have been closeted this whole time.

Anyway yeah, this was my theory, it is a narrative they could follow. It might not be perfect and it won't happen exactly like this but it might go something like that.

I think everyone is just being too literal here. Seriously, does anyone know of any articles that literally says “they are close friends.” Nicki Swift is the only article I personally know that says something like that, but isn’t literally saying “they are close friends.”

I’m not sure why there were other people bring up Just Jared because I looked on there and the search results only indicate that the last time they mentioned Alejandra is the L.A. pap walk where they got lunch together. That’s it. Bustle mentions their previous pap walks, but that suddenly they’re not seen together after L.A.

I want to take a moment to talk about Kesha, Dr. Luke, and the situation between the two. I know this isn’t Drarry, so it’s not exactly what any of my followers are here to see exactly, but I believe this to be important. 

In October of 2014, Kesha sued her producer Dr. Luke - real name Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald - on the grounds of sexual, emotional, physical, verbal, and gendered abuse, specifically rape and forcing her into an eating disorder. The goal of the lawsuit was to no longer be forced to be physically around Dr. Luke or have him constantly looming over her and her work. She wants no association with him.

In retaliation to the lawsuit, Dr. Luke filed a counter-lawsuit on the grounds of defamation in attempts to break their contract, saying that she does not want a continuation of creative differences.

On the 11th of October, 2019, it was made public that she was denied to have her recording contract with Dr. Luke broken by the courts and that she was set to face trial next year. 

The DailyMail published an article that released this information with a statement directly from Dr. Luke’s lawyer, “Kesha and her representatives repeated her false accusation that Gottwald had purportedly drugged and raped her in countless public forums,” as well as that Kesha “spread a knowingly false and wholly defamatory accusation that Gottwald had purportedly raped another female recording artist.” On top of that, the article came with these quotes of previous statements by Dr. Luke within deposition(s):

As you can see, Dr. Luke has said that Kesha has not contacted any doctors or medical providers about the alleged forms of abuse she suffered prior to when she filed the lawsuit in 2014. He also directly states that Kesha is a liar, with some of his examples within the article being jokes that she had made, such as her saying Mick Jagger is her long-lost father.

With that, Dr. Lukes lawyer makes a statement about the supposed defamation Kesha is trying to cause, using the court documents of a conversation between Kesha and Lady Gaga about Katy Perry and rumors of sexual abuse as an example. 

However, I would like to touch upon a few things:

Dr. Luke stated that there would be no records of Kesha discussing the abuse she suffered to medical providers or doctors, yet there is--court documents (that Luke had fought to be made public) showed that Kesha discussed the abuse to her therapist in 2011 and 2012, three years before she sued him.

Usually, these would mean essentially nothing; someone thinking something isn’t the same as actually knowing it. It could’ve been possible that Luke said there would be no records because he genuinely believed it. However, he knew of these documents. He was the one fighting against Kesha to have these been made public. Dr. Luke had deliberately lied within the court of law, to lawyers, in order to push a narrative that Kesha was a liar. He knew of these therapy records and deliberately tried to manipulate the situation.

Not only were there discussions between Kesha and her therapist, but phone records were submitted to the court showcasing that Kesha had contacted multiple people as well as medical providers directly after the supposed assault.

With the phone records, there was also testimony by a handful of people saying Kesha called them after the alleged assault, distraught and confused, or that her mother had called her own friends, upset by what she just heard.

These are directly conflicting with Dr. Luke's statements of there being no history to back up Kesha's claims of contacting multiple people to report her abuse, something he seemed to be sure of. With that though, there’s still more:

Dr. Luke and his lawyer claimed that Kesha was the one to spread the rumor of Dr. Luke sexually assaulting Katy Perry in attempts for her to slander him and create more peer pressure to have Sony drop Luke and have the court break the recording/producing contract between Kesha and Luke.

Yet Dr. Luke had leaked the court transcript of the private conversation between Kesha and Gaga, something Kesha had expressed both after the fact and even within the transcript itself that it should stay private.

Luke and his lawyer are deliberately trying to paint Kesha as an awful person that was spreading an incredibly malicious rumor that Luke (and Katy) have said was not true. However, as you can see within the screenshots, the conversation between Kesha and Gaga was private and Kesha had objected to making the conversation public (as it was not her place to do so). It also shows that neither Gaga nor Kesha was the one to actually create the rumor either.

These texts were released on a very specific day, though--on the day these were released, just before the texts came out, an artist called ‘Becky G’ sued what is called ‘Core Water,’ claiming Dr. Luke forced her into an unwanted deal and was threatened that he would ruin her career.

With the counter-lawsuit still going on and being focused on something that wasn’t even Keshas doing but rather Dr. Lukes, as well as additional lawsuits against her and her family he has filed, it’s clear that he’s trying to drain her of her income due to speaking out--punish the victim, that’s a pattern he seems to have.

Firing lawsuit after lawsuit at someone in attempts to drain them of the money they have is a common tactic he has done whenever someone has spoken out against him reusing songs or stealing someone else's, or to anyone who details bad experiences with him.

Throughout the whole ordeal, Dr. Luke has stood by his defense of calling his own innocence, yet his lawyers have used common victim-blaming tactics that try to shift the blame (of a rape Luke swears never happened) onto the victim.

There has also been multiple testimonies detailing what they know about Kesha, what they know about Luke, and their professional relationship with Luke.

Lady Gaga testified that she had found Kesha in only her underwear in the backroom of Dr. Lukes studio and that she knew Kesha was going through trauma. 

Kelly Clarkson within a deposition that Luke was a habitual liar who rarely had women who wanted to work with him. She described her experience with him as “unpleasant.”

Sharon Osbourne has gone on to describe Dr. Luke as a “bully.” 

Monica Cornia, Keshas former manager, had said that while recording her second album, ‘Warrior,’ she would always want her around as she was scared of being alone with Luke.

P!nk has gone on record saying “he’s not a good person” in reference to Dr. Luke; allegedly she almost jumped him due to being so furious at learning that he recycled a previous song he worked on for the artists The Veronicas and used it for her. Since then, she’s refused to work with him.

Charli XCX has been outspoken even before the Kesha trial on her disliking towards him; it’s alleged that he body-shamed her, much similar to what he did to Kesha.

Avril Lavigne and P!nk and pink have both sworn within court that the reason they no longer collaborate with him on music is solely based on their own bad experiences with him.

Bebe Rexha came forward about a “terrifying” experience at Dr. Lukes house which left her in a bad state of anxiety, fearing she may be sexually assaulted. 

The American court system has failed, holding an assaulter in safety and protection while letting and encouraging that man to ruin the reputation and livelihood of his victim and possibly more. I have nothing more to say other than #FreeKesha and I hope she one day, hopefully in the not-so-distant future, gets the justice she deserves.

Out Of The Wood is About Harry Styles - Can We Turn It Into a Gaylors?

OOTW is an interesting song for me personally, esp. when I first heard the title. I think I speak for most queer when assuming that "out of the woods" is like someone saying "out of the closet - out of the mess".

I watched Ellen's interview, she too loved the song from this 1989 era.

Evenmore, I was intrigued by this Taylor's expression at the end of her singging OOTW in 1989 tour:

She looked very emotional, to my observation (Was there any correlation with OOTW or she was mere overwhelming with crowd appreciation?).

So yeah, I went due dilligent - and couldn't help not to go back to her 2014 Rolling Stone's Interview after reading OOTW lyrics: "Remember when you hit the brakes too soon. Twenty stitches in a hospital room"

Rolling Stone's quote:

The most interesting part comes when Swift sings, “Remember when you hit the brakes too soon/Twenty stitches in a hospital room.” She says it was inspired by a snowmobile ride with an ex who lost control and wrecked it so badly that she saw her life flash before her eyes. Both of them had to go to the ER, although Swift wasn’t hurt. She corrects herself: “Not as hurt.”

And dailymail had also covered the accident in their published article back in dec 2012 (OOTW lyrics "looking at it now. last December (last December)" looks legit):

Further, some mainstream media (even blind item) had this covered as well . OOTW is about Harry Styles - no longer a secret, it is a public consumption.

Nevertheless, I feel like something missing (but this is just me, though). Something just not add up properly, to my understanding.

In one hand, Taylor always asserts how she likes being single (doesn't really need to be desperately in love with boys) which is make sense - esp. she always try to present herself as feminist, ambitious, career-oriented type of woman. But why then, in the other hand, in OOTW, if it's about Harry, she depicted herself as a teenage girl who suffered for self-pity for not being able to have normal relationship - being famous as she is (they are). Furthermore, after mere few months in a relationship, she was still emotionally involved that she needed to write a song about it!?

Honestly, I've seen a paradox there.

Yes, she could be dating younger boy who happened to be a celeb like her, with public & media crawling all over them for a hot news - but was she that fragile?

To take this into my apprehension, I've decided to translate the song from different angle - just say - a bearding perspective:

Looking at it now. It all seems so simple. We were lying on your couch. I remember. You took a Polaroid of us. Then discovered (then discovered). The rest of the world was black and white. But we were in screaming color. And I remember thinking.

Are we out of the woods yet? Are we out of the woods yet?

The remaining lyrics, if taking from bearding perspective, very much the same like the conclusion from the above.

In another word, it could be seen as Taylor telling story about a relationship that basically a PR stunt (something that being forced thus very fragile at its core) - and how they both had to dance with its all - not being themselves (presumably gay - 'I've told you, I wanna turn this into Gaylors 😉')

Last but not least,

Remember when we couldn't take the heat. I walked out, I said, I'm setting you free.

To me that just scream a contract being ended.

Lol - too far reaching? Could be. But with a long bearding history in hollywood, anything still possible.

Afterall, it is so sad if turn out Taylor Swift, a brave woman who about to turn the male dominion in music industry to kneel down before her, nothing but a fragile girl who couldn't live single and always needed to be around a boy (mostly british & younger) - while at the same time acted as if like she is the victim of public scrutiny - yet paradoxically screaming "I am not serial dater! I want woman to be equally treated & appreciated just as a man!"

Well, I choose to believe the feminist Taylor Swift - who by now already comprehend the meaning of love - which is nothing close to teenage crush with a boy who still lived with his parent.

But I could be wrong? Oh yep.

Wishing all the fellow queers out there to be free and soon find a way to get OUT OF THE WOODS.

Welcome to my latest summary of recent news, resources & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & ecommerce! This covers articles I came across in the first part of October, although some may be older than that.

[I am out of town for nearly a week in late October, so don’t expect another update until the end of the month at the earliest.]

TOP NEWS & ARTICLES 

14 elements that will help your product pages get sales. Trust badges & reviews can really make a difference. Also, here’s a really simple explanation of how your descriptions should try to sell the product: “Bridge the gap between features and benefits: A feature is essentially a fact about your product or offer. The benefit mainly answers how a feature is useful for your customer. Tell them exactly “how” a particular feature is useful for them, and “why” they should make this purchase. Product descriptions that bridge the gap between features and benefits can lessen buyer’s guilt and ease the buying decision.” 

It’s time for holiday season forecasts! Halloween spending is expected to be steady. While some are predicting up to a 4-5% increase in US November-December retail spending this year, others are worried about consumer debt. There is still “a stubborn wealth gap in the United States that appears to be once again worsening and in fact is "the biggest it’s ever been." The Gini index, a standard economic measure of income inequality, for the U.S. in 2018 was "significantly higher" than 2017, after widening steadily for the last 50 years, according to a Sept. 26 report from the U.S. Census Bureau.” Note that online retailers are finding that the holiday season is less crucial than it used to be, since people shop online all year now. “...the holiday season accounted for almost 24% of all retailers’ sales in the late 1990s, but is closer to 21% today.” Finally, “A late Thanksgiving this year, falling on Nov. 28, means there are six fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas than in 2018. In fact, 2019 is the shortest possible holiday calendar scenario”.[emphasis added by me]

Kansas state tax collection on online sales is in question after the lack of a minimum on revenue or orders is criticized. The dictate kicked in October 1st, requiring any business selling anything in the state to register, which didn’t exempt small businesses as other states have done. This is important - if they manage to apply this tax to even the smallest businesses, and win any court challenges, other states are likely to follow suit. 

ETSY NEWS 

Etsy released a new stats page last week, which like most things they do these days, isn’t finished yet. You can read the announcement here, and a more detailed explanation here, including a discussion of the conversion rate numbers now provided. [I don’t find those very useful on Etsy, as I find I get a lot of visits that are not from buyers, such as people checking out my SEO.] Also note that there will be a Q & A thread this week in the forum, starting October 14th at 10 am EDT. 

When a listing is clicked from any search, there is now a link at the top saying “Back to search results” which only goes to page one of the search on Etsy, not the page you were on. It even does this when someone clicks on your item from a search of your shop. 

They made some recent improvements to the buyer app, including integrating shop names into the regular search. No need to tag with your exact shop name! (Mobile & desktop search also work the same way; the app was the last hold out.)

More holiday marketing tips continue to roll out, including this one on merchandising. It includes a list of holidays at the end (although Canadian Thanksgiving was just 5 days away on the date of publication, so that seems to have been a waste of space). Potentially more useful to some of us is the transcript of the podcast on shopper behaviour during the holidays. [includes links to the podcast if you would rather listen] “9% of our buyers do the bulk of their shopping in late December right before the holidays” and “On Etsy specifically, searches around the holidays spike for gifts in conjunction with a descriptor of the recipient. We see searches like “gifts for grandma,” “gifts for boyfriend,” and “unique gift for a friend” spike.” Finally, “In terms of uniqueness, 90% of Etsy buyers would rather give a unique or one-of-a-kind gift.” They also cover some specific research on holiday shopping patterns in the UK & Germany, compared to the US. 

There is a new help file on search called Beginner’s Guide to Etsy Search, and while it is up to date, I am not sure why it is needed, when they already have a page (they even link to it) called “How Etsy Search Works”, which isn’t as up to date. If they are planning on releasing new instructions, as they told me months ago, they are going about it really, really slowly. 

Etsy Ireland lost money last year, apparently due to the DaWanda deal. “Etsy, whose mission is to “keep commerce human”, faced a wave of criticism from users after designating its business in Ireland as an unlimited liability company in 2015 so that it didn’t have to publicly disclose financial information about the unit. The company has, however, published annual accounts for the subsidiary for both 2017 and last year.”

Meanwhile, free shipping & Etsy Ads have produced quite a stock boost for the main company. “KeyBanc’s comments were echoed by Canaccord Genuity, which earlier this week wrote that the company’s initiatives were driving “robust growth and improving profitability.” Analyst Maria Ripps called free shipping “an important step in bringing Etsy’s platform closer to par” with other e-commerce leaders like Amazon.com Not only will free shipping improve “consumer perception around the platform,” but she estimated that it could add upside of 3%-5% upside to 2020 estimates for both revenue and adjusted Ebitda. The company’s Etsy Ads initiative, she added, “should ultimately attract high affinity customers with strong repeat purchase behavior.”  Also, they noted that no major analysts no recommend selling the stock - most say “buy”, with a few saying “hold”. 

Etsy partnered with Blackrock Emergency Savings Initiative to help US sellers deal with the financial pressures of self-employment. 

SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES 

Google’s advice on how to get your category pages to rank well is worth reading: among other things, you shouldn’t keyword stuff. 

If you want your content to get the featured “0” position at the top of Google search, you should check out this article on featured snippets, or this Whiteboard Friday from Moz. [video & transcript]

More analysis of Google’s September core update shows that it may not have been as dramatic as the June update, but “your money, your life” (YMYL) sites still seem the most affected. SEMRush said the biggest winners were “DailyMail, eBackPage.com, lasd.org and marionschool.net. The biggest losers were TheFourMusic.com, Monks.org, BraidingClub.com, PascoLibraries.org and RoyalCaribbean.com.au.” Other case studies saw a lot of change in health and medical sites. 

Another study states that websites still get most of their traffic from organic search. 

If your own website isn’t ranking on Google, there are numerous fixable reasons, although some are more difficult than others. 

Google says that HTML sitemaps aren’t necessary to good SEO. 

If you are getting less organic traffic to your Patreon page recently, that could be because their SEO team accidentally de-indexed the entire site. It’s been fixed, but it could affect some pages for the next few weeks, if Google doesn’t recrawl you right away. 

YouTube is the 4th most visited website, so improving your YouTube SEO can provide a huge boost in traffic. 

CONTENT MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA (includes blogging & emails) 

Facebook’s experiment on hiding like counts has rolled out in Australia. (Articles looks at the sociological studies behind this)

Instagram launched an account posting tips for “creators”, which the author notes does not focus on making money off of that content. 

They have also expanded their Shopping part of the app, however, which is about making money. 

And IG has released a Snapchat challenger called Threads, a standalone app run by Facebook. Techcrunch did a more detailed review & analysis. Right now, it doesn’t have any ads & they say they have no plans to add them. 

Hubspot uses their own Snapchat account experience as a case study in how to make Snap work for business. (includes video & step-by-step instructions, if you are new to Snapchat.)

Twitter and Tweetdeck had a bad outage for several hours October 1-2, and it still isn't clear what happened. 

If you use Twitter for your business, you should also be using Twitter lists. (I use Tweetdeck to organize mine.)

Now that it is working again, here are the best-performing hashtags on Twitter over the past few years. 

ONLINE ADVERTISING (SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL MEDIA, & OTHERS) 

Hubspot’s comprehensive guide to Google Ads is completely up to date for all new developments, and covers search ads as well as ads across Google’s network. [video and text]

They also put out a Facebook ad checklist, with video, text & screenshots.

Research and ad placement are key to getting better conversion from Facebook ads. 

Gen Z (younger than millennials) don’t yet have full purchase strength as a cohort, but they influence buying in their households after seeing ads on Snapchat. Since Gen Z shows the least brand loyalty of any generation, it's necessary to reach them in new ways.

Shopify now has an integration with Microsoft Ads, which include all Verizon properties (Yahoo, AOL). More than 116 million Americans use Bing searches each month in some way. 

LinkedIn has improved its ad tools, including audience forecasting. 

Quora has improved ad targeting; they say they have over 300 million monthly users. 

STATS, DATA, OTHER TRACKING 

Advanced tips for site search in Google Analytics can get more out of the data than you thought was there.  

Facebook will likely be paying out $40 million to settle a lawsuit for grossly overreporting video watching stats, including video ads. 

Google Search Console is now reporting a lot fewer links for websites than in the past; it’s not clear if this is a bug or not.

ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS 

If you use abandoned cart emails on your website, make sure they are optimized for conversions. 

Ecommerce fraud rates are definitely increasing. “... digital goods have seen such an increase in fraud because they often have a streamlined purchase process that requires less information than other items.”

Google launched its new Shopping pages, which is not the same as Google Shopping but is connected to it, and allows buyers to check out on Google rather than retailer websites. 

Amazon apparently surveyed Handmade sellers recently asking how they felt about Amazon Handmade.

Will Amazon face consequences in the US for its competitive activities? It’s looking more likely now. “Bloomberg reported in August that Amazon was dropping sellers' products in searches on its site if they priced a product cheaper on rival sites, behavior the news service noted could draw antitrust scrutiny.”

BUSINESS & CONSUMER STUDIES, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE 

We all have difficult customers occasionally - here are 9 tips on how to deal with them. 

While most web browsing happens on mobile, desktop users are still way more likely to buy. They also spend more than mobile buyers. 

Gen Z members plan on doing most of their holiday shopping in physical shops this year (just like baby boomers), but many will do research online first. Also, “Forty-two percent of shoppers said that low prices are the top motivator for making purchases and 31% said free shipping was also a shopping incentive.”

Offering fewer options can lead to more sales. (The article has great suggestions on different ways to use this info.)

MISCELLANEOUS 

Vimeo app Magisto is facing a class-action lawsuit over holding biometric data without the owners’ permission.

Haven’t heard much about the EU privacy law lately? It turns out that businesses that are GDPR-compliant are more successful than those that are not. The shocker is that only 28% of the companies surveyed were actually completely compliant, so this may be correlation and not causation. Also, the results were self-reported, so maybe not that accurate. 

Here’s a decent list of free website builders, but I strongly suggest doing your own research on any that sound good, as the writeup isn’t very detailed. (The Etsy forum is a very good place for some of this research, as you can ask very specific questions of people who probably have similar needs to yours.)

Chrome is going to block embedded content that isn’t from an https site, beginning in December. [if your website isn’t yet https, get on that right away - it is going to become more & more crucial for being seen.]

Is the Media still removing negative articles about Emma? I cant imagine why this girl still isn’t being called out. So people/her fans are okay with her traveling during Covid? When she acted hypocritical and told people to stay home Bc she was? And the kering meetings that she didn’t even bother to go to. She hasn’t been working or posting to Instagram so it looks like she gave up on that. She posts up her private acc, she is clearly still in the platform. But friends > fans, I guess. Does she still want to be famous??

It’s probably due time for another feltson bait post haha. If her come-back post is something involving Tom, people may be too happy that they forget to call her out for disappearing for a year. Maybe they can time it with his book release and get even more news coverage. I know Tom has a play rn and other hp co-stars have gone. Maybe she can go see it and support him. Win-win. I’ve rarely seen her support another hp costar and they get feltson coverage

The vacation articles from the DailyMail were removed. It had gotten a lot of negative responses. But for the rest people don't really bother. A lot of people didn't hear about the Kering thing and those who have just make excuses for her. I don't think we'll hear about her and HP for a while after the reunion.
