A lot has gone into the cultures and politics of each of the countries our characters come from. Enough so that it doesn't make sense to get into all of it on an introductory post! But perhaps later in a reblog.

THE STORY SO FAR…

As of the writing of this post, we have now played 5 sessions of the campaign.

Our party all met each other in the small seaside town of Plumeport, Crimyria. We were all brought together in pursuit of the same thing: a legendary man-eating boar, said to hold the power of immortality.

It is believed that consuming the flesh of this boar would grant eternal life, and even just a bit of its fur or blood can extend a person's life, for a time. The King of Crimyria himself has offered whoever can take down this boar a large sum of wealth and a small offering of its blood for personal consumption. He wants the job to be done in time for the Crimyrian Festival of Flight, in a couple months time.

The bounty on the boar's head has drawn adventurers from all over the continent, but none so far have been able to take it down. Many have lost their lives. While each of our party members have their own reasons for wanting to take on this job, Kwan has a very personal stake in their success.

He has, reluctantly, revealed that he once knew the boar before it obtained the power it has today. He has reason to believe it has swallowed something once known as a centurion pearl: a powerful artifact that caused the fall of a once great kingdom, and threw the continent into tumultuous conflict. Kwan is adamant that this power should not be handed over to any king. Once it is killed, they want to extract the pearl from its body to make sure it can never fall into the wrong hands.

So far, Kwan has only revealed this to Revun. Polites, meanwhile, works directly under the king and wants to succeed on this mission to make him proud. Ferra seems to only be interested in the money and adventure. Revun has also said they were in this for the money, but vaguely admitted to Kwan that they also had their own personal reasons to go after the boar, and if he truly believes its power is too dangerous, they will follow his lead.

Once faced with the boar, however, the party was unprepared and outmatched. It was massive, its eyes as large as their heads, emanating a golden glow. It moved unlike a normal animal, and seemingly bore a higher level of intelligence than it should.

After a deceptively strong start, Polites went down in battle, and they were all forced to run to ensure everyone's survival. Before retreating though, Kwan shot the boar with a strange arrow, claiming they would be able to track it again later.

The party camped outside of the marsh, unable to sleep while waiting for Polites to wake up. They discussed next steps- going back to the city to regroup, get proper healing, and perhaps find a sponsor to help them in their next try. They still have a few weeks to get things figured out.

And that's all, so far! We're all pretty stoked and making tons of art and written works, so keep a look out, we might publish a zine when the sessions start wrapping up. Bye-bye, for now!

Profiles in Villainy 

Maximillion Pegasus

Eccentric, ruthless, frequently histrionic, Maximillion Pegasus (sometimes known as Pegasus J. Crawford) was the founder and president of Industrial Illusions as well as the creator of the game of Duel Monsters.  

Pegasus beloved fiancé had died in a tragic accident and he became obsessed with efforts to bring her back to life.  Having learned of the powerful Millennium Items, Pegasus designed the Dual Masters game, crafting the cards based on ancient Egyptian iconography.  This was all part of a scheme to draw out and obtain the magical totems (and the souls needed to fuel them) which he would then use to resurrect his lost love.  

Aided by his skills, his knowledge and a good deal of cheating, Pegasus was able to accrue a number of powerful cards and Millennium Items, as well as the souls of various participants he had obtained through victory.  Yet he underestimated young Yugi Muto and was ultimately defeated.  

Actor Jiro Jay Takasugi voiced Maximillion Pegasus in the original anime; with Darren Dunstan voicing the character in the English language dub.  The villain first appeared in the premiere episode of Yu-Gi-Oh!, airing on April 18th, 2000.

Whirling Mummy One-shot

Have been deathly ill for most of this month, with barely the focus to do anything. So I've been in the dumps.

Last Wednesday I ran a one-shot for my regular TTRPG group, just to feel like I could do something---anything. I didn't have much of a voice. Just a low rasp. So all my characters that night were kinda husky, sultry folks, the kind you might find in a bar.

Apopros to the game, I suppose. I ran the Whirling Mummy, a dance-hall adventure I created for Prismatic Wastelands' ENNIE-winning bar-crawl campaign setting, Barkeep On The Borderlands:

THE WHIRLING MUMMY Madam Smiling is the never-seen proprietress of The Whirling Mummy, an undead-themed dance hall, named after Madam Smiling's ancient, still-animate consort. + Before the Keep, before goblins lived in caves – a goddess cursed a king to dance. He danced all night, he danced all season. He danced and he died. They buried him dancing. He danced in his tomb of jade mosaic. A quake split the Iron Fens, and cracked his tomb, and spat him out dancing. Tonight, in the mummy's honour: a dance-off! Various crews compete to win their hearts' desire. There has never been a wish Madam Smiling could not grant.

Got my players to make characters using Barkeep's evocative background packages. The party:

Frederick the Foppish Dandy, with a big hat, dueling pistol, and a wealthy fiance called Giorgio ("Georgie!");

Alejandra the Ebullient Dancer, with a tambourine, vial of poison, and her patron the noble chanteuse Lady Gaga;

Melan the Troubled Musician, with a flute, a cymbal-playing pet monkey, and a broken heart.

Serendipitously appropriate, for an adventure featuring a dance contest!

Melan decides they have history with Kril Mouser, leader of the club's musicians.

Ironically, Alejandra spends her whole night off the podium, gassing up the crowd to win over their support.

Frederick ("Freddie!") plays out a rivalry with one of competing dance crews: a trio of voguing toffs.

Freddie ends up being the night's star dancer. "This is the kind of music Frederick plays in his room," his player says:

I rolled a new event for every turn / round of the dance-off, for maximum shenanigans:

A skeleton flapper loses her head on the dance floor. The Dancer turns that skull into a ball the cheering crowd can bounce around. Poor skelly!

A gang of electric-lute-wielding bards storm Kril Mouser's band stage in an attempt to take it over. Melan spends the round fighting them off, earning the musicians' favour. (Alejandra throws her skeleton skull, knocking a bard out.)

A paladin raid on the club for illegal necromancy. This coincides with the last round of the dance-off; Freddie is too drunk to continue, so Melan takes the stage, and duels Master Mocking Of A Million Eyes, the peacock demon and final boss.

Melan's player describes their dance as "Lizzo with a flute, but while performing a Celine-Dion-like ballad".

So the party won the dance-off. They are entitled to wishes from Madam Smiling.

Frederick asks to be the richest person in the world;

Alejandra wants to retroactively swap places with her patron Lady Gaga;

Melan selflessly asks for land back for the indigenous lizardfolk. (The industrial district in which the Whirling Mummy sits used to belong to the lizard-people; there were lizard nuns handing out pins outside the club.)

I was very pleased with this game. I think it was my first successful, self-contained one-shot? We played for about three hours, and I felt buoyed by endorphins after.

I love my players. Thank you Am, Ai and Vesha for playing with me; you have kept my love for this game stuff alive.

I lost my voice again, the next day.

Final scene, one year later:

Melan is the opening act for a concert by Lady Alejandra, in a city ruled by Prince Frederick the First.

All of this happens a continent away; the city in which Barkeep is set has been totally erased. A trade agreement has been signed with the lizardfolk queendoms, however---and ambassadors report an incongruous-looking dance hall, in the middle of the marsh.

Inside, it is said, a mummy in jade shoes endlessly dances. Inside, it is said, a dance contest is held, and its prize is whatever your heart desires.

I just had a fun Miraculous AU idea (got inspired by a book i saw in Wattpad);

Yu-Gi-Oh Miraculous Vrians!

I don't mind if people make artwork or write their own fan fiction of this. As long I'm credited for the original AU idea. I also posted this on DeviantArt.

In this AU, the kwamis are a special type of AI programming that is also called the "Miraculous Ignis". These AIs were secretly created by a third party during the Lost Incident. But when Professor Wang Fu (aka Master Fu) learns that these AIs were going to be used for evil purposes, he stole them from their creators and went into hiding. Fu managed to steal all the Miraculous Ignis', except for the Butterfly and the unfinished Peacock Ignis', which went missing during the theft.

10 years later, Gabriel Agreste uses the Butterfly Ignis to become the hacker terrorist known as Hawk Moth, who hopes to use the rest of the Miraculous Ignis' to waken his comatose wife, who used the Peacock Ignis too much without knowing it was incomplete. To lure out the Miraculous Ignis, Hawk Moth would hijack people's avatars in LINK VRAINS and turn them into his own mind controlled super villians. Also, to accomplish his goals, both Gabriel and his assistant, Nathalie Sancoeur, secretly infiltrate the hacker terrorist group called "The Knights Of Hanoi" under the codenames "The Collector" and "Catalyst". In hopes of not only finding the Miraculous Ignis, but to capture the original six Ignis' as well.

Meanwhile, Professor Fu decides to give the two most powerful Miraculous Ignis', the Ladybug and Cat, to Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste. They become LINK VRAINS' newest heroes, Ladybug and Cat Noir, who help the hero, Playmaker, fight against both both Hawk Moth and the Knights Of Hanoi.

Other details of the AU (with spoilers of Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains);

The Kwamis Ignis have the same type of body design as the original Ignis', but they still have their animal fixtures. For example, the Cat Ignis would still have his cat ears, tail, and green cat eyes. While the Ladybug Ignis have her red body with black spots (and maybe ladybug wings on her back). They also have the same personalities as in the Miraculous Ladybug series canon.

Similar to the Miraculous Ladybug series canon, every Kwami Ignis are kept in their own jewelry shaped electronics, which connect to the holder's duel disk by Bluetooth. The holder's duel disk also changes form when they log into LINK VRAINS (which helps hide their identities).

The Miraculous Ignis have their own separate animal theme Cyberse cards. For example, the Ladybug Ignis has a ladybug theme Cyberse monster cards, and the Cat Ignis has a cat theme Cyberse monster cards.

The Miraculous Ignis gives their holders the same powers/abilities as in the Miraculous Ladybug series canon. These powers can also be used as skills in a LINK VRAINS speed duel.

Also, like in the Miraculous Ladybug series canon, Hawk Moth can only akumatize people who are filled with negative emotions/thoughts. Plus, they have to have their own duel disk and deck.

People who are not logged into or even don't have an account in LINK VRAINS can still be akumatized.

In this AU, the akuma enters a person's duel disk as a virus and always goes into a person's ace monster card. While their super villain avatar takes form similar to their ace monster. That person's deck is also transformed when they become akumatized.

Marinette still dreams of becoming a fashion designer. While as a duelist, she doesn't have too much confidence in her skills. Marinette is the only one of her friends who doesn't have a LINK VRAINS account (not until she became Ladybug, but no one else knows that). When she's not using the Ladybug Cyberse deck, she owns a fairy type desk.

Adrian is still a fashion model for his father famous fashion brand in both Den City and sometimes in LINK VRAINS. Adrian enjoys dueling but doesn't have much time to do it for fun because of his career. When he's not using the Cat Cyberse deck, he owns a warrior type deck.

Marinette and Adrien (plus their friends/classmates in the Miraculous Ladybug series canon) go to Den City High School. And are in the same class as Yusaku Fujiki (aka Playmaker). Their class teacher is Miss Bustier from Miraculous Ladybug.

Ladybug and Cat Noir doesn't know the true identity of Playmaker. And Playmaker doesn't know their true identities either.

Yusaku/Playmaker didn't really trust Ladybug and Cat Noir at first. And didn't want them to become part of his fight against the Hanoi. But Playmaker later began working with them when he realized he wouldn't be able to fight both the Hanoi and Hawk Moth's akumatized villains.

The Knights Of Hanoi had no knowledge of the existence of the Miraculous Ignis until Hawk Moth started to attack LINK VRAINS with his akumatized villains.

The Hanoi also wasn't aware of The Collector actually being Hawk Moth, not until in episode 38 and 39 when Hawk Moth tried to take control of the Tower of Hanoi by akumatizing Revolver (the leader of the Hanoi).

Ryoken Kogami/Revolver managed to learn the true identities of Ladybug and Cat Noir but agrees to keep the secret after meeting Professor Fu.

Remember that post of Kirby game meets anime ideas? Well here comes the sequel!!! Ideas for Anime x Game Kirby crossovers 2!

1-the history is how grand doomer goes to the anime dimension after he’s defeat on Magolor’s hands in “Magolor’s epilogue”, and ends up trying to chase down Magolor when he jumps into the portal to the clash universe but since he’s too weak he falls unconscious mid travel and ends up in the anime dimension, he finds how this universe despise lacking strong sources of energy they still have artifacts strong Enough to give him power, specially from nightmare enterprises leftovers which he uses to power hes doomer army, he quickly goes to dreamland to get revenge on Kirby now that he has he’s power and army once again he goes on a full on attack on pop star. He absorbs Galaxia meanwhile the Doomers shatter the warp star to absorb its power, kirby tries to stop Grand doomer but the villain sends the puffball,tiff,tuff,meta knight,king dedede and escargoon into “another dimension” in which they are aided by not only the elemental bosses (Electriky Dooter, Fiery puffer and Hydriat) which now don’t work for grand doomer since he has lost the power of the master crown, but they also meet the parallels (Susie,meta knight,dedede,kracko,Landia and wispy) and now the heroes (and anime!dedede) aided by the three elemental monster have to collect the fragments of the apple which are being held hostage by the parallels (which are on a war for “another dimension” since the doomers left to conquer the anime dimension) and unlock their own elemental powers (tiff & tuff:fire/rock, meta knight:Ice/water and Dedede & Escargoon:thunder/air meanwhile Kirby learns to handle the super ability’s) after they get the apples they go back to dreamland and see how grand doomer has basically destroyed the entire place and turned dedede’s castle into he’s floating nest meanwhile the GSA has basically been running from the beings beyond their retconing, however now our heroes defeat all the Doomers and fix the Warp Star so they can get into dededes castle and Kirby can defeat Grand doomer once again. Now Kirby has learned to fight for himself, meta knight learns there’s much to learn from the universe, tiff and tuff now have magic and so does dedede and Escargoon which will try harder than ever to be a annoyance to Kirby even without nightmare

2-starts with galacta knight which was defeated by yet another Kirby and another meta knight of the multiverse, so he’s banished to yet another universe but this time he finds himself on the middle of a battle field with no pink puffball or blue knight anywhere. He sees knuckle joe being attacked by a bunch of monsters (including masher 2) and he easily kills the demon beasts with a single attack, he prepares to fight knuckle joe but the kid instead thanks him calls him star warrior, galacta knight is confused by this and sees how other knights appear, he prepares to fight but they call him “partner” which confuses him even more, galacta hasn’t been treated has a ally since he and he’s partners sealed void termina, he decides to tag along and sees he’s in a war once again and to the same guy he killed a week ago (a week for him since time stopped existing for him since dimensional travel also involves some time travel), the leaders of the GSA (whoever you use, Arthur or anyone else) then discover galacta isn’t a registered member and interrogate him, galacta think they are going to attack him so he prepares to kill then all but they instead offer him to join for he’s massive power, he accepts. Galacta quickly becomes a very beloved and well known warrior, he’s usually followed by knuckle joe which speaks to him while galacta constant duels with other Star warriors, everything is normal till joe mentions Kirby and meta knight, galacta quickly asks where is pop star and then he goes to beat the ever living Stars of the two. Meta knight is confused by who is this and why he’s attacking them but realizes this Kirby and meta knight are weak and can’t even face a 1% of he’s power like the other meta knights and Kirby’s, he decides to train Kirby to unlock the power he remembers, galacta quickly shows he’s not good at talking, or teaching or interacting which makes him have a bad relationship with everyone but Kirby which treats him like any Kirby would (with hugs and friendship) and knuckle joe (who constantly visits him) has time goes Galacta starts liking more this life still thinking he can get he’s old life style before he was betrayed, but this dream suddenly crashes when the GSA members are ordered to arrest him, he goes on a rampage thinking he was betrayed once again but kirby and knuckle joe get hurt making galacta even more furious and miserable, he flies to the edge of the galaxy and has nightmare enterprises attacks dreamland like in “fright to the finish” knuckle joe and Kirby decide to go for Galacta knight meanwhile Meta and the rest try to attack nightmare with the rest of the GSA but they are bombarded by A FAKE galacta knight which framed the real knight. Kirby and knuckle joe get to galacta which try’s to push them away using a small fraction of he’s power but the kids tell him despite everything they think he’s innocent and beg for he’s help, galacta decides to help and the three go to save the gang. Galacta sees he’s copy and has a small fight since he really wanted one but stops playing once he sees the kids are getting near nightmare, Galacta turns into Aeon hero Light and one shots he’s doppelgänger and goes to save the kids, tiff tells galacta he can’t kill eNeMe since he’s connected to Kirby’s dreams and they don’t know what will happen if nightmare dies while connected to kirby, so galacta rages because of this which causes a hole in the fabric of reality, kirby quickly defeats eNeMe on he’s dreams and wakes up which allowed Galacta to destroy nightmare with all of he’s power which let yet another hole in the fabric of reality, all of them escape while Galacta now with he’s name cleaned is treated has a hero once again, the story ends with him sleeping on a hill on dreamland with Kirby while several butterfly rest on them as well

3-Kirby is fighting a monster able to create portals which makes Kirby gets the Spark ability, the two fight but Kirby accidentally makes the monsters powers go south turning one of the portals into a kind of vacuum which absorbs tiff and tuff. The two end up in Halcandra, Tiff and tuff walk around trying to find anyone who could help them but tuff accidentally gets trapped into the main factory, Tiff goes to save him has the robots and various other hazards try to kill them, they survive and run into a elevator which brings them to the boss of the place “metal general” which isn’t holding he’s punches with this two and before the kids are killed by the robot, landia appears and calms the general telling them they are kids, the robot after noticing this goes back to sleep, tuff is amazed by the cool dragon while tuff is scared of the giant dragon, however landia is very kind has they separate in four and two of them invite tiff and tuff to ride them, the kids get on the dragons and fly to the top of Dangerous Dinner. Tuff talks about how cool this all is meanwhile Tiff is scared about this place, soon they arrive to landias lair, Tiff and Tuff rest for a bit while tiff try’s to talk with the dragon which seems to ignore her, the next morning they are guided to a star shaped portal which goes to popstar (results landia was hearing but just wanted to have some company that night), the kids and the dragon jump into the portal, the kids are now amazed by this fantastic place which seems so familiar yet so different, like a dream! They arrive to magolorland and are weird out by the several demon beasts acting like normal people, a younger looking wispy, a genie, a monkey, a puffer fish and a giant ship all around the park while thousands of waddle dees and other habitants of dreamland the kids have never seen wear masks of many strangers and some familiar faces, landia asks Magolor to call Kirby meanwhile the kids play the games with the other habitants of dreamland. When Kirby and the rest arrive there’s a small shock by the Friendly dedede,the waddle dee with a bandana on escargoon a place, meta knight wings and Kirby not knowing them (or actually everyone) Magolor and meta knight quickly figure out what’s happening and help the kids go back to their dimension, but not before one last game through all of Magolor land, Has they return to their dreamland they are welcomed by a kirby and parents that are almost in tears, a dedede with a black eye (Kirby’s doing) and a very surprised meta knight (not because they lived but for the giant flying ship and the dragon) after a small presentation of their alternates the heroes of dreamland, the dimensional magician and the ex-guardian of the master crown retire back to their world meanwhile the kids tell their parents about their adventure (note landia doesn’t talk but Magolor and Metal general can just speak dragon-ish)

Leander: *snickers* Maybe if I lift you just high enough...

Poppy: *Blushes* Put me down! *Casts* Expelliarmus!

Leander: *Dodges and stops the levioso cast*

Poppy: *Hit the ground* URGH! Prewitt you dog! What the bloody hells the matter with you?!

Leander: *Shrugs* I dont know what your talking about. *Smirks*

*The whole class starts to snicker*

Poppy: *gets up and fixes her skirt* You know damn well!

Leander: Dont be a sore loser poppy its not my fault you weren't able to deflect a simple levioso cast. Although I must say..*walks closer to poppy* I did enjoy our little duel *sly grin*

Poppy: *enraged* Next time I wont hold back.

Leander: *Snickers* Keep dreaming.

*Natty and Mc watching the whole thing in shock*

Poppy looks at Mc, confused and worried as the class watches their interaction in anticipation*

Sebastian: *Mutters* 20 seconds? Now this I gotta see.

Ominis: *furrows brows* Is that the new fifth year? Is that even possible?

Sebastian: *chuckles* We're about to find out.

Prewitt observes the class who clearly expects him to take the challenge

Prewitt: *Huffs* You're on. Dont expect me to go easy on you just because you're the new 5th year.

Mc: *Grins* I am counting on it.

*Mc walks up to the dueling ground as poppy stops her*

Poppy: Look, I appreciate the gesture but against Leander?! Even if he is a jerk, he's a pretty decent duelist.

Mc: *snorts* Id hardly call what he just did decent.

Poppy: *embarrassed * I-I know-

Mc: *Squeezes poppy hands* Which is why he needs a lesson in manners, now sit back and enjoy the show.

Poppy: * Smiles* Dont rough him up too much, as much as Id like him in the infirmary right now I dont want you to get in trouble.

Mc: No promises *smirks*

Poppy: *chuckles*

Natty: * Worried* Poppy, are you alright?

Poppy: *Nods* I'm..okay

Natty: *Nudges her shoulder* Just watch, this is about to be good.

Mc steps onto the dueling table and faces Leander

Hecat: Duelists, you may begin!

Leander: *Casts* Glacius!

Mc: Protego.

18 seconds.

Leander: *Casts* CONFRINGO!

MC: Protego.

Leander: Oh come on MC! I expected better! *feral grin*

Prewitt: *Scoffs* Should've bet 30 galleons if this is how its gonna go. BOMBAR-

Mc: *Flicks her wand* Levioso.

Leander: *Exclaims* WHOA!

Prewitt starts to levitate off the ground completely at mc's mercy as she swishes her wand higher, his back almost touching the cieling..

Natty: Goodness! She certainly mastered levioso!

Poppy: *Gasps*

Prewitt: What the- DAMN YOU! *Casts* Bombarda!

MC: Protego!

Mc puts up a protego spell while still levitating Prewitt as the crowd gasps at sight. Professor hecat stands there watching the duel impressed at Mc skill level.

MC: Why goodness me Prewitt?! Cant deflect a simple levioso charm? How ironic. *smirks*

Leander: *Hollers* PUT ME DOWN! AHHHHHHHHH!

Was reminiscing a bit about all the decks ive used over the years in yugioh.

Of course in the earlier days I mostly played the game with my brothers or in Kaiba the revenge, so a lot of anime character inspired decks or more of a mix mash of whatever good cards we had.

First set I bought for myself was the zombie world structure deck, because I thought red-eyes was the coolest monster. And zombies have always been a deck type I have come back to every now and then, and does hold a special place in my heart because of the relevant that Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon has to me on a sentimental level.

I remember it was on a big outing to this shopping center with my whole family when me and one of my brothers saw one place was selling yugioh cards, he bought I believe the monarch structure deck and I bought Zombie World (but I do not remember which one he bought, timeline wise and such).

Seeing red-eyes zombie dragon on the cover is a weirdly vivid memory in my mind. I also remember it was the first time I ate different kinds of dried fruit was that day.

Later on when I was getting into playing it more seriously around the time of arc-v I had a few decks I got pretty attached to, DDD, odd-eyes... and the one I stuck with for the longest, Shaddolls.

Because Shaddolls can work in so many fun different variants splashed together with other archetypes and it makes them sort of timeless in a way. I fell of the game for a while after arc-v though and only got back into it with....

The abyss storyline! So Albaz and Ecclesia and stuff, the card storyline. This one I got really into because loving the artworks and the story they depicted, dragging me back into the game and causing me to pick up master duel. So naturally I used archetypes from that, Dogmatika and Tri-brigade were both great and I did play both for a while... but the one I got really attached to was despians, who also worked well with my beloved shaddolls.

I did so many variants of despian decks around this time, but my favorite came with the tearlaments release, doing a weird hybrid shaddoll/despian/tearlament deck which was so much fun to play. It was a tossup between that and despian/bystial with me swapping between them regularly. That was probably one of my favorite formats to play in to be honest (I could not do a proper tearlament hybrid irl because a lot of the needed cards were... pricy).

All in all if I was a yugioh anime character, or I were to make an OC for a roleplay or fanfic or something, id prolly have to pick either a red-eyes zombie dragon variant, the el-shaddolls or one of the albaz fusions for "boss monster".

Probably go for zombies since the other two are connected to card storylines, which is a thing I like with the game but something that can make it a bit awkward for being a specific character´s deck in some sense. Plus I think one could do some neat things with how it is a "corrupted" red-eyes for characterization purposes, not by going for the usual "evil" association of zombies but more in a... this character is someone who has had to claw their way up to where they are, suffering so many "scars" for it. And that reflecting in their scarred and wounded ace monster. A dragon that one can say has lost its majesty but it rises back up determined no matter how many times it is struck down.

Anyway I think Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon and it´s later variants are really cool cards.

I tentatively recommend the Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds sub after you’ve finished Dungeon Masters. A friend roped me into watching it and while it has its issues, poor pacing and poor animation quality at times, the overall experience is one I highly recommend! When it hits, it HITS!

So we're doing a lot of "play by ear" on our Yugioh watch! Basically, we're going with the flow of where our hearts take us. This has been a very random and fun ride thus far. So far it's been:

Jumping in to the series with the English dub starting at the beginning of season 3/the filler Noah arc/Digital Nightmare arc. Genuinely a random and insane place to start the series after not having seen it in decades.

Finishing out season 3 and thus the conclusion of the Battle City arc. I was truly and completely lost the whole time, asked a metric fuck ton of questions. Once again, really random. Once we get to the end, I stopped her and was like "babe I have no context for these characters, we need to go back to the beginning". I love her but she simply cannot watch something chronologically unless I force her LOL

Finally we go back and watch season one and two. I sort of remember most of season one from when I watched the show as a child. Because my wife is an absolute YGO DM expert, she gives me full commentary throughout about things that differ between the manga, season Zero, the original Japanese anime, and the 4kids English dub. Sometimes she'll find a scene that's pretty egregiously changed and we'll watch the dub and sub back to back. I genuinely think this is the coolest and best way to watch YGO ever, she has so much passion and knowledge.

Then we rewatch season 3, but with Japanese dub/English sub. Now that I actually know these characters, this makes a lot more sense. I'm adopting the Ishtars. My Lord, they need therapy.

We skip season 4 in it's entirety. I cannot adequately express enough how much my wife hates the Orichalcos filler arc. There are "amazing character moments, but that come at the cost of awful characterization, a nonsensical shit plot, and easily the worst paced duels in the entire show". She says that maybe one day we can visit this season with the assistance of recreational drugs. So that might be fun in the distant future, but I doubt we will ever actually watch it.

We jump into season 5, English dub again, starting with the Grand Championship arc. The animation is pretty abysmal here, same with the characterization, but we have a ton of fun anyways. Both Kaiba and Yugi really get to shine, despite everything. It helps knowing that this is another filler arc and basically meant to save money for the finale of the show, which she tells me is when the show is at it's peak in regards to just about everything in terms of quality.

We are JUST ABOUT to start the Capsule Monsters mini-filler arc. After that is Millennium World/the finale. Very excited for these.

After we finish the show, our plan is to wrap back around and watch the movies and then season Zero. Or maybe we were gonna do S0 and then the movies, I forget!

We have discussed a little bit what Yugioh shows we want to touch on once we've gone through everything Yugioh Duel Monsters related.

We both tried to watch GX when it originally aired, but it mutually did not grip either of us. She says that the fandom at large says it gets better as it goes on, but truth be told, neither of us are interested in trying. The premise of "duel school" already bores us, to be honest, and we both remember the characters being extremely dull. We most likely are not going to watch GX ever, or at the very least for a looooooong ass time.

Yugioh 5DS, funnily enough, is absolutely the series we are most curious about. This is the one that we are most likely to watch next and it would definitely be the Japanese dub/English sub. I can't guarantee that we will watch it, but if the mood strikes us to continue watching more Yugioh but that has no Yugi Moto in it, it's gonna be this show. But we'll both be going in blind, as neither of us knows shit other than "card games on motorcycles".

And holy shit, we don't even think we've heard of any of these.

Another day, the sun warming the tarmac of their hometown, the two brothers go out, chatting quietly about the grocery store where they used to stock their monster stomachs. However, even if one could have believed that they were going to go back without one of them dropping their full shopping bag, it can't stay calm any longer….

The youngest, having turned around to watch his back quietly as always, he finally ends up looking in the right direction while calmly answering his brother. Unfortunately, one thing had to be known: Rindou is terrified of dogs, whether they are small or huge.

So when a dog ran towards them, the latter saw his heart beat at full speed while his eyes bulged out of their sockets, an unmanly cry escaping from his lips. Hiding fearfully behind the fake black one who jumped in surprise, the two-tone one asking his elder to create a diversion for the little being he didn't want to get close to, he had a bad experience with one of man's best friends when he was younger.

-But Rindou, look how cute he is! Exclaims the first one, leaning down to gently caress the animal, taking advantage of this gesture of love under the resigned and panicked gaze of his brother.

Unfortunately, when the second one begins to gain a little confidence, the dog barks as it turns towards him, which makes him panic and take several steps back, terrified by the animal.

-Ran, get him out, he's coming towards me!

-But-

Rushing behind his brother, lost in his reaction when he noticed that the four-legged being was trying to make contact, he launches a threatening stare duel with the dog who is wagging his tail, his tongue hanging out weakly, looking innocent and friendly. Indeed, being only a small cavalier king charles, the dog had no desire to scare, he only wanted affection until his master came to pick him up.

-Look, you can see it in his eyes, he's evil.

-Huh? Turns around the tallest before being even more surprised by his brother's bipolarity at this precise moment.

Having noticed one of their men not far away, Rindou had coughed to resume a more "manly" voice and had resumed his proud and neutral posture in order not to show his weakness. The subordinate greeting them respectfully, he left at the moment when the one with glasses who was greeting him, felt the ball of fur rubbing against his ankle, he ended up violently kicking it towards his subordinate without the slightest pity.

-Rindou, poor thing!

-He wanted to bite me.

-He was just looking for hug!

-To then bite me as soon as I let my guard down.

Taking the animal in his hands, the one with the long hair, holds it out to his brother who still backs away in fear, giving him, just like the dog in his arms, a look of pity to exonerate them.

-Look, he's so cute! Come on, let's steal him, he loves me too much.

-We have enough dogs with you at home. Takes the second one back, continuing the path to the apartment, without worrying about the one saying goodbye to the dog.

-Look, he's following us too…

-Stop looking at him, stupid, he's sure to come after! Panicks the youngest, hitting his brother so that he doesn't talk to the dog anymore once he's told him they'll be back…

CONSIDER. Magical boy Silver and campy villain Malleus. Think of a situation that’s like, sailor moon meets princess tutu meets utena meets sleeping beauty.

I evoke princess tutu because tell me Silver is not literally Mytho.

Like. White-haired sword-wielding soft spoken princes (ok Silver isn’t confirmed but it’s canon in my heart) who appear to be apathetic. Heroes who sacrifice themselves for what they think is the greater good. They are the same image.

The setting would be a human city. Sort of modern times. Flip phone era. We communicate through emails. I want this to have a retro vibe, but not too much.

ANYWAY, Silver, sixteen, cursed to fall asleep at unexpected times. Lilia raises him. Silver is sweet and quiet, a bit of a dreamer, but doesn’t show it… he takes ballet classes… he has a charm despite how sleepy and lost he is and has quite a few friends, like Kalim💜💜💜 who is the PERFECT sidekick i mean come on.

Silver often naps in the woods behind his school… that’s where he finds the magical sword that gives him his cute little powers <3 he has an Arthur moment of course. His animal sidekicks are based off of the three fairies from the og sleeping beauty.

He uses his newfound power to defeat… GASP… the master of all evil, Malleus Draconia, a ruthless fae prince!!! Malleus is a campy, dramatic villain, think if Dio and Kars from Jojo’s had a beautiful, sultry lovechild. He serves Elvira with his big tits almost spilling out of his décolleté. Think James from Pokémon, with his shojo sparkles and roses. Every week it’s something new with him and he never learns his lesson; also, he shows up in a new sexy cunty outfit every week. Triggering thunderstorms and cutting off the electricity everywhere, threatening to flood the city before Silver intervenes; leaving poisoned roses in incongruous places, and when a passerby touches it, they are possessed by an evil spirit that Silver must defeat; attempting to drag mobs into an abyss with his will o’ the wisp; because we’re in a magical girl setting, a lot of it is just people being mind controlled. At the end of each arc, perhaps Silver can duel one of the six overblotters, à la Utena. It’s all very normal and expected of a shojo until it isn’t.

What Silver doesn’t know is the king of the abyss is madly in love with him, and each scheme is a plot to lure Silver into Malleus’ abode so he can seduce him. Every time they battle, of course, Malleus flirts with him, and when they get close, he takes some of his hair between his fingers. Get you a man who’s willing to bring chaos and destruction to a whole city because he wants to kiss you so bad. Malleus declares himself defeated on purpose so he won’t actually hurt Silver, who thinks he’s actually won…

Sebek is, too, a magical boy, albeit his role isn’t as important. He intervenes kind of like tuxedo mask; Silver falls asleep and Sebek shows up with his shield, blocking any hit Malleus directs at them. When Silver wakes up, Sebek scolds him and yells at him to hit Malleus with his sword. They defeat the evil prince together and they both eat dinner at Sebek’s house LOL

Don’t think I forgot about Lilia, who is revealed early on to be Malleus’ minion. He is a shapeshifting fae, meaning he can give himself round ears so he doesn’t raise suspicions. At night, he tells Malleus about Silver’s day and what he does at school dggjgdjyfdkywf

Lilia: he got an A on his science assignment.

Malleus: I see… what a smart boy. Very smart indeed… naturally, I wouldn’t want my meddling to have an impact on his grades.

The pre-final boss is Malleus finally losing it and appearing as a dragon kaiju, destroying buildings etc. Silver falls asleep in the middle of the battle and his dreams transport him to the classic dream-but-is-it-really-a-dream place where he finds Lilia who now has all of his fae attributes... cue a heart wrenching dialogue as Silver realizes his father betrayed him from the very start of his life.

Begins the arc where Silver wakes up to see the city has been partly destroyed and looks like runes covered in thorns and moss. How long has it been since he fell asleep? He doesn’t know. Most of the city’s inhabitants have fallen asleep. Even the fairy animal sidekicks are asleep. He must now find Malleus and end this once and for all.

As Silver explores the ruined city, sword in hand, he fights battles against like, sentient, beastly rose bushes (a nod to alice in wonderland and the pretty sentient flowers?), sentient gargoyles that fucking throw bricks at him LMFAOO… and other eldritch abominations. He gets a vision after each battle that tells him where to go. He finds a mysterious dark door in the woods behind his school and he falls into the abyss, where he finds Malleus on his throne.

Of course Malleus flirts while Silver is panicked and shaky and angry. He even pulls Silver into his arms and waltzes around his dark gloomy castle while Silver is fucking terrified. I hope Silver didn’t think he was the hero… because in Malleus’ eyes, he is the damsel in distress. He has Silver where he wants him, in his arms… he has no shame now, whispering the most sappy words of love into his ear, talking about marrying him oh my god. For once, Silver thinks he might actually be losing this one—he doesn’t even KNOW how to undo the curse. He realizes that every battle fought so far was just… Malleus using him like a pawn. The evil prince of the darkness is much too strong, way stronger than Silver thought… he can’t even resist Malleus’ lips on his oh my god. He falls asleep once again and Mal places Silver’s head on his lap, happy that he finally has his little prince all to himself.

I want to incorporate Silver’s true origins into this. I want the city Silver lives in to be directly on the land where the kingdom from sleeping beauty once was. I want Silver’s blood to be the only thing that survived from that once glorious kingdom… perhaps some of the pieces to the puzzle would show up in his dreams. Maybe on his way to Malleus during the pre-final boss arc, he would find #the ring… and maybe everything comes together as he sleeps on Malleus’ lap.

From there, I’m imagining three routes

1. Silver wakes up and, overcome with doom, having learned his father betrayed him, and that he’s powerless before the beast that is Malleus, he attempts to stab himself with his own sword. Panicked, Malleus uses his body to block the hit, because he doesn’t want Silver to die, of course (he’s dumb). They both end up getting stabbed and they die together as a skewer while the city outside continues to decay eternally.

2. Silver wakes up and is stuck in a beauty and the beast situation. He plots how he’ll defeat Malleus, this time using wits rather than force and magic, because those do not work on him. This doesn’t work; Silver slowly learns to fall in love. Malleus reveals himself to be very sweet, caring, and romantic, and Silver, fatigued dreamer that he is, falls for him. Silver also quickly learns that there is simply no way Malleus can be defeated. He has no weaknesses. So as he softens his heart, he comforts himself by reminding himself that at least, nobody is dead in the city, and that they will be spending eternity having the most pleasant of dreams. He’s being corrupted of course. He’s questioning his duty as a hero, why he did what he did, why he simply let fate guide him.

3. Silver wakes up and, in a fit of rage, finally brings himself to stab Malleus’ heart. The evil prince put his guard down because he thought he finally had Silver… big mistake. The abyss fades away and Malleus struggles to mutter an “I love you” before he dies. Silver is back in the forest with his normal clothes on. His sword is gone. It’s over. The city still retains some damage, but the thorns are gone and the people are waking up. Fin.

The aesthetic would be very art nouveau, methinks. Bright sun, curvaceous vines and thorns, roses and may lilies everywhere. It’s surreal. Bright colours inspired by the aesthetic of the og sleeping beauty. Silver’s magical boy costume is pink, but during his transformation sequence, it flashes both blue and pink. He has a frilly blouse with a corset. The tights are essential & evoke Phillip as well as Silver’s hobby (ballet). He also has high boots with like, a 2 inch heel. The frills on his blouse have roses embroidered… his corset has lace details. He has a golden tiara just like Aurora’s. So i guess from the waist up it’s giving Briar Rose’s peasant girl attire, and from the waist down it’s giving Phillip, but make it all very pink and frilly and magical girl-esque. The hilt of his sword has a lot of detail as well, very similar to Silver’s ring from book 7.

Sebek’s magical boy outfit is similar but a lot more inspired by Phillip. He’s sage green from head to toe. He has puffy sleeves and a cape. Let’s not forget the cunty corset… the details are the same, roses and intricate lace… his heels are one inch however. Let’s not get too crazy he’s tall enough. He has tights as well duh.

I’m surprised though because I’ve seen a Japanese fanartist draw art monthly based on what they said was the latest chapter so I’m confused now about what they were referring to then. It’s definitely about Win though, like apparently the May issue has him poisoned, they take his shirt off to heal him and he seems to have a nightmare, does this ring any bells by chance?

One day Jashin manifests in his deck like “I am the wicked god who appears every thousands years and you just summoned me, so let’s destroy the world, kill all humans, I want blood, I want flesh, etc etc.” and Win’s like “🫤….Anyway this is a cool card.” because he’s happy with his life with his dad and friends and isn’t interested in power.

So things happen and such, but it’s a pretty reoccurring point that Jashin keeps trying to goad Win into being fucked up and evil, taking revenge on those who wrong him, and becoming the king of darkness. And Win consistently rejects that, even though he does show signs of slowly degrading as the world keeps trying him. He accidentally almost kills a guy like once. And later gets into a fistfight with said guy. But they make up eventually lmao👍

But later—more relevant to what you saw—a woman called Nonno shows up and messes with Win’s friends, and this actually really gets to him. Win gets so pissed at her he starts overflowing with dark power. Jashin is very happy about this, of course.

But just as Win snaps and Jashin goes to kill her, the rest of the members of Nonno’s group show up. The leader easily defeats and dismembers Jashin and takes him away, causing all of Win’s dark energy to dissipate and him to pass out. (Rip bozo)

He then got taken to the hospital, prolly what you’ve seen. Nothing’s necessarily wrong with him, but the dark power’s being all haywire. Basically when he wakes up he can’t control the power, and starts accidentally disintegrating living things.

He’s gotten the power of the king of darkness. Y’know, the powers to destroy the world 👍

Now that’s, yannow, bad, and he’s a threat to his friends if he outbursts, so the headmaster locked him away in a cube at the bottom of the ocean I guess to test how strong his heart is and 😭 he’s just gonna suffocate if he doesn’t get out. We didn’t see him this month’s chapter at all cuz he’s just been stuck in that fucking cube offscreen 😭😭😭

And that’s all caught up.

I left out and generalized a LOT—but that’s the gist.

The anime covers basically all the events leading up to Nonno and stuff, but there’s some changes and it’s a lot slower paced with a bit of a different tone and more random YouTuber collabs lmao. Like it shows Win’s friend getting messed with, but it doesn’t set him off the same way and they somehow wrote Nonna out of it. Also there’s no fistfight 😔

Some of the source materials are easier to find than others, like season 1 of the anime’s pretty easy.
