Note
I saw that somebody previously asked about folk costume here and was thinking about shooting my shot: how do you feel about folk costume from Eleusis? And do you have any examples of it? I’ve seen a lot of pictures of folk costume from Megara, but not really Eleusis/Elefsina; so I’m curious if you know anything about it
The reason there is so little content available about the costume of Eleusis is likely the fact that the original attire was quite different than those of the surrounding regions of Attica (i.e Megara) or Salamina island. However, it progressively adopted more and more elements from the other Attican costumes, somewhat losing its initial look. The scarce artwork and pictures we have available nowadays show its more recent look and not so much how it was originally.

KERAMIEKOS TO KYKEON
Tumblr media
Keramiekos to Kykeon, is an original, plastic and performative creation, to mark the end of the group show Visions from the Underworld, organized by The Aprognostic Temple, as part of the European Capital of Culture Elefsina 2023, Mystery 177. Keramiekos to Kykeon is a tribute to the mysteries of ancient Greece. Much of it is inspired by the works of Edouard Schuré: Les Grands Initiées & Le Drame sacrée d'Eleusis.
The work consists of several parts:
1). A music workshop with the public.
2). Elements created in ceramics: instruments that pay homage to the aulos (an ancient Greek double-reed instrument), Pythagoras' cups, puzzle cups that test the moderation of their users and a large creation (kernos) bearing a sacred drink, the Kykeon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3). A wooden ark, used to carry the ceramics and the elixir, which transforms into a display stand at the end of the procession. 4). Costumes and flags are sewn to mark the presence of otherness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5). A procession around the historic site of the Eleusian Mysteries, passing by the sea where an offering to the gods is made then continuing to the temple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
6). The performance of music & song accompanies the procession and the installation of the display. At the end, we sing, we share the kykeon, we unveil the cube of mystery and the exhibition is over.
ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΩ Sam & Dome

On the meanings of the titles of Neuvillette's soundtracks
because hoo boy. he can fit so much religious and mythological symbolism in him.
1. Teaser theme - Eleusis Dicis Gratia
youtube
With the help of Latin-speaking discord buddies who wished to remain anonymous, we established that the phrasing is clunky, but "dicis gratia" means "you thank" or "thank", that is, either just second person or an imperative.
Eleusis (or Elefsina) is a city in Greece which in ancient history and mythology is famous for two things equally relevant to us.
1. It was a coastal town, and one of the coastal caves was said to be the place where Persephone was abducted by Hades, as well as the entrance to Tartarus, the abyss under the realm of Hades.
(Parallelled by Meropide and the Primordial Sea under it? Also does this mean that those of you who say that Wriolette are Hades and Persephone-coded are even more right than you think you are?)
2. Shortly after the creation of Athens, there was a war between it and Elefsina, supposedly deity-backed: Athens belonging to, of course, Athena, and Elefsina to Poseidon. Athens won, but out of all the territories conquered by it, Elefsina remained the most independent one, even allowed to call itself a polis and coin its own money.
(Parallelled by the usurpation of Hydro authority and Neuvillette's second-highest position in Fontaine?)
Eleusis was also an eponymous mytholigical hero. They (gender is inconclusive, but more likely male) don't have any deeds of interest, but their parentage is somewhat relevant: Hermes and an Oceanid-nymph, Daeira. (This would fit Furina better than Neuvillette)
Conclusion: "Eleusis" can mean both a place (to be interpreted as Fontaine) and a person (to be interpreted as either Neuvillette or Furina). Either they are thanked by someone or someone implores another to thank them. Therefore a perfect conclusion is unachievable, but my personal favourite interpretation, based on the teaser's content, is "Neuvillette tells himself to thank Fontaine [for giving him perspective]".
Phew.
2. Demo theme - Parousia Diluvi
youtube
This one's actually much easier!
"Parousia" translates literally from Greek as "presence", but lithurgically it means "Second Coming". "Diluvi" is probably familiar from the Story Quest name, so the full name of the track is "Second Coming of the Flood".
Bonus: the lyrics in the beginning and from 0:59 to 1:10 are "Omne sublime despicit est heres superbiae", meaning "Every deity is looked down upon by the proud heir". Which is, well, canon. (credit to @vidyadharaonline and @hosbirb in the video's comments!)
TL;DR: A WHOLE LOT of Greek mythology and biblical references here.
P. S. All info from Wikipedia! Also feel free to correct me

This week's newsletter from AthensLive is out:
* What does “without too much of a humanitarian cost” mean?
* How Greece is involved in the rising tensions in the Middle East
* ‘Greek Watergate’ - A testimony and a reportage
The Greek PM visited Israel this week, providing full support to the country. At the same time, the Greeks seem divided on whose side they are on as to the conflict; slightly more are those siding with the Palestinians.
US forces use the Greek bases of Souda in Crete and Elefsina in Attica to station their support aircraft and host Special Operation Forces. At the same time, authorities in Greece seem worried that the Israel-Palestinian war could trigger “terrorist attacks” in the country.
Greek Justice has done nothing for 18 months to prosecute people about the wiretapping scandal. Yet, it prosecutes members of the Hellenic Authority for Communication Security and Privacy - ADAE, said ADAE president Christos Rammos, testifying to the European Parliament LIBE Committee. A report also revealed that action by the Top Court may have resulted in not unveiling the possible connection between the Greek government and the Predator.
It cannot be recommended strongly enough to read and share this week's updates on the events and developments in Greece here: https://steadyhq.com/en/athenslivegr/posts/65f30d51-0287-4e11-bcc6-41673672dc80
For anyone with a wish or need to follow and to gain an insight into recent events in Greece and to read and support independent and investigative journalism in English, the weekly newsletter from AthensLive should be a core element in the reading flow.
If you want the best overview of the events and developments in Greece right now, this is the place to go. Not the mainstream Greek news, but independent journalism with sharp analysis and links to interesting and important topics from a variety of sources.

[Part 1] Yesterday, Wednesday, the 10th of the month, a mass gathering and march was held in Elefsina against the crows that threaten to evict a family.
The people gathered early outside the family's house at 25 Iatrou Papagianni and after a long gathering marched through the main streets of the city. The gathered crowd exceeded a thousand people, a figure that, for the city's data, is one of the largest ever recorded. In the process, the blocs of unions and student associations were leading, followed by the blocs of anti-fascist anti-fascist women against the evictions and the Rubicon. The anti-fascist bloc consisted of the local anti-fascist of comrades from surrounding areas, AEK supporters and a delegation from the Electra Apostolou struggle front.
[Part 2] An initial bet yesterday was won, namely that the city will massively and dynamically send the message that the family is not alone and that the eviction will not take place. The solidarity and fight will ensure that the house remains for Dionysia and her family and a message will be given to the crows who leave the world homeless.
The march, although a strong message, is only a moment of the struggle which will continue more intensely until we win. We call on the whole city to be vigilant for Dionysia's house and for every house that is in danger. We must imbue our neighborhoods with solidarity and put an end to privatization and indifference. In a society that only projects individual benefit and indifference every day, we will bring back the collective and the organization.
Dionysia will win, we will win, the city will win.
Only the people will save the people.

Thanos Tsingos was born in 1914 in Elefsina, studied architecture at the university in Athens (1931-1936) and worked as an architect until 1939.
His adventurous life begins with the II World War; he served in the Middle East front, got involved in the Middle East coup, and was sentenced to death at first, then to life imprisonment. Once he was pardoned and released (1946) he became one of the architects working on the city plan of Brasília, on Le Corbusier’s recommendation.
After the end of the Brazilian project (1948), he settled in Paris, where worked with the avant-garde theatre and devoted himself to painting. He had already adopted the wild lifestyle of the bohemian artists of the era, but also self-destructive tendencies.
His 1st solo exhibition was held in Paris in 1950. More exhibitions followed in European countries. He returned permanently to Athens in 1961, where he presented two solo exhibitions with moderate success.
The freedom and boldness of his painting style were not duly appreciated in Greece on time. Despite his productivity, he could hardly sell his works, at least not during his living years, which is why he died destitute in 1965. Later, his paintings became very popular, confirming the quality of his work, but also his myth as a cursed artist.
