my PERSONAL OPINION on ro//nance: 

so a disclaimer: feel free to ship whoever you want to ship. these are just my thoughts and my perspective on the explosion of ro//nance since season 4. it’s not my intention to condemn or tell anyone to stop producing their content, i just want to scream into the void before it festers. 

your wish fulfillment is valid, but so is my opinion. so if that’s not smth you want to see feel free to skip !! 

diving straight in… i wanna talk about nancy wheeler. 

to be clear: i don’t hate nancy. i think she is headstrong and determined and knows what she wants. she sticks to her guns and definitely has the potential to be a truly good person. that being said, she is extremely selfish in canon. 

from season 1, my interpretation of her is that she’s infatuated with the concept of steve harrington and the status that he could bring. he’s a fantasy that’s suddenly become attainable to the nerdy miss wheeler. of COURSE she’s going to relish his attention. 

note: i actually don’t think anyone else except barb, mike, and steve himself, ever called steve an asshole. so . do with that what you will. 

anyway, nancy and jonathan act like steve suspecting that nancy is cheating is SO unreasonable. which honestly? it’s not. catching your girlfriend alone in her bedroom with a guy who TOOK NONCONSENSUAL ILLICIT PHOTOS OF TWO UNDERAGE TEENAGERS… that’s suspicious. perhaps his reaction wasn’t the best, but he’s also like 17 years old and protecting himself the way he knows how to. and of course his friends aren’t going to take that laying down either. 

i don’t know if any of the supporters of ro//nance have ever been cheated on, but it’s not just heartbreaking… it’s HUMILIATING. and such a hit to the self esteem. and i don’t care what the circumstance is, unless it’s nonconsensual. cheating is cheating and i firmly believe that a cheater will always be a cheater. 

in this case, it’s also reasonable for nancy to be pissed when she sees the movie theater because she didn’t actually cheat at that time. both of them had bad reactions but they also both had good reasoning behind their actions. 

YES steve called jonathan a queer, but keep in mind it’s a common insult in the 80s, especially with the AIDS epidemic going on. don’t use modern standards to condemn him, but also don’t excuse his behavior. YES he was wrong, but he grew (obviously what with his friendship with robin). and do you really think he’s not going to go for the throat when he thinks that jonathan slept with his girlfriend? 

it’s a classic case of everyone’s the asshole but everyone’s not the asshole. 

moving onto season 2. BULLSHIT. nancy was projecting. like she felt so guilty about barb and associated that night with the first time she had sex with steve, so she associated steve with barb’s disappearance/death. she was processing her trauma which is totally fine, but also not an excuse to treat steve like that. to be fair, drunk words drunk words. 

what she forgot was that steve also experienced the same thing. maybe not the grief and loss that she felt, but it’s HIS house. he has to stare out at that pool every night and know that it’s a murder scene and a grave site. he may be processing his trauma by trying to forget and be a “normal kid.” and that’s fine. 

and to be SO clear: they didn’t technically break up. you could say that they did, or take that as your interpretation, but in my opinion they’re not broken up until they have a conversation explicitly discussing ending things. couples fight all of the time. it’s not uncommon to want a little space afterwards before apologizing/making up. 

so yes. nancy cheated. and she never thought about the consequences of her actions, especially regarding steve. imagine how he felt. in season 3, he admitted to being IN LOVE with her. and she called him bullshit and cheated on him. be so real, if this happened in real life, you wouldn’t be as kind as steve. he stayed friendly with BOTH nancy and jonathan, and continued to babysit their brothers. 

steve called himself a bad boyfriend, but did we ever see evidence of that? he was constantly wooing her and romancing her. like if she didn’t want that, she could have communicated that throughout the YEAR they were together. the only possible way that steve could be a bad boyfriend was regarding their difference in trauma response. which is not being Bad. it’s having different personalities and perspectives. so ??? just a gripe. 

SEASON 3…. so YEAH nancy is selfish. her and jonathan’s job at the hawkins post … like YES fight misogyny and feel infuriated because of your treatment. however, don’t strong-arm jonathan into supporting you when he NEEDS that job. unlike miss picket fence upper middle class nancy wheeler, the byers don’t have a lot of money. they’re living on a single income and jonathan works too. like he doesn’t have the ability to just drop the job. of course, he follows her in the end though. honestly, that only validates nancy’s perspective that she’s always right and her crusade for whatever is righteous. 

but she doesn’t care about collateral damage. she never took into account jonathan’s feelings. she never took into account the effect this could have on future jobs. employers DO check references sometimes fyi. (also i KNOW that it was due to a lot of misogyny, but irl new hires are often the company mule. like she could have tried to work her way up. she hasn’t even been working there that long, and she a high school student expects to be published within months?? just be a little realistic here) 

i honestly commend her because she’s bold and she’s brave. she makes a GREAT reporter. but she makes a bad friend and a bad girlfriend. from what i observe, she takes things for granted and gives too much credit to herself. these are just character flaws and that’s human to have flaws. it’s possible to be a good person and also do bad things. i actually like nancy a lot, but it has to be acknowledged that she rarely faces consequences for her actions, and has never been confronted with the fact that she constantly puts herself first with no regard for other people. 

just a quick note for season 4 bc this is getting SO long: when nancy told steve he “almost deserved” to get shot in the face. okay bitch. now i’m mad. bc? what did he do? and like. tbh WHO deserves to get shot in the face. i don’t care if it was supposed to be a flirty statement, it was SO out of pocket. 

it’s also clear that nancy takes credit for steve’s “transformation.” if i’m being honest, the only thing she really pushed him to do was to drop tommy and carol. STEVE made the decision to run back in to fight the demogorgon. STEVE made the decision to help dustin and fight the demo dogs. STEVE made the decision to stay behind to watch the kids while they stormed the lab. show me one instance where nancy influences his actions, and i’ll acknowledge it, but i just don’t see it. and i think she gives herself way too much credit. because she wasn’t there by his side working through it with him. she was dealing with her own problems (which is okay), but she can’t act like she completely transformed him and made him a heroic babysitter. think on that. 

into my thoughts on ro//nance: 

robin is steve’s best friend. she’s not JUST his best friend. he’s her platonic soulmate. when they were conceived, they were a being with four arms and four legs. but they were Too Cunt and Powerful so they had to be separated. they are literally two parts of one soul. 

now imagine: ur best friend admits he’s IN LOVE/HAS BEEN IN LOVE with his ex. and she broke his heart. that in itself already has me livid, but if i found out about the “bullshit” spiel, i would have to start throwing punches. 

i believe in season 4 that the reason why robin is so curious about nancy is because she wants to know what type of girl steve fell in love with. like what’s so appealing about nancy that she’s the only one he said he fell in love with? and i also believe she didn’t know about the cheating at this time because NO WAY would she have been nice to nancy if she knew. 

maybe you guys can forgive cheating, but i sure can’t. and especially when it happens to my best friend… it’s over. like sorry i treasure my best friend…. 

reiterating that nancy isn’t a bad person, but she just Doesn’t work with robin. putting aside robin’s opinions, nancy fucking hates her LMFAO. like she is So cold to robin out of? jealousy (a cheater is a cheater is a cheater). so it only really proves me right that nancy doesn’t actually care about the people she’s with. does she think that flirting with steve is okay after playing around with his heart before? has she ever taken into account the fact that steve may have been healing or emotionally unavailable? did she ever consider how steve felt after they broke up? 

robin did. and she’s ride or die. 

and a rebuttal to a post i’ve definitely seen before: yes, lesbians do tend to have a small dating pool which leads to a lot of friends dating exes. (i, a lesbian, have experience with this). HOWEVER, a cheater is different. because you have to acknowledge that a lot of lesbians stay friends with their exes. steve and nancy are AT BEST friendly in canon. if you would date someone who cheated on their friend, FULL OFFENSE, you’re not a good friend. that’s just a fact. 

you’re not only completely disregarding their experience, but you’re also forcing them to be in the same space as someone who betrayed them. and that’s more of a betrayal than the actual cheating imo. sorry but IN MY OPINION, i’d never want to be friends with anyone who ships ro//nance lol. it just shows me that you don’t care about your friends’ feelings like that. 

this is kind of a rant and totally nonsensical, but i have to yell about this bc i feel like it’s not even talked about. nancy is always characterized as a perfect girl, but she’s not. and that’s OKAY! but you can’t erase her history just to have two cute girls kiss. 

it’s also completely ignoring CANON love interests (vickie). which i get because she didn’t get a lot of screen time, but god can’t we find another alternative. 

and be honest: a lot of people ship ro//nance so that jonathan/argyle can get together too. or they act like it’s okay bc steddie get together and steve is happy now. 

THOUGH steve would approve of the relationship bc he’s a GOOD guy and KIND, i think that robin would have rejected it. she’d defend that man to the DEATH. 

so when you ship ro//nance, you’re erasing stobin. because robin would want someone who loves steve just as much as she does. someone who understands that he’s her soulmate and she can’t live without him. and nancy just isn’t that person. their history and nancy’s perception of steve just stand in the way of that kind of relationship. 

not to mention that steve and robin are One. like this is more conjecture but they are Literally the Same Person. and if steve wasn’t compatible with nancy, what makes you think that robin would be?  honestly, the whole concept of ro//nance just completely bamboozles me. i’m confused and i’m irritated. because it’s almost like none of you have actually had a REAL relationship. or YOU don’t care about other people’s feelings. nancy kin i guess. 

again again, my personal opinion. i choose not to consume ro//nance content, but somehow it keeps cropping up so i do have to put in my two cents. by all means, keep shipping and supporting them, but it would be nice if you read through this and thought about the characterization.

I know that I'm the resident Linkin Park fan, and I'm all over 9x05, but, LOATR is just about one particular aspect of his life.  It doesn't encapsulate the full depth of him.  And, honestly, that's what I really hope that I captured in my video.  It's basically a marriage proposition to him at this point.  I hope I did the song and him justice.

Autistic.  Hearing impaired.  Misanthropic humanist.  I love bugs because of him.  I'm learning to sign because of him.  I got into CSI because I love bioscience.  Ghost/social outcast until we find the right people.  Struggle with emotions and relationships, and ultimately learning to choose love over fear (which is, one again, something I learned from him. If he can do it, so can I. The fact that my role model is a fictional being). Bullied because of being nerdy.  Bullied because of "weirdness" aka autism.  We're uncomfortable around people but care very deeply about them, especially if they're our loved ones.  Honestly a lot of it is the autism and everything that comes with it.

Lemme just say, boy am I glad I am on the we want to fuck that old man website.  Because, at first, I was embarrassed and self-conscious that I was in love with someone much older than me (hence why I love GSR; it gives me so much more confidence), but then as I got into the tumblr fandom I saw that I'm not alone.  So thank you everyone.

When people hate him overall for the way he treated Sara well in the early seasons.  Like, hello *gestures to his whole development arc*  you see this?  Or were we not watching the same show?

I love loving him.  I write my stories with him with so much love and care.  And I'm proud that my audience say it's obvious how much I love him.

I don't like him being hurt so I never write it.  Like, I'll just say it:  I'm glad it was Nick who got caught in Grave Danger and not Gil.  If it had been him I...I don't know what I would've done.  Even though I'd have known  that he was gonna be fine in the end, during the process I'd break down, no matter how many times I've watched it.  The thought of him being hurt just...I can't say it.  Sorry Nick, I love you too but Gil...Gil is the most special to me.

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?

I love when people write about his disabilities.  His hearing impairment, how he signs, his experience speaking both English and ASL.  His social and emotional struggles because of his autism.

Sigh. After the Uncommon Rains. Though it's not yet finished, this is without a doubt my least popular long fic. Despite some initial interest, even most of the people who normally read my stuff (all 2-5 of you, bless) aren't really picking this one up - or if they are, they aren't telling me about it. I have a few theories as to why this one is a flop, but that's not what you asked. Besides, I personally love it, so I'm gonna gush about it anyway. Maybe someone out there will give it a chance. And to the few readers it has, thank you!

As I explain in the summary and author's note, "After the Uncommon Rains" is essentially Jane Austen's last novel, Persuasion, rewritten as a Western. Some of this is self-serving. Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen, and one I think is generally severely underrated in favor of others like Emma or Pride and Prejudice. In it we have characters who aren't in the throes of folly and misunderstanding, but actually living with the consequences of that previous folly. The action opens with main protagonist, Anne Elliott, faced with the prospect of reuniting with Frederick Wentworth, a man with whom she was deeply in love and briefly engaged to some seven years prior. Her family disapproved of Frederick's lack of wealth; Anne caved to their pressure and broke it off. She's been miserable ever since. Frederick, however, is now the dashing and very rich Captain Wentworth, having made his fortune on the very wit and intelligence that Anne fell in love with. Now he's back. And oh boy, does he hate her for breaking his heart.

So immediately this screams Irosami to me. What I love about Anne and Frederick is that their attraction isn't just physical, but intellectual. They both love culture and reading and learning about the world, and have good hearts and strong moral compasses and are brave and selfless with their friends. Which is what I see as the chief attractions of an Irosami ship as well. Their minds are made for each other just as much as their bodies. But I didn't just want to re-write Persuasion with Iroh as the naval captain and Asami as the quiet victim of her family's hatred of benders. Not only was that boring, but it didn't quite fit. Asami stands up to her father in canon. She doesn't take anyone's shit. Of the two of them, I think Iroh the more likely to cave to the pressures of honor and duty. Therefore, Iroh is a more obvious Anne. And Asami, the ambitious and talented 19-year old CEO with a bit of a temper and ride-or-die loyalty, is a better Frederick. It also allowed me to bring in more members of the OC family I've already created for Iroh, including especially his little sister.

I also wanted to do something fun with the setting. I personally struggle when I have to follow another work too closely, so I thought the challenge of making Persuasion work outside of Edwardian England would help. I've been playing with the idea of a Western for a while. So, why not? A Western it became. What is Anne's stay at the Musgroves became Iroh working at Tenzin's sky bison ranch in the Si Wong desert, and Captain Wentworth's success in the navy became Asami's inheritance of Future Industrial Railroad, which just happens to be building a line out that way.

The most fun I've had with this fic is hands-down the worldbuilding I've had to do for the setting. I've done so much research on cattle ranching and clothing styles and climate and locomotives. I've looked at so many pictures of dresses and hats and trains. I have my friend with a horse on speed dial to ask her questions about riding and the care of ostrich horses. I feel like I invent a plant or animal or food every ten lines. It's really great. Is it a coach or a carriage? Did you know that there's a difference?

By far the least fun - or maybe just the hardest - is matching up all the characters. In the novel there are far fewer main characters. The Musgroves' two daughters are Anne's only real rivals for Wentworth's affections. But in this fic I had to figure out what to do with all the air kids, all the Beifongs, Korra, plus Mako and Bolin. It was absolute chaos, with like five different people filling the roles of two. Other characters don't cleanly map - Baatar Jr. is playing the role of two characters, as is Bolin, while Commander Bumi is more like one and a half and Lin combines the roles of 2-3 bit parts so sometimes I feel like I forget that she's there. The endgame Linumi is based on the flimsiest of side ships. There's no renters of Kellynch, so Frederick's sister and the Admiral's roles are spread out among the cast. The whole plotline of Mr. Elliott, Anne's creepy cousin who almost marries her instead of Frederick, is dramatically reduced because I cut out the entire inheritance sub-plot altogether. Same with Tahno, who is playing a reduced version of Mrs. Clay who doesn't really want to marry Izumi (Sir Elliott), just kind of be a sponge on the family. Basically, it's been chaos.

If there's one mistake I made in planning, I think it's probably trying to force the Korra sami bit. For one, it's probably clear as day to a reader that I don't vibe with the ship because I can't write it to save my life. The whole Korra and Asami dynamic feels awkward and forced to me. Second, though I know it's an AU and 2023 and I'll probably be roasted for this, no one remarking on the same sex relationship also feels weird for both the Western and the Austin genre, mostly because there is always so much about inheritance and marriage there. Nobody batting an eye that Korra wants to marry Asami without addressing money and heirs and all that in a world where those concerns were the driving force of most of the plots seems a glaring omission. Finally, it introduces even more people into the mix, and other side ships like Makopal that I struggle to write or have to spend extra time justifying. I think everything would have gelled better with eventual Makorra and Bopal as the other side ships. Oh well. I wanted Borra. :-) I will live with my choices.

That said, I still love this fic. I'm having fun writing it. It's stretched me in new ways, most notably in it being the first time I've ever worked with beta readers. THANK YOU YOU LOVELY AMAZING PEOPLE. And whether a lot of folks read this story or not, I'm glad that I tried to do something different and difficult.

I would say that there's not many moments of the show where Steve is underrated, I think the fans as a whole have really appreciated and analyzed every moment of screen time that we've been give, understandably so, but my all time favorite moments are during the interrogation, SPECIFICALLY "He's long gone you big asshole" because it really just feels like Joe and Maya were cracking up and having fun during filming, despite the awful context of the scene. The other scene I enjoy is during S4 during Dear Billy when he's so genuinely concerned about Max and so touched to receive a letter. Everyone calls him Mom but he really has this Big Brother Energy like no other.

I wish so much that his chat with Robin while making Molotov cocktails was extended this season. I also don't wish it was. Kinda odd, I know. It was succinct in the way it needed to be, but I also feel like their relationship is so unique, especially in the sense that it's a strictly platonic male x female friendship, that I wish I could see more of their relationship beyond the banter.

I would LOVE to see some Steve backstory. Anything, any little crumbs of his life that they've hinted at and I would be thrilled. I also think that Steve should be single. I'm not going to fool myself into believing that Steddie would ever become canon, I'm not sure I'd want it to because I feel like it would kind of ruin the dynamic that the fans of the ship have created, but I want Steve to be a character that doesn't define self worth by relationship status. I feel like so much of his character growth has been rooted in who he has had a crush on and not how he as a person has grown, so I'd love that especially.

I won't say I can't stand it, but I've grown tired of the 'Steve has the groundbreaking discovery that he's bisexual' trope. It's not a bad one, hell I've used it, I just feel as though it's been done to the extent that it can be. I also don't love how he's written as stupid sometimes. He's a himbo 50000% but he's still a smart character. One that I love is that he's very emotionally intelligent. I love every time I read something and see that Steve is picking up on the emotions before anyone else does. It's uncommon to see a male character perceived that way, especially not one that is viewed as the group fighter.

This is so funny because the answer to both questions is the same: Hurt/Comfort and Sickfics. Anytime where Steve is trying to hide that he's hurt or generally having a hard time in order to avoid being a burden, only to have it all come crashing down on him as he is forced to rely on his friends and discover that he's loved *dreamy sigh*

This one is very tricky and I'm trying to find a way to answer without answering too much. As someone who writes fics, most of my scenarios are my plans for my fics. I am laying them out in my head thinking about dialogues and the movements of the characters. Right now I've been doing a lot of thinking about bits of Steve's backstory, especially how it would be affected by having a psychiatrist for a mother because that's the main plot of the fic I'm currently working on.

I like this one because it kinda came out of left field but bear with me here. Steve would 100000% wear friendship bracelets. Lots of them. All different colors and all from the kids. They'd teach him how to make them, El would string the beads with her mind, Max would show everyone how to braid, it would be a bonding experience like no other. I also think that Eddie would give him his class ring because that was a way of saying that you're dating in the 80s.

I am not trying to attack anyone I just want to give my honest truth on the ship of BakuDeku. It should be noted this is my opinion and even if you don’t disagree I ask you respect it.

To be noted that this is a continuation of @thatoneanimequeen post on it as well

I will preface this by saying I don’t actually hate the ship in an of itself I hate the main ways that it is executed and I especially hate the idea that this a viable ship at all if canon isn’t basically rewritten which says a lot that I only am willing to accept it when you rewrite basically the entire story.

This ship would be outright toxic. Bakugou has bullied Izuku for at least 8 years and a max of ten years of his life. That means Bakugou has bullied Izuku for around two thirds of his life by the time of the first episode of canon. Bakugou verbally assaults Izuku basically every time he talks to him. Calling someone literally useless is messed up plain and simple. Bakugou also has been attacking Izuku for as long as he’s been bullying Izuku so eight to ten years depending on the timeline. I know some people say that oh he doesn’t usually use his quirk on Izuku and when he does it’s not as bad as what we’ve seen. But we saw Izuku as a child get beat up by Bakugou for doing the right thing. We know that him attacking Izuku in the middle of a classroom with his quirk isn’t uncommon. No one even bats an eye when he does it the teacher couldn’t care less. So this ship at its most basic level is between a jack ass with an aggressive and explosive personality and his verbal and physical punching bag for ten literal years who he suicide baited.

Speaking of suicide baiting let’s go to that. Bakugou suicide baited Izuku with no remorse at the moment. When Bakugou’s cronies asked if he maybe he went to far Bakugou blew then off. Some may argue this is Bakugou being Bakugou but he still to this point has not apologized for it so that’s not even a decent argument or excuse or reason.

Finally let’s get to the meat and potatoes of everything that happens in UA. Bakugou has at this point got Izuku to the point of flinching at every time he even looks at him weirdly. Bakugou tried to attack Izuku in the quirk exams Aizawa made, was so self centered he assumed Izuku was willingly going through suffering for up to ten years of just to look down on him which is stupid. Bakugou tried to kill Izuku in the battle trials and knew he could kill Izuku it wasn’t even accidental he literally shouts he won’t die if he dodged even though Izuku has basically nowhere to dodge. He punched Izuku in their final exams, dragged him out to fight for his own self interest getting Izuku in trouble and just overal he was being an absolute menace to Izuku 24/7.

The idea of these two getting together after all this is insane. He may have changed but Bakugou has a literal decade of shit to make up for. This ship is literally just “wouldn’t it be cool if Izuku got together with the person who you could argue out right abused him for a decade.” It’s utter madness and infuriating.

This all on top of the fact that Bakugou’s reasoning is beyond stupid and petty. It’s literally either one of two things. Either Bakugou was jealous and genuinely thought that somehow a scrawny quirkless child would be a better hero than him which makes negative logical sense and honestly incorrect if Bakugou was even a semi decent human being which apparently he would be if he wasn’t jealous or Bakugou for some reason thought Izuku was looking down on him 24/7 since they were four which makes arguably even less sense but is probably an overall better reason for what he did sense it just means he an emotionally constipated idiot with anger issues instead of a jealous asshole who for some reason saw fiction/potential future as reality and set in stone in which he proceeded to absolutely ruin a friends life over it for a reason that basically amounts to you might be as good as me so you must suffer. So he’s damned if he does damned if he doesn’t in both reasons.

Schwartzwald - Do they recall any scary stories from their childhood?

Not sure if this quite counts, but a lot of people thought the house he grew up in was haunted. People who visited would often report seeing strange shadows and floating lights near some of the upstairs windows. He caught a brief glimpse once or twice of said ghostly apparitions as a boy and it nearly scared him half to death. He dove under his bed and didn’t come out from hiding until the next morning after the sun was up. (He learned MUCH later that it was actually Peter and Tink—Peter being the older brother he never met who had mysteriously vanished and was presumed dead.)

Skintight - If they had a YouTube channel or TV show, what would it be about?

Hmm…probably a music channel where he could show off his skills on the harpsichord and piano. He’d play mostly classical music with perhaps the occasional venture into soundtrack themes along with his own original works. He’d refuse to do covers of most modern songs, though, especially on his beloved harpsichord because he feels like it would be disrespectful of the instrument. (He is not a fan of most modern songs and often refers to it as “noise” rather than music.)

Boatswain’s Call - What was their longest journey?

Technically he has gone between entirely different realms just going to and from Neverland. But in terms of more real-world distance…back in his heyday as a pirate, he made journeys between the Caribbean and Britain periodically. Those journeys took about a month each way if they didn’t make any stops at other ports along the way.

Anatomy Class - What were their favorite and least favorite classes in school?

Back in the days when he was in school, the subjects taught were rather limited. (Eton originally taught Latin alone, then later added Greek. Math was only added as a subject in the mid-1800s, and others added on later.) So I’m going to cheat a bit and also include things he studied on his own time like navigation, botany, poetry, music, and astronomy.

Honestly, I think he would be hard-pressed to pick a favorite. He enjoys learning and is self-taught in many areas. But I think music might be his favorite subject, followed closely by classic literature and poetry. He finds them both relaxing and deeply moving. As for his least favorite…he finds math extremely useful in terms of navigating and daily life on a ship but terribly dull and a rather cold, lifeless subject. He sees its value but it isn’t a subject he finds especially interesting.

Infestation - What do they think of bugs? Are they squeamish?

Bugs definitely weren’t uncommon aboard a ship in the Age of Sail, particularly those that traveled long distances (weevils in the hardtack) and to tropical regions (mosquitoes), so he isn’t exactly squeamish about them…but he definitely doesn’t have any fondness for them or want them on his person. He picked up malaria once during his days in the Caribbean and barely survived it.

The first time he saw a fairy, he thought it was a giant bug and only realized (to his great shock!) that the creature looked like a tiny human with wings when she flew up in his face after nearly being swatted with a rolled up map. What shocked him even more was when he realized he could actually understand what Tink was saying.

I mean, I’ll never tire of Percy discussions, so Percy for the HC ask game…

Sexuality HC: Biromantic demi/grey asexual. He needs trust - a fucklot of trust given his trauma - before he might find himself attracted to someone, but he can be attracted to someone regardless of gender. At the end of the day, he likes them.

That said, I think he has some poshboy hangups around same-sex attraction for a long time - not unlike Tary, honestly (as he says, they’re sheltered) - and I think that even once he gets used to the idea of same-sex attraction being absolutely fine not just as a “fine and magic and/or adoption can let you have heirs” kind of thing (largely due to the twins’ blatant bisexuality, almost certainly), I think he still has some hang-ups around anal sex in general both because of those hang-ups with same-sex attraction and also because of his studies in biology and nature so while he knows about the prostate he also thinks of the arse as for shitting and the idea of the two in one is something that makes him bluescreen and not in the good way.

Vex probably helps him through it, eventually, but I feel like it takes some time, becuase Percy overthinks basically everything.

Favorite ship(s): Perc’ahlia. I know I write an uncommon amount of Percy/Ripley but it is pretty much always with the endgoal of Percy/Vex. Because... Vex and Percy are good for each other. They help each other grow and recover. They love each other so dearly and utterly and tenderly - tender as the bruises they both each bear and god fuck but it’s good okay.

Brotp: Percy and Keyleth are just the fucking best, okay. I’ve already rambled about that in the Keyleth answer (albeit as why they’re a NOTP) so go Here for that to be elaborated.

Notp: Perc’ildan. Cass/Percy and Keyleth/Percy are the close seconds but the thing is Perc’ildan is more common and. I just cannot see it going anyway but catastrophically tits up. As in.

They might hook up because Percy’s exploring his sexuality and Vax can acknowledge a pretty face but neither of them is at all capable of Casual so it ends up becoming a Thing but they’re also such absolute opposites it catastrophically implodes with a massive, acrimonious break-up and that is then seething in the background if and when Perc’ahlia happens.

That’s how I see Perc’ildan going. In just about any universe. It’s not just the events of canon, it’s that Percy and Vax have diametrically opposed worldviews and while that’s what brings Percy and Keyleth and Vax and Keyleth together, those differing worldviews, it would just fuck with EVERYTHING with Vax and Percy together.

Happy HC: Percy spent some time sailing. Percy spent time on boats, with sailors when he was a traumatised, dissociating mess. Percy absolutely knows sea shanties.

Please consider Percy singing sea-shanties under his breath as he works. Please consider Pike, on her return from the Broken Howl, singing sea-shanties and everyone being adorably surprised when Percy joins in without thinking.

Please consider Pike using this in future because he always expects the others to pull this shit but never her.

Angsty HC: Percy absolutely still has small pieces of the bullets which killed him in his body. He knows where they are. He doesn’t tell anyone.

Random HC: I will die on this hill but Percy with acne scars.

Percy is kind of the ugly duckling of Vox Machina - Pike the lil angel, Scanlan so charming, Grog so hench, team half-elf... he’s the dowdy human amongst them all. And I feel like his particular pride, especially when its the love potion incident and as he says “Is it so hard to believe someone might be attracted to me?”, his self-deprecation with Vex - yeah I think he has acne scars. They’re faint by this point, nowhere near as obvious as his torture scars, but they’re there.

I also think he likes the buttflap pyjamas because they cover up so much more of him than regular pyjamas, including his torture scars and he hates showing those scars to other people, that reminder of when he was rendered down into this terrified, raw thing on Ripley’s table.

General opinion: I fucking love Percy as a character. If I met him in person within only a few minutes of meeting him I would want to punt him down a flight of stairs.

God he can be insufferable. God he’s such a well-crafted character. God damn you Taliesin Jaffe.

I really don't know how to phrase this in a way that doesn't sound weird, but I feel like DCLA shows stuck to you more if you went through puberty while watching one of them.

I'll explain: Many people that saw Violetta especially and saw it when they were like 6-9 years old, I feel like many of them just see it as "yeah I used to watch it as a kid and now it's nostalgic. But it's a kids show, i'm not interested in watching it anymore" (ofc, there are some who were around that age watching and are big DCLA fans today, but many people around that age barely think about it anymore)

But us who were around 10-13 when we watched, I feel like... we got another kind of attachment to it? Both that we could analyse and understand the show/s better than someone who was younger, but also... for some of us, we felt things watching the show. Especially some scenes.

11 year old me watched the On Beat performance a little too many times. I know someone who when she was 12 watched the Si es por amor mv and felt feelings she hated that she felt back then, but she couldn't stop watching because she was so intrigued and fascinated with it for some reason...

In sixth grade, for us who watched Violetta, we legit made up who would date who of the boys. And it wasn't just "omg he's pretty" like I think some of us actually had developed some real crushes. Especially the girl who had claimed Leon, she was full-on self-shipping with him (12 year olds... they be like that).

Then also, there has always been some more edgy and dirty fics of the shows. I remember being 12-13 and finding the most smuttiest of fics of Leonetta on like, wattpad, written by (PROBABLY) other 13 year olds.

Now, of course, i'm not saying "oh because us who went through puberty when watching have a more dirty view of the show/s" cause that's not the case for many. But I do think that being around middle school aged, you're going through changes and you watch a mostly child-friendly show that's NOT afraid to have pretty intense kissing scenes for a kids show... it sticks with you.

Now, I dont' know if I make any sense at all. Perhaps no one who was this age when watching for the first time really felt like that and it was only a very small amount. Maybe even people who were younger could see some things in a way that probably wasn't intended.

But bottom line is, I feel like at least 80% of the people who saw a DCLA show when they were younger and still love it today have been around 10-13 years old when first watching. Cause even if people were 6-9 years old when first watching, I feel like it's more uncommon for the younger fans to still hang around today.

"Intersex is a sex, not a gender"

Putting this to the side because I'm intersex, I've had Perisex(non-intersex people) genuinely say this and yes, people can and have and will describe their gender as Intergender/intersex. It just means that because your intersex, you can't nessesarily be labeled as cis or trans or nonbinary. Your technically cis because you identify with your gender/sex assigned at birth and that gender/sex is intersex. Technically the label is cintersex/cintergender but Intergender is basically the same. It just means your gender is your intersexuality. It's not that complicated and if you arnt Intergender, especially if you arnt intersex at all, you have no business telling us what our gender can and can't be.

How does a 3 year old know their full gender, sexuality and pronouns?

They don't! The guide is applicable to them throughout their whole lives. That 3 year old doesn't know that their polyam and bi right at that age but when they grow up, they will know and that will be their orientation and relationship desires. The ages present are really just to show the age differences between them, their siblings and the other ship kids. That 3 yr old has a version of them in a timeline right now where they are 30 years old, its all relative.

i don’t understand the desire to be up on your ship partner’s nuts 24/7 // i know you’re not looking for a serious answer, but i feel like this just accidentally happens over time in most cases. you get used to spending time together, especially when one or both of you have break/vacation together. then you start prioritizing the ship and it might spiral. i’d like to believe toxic ships like the ones described recently on here are still considered more uncommon, but in those cases, it really is a combination of people looking for real relationships via rp, crossing boundaries, guilt-tripping, not wanting to be alone, narcissism, bullying, etc.

when this happened to me, it was sort of a mixture of everything. i was diagnosed late with autism. i really enjoy structure and became way too comfortable with the schedule of spending time with my ship partner every day, who had severe anxiety and was self-admittedly manipulative about the ship later on. thankfully, we both recognized it, even though the ship did get really, really bad… it was getting in the way of our social lives in real life, our grades, etc., so we had a long talk about it. we set a time limit to save pictures and take screenshots, then deleted our mewe accounts at the same time so we’d have no real pull to come back. we said one last goodbye and blocked each other on discord as well. it was hard, but it was the best for both of us. nowadays, i purposefully keep a distance from ship partners to focus more on dms and writing while saving hyperbeam/gaming for every once in a while.

Wherever the young Motherguards ran, laughter followed.  

It wasn’t uncommon to catch the two of them at play in their off hours, chasing one another through Mother’s gardens, darting beneath the spray of the automatic waterers, weaving between the legs of their older cohort members.  Perhaps it wasn’t entirely fitting of their station, but it was an open secret that the latest recruits were barely more than hatchlings, still in their final adolescent instar.  And besides… Mother’s chambers could always use a bit more laughter, especially in those dour days. 

Today, however, they had already twice caught a scolding from the Commander of the Guard and wary of receiving a third, had taken their play elsewhere. Kajj had only endured a mere halfhour of quiet reading within their chambers before he had turned to Qud with a grin and suggested that they should go exploring instead.His hatch-mate had heartily resisted at first, always the more sensible of the pair. 

“It’s off limits for a reason,” he had sang, chest clicking with the self-righteous annoyance Kajj had come to expect. But who could resist the call of adventure?  It had only taken a few longing sighs and a casual mention of the ship’s propulsion systems and inertial dampeners to change his hatchmate’s tune.  How easy, in hindsight, to hate himself for the manipulation.  To come to resent his ability to alter the other’s mood. 

Getting there had been an exciting adventure in and of itself.  Qud’s eyes had nearly glowed with the excitement of slipping past the Guards, using their training to bypass the security systems meant to keep unauthorized members of the colony out.  Kajj could still remember the way his pulse had raced, his body nearly singing with the thrum of his coron as they hid within the shadows, ducking behind consoles and crates, crawling into the service tunnels to escape the regular patrols.  

When they reached the great humming core of the ship, Kajj knew it had all been worth it just to see the complete and utter awe that swept over Qud’s face. What other time would they have been allowed to witness such a remarkable feat of vincam engineering?  Together they had laughed and whispered, running their hands over sleek input panels, gasping in quiet delight at the sight of the flagship’s massive and powerful engine.  The air thrummed wildly with it, even as the flagship idled, and Kajj could feel the vibrations of it within his chest as if it was his very own song.  

Had the day ended there, it could have been one of Kajj’s most precious memories.  Had they slipped quietly back out of the room, he could have remembered it as a present he had given to his hatchmate, an adventure filled with youthful mischief, but no true harm.  Had he any control over the flow of time, he would have stopped the day right there and he would do so over and over again in his dreams. 

But of course, reality was another matter altogether.

Kajj was running his hands along one of the sleek plasma conduits when Qud had grabbed his arm, yanking him back into the shadows.  Kajj frowned but followed his lead, though it didn’t take long for him to pick up what Qud had as well -- footsteps, heading rapidly their way, only just audible beneath the mighty thrum of the ship’s engines. 

“--intruders, somewhere in the engine room,” a voice had hissed, their song low and angry as it approached the Motherguard’s hiding place.  “Someone with *access codes*.  Alert the Motherguard.  This could be serious.”

“Shit,” Kajj cursed.  Commander Essin was going to have their shells for pottery!  Dreck and dross, but it was always his stupidity dragging Qud down with him, wasn’t it?  They were going to be running laps for sure.  

It was only when he turned to exchange an apologetic look with his hatchmate that he realized. 

 Qud was looking at him in exasperated horror.  

The bootsteps had stopped. 

Well.  Shit again. 

The pair of them burst from their hiding spot a bare jit later, slipping just beneath the grasping hands of the Guard as they scrambled up out back towards the entrance.  

Kajj had taken the lead, his slightly longer legs affording him a small advantage over Qud, and his boldness taking him through tight and dangerous paths through the bowels of the ship without hesitation.  The pair of them were small, but they were strong, they were fast.  They could use that to their advantage. 

They had nearly reached the service elevator when the bulkheads started closing, the doors slamming down faster and faster behind them, their clearance smaller and smaller along the way.  Just a few more doorways and they would be out!  

Kajj couldn’t help but laugh, a grin spreading across his face as he pushed himself harder, racing the slamming doors, knowing that soon the pair of them would be safely back in Mother’s chambers and beneath her wings, free from the wrath of the others with one more grand story to tell -- “Kajj!” Qud had called out behind him, his song high and a little fearful.  “Kajj, stop!  We’re not going to make it!” Kajj had trilled back at him, raising a hatchling’s buzzing war-song, drunk on adventure and excitement and daring, dropping to his knees to slide beneath the penultimate door, the final already closing ahead, the elevator in sight…! //*WARNING!! Proximity analysis -- at our current rate of speed--*// “I can make it!” he sang, laughing, joyful as he dropped once more into the slide -- shit that was awfully low, wasn’t it? -- the door lowering more quickly that he would have thought -- fuck, oh shit, I-- he threw out his hands behind him, claws digging into the floor tiles but too late, too late -- Kajj’s world exploded into a white hot lightning strike of pain.  

Someone was screaming. 

He was pretty sure it was him.  

The world splintered into shards -- The hot spill of magenta beneath his hips, floor slick, cracking his head in panic against the floor.  

Angry voices buzzing around him, the words sharp and indistinct. 

Hot bile and cold shivering waves, wracking his body, his world shuddering apart in a choking, gasping knot of indescribable pain, reality warping in an attempt to accommodate it, to try and process the signals that were flooding his brain.  

Familiar arms wrapped around him, floor dropping out beneath him, flailing panicking, he wasn’t ready -- it wasn’t his time to go! 

Qud’s fearful face above him, now bleeding -- hands slick.  Had he done that?  Who had done that? He couldn’t *think*... !

White robes and sea-green eyes. A gentle song and then cool peace swept through him, cold numbness replacing the panicked heat. 

Beeping monitors and hushed arguments that floated in through the haze, one voice rising above the others,  just one final phrase before the cool darkness pulled him under. 

 “I’m sorry, Mother. He’s broken.”

Mobile Rules

Hello there! Welcome to my rules post! These rules are password protected so please keep an eye out for it! You can send me an ask or DM me the password so I know you’ve read them and want to interact. This is a side blog so asks/follows will come from @sleepytime-muses, url for other blogs will be specified.

General roleplay etiquette applies. No god modding, no controlling my characters, etc. Literate roleplays are my go-to unless they are crack/joking with others and dash commentary. You are not obligated to match my length and vice versa, but do put some effort into the writing! I use icons as well that I make myself and format my lettering. If you want to write and find my formatting difficult to read, just let me know and I will happily use plain text. Also, if you are new to roleplaying/writing on Tumblr, I probably won’t write with you. I also prefer people who use XKit to trim posts and make them better to read. Do not approach me for strictly 18+ roleplays. Do not ask me to write characters for you that aren’t on my muse list, unless so prompted or we’re close. Do not ask me to write your harem for you.

Plotting is important to me, but not absolutely necessary. I enjoy knowing where to push the plot towards for better and more efficient writing. However, I am very capable of spur of the moment interactions so feel free to do either. If we’re mutuals, always feel free to send in ask memes and such I’ve reblogged even if we haven’t interacted before.

With my muses coming from all types of moral backgrounds, please don’t take anything said as beliefs or morals of the mun (Me.) Sometimes bad guys say bad things, sometimes good guys say bad things. I also write my characters the way I want to, which takes canon and inserts personal headcanons into blank spaces and such. I write as true to character as I can, but if you don’t care for how I portray them, then that’s fine. Take your business elsewhere! I’m gonna be sitting here playing dolls with others in peace.

Activity can be spacey. I love to write but irl responsibilities take priority. As a wage slave and an artist, I dip often. But I almost always lurk so feel free to send messages/asks. I promise I see them, its just getting around to them that’s the issue.

Original Characters and Crossovers can be hard for me to write with. Not impossible, just difficult. If I believe I can’t properly write with your character, I will let you know when you show interest. If you write a character from a franchise I’m not familiar with, I’m also less likely to write with you. I hate going in the dark when it comes to writing partners. A bio page is a great start for anything oc or non-canon related. Also, I have no issues with people who make self inserts, but I do not write with them at all. Please don’t approach me if your character is a self insert.

Triggering content will be tagged, if you have specific triggers that are uncommon I will tag them for you with a tw [CONTENT] tag. I try to pay attention to other people’s rules and general discomforts, so if I write something you don’t want to see, I’ll do my best to tag. I’m not perfect though, so let me know if I need to do something.

I love shipping. Anything NSFW will be taken to my nsfw blog. This includes adult cartoons or triggering characters that I want to keep off my main. I will not write anything NSFW with minors, it is an 18+ blog. I prefer to write with people who are 18+ already in any case. I am multi-ship so feel free to initiate with any character. Just respect my choices and I will respect yours!

playing outer worlds as sparrow b/c it’s a fun way to develop a character, and also now i have a character to do Bad Runs with. though i’m quickly realizing that sparrow isn’t the Evil For The Sake Of Evil kind of character, like i’m not picking ALL the worst options for them just because they’re my shitty kid.

just got past edgewater and picked the town over the deserters, with my logic being less ‘this is the Bad Option’ and more ‘this is the Easy Option’. sparrow takes a look at edgewater and the deserters and sees who’s gonna be more trouble when they come for the power regulator. edgewater has loads of people and guards with guns funded by a corporation, the deserters are just a handful of randos. that’s all the convincing sparrow needs. they don’t try to convince adelaide to come back, and they don’t kill tobson, because they have no need to do either. there’s no benefit to them to do that. and, frankly, having an ally in tobson/spacer’s choice might be good for them.

talking specifically about video games or more violent AUs and not just regular-people AUs, i’m thinking that sparrow is generally totally fine with murder but it’s not usually their first choice. sparrow prefers using manipulation and charm where they can, making deals and trades, finding temporary allies and avoiding burning bridges if they don’t have to.

the vibe i get from sparrow is that they are selfish and interested only in self-preservation and personal enjoyment, and don’t trust or care for anyone else around them. people suck and if they wouldn’t stab you in the back to get a leg up then they’re stupid and bound to get stabbed themselves eventually. sparrow’s general disgust with people as a whole isn’t something they wear on their sleeve, though, because they CAN be very surface-level charming and only drop the act once they realize it’s not working or if they have no further use for an individual. at this point in TOW it’s not surprising that parvati has a generally positive perception of sparrow. while not being especially friendly, sparrow helped edgewater (because it was the easier choice), made sure some of the deserters were convinced to come back so they’d have a safe place to live (because that’s what tobson wanted and sparrow wanted an ally in him), and has helped several individuals (for money). they also haven’t been overtly rude yet and only really shot down parvati once when she asked if they knew what affect their actions would have. and the game doesn’t recognize this fully but they also completely ignored her suggestion to talk to max, that was also a rude choice on their part, but y’know. so from her perspective sparrow has been decently chill and helped out her home and let her join them on their ship (so they have a mechanic handy). i feel like it’s not uncommon for people to think that sparrow is much more chill than they actually are, because that’s how sparrow tries to present themself.

i’ll see more specifics as i play the game, but i’m sure there will be other choices in this run that are the ‘good’ or ‘better’ option because of however sparrow has rationalized it. where them being a shithead is really going to show is when they pick the board over welles in the end, because the board has money and sparrow doesn’t care about the other colonists or welles himself. which will be rough because i me avery care very much about welles. but we do what we must for character development.
