So one of the most lore-indepth wildcards of Wild Life would be the superpowers that relates past seasons of the Life Series and acknowledges other series (eg. Hermitcraft and Evo) and their personal lore to attribute to each participant's power.

Starting alphabetically,

Bdubs power is essentially all related to time and his ability to manipulate the day cycle expentially. With the clock being his main motif across all Life Series, the ability to slow and speed time according to his will is easily solvable but with the inclusion of the Hermitcraft and Empires crossover event, his ability to speed time according to his sleep schedule becomes another layer deep. Besides the clock being a main symbol for Bdubs, the concept of sleep is another that has essentially been from the beginning of Hermitcraft. Always carrying a bed and sleeping whenever. The Empires crossover Bdubs was framed as a god of sorts of the Sun. Always bright and always there when the Sun remained as its brightest.

Bigb can summon creaking. He creaking. He is like a king or dimplomant to the players who invade their home and they view him as their kin so he has the responsibility and power to summon them.

Ethoslab based of Kakashi from Naruto is by definition a ninja. An escapee or fugitive at best. So with his ability to jump higher boosted by wind charges can be explained by his connection to the shonen series and the inclusion of the mace could be chalked up to typically stories of protagonists gaining resources or inventory to defeat the "Big Bad" or achieve some sort of goal that is to win the Life Series.

GeminiTay or GeminiSlay named by others intimidated by her, has slayed each participant brutally in the Life Series and on Hermitcraft rewarding her the reputation from her immense PvP skills. So with her power of astral projection, it acts retribution for the slayed to talk and apologise or instigate to those dead for her or others benefit.

GoodTimeWithScar is nortorious for being not PG friendly so the inclusion of one of his powers been the ability to ride people, it's self explanatory. Yet as Scar is commonly associated with and as a vex, his other powers of extreme knockback and thorns can be explained by the hostile and aggressivness of the mob.

Grian as essentially the grandmaster or orchestrator of the Life Series would have access to all the powers and mimic but not fully copy the others' powers. Yet because of his power chained by an omnipresent force, he's unable to fully copy the powers but imitate them for only short periods of time.

ImpulseSV and his teleportation powers could derive from his cyber-theme aesthetic for his Hermitcraft Season X base. With most series of fictions based around cyberpunk civilisations, technologies like teleporation and other advanced transportational devices are commonly utilsed. Resulting in Impulse's power of teleportation and the ability to swap the position of another with himself.

Martyn power is boosted hearing cause he's a Listener.

So Lizzie or LDShadowLady's inflicts blindless or a shadow upon the surrounding people in her radius and resulting her in temporary invisibility and blindess to others around her. But from her endless descent into the void in Secret Life, arises Lizzie with trails of the void clinging to grasp the light of the overworld. Causing the void remnants to spread to others and infect them with blindness in all for the hope to spread towards the light from the cold world of the End.

With the ability to fly, PearlescentMoon carries aesthetics relating to Greek mythology in both her powers and external design choices. As one of the Postmasters of Hermitcraft, Pearl is essentially the builder and additional redstone help of the trio for the postoffice and other aesthetic designs. Hermes the herald or messenger of the Olympus gods delievers messages to other celestial dieties and mortals similar to Pearl's jobs as a Postmaster. Other than the similar professions, both Pearl and Hermes wear a petasos which is essentially a wide-brimmed hat that is commoly adorned for shade and for Hermes, additional wings to the sides of the hat. Symbolising their shared ability to fly quickly and efficiently for a purpose.

As RentheDog is commonly interpreted as a dog-hybrid of sorts by the Hermitcraft and Life Series community, his ability to splice and copy the DNA of others to match their appearance could be an aftermath or positive side-effect from his hybrid mutation.

Similar to Ren, Scott has the capability to transform into any mob in sight and similar to Limited Life where he was depicted as a siren as part of the Mean Gills. His ability to shape-shift into any mob regardless if it's passive or aggressive could be similar to his mutliple origins from New Life SMP and Origin SMP and the reflect the changing nature of his powers.

So Joel with essentially triple jump could be hinting his slimely origins of his Shrek skin in the swamp. Where the swamp generally spawns slimes at a higher rate than other slime chunks and slime blocks harvested from the slimes can be used as jump boosts. Resulting in the triple jump.

After just breaking the Canary Curse two seasons ago, SolidarityGaming or Jimmy has the power to turn fully invisible until someone or something damages him. Ever since his debut to the Watchers back in Evo, Jimmy has been under constant surveillance by the Watchers as an object of their amusement. Always failing to reach even the finale and fumbling to keep alive. Yet when he broke the curse and relayed it too another, he was discarded. Seen invisible to the Watchers as he had become an object of boredom by reaching his resolution. So that's where his invisibility comes from.

Tango with his cowardly approach to things, has constantly ran away from situations but with this power, it supercharges his speed allowing him to become part of the fight and conflict instead of running away. And with his ability to frost-walk on ice, it could recall his Season 9's skin back when he was the Dungeon Master in Decked Out II and became an icy persona.

This is less of a theory and more of an au but I adore the idea that Taurtis/Joeyish is hanging around life series. Hes only connected through the life series by a thin piece of fishing wire, you can’t even see it but it’s THERE

Taurtis has been stuck in the downside up years before life series even started, but he’s still got a connection to the watchers. We’ve been getting a lot more watcher content in the past couple of seasons, and I like to imagine that Taurtis has just been watching along with them

He’s not a watcher, nor a listener. He’s just there, and he’s been traveling timeline after timeline again and again.

headcanon: watchers cannot have physical eyes because it limits their ability to use their kind of godly vision. they see through their magic and having physical eyes would block the watcher from concentrating on their watcher vision (this is kinda like the "see with your heart not your eyes" stuff but its deity powers instead.)

because of this, when grian became a watcher, the other watchers gouged his eyes out in order to accomodate his new watcher powers.

however, beings below the watchers cannot comprehend watchers' eyes (they can get the feeling that theyre being watched when they get too close but they cant see it)

soooooo, since they cannot perceive watcher eyes their brains fill the void in grian's eyes with his signature soulless bug eyes (kinda similar to how theres no photoreceptors on the start(?) of the optic nerve so if the light falls there (in the blindspot) you cannot perceive it and your brain fills it in for you (however here instead of there being no receptors its just that they arent advanced(?) enough to form an image of watcher eyes)

hopefully this made sense but i am so insane about this because of that one clip where grian said that his character's eyes werent actually real

The speculative biology of crystal gems

So i dont know why i thought this but this randomly popped into my head but i was wondering how crystal gems from steven universe work on a biological level and so i got a theory to share. As we know the crystal gems form is just a physical hologram that can be touched and touch things, And that the crystal gems themselves are their gems, Now i also read all tomorrows and so of course i bet you can see where this is going. So what if the crystal gems are like the gravitals, so basically the crystal gems in my theory are almost microscopic organisms that once born are put into a casing (gem), and that the injectors (which intentionally look like bacteriophage that inject dna into bodies) inject crystal gems into earth and perhaps thats their form of asexual reproduction, them birthing a gem and encasing it while injecting it into a planet to absorb organic material to make up their hologram.

Theory Time (based off my last couple of posts)

During Secret Life the Secret Keeper statue rock thing looks a lot like a Watcher, Grian's thumbnail further confirms this by putting himself into the the statues robe.

I am assuming that the Secret Keeper is an ancient statue of the Watchers that someone created, this is either to a message to Martyn saying that they will be back or message to Jimmy to show that they aren't going to leave him alone. Hell! It could be to scare Grian into submission (since we know that Grian doesn't listen to the Watchers... Ever). It could really be anything, but I think it's the latter.

The Watchers show their distain for Grian multiple times. Granted only once in the Life Series but several in Evo after he leaves and while he's still there. They resent him for disobeying them and leaving them. They think that making Grian a Watcher is the highest achievement, like a "badge of honor" of some sort. So Grian actively avoiding that "achievement" is insulting to them.

That's why he's got the Black Widow curse, that's why they hate him, that's why they pin Martyn against him any chance they get. Because they are mad at Grian, and Martyn is the only one they can get under their control seeing as Bigb and Pearl want nothing to do with them and Jimmy is like their little play thing (joke not intended). Martyn is really the only one they can get thier grimy little hands on.

So why would they use a statue instead of going after Grian themselves or with Martyn again?

Simple!

I don't think they can!

Why wouldn't they go after Grian themselves after 3rd Life? Why wait until Last Life to have Martyn of all people do it for them? Why don't they just directly interfere? They can't. They literally. Can't.

They can interfere in the games from afar but when it comes to entering them I think they struggle. Its why they only speak to Martyn through riddles until he "dies" and is off the server, now a spectator. (Last Life)

They can possess Martyn all they like, they can curse Jimmy, Grian, and Scott but at the end of the day Grian is the admin. He is also a Watcher.

I think Grian put up some sort of protection spell or a ban or something like that to keep the Watchers from actually gaining access to the server.

So they did the next best thing. They put down a statue. A statue that is there to instill fear in Ex-Evo members and cause slight confusion from the normal players. (Bar Scott. I'll get to that another time.)

The point is the statue is there to intimidate Grian, make his scared. Make him feel like he'll lose control of the whole thing until eventually he does. Scare him into doing their bidding. And then all hell can break loose.

Pokemon review: Ditto

(No review requests in the inbox right now, so I'll be doing this. No random generation this time as most Pokemon have been reviewed at this point.)

Ditto is probably one of the most straightforward ideas for a shapeshifter you can get—it can become anything, so its base form is nothing but a simple blob, similar to the classic RPG dungeon slime. In all honestly I do prefer something like the Zorua line that has a unique design by default in addition to copying other Pokemon, but Ditto is undeniably pretty cute. I like its silly little :) face and the sort of implied arm nubbins.

One thing I will note about Ditto is that it's never been consistent color-wise; sometimes it's a lavenderish purple and sometimes it's bright pink. It's not really a problem per say, but it is strange that it's never had a standardized color after all these years. (I personally like the pink more, for the record; the purple feels a bit washed out, a common problem among Gen 1 mons.)

Another notable thing about Ditto is the way its transforming works. People generally associate it with shapeshifting everything but it's face, resulting in normal Pokemon with hilarious :) faces. This has been seen everywhere from the anime to the TCG cards.

However, this... isn't really a thing in the games. This idea was introduced in an episode of the anime, wherein the face thing was a flaw that one specific Ditto had that got fixed by the end of the episode. In the games, Ditto can and does shapeshift with 100% accuracy. While they do occasionally use this for interesting gimmicks (such as SV having random wild Pokemon be Ditto), I'm honestly a big fan of the :) face transformations and think that should've been the norm. It adds so much personality and flavor, which is much needed in a Pokemon that just mimics others and has very little going on in its true form.

I also might as well point out that there's been a long-standing theory that Ditto is the result of failed attempts at cloning Mew. This has already been confirmed to have not been the intent in interviews, but honestly, I do like the idea even if it was completely unintentional. There is just something a bit odd, even by Pokemon standards, about a blob that just can shapeshift into anything that isn't a legendary/mythical (like Mew) and is actually transforming (unlike the Zorua line, who are just disguising themselves with illusions). Like, it definitely feels weird to just see an undisguised Ditto out and about in the grass in SV after a reset. But I digress.

Bizarrely, at one point Ditto was considered for an evolution in Gen 2 with this screaming thing that evolved via a metal coat of all things. Not only does it not feel like an evo so much as a Different Ditto, but it's also just strange to give a evo (or a regional, or anything, really) to a Pokemon who's entire thing is being other Pokemon. I'm not even sure how it would differentiate itself mechanically—maybe the idea is that anything it shifts into would gain steel typing or something? Either way, best this was scrapped.

Overall, a super simple Pokemon with a straightforward gimmick, with its only issue being that it honestly isn't quite gimmicky enough.

So when the Archivist find a planet capable of sustaining life but currently without life, they... Release single celled organisms? ...Just to archive them in the future? That's so odd to me.

Why not just wait, is archiving some sort of deep-seated urge or instinct that they NEED to do? Isn't it counterproductive to not just let life naturally develop, or is artificially creating new life apart of the reason they exist?

The short answer (its kinda a tdlr, the text got long)

So life develops slowly and needs stable conditions, what is hader when things like stars have finite lifespans (our Sun is already halfway through!). The Starchildren can’t create life or bring it back, and not all planets have the right conditions for it to start in time when planet is habitable, but might adapt once it’s there. They treat planets bit like gardens in a region where apocalypses are common, with the Archive serving as a storage for seeds, saplings, and tools. Its more usable and not as much lifeless museum of life

Most planets do well on their own, so only parts are collected but beyond that left alone, and some are destroyed or struggle to progress beyond microbes. In those cases, they might step in to improve conditions or remove threats. Sometimes, they just observe how life adapts to what chaos it has. If it can.

There are also personal reasons for work, things like attachment or desire for control, but their mission began when the first life-sustaining planet was destroyed, leaving them alone in the void believing everything was lost forever. When life SLOWLY re-emerged on other worlds, they began preserving and protecting it, spreading across the void.

Long answer under the cut

Life in general develops extremely slowly. Earth is around 4.5 bln years old (Ga), it's estimated that it took around 1,1Ga to go from anoxygenic bacteria to aerobic bacteria (after some ox producing bacteria ruined the party for all those who couldnt deal with it, also called Great Oxygenation Event). From there, it took roughly 0,5 Ga for eukaryotic cells to develop. Shortly after (like 0.1 Ga), life transitioned from single-celled to multicellular organisms. In comparison it took 1.7 Ga for evolution to progress from algae to humans—about 1.6x faster than the journey from primordial soup to microbes

There could be planets capable of supporting life that are just off the mark, preventing organic material from developing well enough. Some might have all the right conditions but lack the right combination of energy sources, maybe too far from a star, maybe something else. But, once life forms and we get a "Last Universal Common Ancestor" (LUCA) It could spiral to the point where, as on Earth, almost no surface remains untouched by life (you really don’t want to know how many bacteria are on your phone). But thats only really because life got a really good footing here. If a catastrophic event wiped out all complex life, bacteria adapted to extreme would probably be fine and maybe evolve further.

If primitive cells formed under specific conditions and those suddenly changed, all that progress could halt or go back entierly to a primordial soup (Going with the Heterotrophic Theory, this is my gen favourite term for this, soup). And there is another aspect. Suns are not eternal; our sun, at ~4.5 Ga, is already halfway through its lifecycle before becoming a red giant. At that point, Earth will lose its "habitable" status. If Earth went through a hard reset, and assuming everything went the same, next intelligent life might be one witness their star’s death, sooo there is a finite window of habitability.

Each evo step is faster than the last one, Archivists intervene at mostly early stages making the beginning bit smoother, more controlled. They aim to make planets with potential more habitable or stoping them from losing it. For example they might create an atmosphere if one lacks it but is otherwise perfect, and past that let life develop naturally.

And even with perfect conditions, factors like astronomical events could mess up whole process. In the infinite space it's not really a question of if but more which planet heads into a catastrophe, so they stay around. Archive functions like a backup, preserving progress where possible. If a planet faces extinction, they might change the enviroment, whatever is esponsible for it, maybe introduce creatures more capable of surviving—or even short-lived organisms, some that arent meant to survive but will provide enough short term nutrients for the native organisms to pull through.

That being said they usually try to avoid too much interferance, sometimes its just patching up small element before it becomes an problem. But sometimes they will just stay clear. If one is doing okay or particularly fascinating they'll stay back and watch how it adapt to the unique environments. World where due to temperatures the only habitable zone is on the edge of a star’s light? Organisms adaptation might give some insight for future and give templates for backing up similar ecosystems elsewhere. But there are limits to their interference. If saving a planet requires more effort than its results justify, they let it fade, something Wayfarer was upset about

There’s also a personal element. Archivists sometimes release life forms they’re familiar with—ancestors of creatures they once befriended. While they know these won’t develop into the same beings, it’s comforting to see familiar traits re-emerge (and to know how to deal with them). When universe is so hellbend on reminding of inevitable end, its a small victory.

Those are some words about methods, when it comes to why they even start its bit diffrent. The Starchildren’s mission stems from witnessing the first total extinction of life on a first developed planet. Unable to create life or reverse what had happened, they were confronted with the vast emptiness of the void and believed all was lost, that was it. And then saw the painfully SLOW emergence of life elsewhere, collectors agreed on a mutual goal to prevent life fading out of existance, not taking for granted it will work out. Bit ironic joke of fate that ones suited to live in isolation of void are also one to seek company. When the only other comapny is one that lives in blink of an eye its easy for the unguided Starchildren with almost divine power develop some quirks and complexes (not an excuse, just a reason).

But maybe its by design, just the right trait to have something always watching tirelessly over the gardens, ensuring there is someone there. I wouldn't say there isn't a quiet internal push for it, a drive that took root in the right environment and grew into a lifelong mission. Magic, like energy, isn’t created—it once formed part of Everything. When Everything awakened, it wanted to be more, sought to ensure there would always be something

Using this post to explain a bit of Raven & Charles! 😼

Just like in FC, when they both where kids, Charles found Raven & she was formally adopted by the xavier fam! Unluckyly for them the xavier fam where still really bad 😿. They where not really into keeping pokemon as pets (& viewed them as just means to an end) too. They still secretely kept their companion pokemons (Abra and Ditto + a pair of eevees) throughout their childhood. Both Charles and Raven where 2 years advanced in their highschool so they got to get out early - Charles at 18 and Raven at 16.

Once they got out, Charles studied genetics & based his thesis on the evolution of mutants but in the world of pokemon & reasarched the general evolution of pokemon (not lvl up evo, like theory of evolution stuff). Raven studied fashion & like designing clothes stuff

Eventually, Raven would change her last name to Darkholme (to fully remove herself from her adopted fam except Charles) and open a butique, named 'Mistique'. Charles couldn't bear to change his last name, so he kept it. He started teaching in Naranja/Uva academy (thinking of having both & them just being like diff sections of the academy) in Paldea.

Sometime around here they would obtain the pokemon they have to honour eachother. Charles would rescue a shiny Ralts from an evil organisation or smth (still working on the backstory) and it would remind him sm abt his sister he named her Raven. Raven would be gifted a Natu by Irene Adler 😻 and also just be so reminded of her brother that she named the Natu Charles. These two eventually would evolve into a shiny Gardevoir & a Xatu.

bringing this one back cuz i just saw a tiktok on a similar topic and it reminded me of this

i'm trying to figure out what relationship grian has with the watchers (that i like better)

we have the basic: the watchers kidnapped him! and traumatized him! and while i love love that one, it's amazing for like angst and shit. but if you actually watch the Evo end poem, you have to admit that grian did choose to join the watchers, so the most you can say is that he didn't feel like he had a choice

so i'm gonna take that and change it a bit

when the watchers offered grian a spot in their ranks, they did give him a choice, but didn't tell him the full truth. they told him all of the powers he would gain, but none of the draw backs. they promised him the world, but didn't tell him the chains that would hold him to it. basically gave him an offer he couldn't refuse and he took the bait, hook, line, and sinker.

that's still good for lore/angst, but addresses that grian choose to be a watcher (also it seems like something the watchers would do)

or my other one was, grian joins the watchers and it goes as he expected and the watchers are kinda like panicked parents who are slowly regretting their choice to adopt him. while at the same time he's rubbing off on them and they're becoming more chaotic (maybe they yoink pearl so grian is less lonely)

i like that cuz it's kinda funny, no angst here, just good ol family dynamics
