Posts like this miss entirely the point 😞
Tumblr media
There was controversy. As much as I ,as a Greek, enjoyed the game many agreed that the game was showing a diversity fit for the USA. The difference is that a post managed to get many views to cause a debate.
The point isn't what the artists did, who just did their job, is the studios and corporations behind the scenes that push the forced diversity into a culture that has been overshadowed.
Again i will say this example, had the game be about Chinese/Egyptian/ Hindu mythology would it make sense for the deities to be of different ethnicity?
No. So the same goes for the Greek gods.
People simply ask ,why Greeks are being tossed aside and forgotten and don't get respected for simply saying they want representation in the entertainment industry. It's nothing about racism or white supremacism or "haters are losing it right now".
Ethnicity matters and Greek culture is still thriving despite the hardships it endured. The bare minimum we ask is seeing ourselves being represented in media the way it's respected.

Yellow = yellow
Bananas are yellow, does this mean that yellow = banana?
No, yellow = yellow
Yellow =/= banana, does this mean bananas aren't yellow?
Lemons are yellow, does this mean lemon = banana?
Lemon =/= banana, does this mean lemons aren't yellow?
Some apples are yellow, does this mean yellow = apple?
Some apples are red or green, does this mean apples can't be yellow?
Some apples are red, some apples are yellow, does this mean red = yellow?
Lemons and apples are round but bananas aren't, does this mean bananas aren't yellow?
Apples and bananas are sweet, does this mean lemon's aren't sour? Or that sourness is bad?
Bananas, lemons, and apples are fruit, does this mean mustard isn't yellow?
No, yellow = yellow
A category groups things that share a commonality despite their differences. The differences coexist within that commonality without redefining the category.
Other similarities coexist within, and without, the commonality without redefining the category either. The fact that it doesn't redefine the category does not mean those similarities don't hold significance of their own.
If not for the commonality, it wouldn't be a category. If not for the differences, it wouldn't be a category either.
Okay? Cool
Asexuality = experiencing little to no sexual attraction

okay preemptive media anaylsis of the robin goodbye scene. (paused just as it started)
this scene had to be sanji because of the skypeia flower action, because this arc is about mentally ill people and those that love them and sanji truly does fucking love robin. the reason it hits with sanji specifically is he occupies a level of "not manly" due to his relationships with women and wearing his own heart on his sleeve that he can be nothing but genuine, and there's an assumed naivety to that, (to some degree there is) but robin herself believes him (unlike nami) that isn't the problem here.
robin must face sanji (someone who does not hide his emotions when it comes to her) to face what she's going to do. much like the usopp "i should leave the crew" moment, it's the point of no return coming from a want to punish herself. one of my favourite things about sanji as a character, is his ability to show love in ways that are completely nontraditional for men, and he screams after her. it had to be him because he is emotionally intelligent enough to identify that loss and hurt in ways that any other character (besides nami) wouldn't be able to express in the same way. she must face unconditional love and reject it based on her own belief that she is unlovable.
theres the water river flowing between them and as sanji crosses it its too late

Fandom: Seele is a lesbian. Her interactions with Bronya prove it, she picks on her all the time, and then also sticks around longer than she has to, yadda yadda... Me: Have you seen her fuss over Luka in his SQ? I'd suggest taking a look at it. You guys ship M/M ships for barely even being in the same trailer.

The Mad King and the False Queen
By Hope and Amanda Abrom / 4 stars
Just before her coronation, Magda uses her magic for the first time. Except its the wrong kind of magic. Instead of the Life magic (water manipulation and healing) her family has, that she's supposed to have, she has Soul magic - manipulation over earth. She's expected to make a display of her magic for the crowd, and she doesn't know what will happen when it's found out that she has the wrong kind.
Dagmara, her loyal friend (and the royal assassin) brings in Magda's brother, Aleksy - to help. He hides in the rafters to make the display for Magda, until foreign assassins kill both him and his father. Dagmara tries to save Aleksy, but when she can't, she makes sure that Magda lives. The assassins appear to be Ilusauri from their dress, and they have masks of the First Prince.
Shortly after, Prince Claude of Ilusauri extends an invitation to Magda to keep her safe; and offer his hand in marriage. Magda knew Claude when they were children, but at the age of 13 he murdered his parents, and Ilusauri has since shut down all it's trade routes and severely limited travel to the country. News has it that he's raiding and shutting down villages, leaving people transplanted and homeless.
Magda knows she can't go to Ilusauri. Even if Claude isn't the Mad King he's known as, she needs to use this time to find out what's happening with her magic. She'll need to contact the Guardian of Flaustra, on the opposite side of the world. So she turns to Dagmara again - Magda will learn about her magic, and Dagmara will take her place in Ilusauri. It will also give Dagmara the chance to find out if the assassins were really sent by Claude and form an alliance to get the medicine that Azurem desperately needs, for an illness that is killing their young population.
There are some rough spots, things that seemed to work out a little too simply, or that could have been fleshed out a little bit more. I feel like overall the pace of the story was pretty well balanced.
As much as I hated to see it in a "hero princess" character, Magda does one of the most personally relatable things I've seen: following the loss of her parents, she becomes even more attached to her dog, Odie. One of her main issues when she gets to Flaustra (other than the palace being completely closed to any visitors) is that there are no dogs on the street. Instead, they've all been taken by a guild member to compete in a dog fighting ring, and the leader Vex has set his sights on Odie. With the help of a street violinist, Magda has to lead several rescue missions to get Odie out of Vex's hands and keep him safe in the city. While I wanted to scream at her that she's on a time sensitive mission, and she really should be focusing on getting a message to Queen Sanyal or Princess Kiran, I can't fault her for choosing her dog over her life, magic and country.
Meanwhile, Dagmara is struggling. For one thing, she's not a Guardian, meaning she has no magic and hasn't been trained in languages the way Magda has. Her understanding of the Ilusauri language is rudimentary, and she hopes the king and his court will overlook it. Also, the night before the coronation, while on a mission an Ilusauri foreigner saw her and had too many questions to ask. She killed him, then later learned he was actually the Captain of the Guard, Sabien Renauld. Who isn't really dead. Instead, Sabien shows up a few days after Dagmara does, and finds every opportunity to attach himself to her, asking her questions and shamelessly flirting.
Dagmara was definitely my favorite of the two MCs - I thought her story arc was more compelling, but also her realistic representation of having a hidden, chronic illness was one of the most refreshing portrayals I've seen yet. Her doctors don't know what causes her illness and even suspect she's making it up. As an assassin, she's had to become an expert at potions and poisons to make up where her stamina fails her. We see her adapting to her health, taking breaks when she needs, and asking for accommodations when she needs. Instead of "overpowering" her illness through sheer grit and a good attitude, she does the best she can to make it through her day. Oh, and also find out who's been killing Guardians and why, and possibly falling in love with the Mad King she can never really have.
I'm definitely going to be reading the second one, to find out what's in store! I feel like even for the moments that let me down in this book, the things I enjoyed far outweighed them.
I received an ARC from the authors through BookSirens. All opinions are my own.

I come bearing random fic asks! 1) tell us about your current wip(s)! 2) what's your writing process like? 3) I think you mentioned you have a background in psychology — how much does that influence your writing?
Hello my beautiful friend!!
Thank you so much for sending me these! I have been sitting on this for days because I wanted to banish 'thought that i was young' from my WIPs before answering lol
1.) Now that THAT'S published (and taken most of my WIP wordcount with it *sad violin noises*) there's 3 fics I'm actively poking at, the chunkiest is a Sam-and-Jamie-BFFS-agenda-6-conversations-they-might-have-had-and-one-they-definitely-didn't which I'm pretty sure I've posted a snip of SOMEWHERE before whoops. The working title was too long for me to cope with, to the extent that it managed to override my inability to make my mind up about anything, and is now called 'i said, maybe' - a line I've gleefully pinched from Wonderwall by Oasis! I like it for this fic because *gestures at working title* BUT ALSO Wonderwall is the song Sam sings at karaoke in 1x07 'Make Rebecca Great Again' and the Manchester connection tickles me greatly!
There's a non-angsty, short-ish (I'm honestly shocked) fic that fell out of my brain nearly fully formed a couple of weeks ago (because almost everyone I knew was either talking about or having birthdays) which ALSO has a title 'because he had no say in it (no say in it at all)', which is almost definitely going to be posted next (and hopefully a LOT sooner than the time-space between 'i learned to walk while he was away' and 'thought that i was young').
The only other thing I'm actively poking at right now is in the outline stage, it is also short-ish (please PLEASE stay that way) but is back to the angst-fest that is apparently all my brain wants to spit out. It's Jamie-centric. It involves a cat :)
2.) Honestly at this point my writing process is best described as:
(sound warning)
youtube
ANYWAY
(My actual answer about my writing process is that I love planning. Very much. Stretching the dough into spaghetti is where the problem lies 🫠)
3.) I do indeed have a background in Psychology! Like any undiagnosed-in-denial-17-year-old-DUMBASS, I studied Psych right out of high school due to a combined and truly harebrained motivation of 'what IS going on up there' and 'wow I love systematically studying, analysing and mimicking human behaviour [no underlying NOTHING going on up there no siree]' and wound up with a four year degree. NOW, my background is purely theoretical, I have never been registered as/worked as a Psychologist, so I'm not violating any ethical codes by using my knowledge for evil applying my Psych training to fictional stories/characters. Because the answer to 'how much does that influence your writing' is. SO MUCH. Not necessarily intentionally, there's only one fic in the extended-mountainous-WIP-pile that's explicit about Psych stuff (I'm giving Dani Seasonal Affective Disorder whoops), but psychology is one of those fields that once you're trained in it you can't really ever un-know it. Unfortunately for me, and everyone that I meet, there's forever a predisposing/precipitating/perpetuating/protective biopsychosocial model being drawn up in my head whenever someone exhibits any kind of behaviour my forebrain finds moderately interesting. (This doesn't happen with online friends DON'T WORRY [in truth it's only because I can't physically see you all- I AM SO SORRY- I am not in control of this]).
Honestly, I think a big part of it is just that my particular brand of pattern-recognition-AuDHD has been granted auto-inserted citations and gone mad with power.
Take Jamie, beloved stress ball that he is, he has so much psycho-analysis potential that I'm forever torn between wanting to write a dissertation on the various comorbidities that could be floating around in that guy's head, having a Watsonian v Doylist argument with myself about ~artistic intentions~, having to suspend disbelief for the sake of storytelling because I've been cursed with knowledge (gleefully and enthusiastically sought out and paid for knowledge) and just wanting to enjoy the story/character as they're presented/as I'm writing it.
Applying actual Psychology to fictional characters is like trying to tie a balloon to a moving rollercoaster, for the simple fact that they're not real; their actions and motivations and reactions are scripted and rehearsed and performed.
I'm doing it anyway :)

i think i'll start to put my standards higher when it comes to friends. i'll ask them to write a 500 words essay about my favorite character of a media, and if they say any fanon shit that is extremely out of character about them, they're denied as a friend and can try again next month after they studied said character.

I often say fancy words and don’t actually look up what they mean and just assuming “that kinda sounds right” and then I look up the definition and I’m like “oh I just used that word that is absolutely never meant to be used”
My only real and valid writing tip is that you google every word you make up for your fantasy stories. That's It
