Abhokian Flag Referendum

This map shows the results of the Abhokian flag referendum, which was held in 168 ACC.

While the diagonal white strip of the Abhokian flag came from the crest of the Juhron Resistance, a group that fought against Rusovian and Talnoan occupation of ethnic Abhokian lands, the rest of the flag had less noble roots.

The color blue and the star symbol had no cultural meaning to Abhokians, and their inclusion in the flag was seemingly random. But, over the years an assumption that grew in popularity was that the first assembly of the republic used these design elements to please the old occupiers. The color blue being associated with Rusovia, and the star Talnoa.

Decades went by, and by 168 Abhokia was no longer a runt state. Rusovia had withered away, and Talnoa was an ally. There was no need to fear an invasion, and many viewed the inclusion of these symbols as cowardly. Change was demanded.

So the referendum was held. The yes vote for a new flag won, but the map shows some interesting results. Voter turnout was not overly high, signifying that there was a large minority who simply didn't care. It shows that many did not support a change, especially in the far west and parts of the coast where blue is a color seen in regional flags. The results were more mixed along the borders, where sizable populations of ethnic Rusovians and Talnoans still live.

The old flag of Abhokia. The star is a strong symbol of Abhokia's northern neighbor Talnoa (which still occupies some ethnic Abhokian lands). And the blue-white-blue combination is the same one used by Yevsburg, Rusovia's successor.

The new flag of Abhokia. The symbol that replaced the star represents the six republics converging into one, and the color red was selected because it is a rare color on Hessdalanian flags, and it is not associated with Talnoa or Rusovia in any way.

Flag: The flag of Vylär is a green rectangle with a red phoenix symbol over a blue background (of course, it isn't a phoenix in universe). The blue and green represent courage and nature, the red represents power, and the phoenix represents resilience.

Flag: The flag of Vexäriä is a gray/white circle with a red star over a blue background. The colors of blue and silver (grey/white) represent loyalty and honesty and the red represents bravery and war. The star represents protection and their belief in the power of their clan.

Flag: The flag of Nēlärä is a brown, down-ward facing triangle with an interlocking ring symbol over a green background. The brown, green, and yellow colors represent nature and the forest. The interlocking rings represent peace and equality.

(If any of these flags already exist, my bad, feel free to point it out and I'll fix it.)

If you’re confused, the first line beneath each design is the name. The first word (ex. Nēlärä) is the current, in universe name. The first one or two in the parenthesis (elemental clan) is the old one. This name was never used for the clan in universe but is what I used to call them before I had solidified their names. The last part (Lit. Clan of natural magic) is the literal (hence ‘lit) meaning of the clan’s name in their native language.

no you guys listen the moon wasn’t full. it was specifically stated in interviews that the full moon from the original “you wear fine things well” scene was part of the big romance fantasy that Ed and Stede were building in their heads, huge and glowing and unrealistic. This time, the moon isn’t as bright and it isn’t full, not because the love and the tenderness is gone, but because the illusion is. They’ve grown as people and don’t want a ridiculous dream or a whim this time around. This is a love that is grounded, that is honest, that takes time and hard work. Ed and Stede can see each other properly now, and what they see is beautiful.

New Country Alert! Mohvesto

I came up with Mohvesto a while ago, before I redrew Hessdalen's map actually. But only recently decided to make it an independent state.

Mohvesto is one of Cazkania's satellite states, situated between the other vassals of South Aspenia and Transrhobor, and bordering Aspenia proper and Roloughnia. Unlike the other satellites, Mohvesto allied itself with Cazkania without being invaded. Mohvesto adopted the Oretek ideology on its own, and assisted with the Cazkanian takeover of the Transrhobor region, and the occupation of South Aspenia.

Originally I had merged Mohvesto with South Aspenia, so that a large portion of the population of that new state would be loyal to Cazkania and offset the ethnic Aspenian majority. But I changed my opinion on that and figured it was silly for the Cazkanians to punish an ally by taking away its autonomy and name.

Mohvesto is mostly populated by ethnic Transrhoborians, making it and Illira the only two states not absorbed into the nation of Transrhobor.

Also, Mohvesto's original flag was just the blue and yellow stripes plus the red octagon, and it was the only flag on Hessdalen to be flown vertically. But the red band was added to make it compatible with the Cazkanian flag's dimensions.
