The Price of Friendship

Ringleaders who make the environment as competitive and hostile as possible, who want to keep their gladiators on edge. Fighters are constantly underfed, kept in tight cramped quarters—they want them always on the precipice of tearing each other’s throats.

But despite their best efforts, there’s a certain level of trauma bonding that forms between fellow captives.

One must be careful, however, forming attachments in a gladiator ring—trusted companions could turn bloodthirsty opponents with the rise of the sun. 

Bloody armor. Wiping the blood of a beloved companion from their own weapons and armor after a gruesome, battle.

Two friends embracing eachother, crying into the other’s shoulder, knowing that they are to face off as opponents in the ring the following morning.

Holding each other at night, unable to sleep, promising one another that if the moment comes, they’ll try to make it painless.

Losing a friend in a match. the bitter resentment against the fighter that killed them. And the guilt brought forth by the hatred—knowing that they too, are a victim of circumstance. 

The Victor

The roar of the crowd floods the stadium when the fighter strikes the final blow, sending their dear friend to the ground in a bloody heap.

The champion feels their wrist grabbed and thrust above their head in victory—as the stadium screams and cheers, the roar rushes over the victor like a numbing tidal wave. 

But they feel no victory, no pride, the celebration only serves to stab the agonizing guilt and pain through their chest— just as they had, mere moments ago, run their blade through their cherished friend. 

There is nothing but pained numbness in their victory. They blink blearily up to the thousands of cheering, faceless voices surrounding them from above. The roar rushes around them like a swirling, dissociative whirlpool. They think only of the bleeding body that’s still lying on the gravel, only a few yards away.

The weight of the golden medal is a crushing burden around their chest, pulling them down into agonizing sorrow. The gold and the guilt weighs down against their heart until all they want to do is sink down to join their friend on the blood soaked gravel. 

The champion is forced to fight again the following day to defend their title, but they’re still breathing heavy and ragged through cracked ribs, still bleeding through the bandages from the previous day— still crying. Their mind is in shambles, their chest aches with the guilt of being forced to hurt or kill their friend. They don’t deserve to wear the title of champion. They don’t want it—They can’t do this again. The battle begins; they haven’t stopped crying. 

Loss

A fighter who loses but doesn’t die: If they’re not giving their life to the arena that day, they have sacrifice something, right? 

The crowd gets to vote on what they’ll lose instead. An eye, a finger, taken atop all their other injuries. The event always met with roaring ovation. 

When the losing fighter is sent to rejoin the others late into the night, something is always missing. 

The others are terrified, eyes filled with pity and fear. Some can’t even look at them, burying their tear streaked faces in their hands. Others extend condolences—it wasn’t your fault—but they know there’s nothing they can do to bring back what’s been removed.

The losing fighter sobs quietly into the night, their muffled crying only matched by the stifled weeping of the champion themselves, wracked with guilt and unable to sleep.

Whumpee being manhandled into restraints:

Shoved up against a wall and handcuffed.

Pinned to the floor and handcuffed.

Fighting for each limb as they’re forced down on a table, slowly secured by leather restraints.

Overwhelmed by multiple Whumpers, each one working to subdue them.

Yanked back by their hair so a collar or rope can easily be fitted around their throat.

Pinned while in combat (double points for being caged against a wall or trapped in a chokehold)

Improvised restraints like belts, sheets, or clothing when Whumpee won’t be still enough to retrieve proper ones.

Manhandled in a hospital bed, held down for the duration of a procedure.

Injected with a chemical restraint, a sedative or numbing agent that quickly bleeds the fight out of them.

Struggling as a muzzle is wrestled over their head and secured.

A blow to the head that knocks Whumpee out or makes them too dizzy to fight anyone off.

Listen I am not opposed to a little bit of babygirlifying my favorite blorbo but when you start nerfing their canon skills for the sake of whump or woobifaction is where I draw the line. He would NOT fold that easily in that situation

whump fic where whumpee is being held captive by whumper and continually tries to escape to find where caretaker is being held so they can get out of here together, but as the story progresses it becomes more clear that whumpee is a victim of stockholm syndrome/brainwashing by "caretaker" and is actually being rehabilitated by "whumper" after being rescued, not kidnapped

Weird niche thing I like: swordfights that aren’t perfectly polished duels where they say “en garde!” and salute each other respectably before they go at it. I mean the ones where they’re trying to kill each other any way they can and it does not matter about your form or your posture as long as you stab the other person before you get stabbed. The kind where somebody drops their sword and proceeds to punch the other person in the face because screw honor, one of us isn’t walking away and it sure as hell isn’t gonna be me-

Wire choking off air when Whumpee fights or fails to move fast enough, easily cutting through the skin. Hands bound behind their back so that they can’t grab the pole being used to drag them along. Whumper(s) keeping their distance because watch it, this one bites—

I had been thinking about how Twilight got injured in that one chapter LU, Twilight seems a bit delirious. I always kind of thought how he must of had some crazy dreams and that it was the curse coursing through him. With that said, how bout Drawing something where Time is trying to comfort twilight as he is having a nightmare, where like Midna (who never actually said this) “oh mutt, you were nothing to me, but a means to an end. Nobody likes you.”

And rancher just whimpering, “no, Midna, you don’t mean that…”tears streaming as a feaver spikes.

And time like “oh pup, it’s okay. It’s just a nightmare.”

If that’s too much I understand. :) but yeah. That’s pretty whomp-y where the curse is causing dark dreams.
