The idea that uni protesters are "elitist ivy-league rich kids larping as revolutionaries" on Twitter and Reddit and even here is so fucking funny to me if you actually know anything about the student bodies at these unis. Take it from someone who's going to one of the biggest private unis in the US, 80% of the peers I know are either from the suburbs or an apartment somewhere in America, children of immigrants, or here on a student visa. I've heard about one-percenter students, but I've never met one in person. Like, don't get me wrong, the institution as a whole is still very privileged and white. I've talked with friends and classmates about feeling weird or dissonant being here and coming from such a different background. But in my art program, I see BIPOC, disabled, queer, lower-income students and faculty trying to deconstruct and tear that down and make space every day. So to take a cursory glance at a crowd of student protesters in coalitions that are led by BIPOC & 1st/2nd-gen immigrant students and HQ'd in ethnic housings and student organizations and say, "ah. children of the elite." Get real.

#also idk how to tell you this but even if it were true. wealthy children potentially sacrificing their educational careers to protest is #a good thing actually. idk how to tell you that caring about people from other nations is good #personal #“this war has nothing to do with most students cuz nobody's getting drafted” idk how to explain to you that we should be angry #that our tuitions of 10s of thousands of dollars that we pay every year for an education is being used to fund a genocidal campaign #also the implication that if you go to a uni institution you are automatically privileged by participation no matter your bg #i didn't /want/ to go to this school. i was supposed to go to a school with an art/animation program. but i realized my immigrant #parents have been working their whole lives to get me here. and turning the opportunity down would be a disservice to their sacrifice #this is getting into convos of “what 2nd gen kids owe their parents” which is different for everyone but. yeah #i just get pissed off at seeing people misrepresenting student bodies as “wealthy” and “privileged” and “elite” when it's such a blatant li #i remember a year ago a friend told me they can't fly home to hong kong for winter break because the plane tickets are too expensive #so they have to find temporary housing around the area #last quarter for a film doc class my film partner made a doc on a small group of marxist grad students from india discussing praxis #during a rally a few months ago in response to police presence the coalition invited palestinian students to speak about their experiences #and lead songs and read poems they wrote. these are STUDENTS. are they elitist too?#this is not to disregard my own personal privilege either.#this whole narrative's just to rationalize a lack of empathy to me. seeing a 19yo student get shot by a rubber bullet and your first #reaction is “HAW! HAW! bet richy rich didn't see THAT coming when she put on her terrorist hood!”#newsflash. these big uni campuses are HAUNTED by the violence of past protests and revolutions and police brutality. we know.#why do you think these coalitions have been making reinforced barricades at record speed

#ask #anon #anon i grew up with the n64 #so like. not much different? i wouldnt have TTYD or Sunshine or Luigis Mansion #but like. around the time of the gamecube. my family had the n64. ps1. ps2.#id still have played battle for bikini bottom because i had it on PS2 first #we also had a few other consoles but i dont have a proper memory of which my brothers owned. were sold. or were borrowed #because we had a dreamcast. i played sonic adventure 1 (appearently got to the casino. i remember the ring shaker)#we had an SNES at one point. played mario world and donkey kong country 1 #we had a sega genesis momentarily before we moved around the time i was 5 #i remember playing aladin. mortal kombat (dont know which one) and a garfield 2D platformer that had a haunted mansion level #or something #but the dreamcast. genesis and... maybe the snes. we had those before the gamecube #with the n64 my main games were mario 64. banjo kazooie. and banjo tooie. and mario kart and mario party 2 #ive still got almost all of my old n64 games. im missing my copy of toy story 2 and smash 64 #my brothers owned metroid prime 1 & 2 for the gamecube so. i wouldnt have had that i guess.#iirc i got the gamecube for easter one year. i say iirc because i remember specifically getting Mario Sunshine #and the gamecube mightve been paired with it but i was specifically excited for mario sunshine #i woke up to follow like. a trail of starburst into the basement (its our secondary living room) to find the game and console... i think #so i forever associate Sunshine with starburst. idk if it was intentional or not.#starburst fits really well for the few times that colourful goop pattern is used. like at the very start of the game #anyway anon you couldve just asked what wouldve happened if i didnt have a gamecube. no need for the violence.#also the gamecube itself plays a very small role in my childhood. like in comparison to the PS2 games that came and went in my household #anyway. thank you anon for the ask. i think.

There has to be some subsection of students at Visions that firmly believe the school is 100% Haunted.

like their science project is a huge year long ordeal documenting the bathroom doors that open randomly and the weird sound of footsteps on the ceiling or the windows getting opened and shut or things sometimes being swiped from the langauge class desks only to be found on the floor outside the cafeteria

Ganke joins the 'Visions is haunted' [name pending] club after school bc he genuinely was interested in ghosts but after one session he realizes its just Miles when he casually [its not casual! hes careful and makes sure no one actually sees *him*] goes invisible to get to classes/ spider-man business faster caused these kids to think the school is haunted. ganke is a little disappointed there's no actual ghost but he stays to make sure they stay off of Miles trail [and sometimes he gets Miles to do something specific for funsies]

Considering their IRL counterparts, we think there's a very good chance that since Heart was Rad God's previous host, while she got transmitted to Mad Rat via bits of her in the heart tissue. There's not a whole lot else going on in that operation besides the heart transplant, after all, and we doubt that the doctor had any extra contamination around to potentially transmit her. We know that she says she lives in rats, specifically, but there's One Specific Protozoan she's based off of, and cats are the definitive host o f Toxoplasmosis Gondii.

Given the givens, it's entirely possible she simply doesn't present the same symptoms cross-species, and a symbiotic host that offers more benefits to her just... won't experience the same trip, especially since trying to feed your cat host to a cat doesn't really offer any benefit to either of you. With Heart, he's probably either asymptomatic or just only experiencing symptoms that don't particularly affect his day-to-day life, possibly in a way where he wouldn't have even known he was playing host to a parasite if it wasn't for the situation with Mad Rat.

Would it be weird for him to be... aware of that, postgame? To know that he's carrying a parasite with the potential to majorly fuck up any rats that might contract it? Is there a proper way to react to the knowledge that you're carrying a hallucinogenic parasite in you that'll cause major issues for any rat you might infect? Would he even, like... figure out the whole "asymptomic/mostly asymptomic carrier" thing before later? These are the questions we really need to ask.

#mad rat dead spoilers #mad rat dead #we speak #MRD is a beautifully crafted game with an incredibly compelling narrative about death and life and making something of it all #and also we are going to talk about it like “hey yknow how rat god might live in heart's guts before being evicted via heart surgery”#we are certain someone else has said this considering we're just restating canon facts but we haven't seen it so we're making it again #please do imagine discovering you have a parasite because you died #and came back in a state where you could see the very strongly presenting symptoms in an intermediate host #this is also our theory as to why final cutscene heart uses rat god's voice btw #she's in there hanging out somewhere in his digestive tract and possibly offering mild rat-related perks #depending on how Weird mechanics are might be part of the reason he can talk to rat when the black cat doesn't share a language #gondii is a beneficial symbiote for cats after all #just not for rats #mad rat dead's plot from rat god's pov is just “you get evicted from your old apartment because someone ripped it asunder”#“and then stuck one chair from your living room into this guy's van with you still in it”#“and now you're trying to backseat driver your way into finding a new apartment. the guy will die if you do this but this is fine you think #and then she gets beaten up by the guy whose car she's using #and then from heart's pov it's just discovering you have some guy living in you like five years after she takes up residence #when she starts trying to kill the guy you were an organ donor for who you are currently haunting #and then mad rat is here with “god is real and she wants me dead”#maybe if we get the motivation we will make joke aus based on these at some point #maybe.#we rarely return to MRD so #maybe itll just float #this is one a them “once every three years” fandoms we might be back later but we don't guarantee it.#we'll see how it goes

#my girlfriend and i went to see the barbie movie today #sadly it was rather disappointing and neither of us liked it nearly as much as we wanted to or we were hoping we would #also our theatre experience wasnt great cos there were a bunch of little kids (all around ten years old) in the last row #and they were being inappropriate throughout the film but especially at the serious and heartfelt moments #(they were talking and giggling and making gross noises like burping loudly)#and it was clear they did not want to be there cos when the movie ended one of them loudly said 'finally!'#it was just horrible and luckily someone sitting in the row in front of us shushed them during the final serious moment of the movie #anyway i gave it 3/5 stars on letterboxd and did not give it a heart for liking it #between this and everything everywhere all at once (which i gave 3 and a half/5 stars and no heart)#im questioning if my standards for comedy in films is too high #however my girlfriend and i watched yesterday (2019) with my dad well yesterday (it was a rewatch for my dad and i)#and we all really love the comedy in it so riddle me that #anyhoo for the prompt #i added a definition to 'haunt' as i couldnt find it anywhere but i know it is used in the same vein as 'haunting'#but i see this as an opportunity to write about someone who has passed away coming back to 'haunt' a loved one in a gentle and loving way #as a way to look out for them if you will and hence 'sweet'#and im looking forward to writing that #thanks for reading #writing #writer #creative writing #writing prompt #writeblr #trying to be a writeblr at least
