☆ uta6528's charshiu chicken ☆

Pretty much, I asked for for foods to try and uta6528 recommended me charsiu! They even shared with me their recipe! And it's really good too! Also, the picture doesn't look much since not all the chicken is present. I only plate it like that for picture purposes.

Unfortunately, I didn't have red yeast rice so I substituted it with annatto seeds steeped in hot water as their flavour profiles seem similar enough. utaiteai said the red yeast rice not only it adds colour to the charshiu, it also adds a bit of flavour.

Annatto tastes has a subtle, earthy flavour with hints of pepper and nutmeg. While red yeast rice has subtle, earthy, and slightly sweet flavour.

uta6528's recipe:

5 cloves garlic

1 teaspoon of ginger

2 tablespoons red yeast rice

1 tablespoon chinese five spice

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon sesame seed oil

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1/2 tablespoon salt and pepper

500g chicken

Blend together garlic, ginger, red yeast rice, and chinese five spice.

Once blended, mix with the honey, sesame seed oil, oyster sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, and salt & pepper.

Add chicken to marinade and let it marinate overnight.

To cook, set oven to 150°C and place chicken inside. You can cover chicken so it's juicier and not dry.

Wait 30 minutes to see if it's cooked or not. If not, leave it for another 15 minutes.

WHAT I DID:

Unfortunately, I only had 250g chicken in the freezer so I halved the recipe. Not to mention our blender is broken so...

1 tablespoon annatto seeds

1/4 cup water

3 cloves of garlic, grated

1/2 teaspoon ginger powder

1/2 tablespoon chinese five spice

1 tablespoon honey + more for the glaze

1/2 tablespoon sesame seed oil

1/2 tablespoon oyster sauce

1/2 tablespoon brown sugar

1/2 tablespoon soy sauce

1/4 tablespoon salt and pepper

250g chicken

Let annatto seeds steep in hot water. Let it steep at least overnight for a bolder flavour. Strain the seeds.

In a bowl or ziplock bag, add the garlic, ginger powder, chinese five spice, honey, sesame seed oil, oyster sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, and salt & pepper. Mix until well combine.

Add chicken into the marinade. Let marinate at least a day.*

Preheat oven in 190°C for at least 5 minutes.

Fold aluminum foil into an open-faced box, make sure liquid wouldn't leak out. Make sure the size can fit the chicken and marinade. In a way that you're cooking the chicken with the remaining marinade as well.

Put the chicken and marinade into the foil.

Cover it with another sheet of tin foil.

Roast for 20 to 25 minutes.

Afterwards, take the chicken and place it on a sheet pan for an oven toaster.

If theres a bit of marinade left, brush it on the chicken.

Pour a bit of honey on the chicken and brush it evenly.

Toast in the oven until there's a visible light char.

*I did mine overnight but the meat tasted a little bland. The skin was divine though. However, it could be because chicken isn't as flavourful as pork to begin with. uta6528 did say they much prefer the pork one.

THOUGHTS:

Mild flavours and very fragrant. I suggest eating it with a bit of soy sauce as the meat is a little bland.

You kiss their helmet where their cheek is located. You can’t see it, but Platinum Salt is blushing under the helmet.

Blueberry Milk Cookie: “Oh, Y/N Cookie! Look what I got for you!”

Blueberry Milk Cookie got you a whole bouquet of flowers that he hands you with suppressed giddiness!

You: “O-Oh! These are very lovely too, Blueberry Milk! Thank you!”

You kissed his cheek too which makes Blueberry smile widely. Platinum Salt didn’t appreciate being upstaged as a figurative fire ignited around them as they glared down Blueberry Milk.

Pure Sugar Cookie then abruptly showed up with a mountain of flowers.

Pure Sugar Cookie: “Even then, this wouldn’t be enough to show how much I cherish you, Y/N Cookie!”

You: “Oh my…..”

Pure Sugar Cookie: “Gimme kiss. Preferably on the lips!”

Platinum Salt had an anger tick on their helmet.

Blueberry Milk Cookie: “Showoff!”

Let’s start off with the Scallop Omelette filled with diced up Hokkaido scallops. This is followed by Broccoli Stir-Fry in oyster sauce and a host of other ingredients like canned abalones, succulent prawns, boneless chicken chunks and tomato wedges for added acidity. Finally, there are also some leftover Braised Pork from yesterday to complete tonight’s dinner.

How often do you think Burning Spice Cookie will dress up his favored? In a lot of different attire, mayhaps?

You're like a doll, kept as a living trophy for your newly appointed Lord of Destruction, a merger piece of eye candy. Burning Spice Cookie would dress you far more than even Shadow Milk Cookie would, and he takes a fair amount of pride in his knits and kits of deceit.

There is a sort of shameless, dark repetition in the mysterious Jester's fine lace, but Burning Spice Cookie's is not one for subtlety. The Destruction's own taste is a fickle blaze, it rises and falls with history, changing with the tides of the ocean and the phases of the Moon. How his genosity flavors you is how much he himself, the fortunate one, favors you in entirety.

Burning Spice Cookie pampers, he even implures you to take advantage of this; it will shower you in gold and privileges. He begrudgingly admits such personally, as he coats you in his most recent luxurious spoils and creamy wools of war.

But pay heed, he always expects appreciation.

When Burning Spice Cookie ravages you in mountains of gifts, aplenty spices, and remedies, he fully anticipates you to unpack and wear them next sunrise.

Gods grant no miracles. Power doesn't like being questioned. He will answer your prayers of luxury and glory, but never at no cost, at his own personal behest.

He will send over boats, keep tallys, and receive your belief as obligation.

Inspired by @brittle-doughie and his few works about the 5 Beasts! The ones were the reader being a part of their group caught my eye, so have this!

You were Compassion, brilliant, and beautiful. You aided the Cookies in their times of need, when they needed you most. Helping them up to their feet, using your powers to heal them, to soothe arguments. Your friends were once like that too.

Shadow Milk Cookie loved to put on plays for the Cookies, and have them join in. He'd always give you one of the main parts alongside him. It was only fair!

Burning Spice Cookie was always so valiant in defending them, with Silent Salt Cookie by his side. The two were nigh unstoppable, and with you near to always heal any wounds, they really were.

Eternal Sugar Cookie would often join you in aiding the common Cookies, always lounging on her cloud. She always made a spot for you, though. Mystic Flour Cookie would tag along too, going on and on about things seen. It always made you smile.

Until.. something changed.

You didn't notice it at first. It was subtle things, especially whenever you weren't around. Being cruel and hateful towards the Cookies, seeing them as lesser. For not having the power baked and blessed into you six.

You only saw it all too late when your comrades gleefully recounted all that they had done during one of your meetup sessions. You were briefly in shock before shakily congratulating them. You didn't want to anger them. You couldn't take all five of them at once in a fight..

However, you didn't need to wait long. Your Creators, the Witches, soon saw this and upon seeing you untouched by greed and corruption, asked for you help.

Mournfully, you agreed.

You called them all to the spot, saying you had a dance you wanted to show them. A special one, just for their eyes. It was difficult getting them in the exact spots, but once you did..

The Forks fell, trapping them one by one. You continued your dance until the sapling of the Silver Tree was planted, where you then bowed to them.

None of them could understand. Why would you betray them?

Why were you walking away?!

"COME BACK, YOU CAN'T LEAVE!"

For so long following that fateful day, you tried to stay there in Beast-Yeast, but it wasn't possible. Many of the remaining Cookies, that were the Faeire Cookies, couldn't bare to live there any longer.

So you said a mournful goodbye, and led the Cookies that wanted a new home to a new home. Crispia, you decided it would be called. Once many Cookies began to settle, you turned and left. You couldn't bare the thought of becoming like one of the Beasts, so you secluded yourself, changed yourself.

Your divine appearance, your name, everything. Once a Cookie representing Compassion, now you were a mere shadow of yourself. The only thing that stood constant was your Soul Jam, now a beautiful amulet around your neck instead of attached to your clothes.

It was the one thing you couldn't part with, no matter how hard you tried.

You rebuilt yourself. Made new friends, connections, loved ones.

Until the day came.

You had to return to that land to find White Lily Cookie. You didn't want to, but for the sake of the world, you had to.

Oh, it had all gone so terribly wrong. White Lily Cookie had awakened, you had your reunion with the Faeires, and then the Seal began to undo. Try as anyone might, it couldn't be resealed.

And from the rift.. came Shadow Milk Cookie.

Without a single thought, you put yourself between the group and him.

He opened his mouth to say something, but when he spotted you, his pupils went wide.

After so long of being trapped, hidden away by the seal and vines, Eternal Sugar Cookie's constant wailings about you being tricked, manipulated, or brainwashed had gotten to all the Beasts. It was the only explanation, it had to be.

And as Shadow Milk Cookie grins widely down at you, obession in his eyes, you swear to yourself.

You really shouldn't have come back to Beast-Yeast.

The more you think about how the beasts never had a childhood,the more it is sad.

The ancients fell into despair,yes,but they pushed on because they knew why they have to protect earthbread. They met people they love, people they want to protect.

The beasts were forced into protecting earthbread,never knowing why they should protect it.

And especially because cookie kind was so greedy,it was easier for them to be even more hopeless,leading to eventual corruption. Not to mention,they were always lonely. Of course no one of cookie kind would casually come up to the beasts and call them their friend,that's why they were lonely.
