Short Arrow Review for anyone asking themselves if they should bother…
The first two seasons were amazing! Some of the best television I’ve ever seen. But since season 3 onward, the show plummeted downward and never got up again. The main characters became lame pretty quickly (not to mention that no one needed the new team), the plot holes became so big that you would never be found if you were lost in one of them, and to top it off, they killed off the two best characters in the third season. A decision the show never recovered from. And btw, speaking of favorite characters… why the heck is the world sleeping so much on Michael Rowe's Floyd Lawton? Cause he’s definitely the single best thing that happened to the show! Anyway, if you haven’t seen it yet, just watch the first two seasons and then stop. You won’t miss much…

Note
i know that you write more about the flash/ legends than arrow but what do you think about diggle and lyla? or even the suicide squad eps with them and deadshot, cupid, etc?
Overall, I really like Dig and Lyla.
Dig is an absolute favorite of mine and he has put up with sooo much of Oliver's bullshit over the seasons, but he still sees Ollie as his found family and I was glad that he got to see Oliver one last time on the final season of the Flash. I do think he got robbed by having the Green Lantern option taken away when what was going to be his spin off show got taken away. There are times when the writing for him is inconsistent, but one of the most consistent parts of the arrow verse was the inconsistent writing so... *shrug* it is what it is.
I'm less fond of Lyla than of John, but I still enjoy her character. And I do see ARGUS as being an overall better and more ethical organization under her leadership. I get why Barry and Team Flash trust ARGUS under her leadership, it's not just because Oliver vouches for her but because she does clean up a lot of Waller's worst practices like forcibly conscripting missing persons like Oliver or the suicide squads. (I know the Ghost Initiative gets reactivated later, but I haven't seen those episodes, so I don't know how Lyla handles the team there. And the Arrow wiki doesn't clarify if they're still sticking bombs in people's necks.) I do think she got screwed over somewhat in the Red Skies Crisis, but I'm of mixed opinions on how that x-over event was handled.
As for the suicide squad episodes... it's complicated. On principal, I really hate the idea of suicide squads - criminals or not, supervillains or not, it is wildly unethical and immoral to be sticking bombs in people's necks to coerce them into doing dangerous jobs and I have no doubt this practice in canon is what inspired Lewis Snart to put a bomb in Lisa's neck to coerce Leonard into working with him. It's very much something that the 'good guys' should not be party to. It's the sort of thing they should be fighting against.
Lyla continuing to work with ARGUS despite it utilizing suicide squads - her loyalty to Waller despite these and other ethical nightmares Waller treats as totally normal things for ARGUS to participate in - is probably a big part of why I'm less fond of her than Dig. She does reform things later on, but her complicity is very uncomfortable before her promotion. For Dig (and Oliver) working with ARGUS isn't really something there's much choice in. As a vigilante himself, Dig knows ARGUS could easily justify arresting him and so his work with ARGUS isn't entirely voluntary though he is also doing it out of love and respect for Lyla as well. It's a messy situation and while I don't necessarily agree with Dig's choices I do think he tries to make the best of a bad situation.
That said, I do enjoy the episodes themselves. They provide a wealth of character development for Dig and Deadshot - the almost friendship that is reluctantly forged between John and the man who thinks he killed John's brother (and John thinks killed his brother) is fantastically done. Even Floyd's death is fairly well handled by the show writers considering the circumstances under which the real world decision to remove him from the Arrow-verse came from. (Deadshot being a character tapped for the movies made him suddenly off limits for the tv verse so he got written out permanently.)
I think the Suicide Squad episodes originally worked specifically because of Diggle and Lawton. So I can't really speak to what happened with the reactivated 'Ghost Initiative' in S7 since I still haven't watched that season. I don't know if they still had the explosive implants or not - I'd hope not, that Lyla would be better than that. Especially since this is the organization Cisco leaves Team Flash to work for; after removing the explosive from Lisa, I can't imagine Cisco being okay with knowingly working for an organization that creates Suicide Squads when it's convenient for them. But I can't say I'd be surprised - disappointed, but not surprised - to learn Lyla did treat the reactivated Ghost Initiative as a Suicide Squad similar to how Waller did. And if that is the case? I just kind of have to assume Cisco had no idea.
I can't say I have strong opinions about Cupid or the other Suicide Squad members on the show. Floyd's the one that really stands out to me. Cupid was a character I mostly found annoying; her obsession with romantic love just does not click as an interesting motive to me. Likely in part because I'm aromantic, which makes Carrie feel to me like a caricature of the perils of amatonormativity. And I couldn't really name any of the other Suicide Squad members off the top of my head - I had to look them up on the Arrow wiki - so that goes to show how little impact they really had on me when I last watched those episodes.

Always Laurel: Arrow 1x20 Review (Home Invasion)
The love triangle pendulum swings violently in the other direction as Oliver makes a decision that breaks Tommy’s heart and destroys Diggle’s trust in him.
Tumblr media
Source: @htbthomas
Does Oliver always choose Laurel? If yes, then is that a good thing?
Let’s dig in…
Merlance and Lauriver
At this point in the first season, you have probably formed an opinion on this love triangle.  You are either Merlance, Lauriver, a plague on both their houses, or just don’t give a crap. All choices are valid. Everyone knows where I stand.
What I think we can agree on is this love triangle is toxic. Toxicity, I feel, that is being driven largely by Oliver Queen. But we’ll get to that in a minute.  First, we need to discuss the choice Oliver makes.
Laurel is representing the Moore family and suing Edward Rasmus, an investment broker, for stealing their life savings. Rasmus hires Gunn from Angel (that’s what I’m calling him. I know his character has a name, but I don’t care) to kill the parents, but their son Taylor manages to escape. We don’t actually see how Taylor escaped. It looks he jumped out a twelve story window, but whatever.
Laurel volunteers to be the child’s temporary guardian, so Taylor stays at her apartment with Tommy. This leads to a beautiful Merlance moment and one of my all-time favorite Tommy scenes in the series. Little Taylor is grieving the loss of both his parents, so Tommy offers him some advice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source: @bifelicitys
Colin Donnell’s delivery in this scene is just the right mix of sadness and loving comfort. We can see the kind of father Tommy would be and it’s a beautiful sight to behold. If Laurel Lance is not in love with Tommy Merlyn already then she certainly falls in love with him in this moment.
Tumblr media
I wish we could just leave them here forever. Safe in the cocoon of their stable, loving, and supportive relationship.
Tumblr media
But we can’t because of Oliver.
Tumblr media
Tommy and Laurel have lost one crucial aspect of their relationship because of Oliver - honesty. They are both lying. Laurel has failed to tell Tommy that she’s been having “friendly” lunches with Oliver (re: see last episodes “I don’t want to be on an island anymore” speech).  And Tommy is keeping the biggest secret of all – he knows Oliver is the vigilante.
Tumblr media
Source: @htbthomas
Gunn storms Laurel’s apartment to finish the job on Taylor. Tommy throws himself over Taylor’s body and I friggin swooned. Someone woman needs to give this man a baby! The daddy hotness is too much to take.
Tumblr media
Laurel shows some impressive “daughter of a cop” moves when she breaks out the shot gun.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, she didn’t keep more than one bullet in the chamber. Why she didn’t check the gun the minute she got home I will never understand. I swear, this woman sometimes.
Of course, Oliver is there in the shadows as The Hood to rescue Laurel, Tommy and Taylor. Now that Tommy knows Laurel and Taylor are targets, he advises Quentin they should stay at the Queen mansion. They have wall to wall security and more importantly The Hood lives there.
Tommy: We both only want is best for Laurel. And right now that is to stay close to the Oliver. Trust me.
However, the first thing Oliver does when they arrive is leave to help Diggle track down Floyd Lawton, which infuriates Tommy.
Tommy: You are the reason why we’re here and trust me that wasn’t easy to admit.
Oliver assures Tommy the bodyguards at the Queen mansion will be more than sufficient to protect them, but when push comes to shove, he abandons his promise to Diggle to stop Rasmus. This didn’t stop Gunn from going after Taylor again at the Queen mansion. The bodyguards ended up being worthless and a hoodless Oliver Queen had to kill Gunn with a fire poker.
Was Oliver needed at the mansion to save everyone’s lives? YES. But that went down after the Lawton sting operation. Did stopping Rasmus in any way deter Gunn from going after Taylor again? No. Gunn kills anyone who has seen his face – including Rasmus. Oliver couldn’t have known that though. I’m not denying Oliver is juggling a lot of balls this episode. He has some tough choices to make, but the problem is he’s not being honest about the reasons behind those choices.
Felicity:  Couldn’t you be friends with someone less complicated than your ex-girlfriend who is your ex-best friend’s current girlfriend?
It’s a lightly made comment about Oliver’s relationships outside of the bunker, but Felicity’s gentle jab packs a big punch of truth. The more Oliver says Laurel is just a friend the less anyone believes him. It’s crap. Oliver clearly has more than friendly feelings towards Laurel and he does absolutely nothing to conceal them. In fact, he’s pretty damn brazen about it.
Let’s talk the lunches. It ultimately is canceled because of Laurel’s meetings with the Moores, so Oliver meets them when he arrives at CNRI. But he comes back to Laurel’s office after they are murdered to see if there’s anything he can do.
Initially, Tommy tells Oliver his help is not required and a phone call to check on Laurel would’ve been more than sufficient. He didn’t need to stop by in person. Tommy is being very territorial and rightfully so. The vibe ain’t vibing. Then Oliver casually not so casually tells Tommy about the lunches with Laurel – which she has failed to share with her boyfriend.
Tumblr media
Why is Laurel lying to Tommy? A lie of omission is still a lie. If she is truly “just friends” with Oliver then there’s no reason to hide the lunches from Tommy. Laurel has yet to truly articulate how she feels for Oliver, but this lie is not good. An emotional affair is just as hurtful and wrong as a physical one. Some even consider it worse, but make no mistake, an emotional affair is cheating.
As for Oliver, his feelings are plain as day. He has kept Laurel on an emotional hook for the entire season. He continually reinserts himself into her life, particularly at the moments when she’s trying her best to move on.
There was a respectful distance between the two and then Oliver decides Laurel is the person he wants to reconnect with. Why not Tommy? Their friendship could use a lot of damage control. What about Thea? Oliver can’t take her to Big Belly Burger or his mother or Diggle? There is an ample list of people Oliver can open up to if he so chooses. But instead he chooses Laurel – a choice that, as Felicity states, is complicated and wildly inappropriate.
Oliver also uses the vigilante shtick to emotionally manipulate Laurel. He can’t be honest about who he is or what he feels for her, so instead he uses The Hood to be her knight in shining armor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source: @htbthomas
When Laurel finds out it’s The Vigilante who saved them, Oliver notices the soft smile playing on her lips and he’s extremely pleased - almost smug. He’s used the hood to stay close to Laurel all season long. She’s hemmed and hawed about whether or not The Vigilante is a good guy, but it seems she’s solidly pro hood at the moment.
Oliver: He’s lucky to have you in his life. I know the feeling.
Tumblr media
This conversation takes place about twenty feet from the bedroom Laurel is staying in with HER BOYFRIEND who is supposed to be Oliver’s best friend.  He gently touches her arm, they hug and Oliver presses Laurel’s head to his chest, all while Tommy is listening. The way Oliver speaks to Laurel, the way he touches her, is anything but ok.
Tumblr media
Source: @htbthomas
One of the fatal flaws of Lauriver is the writers tell rather than show. I’m a little unclear what “change” Laurel is referring to in Oliver because we don’t get scenes of them discussing anything REAL. So, we’re just supposed to accept through the course of the season Laurel has seen change in Oliver Queen.
But she doesn’t qualify what that change is. Is he more selfless? Is Oliver more communicative? Is he more honest? I don’t know what that word means to Laurel. The last time we saw Oliver and Laurel interacting on a personal level was at least 1x09 or 1x10 and those scenes were really about Laurel finally moving on with Tommy.
SO. WHY. DOESN’T. OLIVER. LET. HER. MOVE. ON????????????!!!!
Oliver is desperate for Laurel’s forgiveness. He’s so desperate for it that he uses The Hood as a way to prove he’s a different person now and to develop a relationship with Laurel he cannot otherwise have as Oliver Queen. As The Hood, there is no Sara. As The Hood, there is no betrayal. As The Hood, he can rebuild trust and find a way to stay in Laurel’s life. As The Hood, he can be the hero. If Oliver can fix things with Laurel it’s like the last five years never happened. Oliver may have a mission to save the city, but what he’s really chasing is absolution.
I’m going to harp on this until I am blue in the face and I’m nowhere near done discussing it in these final three episodes. Nothing has truly changed between Laurel and Oliver. He was lying to her five years ago and he’s lying to her now. Love based on deception isn’t love. There can be no absolution without honest confession.
Tommy: You still love her, don’t you?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source: mymarsrevolution
This is a popular line used in Olicity fanvids, but it’s not about Felicity. It’s about Laurel. This discussion about Laurel between Oliver and Tommy is so patronizing. It’s like Laurel is a toy they are arguing over.  The men get to decide who gets to “keep” her. The men decide what information she needs and who she really belongs with. This choice is neither Oliver nor Tommy’s to make. Laurel deserves the full truth and to decide for herself if she wants to be with either of them.
Tumblr media
Source: @bj-hunnicutts
But what Oliver says is so toxically self serving it makes my blood boil. He’s inserted himself as The Hood in Laurel’s life as a sexy, leather clad, dangerous, bow & arrow wielding, romance novel, shadow figure who heroically saves her life again and again (because women hate guys like that). Oliver develops an emotional attachment between Laurel and The Hood to keep his hooks in her just enough to muddy the waters with Tommy.
Now he’s reinserting himself into her life as Oliver Queen, but just as a “friend” while carrying on an emotional affair with her. He has ZERO intention of ever being honest or having a real relationship with her. Oliver dresses it up as heroic selflessness, but if he was really being selfless – he would leave her alone completely. Oliver doesn’t want to be with Laurel, but he doesn’t want her to move on from him either. It’s selfish.
Oliver isn’t the only one lying to Laurel. Tommy is too, but we know why. Oliver’s secret is not his to tell, but there’s another reason he finally admits to in “Home Invasion.”
Tumblr media
Source: @htbthomas
Is Tommy right about Laurel choosing Oliver? Yeah, probably. I believed that when I first watched Season 1 and I still believe it now. If she was fully committed to Tommy then The Hood couldn’t have any effect on her. If Laurel was fully committed to Tommy, then Oliver would truly be just a friend. She would tell Tommy about the lunches. Or she would say it’s not appropriate and she cannot be the shoulder Oliver cries on.
Instead, Laurel tethers herself to both The Hood and Oliver in a way that grazes the line between friends and more than friends. Those lines should always be clear if you are in a committed relationship. She is being unfair to Tommy.
But again, Laurel isn’t dealing with all the information. So, there’s only so much I fault her at this point. What Oliver is doing is very manipulative and it shows, quite frankly, that when it comes to Laurel – he hasn’t changed much. It doesn’t endear Laurel to me that she can’t see Tommy is the perfect man for her, but at this point in the season I am laying the blame for this toxic cycle more at Oliver’s feet than hers.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, Tommy makes the biggest mistake of his life and breaks up with Laurel. I understand why. Tommy has some self respect and knows there’s something going on between Laurel and Oliver. Tommy knows he’s competing with a mythic romance novel like persona and he feels he doesn’t measure up in comparison, which is the real reason he leaves. He’s wrong in every way possible. You don’t need to dress up in a hood and save the city to be a good man.
Tommy: I guess I haven’t changed as much as we all thought then.
He can barely get the words out as he ends their relationship. Laurel is understandably shocked and confused. This seems to be a 180 degree turn from where they were just a day ago. To say this breakup was abrupt would be an understatement.
The saddest part is Tommy truly has changed. He should stay and fight for Laurel because what they have is real and worth saving. They’ve made their own history, one that doesn’t have anything to do with Oliver Queen. (Are you feeling the Joey & Pacey versus Dawson parallel?)
But Tommy is right about something. Laurel and Oliver need to deal with their baggage, so she can find always with the right man - the man who wants a future with her and not the man trying to erase the past.
Oliver and Diggle
If Arrow is pushing us to root for a Laurel and Oliver reunion, they are doing a spectacularly bad job at it. Oliver has promised Diggle he will help kill Floyd Lawton, but in the end he abandons John and Deadshot gets away. Diggle feels betrayed primarily because well… Oliver betrayed him.
Diggle: I needed you there, man.
Tumblr media
The choice between Lawton and Rasmus was a simple one. Deadshot was the bigger threat and the harder target to capture. Oliver can be pretty mechanical when it comes to making these types of choices, so it was surprising when he chose the corrupt investment broker over the assassin.
Four ARGUS agents died trying to capture Lawton. It really didn’t need to be a choice for Oliver. Why couldn’t Felicity call in a tip to Detective Lance and let Starling PD arrest Rasmus?
Tumblr media
Source: bj-hunnicutts-blog
Because then The Hood couldn’t be the hero for Laurel. Oliver got to strut into the mansion and announce Rasmus was arrested, there was no longer a threat to the boy or Laurel, and The Hood was the man who saved the day. The pleased little smile on Laurel’s face, this latest rescue more proof that The Hood was a good man who cared for her, was Oliver’s reward. He scored points with Laurel. Oliver may not be cashing them in, but he’s collecting points all the same.
This does not make his actions completely altruistic, which is why Diggle is angry. John knows Oliver was trying to look good in front of Laurel and he put that desire before his friendship with John. Proving to Laurel that he’s a changed man is just as much a part of Oliver’s mission as The List. He broke his promise to John.  Oliver didn’t help Diggle complete his mission to avenge his brother. Instead, Oliver continued to pursue his own.
Tumblr media
 Source: bj-hunnicutts-blog
If Oliver choosing Laurel is a good thing then why is there all this collateral damage around him?  Tommy, Diggle, Lyla, ARGUS agents, even Felicity, have been hurt by this choice.
Oliver: Something to say, Felicity? Felicity: Nothing you want to hear.
This is not an accident on the writers’ part. They could’ve easily shown the scenario I posed about (re: Felicity tipping off Quentin) or Diggle understanding and supporting Oliver choosing Laurel. It didn’t have to play out like this. Remember they are the ones crafting the story here. It’s their choice.
They are doing this for a REASON. Oliver did not make the right decision in “Home Invasion.” The writers are not saying Oliver and Laurel should be together and the rest of the world be damned. Quite the opposite.
Relationships cannot exist in a bubble. Just because you love someone doesn’t give you the right to hurt people in the name of that love. We can become blind to other people's feelings and consumed by our emotions for one singular person, but that’s not necessarily a good thing.
Spike: Trust is for old marrieds, Buffy. Great love is wild and passionate and dangerous. It burns and consumes.
Buffy: Until there's nothing left. Love like that doesn't last.
Not a BTVS fan? Let’s try The Vampire Diaries:
Damon: I thought you broke my heart so I ripped open Aaron’s neck that is how much control you have over me.
Elena: And I'm still here, that's how much control you have over me.
Damon: Listen to us. This is toxic. We are in a toxic relationship, Elena.
Oliver isn’t consumed by love for Laurel, but he is consumed by regret. Guilt can be just as powerful emotion as love. We know Oliver hasn’t always chosen Laurel – hell we saw it in the freaking flashback this episode.
Tumblr media
Oliver kisses Shado as she tries to teach him to be an archer. He’s been away from Laurel (AND SARA) for few weeks (months?) and he’s already kissing someone else. These are not the actions of a man deeply in love.
Oliver: There’s someone. And it’s a mile past complicated, but I can’t.
Shado: Does she know how much you love her?
Oliver: I suspect right now she doesn’t. But as soon as I’m home, she will.
The Arrow writers either have a very wacked perspective on what love, fidelity and devotion mean or they are trying to make a point. Oliver didn’t choose Laurel in the past and it led to some disastrous consequences.
But Oliver choosing Laurel in the present has also led to some disastrous consequences. So maybe, just maybe, Oliver and Laurel isn’t a good thing. True love wouldn’t leave this much human wreckage in its wake. Maybe this isn’t the “always” Oliver should be pursuing.
Diggle: The only thing that will stop me from going out that door is an arrow.
And they are using John Diggle, the man guiding Oliver on his path to righteousness, to make that point.
Stray Thoughts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HE LOOKS. You cannot beat the Stemily chemistry. These scenes are gold.
YASSS Diggle shirtless. There needs to be more Diggle shirtless.
Lyla is pissed John didn’t tell her Deadshot killed his brother. She’s going to arrest him if he continues to get in the way. Hmm… handcuffs. Has potential. *evil cackle*
Tommy also lied to Laurel about Oliver being cool with him leaving the club for a job with his dad. It’s like watching these two swirl down a toilet bowl honestly.
Oliver in a towel is always welcomed no matter how ticked off I am at him.
“I can’t explain it but it feels like my life is connected to his.” Roy and Thea are united in the hunt for The Hood. Finally these two get a storyline I care about.
The badge was a fake. This is actually a really good safety tip. Should I know what a valid badge number looks like? Feel like I should know that.
“I’m feeling like it might be time for you to move.” Preach.  Does Laurel have insurance? Who pays to fix her apartment all the time? I think she’s needed a new couch like three times already.
Lyla’s code name is Harbringer. Hello comics!
Lawton doesn’t kill Diggle because he hasn’t been paid to? That is convenient, isn’t it? Come on show. Do better with valid reasons for getting characters out of jams when Oliver isn’t available.
Are we going to talk about WHY a world class assassin was hired to kill John’s brother? I feel like there’s major backstory there.
Where is Shado getting all the arrows?
“I liked who my son was when he was around you.” If Moira Queen is pro Lauriver then that’s all the proof I need to swear off that relationship. The evil spirits are coming to get me. No thanks.
Oliver has killed 26 people (that the cops know about) since returning home. Yeesh. That’s a lot.
Can you really break off a doorknob to keep someone from entering the room?
“No, Ollie is still out there!” Oh honestly Tommy, just let her go. Maybe a bullet will snap some sense into her.

another list of all my fancasts this universe, since i’ve just revamped my dc ocs too! please note that these fancasts only apply to my ocs who are specifically stated to be for the dc comics universe, as my recasts for the dceu are a completely different thing. this list is made up of a combination of my own ideas for recasts and popular castings that i’ve seen on other platforms, and also that not every character has been included here because there are several that i like with the actors currently portraying them. you all can definitely feel free to use any and all of these for yourselves!

15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25 from the fixed ask game for john diggle (arrow)
i know its a lot im sorry T.T
Hii anon! Sorry it took so long for me to answer. And it’s totally okay I love answering asks!!
15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)
Dyla (dig and Lyla.) they couldn’t love each other outside the battlefield so they separated, they
16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?
I don’t really have one?? I’m a multishipper so it’s kind of hard to choose which one is my least favorite. Though I think that they shouldn’t have rushed to get Diggle together with Lyla so soon. Not like “give Diggle more love interests/pairings” (though I wouldn’t have been mad if we got that) but just let him be single WITHOUT a crush or anything if that makes sense.
17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?
Read above ^^
18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
Oliver and Diggle. I could talk about their friendship and stuff for HOURS. How they really do make each other better. I think a lot of people see they’re friendship as “Diggle helped better Oliver and kickstarted him down the green arrow path” or like, Diggle as a stepping stone for Oliver when in actuality they were stepping stones for each other and so much more. Like, When John killed Andy and was about to let himself rot in prison: Oliver pulled him out and gave him somewhere to
19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?
Ehh I don’t really have one??? BUT i don’t like how the writers made him brush off his grudge against floyd lawton after working with him and Amanda Waller for a day. He should’ve stayed at list a little mad.
23. Favorite picture of this character?
Tumblr media
This!!
24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?
I don’t have one really. John is such a special character and I love him so much I guess my brain just doesn’t try to pick out similarities between him and other characters (if that makes sense.)
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Longsuffering accomplice to Oliver’s vigilantism. Now I think he’s someone with strict moral code and priorities who’s not afraid to bend (and sometimes break) for his family and friends. Also someone who’s been through so fucking much??? Like this guy has so much trauma that just goes untalked about?? His father died when he was young. His mom married the guy that was at fault for his father’s death. That guy (his stepdad) was a dick. He joined the army. His brother was presumed dead and he blamed himself for not being able to save him. Then he’s hired as a bodyguard for a guy who just got back from an island and is thrown into his crusade to save his city. This guys now his best friend and he has a wife and daughter, except NOW his best friend kidnapped his wife and left their infant daughter ALONE in an apartment. Then his best friends ran off together and left him to lead the team and protect the city. THEN they come back THEN he finds out that his brother is alive and that he’s been working for an evil organization that their villain of the week is partnered with/runs (can’t remember exactly HOW Damien Darhk was connected to hive) THEN his best friend (who he recently made up with) keeps pushing for him to help his brother but he obviously doesn’t trust either of them THEN he finally agrees to help his brother/try to save him and locks him in a cell/metal box in the bunker and goes to see him everyday THEN WHEN HE FINALLY THINKS THAT HIS BROTHER IS ON HIS SIDE AGAIN HE TURNS ON HIM AND HIS FRIEND DIES BECAUSE OF IT. THEN HE ACCIDENTALLY OFFS HIS BROTHER THEN HE LEAVES HIS TEAM AND FRIENDS BECAUSE HES SO GUILTY AND GOES BACK TO THE ARMY. THEN GETS IN TROUBLE AND ALMOST LETS HIMSELF ROT IN JAIL BECAUSE HES THINKS HE DESERVES IT FOR LAUREL DYING AND KILLING ANDY. I could go on and on about how much TRAUMA he has and then his green lantern arc was just SHOVED UNDER THE RUG??? Like, we could’ve gotten Diggle as a main MAIN character again but nooooo. He’s such a layered character and it was all thrown under the rug after arrow ended.
Sorry, I have a lot feelings about his character and some of them are intelligible. So uh yeah.

Healing & Scars - The Undertaking
Summary: Oliver and Felicity work together to bring Walter home.
A/N: I do not own Arrow just my own little twist to this AU series.
Beep.
“Call Cayman Fidelity.” Mr. Blackman told his three men as he placed money into a suitcase. “Tell them their favorite accountant is flying in to make a special deposit for a special client.”
He passed the briefcase off to the men just as the elevator bell dinged. Mr. Backman looked up, alarmed. “That elevator’s supposed to be on a key. Go. Check it out.”
The three men did as they were told and The Hood intercepted them, making quick work of them. The money that had been in the metal briefcase, floating through air to the floor.
Mr. Blackman stood in the doorway to his office, gripping tightly to a laptop.
“Harold Backman, you failed this city.”
He stumbled back as the Hood loomed over him, pushing him into the wall. “I’m only an accountant. I’m just the money.”
“The money that leads to extortion, kidnapping, and drugs. It’s the destruction of innocent lives!” The Hood snapped angrily.
“You think you scare me more than the people I work for?” Mr. Blackman asked, his back flat against the wall.
“No.” The Hood answered. “They can deal with you.”
Oliver’s fist slammed into his face, knocking him out. He took the laptop off the man and was gone.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Oliver set the laptop on the edge of Felicity’s desk where she was seated.
“Hmm. Let me guess. Some bad guy missing his fancy new laptop.” Felicity commented, running her hands over it.
Oliver moved to stand behind her. “Harold Backman. He’s who Starling City’s worst call when they want to launder money in the Caymans.”
Felicity looked over her shoulder at him. “Shouldn’t we just turn this over to, I don’t know, the IRS?”
“We will.” answered Oliver. “Just as soon as you return the money to the rightful owners.”
“Well, it sounds like a very nice idea. Backman’s files are all protected with an asymmetric encryption algorithm.” Felicity commented as she looked the laptop’s data over.
“Really?” asked Oliver. “So it’s gonna take a while to break in.”
“Days, at least,” Felicity answered.
“Better get started, then.” Oliver put his bow down.
Felicity stood, following him. “At the risk of ending up with an arrow in my eye, can I ask… When are you planning on making peace with Diggle?”
Oliver shook his head. “He’s the one who left, Felicity. I did everything I could to stop him.”
Why did he have to be so stubborn?
“Except apologize.” Felicity pointed out. “You promised you’d help him track down Floyd Lawton and then you–”
“Made a choice that I can live with.” Oliver cut her off. “If he can’t, then I don’t need him. I need to get back to the club.”
“Oliver–” Felicity protested.
“Let me know when you break in.” Oliver said, acting as if she hadn’t spoken.
Felicity turned back to the computers as he walked away, muttering to herself. “I wish someone would send me off to the Caymans.”
Oliver was so frustrating, she was starting to think John had the better deal.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Laurel sat at the bar, drinking from a white cup.
Oliver walked behind the bar. “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.”
“This coffee’s terrible, Oliver.” Laurel told him.
“That’s what you get for ordering coffee in a bar,” Oliver said, coming to stand at the bar across from her. “You look tired. Too much work?”
“Too much crying.” Laurel answered, setting the coffee cup down. “Tommy broke up with me.”
Oliver looked at her in surprise. “What happened?”
“I have no idea. Things were good. They were… Great, and then suddenly he’s packing up his things and telling me that it’s over. Did he say anything to you?” Laurel asked, looking to him for answers.
“No.” Oliver shook his head. “Tommy and I haven’t talked very much since he quit. But he’ll come around. It’s probably just cold feet.”
“Like it was with you,” said Laurel, catching Oliver off guard. “Oliver, you don’t sleep with your girlfriend’s sister unless you’re looking to blow the relationship up.”
“If you still want to be with Tommy, do what we should have done.” Oliver told her. “Talk to each other and be honest.”
“Oliver, I need to show you what–” Felicity cut herself off after catching sight of them. “I just totally walked in on a thing, didn’t I?”
“I’m sorry, uh, who are you?” asked Laurel, surprised by the spectacle blonde’s sudden appearance, through the back door near the bar.
“Nobody. I mean, I’m not nobody. I’m someone, obviously. And so are you. You’re Laurel, right?” Felicity looked at Oliver, who wore an amused smile. “That Laurel. Gorgeous Laurel.”
Oliver turned back to Laurel. “This is Felicity. She’s setting up my Internet.”
“Router.” Felicity corrected, smiling politely. “And I need to show Oliver something very important related to it.”
Laurel looked from Oliver to Felicity and then back to Oliver. “I’ll let you go, then. Thank you for the coffee... and the advice.”
Oliver nodded and followed behind Felicity, Laurel watching them go. She didn’t entirely buy their story.
Sometimes it appeared that Oliver changed and others not so much. Like right now.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Oliver followed Felicity down the stairs. “Tell me you got in.”
“Better. I hacked Cayman Fidelity and put together a list of all the deposits Backman made last year.” Felicity answered, handing a piece of paper to him from the printer.
“Felicity, what good does that do us if we don’t know whose money it was?” Oliver said, holding the paper in his hand.
“Look at the biggest deposit Backman made last year.” Felicity insisted. “Bottom page.”
Oliver followed her instruction. “$2 million on Decem– December 12. That’s…” Oliver trailed off with realization.
“The day Walter disappeared.” Felicity finished for him, heading over to her computer station. “What if one of Backman’s clients was paid 2 million to kidnap Walter?”
Oliver came to stand beside her. “Then we find out which client it was...And we use them to find Walter.”
Oliver and Felicity shared a look. Finally, they had a lead on Walter after all this time.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
“Ok, back-trace the account, follow the money. Hopefully, it will lead us to whoever kidnapped Walter.” Oliver said, standing at Felicity’s shoulder as she worked her magic.
“After all this time, do you think Walter might still really be alive?” she asked.
“I don’t know.” Oliver answered.
 Her searched beeped. “Got it.”
Oliver let out a groan when a dark hair man’s photo appeared.
“Dominic Alonzo.” said Felicity.
“Yeah.” said Oliver, looking at the screen.
“Name ring a bell?” Felicity asked.
“Alonzo runs the biggest underground casino in Starling City when he’s not busy kidnapping.” Oliver answered.
“He looks like the kind of lowlife someone would hire to kidnap Walter. How many arrows do you think you’ll have to put in him before he gives up Walter’s location?” Felicity looked up at him. “Say a lot?”
“It’s not that simple.” Oliver gave a shake of his head. “That casino has its own private army. We need to access Alonzo’s computer, but without setting off any alarms.”
“Looks like we’re gonna need all the help we can get. It’s too bad there’s not someone else we could call.” Felicity said leadingly.
“That’s enough.” Oliver looked at her. “We can do this on our own.”
Felicity looked back at her computers. “Well, then... Looks like someone’s going gambling tonight.”
Oliver shook his head. “Those guys would make me the minute that I walked in there. Oliver Queen would never be caught dead in a place like that.”
Felicity looked up at him. ”I wasn’t talking about you.”
“Absolutely not,” said Oliver, looking at her. He couldn’t put her in danger like that.
Felicity stood from her chair to face him. “I can count cards. It’s all probability theory and mathematics. Have you met me? Bottom line..I know my way around a casino.”
“Felicity, I’m not letting you walk– “
Felicity cut him off firmly. “The reason I joined you in the first place was to find Walter, and for the first time, we have a real chance of finding him. You have to let me do this.”
Oliver stared at her silently. He had a feeling she was going to do what she wanted to do, regardless of what he said.
“All right,” said Oliver, seeing how determined she was. “But we do it my way.”
Felicity nodded in agreement. She would feel better knowing he had her back.
“Come on,” he told her, and Felicity followed him.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Felicity knocked lightly on the wooden door.
She didn’t have to wait long before it was pulled open.
“What do you want?” John asked her.
“Is that any way to treat a girl who just walked up 6 flights of stairs?” Felicity asked. She hadn’t thought he would be happy to see her, but she thought she would get a better greeting than that.
“No, it’s not.” John admitted and opened his door wider. “Where are my manners? Come on in.”
“Thank you.” Felicity said, walking past him.
“Welcome.” John shut and locked the door behind her.
Felicity looked around as John walked over to his fridge. “Did you do these?” she asked, noticing the paintings on the wall.
John handed her a beer. “You know, Felicity, Oliver and I don’t need a relationship counselor.”
“That hasn’t been my experience.” Felicity took a seat on the couch next to him, setting her beer on the table. ”We have a lead on Walter. I need you to come back and help us find him.”
“Oliver, put you up to this?” John asked, angling his body toward her.
“No. He doesn’t even know I’m here.” Felicity admitted. “Look. I know Oliver didn’t help you find your brother’s killer, and that hurts. It sucks. But...You gotta know if it was your life on the line on not just your... very understandable vendetta, he would be there for you. No hesitation.”
She believed Oliver thought he was making the right choice, even if he was looking through Laurel blinders.
“And I don’t want a partnership with those kinds of qualifications, Felicity.” John told her.
“I know Oliver’s religiously against admitting he’s wrong. Truth is, he needs you.” Said Felicity sincerely.
“Yeah. And when Oliver is ready to say that, he knows where I live,” John told her.
Felicity sighed and stood up to leave. “Sorry for bothering you.”
“It’s no bother. I hope you find him.” John said, standing as well.
Felicity let herself out of his apartment, closing the door behind her, wishing that had gone better.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Felicity smoothed the red dress down, looking at herself in the bathroom of her apartment, she had to pull a wrap around her shoulder’s covering the scar she got for healing Oliver the first time, her hair and makeup was done perfectly and she had replaced her glasses and went with her contacts.
She stepped out just as the doorbell rang. Grabbing her clutched, she pulled her door open.
Oliver's eyes took her in, his eyes moving over her slowly.
“Do I look okay?” Felicity asked, unsure what to make of the intense look in his blue eyes.
“Okay?” Oliver repeated. “You look.. You look beautiful.”
Felicity's cheeks heated. “Thank you.”
Oliver offered her his arm, and she stepped out, closing and locking her door behind her.
Oliver looked at her out of the corner of his eye, hoping the sight of her in that dress didn’t haunt his dreams.
He would never tell her this, but when she opened her door, looking the way she did, she took his breath from him and for a moment he forgot about the mission and all that was left was her.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
“You ready?” Oliver asked as he and Felicity walked down the dark alley.
“I think so. Just to be clear, the plan is for me to get caught counting cards in an underground casino filled with hardened criminals.” Felicity rambled, her nerves showing.
“So you can get a friendly warning from Alonzo and plant a bug on his office computer.” Oliver ran the plan by her again.
“Right. Which will hopefully lead us to Walter. That is assuming I get the friendly warning and not a bullet.” Felicity said, unable to hide the tinge of fear in her voice.
Oliver turned her to face him. “You don’t have to do this.”
“Yes, I do.” Felicity argued. .
“Ok. If anything happens, I’m right outside,” Oliver assured her.
“Ok.” said Felicity, turning away from him, knowing he would be there made it a little easier to do this with all the risk.
Oliver stepped away to go to his designated spot.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
A man walked up to the casino doors.
“Password.” said the man standing guard.
“Snapdragon.” The man answered.
Oliver was watching through a pair of binoculars from a fire escape. “Password’s snapdragon.”
Felicity approached the door.
“Password.” said the guard.
“Snapdragon.” Felicity answered.
The guard stepped aside, letting her inside.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Music mix with chatter filled the casino as Felicity walked in.
“Hi.” Felicity greeted one of the guards inside.
“What do you see?” asked Oliver through the com in Felicity’s right ear.
Felicity walked further in, surveying the floor. “6 armed guards, 2 pit bosses, and a floor man. No slot machines. How do you call yourself a casino without any Lucky 7s?”
“Stay focused, please.” Said Oliver. She couldn’t afford to get distracted. “I’ll be with you the entire time.”
“Thanks.” Felicity pressed her hand against the calm, sighing. “It feels really good having you inside me.” Felicity's eyes widened. She couldn’t believe she just said that. “And by “you,” I mean your voice. And by “me,” I mean my ear.” Oh God, she was just making it worse. Her face scrunched up in mortification. “I’m gonna stop talking right now.”
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
“That would be my preference.” Oliver said tensely from his perch on the fire escape. He did not need to think about what it would be like to be inside of her for the sake of his own sanity.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Felicity joined a poker table, producing a stack of cash from her clutch. “One stack of High Society, please.”
The card dealer excepted with surprise, not expecting it.
Felicity smiled as the others looked at her, an air of confidence surrounding her.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Felicity pushed all her chips forward, watching the dealer closely as he dealt the cards. “Oh!” she cheered.
“Blackjack!” the dealer called.
Other players let out sounds of shock at her good fortune.
Felicity laugh happily, lifting a glass of champagne to her lips as her winnings were pushed toward her.
“Miss…” A guard appeared at her side. “Can you come with me?”
Felicity looked at him. “Is something wrong?”
The man leaned forward, glaring. “Get up.”
Felicity looked around and then at him. “Oh, since you ask so nicely.”
When she stood, he took her by the arm and began leading her away, his grip tighter than she would’ve liked.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
They led felicity down a small, dark corridor, the guard gripping her arm. Two more guards following behind them. “Oh, there’s the bathroom. I should have known the manager’s office would be down the hall and to the right of the bathroom.”
They reached the office, and Felicity was dragged inside with the two other guards standing guard outside.
“Mr. Alonzo.” the one gripping her arm said, pushing her into the room and releasing her.
Mr. Alonzo ended his phone call. “Have a seat. What’s your name?”
Felicity took a seat as the guard closed the door. “Megan.”
“Do you know where the term “86” comes from, Megan?” asked Alonzo as she discreetly got out her info copying device.
“As it happens, I do.” Felicity moved her hands around as she talked. “It’s from prohibition. There was a-- an illegal casino, not like this one, located at 86 Bedford street in New York, and…” she placed it on the back of the monitor next to her undetected. “God, you know, I’m just gonna stop talking.”
“Now it means to ban someone, someone who’s cheating.” Mr. Alonzo informed her. ”You’re 86’d. Leave your chips and go.”
“Thank you. Thank you,” said Felicity gratefully and stood to leave, but when she turned, the guard blocked her path, pulling out a detector.
Mr. Alonzo walked around his desk. “Oh, yeah, Megan, one more thing. You see, the thing about card counters is, uh…” he reached beneath her hair and her entire body tensed as he removed her com. “Sometimes they work... with a partner.”
Felicity stood still as he dropped to the ground and crushed beneath his shoe.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Oliver clenched his jaw. Felicity had been made. He stood. He had to get to her.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Felicity looked at Alonzo without fear. “You’re gonna be really upset when you meet my partner.”
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Oliver came bursting into the casino decked out as the Hood.
Arrows firing, taking on the guards and pit bosses, card dealers, the room exploded into chaos. Arrows, gun fire. Screams and people running for their lives.
Oliver made quick work and kicked in the office door after dispatching the two men standing guard.
Alonzo had Felicity by the throat and a gun to her head. Oliver fired his arrow, hitting the dart behind him.
Alonzo smirked. “I heard you never miss.”
“I don’t.” Oliver answered as the arrow he shot beeped.
The arrow exploded. Alonzo released her, startled. Felicity cried out, throwing herself to the ground.
Oliver seized Alonzo, disarming him and slamming him against the wall.
“Uhh!” Alonzo groaned.
Oliver wrapped his hand around his throat tightly. “Where’s Walter Steele?”
“What? What are you talking about, huh?”
“6 months ago you had him kidnapped!” Oliver snapped.
Felicity stood, her hand on her neck. She had heard Oliver being intimidating and threatening over coms, but it was different witnessing it firsthand.
“It was just a job. I was given a name. I didn’t ask any questions.” Alonzo told him.
Oliver tightened his grip on his neck and slammed him against the wall. “Last chance. Where is he?”
“Below ground.” Alonzo answered.
Felicity’s head hand fell away from her neck, her stomach sinking.
“You’re lying!” Oliver accused.
“I’m not. I delivered him and they killed him. I heard the gun. He’s dead.” Alonzo told him.
Oliver glared, slamming his fist into his face, knocking the man out cold. He dropped to the floor, unconscious.
Tears filled Felicity’s eyes. Oliver turned around slowly, and pushed his hood back, looking at Felicity, who was struggling not to cry. Her face one of grief and sadness.
Felicity couldn’t believe Walter was dead. He didn’t deserve this. He was a good person. He shouldn’t be dead.

Moira and Thea were seated on the couch, shopping on Thea’s tablet.
“Oh, let’s see that blouse in that violet shade.” Moira said and Thea changed the color. “You’re a miracle worker, Thea.” Moira chuckled.
“Oh, when it comes to shopping, it’s not work, really,” said Thea, and they both laughed.
Oliver walked in, his look grim.
“Hey. I’m teaching mom the joys of online clothes shopping.” Thea looked up at him. “Ollie? Are you ok?”
Oliver sat in an armchair facing them. “I need to talk to you both.”
Thea took the tablet from her mother.
Moira sat up straighter, focusing on Oliver. “What is it?”
“It’s about Walter.” Oliver said.
“Did the police contact you?” asked Moira.
“One of Mr. Diggle’s army buddies works for the FBI now. And they got news tonight.” Oliver told her, choosing his words carefully.
“No.” Moira said.
Oliver looked his mother in the eye. “I’m very sorry.”
“No, no, no, no, no. There must be some mistake.” Moira shook her head in denial. “Who did Mr. Diggle talk to? Did they find a body?”
Moira stood.
“Mom… Walter’s gone.” Oliver said as she walked past him.
“No. This isn’t right.” Moira insisted.
“Where are you going?” Moira asked.
“Out.” Moira answered. “I need some air.”
“It’s 10:00 at night. Mom, you’re in shock.” Oliver called after.
Moira whirled around. “Don’t tell me what or how I feel, Oliver.”
Thea stood. “Why is she acting like that?” she asked, watching her mother leave.
“Come here.” Oliver gathered his sister in his arms, and she began crying against him.

Moira came storming into Malcolm Merlyn’s office. “You lied to me. We had a deal.”
Malcolm was in the middle of a meeting with two older Chinese men. ”Gong dag. Gong-pa-ma-tsom.” he stood.
The two men excused themselves.
“What are you talking about?” asked Malcolm when they were gone.
Moira stopped directly in front of his desk. “You promised if I cooperated with the Undertaking, Walter wouldn’t be harmed!”
“He hasn’t been. I’m a man of my word, Moira.” Malcolm told her.
“We both know better than that. And I know…” she locked eyes with him. “I know you’ve had him killed.”
Malcolm pressed a button on his com.
It beeped.
“Turn on the camera.” Malcolm said and turned his laptop around.
Moira saw a live camera feed of Walter. “Oh, Walter…” she said, half despair, half relief.
“Like you said, Moira, we have an agreement.” Said Malcolm.
Unbeknownst to them and Arrow stuck out of the outside wall, transmitting the sound to Oliver’s com where he stood on the balcony across from Malcolm’s office.
Oliver’s expression was one of betrayal.

“Walter would stay in my custody until the Undertaking was complete. We’re both in this together.” Malcolm told her.

Oliver sat against the pillar in the dark foundry.
A door unlocked as Felicity came in through the back entrance and turned the light on. “I’ve been sitting in the dark all night, too.” It did not surprise her to see him. “All these months I kept thinking if I could find a clue, I could get a lead on him. Guess it wouldn’t have mattered. I can’t imagine what your family’s going through.”
“Walter’s alive.” Oliver didn’t look at her.
“What?” Felicity looked at him, surprised. “But Alonzo said–”
“I need you to pull up Malcolm Merlyn’s phone records.” He cut her off. “He made a call from his office to wherever Walter is being kept at 10:30 p.m.”
“Malcolm Merlyn? Tommy’s father?” Felicity questioned. “Why would he kidnap Walter?”
“Felicity.” Oliver looked at her, his gaze cutting.
Felicity sat down at her computers and with a few taps of her fingers to the keyboard and brought up the info Oliver wanted. “L.U.D. showed he made a call to a tenement complex located in Bludhaven.”
Oliver stood, standing over her right shoulder. “Can you pull up a satellite view?”
“Ok. That’s a lot of security for low-income housing. There’s two guards stationed at all access points.” said Felicity.
“There’s just one on the roof.” Oliver noted.
“Exactly. There’s no other buildings in that area. If you want to get onto the roof, you’re going to have to jump off of something.” Felicity looked up at him.
“I’ve got something,” Oliver answered through his clenched jaw and moved away.
Felicity watched his retreating back before returning her focus to her computers, afraid to hope.

Oliver parachuted onto the roof and quickly took out the guy on the stairs, making his way inside.
In a stairwell, he took out another guard and made his way further inside.
As he walked down the hall, he encountered more men and the more he took out, the more came. He took them out using his arrows and hand to hand combat. By the time he made it past them, the hallway was filled with bodies.
Oliver turned into a passageway, stopping at a steel door with a sliding lock. He slid the lock back, unlocking the door, and pushed it opened.
The room was small, with a prison cot and a steel bucket. Walter laid on the bed, his back to him.
Oliver placed his hand over the left side of his chest cautiously, pressing his voice modulator. “Mr. Steele.” the man didn’t move, he stepped further into the room. “Walter.”
Walter turned, looking at the hood in surprise. “What? What’s happening?”
Oliver pressed his back to the door, relieved that Walter was indeed alive, keeping his head angled down so Walter couldn’t see who he was beneath the mask. “You’re going home.”
Walter sat up, relieved.

Moira looked at Walter in the hospital bed through the glass window in the door. Walter turned and looked at her, his eyes lighting up. Moira pushed the door open, rushing forward, eyes shining. “I thought I’d never see you again.”
Walter hugged her tightly. “I’m all right.”
Oliver stepped into the room with Thea. “Welcome home, Walter.”
Walter released Moira. “Thank you, son.”
Oliver smiled faintly.
“Thea.” Walter said at the sight of her.
Thea chuckles, throwing her arms around him in relief.
Felicity stepped into the doorway holding a bokay of get well flowers, her smile bright.
“This is totally a family thing, isn’t it?” asked Felicity as Thea and Moira separated from Walter to look at her.
Moira looked at her, confused. “I’m sorry. Who are you?”
Oliver stepped next to her, his hand on her back. ”This is Felicity. She’s my friend.”
Walter smiled at Felicity. “Mine, too. It’s good to see you.”
“You, too.” Felicity said, relief showing in her eyes. “I’ll let you guys get back to your hugging.”
She set the flowers down and smiled at Oliver, stepping back out of the room.
Thea and Moira threw their arms around Walter, laughing and crying.
Felicity looked back once, smiling at Oliver, then at Walter and left.
Oliver moved to stand with his family.
“We’re all together again.” Moira reached out for Oliver. “Everything’s gonna be all right.”
Oliver looked at her, his mind a mess, his emotions brimming to the surface.

Oliver stepped out of Walter’s room.
“Oliver.” Malcolm called from behind him.
Oliver steeled himself and turned around to face him.
“Ah. What a miracle. How’s Walter?” Malcolm asked. “The police are saying that he was rescued by the Vigilante.”
“Yes, he was.” Oliver answered.
“Has he said anything about his ordeal?” Malcolm shook his head. “Was he able to identify any of his captors?”
“No.” Oliver shook his head.
“Hmm.” Malcolm nodded. “That’s too bad.”
“They’ll get what’s coming to them.” Oliver looked him in the eye. “I’m just glad that my family is back together.”
It took everything in Oliver not to take the man out now.
“We all are,” Said Malcolm.
“Ollie.” Laurel's voice came from behind him.
Oliver looked over his shoulder to see Laurel standing expectantly at the end of the hall. “Excuse me,” he said to Malcolm and turned away from him.
“Is Walter ok?” Laurel asked when he reached her. “I saw it on the news.”
“Yeah. Are you ok?” Oliver asked her.
“Of course. I promise you, now is not the time.” She replied.
“It’s you and Tommy.” Oliver said knowingly.
“You and me, actually.” Laurel countered. “I talked to Tommy yesterday, and the reason he broke up with me is because he thinks that you and I still belong together.”
“What did you say?” Oliver asked.
“Nothing.” Laurel told him. “He walked out on me.”
Oliver swallowed. “I just want you to be happy. It’s what I’ve always wanted.”
“Then will you please go talk to Tommy for me?” Laurel asked, taking a step toward him.
“And say what?” asked Oliver.
“Say that you and I are over. That you’re not still in love with me,” Laurel insisted.
Oliver shook his head slowly. “I can’t do that.”
“Why not?” Laurel demanded.
“Because it wouldn’t be true.” Oliver said, Laurel’s lips parted in shock. “And I have enough lies in my life already.”
Oliver walked around her, disappearing down the hall. Laurel sucked in a breath, exhaling shakily, tears in her eyes.

There was a knock on John’s door. He looked through the peephole and hesitated before pulling it open. “I guess you do know where I live.”  “I’ve always known where you live,” Oliver responded. John rolled his shoulders. “May I?” Oliver asked.
John spread his arm, wordlessly inviting him slowly.
Oliver stepped inside. “I’m sorry,” he said before walking further into John’s apartment. “You were right. And I was wrong.”
John closed the door behind him. “About Deadshot?”
“About everything.” Oliver turned to face him. “About my mother and about her involvement in the Undertaking. She lied to me. To Thea. She’s working with Malcolm Merlyn. They’re planning something. Something… Terrible. I don’t know what yet. But I just know one thing.” he looked John in the eye. “I need your help to stop them.”
He couldn’t do this alone. He needed both John and Felicity if he was going to stop Malcolm and his plan and whatever they were planning for the people of Starling, and it was his responsibility.
He could not fail.
