i know people like you only see detransitioners as rhetorical tools to use against trans people, but the truth is that detransition is just another kind of transition. why would i be any more afraid of that one than i am of the one i’m in right now? if i was afraid of transitioning, of taking matters into my own hands when the body i have doesn’t feel like home anymore, i wouldn’t have transitioned in the first place. i’m where i am because i truly love this process, because it brings joy into my life, not because i fear it. being human means a life of constant change; none of us are the same people we were ten years ago. i for one won’t run from that change — i intend to greet the person i’m becoming with open arms, however different they might be from who i am now, and i’m sure that whoever they are, they wouldn’t want me to make my life miserable now just so theirs might be a little bit easier.

Hey so if you truly think that not voting is neutral or a good form of protest, please take one moment to think about why there are so many bot-written comments and whole misinformation campaigns dedicated to keep you from casting your vote. And why gerrymandering is a thing. Why the right to vote first was only given to the rich and wealthy, why the fight for woman's suffrage took so long, and why some people are still barred from voting today. Why facists show up at the booth to threaten voters, and why they pass laws that serve no other purpose but voter suppression. Because your vote has power, however little. i am genuinely baffled by “if you choose to vote you’re an evil idiot” vs. “actually, voting will save the world” discourse. this is such a non-conversation to me. first of all, yes, of course biden is evil. he’s the president of the United States. his job is to preserve the interests of the country that revolutionized genocide. putting pressure on that system requires coordinated external action and accumulation of power

but unfortunately, as it stands, run-of-the-mill abstention purely on the basis of “they all suck” is little more than an exercise in personal moral superiority. don’t get me wrong, abstention can be useful! but it fails to damage or “punish” our system because voting is not mandatory in the US. in fact, many right-wing politicians have poured their time and energy into making voting as inaccessible and unattractive as humanly possible. “you’re better off not voting, blue states are just as bad as red states” no they aren’t, lol. “yeah, you’re right! voting is the only way to—” i assure you, we cannot rely on this system to destroy what it was built to uphold. both of these worldviews overemphasize the power of electoral politics; neither is particularly constructive.

i don’t have beef with my politically active friends who (for whatever reason) abstain, there are compelling reasons for it, but—personally—i vote with the same exhausted banality that i use the cart return at the grocery store. like? I refuse to lionize the system, but there’s no sense pretending that i don’t live inside of it. does that make sense? is this thing on? i’m so tired lol

I am growing increasingly tired of the way certain sections of the MCYT fandom treats QPRs and non-romantic relationships as if they're inherently within Creator Boundaries. This is both ignorant of what QPRs are, and willfully avoids considering boundaries as anything beyond a useful checklist to bludgeon other fans with.

QPRs can look like friendships, friends with benefits, kink relationships, life partners, and a million other things. They can appear identical to romantic relationships from the outside. They can include sex. It's frustrating seeing QPRs morphed into Schrodinger's Platonic Relationship in fandom, where people write what is functionally just traditional romantic ship fic but still get to yell at other people for Breaking Creator Boundaries.

It feels like the assumption is "Romance might upset creators, but as long as it's platonic it's fine." As if a QPR fic where characters spend the whole time cuddling, or even a fic where they're assigned as family and are written to have a non-existent sibling relationship, wouldn't also be deeply weird & off-putting to creators. (I know many people don't approach creating fan content with creators in mind, but for those who evidently do it seems deeply odd to pretend that romance is taboo but cuddling/whump/etc are inherently unobjectionable.)

A fic where someone gets Overcome By Instincts and kidnaps another character to (platonically!!1!1!) force them to cuddle is way weirder than just having them kiss. Which is fine! It's fine to be weird! The problem is assuming that an ABO fic w/ the serial numbers filed off is inherently More Pure and palatable to creators just because it uses an & instead of a /, and in incorrectly redefining an entire complex relationship category to 'sexless off-brand romance that won't get me cancelled on Twitter'.
