An idea that’s been in my head;

In the werewolf fics I’ve been reading, there tends to be a “fated mate”, a goddess-given connection between you and your soulmate. The second you lay eyes on them, you’re in love. They’re perfect. The union is usually completed with a bite to the shoulder or neck, ‘marking’ each other so that other wolves know that they’re taken.

Another option, if you never find your fated mate, is to take a chosen mate. You pick somebody, and you two mark each other, creating a mate bond. It isn’t as strong as if you’d done it with your real mate, but it’s an option.

So I had an idea when exploring this concept.

The character is one of the leaders of a pack, a pair of chosen mates. They’re known for their strong bond and loyalty to each other despite their bond not being fated or goddess-given. Their pack is strong and well-known, a powerhouse.

One day, they’re fighting another pack, or maybe a small band of rogues.

The character stops an assassination attempt on their partner, tackling the assailant out of the way. They roll to a stop, pinning the assailant down…

And they realize that this assailant is their fated mate.

The JL can't understand what's wrong. They did their best effort to honor the king of dead and celebrate accordingly with the most strict protocol. Yet the king seems equally dull and annoyed. The JLD knows what's going on but they decided to say nothing in the hopes that this would teach the JL a lesson. Jason tried to explain the situation but none of the "adults" (aka Batman) listened to him so he decided to get his point across by getting into a fist fight with the king. One hour later they are kissing and Jason is explaining to the JL that ghost bond through fighting.

scenario #3 - the hero begs the villain for help

warning: intense distress, trauma, depictions of severe anxiety and despair, could be uncomfortable for some readers.

“Please…make it go away,” the hero sobbed, curled up into a pitiful heap at the villain’s feet, “Make it all go away.”

The cracks in their voice tore right through the villain’s black heartstrings.

The villain had never seen them so broken, so raw. It was unsettling, even for someone as accustomed to chaos as they were.

“Hero—

“I just want it to stop!” the hero screamed, their voice breaking as tears continued to stream down their cheeks. Their body convulsed with each sob, the weight of their suffering crushing them.

A pang of guilt gnawed at the villain’s conscience. They knew they could help, ease and rid of the horrors that tormented their dear hero. But they also knew the consequences.

Once done, there would be no turning back.

“I can’t— I can’t do it… I can’t live like this anymore…” The hero’s words were barely a mumbled whisper, choked out between their sobs as their tears continued to stream down like pouring rain.

The villain couldn’t bear it anymore.

With a heavy heart, the villain slowly crouched down to the hero’s shaking body. They gently lifted their chin out of their knees with a soft, delicate touch.

The hero gulped, their bloodshot gaze begging the villain as they stared into their eyes.

The villain sighed and said the one thing they would regret for the rest of their life.

“I’ll help you.”

The hero’s eyes immediately filled with relief.

The villain’s embodied the opposite.

The hero gasped out a shaking breath, a small smile taking on their face.

“Thank—“

”Don’t.”

The hero flinched back at the villain’s pained tone in confusion.

The villain could only let out a haunting chuckle.

“Please just…don’t.”

The hero slowly nodded as the villain stared into that familiar gaze they loved so dearly.

They loved them with their entire black heart.

They hoped in the future that they would never forgive themselves for this.

The villain slowly brought their hands to the side of the hero’s head and dug their fingers into their temples.

They watched as the hero began to thrash, terror filling their eyes as the hero’s nails dug deep into the villain’s wrists, trying to pry them off.

The villain’s heart broke more and more with each torturous cry that escaped the hero’s lips.

But they didn’t dare let go of them.

The hero’s breathing grew erratic, their body panicked as they heaved and stared back into the villain’s eyes, pleading for them to stop.

The villain wished they did.

Pain ripped a fresh hole in the villain's chest as they resisted against the hero’s struggles.

The villain's heart sank to their feet as they watched the thoughts behind their eyes begin to die out.

The hero’s grip on the villain’s wrists softened, their gaze bare, their breathing slowly going back to an even pace.

The villain let go.

They watched as the hero slowly looked up, their expression blank, devoid of anything at all.

The hero threw themselves into the villain.

The villain wrapped their arms tightly around the hero’s body as their hero nestled into their neck.

They had taken everything from their hero.

Their past. Their trauma. Their terror and their pain.

Their name. Their identity. The very essence that made them themselves.

The only thing they knew now was the villain.

The villain clutched their hero tighter, a dull permanent ache settling in their chest.

“What’s wrong?”

The villain hadn’t noticed the hero pulling back to brush a stray tear that escaped the villain’s eye.

They already wanted to undo everything.

“Nothing, Darling.”

They already wanted their hero back.

The hero sank into them again as the villain sank deeper and deeper into the dark sea of despair.

But they knew that was a wish that would never be granted.

The grand ballroom was alive with music and laughter as guests twirled across the dance floor, their elaborate masks adding an air of mystery to the festivities. Among them moved Hero and Villain, both drawn to the masquerade ball for their own reasons.

Hero, dressed in their finest attire navigated through the crowd, keeping a keen eye out for any signs of trouble. Meanwhile, Villain prowled the edges of the ballroom, their smirk hidden behind their mask as they observed the unsuspecting guests.

It was amidst the bustling crowd that Hero and Villain's paths unexpectedly crossed, their eyes meeting across the room. For a brief moment, time seemed to stand still as they took each other in, the tension palpable in the air.

"Villain," Hero whispered, barely audible over the music, recognizing the figure before them.

Villain raised an eyebrow, a sly smile playing at their lips beneath their mask. "Surprised to see me, Hero?" they replied, their voice dripping with amusement.

As they cautiously circled each other, Hero couldn't shake the feeling of unease at Villain's presence.

"Why are you here?" Hero asked, suspicion evident in their tone.

Villain shrugged casually, their gaze never leaving Hero's. "Just enjoying the party just like you," they replied, their tone nonchalant.

But Hero wasn't fooled by Villain's casual demeanor. They sensed something more beneath the surface, a mischievousness waiting to be unleashed.

Before they could delve deeper into conversation, the music shifted, and they were swept onto the dance floor in a whirl of movement and silk. As they danced, Hero and Villain found themselves caught up in the moment, the boundaries between them momentarily forgotten.

Getting Caught Kissing Your Rival

Pushing up on one another, knocking things out and being so loud that someone comes in to see what’s happening.

Security cameras 🎥 in a place neither of them thought there would be.

Kissing on a balcony‼️ and someone spotting them‼️‼️‼️

The aftermath of trying to straighten their hairs/clothes after someone knocks on the door. Both of them acting like nothing was happening.

When one of them claims to have a better smelling perfume/cologne and the other says they don’t, so now they’re both really close trying to smell the other and someone mistakes it as them getting intimate.🤭💗

When rivals who are secretly dating make a bet on how long they can make out with each other until they are caught.

Leaving love bite marks on each other that can be spotted easily. Other characters adding the pieces of the puzzle together.

Shadows… a character sees the shadows of both rivals getting a bit more comfortable with each other than usual…🫣

Getting caught when Character C and D see them through their curtain-less windows.

Thinking they are alone when suddenly it turns out someone else was there sleeping/reading/meditating quietly nearby and got confused at the noise.

Character A and B meeting at a party/somewhere where there is a crowd and then disappearing into a separate room to make out only to find another couple there.
