as you probably know, france is going through a period of violent protests. here is a probably better explained version of why it’s happening than whatever i can come up with.
to make it short, the French government forced a law to make the age of retirement at 64. since 2017, the macron government passed a lot of laws destined to break the social system that we have (even if flawed).
this retirement law is extremely unpopular, and had been forced by the 49.3 article (i think the US equivalent is executive order). this means that the assembly couldn’t vote it. the voting attempt to dissolve the assembly and kill the law in the egg didn’t work out. it missed 9 votes in favor of the dissolution.
people have been protesting outside for weeks. the government doesn’t care, and police brutality is rising exponentially. the prime minister thanked the police yesterday as a lot of protesters are put in custody for nothing. they put in custody innocent people, even tourist kids. people lost limbs too.
what is happening is borderline unconstitutional, and amnesty condemned the French police brutality.
what can we do? as the protesters outside sacrifice their work days to fight against the government, money is getting scarce.
to help the protesters and to help them continue to protest, strike funds have been created.
even a dollar will help them fight the government, so if you can, please donate or share. our lives are on the line.
Caisse de solidarité
this is the link to the strike funds. to donate, click on "faire un don en ligne"

then you can choose "PayPal" for international folks.

[Description: Video of someone who made an elaborate sign to protest. There’s the pictures of Al Sissi, Netanyahu and Biden. A mechanism makes three shoes move to slap the faces of the three men.]
The protest supporting Palestine in Paris on Saturday…
I wanna say that this man 100% took his child’s pink shoe to do that and I’m here for it.
P.S: I swear to god if any of you praise the French talent in protesting I’m blocking you. This man is 100% North African. He could have been black too but he obviously is not. Throwing shoe at aholes or people who annoy you is a Global South thing not a French thing.

The horrific shows of antisemitism come as French police have launched an investigation into death threats received by three Israeli athletes at the Olympic Games, according to Sky News.
Security concerns for the Israeli team remain a significant priority for Olympic organizers as the nation is weeks away from marking 10 months of war against Hamas.
Israeli athletes in Paris are being escorted to and from events by elite tactical units and have been given 24-hour protection, officials told Sky News.
Israel’s internal security service, Shin Bet, is also assisting with security for their countrymen and other Israeli diplomats attending the games.

Shin Bet is said to have “total support for the measures that are being taken by the French authorities,” a source told the outlet.

“This sends an important message to individuals and organizations attempting to threaten athletes,” the source added.
To ensure the safety of every country participating in the Olympics, France is deploying 35,000 officers each day, and 45,000 were deployed for the opening ceremonies.
France also receives help from 40 countries that have sent nearly 2,000 reinforcements.
On Thursday, Israel’s National Cyber Directorate said it discovered Iranian hackers were creating fake social media channels to publish personal information about members of the Israeli delegation at the Paris Olympics and were sending them threatening messages, according to Ynet News.
That same day, Israel’s foreign minister warned his French counterpart of a potential Iranian-backed plot to target Israeli athletes and tourists during the Games.
In response to the claims, the Iranian mission to the United Nations said in a statement that “Terrorist acts have no place in the principles of resistance groups; lies and deceit cannot switch the roles of the plaintiff and the accused.”
Israeli athletes have been the target of terrorist attacks during the Olympic Games in the past.
Eleven Israeli athletes and a German police officer were killed by Palestinian terrorists at the 1972 Munich Games.

At least 108 police injured and 291 held in May Day protests in cities across France
“On the edges of the march as it passed through Paris’s 11th arrondissement, police fired teargas and clashed with groups of young men dressed in black. Projectiles, bins and petrol bombs were thrown at police.
“Some Paris bus stops and shop fronts were smashed and graffitied with anti-police slogans. As the march reached its end point at Place de la Nation, police fired teargas and pushed back crowds as demonstrators threw projectiles.
“There was also unrest in Lyon, where several cars were set alight and the windows of some businesses were smashed. In Nantes in western France, bins were piled up and set alight in front of an administration building, shop windows were smashed and police fired teargas after protesters threw projectiles. A demonstrator in Nantes was treated by paramedics for a serious injury to his hand.
“In Marseille, a group of more than 100 demonstrators briefly occupied a luxury hotel near the old port before being pushed back by police. Teargas was also fired in Toulouse and Rennes.”
