Is the US government prioritising Israel over the safety and well-being of its own citizens?

The United States has recently been struck by two major hurricanes: Helene and Milton. Hurricane Helene caused widespread devastation across the southeastern states, with over 230 fatalities reported and damages estimated at up to $160 billion.

And on 10 October, 2024, Hurricane Milton hit Florida's west coast killing at least 12 people so far. The scale of their combined impact is affecting millions of people across multiple states, causing extensive flooding, widespread power outages, severe infrastructure damage and displacement.

On 26 September, 2024 - the same day that Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida Israel announced that it secured a $8.7 billion aid package from the US to support its ongoing military efforts.

This caused major backlash online with people taking to social media to voice their concerns about how taxpayer money is being allocated.

for sure -- there's lots of writing about the historical context of IQ in particular, as well as other measures of 'intelligence' (binet-simon, galton, etc); there's also a lot of writing that's on specific national and regional contexts. so i'm not pulling anything close to an exhaustive list here lol but these are some i found at least somewhat helpful. im presuming you're a french speaker but if not just disregard the ones in french lol

The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay Gould -- this is probably the no. 1 recommendation you will receive in english on this topic. it's not necessarily crucial if you've read other historical literature critiquing psychometry, but if not, it's a very solid text and is intended to be an easy entry point into the topic, so it can be a convenient place to start if you just need a leading-off point

his room is pretty cluttered, filled with stacks upon stacks of unfinished artwork, as he tends to lose motivation mid-project.

sometimes he'll take his canvas outside and paint the nature around him for hours at a time. It calms him down immensely.

I don't think he's big on killing peope without a reason. afterall, why put himself at unnecessary risk?

for the few that he does kill, i can imagine him making paintbrushes out of his victims hair lol. he truely turns tragedy into art!

he's very in his head, lost in his own thoughts. he doesn't really talk about his feelings all that often.

very honest guy. if something irks him, he'll tell you.

literally doesn't care for others opinions regarding him.

he's a perfectionist, a trait shaped by his parents' high expectations from when he was young. if his artwork doesn’t meet his standards, he’ll literally tear it up and restart without a second thought.

has a cabinet of neatly arranged blood viles, each complete with labels detailing things like the date it was obtained and the blood type.

very particular about how things are organised.

alongside his passion for art, he enjoys writing from time to time. definitely keeps a journal detailing mundane events in his day-to-day life.

speaking of writing, he has very pretty handwriting, and exclusivly writes in cursive.

i can also imagine him showing an interest in philosophy, specifically ideas surrounding egoism and other moral systems.

he almost exclusively paints landscapes — always empty, yet hauntingly beautiful. he'll only paint people if he truly understands them. humans are very complex, afterall.

smells like pinewood with some floral undertones; musky yet distinctly feminine.

his go to beverages are either strong black coffee or delicate tasting floral teas. no in-between.

honestly hes freezing cold ALL THE TIME. you start to think he might genuinely be cold blooded or something...

because of this fact, he really enjoys the warmth you provide.

please coax him out of his shell!! he doesnt realise it, but he really needs to talk about his feelings more often, instead of bottling them up.

when he's away on missions for extended periods, he'll send you handwritten letters filled with sweet words and sketches decorating the paper.

speaking of sketches, you are obviously his muse.

you're just so perfect?? half of his paintings are of you, along with the landscapes i talked about earlier.

will undoubtably get you to model for him.

please remind him to take care of himself — he has a habit of forgetting to eat, and will melt if you bring him small snacks.

often finds himself gazing at you from afar. god, your just so pretty! he's truly captivated by your beauty.

he always looks at you with this sense of adoration in his eyes. it makes you feel so special.

he cherishes quality time!

his go-to date is just simply strolling through a park at night.

thoroughly enjoys the comfortable sliences that the two of you share; just being in each other's company brings him pure happiness.

and if you also enjoy painting? its a match made in heaven.

overall, he's a very sweet guy!!

Little White Chapel, 1301 Las Vegas Blvd - est. 1954

The chapel was built by Arvid and Neva Barnhart in 1954 and operated by Neva’s mother Lorene King in its early years. Charolette Richards bought the chapel from the Barnharts in ‘81, expanded in the 90s, and operated the chapel until selling to Vegas Weddings in 2022.

The original chapel built in 1954 still exists with several additions on the property in the Richards years: The flower shop next door was demolished in the late 80s and replaced in ‘91 with a small office building and the “Tunnel of Love” drive-through. In the mid 90s they acquired the neighboring property at 1299 LVBS and replaced it in ‘99 with a new chapel, flower shop, and office building.

Charolette Richards proved to be a master promoter. Her drive-through earned the chapel its fame. Other efforts included “A Little Chapel in the Sky” a hot-air balloon chapel, and weddings in a hospital, on a roller coaster, at the finish line of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and in a helicopter (“Too noisy, not a bit romantic,” she said). She was dubbed “Wedding Queen of the West” by Las Vegas Woman magazine in ‘92. Richards owned the chapel until 2022, and died in 2023.

About the opening date.

The chapel has used the tagline “since ‘51” in recent years. Barnhart family states the chapel was built in 1954, a date supported by all of the earliest public records of the chapel. Whether the chapel was built from an existing house is unclear. Clark County’s Assessor record dates the chapel even later at ‘55.

Charolette Richards was ex-wife of Merle Richards who owned Little Church of the West until the 80s. Mr. and Mrs. Richards also opened Algiers’ Little Church. Mrs. Richards many interviews often blurred the details of her long history in the chapel business. Some of the reports have erroneously stated that Richards opened the chapel. In an interview with Vintage Las Vegas in 2021, she could not recall the date she bought the chapel. The Barnhart family stated the chapel was sold to Richards in ‘81.

I imagine that since Captain Marvel handles the more magical and larger threats to Fawcett (while also being a positive community figure), Billy Batson delves more into investigative journalism like a little goblin unafraid of of anything. His adult coworkers at Whiz Station either highly respect or try to get him fired/kicked out for being so good at his job compared to them. Don't even get me started on Muscles McGinnis being Billy's eyes on the inside of the criminal underworld, so he's kept up to date on things and catches people off guard when he knows something before them! :D I'm sorry this got long, I just love combining my favorite medias/fandoms!

I have! I think I've seen the whole thing at least twice! The dynamics between Shawn and Gus are just too good! I love the show!

Bell felt the heat rise in the room, a mix of alcohol and camaraderie wrapping around them. They leaned back and, with a quiet breath, removed their mask for the first time in what felt like ages.

The table fell silent.

Bell looked different—but in a good way. Healthier. The perpetual dark circles under their eyes had faded, and their hair was freshly cut, styled in a way that highlighted their refreshed appearance. For the first time since joining the team, Bell looked like someone who was starting to take control.

Mason was the first to react, offering a warm smile. “Looking good, Bell,” he said, his voice steady with understanding. They shared a unique bond—two people who had endured the horrors of brainwashing and survived.

Lazar’s grin was infectious. “Damn, Bell! Look at you!”

Woods clapped a firm hand on Bell’s shoulder, shaking them with pride. “About time you started looking like a badass again.”

Helen gave a soft smile, while Sims, who had known Bell from before, nodded in quiet approval. Even Hudson offered a rare, small nod—miraculous, considering his usual stoic demeanor.

Bell, trying to play it cool, smiled faintly as they sipped their drink, but their eyes darted quickly to Russell. His reaction was subtle, but to Bell, it was glaring. His hand tightened around his glass, jaw set just a little too firm, his aviators shielding his eyes but not his aura. Bell didn’t want to admit it, but they cared about what Russell thought—and they hated that they did.

“So, Bell,” Helen broke the silence, her voice laced with curiosity. “How are the memories coming along?”

Everyone leaned in, even Hudson. Especially Russell.

Bell hesitated, feeling Russell’s eyes boring into them. “Well, I’ve got some stuff,” they said carefully, “but it’s all scrambled. Better than nothing, I guess. I’ve been having these dreams… but they’re too realistic. Like, they connect to each other. It’s like putting together a puzzle.”

Bell paused before smiling lightly. “So, I got a journal. Thought I’d try to write it all down, piece it together into a timeline.”

Hudson raised an eyebrow. “A diary?”

Bell chuckled. “Yeah, a diary. It’s got Hello Kitty all over it. And a Hello Kitty lock. So don’t even think about trying to read it. I’ve got some embarrassing stuff in there.”

The table erupted in laughter, even Hudson letting out a small huff that could’ve been a laugh. But Russell? Russell’s expression darkened for just a moment before returning to his usual calm. His grip on his glass tightened. A journal? Bell had a journal—and they hadn’t told him?

Lazar leaned forward. “So, what do you remember?” he asked, his voice gentle. “Only what you’re comfortable sharing.”

The others nodded in agreement, curiosity glimmering in their eyes. But just as Bell opened their mouth to respond, Russell leaned in, cutting them off.

“Bell, how much have you had to drink?” he asked smoothly, his tone light but sharp enough to silence the table. “You’re looking a little sluggish. We should head out—you’ve got that appointment tomorrow. And I need your help with some files.”

Woods frowned. “C’mon, Adler, let the kid have some fun.”

But Russell was nothing if not convincing. He quickly spun a tale about Bell’s recovery, how alcohol might interfere with their progress, and how they couldn’t afford to take risks. Begrudgingly, the team agreed, bidding Bell goodnight as Russell ushered them out the door.

In the car, the air was suffocating. Bell shifted uncomfortably, Russell’s hand gripping their thigh with a possessive force that felt more like a leash than comfort. They reached for the window, desperate for air, but Russell stopped them with a sharp glance.

He leaned in close, cigarette between his lips, his mouth almost brushing theirs. Bell froze, torn between the urge to pull away and the forbidden temptation of stealing a kiss—or the cigarette. But Russell only smirked, fastening Bell’s seatbelt.

“Safety first, kid,” he murmured, exhaling smoke as he pulled away.

They drove in silence, Russell’s grip never loosening. When they arrived at his place, he guided Bell inside, his silence heavy and oppressive. Once the door shut behind them, he turned, removing his aviators and stepping close.

“So,” he said, voice low and controlled, “when were you going to tell me about the journal?”

Bell stiffened. “It’s my journal, Adler. I don’t have to tell you everything.”

“You do if it’s about your memories,” he snapped, his calm veneer cracking. “You think you can just keep that from me? After everything I’ve done for you?”

The argument escalated, Bell standing their ground as Russell’s frustration grew. Finally, he’d had enough.

In one swift motion, he grabbed Bell, his lips crashing against theirs in a forceful, possessive kiss. Bell froze, their mind reeling as Russell pulled back, his eyes blazing.

“The journal. Now,” he demanded, his voice leaving no room for refusal.

Bell stared at him, torn between defiance and the creeping realization that Russell wouldn’t stop until he got what he wanted.

I just got back to New York. Sun’s shining brighter than ever and I think we just got new neighbors. Anyway, John’s getting two surprises today. Me and….. hm. Haven’t really decided a name for her yet. Maybe Daisy? Seems pretty for a cute little puppy like her. And another surprise for John is this teddy bear I got back in New Jersey. I think I’m gonna start a collection haha

You have just unleashed a beast and a yapper, my apologies this might be a Lot (also my bad for spelling mistakes im dyslexic)

so this is Warriors to ME:

- I hc he came from a small village and that his native language isn’t Hyrulian Common (english), but instead portuguese. Proxi speaks for him in his game, and I hc the reason she does this is because War wasn’t really able to speak for himself since he was still learning the language and trying to get the Castletown (british) accent down so he could blend in better. A lot of pressure was put on him when he was marked hero (canon) and a war broke out because a sorceress fell in love with him (canon), so it makes sense to me that he’d do his best to blend in and fit the image of the perfect hero as best as he could

- I hc he has naturally dark brown curly hair that he dyes blond and freckles and a couple scars on his face that he covers to help keep that perfect image of the hero. There’s so much pressure on him to be beautiful since a war was started over someone being in love with him (which I think has a lot of parallels to Helen of Troy), so he feels the need to look like the ‘old heroes’. In his game the heroes who show up as statues are Young OOT Link and Skyward Sword Link (plus Wolf Link, but he is a wolf), and since Time is further down on the timeline than Sky I hc War’s era probably looks to HIM as like. A great magnificent hero, so War feels pressure to look like Time

- I know Jojo said it’s not canon in LU, but I hc Mask (Time) and Tune (Wind) WERE present in the war, with Mask being 10-12 and Tune being 17 (so Wind went through LU first and THEN the war). I hc the war lasted 3 years, and Warriors was 17-20 during it, making him roughly 27/28 now in present tense LU. Taking care of Mask and Tune were like the only things keeping him sane, because he HAD to take care of two kids younger than him and taking care of THEM forced him to take care of himself

- I hc he has a lot of issues with his identity because he’s “valued” only as someone he ISNT because he created this fake version of himself to survive. He had to become what was expected of him because so many people disliked him because they thought he should’ve just been handed over to Cia, so he let himself be molded into what he perceived people wanted. He lets himself be viewed as an idiot flirt with a perfect straight smile because he’s scared if hes anything else he wont be liked anymore

- I hc he’s actually a very quiet person. He literally doesn’t speak ever in his game. Other Links don’t either, but they at least have like dialogue options you can choose but Warriors doesn’t even have that. Proxi just speaks for him always. I hc he’s a very private person, because so much of his life has been public and he hasn’t had much that’s within his actual control. He likes being able to have his own things that are just for him

- I hc he keeps a journal that’s like every single thought he’s ever had. He needs it to keep his brain organized, but he’s also a huge history nerd to me so he writes down things he learns about the eras he visits

- I hc he has a lot of trust issues because of the turncoats (canon from his game), and it takes a lot for him to fully trust anyone. I agree with the widely popular hc that a lot of people have tried to kill him before by sending assassins, so to me he has some issues with food because he’s nervous about poisons. I hc he has oranges as a safe food because the peel keeps the fruit “protected”. hes aware oranges can technically still be poisoned but his brain like IRRATIONALLY depends on them because him convincing himself that oranges will always be safe is the only thing keeping him sane

- i hc he’s someone who’s love language used to be physical touch. a hug or a shoulder pat are easier to convey how he’s feeling with than words are, but the war and cia and everything he went through took that from him for a long time. hes slowly relearning touch is safe again, but its something hes not great with. he is not someone who can be touched without warning, especially if he doesn’t see the person coming. he’s very cuddly tho, when hes in the right mood for it and when he feels safe to do so

- i hc he has temperature regulation issues because volga burned him and you cannot sweat through burn scars, so he gets overheated pretty easily when its hot out (and so does wild). i also hc he’s someone who doesnt like the cold very much

- he’s a very sweet, gentle person to me who’s just been traumatized by everything he’s been through. he’s terrified to lose anyone else right in front of his eyes, and thats why he snapped at wild for being reckless. his fear just manifests as anger initially. to me he DOES get overwhelmed, but because hes a soldier and its been drilled into him if he stops to cry for every man that dies he’ll be soon to join them, he often pushes everything down and deals with it after the fact. so he can make it through a battle and through seeing his friend’s terribly injured, but the second he’s alone and its all over he just crashes (i wrote a whole post analyzing how he reacted to twilight being injured and how i believe he genuinely prepared himself for twilight to die so he would be able to cope with that grief so he could be there to help the others, and then when twi DIDNT die he was emotionally fucked up because he’d started grieving already and didnt know how to feel and was a bit off for a bit)

Here is a list of (some) ways to fix a draft or story in progress. I started it in the observation journal when I was struggling with some story changes.

In summary, these can be reduced to intensify; focus/tighten; swap/invert. But in a tight spot, specifics are often more useful. And making the list was also important, because it reassured me I knew all these techniques, and had used them before, and should calm down.

List 10 terrible endings (adapted from a Helen Marshall exercise), or just 20 endings. Or 100…

Re-outline it

Map it onto another story (I like to quick-outline fairy tales until one resonates, and then identify the parts to strengthen)

Fill it out as a synopsis questionnaire (I used to use Sue Dennard’s 1-page synopsis to trap story ideas)

Ask — what is the story behind the story?

Change the place

Change the era

Genderflip main character

Genderflip everyone

Change the genre

Change the adjectives

Describe the story in one emotion, & align/adjust

Do the same for each scene/section (see also three moods)

Hope you don't mind me info dumping my thoughts after watching newsreader and also reading some of your thoughts (I am so hyper focused on this show lol)

If Dale is neurodiverse, what sort of neurodiversity do you think he has? Is he a bit on the spectrum or ADHD? But then it would man that he would mask himself quite well, he's just a bit awkward.

Anna was very beautiful this season.

I never understood why Lindsay was so obsessed with Dale? It was very creepy

I know I shouldn't but I really want to diagnose Dale, like Helen is BPD, but I feel like Dale had mental health issues, but it could also be just him being repressive.

I am going to imagine that post s3 he gets therapy and gets together with Helen. He accepts he is bi too.

I have SO many thoughts when it comes to Dale being on the spectrum! A lot of it is my ‘neurospicy’ detector going off when I watch him, but joking aside, I think I see him as a neurodivergent character because he displays a lot of traits that are fairly common for people on the spectrum.

Disclaimer, I come from a family full of neurodivergent people, some with a diagnosis, some without, many with…‘characteristics’—myself included. I also study/work in a field that has me spending a lot of hours every day with people on various versions of this infamous spectrum, so while I am joking about having a neurospicy ‘detector,’ I am sensitive to neurodivergence, and often recognize it (and I’m usually right when I do).

Dale is socially awkward. Yes, I know, it sounds like a cliché, but it is an actual fact that social interactions are often hard when you’re neurodivergent. You’re just…slightly off, in a lot of situations. Dale takes things literally. He rehearses how he’s going to deliver lines, way beyond how he will be on camera, but with people too. The mirror thing he does? I’ve done it, and I know a lot of people on the spectrum do it, it’s a real thing.

Also, he hyperfixates. He’s got special interests—in this case, newsreading and journalism (since he was a very young child), to the point of it becoming his entire identity. He also likes rules, and following those rules, and fitting in boxes 🥲

You’ve mentioned masking, which is one of the main things neurodivergent people do, in an attempt to fit in with people and society. Very often, when you’re neurodivergent, the world around you makes you understand at a very young age that any odd behavior/responses you have are not acceptable; you’re often rejected/mocked for being awkward in social settings. So you learn to mask, without realizing you’re doing it. It’s a coping mechanism. Everyone does it to some extent, but autistic people do it on a whole different level—and it’s exhausting.  

(I’m continuing the rest of this TED Talk under a read more because I need to talk about season 3, so, SPOILERS!!)

Dale’s entire arc from season 1 to 3 is a form of masking. He says it himself in the finale “You would hate the real me, everybody did. So I changed him, and now, you hate him even more!”

He’s obsessed over his image, about how people view him, about needing to appear normal, may it be in his masculinity, in his sexuality, in everything that makes him HIM. So many of those horrible comments he listens to say something along the line of “he’s weird, he’s off-putting, there’s something stilted about him.” The harder he tries, the less “normal” he appears, and it makes him absolutely spiral.

Dale hitting himself in that heartbreaking scene in 3.06? To me it’s not just a physical representation of his self-loathing.

I’m no expert so I don’t want to extend too much on that and risk saying the wrong thing, but self-harm most definitely is a thing autistic people may do, especially when they experience meltdowns, which is when someone is so overwhelmed by a situation that they lose control of their behavior. To be honest, the whole first half of episode 3.06 is Dale’s inevitable meltdown from everything he’s put himself through this season—and everything that was done to him by ‘exterior forces’ (Lindsay on top of the list).

So to link back to another one of your point, Dale most definitely has mental health issues, too, due in part to his past traumas, the abuse he was suffering from at work, and the fact that he’s a neurodivergent (bisexual) human living in a neurotypical society. In a newsroom of all places! 💀
