DP X DC WRITING PROMPT #17
(I had this idea when I learned that there are some people who give out their phone numbers for people to give to someone who is harassing them/giving creepy vibes/or just plain not interested.
Btw, if you wanna add a ship between Danny and any of the mentioned captured vigilantes, go right on ahead! If you're not a fan of ships, that's fine too. Later!)
Who You Gonna Call?
After the Anti-Ecto Acts were dismantled and the townwide internet/communications blackout is dismantled, Danny's social media for his alter ego blows up. He won't lie either, he loves the mostly positive attention whereas before he'd only been met with fear and hatred.
It isn't until he makes a post where he jokingly mentions the Fenton patented Anti-Creep Stick™ (yes it actually works on ghosts) that he gets loads of comments on how many wish it would work on human creeps giving unwanted attention (it actually does because it's literally just a baseball bat covered in anti-ghost paint, but meh) or really just have Danny himself scare away the creeps because of the whole "being a ghost" thing. Naturally, this sets off Danny's protection obsession and he decides to do something about it.
With a little help from Technus, Danny learns to manipulate and travel through phone connections and then releases a separate phone number for people to use/give away if they're stuck in an uncomfortable situation.
Here's the funny part tho.
Red Hood somehow uses the number kinda as a joke to, well, sic Phantom on the Joker while him, Nightwing, and Red Robin are tied up for another one of the clown's schemes. It works a little too well though. Turns out the Joker is wanted in the Infinite Realms for continued interference on peaceful relations between said Realms and the Living World, i.e. - terrorism. It's then discovered that Joker is in fact considered liminal by ghost standards and therefore falls under Danny, the Ghost King's, jurisdiction.
So basically, Jason calls Phantom's Anti-Creep number as a joke, Phantom actually shows up via phone connection, and all three of them wind up witnessing firsthand the Joker being dragged into a glowing green, concerningly Pit-like portal, bound in chains + kicking and screaming. Phantom even stops long enough to untie them, shake hands with a shocked Red Hood, thanks him for his help, and then leaves like it never happened.
Now. How the hell are they going to explain this to Batman?
This idea has probably already been thought of before but I haven't seen it. If someone has, please direct me to it. 👀

Danny Phantom Writing Prompt: The Lack of a Hero Complex
Once Danny publicly shames Vlad into returning the status quo of Amity Park, Danny also stops ghost fighting.
The Human Trio and Vlad confront Danny about his lack of action. The Human Trio finally gets a taste of the sleep deprivation Danny experienced when he didn't want to burden them from their schedules while the property damage continued to tarnish Vlad's public reputation. Danny just laughs.
Sam, completely livid at the lack of reaction: Who’s going to protect the town, Danny?
Danny gets up from the couch and looks directly into Vlad's eyes: Yeah, Vlad, how do you plan on protecting your town?
Danny lightly chuckles while he goes down to the lab where the Fenton Parents were working. He was just gonna play on the family computer while his Dad would boast about their latest idea.
The human trio:
Tumblr media
Vlad:
Tumblr media
When the ghosts who come to directly harass Danny, he decides he just needs to be completely honest with each of them.
Danny: Listen, I'll admit I kinda had fun with the bantering, but I want to focus on better things now. I was never really interested in any of you.
The Ghosts:
Tumblr media
The results?
Vlad has to set up legit ghost detectors all over the city and properly hire the Fentons for protection. Vlad hoped that the hiring would gain him favor from Maddie, but he finally got to see how she really was compared to his idealized version. Their constant public damages made Vlad's reputation even more tarnished, and their lack of change despite him personally talking to them about it makes him grow equal resentment towards both of them. It gets to the point where Vlad just sets up the same ecto repellent he uses to keep ghosts from escaping his portal back in Winsconsin. The extra paperwork he has to do now governing is not worth the mess he caused. Political power wasn't as worth it as he thought it would be.
The Human Trio gave Danny the cold shoulder for a while, but that just gave him some well needed alone time to raise his grades. He even finally got to join the astronomy club like he planned before the portal accident. They were a very chill group and welcomed him to sit with them at lunch, so he was never alone. Dash tried to start their usual routine, but that was immediately hauled by the club leader.
Dash wasn't clever enough to figure out how to respond to being called 'Pussy Lips' by a girl, so he just kinda sulked away.
Dash will say the occasional snarky comment, but he never bring himself to get too close to Danny after a club member told Danny to tell Dash and the other football players they could take turns sucking him off after their club meeting. Dash just wasn't clever enough to get things back to normal.
Though the club members weren't A-listers, they weren't at the bottom, so Danny social life became better.
The Human Trio tried to continue on like before, but they were soon caught ghost hunting by the Fentons. There was no punishment, just overactive excitement, seeing they were finally interested in Ghost Hunting. Now, having to join the Fentons whenever there was a ghost detected, the fun of it is zapped away for them, making the tiredness not worth it anymore. The three eventually apologized to Danny, which he accepts, and the group finally accepts the new changes.
There are many things that can upset a ghost, but the universal act that can anger any core is being ignored. Even with the ecto repellent, the stronger ghosts manage to get through and try to get Danny's attention. The boy always just texts Vlad about how he sucks at his job and to take care of the disruption. The ghost eventually pick up that their violent outburst aren't working, so it gets to the point that they try to get his attention another way.
They tried to coax him with things they believed he liked. It is comparable to how Hyper Cat-lovers try to get a shy cat to love them.
Lunch Lady offers him a freshly made meal when he's low on money one day. He thanks her but says he had a big breakfast.
Ember tries to act like their best friends in front of the A-listers, so Danny will become more popular at school. He greets her but continues on his stroll like she was a typical citizen.
Technus offers to give Danny the answer key to all the tests for his classes, but he denies this offer instantly. He'll never cheat on a test ever again.
It got to the point that Skulker said he would drop the promise of getting Danny's pelt if he just let him see his ghostly form. Creeped out, Danny just backed away. He was thankful Valerie was close by.
Box Ghost actually got somewhere when he offered a three-dimensional solar system model. It was in a box he had, so Box Ghost offered it to Danny. He accepted it as the one in the club was showing its age.
This seemed to make these random ghost visits even more frequent. Danny guessed Box Ghost bragged about his 'accomplishment'.
Basically, the ghosts' obsession to defeat Danny changes to them wanting his attention. Vlad’s obsession becomes solely focused on Danny as he just finds Maddie and Jack so annoying now. Like, Vlad just wants to get custody of Danny and get the hell out of Amity Park. He doesn't even want to kill the Fentons now out of fear that they will become ghosts.
After the Ember incident, the A-listers kept trying to buddy up to him. However, Danny learned how they really were, so he just treated them the way he treated ghosts. Now, it seemed they were just as desperate.
Danny will turn into Phantom only when it's necessary, that or he's in the mood to fly. The downside to this change is that whenever he does transform, he always has an entourage of attention-starved ghosts following behind him. He can't even imagine how things would be if he went to the Ghost Zone.
Additions:
For those who want to know the members of the astronomy club-
For those who want to see the club room-

Justice League finding out about ghost obsessions and half of them think dannys is protecting while the other half thinks it's space.
It's rude to ask about it specifically, so they leave it be until one day someone new learns about it and immediately asks.
Even though he grimaces at the question he goes to answer.
"Well, it's a bit embarrassing but mine is freedom."
And the rest of the members are vibrating in their seat, pushing the need down to ask more question because what does he mean?

Do you know how we’ve all collectively decided as a fandom that ghosts have obsessions? Yeah well what do you guys think Cujo's is?
I mean, we know that he was probably a guard dog, but also we know that he has the ability to shapeshift from a puppy to the literal behemoth of a dog and that has to mean something, right?
Is his obsession being a good boy like he was when he was a puppy and being a Fuck You guard dog was the best way he was taught to do that?
Does he have anyone to tell him? He is a good boy now in the afterlife? Is Danny the only one who tells him he’s a good boy? Does he have a job in the ghost zone that allows him to fulfill his obsession of being a good boy?
Maybe he has two obsessions and one is being a good boy like when he was a puppy, and one is protecting stuff like how he did when he was a guard dog?
I am just entering a rabbit hole about the implications of Cujo being a ghost with an obsession.

Half thought out hot take:
It'd make more sense for Danny to have a space obsession when you consider his power set.
Cryokinesis? It's damn freezing out in space ofc he's gonna have ice powers!
Wail? Ironically enough there is no sound in space because there's no oxygen so all the sound gets 'eaten up' (I think) but each star and planet have their own sounds regardless so why wouldn't he be able to scream really loudly?
Dan? Honestly I feel like there would potentially be issues with combining two opposite cores (if you went with Vlad having a heat/fire core) unless, however, they were somehow harmonious like say.....a star thriving in deep space? And stars make a lot of noise which would fit with Dan learning his Ghostly Wail.
Pyrokinesis? Again, going back to the fact that stars have high temperatures and planets (like earth) have molten cores!
Photokinesis? It's light!!!! Literally all natural light comes from stars n such in space!!!! .....or bioluminesent animals but that's more of glowy than light. Not to mention when he pulled all light into him and made the surrounding pitch black, like????
Though there are a few that I just dont know enough about/don't know how they'd fit such as Repulsion. And I'm not putting in the base set all/most ghosts seem to have!
Also, while his electricity-based powers might not support this I do think those are generated from How He Died, yknow?

Liminals and Ghost Obsessions
I have a quick question aimed at the rest of the Phandom.
(For context, I personally believe that liminals should have pseudo-obsessions. They can change on a yearly or even monthly bases unlike true ghost obsessions.)
What would Sam's obsession be? (Preservation of Nature?)
How about Tucker? (Technology? Advancements? Fun?)
Jazz? (Helping people? Psychology? Psycho-analyzing?)
Even Valerie? (most likely ghost hunting, or maybe vengeance?)
Clearly, Maddie and Jack would be obsessed with ghost hunting.
Wes, of course, is obsessed with the truth.
What would the liminals of Amity Park be obsessed with? If pseudo-obsessions shift and change over time because liminals aren't yet dead, then what are all the possible ones for these characters? How can pseudo-obsessions be a mark of growing up and maturing?
Just, pseudo-obsessions.

✨Rewriting the Daniel Masters AU ✨
(a little less sleep deprived this time, here's the og sleep deprived post )
So the whole premise of this AU is that Vlad's main obsession was getting revenge on jack (in the og post I said it was family but I'm changing it a bit here) and a ghost's main job is to fulfill their obsession right? That's how they grow stronger, that's how they survive and even half ghosts are no different.
But let's just say that being half ghost does make your obsession have a little less control over you, which is why Vlad isn't straight up trying to kill Jack from the get go.
So Vlad just kidnaps toddler Danny
His whole plan was to kidnap Danny, turn hik into a halfa too and then raise him as his son and bask in Jack's sorrow– the only problem is that his portal isn't complete yet.
It takes exactly one year to complete the portal. By the end of it, Vlad and Danny have bonded a lot, with a lot of tired dad and chaos badger shenanigans to show for it. (And unbeknownst to him, his obsession slowly shifts from revenge to family)
And Vlad finds he can't go through with his plan anymore. Maybe it's because he genuinely cares for Danny. Maybe because he's learned to love Danny like a son. Maybe it's because he remembers what it was like when he was slowly inching towards death in a hospital ward.
Whatever the reason, he can't do it.
And so he doesn't.
Life moves on, Vlad and Danny grow together until Daniel's 14th birthday, when he finds a secret room in his basement and it all comes crashing down.
Turns out, Vlad never fully disabled the portal.

Danny's really upset bc Protection Ghost Obsession Brain goes brrrr. and by brrr I mean "does not relate to Danny's emotional stance on the individual". As in if someone is in danger/being hurt and they do not pose an immediate threat to him, even if they have in the past and are literally his enemy, obsession brain still says Protecc. Danny is incensed.
from an outside perspective it kind of comes off as a weird possessive "only I'm allowed to fight/beat them up" thing, but in actuality Danny is screaming internally in disdain at himself for every time he takes a hit for Technus. It's like a total autopilot thing as his Obsession aggressively jerks him out of the driver's seat.
Now unfortunately when it comes to Vlad, that's where it gets more complicated, bc Obsession says Protecc and it upsets Danny, but what upsets him even more is that part of him agrees with his monkey brain. "No no one else is allowed to try and kill him bc that's my awful halfa uncle and we're the only two of our kind. Yes I hate his guts. No I would never let him get vivisected. Yes I would gladly punch him through a wall. No he is not allowed to die"
It's a nightmare and Danny just wants to RestTM

A while ago, I posed the question ‘Where do fans stand on Danny having an obsession?’  With different answers all around.
Some said they don’t like the idea that Danny has an obsession because it takes away his agency and makes his choices less meaningful if he’s forced to do what he does.
Some said they loved Danny with an obsession because that can lead to angst potential.
Others said it depended on the story.
What about all of the above?
Danny seems to be slacking off in ghost hunting lately, at first it was just, “I haven't gotten a full night’s sleep in a while, let me take a break.” But that was quite a few days ago and his sleep schedule has gotten back on track so there’s no excuse for him to be cutting patrolling short tonight, or for him to ignore what could possibly be a villainous plot going on in town, Sam insists!
Tucker points out that said villainous plot is just a new hot dog shop opening up in town which she waves off.  She insists Danny could be doing more.
Danny replies that if his ghost sense goes off, he’ll do his job, but it’s nice to take a few days off.
Sam leaves Danny and Tucker to play games while she hops on her scooter to patrol the city by herself. As she zooms through the streets she mutters “I wish the one with actual superpowers on this team was more obsessed with with doing this job than me.”
When the friends meet up the next day, Danny is much more vigilant.  Sam’s pleased although Tucker is bummed that Danny doesn’t want to see a new movie after school in favor of patrolling the city.
For a little while, everything is good.  Danny is taking his job as a hero seriously, ghosts are getting beaten and taken back to the ghost zone, crime is noticeably going down in Amity.
Tucker points out to his friend that he might want to do something about those bruises on his face and Danny waves him off.  Hazards of the job. Sometimes the ghosts get a few good shots in.  He’ll just say it was Dash, if anyone asks.
By next week, Danny was noticeably skipping more classes than usual.  His excuse being ‘ghost fighting’ and Sam warns that he should be more careful.  Even his clueless parents are going to notice.
Later that night, Sam’s house gets a call from Jazz.  She thinks she knows what the conversation is going to be about and prepares some excuses on Danny’s behalf, but is thrown off when she confronts her about not seeing Danny since Yesterday.”
“He staggered home at 2:00 AM last night, looking like he got run over by a truck! me, mom and dad tried to talk to him but he looked so exhausted, the only thing we could think to do was send him to bed, thinking we would talk again in the morning but he was gone when we woke up.  We haven’t seen him since then! Sam, what is going on?!” Jazz cries.
At that moment Danny flies in through her window, ectoplasm seeping through an an enormous gash on his abdomen.
“Can I get a patchwork?”, he mutters, groggily. Sam hangs up the phone in shock.
She goes to work, stitching up his wounds.  Danny murmurs some explanation of why it’s not that bad and how he’ll just need a minute before he’s ready to keep going, as his eyes droop and head nods in his exhaustion.  She tells him that he can just take a nap here until he’s well enough to go home but he disappears the instant she’s finished.

Another Danny Phantom Prompt!!!
Picture this, Danny is hanging out with Sam and Tucker when all the sudden he yelps in pain and falls to the ground holding his side. Danny quickly transformers into his ghost form and reaches out to his keep wondering what's happening, and when his keep yells at him to come to it because these weird people in hazmat suits are attacking it.
Danny goes absolutely FARRELL.
Fangs, pointed ears, eyes fully green, claws and all. He's so enraged he doesn't even notice he made a portal by himself, he just goes through it and floats in front of his keep (which is pariah's castle but looks more like an observatory with stars all over the walls and surrounding his keep) absolutely seething.
He gave his parents chance after chance after chance but this this was to far. No more nice ghost king. Summoning the crown and ring + his cloak and armor Danny goes absolutely ferrell on his parents because they dare hurt his keep, HIS KEEP!! something that ever ghost knew not to attack because a ghosts keep was an extension of themselves.
And Jack and Maddie were absolutely terrified of Phantom for the first time.

assuming that ghosts that cannot fulfill or satiate their obsessions are slowly eaten apart by madness, and further assuming that danny phantom’s obsession is to help and protect people … don’t you think the death of danny’s family & friends could have the potential to drive him fully and unequivocally insane? and i don’t mean the aware-of-actions-evil dan had going on, i mean a wailing husk of a ghost, like a feral cat succumbing to rabies.
just a thought!

DP - Obsessions as a Result of Choice
A while ago, I read someone's perspective on ghostly Obsessions. They commented that they believed that it cheapened their decisions. Making them not their own & I actually think it's the exact opposite.
It felt like the individual seemed to believe that Obsessions were arbitrary & not based on a ghost's own free will. My thoughts are different; their Obsessions are as thus specifically due to their personal decision making. And, in fact, are a direct result of it.
Much like how you form habits by doing the same thing consistently, by your own choice, you form Obsessions partly based off your own personal decisions. Your ideals. Your hobbies. Or the thing you wanted most as you died & it isn't just one thing that influences the creation of such an Obsession.
For Ember. She died just when she got her big break & she died believing that no one would remember her name. Thus, she became Obsessed with becoming famous & being remembered, specifically via her music. Which is very obviously something she loved in life.
In a lot of ways, a ghost's Obsession is the direct consequence of their choices & actions. An acknowledgement of them even.
Now, I'm not about to tell anyone what to think or do or anything like that.
This is more me just giving my perspective on things.

as much as i've seen people talk about vlad plasmius, it surprises me that no one has come to the same conclusion as i that his obsession is actually 'things he cannot get'
like, think about it. what does he want? maddie, danny and the packers. all of which are beyond his reach. maddie is married and thoroughly uninterested in divorce. danny has made his own feelings clear on numerous occasions, and they definitively state that the packers are one of the few things vlad cannot buy. and yet he is obsessed with all three. he decorates his mansions in packers colours, he owns many of their shirts and a signed ball if i'm remembering correctly. though the show doesn't focus on it he is clearly immensely interested in them, as much as any super fan. if not more. and as for danny and maddie, well we all know how he feels about that.
i mean, it seems kinda obvious to me but i guess the packers thing is easy to forget about cause the show doesn't linger on it, but it's definitely there.

Honestly I can’t decide if I like the idea of Danny’s obsession being protection or space better.
Because on one hand the protection makes perfect sense. Danny seems to just have this drive inside of him that pushes him to want to protect and help people no matter what. Also the angst potential is wonderful. No matter how much Danny wants to stop heroism or how much its hurting him, he physically cant. His body is hardwired to protect and defend people and will scream at him until he does, meaning he can never give this up and retire.
But on the other hand space is just so FUN. You’ve got this kid who is literally one of the most powerful people on the planet, but the moment someone mentions that there’s a special eclipse that night he is GONE, already rambling on about this eclipse and the moon and space in general. He spends hours putting glow in the dark stars in the position of the actual stars on his ceiling. When he has a bad day his first instinct is to go to the planetarium or, hell, just go ghost and fly up to space himself. This also means that the sense of duty and protection he feels for his home are just,,, completely natural. THATS just Danny. He wants to protect the place where he lives and the people who live there. There’s no force driving him to do it and he can stop at any time, he just doesnt want to because he genuinely wants to help people.
Anyways im not that deep in the phandom yet (really just started getting into it) but I wanted to share my thoughts on (from what ive seen) Danny’s two most popular obsessions that ppl give him :)

An interesting thing I’ve noticed about the difference between Fanon!Danny and Canon!Danny is, well… Obsession
Obsessions aren’t canon, but are REALLY popular fanon—as such, they’re both really flexible and very rigid. Danny, for instance, usually has Protection as his Obsession. He HAS to protect people, to save them—he MUST be the hero.
My personal feelings and headcanons on Obsessions aside, there’s kind of… a difference, here, in what I’d say Canon!Danny’s Obsession would be.
See, while we do see Danny struggle in his hero role, learning how to use his powers and Do Good, we don’t… really see him be Obsessed with it. He doesn’t particularly scheme ways to be a hero, he doesn’t go especially out of his way to find trouble—he does do patrols, if I remember correctly, but that wasn’t really shown until later in the show, I think? He certainly doesn’t START that way. And sure, he lets other things suffer to do his heroic work, but in that situation—where he’s almost literally the only one who CAN? Realistically, what choice does he have?
But you know, we DO see him scheme and go out of his way for one particular thing.
Being an (almost) average teen.
Throughout the series, we see Danny struggle not so much in being a hero, but being a normal kid. He struggles, sure, with balancing the hero act—but he doesn’t really start out wanting to be a hero. Even when he uses his powers for cool things, they’re usually just things I think we’d all do, if we had said powers. And they’re often one-offs—if I could physically be in a video game instead of playing it normal, I really don’t think you’d ever see me play any other way. And while he does eventually do patrols, if I remember correctly, it isn’t until later. Right from the start, he’s more worried about being seen as a freak than anything else. He does heroic acts, sure, and he even chooses to do them, which I find far more compelling than ‘because his ghost half has to’. But at the end of the day, he just wants to be Danny.
He adjusts to his new self, sure, but it’s kind of slow. He objects to his powers fairly often. He’ll definitely help, don’t get me wrong—he’s still the Danny we all know and love! Average kid or not, he still does have those heroic traits, and will help out the town, even when the entire town is against him. But, if I’m remembering the show correctly, his problem has never really been accepting that he’s NOT a hero, that he’s just a teenager—it’s often been accepting that he IS one, regardless of everything else.
He’s half a ghost, and he’s half a boy. In Spectra’s paraphrased words, “A creepy kid with creepy powers.”
Heck, even with as useful as his powers ARE, he has tried to get rid of them MULTIPLE TIMES.
Fanon!Danny’s Obsession is usually Protection. Sometimes Space, or Love, or Family, or just Being A Hero… but usually? Protection.
Canon!Danny’s Obsession? Normalcy.
He just wants to be a kid.
