His face was also dotted in many freckles that extended down his neck, past his shoulder and arms. He rolled his emerald green eyes as he crossed his arms across his chest.”

Finally, swinging first his arms over the window pane, then his legs, Peter tucked and rolled inside the lavish room. It was adorned with golden accents, royal purple sheets, and heavily ornamented furniture. Standing quickly, the blonde pirate dusted off his hands and took stock.

“Right….” He looked around the room, observing his surroundings. “….Vanity, check. Wardrobe, check…..hm?” Peter knelt down on one knee and looked underneath the bed. A few sheets were preemptively tied together, as if the person this room belonged to had been planning an escape. “Ah, well that makes my job easy…..”

The Golden Pirate pulled out the makeshift rope, pulling the sheets taut as he tested the integrity of the tied ends. “….Though, whoever made this needs a few tips on tying knots….” Peter reinforced the sheets in his own sailor knots, satisfied that they would hold his weight. Then, he draped the rope of sheets over the bottom of the window, outside the room as they billowed down to a foot above the ground. Tying the other end tightly to the foot of the heavy bed, he secured his exit and got to work scavenging the room for loot.

Way of speaking: British accent, speaks like a royal.

Physical characteristics (posture, gestures, attitude): very dynamic, perpetually pissed off, carries himself like a prince not because he wants to, but because that’s what he had to do in the castle.

Hobbies: Ballroom Dancing, writing.

Abilities/Talents/Powers: Bilingual (English and French), somehow being both the luckiest and unluckiest man alive.

So with the release of Broken by Daylight I just HAD to draw my favourite boy.

This series is my guilty pleasure and one that my book sister and i oceans apart had bonded over. We love love LOVE it!!! I was so jealous that she is an ARC reader. And I did not even know until the other day that the authors follow me on Instagram….I may have freaked out, and cried. 🙈

I plan to draw the rest of the briar crew. It is criminal how little fanart there is of the series 😩

also i think that justifying "magic systems" by claiming that they make it easier to avoid committing a faux pas in your own story, thus avoiding breaking the suspension of disbelief, simply reveals that there's too much emphasis being placed on mechanics rather than craft, and that the "magic system" is probably disjointed from theme and character and you're spilling all kinds of ink just trying and trying to argue for the existence of this worldbuilding on its own merits, because you're not using it to support character or conflict or setting or plot and vice versa. all this concern over avoiding deus ex machina is a nonissue because that is not the result of bad worldbuilding, it is the result of bad storycraft

also nothing breaks my suspension of disbelief faster than having a character infodump the carefully outlined rulebook of this rpg i am suddenly a part of in the middle of your high fantasy novel

Something that really infuriates me is people on Goodreads who define Tolkien's books as "too heavy", "too descriptive", "too prolix"... and then you discover that they give five stars to Sarah J Maas' books.

Like, listen. You're free to enjoy your romance content (cause that's what it is, romance), it's totally valid, but leave Fantasy alone. They're two totally different reading levels.

Honestly it saddens me a bit that writing and reading skills have become so simplified and superficial that now LOTR seems unapproachable. To supposedly fantasy readers.

(This is not meant as hate, but since some of y'all like to sh1t on Tolkien and other masters... might as well defend them.)

Okay so Six of Crows was good. It caught me by my throat and I loved it instantly. I loved being back in the Grishaverse and I loved group of ragtag characters.

Leigh’s writing was really good for this duology. And I got attached to some characters more than others (cough Kaz and Matthias cough) and the first book was really fun and great and I loved it.

No spoilers but a while star got knocked off of Crooked Kingdom just because of a certain emotional traumatic moment that made me cry and feel really sad and depressed.

Overall- I really did enjoy this duology and I can see how the author’s writing got better after the original trilogy and how much she grew.

I’m on the fence about King of Scars and Rule of Wolves- I don’t even own them, but I never liked Nikolai or Zoya so I’m not like super excited to read them.

Time to grab the boys in the boat, Peter and Benjamin from Peter Hart. Nothing explicit here, but this is right after they had sex so they’re a bit winded 😂✨

“I love you too….Peter…” Benjamin’s chest rose and fell deeply as he labored for breath. Gulping down his rasping gasps, he finished his thought: “I—I….! I’m yours forever…..!”

Peter smiled warmly and sincerely at the comment, once more making out with his equally tired partner as he whispered to his lover’s lips: “You’re right. You’re absolutely right.” He kissed Benjamin’s mouth. “And I am yours forevermore.”

Benjamin’s lips trembled as he let his tears fall down his cheeks, cupping his hands over the captain’s jaw. He winced, feeling that Peter’s cheeks were also wet, flowing in steady lines down to his stubbled chin. As they continued to kiss each other slowly, they submitted to their feelings and let the tears flow down passionately. For their love, albeit raw and unfettered, was pure and true.
