Have you ever seen those videos where the college grads are showing off a million stoles and cords and medals? That’s Bobby.
He was involved with the following organizations and activities per the UW yearbook his senior year:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Phi Gamma Delta aka FIJI
A social fraternity whose members attend university with the foremost goal of receiving an education, and that Phi Gamma Delta is a fraternity that promotes scholastic achievement amongst its members. Its mission statement lists five core values for its members: friendship, knowledge, service, morality, and excellence.
Oval Club
The Oval Club, formed in 1907, was an organization affiliated with the University of Washington. Its purpose was to promote student unity and cooperation, develop cultural leaders and preserve traditions of the University of Washington.
Big “W” Club (for Crew)
The Big W Club is a special organization that helps University of Washington letter-winners stay connected to their alma mater. Big W Club members retain the spirit and pride of being a Husky by taking part in exclusive gatherings and events, like hanging out at informal happy hours or reconnecting at the biannual Hall of Fame induction or team reunions. Membership is automatic when you receive your first varsity letter.
Tumblr media
Minor “W” Club (for Fencing)
Membership in the Minor "W" Club is dependent upon participation in some University minor sport. Men who participate in wrestling, swim-ming, golf, fencing, cross-country, ice-hockey and rifle are awarded the small "Circle W."
Tumblr media
Beta Gamma Sigma (Sr. Yr. - Treasurer)
An International Honor Society Serving Business Programs. Its mission is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and professional excellence in the practice of business. Membership in this honor society is by invitation only and is very prestigious as BGS invites only the upper 10% of the upperclassman undergraduate classes. An invitation to become a member in BGS is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive.
Alpha Kappa Psi
A business fraternity with the goal to bring together students who share an interest in business and provide them with opportunities to learn and grow through professional development, philanthropy, social events, and more.
Rho Sigma Chi
A social fraternity that believes a principle-driven lifestyle should be paramount in an individual’s lifelong quest to achieve progressive development, and that the world has a great need for ethical leaders whose core principles were based on the possession of remarkable character. Their goal is to enhance the leadership abilities of men by refining their character through the framework of Friendship, Justice and Learning — our three guiding principles.
Varsity Boat Club (Sr. Yr. - Manager)
A platform and guide for the men and women of Washington Rowing, collectively encouraging the values of hard work, team before self, and personal improvement. All men and women participants at Washington are eligible for membership after rowing four quarters.
Not listed:
Schaller Scholarship Plaque Recipient
Awarded to crew member with the highest grades on the team. Bobby Moch won this award all three years he was on crew.
Phi Beta Kappa Key Holder
The Phi Beta Kappa is “America’s Most Prestigious Academic Honor Society.” It was founded in 1776 and aimed to promote and advocate excellence in the liberal arts and sciences, and to induct outstanding students of arts and sciences at select American colleges and universities. Fewer than 10% of US colleges and universities have Phi Betta Kappa chapters and these chapters select less than 10% of their arts and sciences graduates to join.

Just bc i saw badboyhalo trying and failing miserably (/pos it is a sound ppl have a lot of difficulty w and it is so nice to see ppl trying) at saying "não" here's a quick guide for how to say the "ã":
Guys im not joking, u guys have this sound too.
Ok take the word "under" uknow the sound of that first u? Its the same sound of the "ã" in portuguese (or at least close enough).
That's it. Now just transpose that same sound to the word "não" and congrats!!!! U've managed the worst sound in portuguese.

Don't let the distance between where you are and where you want to be scare you out of moving forward.
Tumblr media
But how?
This fear is like gravity. I can't feel it pulling me down, it is not prominent. It is not in the top of my head and making me fret every moment. It is not crushing or intense, it is not making me implode.
But it is there. It is keeping me from moving. I am paralyzed without even realizing. It has stopped me from being hopeful, or even looking at the future.
What's the cause? The distance between where I am and where I want to be, rather where I have to be. It is so far because I lagged behind once. And I am lagging behind still because the distance is daunting me now.
It's a loop. One thing feeds the other and vice versa. As time passes, the distance just keeps growing and I am standstill right where I was a year ago. And with the distance grows the fear. I get anxious more and more, and even simple tasks feel monstrous now. It is only a matter of time for me to succumb into the loop: to spiral into a blackhole.
How do I get out of this loop? How do I break this loop? How do I not let the distance scare me? Right now, I am all questions and no answers. I am writing this blog post to lift some weight off my chest and put it out in the open.
What helps you in such moments? Have you escaped the loop before? Or, are you too stuck in a loop like me?

job hunt tipssssss (and lessons learnt..)
Tumblr media
tailor your resume to each position you apply
(1) always make your employers' job easier
include only the relevant experience and keep the descriptions straightforward.. recruiters are basically just ticking boxes, make it easy for them to do so or expect them to bin your CV after a quick glance
(2) have too many part-time/work gaps?
i highly recommend using a skill-based CV than a chronological CV for this case; not only is it waaaaaaaaaay easier to prepare but also makes your experience look more put-together since you can mix & match your relevant skills.. give it a shot if you've inconsistent work history or want to have a career change; i should mention it's also a game changer for people whom English isn't the first language
(3) review your cover letter before heading to an interview
i mean you've already explained why you're a great fit for the job in the application, just take advantage of that effort and reiterate everything during the interview --- preparation done!
Tumblr media
dont use the same answer for interviews
.. it'll definitely make you come across as average
there are 3 key and frequently asked questions you should be ready for:
(1) tell me about yourself
start with a basic introduction, followed by your previous work experience (again, making them relevant to the job) and wrap up with a glimpse of your personality -- for instance, say something like.. I see myself as an ambitious and self-motivated person (.. and how these qualities fit the job profile!)
(2) what do you know about us/ why do you want to work for us
always research the company; mention its values or services, and how they resonate with you
(3) what can you offer us/ why do you think you suit this job
highlight how your experience aligns with the job requirements; this demonstrates your dedication and preparation.. and also shows the employer what they can expect from you
i hate interviews (who doesnt?).. i believe many of us are very qualified for jobs we're interested in but often struggle to demonstrate our competence effectively; my way to make the process less agitating is to view it as a cool opportunity for employers to learn about us: it's not an exam.. rather, it's a level playing field where two or more strangers come together to mutually explore each other.
This is your chance (after putting so much effort into preparing the application) to shine and let them know you're the perfect fit for the job they're offering!
Tumblr media
never trust the reaction of the interviewer!
some interviewers acted super affirmative to each of my responses, making me feel like i was nailing the interview.. but then i ended up getting no job; i understand the intention is to encourage interviewees during the process, but pls dont take them too seriously and get carried away
stay focused and humble instead
Tumblr media
always reflect after each experience (exactly what i'm doing now)
it's important to reflect on your performance and seek improvement for future applications
i always discover areas that could be done better while preparing for new job applications, even though i felt that i'd already given my best for the last one
the competition is fierce but dont worry about competing with others (what you cant control); instead, concentrate on what you can control --- demonstrating how you're the best candidate!
always put yourself in your employer's shoes and do the homework; focus on the good and keep trying, one day all your hard work will pay off and get the job you deserve
.
(i regret so much that i didnt perform better during my interview🥲i dont want the same to happen to you, pls take my tips and prepare as much as you cn💔)

y'know how they say an academic writing sample can be something like an undergrad thesis or journal article? but if a journal article has many authors, how do they know which part you contributed to? or do they just want the part of the article you wrote for the sample? sadly i don't have the option to do an undergrad thesis, so i won't have something that was purely/mostly my own to give...

Find a hobby besties. Literally anything that isn't staring at a phone screen. It does wonders for your mental health. I learned to spin yarn on a drop spindle (you can make your own for cheap, I got mine for 5$ at a local reenactment, bought wool from the ladies at said reenactment and now am part of the reenactment lol) and you never know what other doors may open for you! It's a great way to make friends who are also into the hobby. It doesn't have to be anything artsy, it could be reading, taking walks, seeing how much litter you can pick up, collecting fall leaves that are pretty
