PROPAGANDA
ALEX DEWITT (DC COMICS)
1.) The term “fridging” is literally based on Alex and what happened to her. She was killed off violently by a bad guy trying to get at her boyfriend only a couple issues after she was introduced (making it obvious they only brought her in to kill her off for shock value). Her death did very little to the narrative other than hurt her boyfriend Kyle and was done in an exceedingly horrifying and violent way. (Bad guy came to the door with flowers and threatening note, broke in and attacked her, choking her to death, before [off panel] chopping her body up and sticking it in the refrigerator as a “surprise” for her boyfriend. This obviously is really fucked up and she deserves better and should win this actually (a vote for Alex is a vote for all fridging victims [in spirit])
2.) It doesn’t get much worse than being the character whose death originated the “fridging” trope. In Green Lantern Vol. 3 #54, Kyle Rayner comes home to find that Alexandra, his girlfriend, has been killed by the villain Major Force and stuffed into the refrigerator.
Alexandra DeWitt is the character whose misogynistic treatment coined the term where a character, usually female, is killed off purely to make the main character, usually male, feel bad. Even if there are other characters who have been subjected to similar levels of misogyny, Alexandra DeWitt’s treatment has been essentially immortalized.
3.) I know she’s not going to win but shout out to my home girl, literally the trope namer for women shoved in fridges. All anyone ever knows about her is that she was Kyle’s girlfriend and got murdered for his character development, even though she had plenty of potential to be her own character.
AMBER VOLAKIS (HOUSE MD)
1.) Holy shit thank you for reminding me about Amber. Her nickname that almost everyone calls her to her face every day is Cutthroat Bitch. When she & Wilson start dating there are so so so many jokes about her keeping his balls in her purse & having him whipped & etc etc just bc she’s assertive & confident. & then the whole two-part episode where they fridge her (which is. not quite house’s fault directly but he definitely contributed to it) they make it completely about house & wilson & maybe 2% about HER. I’m still mad forever
2.) After being fridged, she does show up in later seasons! As a hallucination. She shows back up to be the devil on House’s shoulder when he is hurtling towards a vicodin-induced breakdown. Literally only shows up to steer him into making bad decisions (including almost killing Chase (allergic to strawberries) by inviting him to a party where the stripper is wearing strawberry scented lotion that sends him into anaphylaxis)
3.) im so glad someone else submitted amber because she fits so well for this poll but i couldnt get my words out right but im going to try again anyway. i think an important aspect of how ambers character is treated and written for the audience has to do with if a man did what she did, hed be opportunistic and ambitious, if not a bit of an ass, but because shes doing it it makes her ‘bitchy’. “cutthroat bitch” “coldhearted bitch” etc is practically her canon alias at this point by how much she is referred to that way rather than her name. she is probably the most humanized out of wilson’s canon relationships and its mostly because theyre paralleling her to house. she deserved so much better she deserved the world and more

Let me talk about Women in Refrigerators
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know what? This is a thing that is kinda annoying me in the Castlevania fandom. How everyone is screaming about Women in Refrigerators, while folks so clearly do not understand what the trope actually is about and why it is a bad trope.
Like, there is not a single death of a named woman in Castlevania, that not at least someone has called "fridged". Alright, maybe Drolta. But other than that... yeah, folks definitely have called Lenore and Carmilla fridged. And... No, people, you misunderstand the trope.
The name of the trope was coined based on Green Lantern vol. 3 #54 (from the 90s), in which Green Lantern finds his death girlfriend stuffed in a refrigerator - mostly for shock value in the reader. Mind you, this was the 90s, when superhero comics were really, really edgy and stuff. And in fact the kind of story happened a lot of times during this time. Female characters being killed, raped and tortured for pure shock value, with the story not featuring any idea of what this did to the female character, but rather focusing on what this does to the male characters. (And mind you: Yes, a woman can be considered fridged and still survive the ordeal. A lot of folks do consider Barbara in The Killing Joke fridged as well.)
So, what does "Fridging" in terms of the trope mean? Basically it means that a female character suffers a horrible fate just so that another (most probably male) character can be motivated to do something and react to this thing happening, setting in motion a character arc for the surviving character - or even setting into motion the plot.
In many examples it should also be noticed that at times the female characters mostly just exist to meet their horrible end. Supernatural as a show is really bad in this regard. Like, within the first episode of the show THREE FUCKING WOMEN get fridged, just so that the brothers can travel together and start the plot.
So, let's move back to Castlevania.
Lisa is fridged. There is no way around it. Yes, it does not feel like it, because they still managed to make her a character of sorts, but yeah, she definitely is fridged. She dies a horrible death and that death is what motivates the plot, as well as what motivates both Alucard and Dracula. That is very classical fridging no way around it.
Carmilla and Lenore, though? Yeah, they are not fridged. They are characters who just die. Their death is not used to motivate another character. Their death is also not random, like most fridging deaths. Especially Carmilla is basically asking for her death, of course. She is a villain and gets the same death as all other villains. And while it is a bit different with Lenore, she definitely is not fridged either, giving that she literally dies in the last episode with no plot or development happening because of her death.
In Nocturne it gets a bit more complicated. Is Julia fridged? In a way, I would argue, she is, mostly on the value that she exists as a character to die and for her death to be the basis for Richter's character arc, giving him the trauma he needs to overcome.
Esther meanwhile does not feel fridged to me. Because Annette's trauma is not deeply linked to her death, rather than the entire slavery experience in general.
Tera? Well, for Tera it is too early to tell. I still assume that her change into a vampire is going to be used to have the characters realize, that vampires are not inherently evil, and to give us a view into what vampire society looks like. At least that is what I assume.
By the way: The fridging of female characters is my big issue with the PS2 Castlevania games. Like, in Lament of Innocence both Sara and Elisabetha are getting fridged to motivate Leon and Mathias. And the same is true for Rosalie in Curse of Darkness, who as a character only exists to motivate Hector. I mean, she is so replacable as a character, that Hector fucking replaces her by the end of the game.

Didn't get a reply back on this but I'm going to post a few (DC) recs anyway? These are mostly places I think are good to start. (Disclaimer that these are influenced by personal taste).
Easy mode: Short contained run, probably less than 30 issues (can be more), very unlikely to have any crossovers, does not require much (if any) further knowledge of characters.
Medium mode: Approx 40-75 issues, will have some crossovers but you won't need to read them if you don't want to, may require a little wiki-ing about some characters/events but only if you're curious.
Hard(er) mode: We're reaching 100+ issue territory, many crossovers (some which can be ignored, some which may be confusing if ignored but you can wiki those if you don't want to read them). Believe me it is fairly easy to ignore a missing crossover/event issue and barrel on back to the main story in most cases.
Green Lanterns
Easy: Far Sector, Green Lantern: Legacy - both self-contained, introduce new characters.
Medium: Green Lantern Corps vol 2(2006-2011) - a few crossovers events here, (don't feel you have to read every blackest night crossover lmao just read what you want even if that is just this comic alone), Green Lanterns (2016-2018) (Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz).
Hard(er): Green Lantern vol 3 (1990-2006) (Kyle Rayner's run) #48 onwards, long run, not all of it is amazing quality but it is more good than not. Significant number of crossovers because this spans 12 years.
Superman
Easy: The Man of Steel (1986) six issue mini reintroducing Superman post-crisis, Superman Red & Blue (2021), Superman Smashes the klan (2019-2020), Batman/Superman: World's Finest (2022-ongoing)
Hard(er): Superman (1987-2006) + The Adventures of Superman (1987-2006) + Action Comics (1938-2011 starting at #597) These 3 titles run concurrently and the story sometimes moves from one to the next meaning you will miss something if you're not reading all three. (I am currently reading these and am only in the first quarter so cannot say anything about quality of later issues).
More under read more
Blue Beetle
Easy: Blue Beetle vol 2 (1986-1988)(Ted Kord), Blue Beetle vol 3 (2006-2011)(Jaime Reyes)
Hard(er): Justice League International/America (it renames at issue #26) (1987-1998) Team book (obviously) and a long run where quality is not always consistent but is fun overall and essential for Ted's character.
Booster Gold
Easy: Booster Gold vol 1 (1986)
Hard-(er): Justice League International/America (see above)
Misc.
Easy: Young Justice (1998-2003) (if you like Tim, Kon, Bart, Cassie etc an essential read)
Medium: Wonder Woman vol 5 (2016-2023) #1-#54 a good re-introduction of Diana post n52 (side note that I've heard Wonder Woman vol 2 (1987-2006) is good but I have not read it yet).

I'm here to remind you that DC is the reason we have the term 'fridging’ or 'women in refrigerators syndrome' (coined by Gail Simone). Alexandra DeWitt, who was a girlfriend of The Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, was killed and her body shoved in her fridge for Kyle to find. She was in like less that three comics then she was killed.

Hello! I’m a dc comic fan but I tend to stay in the batfamily and flash family lane and didn’t really read anything else until recently when I felt a strange urge to start reading some green lantern stuff (mostly thanks to Hal and Kyle lol)
So, was wondering if you had any good suggestions for comics or runs to read with these characters? I’d prefer lighter fun reads but feel free to suggest anything you’d like!!!
Thanks a million!
Unfortunately when it comes to GL content, there's not a lot of lighter fun reads without having to go through main runs, where its spread between with the heavier things. However, I can definitely give you a general timeline suggestion of where to start/what events to read!
I'm only going to point out main events, but you'll probably find the more lighthearted content in the issues between these events:
Green Lantern Vol. 3 (1990) #48-50 (Emerald Twilight)
#51-54 (General introduction to Kyle)
Zero Hour (An incredibly confusing event imo, but important to Hal)
#63-64 (Parallax View)
Final Night
#81, #101-106 (Emerald Knights)
Day of Judgement, Spectre (2001). Only read if you want to know about Hal as Spectre.
Green Lantern: Rebirth (2004)
Read however much you want of Green Lantern (2004) and Green Lantern Corps (2006). However I suggest checking out the Sinestro Corps War and the War of the Green Lanterns events. The Blackest Night is also an event but it is incredibly long, convoluted, and requires an insane amount of reading so... up to you.
After that point you can pick and choose what you like because of the New 52 reset, though it hardly effected any lantern lore, surprisingly. Green Lantern (2011) is a good place to start, but I'd suggest reading Green Lantern: New Guardians (2011) before starting Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps (2016). I actually haven't read anything past the rebirth titles ending just yet, so I can't help much there :(
Optional readings per character you happen to like:
JLA (1996), depends on where you read for which lantern is on the team.
Guy: Guy Gardner: Warrior, Red Lanterns (2011), any Justice League International stuff.
John: Green Lantern Corps (2011)
Kyle: Ion (2006).
Simon and Jess: Green Lanterns (2016), Justice League Odyssey for Jess only.
If you happen to really like Parallax and Kyle's dynamic, I suggest you check out Convergence: Green Lantern/Parallax, its short (and sweet?)
Don't read anything written by Tom K*ng with a lantern, such as Omega Men (2015) or Human Target. I promise its not worth it to read him massacre the characterization of your favorite.
P.S. If you like Flashfam and Bat content mixed with Green Lanterns, I suggest reading Countdown to Final Crisis (and the subsequent Search for Ray Palmer spinoffs), JLA/ Titans, and any of the Green Lantern/Flash series.

Eddie Fyers is a character from the Green Arrow comics originally created by writer Mike Grell. Fyers is a hit man and serves as both an enemy and a friend to Oliver Queen’s Green Arrow. Fyers has been said to be the “proper execution of the Shado plot” and can be counted as Connor Hawke’s “other dad.” Fyers is a (likely unintentionally) queer-coded character from the 1980s, who despite being a minor character has a compelling arc and his effect on Oliver Queen, and later Connor Hawke, is apparent in the text. Prior to DC’s Rebirth, he was last seen at the wedding of Green Arrow and Black Canary in 2007. Finally, though the DC Fandom Wiki lists his height as 5’9”, he is typically drawn somewhere between 5’3” and 5’5”- thus making him either a “manlet” or a “short king” depending on who you ask.

Women in Fridges-
Tumblr media
So basically the idea is women are killed to push forward a man’s plot. The list on this is long and some I disagree with because in some instances the offenses against the female character had nothing to do with a male character. But that’s not what I’m gonna talk about today.
The trope comes from Green Lantern vol 3 #54 when Kyle Rayner’s girlfriend Alexandra DeWitt is killed and stuffed into her fridge hence fridging. This is absolutely a problematic trope but ironically I’d argue the most famous instance of fridging wasn’t a real fridging.
Alex was a character that appeared about four times alive. We knew right away that she broke up with Kyle because he was immature. She had dreams of being a photographer. When Kyle got the Green Lantern ring the first thing he did was decide he was gonna be a hero and he went to tell Alex.
Alex was very much her own person. She told Kyle not to get himself hurt or in her way as she took pictures. Alex was very encouraging of Kyle and tough love was her love. She told him to get it in gear and he did.
They had plans to move to New York together. She would be a photographer and Kyle would be an artist and superhero. They were gonna be partners in life.
Alex had agency and personality and she was her own person. Alex was hunted because they figured she knew who the Green Lantern was. Right up to the end she maintained everything we knew about her. She was firm and steadfast she didn’t break she had a Will probably just as strong as Kyle’s.
She wasn’t killed because she was Kyle’s girlfriend she was targeted because of it. She was killed because she wouldn’t tell Major Force the name of the Green Lantern she was spotted with. Is there an argument to be made that Major Force would have killed her either way? Yeah for sure but we can’t know that.
The other major reason this doesn’t count as a fridging to me is it did nothing to the trajectory of Kyle’s life. Or well let me take that back. Kyle was and still is devastated by this loss. He loves Alex, he’ll always love Alex. But Kyle was a hero before Alex. After he lost Alex he considered giving up the ring because he didn’t think we was worthy of it and then Alan Scott told him otherwise and that was that. It was like an hour after the whole thing and Kyle got over it almost immediately so he probably wasn’t seriously considering it.
Alex’s death wasn’t about anything so pathetic as sending a message to Batman ie Babs and Steph. There was nothing about Alex that was a plot device because her death didn’t alter the plot. It was her life that did, it was always Alex’s life that mattered to Kyle. Whether it was to impress her when she was alive or honor her memory when she was dead. So her death changed nothing about his behaviors or his goals in life.
Her death wasn’t the most important part about her. It certainly wasn’t what was important to Kyle. And just yes fridging is a horrible trope but Alex and Kyle really shouldn’t be the face of that.
Okay and I’m gonna put her death under the cut just cause it’s long and it might be upsetting so you know at your own discretion. But if you managed the Killing Joke this isn’t even close to the same thing.
Okay first let’s look at the morning
Tumblr media
Alex had just gotten out of the shower and told Kyle to head off and do hero stuff. So Kyle was already a superhero. Kyle didn’t need to be talked or pushed into it. He decided as soon as he got the ring that he’d be a hero.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alex here was not a passive victim. Her first reaction was to grab a knife and fight back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s it that’s her dying. No weird sexual overtones. Nothing overly graphic and disgusting. She just died. Major Force held no grudges against Kyle. He was hired to find the Green Lantern and kill him. Alex was just there.
Hell if Kyle was pictured with a random dude who was his roommate they would have been targeted and killed just the same. And Kyle being Kyle would have been just as crushed that he got someone hurt for being close to him.
Tumblr media
The weirdest part of is in the obvious clothing change. Which does beg the question did Major Force really bother to put Alex in a different get up. Or did the artist forget what Alex was wearing before putting her in the fridge.
Tumblr media
and then this goes into the next issue #55
Tumblr media
That really sums up the whole thing. Like putting Alex on the same list as Babs Gordon and, if you’re familiar with Marvel Comics, Gwen Stacy just really misses the point of fridging all together. Babs was brutalized for the shock value and it’s a really bad story.
Gwen Stacy was killed to bring Peter Parker pain and only for that. Her whole character revolved around Peter Parker.
Alex wasn’t given a lot of time to shine but for me at least she always stood out as her own person.

Dick and Tim – brothers in arms
Tumblr media
So I got this ask. And it’s a good thing I got it the first night of my summer vacation, and the weather hasn't been great ;-)
Tumblr media
Once I started digging for comics with both Tim and Dick, I found several that I've never read. I got the impression Anonymous would like a complete list, so I just kept going. But this means I don't know if they even interact in some of the books, or if they make "blink and you miss it" guest appearances.
I'm sorry if they, by any chance, was asking for reading recommendations for good Dick and Tim moments and not The Complete List... Looking at the number of comics here that I haven't read/can't remember, I'm not really qualified to answer that. But if I had to try, I would mention:
A Lonely Place of Dying
The New Titans #65
All issues of Nightwing vol 2 with Robin as a guest star, including Nightwing Annual #1 but excluding Annual # 2.

I'm going to skip post-Flashpoint because, well, there's hardly anything there. The worst thing with Flashpoint/New 52, in my opinion, was that it destroyed relationships between characters who used to be family, but ended up hardly knowing or even liking each other. :-(

Detective Comics #975. By James Tynion IV, art Álvaro Martínez and Raúl Fernández.
The only panel worth mentioning with Dick and Tim is from DC #975. Yes, it's sad – one of the best brotherly relationships in DC turned into dust. Here's to hoping future writers will pick up on their wonderful dynamic at some time.

LEAFPOOL (WARRIOR CATS)
1.) For context, she’s a medicine cat, which is essentially the priest/healer of an ancestor-worshipping religion called StarClan, and there’s a rule in the living Clans prohibiting anyone from dating outside their Clan, and also prohibiting medicine cats from dating/having kits.
So she’s breaking the law by seeing a cat named Crowfeather in another Clan, and eventually gets pregnant. She secretly gives the children to her sister to raise instead, because the kits would’ve grown up in misery if their true parentage was known. When the secret gets out that they’re her kits, Leafpool became demonized to hell and back.
Crowfeather, who ALSO broke the law and fathered the kits, only got a slap on the wrist, and he’s almost certainly going to become leader. But Leafpool was demoted from her role as medicine cat (by her FATHER), treated like scum by her whole community (aside from her sister and best friend), and her children despise her for lying to them (one even tries to get her to kill herself). The narrative constantly paints her as a liar that’s getting what she deserves, and even has her children insult her at HER FUNERAL, years after the secret got out. She’s a main character and she dies OFF SCREEN between books!
It’s not even over when she dies. StarClan decides to hold a trial for her when she dies to see if she deserves to join them, or if she’s banished to cat hell for eternity. War criminals who abetted in genocide never got a trial, they were just let in. An incel who tried to kill 4 people because he was mad his ex dumped him got let in without question. But the cat whose only crime was dating someone in another Clan and having kids gets a full trial? Keep in mind their sire gets a whole book about StarClan coming down to help him, because clearly only she deserved to be punished.
Leafpool’s life is nonstop suffering because of misogynistic double standards. Treated like the devil for getting pregnant and wanting to give her kids a better life, while all the men involved get excused, coddled, and placed into positions of power.
2.) she went through So much bullshit. squirrelflight (her sister) too. i’m sure she’ll also get submitted. Cat God (starclan) vaguely told her to run away with the man she liked and then got mad at her when she did it. and then she was punished for it the rest of her life. She had kids with him and those kids were like Incredibly Important and wouldn’t exist if not for her but she’s still punished for it. BY STARCLAN. Who told her to have those kids in the first place . and of course the books just treat this like it’s pretty much normal and fair
3.) just like her sister squirrelflight, she does many things that male characters do and faces drastically different consequences. she and another cat, named crowfeather, run away from their clans to get cat married. this is illegal because they’re from different clans. when they get home, leafpool is pregnant. when all of this is revealed(years later) their punishments could not be more different. when they first come back, leafpool is suspected, talked poorly about, and outlasted. we aren’t shown any consequences towards crowfeather at all. after the grand reveal of leafpool having kids(and giving them away to her sister since she’s a doctor and doctors can’t gave kids) leafpool is forced to give up her position as doctor, is disowned as her kids aunt figure, and completely outcasted by the whole clan(mostly the same happens to her sister). crowfeather is just minorly treated poorly and gets a cat divorce.

What Dreams May Come by Lenore | Crimson Peake | Edith/Thomas | 5k |  Ghosts are real, and there are things that tie them to this world. Sometimes it's because they want to linger, and sometimes it's because they are trapped. Sometimes ghosts need the help of the living before they can be truly free.
and prove your body wrong by paperclipbitch | The Defenders | Matt Murdock/Jessica Jones | 1k | Neither of them can read minds, but they both fake it for their day jobs.
these roads will take you into your own country by notbecauseofvictories | American Gods | Shadow/Laura, Gen | 5k | Here’s a joke for you: a Muslim, a zombie, and a leprechaun walk into a bar in Misery, Indiana. No one stares, because no one in the puckered, shitty asshole of Misery, Indiana gives a fuck. The Colts are playing.“Fucking new gods,” the leprechaun mutters, hunching his shoulders almost up to his ears. “Gridiron and Pepsi commercials.”
Small Step For Man by Toft [archived by yuletide_archivist] | Greek Myth | Artemis/Apollo | 4k | "It's all right, sister," Apollo whispers, and his arm is warm around her shoulder. She forgets, he is her twin, he is her other half; he knows her almost as well as she knows herself. "We're still the same."
learning curve by Yuu_chi | Detroit | Hank/Connor | 15k | “While sexual activity is not my default purpose, I do possess the capability,” Connor says without so much as batting an eye, unaware that he’s completely shattered Hank’s world view in one single sentence.
machine learning by kriegersan | Detroit | Hank/Connor | 31k | “This kinda shit doesn’t go away overnight. It’s only been a few months, Connor. We’re only just starting to know what this is gonna look like.” Lt. Anderson throws back his beer.“You think I don’t know that?” He sounds defensive. He tempers his voice. “I’m simply processing.”
eighteen wheels on an uphill climb by blackeyedblonde | Detroit | Hank/Connor | 73k | Hank is going to die. He’s going to die right here in Kentucky, 53 years old, halfway to broke, and tragically sober. Survived only by a nine-year-old St. Bernard and the 31-year-old twink who delivered the fatal blow.
Fuck pride (pride only hurts, it never helps) by ImogenGotDrunk | Detroit | Nines/Gavin | 40k | What Gavin cannot deal with is Connor’s replica; two inches taller, blue-eyed, and with a mouth that Gavin doesn’t know whether to punch or take between his teeth. The RK900 model has been assigned as his partner for the foreseeable future.
linguistics, semantics by pseudoanalytics | DBH | Hankcon | 49k | "So, what? Cyberlife gave you a preference for ugly, old, washed-up bastards?" Connor intentionally allows himself to appear unamused. "Absolutely not." He waits for Hank to look at him again before delivering his punchline. "I believe I developed that for myself."
Skin Deep by bughnrahk | DBH | Hankcon | 50k | Hank is 53 years old. He's never had a soul mark, doesn't have a soul mate. And he's fine with that. He cheated the system once and it cost him everything he had. Never again. When August 2038 rolls around and the number '313 248 317 - 51' appears on his arm in perfect Cyberlife Sans font, exactly where a soul mark should be, Hank wants nothing to do with it.
Watch Me, Watch You by elefseus (oscillos) | DBH | Hank/Connor | 82k | WIP | "How do you go about living when everything you've ever known changes? Can you?"
the most formidable lies by fshep | DBH | Connor/Gavin | 15k | WIP | Gavin is given an ultimatum: agree to give his mother’s coworker’s son a chance, or introduce his family to his new boyfriend, Connor, who isn’t his boyfriend at all.

Propriety and Fate by esama | Temeraire | Lawrence/Tharkay | 3.5k | It isn't as if one can go and talk about such things
Watercast by Fishwrites | Voltron | Keith/Lance | 205k WIP, Chapter 15 | Shiro has been a Galra prisoner for over a year; with his flight feathers clipped and unable to fly. Desperate to escape, he jumps overboard while being transported to the capitol on a Galran ship. Lance is a merman who saves him from drowning. Keith thinks Shiro is about to become mermaid dinner. Hunk just wants Lance to stop going to the surface all the time, dammit!
Afterlife by jaegermighty | Haunting of Hill House | Gen, Luke-centric | 6k |  Leigh and Steve name their daughter Eleanore, with an 'e' on the end which is more old-fashioned, they say. Eleanore Olivia Crain. Lots of dead people in that name; Luke's not a fan. Not that anyone asked his opinion.
in memoriam by oxymoronic | Bartimaeus | Gen | 1.5k | Kitty Jones has but a little strength left in her body, and she has decided on this lazy summer's night to spend it on the question which has plagued her for half a century.
March
Second Chances by rootbeer | Teen Wolf | Sterek | 2k | "A lot of times the ‘markings’ were common, simple things you said to strangers all the time. 'Excuse me'; 'thank you'; 'hello'. Some got extremely romantic things like 'it’s you isn’t it? I’ve been waiting for you' or 'Wow you’re really pretty'. And they were always the first words their soulmate would ever say to them.Of course, having 'You are the fucking worst kind of person in the world' tattooed down your side, didn’t bode well.
have your cake and eat it too by keskasi | Naruto | Naruto/Sasuke | 7k | “What’s it like to give a blowjob?” Naruto asks.
Timing it Right by DragonBandit | The Bright Sessions | Mark/Damien | 14k | Damien's gold rises at Whitney. Mark tries to make things right.
April
and maybe you'll find a way to keep me a floating when i can't by LazyBaker | Stranger Things | 3k | Billie’s tough. Nothing but sharp edges with sharper teeth. She’s all bark and all bite.
A thousand by Ever-so-reylo (Ever_So_Reylo) | Star Wars | Reylo | 3k |  “I’m going to kill you, now.” The problem is—really, the crux of all of Rey’s problems at the moment—he actually thinks he means it.
He Who Is Made Of Iron by MayContainBlueberries | The Queen’s Thief | Gen, Costis centric | Tea reminds Costis of his childhood.

for my wild by vixleonard | GOT | Arya/Gendry | Set post 8x04, Arya tries to find out who Arya Stark is now.
Almost Cool by blacktofade | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Shane/Ryan | 30k | While filming the Yuma Territorial Prison episode, Shane gets bitten by what he thinks is a bat. Spoiler alert: it's not.
Two Worlds Collided by blacktofade | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Shane/Ryan | 10k | There's a new guy at work and Ryan belatedly realizes they've actually already met once before.
Keeping Out the Cold by blacktofade | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane | After a strange ghostly encounter, Ryan and Shane begin sharing visions via a telepathic bond. AKA: the In Your Eyes AU that no one asked for.
Bringing Things Together by blacktofade | Buzzfeed Unsolved | 7k | “Look,” Shane says over the phone. “Mistakes were made.”
Pride by astolat | Game of Thrones | Jaime/Cersei/Brienne | 22k Jaime didn’t understand why Cersei suddenly insisted on trimming his hair and shaving his beard, but he also didn’t care to fight her on it, even though he’d just as soon have kept the beard: it was bitterly cold in the small tower room with its arrow-slits. At night, even curled together under the two blankets they’d been allotted, it took the better part of an hour before their bodies could warm the bed enough to sleep.
L'aura è tua messaggera by Rosyredlipstick | PJO | Nico/Will | 9k | Or, how the Stoll Brothers accidentally got Nico di Angelo and Will Solace together.
June
Competition by astolat | GoT | Jaime/Brienne | 11k | Almost the instant Brienne was out of earshot, Bronn turned to Podrick, jerked his head towards Jaime and asked, “Has he fucked her yet?”
Skin and Scales by Ernmark (M_Moonshade) | The Penumbra Podcast | Arum/Rilla/Damien | 17k | The man glares, and this time, Damien is certain it isn’t a trick of the light: those eyes are violet as amethyst. He wears disdain like a second skin–- or, perhaps, like the scales that he is missing.“Lord Arum?”
I will become yours and you will become mine by spiderwebsitar | DBH | Reed900 | 24k | After an argument with his new partner, Gavin Reed wakes up five years in the future married to an android who won’t stop making fucking waffles.
Numerology by Hth | Schitt’s Creek | Patrick/David, Sebastien/David | 20k | Still, it's true that Patrick can have his shy side. He likes to be a gentleman – Mr. Order Whatever You Want I'm Paying and Mr. Here Let Me Fix That For You and Mr. No David Not In the Backseat I Want It to Be Special – so David can't entirely rely on Patrick's willingness to charge forward for the greater good.

Ugly Words and Pretty Things by Ias | The Terror | Crozier/Fitzjames | 4k | There are words for a man like that.
Sands of Time by tirsynni | LoZ | Link/Ganondorf | 97k | Link awakens in the desert with no idea how he got there, to encounter his worst enemy...except it was the King of the Gerudo, not the King of Evil, he faced.
death shall be no more by Ias | The Terror | Fitzjames/Crozier | 5k | "I'd rather we leave our tents behind and sleep two to a sack like the orphans we are, than to leave one man alone with last burdens."
and then redemption by spidermooned (softlyblue) | Marvel | Spiderman & Loki | 7k | "Kid," says Tony Stark wearily, "Please gimme a reason Loki's been spotted talking to Spiderman that isn't 'I wanted to be his friend'. Please. Tell me you can do that."
so many ways to talk about longing by lymricks | Stranger Things | Harringrove | 3.6k | Steve wakes up--in a pool lounger--to Billy Hargrove looming over him. Billy pushes his sunglasses down and Steve thinks sleepily that it must be so that Steve gets the full impact of Billy’s narrow-eyed glare. “Harrington,” Billy says. “We’re fucking closed.”
sun gutters by lymricks | Stranger Things | Harringrove | 5k | Steve can feel Billy’s eyes on him. “You should get here early,” Billy says, casually. “Tomorrow. At six.”
Finders Keepers by blacktofade | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane | 3k | Ryan wakes with a hangover and an empty bed, and only one of them he expects.
Back Room by forthegreatergood | Good Omens | Aziraphale/Crowley | 5.6k | Aziraphale actually does have quite an extensive collection of pornography in the bookshop. Like most of the questionable things in Aziraphale’s life, it’s Crowley’s fault.
killed with kindness by veterization | Persona 5 | Akechi/Akira | 52k | Goro can't quite figure out why so many people keep acting like they're his friend.
July
On mandated uniforms and workplace entertainment by Thei | Stranger Things | Harringrove | 2k | Robin loves this job. Besides an income, it also provides her with quality entertainment. Especially when she's working with Steve, and Billy Hargrove shows up.
don't make a shadow (of yourself) by lymricks | Stranger Things | Harringrove | 11k | WIP | And Billy, curled in a cheap plastic seat with his eyes squeezed shut, wonders, could it really be this easy? Just get on a bus and go home?
paper thin by sarcasticfishes | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane/Sara | 9k | Shane’s new neighbors are a morning-sex kind of couple.
your love is three times better by sarcasticfishes | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane/Sara | 14k | Ryan grimaces as he types out the words, >It’s Valentine’s Day. Don’t you want to do romance stuff?
you, through half-shut eyes by brawlite | Stranger Things | Harringrove | 8k | Two parts sugary sweet summer vibes, one part snarky instagram stories, and three parts mutual pining.
damn.nation, now available on itunes by antistar_e (kaikamahine) | Good Omens | Crowley/Aziraphale | 11k | When lowly tempt-pusher Amphora (formerly of Stairwell 7B North, before she Fell,) gets the notice that end times are nigh, she gleefully quits her job and cancels her Netflix subscription and takes her place among the legions of hell. This, it turns out, was a bad plan.
The Dragon and Her Wolves by hapakitsune | Game of Thrones | Sansa/Dany/Jon | 60k |  When the truth of Jon's birthright is revealed, control of the North and Daenerys's claim to the Iron Throne are both called into question. To preserve their tenuous alliance and secure her rule, Daenerys puts aside her personal feelings to arrange a marriage of political convenience between Jon and Sansa Stark.
Bonded by softestpunk | The Witcher | Emiel/Geralt | 13k | Regis is punished for Dettlaff's assumed death, Geralt comes to the rescue, and the two of them gain something neither of them would ever have dared hope for.
Something We Were Withholding Made Us Weak by triedunture | Good Omens | Aziraphale/Crowley | 17k | "Yes, exactly. Retire." Aziraphale reaches for the last remaining tartlet brimming with summer berries. "Somewhere along the south coast, perhaps."
something happens and i'm by brawlite | Stranger Things | Harringrove | 10k | Billy loves his job as at the Hawkins Community Pool. It's even better now that Steve Harrington's a lifeguard, too.

I’m Gonna Keep You in Love with Me (for a While) by beethechange | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane | 22k | “Okay,” Shane says finally. “Okay. Here’s what we’re going to do. We’re just going to—we’re going to be married. The only way out is through.”“Um,” Ryan says, because this plan strikes him as counterproductive to their shared goal of not being married.
YELLOW SQUARE by dejavu (suggcest) | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane | 16k |  “Since being the scene of those two, grisly double homicides in the early 1950’s, the Bringle House Bed and Breakfast has sat empty, waiting for the next couple stupid enough to try to stay all four nights.”
darling it's a faded notion by varnes | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane | 28k |  Ryan and Shane get cursed by a ghost, and now they can't be not-touching. It's ... not great.
Things That Go Bump in the Night (and 7 till 12 at weekends) by HoopyFrood | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane | 4k | Shane works at a Haunted House. Ryan is Ryan. Things go about as well as you'd imagine.
Everything's Weird and We're Always in Danger by beethechange | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane | 15k | “It won’t go away,” Ryan says miserably. “I’ve been like this since we got here, basically, and it won’t fucking—”
Muscles Better and Nerves More by beethechange | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Shane/Ryan | 26k | “I’m serious,” Ryan says. “Don’t go fucking up my body. I want that shit back in the same condition I left it.”

Post Crisis Cassandra Cain comics overview - recs, mentions, and warnings
I already posted this on my main blog a few days ago, but now that I’ve actually posted all the post Crisis articles, it’s time to mention it here as well.
Below the cut, you will find a full and detailed chronological (in-universe chronology) list of Cass material I recommend for reading, cameos and mentions for which a summary of the issue is enough, and things you should absolutely avoid, with annotations like this (**comment**).
But first, the TLDR version:
Recommended:
No Man’s Land storyline, starting with Batman Vol 1 567 (Trade issue 3 of 5, I think)
Ghost/Batgirl: The Resurrection Engine Vol 1 1-4
Batgirl Vol 1 (suffers from Mass Effect syndrom, i. e. turns into garbage on the last page of the final issue)
Batman and the Outsiders Vol 2 1-14 (beware occasionally bad art)
Batgirl Vol 3 1 and Batman Incorporated 1 6 (for the costume change)
Gates of Gotham Vol 1 1-5 (THE best post Batgirl Vol 1 Cass storyline)
Convergence: Batgirl Vol 1 1-2
AVOID:
Batman: City of Light Vol 1 1-8 (Utter garbage.)
War Games storyline (All of it. Except maybe the Batgirl issues.)
Robin Vol 4 148-152 (Aka “Robin: One Year Later”. Aka Cass’ character assassination.)
Supergirl Vol 5 13-14 (more evil Cass BS)
Teen Titans Vol 3 43-46 (even more evil Cass BS)
Robin Vol 4 161-162 (still not done with the evil Cass BS)
Batgirl Vol 2 1-6 (the evil Cass BS finale – all you need to know is that Bruce adopts Cass)
Battle for the Cowl Vol 1 1-3 (Utter garbage!)
Full version below the cut:
Batman Vol 1 567 (**Cass’ first appearance**)
Detective Comics Vol 1 734
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Vol 1 120 (**Cass becomes Batgirl, meets Dick & Tim**)
Azrael: Agent of the Bat Vol 1 56-57
Batman Chronicles Vol 1 18
Robin Vol 4 73
Azrael: Agent of the Bat Vol 1 60-61
Batman: Gotham City Secret Files and Origins Vol 1 1
Batman: Gotham Knights 2
Ghost/Batgirl: The Resurrection Engine Vol 1 1-4
Batgirl Vol 1 1
Young Justice Vol 1 21
Batgirl Annual 2000 Vol 1 1
Batgirl Vol 1 2-12
Robin Vol 4 88 (**meets Stephanie)
Batgirl Vol 1 13-14
DC1st Vol 1 1 Batgirl/Joker (**the art style is… very unique**)
Batgirl Vol 1 15
Superboy Vol 4 85
Batgirl Vol 1 16-18
Harley Quinn Vol 1 10-12
Batgirl Vol 1 19-20
Supergirl Vol 4 63
Batgirl Vol 1 21-26
Batman Vol 1 600
Batgirl: Secret Files and Origins Vol 1 1 (**avoid the last story with Barb and Cass**)
Batgirl Vol 1 27-29
Batman Vol 1 605
Batgirl Vol 1 30-33
Batman Family Vol 1 6-8
Batgirl Vol 1 34-38
Detective Comics Vol 1 790
Gotham Knights Vol 1 42+45
Batgirl Vol 1 39-47
Superman/Batman Vol 1 5
Batgirl Vol 1 48-52
Detective Comics Vol 1 796 (**Cass meets Onyx**)
Batgirl Vol 1 53
Justice League Elite Vol 1 1-12 (**not much Cass at first, but best read as one block**)
Batgirl Vol 1 54
Batgirl Vol 1 55-57 (**War Games storyline is garbage, but read it for context**)
Batgirl Vol 1 58
Robin Vol 4 133
Batgirl Vol 1 59-73 (**the last page of 73 sucks!**)
Batman and the Outsiders Vol 2 2-14 (**the art is occasionally atrocious**)
Battle For The Cowl: The Network Vol 1 1 (**the only good thing in BFTC**)
Batgirl Vol 3 1 (**read for context of Cass’ identity change only**)
Wonder Woman Vol 2 600 (**”Fuzzy Logic” short story – very cute flashback!**)
