Starting off with my current "workhorse" pens - I have like *checks notes* 36 fountain pens and a bit too many inked up atm, but these are just the ones I'm currently reaching for or have inked up more often than not:

TWSBI Go (F): Kinda ugly! But also kinda cute! It's cheap and works great (I friggin love TWSBI pens tbh) and it has a little hole on the cap where you can attach a lanyard or charms, like I did! Makes it cuter imo and it's kind of my emotional support pen these days.

Opus88 Pocket (EF): This 2022 edition has a little Moon tarot design on the cap so it's pretty much the pen I use exclusively for my witchy/tarot practice journals! A lil bummed the cap doesn't post, especially since its a shorter pocket-sized pen, but not a deal breaker and I still love it.

Pilot Custom 823 (F): My grail pen that I've literally coveted for years and just recently acquired at the DC Pen Show this weekend! It's only been a day but I think it could potentially become my favorite pen. Ever.

Pilot Prera (CM): This is my third Prera lol. I just think they're great and really underrated pens! Also a recent acquisition from the DC Pen Show and this cursive M nib is suuuuper fun to write with.

Pilot Vanishing Point (EF): My favorite pen for planning! Super fine-tipped for writing task lists and schedules and love that it's so convenient/quick-draw with the click mechanism.

Journals/Planners/Notebooks under cut–

Sterling Ink B6 Common Planner: For a good chunk of this year, I was in this planner because I honestly love the size and all the layouts. Super practical and flexible as a system. 10/10 would go back. I've used it to plan, as a reading journal, as a tarot log...

But I get the itch to move around so it's been sitting a little unused since like June, oop.

Leuchtturm A6: I started craving something tiny and minimal so I've been bullet journaling in this pocket notebook for the last month or two and I'm really enjoying it!

Standard-sized Tomoe River Paper notebook: This is pretty consistent in that I don't change up the system itself, but I'm in and out of it for memory keeping/scrapbook journaling! It's almost always a Tomoe River paper notebook of SOME kind that I usually buy in A5 size to go to FedEx and get it cut down to standard. Though I'm thinking of getting a blank Midori MD A5 to have cut down next time - I've been liking the freedom of blank pages for journaling instead of anything lined or gridded.

I really need to catch up with it tbh, but I love sitting in an explosion of printed photos, stickers, and washi and going ham with the pages.

Midori MD Cotton B6 Slim: I also have this sketchbook that sorta turned into a visual sketch diary of sorts. I fell off a while ago but want to get back into it because it's super fun to work in and to look back on!

Wide-sized Cosmo Air Light notebook & A5 Filofax Malden: These are my tarot/witchy journals. Grimoires I guess? One is for journaling and all my messier notes while the other is more for reference and ease of organization.

A5 Leuchtturm: I didn't know if I should include this guy, but I've been writing it in a lot recently so I guess I will lol. This is like truuuly a miscellaneous™ notebook.

I got this A5 notebook back in 2017 to use as my very first bullet journal, then found out that this size is personally waaaay too big for me to use as a bullet journal so I hopped off of it pretty quick. It now sits on my desk because since it's mostly blank I'll just pick it up to use it to write literally A N Y T H I N G.

Most recently, I wrote like 5 pages in one night on notes for a fanfiction piece I was working on (I'm not a writer, this fic is never gonna see the light of day by anyone but me lololol. Hyperfixation is so wild; I've put 80k+ words within just 10 days into it so far and it's been hella therapeutic.)

It's funny because I actually have a NEW notebook arriving tomorrow that I'm going to try out as a bujo/commonplace/omni journal of sorts?? I might write an update post after I've set that up and see how I like it <3

my dc movies hot take is that the green lanterns should get split into essentially home and away teams for the new universe, with John being the GL who appears in league stuff, and Jess and Guy being the lanterns appearing in any green lantern stand-alone movies

this is primarily because when John gets adapted to other media his defining character trait is always that he's the competant one, and that's very useful in a team story, but makes a shit protagonist for an origin story, and people are not familiar enough with the lanterns to skip the origin story movie

my pitch for the GL solo movie would be that it's about Jess getting called up after the deaths of hal and kyle in a 'nobody wants to talk about it' pre-movie disaster. guy is assigned to mentor her but is initially fucking awful at it because he's massively traumatised from hal and kyle's deaths.

(jess is absolutely tailor made for origin 'coming into her power' type storylines, and guy is both mentor shaped and the most capable of starting the movie as a grumpy kind of agressive mess and then actually working through that without either end of the character arc feeling ooc. i'm just fully haymitch abernathy-ing this man because i know he can take it)

over the course of the movie, jess will slowly uncover the truth that the disaster in question involved hal going paralax (this would not be widely known - most people on oa think hal died fighting paralax, and only guy knows that actually hal got possessed by paralax and him and kyle had to kill him before he blew up the planet or whatever), and also he's not actually dead he's coming back to try it again, but no one will believe her, except guy, so they both have to work through some stuff to build a solid working relationship and defeat paralax and save the world

i honestly don't really care if you save hal at the end of the movie or permakill him, i think you could give either pretty good emotional resonance, but personally I think you save him, and have him basically fuck off in self imposed exile to star in an animated series for a couple of seasons

(kyle probably just stays dead, tbh, and simon never appears, because there's a limited number of human GLs you can fit into the smaller scale of a movie universe, so someone's got to go. if you really can't resist including kyle, the injustice-verse gives us precedent for a recently evil hal being haunted by the ghost of a GL corps member, so he could just follow hal around in his animated series as a ghost forcing him to talk about his feelings, he'd probably be quite good at that)

anyway marvel continue to refuse to hire me despite me making multiple posts on tumblr.com about how good i'd be at writing marvel movies, so i guess this is my pitch to dc. james gunn i know you're reading this you can have this concept for free if you promise to make a we are robin movie

oh this is a good one! thank you anon. this is going to be a fun mix of fandoms, hope that's okay 💜 but also not me forgetting every story i wrote this year.

None of Us are More Than Caretakers (The West Wing) - I had so much fun writing this, I had the whole thing written in about six weeks, and I see it as sort of the transition-era story we didn't get... all because I was reading on wikipedia and saw that Gerald Ford died over the holiday season in 2006. Anyway, read if you enjoy CJ/Danny seekrit relationship, a story about transition of power, and taking care of the country (and each other). 66k.

Close to the Heart (M*A*S*H) - Okay, I know this one is ongoing but hear me out: I love writing about the dynamic between Hawkeye and the Hunnicutts. I love taking tropes and subverting them, turning ideas on their heads. Close to the Heart aka subverted noir AU does ALL of those things for me. It's fun to have canon echoes and twisted dynamics, and fun to keep the audience guessing. 💜 23.5k but still ongoing.

A Night to Watch (The West Wing) - It shows a tiny bit that this was one of my first TWW fics, but tbh I don't care, because it still has one of my favourite headcanons in it: Danny driving the seven and a half-ish hours from manchester to DC on election night because he thinks CJ needs him. 6.1k.

Perfect (M*A*S*H) - One of my favourite things, as stated previously, is subversion. I love the idea of Peg and BJ both wanting to make their anniversary "perfect" (and then of course realizing that they're together again so it is perfect). This idea of them growing post-war and slowly growing back together while also seeing how they've grown separately is just... chef's kiss. to me. love those two. 2.5k.

Off the Record (The West Wing) - One of my more out-there concepts: one missing (CJ/Danny) scene for every episode of season 1 of The West Wing. An out-there concept I compounded by also writing them for seasons 2, 3, and part of 4. I had SO MUCH FUN writing these, fleshing out canon and building on it!!! I think it added a lot to canon without ever trampling on it, but that's just me! 31k. + Bonuses (under cut)

6. its torment won't be through (M*A*S*H) - A tag to 'That's Show Biz' that I started a year or two ago, and I loved the opening dialogue so much that when I found it this year, I decided I'd rewrite it. I figured it was just an average beejhawk story, but I went back and reread it recently and it had grown on me a lot! 2.6k. 7. An Idea, Whose Time has Come (The West Wing) - Briefly hesitated about putting this one in, because I need to get back to it, but I love this fic so much. It's a fun, original idea, even if I need to do a shit tonne of research for every chapter (that + grad school is why it's taking so long!), but anyway, CJ runs for President in 2018. Hopefully will not be too relevant going into an election year... 14k (so far).

9. In your xxx fic, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote?

My favorite part of let me wrap my teeth was definitely the Neuroscanner scene--it's like a character study from hell, poured through the darkest and most warped lens, and I loved the intertwined threads of violation, destruction, and sheer overstimulation as the scene progresses. I loved played with the glitch effect and the sense of shit steadily falling apart as time goes on, pushing everyone to the breaking point.

12. Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?

Depends on the fandom...for TMNT it's Leonardo, because I love his tortured leader aesthetic and the sheer amount of trauma he puts up with is really fun. For DC it's Damian, because I have a soft spot for angsty baby murderers trying to be better.

For Avatar I'd think recom Jake, because he's such a perfect Frankenstein's monster of hunger and cruelty and pain and power. With Spider being a close second, because I love this boy and I love fucking him up.

13. Who is your least favourite character to write for? Why?

Hmmm...well, if I don't like writing for a character I usually don't write for them. I guess in the TMNT fandom it might be Mikey, who I find kind of annoying. In Avatar I guess I'm not interested in writing for some members of recom squad, who kind of blur together to me, although some of course I'm very interested in writing for.

17. Post a line from a WIP that you’re working on.

She thinks of her bloodmother’s notes, Norm’s diagrams, chemical structures and samples and the dizzying, shifting shapes of one molecule folding into another. She remembers everything Grandmother and Mom ever taught about the woods, about bodies, about transformation, rebirth, the power every body carries to create, destroy, and make anew.

I admire so many, on and off ao3...and one of them also happens to write about nightmare 50s domesticity in space and the psychological horrors that can be linked to teddy bears, so what do you know.

For the house is the same size as the world, hmm...I'd think the part were Ronal refers to rJake and Quaritch as Spider's mates. I wanted to avoid demonizing her or putting her on a pedestal there, just highlight the complicated, thorny angstiness of the situation, plus the added factors of Kiri's protectiveness and Spider's heavily internalized victim blaming. I hope I pulled it all off.

He’s still not used to being allowed to look at him out in the open on the street where anyone can see him.  Alex gives him a little wave and starts descending down the steps before he’s interrupted midway by none other than Miguel Ramos.  “ACD, back in DC where you belong?”

Just some rambling thoughts on Tim’s upcoming run:

When it was announced I felt that it could go one of two ways: a more expected/neutral take like what we saw in UL or in Fitzmartin’s previous segment from his pride special, OR something a bit more whimsical. I think it’s definitely going to be much more of the second.

I remember thinking “I would be hype to see some scooby doo detective hijinks” and I guess wish received!

No matter the tone though, I think it’s going to be hard to pull off. Many fans have been desperate for a Tim solo for years, and regardless of the content it’s just not going to please everyone. There’s no way for it to. The people who read his robin & yj runs are going into it with those high expectations (me too mates), people who liked his red robin characterization are maybe looking for something less silly, and people who mainly view his character through fandom probably have their own expectations for him. Many new readers know him with fanon characterization, however, if he’s perceived to be too much like fanon!Tim it’s going to REALLY annoy long term readers, which is its own can of worms. (Plus, just looking at Twitter, there are people already seething just because of Tim being bi, but tbh who really cares about them.) Just overall—very little chance of making everyone happy.

Personally, I liked the slice of life stuff we got to see in between his robin shenanigans, and the bonds he had w the rest of his family/friends. I really hope those things are shown in this run. I hope he isn’t too disconnected from the rest of the Bats living in that little new boat of his. I hope it has the heart the 90s run had.

So, again, it’ll be hard to pull off and will need some really good writing. Is Fitzmartin up for that? Who knows. Its best to keep an open mind and not get expectations up TOO high—to just enjoy something for what it is. (Hopefully what it is is good)

As for the art: when I first saw the artist I was a bit on the fence. I was worried that we were going to get something that had a tone closer to what we saw of Tim in Urban Legends and that it wouldn’t mesh well with they style. However! It looks like it’s going to have a much different vibe.

Now, I’m sure plenty of people have also already said that the chin sure is A Choice (It’s a little too masculine for Tim imo), but aside from that it looks really fun and dynamic. It wasn’t what I was expecting but I think it’s something that I could get used to. (Again, gotta put aside some expectations and just let something be nice and surprising.)

I have SO MANY thoughts on this run honestly. None of this even touches on what I want from dc as a whole regarding Tim’s character. If I started I’d never stop. Kinda flipping between excited and nervous. I just want Tim to get a good run!

I have no idea where they're even getting you supposedly being a terf from tho, because as a trans person that's been following you for probably a year now (?? I think) I've always gotten the opposite vibes, but then again we've already seen reading really isn't their strongsuit lmao

I do have a question/situation that I wanted to get your opinion on. About two years I wrote a couple fics in which I wrote Tim as aro. I was genuinely thrilled when they made him bi but as a result I feel kind of weird about those works now tbh. I mostly wrote them because I myself am aro and wanted to like, idk create more aro stories out there I guess and also project some feelings lmao and as there aren't... well, any canon aros within dc (as far as I'm aware), I just picked someone. However, I'm worried that if I wanted to write something again now it'd appear biphobic, when the last thing I want to do is erase the representation DC is slowly starting to give us. I know you are not like, the authority on sexuality or whatever, but as you are bi I would like to hear your opinion regardless (if you're feeling up to it rn).

IMO, there isn't anything wrong with having written fics of Tim being ace a couple of years ago? A load of people read him as ace for decades, just like how people read him as bi! He's always felt very LGBTQ.

It would be a different thing writing it now, though? If that makes sense? Like he is bisexual (hasn't explicitly said it in comics but has been confirmed by creators) now, rather than before, where he never had an explicitly stated sexuality.

There are a few canon asexuals in DC though! Connor Hawke is the most recent example (he had a story in this year's Pride anthology).

The Pride special also confirmed that Querl Dox of the Legion of Superheroes is asexual! It was a very underrated thing that people didn't talk about enough but also of course I would say that the Legion are my angels who can do no wrong and deserve literally everything good in this world.

Roshanna Chatterji, from the N52 book "The Movement" might be one of the only other comic characters at DC to explicitly say they're asexual?

Legends of Tomorrow also added an original character, Spooner, to the team who is asexual, but I haven't watched that so I don't want to speak on its quality in portraying an asexual character.

Those are the only explicitly stated to be asexual DC characters that I can remember right now but there some indie comics that have ace characters, like Archie, Sleepless and Lumberjanes

i have a lot of Pilot gel pens and they're pretty good but lately i've also really been liking Micron ink pens because they don't smear when you write over them with water-based marker, sooo.... new fave?

i'm not really sure i'd call it a crisis tbh. i spent my entire childhood and young teen years thinking sex sounded sort of unpleasant, then i heard the term "asexual" and thought, "oh yeah that's me". it took me longer to realize i was probably bi, and honestly i'm still not entirely sure i've ever had a proper crush on a girl, but i do think girls are really pretty and the thought of having a female partner isn't off-putting in the slightest.

Some of the writing in there is the best I've ever done, but I don't have any real love for the work. It's good on paper, but I don't feel an emotional connection to it the same way I do coming out of my cage, what are you after, or even be kind and curious in all things.)

Or maybe you think it's the Doctor Who/Iron Man crossover I've been writing for going on...what 7 years now? I love that fic, but it isn't my favourite. CANON RPS: it's been a hot minute since ive joined those because I cannot stand tumblr roleplays and jcink sites take a lot of brainspace to keep going. Same with fandom rps. I used to be in those Marauders rps, but the cattiness and competition and always talking about who plays James Potter better gets on my nerves, to the point where I just....indie that shit instead. It's easier that way. As for what kind of characters I play??? Love me a nice anti-hero or villain character. It started with the whole "im not like other roleplayers, i dont need to play good guys" to now me just....really liking giving everyone a redemption arc!

I decided to give I Am Not Starfire a chance and... frankly I personally didn't like it that much. I don't hate it, but I'm also probably never going to reread it. I'm going to make this semi-review/reaction as fair as I can. Also these are just my opinions, so if you disagree with them just take them with a grain of salt and move on.

So one red flag that DID get obliterated was Mandy's last name being Koriand'r. It's, thankfully, just Anders. Not sure if this was changed mid production due to backlash or if the ad makers just screwed it up, but whatever.

Just 11 pages in (4 of which are the cover and credits) Mandy is already slutshaming her own mother for the way she dresses. /sarcasm/ Great way to get you to like the character. /sarcasm/

Starfire has an absolutely hideously drawn thigh gap in her introduction page.

Just about the only thing the comic does right in depicting teenagers is Mandy and her friend Lincoln, who both seem dedicated to being edgelords, incorrectly labeling themselves anarchists despite being the typical anti-establishment type teen. I knew and do know a lot of teens who act like this. Any other attempts to write teens here are, frankly, cringe worthy.

This Starfire is clearly based on her 2003 counterpart, which seems odd because this book is marketed towards teens, and that show aired and ended in 2006. For context, I'm 24 now, and that show would have ended when I was about 9. I'm just barely a Gen z. Most people who are actually teens right now would primarily associate this Starfire's characterization with the TT Go! spinoff... which I believe has the target audience of 4-7 year olds. It just seems like a weird decision to not go with her comic personality in this context.

The narrative very directly tries to compare the conflict between Star and Mandy as being similar to that of immigrant parents and their children... which I guess is there, but the story itself doesn't do much with that premise. Unfortunate, as I feel more focus on that could have actually made the story interesting.

Mandy is an extremely toxic person, as she's one of those "I'm not like other girls" characters, and that makes her very hard for me to sympathize with.

I've seen defenders go "Of course she's toxic she's a teenager" but like... the narrative clearly wants us to sympathize with her, but her behaviour at certain points makes that extremely difficult. She's mean to literally everyone other than Lincoln, often for no reason whatsoever.

Just about the only thing that I'm able to sympathize with her is some of her classmates harassing her about the Titans, and the fat phobic comments she gets. However, that can only justify her behaviour to a certain extent.

The sad thing is I WANT to like Mandy, as it's rare to get fat lesbians (or fat wlw in general) in media but she's just so... ugh, at points. She's also fairly generic in terms of female YA protagonists. I feel like I've seen her a million times, with the only difference being she's not straight.

Her completely blowing up over a selfie that Claire took is stupid. She doesn't even bother to explain why it upsets her, she just yells at this poor girl and storms off. Claire is then the one to be made to apologize, despite Mandy's blatant over reaction and unwillingness to communicate.

The way the story uses Gen z stereotypes to try to relate to its audience is the kind of thing I found extremely cringy when I was teenager. Judging from some reviews I've read written by actual teens, the feeling seems to be present here for the target audience to at least some extent.

(Think how 90s cartoons and teen sitcoms had an overabundance of skateboarding and rap to try and be "cool with the kids." Yeah, it's like that but with social media and boba tea).

"It's not fun, it's hamlet" is an actually legitimately funny line imo.

Also her bird is cute.

Honestly, one of the only genuinly positive things I can say about this is that I like the overall art style.

For some reason Blackfire decides to attempt to kill Kori and Mandy at her school instead of taking them to Tamaran? Petty queen, ig.

Blackfire is extremely underutilized. She spends the majority of the comic spying on Mandy before the big fight.

Mandy, at the very least acknowledges she was a shitty daughter towards the end, and seems to be making attempts to be less so in the epilogue.

Her new superhero costume is lame tbh. It's just typical goth clothes with bracelets and a tiara.

Still kind of annoyed that Claire had to apologize over a selfie and that Mandy's over reaction wasn't really called out.

Other than the selfie thing, Mandy's crush on Claire is cute.

So basically, not nearly as terrible as I was worried it was going to be, but it's otherwise pretty standard YA that doesn't do much new aside from being connected with DC Comics. If you're into that kind of thing, it'll be a pretty standard read but otherwise not super remarkable imo.

So let's say it's that - the glowing baby was the "first quirk" but the truth is people had powers before that. But - well, the Umbrella Academy was obviously a marketing gimmick to those in the future! There were even comics based on them

In the future, you might find some of those comics in museum exhibits dedicated to depictions of powers in the pre-quirk era, but they're just fun depictions and much less popular than, oh, DC or MCU comics which are also in the exhibits!

End of s2 doesn't happen I guess in this au?? No sparrow academy at least lmao. So, the Umbrella Academy stop the apocalypse (again) and the Commission threat is? Neutralized? Whatever. They decide to jump back to the future

Five warns them that time travel is a crapshoot, that he has no fucking idea when they'll land beyond some nebulous "future" because Five can at least control the direction if not exactly how long

Also, Five is like. Super tired. Incredibly tired. Homeboy still has a healing gut wound, time traveled twice, has been jumping all over the place, gotten even more injured, experienced paradox psychosis, and managed to undo time all in the space of like, two weeks. There actually more than that but we don't have time to get into how fucking tired Five is from his ~Month of Hell

Like genuinely this is like putting someone almost delirious from lack of sleep in the driver's seat of a car and expecting to get to your destination in one piece

But hey, the siblings are like "do it uwu" and Five has sacrificed everything for them already so why not get behind the wheel again

So Five jumps them, and of course something goes wrong because Five has pushed his powers like a great big rubber band and honestly it was only a matter of time before he lost his grip and it snapped back to hit him

Let's handwave a little bit - Reginald made them all polyglots so the squad all speak varying levels of Japanese. Allison is the best at it, Five is second best but tends to use more archaic words bc he had missions in Japan back when he was with the commission, and Klaus is third best.

(Ben is the worst bc he decided when he was 16-and-dead that he didn't have to do anything regarding lessons and maintenance and hasn't given a shit since - but also he's dead so)

So you have a bunch of weird adults with a bleeding child in like, an alley who have appeared from nowhere

so of course heroes get involved

Anyway, the squad get taken in and Five is conscious but like, barely? And he's not going to let himself get separated from his siblings again fuck-you-officer and there is a lot of confusion

"I'm an adult." Five says sourly, "I just happened to be returned to my 13 year old body when I time traveled one time."

five has a pavlovian reaction to anything with 'commission' in the name and hates them on site, probably plays into his age in order to become a ward of UA or something to protect him from the commission a little bit.

(this makes nedzu Five's legal guardian. aizawa has his resignation papers all prepped in a drawer marked 'in case of emergency' but let's be real, if nedzu wants to take over the world aizawa should probably be on the rat-bear's side of things :/)

i feel like as time goes by, five brings up trying to get home less and less. part of that is because like,,, genuinely what do they have to go back to?? Allison has Claire, but like. I'm 100% sure the first thing she did in the future was try track down Claire's records and found out Claire was like. fine. became an adult, had a family, probably became the ancestor of the first "quirked" kids who officially popped up after light baby. had a good life, died at an old age etc. etc.

anything devon grayson does tbh like dealing with dicks stress over murder and guilt or him being romani (Tho him not knowing is dumb). it was so bad and racist ugh. other than that I think the spyral and ric grayson arcs coulda been good if they were like, combined maybe? and shorter. lmao

also the current robin 2021 run tbh... i think the idea of a tournment and damian grappling with guilt could be fun but the writer cares waaaaaay too much about his ocs to give damian real breathing room

speaking of damian: teen titans 2016 coulda been SO fun if they werent so racist and wanting to make damian a bad guy for caring about immigrants and people of colour lol. i rly loved what few good moments he had with wally, emiko, jackson, and the others.

34. Which retcon do you hate the most?

for DC, four come to mind:

>Parallax isn't Hal Jordans fault

so if u dont know hal jordan back in the 90s broke down after his city was destroyed by doomsday and he lost many loved ones. as a result he went full on villain (parallax) and ended up destroying most of the green lantern corps and caused the zero hour event

he then was killed and later came back as the hero spectre, basically being a ghost hero and trying to atone for his actions he did in the lowest point of his life

anyways later on geoff johns got the reins and revived Hal and said it wasn't hal's fult at all, he was just possessed by an evil space bug made of fear, the real Parallax.

aaaand i hate that. I hate taking away Hals role in everything and making him a victim. I dont mind the other retcons Geoff Johns did to GL lore--hell i prefer it because he really fleshed things out and added the other colours and explained the weakness to yellow even!--but I think it all could have been done without stripping Hal of any wrong doings or guilt. Its rly lame.

He had a few friends, knew the titans, and was well liked by his family.

too many stories stress his violence and impulsiveness and make him out to be a bad person with at least trying to explore why he is that way and sympathsize with him.

not only that but the treating of his death as inevitable or his fault or anything like that frustrates me so fucking much bc the weight of death in the family, of its aftermath and a lonely place of dying, of under the red hood, really hinges on the fact that jasons death was a tragedy, one that shook Bruce like no other. because he lost his child who he loved!!!!!
