Olivia would have the entire island cleaned up, always keeping it tidy and built a nice cute village. Named it after Redstonia

Axel doesn't really clean the place up. But he does decorate it a bit. Placed traps everywhere. Has fun messing with his villagers. Named it after Boomtown

Petra did all the achievement things. She's now going around different islands and also trying to clean up her island a bit since.. she barely touched it. Plays around with 'my desgin' a lot

Lukas somehow managed to make all his residents cat villagers. He likes taking pictures and going to different islands.

The Insomniacs & Minecraft

Max is a zookeeper, she spends most of her time collecting as many mobs as she can and building over the top builds to contain her collection, and like spacious enclosures too not just little jail cells

Emil is the only Insomniac member that will touch hardcore mode but even then it’s not often. The creepy mods don’t scare them as badly as they scare other members of the club so they’ll meddle in survival mode more than the others will. Emil has yet to defeat the Ender Dragon tho 😔

Nova is a hardcore redstoner. She’s seen a crap ton of tutorials and she uses her redstone skills to build massive farms and really cool builds. She does cheat sometimes by going into creative on her survival worlds

Jayden mostly just watches SMPs and streams but when he does play he’ll usually play on peaceful mode as he has a habit of dying in game really quickly, like actually seconds. He does think caving is really cool and torments Jan by sending him pictures of minecraft spiders

-fyodor would only want to do speedruns or hardcore— he finds minecraft so boring without the challenge. he doesn't care about speedrun.net that much because, if he really wanted to be at the top of that list, he could probably bribe and hack his way in pretty easily. definitely the one out of the three who plays the most (total epic gamer). sometimes (usually because nikolai asks him to) fyodor will hack servers and cause chaos for a little bit before he gets banned (for, like, the 300th time). probably knows how to make super complicated redstone shit but he hardly ever does. favorite biomes: plains, deserts, warped forests

-nikolai causes destruction everywhere he goes. when playing on servers hes a griefer, and when he plays alone/with his friends he just tortures every mob imaginable. prefers to play in creative, and will fly/glide around exploding stuff. he sets villages on fire and watches all the villagers scream and run around in pain and then laughs really loud about it. makes pits of animals that are so densely packed they start dying. he also stretches the game to its limit, spawning in so much stuff that it completely glitches out. the kinda guy to make a huge wolf army also. can entertain himself with this for a little while, but eventually he gets bored and goes to do something else. favorite biomes: coral reefs, nether wastelands, plains

-sigma never plays, but sometimes fyodor and nikolai are playing and he thinks it might be fun. definitely the "what's (insert basic minecraft thing)" to fyodor's "you dont know (insert basic minecraft thing)??????" never got the game explained to him (fyodor and nikolai both immediately ran off to do their own thing) and kept dying over and over. everyone got annoyed at him asking "how do i sprint?" "guys wait why cant i get over this (jump)" "whats this weird green thing why is it hissing at me" "how do i craft an axe" etc. eventually he figured it out and became a builder, every time they played making really cute little houses. always has at least two dogs and one cat that he cares for a lot. probably builds a farm but then gets too attached to the animals to actually kill them. prefers to have long lasting saves in easy mode that he'll build cooler and cooler builds on. eventually tries to recreate the sky casino. uses aesthetic shaders and always has really nice looking skins. favorite biomes: lush caves, flower forests, taiga.

If a ghost wanted to ‘live in Minecraft’, their lair and aesthetic could be Minecraft. Think Max Brooks’ Minecraft: The Island. Said Minecraft ghost would appear like a Minecraft skin, even outside of their lair and would only able to cycle through certain emotions. They would also treat real objects like blocks or items in the game… and it would work. They’d need to punch/break stuff to acquire it, and would have a fully working inventory. Also hunger which is not great. They would be able to respawn back in their lair and craft armor so they could potentially be kind of powerful actually-

While incredibly cursed, they would be relatively harmless, and only come through portals to check for updates.

(Also the ghosts do play Minecraft. This ask has made my headcanon that all of Danny’s casual enemies have a Minecraft server that they all play on its the most chaotic shit ever. The server is modded to hell and back so they aren’t bound to plebeian non-dead Minecraft player rules. Technus is admin, because he would not play otherwise. He doesn’t actually do anything with this: Entirely unhelpful creative mode server God boi™. Tucker is the only actual staff because Skulker didn’t want to be in charge of maintaining the server once he found someone good enough at game stuff to take over. Tucker hates this but also can’t bring himself to just NOT do it. Ember learns Redstone specifically so she can make music in Minecraft also. She also has every disc on the server. Not just loot. She steals any discs anyone else gets and has them all. Pointdexter also knows redstone; he is worse at it than Ember, he just uses his skills to do actual things where she doesn’t. Kitty and Danny are the only ones that just play the game normally. Danny also patches the creeper holes like a Saint. Johnny fucks with everyone’s builds when he’s bored; this is the only reason he comes online. Sam has beaten all the ghosts at pvp, a lot of them at the same time; she is just that skilled. Lunch lady is there too, dedicating all her time online to killing and cooking every animal she comes across. On the one hand, she keeps the entire server fed, on the other hand she destroys all the farms and no one can have an edible pet or it WILL die. Skulker collects money heads, and it’s actually really impressive. He’s killed the Ender dragon a figmillion times; he just keeps respawning it for fun. Youngblood makes a tonne of ugly builds and lava casts, because pretty servers can’t exist with people like these. On that note, Box ghost is also whitelisted. No one knows how, but he keeps logging on and building dirt shacks. Dani plays also, because Danny gave her the IP address. She comes online to talk to Danny instead of calling or texting him with the phone she absolutely has. Valerie also has access to the server via ‘Phantom’. This was not a good decision. She destroys all of Danny’s stuff specifically. She griefs everyone, because ghosts, but mostly just blows up whatever Danny is making. She doesn’t come on often and it never occurs to them to just ban her- Dora and Klemperer also get to be on the server. This is good for them, they are just having a good times. Vlad is not allowed on the server, because he is a fruitloop and no one wants that. How do all the ghosts get their computer? Theft of course! And lots of it! This is fine.)

It's important to look deeply at the near-death experiences that the series has had in order to understand how it has grown, why it has changed the way that it did, and the reasoning behind some of the decisions that the members continue to make to this day. In looking at history we also find the answers to some of the greatest mysteries of the series, as well as some of the most frequently asked and vaguely answered questions. With that in mind:

What Really Killed Hermitcraft Season 1?

Episode 1: Death of a Bachelor

If you ask Xisuma why the first season ended, he will say in no uncertain terms that it was the loss of their founder and leader GenerikB. And he's right.

GB's final episode of Hermitcraft aired on April 20, 2013; the same date as Jessassin's, though that seems to have been pure coincidence. In it he states that he is leaving because while he is still in love with the game, the vanilla version just..wasn't doing it for him anymore. He was done with that world, ready for something fresh and exciting to be added, and to him that meant mods. To this day, he still plays modded Minecraft over on Twitch! But after he left Hermitcraft, he never really went back to vanilla. More importantly, he also implies that while the server may go on in his absence, he finds it unlikely to continue long term-true to his prediction, the series floundered without direction for another month before Xisuma uploaded his final video on June 2 of that year. Hermitcraft officially died with the disappearance of its namesake.

Here's where we look deeper, because while GB's departure may have been the straw that broke the camel's back it was by no means the only reason the season ended. Just digging deeper into each of his reasons for leaving, we can see the storm brewing as far back as November of the previous year.

Episode 2: The Call of Cthulhu

What happened in November, you ask? Modded Minecraft happened. More specifically, the extremely popular modpack Feed the Beast was released beta at that time, and the Hermits at large wasted zero time in getting in on the action. There was within a month a dedicated "Hermitcraft Feed the Beast" server, from which a few hermits were added to the vanilla counterpart retroactively: Juicetra and Skyzm among them. Other members included Hypno, Topmass, DMAC, and of course GB...FTB quickly consumed the working lives of the Hermits; it was the first experience many of them had with a real modpack, and it introduced mechanics they could only dream about having in the survival game (like flying, for instance). Content on the vanilla server began to slow down. It didn't help that none of the hermits were full time creators in 2013-their time was limited, and when they were able to spend it doing the things they wanted to do that ended up being FTB. Some members such as DMAC promised more vanilla content once the craze was over, but the "craze" never stopped and he ended up going full months without putting out vanilla episodes. The FTB server had its own issues and ended up dying of technical problems and rollbacks later down the line, but it alone played a massive part first in boosting Hermitcraft Vanilla, then slowly choking it to death.

But there is one more unsung murderer when it comes to the grave demise of Hermitcraft Season 1: the game itself.

Episode 3: If I Die Young

When Dinnerbone joined Hermitcraft in summer 2012, he requested that they begin to update through snapshots instead of waiting for full releases-presumably so that he could use them as a test server. The decision to honor his suggestion, however, was a divisive one. Some members jumped on the opportunity! GB and Red3yz in particular were beyond excited to test everything from new terrain generation to redstone mechanics. Others like Xisuma and Biffa were more cautious, preferring to wait until the game was ready to play in a way that would be fulfilling to them. Still others-Joe Hills among them-were excited at first...then fell quickly into the opposite camp when half of their house spontaneously went missing and occasionally they couldn't craft anything with the wooden planks. The snapshots proved to be glitchy as all hell and an administrative nightmare, creating little but endless stress for GB on admin duty and Hypno in the world edit repair department. But they stuck with it! Hermitcraft continued to update through every single snapshot from 1.3 until 1.5, each new week bringing a new set of uncertainties and challenges to overcome. For a group of creators that were already fatigued with vanilla and focused on something more interesting, it's easy to see how this kind of thing would force a divide between them and the server...nobody wants to create content on a game that's unnecessarily difficult on a good day.

Of course, there were other little things that drove the Hermits away from its original phase. A big one for GB that goes unmentioned was definitely the state of his base: the original that he spent nearly a year building was burnt to the ground during the conflict with TEA and redone in creative mode by Topmass and the Pimp my Minecraft team. Not only did this cause controversy among the fans like you wouldn't believe, it left little for him to do in the world where his own creations were largely gone altogether. Other Hermits like Jess ran out of inspiration or burned out in a more typical fashion.

Thus in June of 2013, just over a year after its original inception, Hermitcraft died.

On the third day it rose again, dragged by the ears near single-handedly out of the grave by the person with the most determination to see it succeed. A new era began of rebuilding on a solid foundation, with dignity intact and lessons learned, a stronger brand, a clear distinction, and no snapshots. Eventually, they would have a new leader. But these things will all take time.

Hermitcraft beta was doomed by being built on sand instead of rock. It was strangled by the game itself, a victim of circumstance and false promises and opportunity. It died and came back stronger. And once every year or two, it feels the need to do so again.

im sorry but the hold Levi and Minecraft have on me needs to be studied by doctors and taught as a cautionary tale in universities or something idk why it makes me so giddy. anyways-

-levi’s the type to play really long sessions of Minecraft all at once before never touching the game again for like months at a time. He’s hardcore invested in one sitting but after awhile other games call for his attention, and it’s usually the level grinding dungeon types (doesn’t mean he still doesn’t adore the peace getting lost in his silly little block world brings)

-obviously he’s decked out in the strongest armor and weapons, he knows all about potion making and he’s a wiz with using redstone 🙄 we get it you game

-he ‘beat’ the game a very long time ago, but he mostly just likes the familiar routine of mining and creating and doing this and that. he doesn’t own that many worlds honestly, he’s dedicated to having a few survival worlds and just one or two for creative mode to build things.

-He’d only ever make a new world if he wanted to play with a new group of ppl and start fresh. Building a little community where everyone still sort of does their own thing is fun that way. Or it would be if he could get more of his brothers to play with him

-Leviathan used to play a ton with Mammon before Mammon started annoying him in-game too much hfkfdkfd

-it was always little things like always asking for his extra tools and never replenishing the supplies later, or Mammon would crash at his house all the time or constantly lead mobs to Levi’s place. (he used to step on Levi’s crops for awhile too on accident)

“S’not my fault that damn creeper blew my place up.” Mammon says matter-of-factly. “Just go make a new bed.” Levi groans tiredly. “I gave you wool awhile back.” “Yea! And then I died! And you went an turned off the keep-items-after-death option. So what the hell else am I s’posed to do!” Levi can practically hear Mammon shrugging. ”But it’s not a true gaming experience if you don’t have a complete shutdown after mining and mining and mining for nearly hours and end up getting a ton of super rare supplies, only to meet your ultimately fate by getting accidentally killed by a mob. Or falling off a deep pit into a chasm of lava on accident, or dying in the stupidest way possible and losing every single thing you own and immediately feeling like you want to break everything.” Levi quickly spouts off. There’s silence on the other line for awhile before Mammon quietly says. “Y’know what... maybe you should take a break.” (Mammon also ended up selling his own personal computer for extra money once so he just *does not* play things at all anymore. Hand games like card and checkers are more his thing, but anyways that left Levi without a minecraft buddy unless he wanted to play with online friends)

-Levi tried to recruit Barbatos to play since they used to play games here and there sometimes but Barbatos absolutely refused. The butler more or less said something that hinted at him thinking the game seemed a bit too silly for his own personal tastes and Levi only begged him 4 more times to play with him before completely dropping it

-Levi tried to recruit Lucifer as a last option but it was just so ridiculous seeing his little block avatar in game and trying to instruct him that he couldn't go through with it anymore. They agreed to never speak of it afterwards

-He introduced the game to Diavolo one day, but playing with the Young Prince is so rare that he has to completely reintroduce the controls and the mechanics of the game e v e r y single time they can finally arrange something.

Not only that but he has to juggle having the Prince on call at the same time, and it is absolutely terrible trying to explain controls over call. Levi’s much better at showing Dia in person what needs to be pressed.

Diavolo follows him around aimlessly for most of it, just enjoying the graphics and being amused at the block-like animals. He vaguely wonders if they can arrange for some creatures from the Devildom to be put into the game. it does not work like that but Levi mentions that he can probably mod Cerberus into the game. all the coding talk is lost on Diavolo but he’s happy nonetheless!

-Levi probably has the highest speedrun record in the Devildom when it comes to this game... *cough cough* loser *cough*

The seven(+nico and reyna) playing minecraft

Percy: has been playing since it came out in 2012, he can't build for the life of him but knows how to do stuff. He always gets so excited when the new updates come out and his friends laugh at him because they got minecraft in 2016, they don't get it.

"Guys oh my gosh it's a glow squid, I've never seen anything more beautiful in my life."

Annabeth: is definitely the builder, give her and hour and she has a whole city with elaborate houses and everything built. She definitely makes houses for all her friends

Piper: shes the friend that doesn't know how to build, and her specialty is gardening and mining. Shes also definetly one of the people who only eats like bread and potatoes because she can't bring herself to eat the meat on there.

Jason: he has like an army of dogs, chickens or both. He will just come to his house with a new pet every time he leaves his house. His favorites are parrots and he has like 7 of them. Leo and Piper end up making him make a pen outside of the house for the animals because he has way too many and they get in the way. He would also be the last one to go to sleep and accidentally make it so everyone has to wait through the night.

"Guys can't I just get one more cat, the village is right there?"

"Jason no!"

Leo: he has all these intense redstone contraptions. He uses almost all of these to prank his friends or lock them.out of his base, but he lets Piper sometimes get around them. Him and Piper always team up and bully Jason because his reactions are the best.

Nico: he usually is the miner of the group and definelty goes off with like 6 pieces of bread and a sword and comes back with a stack of diamonds. He also likes building and his builds are pretty cool, he and Annabeth usually work on builds together

Hazel: she is only allowed to play on creative mode with the mobs off because is she played on survival, she'd try to befriend a creeper and accidentally blow up the others bases/builds. She also likes to mine when she is allowed on survival mode, and is also pretty good at it.

Reyna: she usually likes to go on long expeditions to find things that she or the others need. Shes also the person who takes liek 6 baked potatoes and an iron sword and somehow have defeated the ender dragon and have gotten netherite(diamonds are better). She also has a pack of dogs at her side and mourns when she loses one.

Frank: he doesn't usually play minecraft, but when he does he builds a modest little house and usually just tags along with Hazel

osomatsu - switches constantly between creative, survival normal, and survival hard. new worlds each time ofc. mostly just kind of makes enough items to Explore The World and die multiple times before getting bored and dropping the game for a bit. in creative he likes to go around burning the trees or getting mega-gear and shredding bosses like the enderdragon and the wither. has definitely played with mods - crashed his computer once because he had on too many. it was pretty funny

karamatsu - is the only one who has beaten the game genuinely, on normal. he's not a big fan of hardmode (only survived 10 minutes) so he stuck with his original plan: beat the game on easy. it took a while since he got sidetracked with small projects (upgrading villages, setting up defenses for them, finding the best horse and giving it the best name of KaraHorse, etc etc etc). he did eventually kill the enderdragon (he was crying a little as he did) but yeah, he's the only one that actually "beat" the game.

choromatsu - orespawn mod. not necessarily just for girlfriends (it's mostly for the girlfriends) - he likes other parts of the mod, too! the bosses are pretty cool and add a new element to the game, and also it has frogs. who doesnt like frogs???

ichimatsu - in creative mode, constantly spawns cats. has an entire house dedicated to cats. in survival he does basic stuff but mostly cat collection + kill monsters. sometimes traps zombies to watch them burn in the sun or makes a lake of water that endermen cant teleport out of. has survived the longest on hardcore but mostly just likes the cats

jyushimatsu - creative mode redstone rollercoasters 100%. do they make any sense? no. does he spend forever on them? no. do they sometimes go all the way from build height to bedrock? ... no, but he does make a lot of long/fast drops down. will sometimes force mobs into them and has it going constantly so that he can join them

todomatsu - builds aesthetic houses that sometimes he wishes he could be in. ranges from cozy cottages to super-modern singles (garage and all). has never beaten the ender dragon. sometimes likes to just chill around one village and upgrade it and makes himself the mayor/president even though the villagers just vibe and do what they want lol

While I was trying to fall asleep, I kept thinking what type of Minecraft players are MHA characters (yes, I am that much of a degenerate):

Izuku

He is everything everytime and I think it figures, but, there's always a but, he has absolutely no talent or skill in building (Bakugou says he lives in a hole).

Gifted Katsuki an orange cat once and that's the only pet Katsuki ever had.

Denki

Denki is very good at exploring in the nether, but gets killed fairly easy (that's where he's friends come in) and can't get two animals in a hole to save his life.

Mining bores the life out of him, but goes mining in multiplayer if all of the people on the server go with him (which rarely ever happens because he somehow plays with Bakugou, no one knows how he gets him to play).

Bakugou

LOVES TNT

He mainly plays alone and is a very good fighter.

Builds houses that leave Izuku in awe(if you didn't already know Katsuki loves the praise).

Everytime he plays with anyone, he kills them when they try to sleep or when the player is usually not paying attention.

Except for Deku, he kills Deku whenever he feels like it.

He never does farming because he doesn't need it, while exploring he kills everything that brings him any kind of benefit.

Really enjoys killing parrots and dogs, when they were little he would do so and Deku would cry. He's kind of a sadist.

Has a very annoying obsession when it comes to coal, always has more than he needs and screams at anyone who tries to ask him for it.

Is a very patient miner.

Never sleeps through the night because he says he can get more resurses if he doesn't.

Katsuki colored the orange cat's collar green to remind him of Izuku and her name is Queen and he is very attached to it.

Kirishima

Is a pretty good fighter and likes to battle with Bakugou.

Helps Denki with those cows and sheeps.

Is the master of redstone, everyone asks him for help (including Bakugou though he doesn't like to admit it, he never had patience with redstone).

Never plays solo because he feels lonely doing so.

Loves helping Deku build.

Fights skeletons a lot because he thinks it's hard to beat them so he finds them like a challenge.

Sero

Goes mining with Denki for hours.

Is good with redstone, good enough to pull pranks, especially on Bakugou (one time he wanted revenge for being thrown in the lava by Bakugou and exploded his entire house with a pressure plate he stepped on that was near his enchanted table).

Doesn't have a house he lives in, just a bunch of chests and a bed next or into a cave.

Momo

Mostly plays on creative.

Has some absolutely gorgeous builds. No one can deny it.

If she doesn't play on creative, she is the most skilled in potion brewing.

Has a villager farm that everyone goes to because it has all types of villagers.

When playing on survival mode, she keeps track of anything she spends and consumes in a notebook.

Isn't good at fighting, gets help from Jirou or Izuku when it comes to beating the shit out of nights terrors (that's how she calls them)

Ochaco

Does everything with Asui.

Mines a lot and gets lost.

She's good at taking care of animals and building them places to live in.

Treasures her cats and dogs more than absolutely anything.

Eats only cooked patatoes.

Enjoys solo as much as multiplayer.

Jirou

When she plays solo, she likes playing music.

She likes playing with Denki because she likes teasing him (and because she enjoys his company but she's never gonna admit that out of the blue)

She explores and mines a lot.

Her skin is a rocker that she really likes and that was made by her.

Mina

All she ever does in this game is go on multiplayer to prank and steal, especially from the bakusquad.

She really hates mining and gardening, finding it boringly repetitive.

PVP with absolutely anyone no matter the time.

Forgets to eat and dies of hunger.

Tsuyu

Like doing the 'boringly repetitive' things. That's almost all she does.

Her skin is literally a frog.

Is nearly as good as Kirishima at redstone and helps Izuku with it.

Is the best when it comes to cheats and command blocks.

Her builds mostly contain quartz, gold, diamond, emerald and lots of cats

Clawdeen

Clawdeen mostly plays Minecraft for PVP and games.

In survival just runs off randomly to kill monsters and returns back to base three days later. 

Frankie

Frankie tries to help everyone in every task

She like doing organising of their supplies to keep things orderly

She makes task lists with signs for everyone’s projects

She adds signs to her friends works with messages like “good job! :)”

Lagoona

Lagoona likes the exploration aspects

She makes too, many maps

None of the gang knows where she is, she doesn't either

Frankie tries to go after her when she gets too lost but ends up dying. Draculaura then tries and spends the entire night in a hole

Deuce

Deuce would be the miner, mostly cuz he wants to make Cleo happy

But he also likes cave diving and trying to outsmart hostile mobs

He tames way too many wolves cuz he thinks they look cute, gets quietly sad when they die

Clawd would be in constant PVP because of Clawdeen

He never beats her

He asks Ghoulia to help him with enchantments to beat her but it never works
