i am going to kill everyone in this house and then myself HOLY FUCK
everytime im like 'yeah okay maybe bro 1 isnt THAT awful and we can have a single discussion that's not about anime without fighting' he pulls this shit
bro3, a young teen, asks a question about the new(ish) vacant house tax in the city, aiming to help pop the godawful housing bubble. IMMEDIATELY bro1 goes on a fuckin screaming rant about how the govt is evil and taxes are evil and literally quotes the ron swanson parks and rec sandwich bit yes the one DELIBERATELY EXAGGERATED AND SIMPLIFIED FOR COMEDY
and i, try, calmly to ask how he would like to fix things instead. he brings up a bunch of republican & libertatian states as 'havens' from tax. i ask how he would like public services to be funded. he replies that he doesn't want them funded. i ask why then he uses public services. he insists he doesnt, and 'as long as i have a job in the states i have healthcare'. ok. putting aside the obvious issues with workplace-tied insurance (which canada is not free from!! our health system is ALSO a shitshow. it is just MILDLY less so in some respects.) I ask about public infrastructure that he cannot avoid using, like ROADS. he yells and genuinely has a FIT. YELLING. like the apathetic guy who does not ever have emotions is fuckin YELLING at me about taxes. this man clearly has way too much fucking time online.
and THEN, i bring up the 'idk how to tell you we should care about other people' wrt public services that serve a greater good but that he might not necessarily use directly (education, libraries, childcare, senior care, social assistance, etc). and he straight up 'i dont care about other people. i dont care about strangers'. and bro 3 AGREES WITH HIM. this tiny baby child who i have practically raised as my own kid half the time and have tried SO HARD to impart a measure of kindness in this godawful house. agrees with him
and bro1 finishes it off with 'if someone has a second house, they deserve it' as if i didnt just finish explaining about social services and how rich people 99% of the time acquire wealth unethically and at the expense of the poor and how the wealth gap is only increasing and how yeah sure in an ideal world everyone would give freely, but as he literally just finished explaining to me while complaining about 'the liberals', people are corrupt and selfish, and so instituting things with widespread tax funded programs is going to help a lot more people than just oh let's hope these instinctively selfish rich people acquiring money thru unethical means take pity on the poors this year. like. we KNOW that doesnt work. my solution isn't perfect by any means but it passes on the slim margin of being NOT AS BAD AS IT CURRENTLY IS
i genuinely do NOT understand how anyone has so little disregard for the concept of a greater good, of societal health, of caring for people NOT yourself. how can he be SO selfish and yet still enjoy, and DEMAND, so much of the luxuries he enjoys in a developed country which historically and at present has profited off of various forms of exploitation!!! like!! bitch!!!!
not to be like im glad his 4yr relationship ended bc his gf deserves way better (for various reasons, not just his shitty politics, but this is pretty emblematic of his personality at large) + his friends are all shitty and terrible people and hes lowkey abusing alcohol and weed bc of them + he needs to get offline and go to a monastery for his health. but like. i AM saying that.

So I was talking about smoking with my brothers and my older brother just casually dropped that he likes to hit a bong BY HIMSELF like??? Who does that??? To me, bongs are only for parties/gatherings and I'd rather smoke a pipe anyway because bongs are a pain in the ass, from prepping them to hitting them. The man's incomprehensible.

My kind-of-therapist can be so annoying like I know that I'm beating myself up for no reason, I know that, but while there isn't any evidence to suggest I suck, there isn't anything to suggest I don't suck either. I know very clearly objectively that a classmate of mine at least had a crush on me. But when you think about it...if it was a prank, per say, it would be a pretty funny one, wouldn't it? Yes, maybe a bit cruel, but I did get immideatly addicted to the slightest bit of attention I got, and isn't it kind of funny in a sadistic way to watch someone absolutely deteriorate because you simply didn't interact with them? Isn't it really enjoyable to see that you can control someone's feelings that easily?

Some observations and reflections on Tommy Kinard's growth as a character:
• Although Tommy didn't give Hen the acknowledgment she deserved in the beginning of 'Hen Begins,' we see how he later personally appreciates her for being a great firefighter. (I also totally believe that one of the firefighters who anonymously complained to the department about Captain Gerrard's sexist/racist/homophobic mistreatment of Hen had to have been Tommy.)
• Tommy was also dismissive of Chimney at the beginning of 'Chimney Begins,' but he later started admiring Chimney's work and also expressed heartfelt gratitude to him for saving his life, becoming a reliable friend that Chimney could count on for help in future emergencies (twice so far).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, the way I see it, at first Tommy was a guy who was scared to question the status quo because he was secretly battling his own internal demons, but he slowly and gradually learnt to support and stand up for what was right and just. And this character development is so incredibly beautiful and significant, and deserves to be spoken more about!
It shows how people can sometimes have biases and misconceptions because of the environment in which they are raised, but by being open to unlearn and relearn is how they can grow and make more room for love, empathy, kindness, and positivity in their lives, and sometimes even find the path towards self-discovery. Tommy Kinard did just that, and when he let go of his biases towards others is when he finally became free of all the demons inside him, which is when he also started to love and accept himself for who he was, eventually gathering the courage to believe that maybe, there are good people out there who would support and love him for living in his reality and being the man he truly is. And look where that got him now! 🥰❤
Tommy Kinard, you are precious! ✨

Regarding Tommy (AKA Stop hating him for the “Begins” episodes)
So I’ve been seeing a TON of hate for Tommy specifically because of his behaviour in the ‘Begins’ episodes and how he “shouldn’t be forgiven” so I’m getting fed up and decided to to a TIMELINE of Tommy & why we don’t need to be spoon fed his ‘redemption’ because we saw it across 10-ish years of flashbacks in the Begins episodes and can learn to understand that some stuff can just be implied with storytelling rather than treating the audience like babies and spelling it out for them. I will be starting with his first chronological appearance NOT his first on-screen appearance.
Starting Approx. 2005-2006 2x12 “Chimney Begins” now I’m not sure exactly what dates the episode here but google tells me it’s set around here, If I’m wrong let me know.
This was the big episode of Tommy being an asshole, I will not deny he was an asshole. He was one of the primary assholes of this episode along with the old captain. Let’s look at this episode with what we know about Tommy now, not what we knew then.
Tommy was a closeted gay man in a male-led, white-led field (presumably gay, we haven’t had his label yet) working under a captain we know is Homophobic, Sexist, and Racist. He also was a white man in a white male field back in 2005, prejudice was still a huge thing in 2005 (and still is but we’re not here to talk about that) and this episode shows this well, because it had to fit with the ‘times’. Tommy was an aggressor to begin with Im not going to deny this, but do you know who was also there, standing by and watching the rest of the 118 treat Chimney like shit for MONTHS? Eli! Yes lovey Eli who eventually helped get Chim into the field and let him stay with him in Boston. Yes he ended up being a good guy, but that doesn’t excuse the months he spent staying quiet watching the 118 mistreat Chim. You’ll see this theme pop up again later, funnily enough. Eventually we see Tommy and Chim become civil, after Chimney saves his life. He goes on to befriend Chimney, telling him his favourite movie is Love Actually (that’s fruity) amongst other things.
Fast forward to somewhere between 2009-2010 2x09 “Hen Begins” aka the next time we see Tommy chronologically and the first time we meet him in the show. We know a rough timeline as Sal says his girlfriend took him to see the new Twilight movie, and they reference the Edward vs Jacob, which means it’s most likely New Moon or Eclipse as that was more heavily a marketing thing for those two than the first one. This is also the first time Tommy is implied to be gay (He doesn’t deny the accusation and instead jokes about kissing Sal/Chimney) Now at this point in time I know this probably was not planned, but is something to look back at.
Tommy is this episode steps back from being an aggressor, he is still working under Gerrard and still closeted. He is still a part of the problem, but other than being present in the episode and in the scenes where Sal and Gerrard acted as aggressors, he didn’t actually contribute verbally to the mistreatment of Hen. The primary aggressor for Hen was Gerrard and remained to be Gerrard throughout the episode even when her co-workers saw her doing good things. And going back to Eli in Chimneys episode, guess who was also a bystander to Hens mistreatment, filling a similar role to Hen that Eli filled? CHIMNEY. He stood back for also presumably months, didn’t defend Hen against their co-workers, and just let what happened to him happen to her. Then, at the end of the episode it’s revealed multiple members of her team submitted complaints against their captain for the mistreatment of Hen, I’m willing to bet that he was one of those people, him, Chim, and even potentially Sal as he was less of an ass by the end. By the end of her episode we know they are now friendly at work and he thinks she’s a good firefighter.
Skip forward to 2014-ish, 2x16 “Bobby Begins Again.” We immediately see the team meshing, Chim, Hen, Tommy, and even Sal. 9 Years have passed since he met Chimney, and 4-ish since Hen and it’s implied they’re a friendly unit, Tommy is still closeted, and has been working under a rotating number of captains (six to be exact), but has clearly become a better, and more accepting person, the world is changing and he isn’t being held back with the times. He goes out for drinks with Hen & Chimney, laughs with them, has an overall good time being their friend and seeming enjoying working under Bobby for another 4 years, we even see them smash his face into a cake at a surprise leaving party they’ve thrown him. We know Buck took his place at the 118 which was not long before S1 began, so we’re assuming he left the 118 2017/2018.
This is the last time we see Tommy until 7x03, presumably set in 2023/2024 “Capsized”, a whole canonical 16-18 years after we first meet him, and 6 years since he left the 118. In those 6 years we know he:
A) is still friendly with Chimney, we know from 2x14 when he phones him to drop the fire retardant on the house. He is also mentioned to still be in contact in 3x16
B) Has come out/discovered his sexuality.
C) Is obviously not bigoted, or at least as much as he was back in 2005-ish.
In terms of Hen we can assume they haven’t really stayed “friends” since Tommy left, as she states in Capsized that she forgot he worked there. She worked with him for 8-ish years, I’ve worked with people for that length of time and don’t talk to them now, doesn’t mean I hate them, we just don’t really have reason to talk anymore. I just think their friendship was more a “we’re work friends” kind of relationship rather than a “we’re in each other’s lives” one, which is a completely normal and valid relationship. Whereas with Chim we know they’ve remained at least acquaintances to chat, and friends enough that Tommy would risk both his life and job to save Bobby.
At this point in the timeline it’s been approximately CANONICALLY 16-18 years since we met Tommy, and the fandom is still asking for his character to be held accountable for things he said all those years ago, when clearly in the canon of the show has been forgiven. At this point in the show I really don’t think we need to be spoonfed this narrative, it would feel clunky and weird to see an apology on screen for something that’s clearly been addressed off screen. It would frankly be a waste of the limited airtime we have this season.
I also think it’s super important to remember that Tommy wasn’t planned that far in advance, we know he was bought back by Minear because he wanted the person who was part of Bucks coming out to be someone the audience had already met before & Lou was both available and willing to do it. If they had been planning this exact storyline since season 2, maybe Tommy would have been portrayed differently, who knows.
I get we love Buddie and we want Buddie so much, I am not and never will jump ship from Buddie, I love that Tommy is Bucks first boyfriend, I just hope Eddie gets to be his last.
I’m also super glad we’re getting Bucks coming out separately from Eddies potential future coming out, I am on the (seemingly) small majority that thinks that would have been way too much to happen all at once, and also the characters deserve to have their own coming out stories not to be lumped together.
so yeah. TLDR; Tommy has evolved over 16-18 years, 10 years of which we saw across the Begins episodes, and if we want to be spoonfed his accountability for his behaviour in the begins episode, we should also be asking the same from Eli and Chim.

umm. pause. guys. guys. gay tommy has been canon this entire time. what the fuck. like. oh my god. no. like. okay. okay. so. 2x9 (hen begins), sal [deluca] is talking about his girlfriend dragging him to see twilight. he makes a homophobic joke about tommy being team jacob and tommy's like "i don't even know what that means." chimney says "he's insinuating that you're gay" and tommy blows deluca a kiss. fine. whatever. but THEN you skip to 2x12 (chimney begins), and—i stg it's a blink and you miss it moment—tommy and gerrard (racist captain) are having this conversation in the background
tommy: what about that burger place? gerrard: tommy i hate that place. hey wasn't your girlfriend supposed to come and cook us dinner? tommy: uhh. next tuesday. gerrard: promise? tommy: uhh. uh. yes. yeah. i will promise.
and it's like. number one, this sounds like a conversation they've had before. something to the tune of "hey, how come you never bring your girlfriend around" which i can't help but think was intentional considering the members of the old 118 were entirely familiar with deluca's girlfriend gina. but number two, no straight man who has a girlfriend sounds that unsure that they have a fucking girlfriend. it was very much giving "ah yes. this human lady that i love that most definitely exists. absolutely. also i like breasts." and it's just like. ok. what the fuck. like. i don't know if this was the plan all along. i don't think it was. i still maintain buck/eddie were supposed to go canon after the shooting and the powers that be got in the way. but. but. the idea that this canon queer character has been hiding in plain sight (subtext) is just. wild to me. like. i've always headcanoned tommy as gay, mostly because every character he plays seems fruity as hell. but bro. i don't think it's a headcanon anymore. and i don't think it ever has been. what the fuck.
there's also the idea that. like. so i've been watching the begins episodes again trying to figure out what, exactly, tommy's crime against the members of the 118 has been. like. he worked in a -phobic/-cist environment. he was definitely complicit in making hen/chimney feel like outsiders in their workplace yes yes all these things are true. but as far as i can tell, tommy has rarely ever actively been anything except spineless. deluca makes a homophobic joke? tommy laughs. gerrard makes a bunch of sexist and racist comments? tommy looks, but doesn't say anything to encourage (or discourage him). hen gives her monologue? he looks chagrined.
and his complicity would be absolutely shitty and inexcusable if he was just a cishet white man. no questions asked. but if — if — you view his behavior through the lens of the fact that tommy is queer himself? that tommy is, and always has been, a member of a marginalized community who felt it was easier and safer to assimilate than it was to be openly queer and have a target on his back? his behavior becomes a whole hell of a lot more understandable. yes, it's still shitty, but. there's a purpose behind it. and this idea is supported by the fact that, when gerrard leaves (flashing forward to bobby begins again), even before bobby gets there (because we always credit bobby with making the 118 the family it is today), like. the atmosphere is completely different. tommy and hen? are friendly with each other. chimney and tommy? also friendly with each other. which we also know because in 2x14 broken, he calls him up for help. which lends credibility to the idea that the problems tommy had (or thought he had) with henchim were not about them as people but more about whatever manufactured conservative boys club bullshit gerrard fostered.
and it's just like. motherfucker. bitch. what the hell. like. first of all, leave it to 9-1-1 to tell a story like this in the most subtle way possible. like if that was indeed the intended implication, i'm throwing my tv off a bridge immediately. but also. second of all. what is wrong with this show. they're crazy. i want to eat it like a loaf of bread. just shovel it in my mouth because the idea that tommy has been queer all along, that he wasn't brought back just to be a stopgap on buck's queer journey to eddie, but that he's been haunting the edges of the narrative like a gay ghost is sooo like. ohhh. okay. [throws up]. like????? okay. anyway. i'm going to be thinking about this the rest of the day.

You know... on that Hellhound thing. Considering Adam hasn't lived in hell for an extended period, he probably wouldn't have the same inter-rank prejudices against Hellhounds and Imps other Hellborn and more ingrained sinners possess.
Which is a weird thing to say about Adam of all people.
I guess it'd be more accurate to say: all demons are equal in how much they suck compared to him and the denizens of heaven.
But it could easily result in Adam being the confused party on that tiktok Audio with the guy who's just kidnapped a whole ass man and adopted him as a dog. Here have a link to a video where that's not the dynamic but it gets my point across, and if you haven't seen it already I think you'll like it: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTL8mTswV/
Adam: "So where's this dog I keep hearing so much about?" Succubus Coworker: "Oh, he's right here!" Hellhound: Adam: "...That's a grown ass man."
"Hell citizens suck, but all of them do so equally"
You know nonny this is funny cause I made this headcanon with my gf a while ago that, yeah Adam is all kinds of gross, he's rude, he's loud, he's sexist, homophobic, etc. The only thing he isn't is... racist LMFAO. He's like ??? what are you talking about, they're all my descendants and they all came from my nuts
ALSO OKAY. FUCK LOL. I JUST WATCHED THAT TIKTOK. THAT'S SO FUCKING FUNNY I LOVE THAT. BEST THING I'VE SEEN ALL DAY AAAAAAAAA

okay here's one post i have to make. Finally racism confirmed real in succession. other people have talked about this before but it is a huge blind spot of the show not to acknowledge the intersection between racism and capitalism, and the excuse that the characters are the 1% and the 1% are vastly white is pretty weak. the fact that the show sidelines its existing characters of color while every now and then broadly gesturing towards race makes this worse, especially as the show more directly focuses on fascism and just Doesn't bring race into it. like i don't even think race is totally absent as a concern of the writers but it's clearly not a priority. i think a lot about how mo's widow is a filipino woman
anyway. ken and rava's conversation in this sense doesn't really qualify as, like, revolutionary in terms of succession's commentary on race esp since it's a discussion between two white parents about their brown daughter without her present. the point of interest to me really is that kendall completely fails to recognize racism as a systemic issue, much less that he works for and is trying to sustain a company that actively works to perpetuate that hegemony. his questions are why was sophie on the street? why wasn't rava there? in the same episode where he calls matsson homophobic for saying the numbers are gay. socially aware king
it's not particularly revelatory to say that a rich white man doesn't grasp the concept of systemic racism LOL but i do think it's more than that for kendall, and i also think this trait is something his siblings don't share. it's like how he doesn't realize he's in a position of power over anna and she was pressured into attending the recny with him, and his adoption of a faux-feminist stance in s3 while continuing to treat women like shit. kendall's whole concept of Everything, including systemic social issues, goes back to logan. there's no system outside of dad. the doj doesn't find the cruises evidence compelling? that's because they're scared of logan. logan's the source of the evil in the world, therefore opposing him is inherently progressive, leaving kendall with even less of a coherent moral framework after his death. and he's completely unable to process the idea that he could be participating in and benefiting from the greater racist or sexist system, because that's fundamentally incompatible with his logan-based idea of his own identity.
i don't think roman or shiv or even connor share this particular nearsightedness. roman 'we do hate speech and roller coasters' roy knows what's going on but he doesn't really care and he doesn't believe it can be changed (or, maybe more accurately, that there's any point in trying). he doesn't buy into fascism on the ideological level, exactly, but the spectacle appeals to him and he does believe it's profitable to align with it, so he's perfectly happy to do so. i think he's the most similar to logan in this regard. and shiv and connor have actual political ideologies, even if they're far from being meaningfully opposed to fascism, which requires a base awareness of the fact that We Live In A Society and That Society Has Systems In It. for kendall it really boils down to logan and logan alone

Taylor only has one thing when it comes to the opressed olympic. It's the fact she is a woman. And swifties use that for any criticism against her.
" Oh you just hate succesful women."
She isn't black, She isn't gay trans etc.., She isn't disabled, She isn't poor, she isn't jewish, she isn't muslim, etc... etc...
Swifties also need to learn that a black man is not more privileged than a white woman. They seem to think that she is always more oppressed against any other man.
They could literally think that a homeless black man has more privilege than the billionaire white woman. All because he is a man.
🔔🔔🔔 Ding ding ding, we have a winner, folks! You hit the nail on the head.
Taylor Swift has weaponized her white woman tears and "oppression" to her own benefit, and this is exactly how.
None of her fans seems to ACTUALLY understand how oppression works, they just take the pretty little buzzwords that they think are synonymous with "I'm a good person who's right" and parrot them like a $2 children's toy (half the time while sending death threats and racist/homophobic slurs, which makes it even more ironic)
Taylor Swift is not oppressed. She's just not. Honestly, yes, even though she's a woman - and before any feral Swifties come at me, I AM a woman - she's not oppressed, and I'll tell you why.
"Billionare" overrides most (not all) other categories. As soon as you're a billionaire, nothing else matters, because you can buy your way into and out of anything. Combine that with the facade that the entire world worships her, and guess what? Nobody gives a shit that she's a woman. She's not oppressed because a few people she's never heard of make jokes about how much she sucks - she DOES suck, but those comments have zero impact on her life. She doesn't even know they exist. In Taylorland, everyone loves her no matter what she does - even if she's best friends with/dating bigots.
In order for someone to be oppressed, systematic situations have to negatively impact their life on a day to day basis. Disabled people can't get married without losing their disability income. LGBTQ+ people are still getting murdered in the street for just existing and having their right to healthcare taken away. People of a variety of ethnic minorities still get denied things like loans at a higher rate than white people. Women get denied promotions because they're not men.
None of these things will ever happen to Taylor Swift. She can quite literally pay to access a "perfect" world, because she gets to pay her way out of normal life.
If someone makes a sexist joke? She can have that person fired and hire someone else.
She can pay for as much private security as she wants, so being safe is literally never a concern.
She can pay for private travel (and kill the planet every ten minutes), she can pay for private staff to handle her every whim and worry.
Taylor Swift has effectively paid her way out of oppression, because she can simply use her power, her money, and her legion of feral fans to get whatever she wants.
Someone makes a joke she doesn't like? Clearly it's "oppression" and now that person is "canceled" at best, or getting doxxed and sent death threats at worst.
Taylor Swift isn't oppressed because she can pay to fix nearly any problem in her life, so her biggest "problem" is people not unquestioningly worshipping her 24/7, which is what she weaponizes.
And fans will still claim that she's more oppressed than a black disabled homeless man, because they don't understand oppression OR intersectionality - all the know is worship Taylor and harass.
