Ahhhhhhh😱 wtf!!! @historyofthebatman ・・・ Evening Gothamites! This afternoon, Sony Pictures released the first trailer for #Brightburn, directed by #DavidYarovesky and produced by #JamesGunn, the director of the MCU’s #GuardiansoftheGalaxy and #DCComics’ upcoming #SuicideSquad film within the #DCEU. A superhero horror film, Brightburn’s synopsis reads: “What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?” Sony’s newest film out in theaters next #MemorialDay weekend (May 24, 2019) begs the question of if a being, very similar in origin story and abilities to DC’s #Superman, could become an evil force on the world instead of a heroic figure for Earth. Fans are also comparing Brightburn aesthetically to Zack Snyder’s film #ManofSteel down to the font choices within the trailer. Considering there are several examples of Superman turning evil within comics, what are your thoughts on Gunn’s ‘Brightburn’, its main character’s similarities to the Man of Steel and the concept of evil “superheroes” on the big screen? Thanks for following and we will have more #Batman media and #HistoryoftheBatman soon!✌🏼💙🦇🎬 https://www.instagram.com/p/BrJzgr0hWQb/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1j79wjvyx73al

“The Battle Within: A History of the Injustice Universe” - Good vs Evil: Before NetherRealm Studios’ video game #InjusticeGodsAmongUs was released in April 2013, January 2013 the prequel tie-in #DCComics books were released first on digital then in physical copies. Written by #TomTaylor and illustrated by various artists, “#Injustice: Gods Among Us Year One” is a 36 chapter storyline (broken up into 12 physical comic issues, Jheremy Raapack cover to issue 2 presented) giving readers and future gamers a context as to how the current alternate timeline of Superman’s dictatorship happened. Five years ago, #Joker has rigged missiles to destroy Metropolis while kidnapping a pregnant #LoisLane and #Superman, #Batman and the #JusticeLeague attempt to stop the madman. When Superman finds Lois on an operating table thanks to Joker and #HarleyQuinn, he is confronted by Doomsday. The Man of Steel flies Doomsday out into space and pummels him so he doesn’t hurt anyone, but the tragic realization is, using Scarecrow’s fear toxin mixed with Kryptonite, Doomsday was an illusion and in reality, Superman brought Lois into space instead, instantly killing her. What’s worse is that Joker fixed Lois’ heart so when it stops beating, the missiles will be activated; Metropolis is blown up, sending the city and its people into automatic devastation (panel 2-3 by Mike Miller). As Batman is interrogating Joker in prison, an inconsolable Superman flies in and launches his entire arm through Joker’s chest, killing him. After taking a moment to examine his rage at the Fortress of Solitude, he ends up at the United Nations and announces to the world not only his true identity but his goal to irradiate crime and war once and for all. We will continue with Taylor’s Year One soon in our Injustice retrospect. ✌🏼💙🦇 #TheBatman #HistoryoftheBatman #CapedCrusader #TheDarkKnight #DarkKnight #BruceWayne #ComicBooks #Comics #InstaBatman

#RepostPlus @historyofthebatman - - - - - - Good afternoon Gothamites and wish #Batman a very Happy 80th #Birthday! Today, March 30th, marks the 80th anniversary of the #DarkKnight's first appearance debut in #DetectiveComics 27 from May 1939! Many have asked in the past why #DCComics recognizes Batman's birthday at the end of March and not in May. Due to the company's basing on the historical data from the Registrar of Copyrights, we celebrate March 30th instead of May because it was common practice in 1939 for publications to go on sale prior to their indicated cover date. Thus, while #theBatMan (as he was then known) first appeared in the May 1939 cover-dated issue of Detective Comics 27, that issue actually hit newsstands on March 30, 1939. This practice still applies today Gothamites! There's always history to learn about the Batman. Thanks for following and stay tuned for a look at Detective Comics 27 from 1939 and some #WonderCon media here on #HistoryoftheBatman! #HappyBirthdayBatman!✌🏼️💙💛🦇📖🎉 #CapedCrusader #DarkKnight #Batman80 #WCA2019 #BatmanArt #ComicArt #ComicBooks #Comics #BatmanFans #BatFans #InstaBatman #HappyBirthday #LongLiveTheBat https://www.instagram.com/p/BvpPWZJjMXg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1s1rppyi9tu4l

Prolific writer Alan Grant has passed away at the age of 73. His wife, Sue Grant, announced Alan passed this morning. #AlanGrant began his work in comics in 1967, when he became an editor for D.C. Thomson. He left in 1970 to work for IPC on romance magazines, but would become best known for his work with the character of #JudgeDredd with John Wagner in the pages of the science fiction series ‘2000 AD’ during the 1980s.
Beginning in 1988, Alan Grant along with John Wagner began writing for #DC Comics, with Grant beginning his legendary run on the #Batman character in Detective Comics #583; This issue introduced the Batman villains the #Ventriloquist & #Scarface in Grant and Wagner’s “Fever”. The following arc debuted The #Ratcatcher, recently seen in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” (2021), written by Grant and Wagner in Detective Comics #585.
Throughout the 1990s, Alan Grant would help shape the evolving Batman mythos in several publications, including developing #TimDrake into the 3rd #Robin in ‘Batman’ arcs such as “Identity Crisis” with #NormBreyfogle and Steve Mitchell. Grant’s runs in ‘#DetectiveComics’ to ‘Batman: Shadow of the Bat’ are some of the most memorable, including his introductions of Jeremiah Arkham, Victor #Zsasz, and Amygdala in the arc “The Last #Arkham”.
As Grant contributed to classic Batman storylines such as “Knightfall”, "Contagion", "Legacy", and "Cataclysm", he also co-created along with Breyfogle the Batman universe character #Anarky, mirroring his own personal, philosophical transformation within the era, and penned the graphic novel inter-company crossover series ‘Batman / Judge Dredd’. Writing for publications such as #DCComics, Marvel Comics, and Dark Horse Comics, Grant would continue to work over the next two decades.
Alan Grant’s dominating presence within the comics world, enhanced by the wit and humanity that permeated in his tales, has and will continue to be one of the most influential for fans and colleagues alike. He will be greatly missed, but he timeless work will always be cherished. Rest In Peace. [Art by Norm Breyfogle and Carlos Badilla, 2011’s DC Retroactive: Batman – The '90s #1]✌🏽🤍🦇🙏🏽
