Something Like Sin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Older!Farmhand! Abby x perv!farmers daughter R
CONTAINS: rough draft for a fic idea I had. MDNI. Religious guilt, impure thoughts, short.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She does it on purpose. You swear she does.
The lift of her shirt to swipe sweat from her forehead. Being sure you’re in her line of sight while she works. The small touches when passing by.
How could one woman weaken your resolve so much?
How, after a long day of doing nothing but giving your wet dreams more fuel, could she step into the main house and “report back”?
Listing everything she took care of—
That wobbly fence your belt loop always seemed to catch on. The left tire on your daddy’s truck that made that god-awful squeak when started in the early morning.
Everything but the small flicker of amusement she’d get when she caught your stare—or even just felt it.
The grumbling of your father’s “Sounds good, thanks again, Abbigail,” seeming more frequent than before.
Didn’t she fix that fence last week?
The only relief was writing it out.
The dark green journal that stayed tucked in the back pocket of worn jeans. Pages of thoughts, frustrations, fantasies.
And hidden in the back pages— Not passwords to the Wi-Fi, or the lockbox— Your feelings. The real ones. About her. Starting innocently from last summer, when she filled in for her father.
Jerry did honest work. Only lived a few roads down—he was the first person you called when things went belly-up. But he’s older now. Knees don’t work as well. So naturally, she came.
Quiet. Worked quickly. Efficient. Good hands are always welcome on the hundreds of acres your family owned.
Months of torture.
Farmhands came and went—but not her. She—Abbigail—always came back.
In your dreams.
And in the back pages of that journal.

June 5th, 2025
“She said she liked the top I was wearing last night. The one I swore I’d never wear again because of how tight it felt across my chest. But her eyes—they lingered. Just for a second. Long enough to make me feel bare. I didn’t sleep after that.”
Tumblr media
God, you prayed she never read that one. But what was a girl like you calling on Him for? Impurities like that didn’t deserve His protection.
Sinners only thrive when hidden in the comfort of shadows.
When the sun greets the sky, the mask takes its place— In the form of the farmer’s daughter.
She made supper every evening, brought water to those helping hands, leaned into her daddy’s kisses on the forehead.
So busy being the golden girl, you—so worn—you didn’t notice that your back pocket was empty as you entered the house. Sleeping peacefully in your mattress. Farm dog Gracie barking occasionally when cars passed in the distance.
All while the green spine cracked open—
By fingers that didn’t hold the pen that stained the pages. With an ease, nothing rushed—like it had been done millions of times.
The pages flipped until their heart’s content.
Those same eyes watched you the next morning, messy hair falling as you lifted from your bed. In full view of the bay window warming the room.
The new day dances around you. Smiles and “you’re welcome”s, as usual. Until a voice sent panic striking through you like lightning.
“Not doodling in those pages of yours this mornin’?” your father said as you reached the bottom of the stairs, still slightly sleep-ridden.
No caffeine could wake someone faster. Your hand flew to your pockets. Eyes widening as the words stuck in your throat.
Where is it? Why didn’t I double-check last night? Did someone else find it? Your mind raced.
“Oh sweetheart, relax—you probably left it in your room,” your mother called out from the kitchen
Before they could say another word, the screen door flew open. Your boots crunched the gravel, bolting for the barn. You’d been there last night, writing to your heart’s content. Dreams of the future. Leaving the fields behind one day. Sending postcards to Momma with different cities attached.
But those weren’t the ones you were worried about.
A heaving chest and shaky fingers reached for the rusted latch. Greeted by moos, and Gracie sleeping near the ladder. Eyes searched the wooden floors, hands and knees warming as you looked.
And looked.
Where the hell is it? The furrow in your eyebrow deepened as did the pit in your stomach.
“You alright?” a voice called out a few feet away.
Your body jerked, a small gasp leaving you. Not expecting anyone else to be here. So early anyhow. Slowly lifting your head, trailing up the woman who almost seemed to have appeared.
Heavy boots, dark-washed jeans. That thick brown belt, silver buckle. A white beater lifted just enough to see that blonde happy trail that made your thighs squeeze together.
“Jesus, you scared me—yeah, I’m alright.”
You glanced to the woman with a quirked eyebrow at your position. Realizing how ridiculous you must’ve looked, you pushed to your feet. Hands dusting off your knees.
“Good morning, Ms. Anderson.” You stood slightly awkwardly, with a small head nod.
“I always tell you that just Abby is fine.” She smiled. “But good mornin’” The silence stretched out. Abby cleared her throat and spoke once more. “What are you looking for… in here?”
“Nothing, I just… thought I lost something in here. And now that I’ve checked… I’ll be on my way.” You gave a small smile, shifting to turn on your heels. Unable to hold that eye contact any longer.
“You sure?” “Because I found this—“ short fingers grazed something as she turned, reaching behind her. “on the floor.”
There it was. Thank God. Maybe He was listening.
“Oh! Thank you—little squirrel brain of mine sometimes.” A joke you forced out.
She huffed at the attempt and hummed “Don’t mention it.”
Your fingers brushed as you went to take it from her. Your heart rammed against your ribs. Pausing when she lifted it again slightly like she’d changed her mind. Eyes flickered to her face, meeting hers. Your hand now left with nothing as she teased it backwards. Only you heard her say—
“The way she moves—like she knows time will wait for her.” You froze. Your breath caught. Abby only tilted her head “That’s pretty, y’know? Like poetry.”
Oh, how sweet, you thought. Yet, Your heart pounded louder. How far did she read?
“Thank you…It’s nothing really. Just something I do when I’m bored.” You barely managed the words. They sounded distant, hollow in your mouth—like they belonged to someone else. Your hand closed around the journal like a secret you couldn’t bury fast enough. And then you turned. Quick. Too quick. Boots scraping against the barn floor. already vowing to be more careful next time.
That was a close one. Just leave, get this book of sin from her. Wanting to throw lighter fluid on it even. However, before you could make your escape she continued, the words burning in the light—
“Her eyes lingered. Just for a second. Long enough to make me feel bare.” Then with a small chuckle “That’s the line, ain’t it?”
Her silky voice cut through the air behind you, amusement wrapped around every word. You stopped cold. Turned slowly. “Didn’t sleep after that, huh?”
“What—what did you—” you stammered. “Oh lord—I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean for you to read—”
She cut you off with a soft laugh, stepping closer. “It’s alright, really”
“That’s a filthy little thought for a girl who says good morning like a church bell.” Her eyes flicked to the journal still clutched in your guilty hands.
“What else keeps you up at night, sweetheart?”

Your hands; mine (Stalker Remus AU) part 7
PART 1 | | PREVIOUS PART
It’s past three in the morning when Sirius falls asleep again. Not a conscious choice - he drifts off half way through telling Remus about the dataset he’s been working on at the office. It’s about marketing correlations, he said. Might as well use you as a sound board. Since you’re here.
When Remus asked who his typical listening stand-in was, Sirius said a pink rubber duck. Remus still isn’t sure if it was a joke or not.
Remus doesn’t feel the need to keep track of Sirius’ pulse this time. The worst of it seems to be behind them. Watching the steady rise-fall of Sirius’ chest where it moves with each breath is enough. Instead, he makes another cup of tea and doesn’t drink it, getting distracted instead by looking for the Wi-Fi password. He’s running very low on data. Needs to conserve it. He finds the router neatly tucked away inside of the telly cabinet. The password is written on a little laminated card next to it. The wires are all organised and secured with cable ties. It makes something inside Remus’ brain itch with pleasure.
He’s forcing himself away from Bing. Away from looking up things like
How long for a body to decompose?
When to file a missing persons report?
How to find filed missing persons reports?
He knows, despite how little sense this technology makes to him, that that’s the first step of being discovered. He’s seen Law and Order.
The local news has nothing on it about stocky men, missing or otherwise deceased. Remus refreshes the page and checks multiple websites. Then BBC, but that’s all big news about the world. He closes that quick. There’s nothing good ever to be read on BBC. The New York Times at least has crosswords, and Sudoku, and other things to occupy the mind. The BBC has death and suffering, and increasingly bad grammar.
He raids the telly cabinet again and finds a pen and some papers. He might as well work, he reasons. He can do that while counting the number of breaths per minute.
Remus has rendered countless dogs in glass, of countless breeds, but none of them does he dislike working on as much as he does pugs. It’s almost impossible not to make them look cartoonishly disfigured, with their bulging eyes and sticky-outy tongues. There’s always something so vacant in the reference photos he gets. No thoughts happening in the little brains.
He tries anyway, yet again. Sketches the dog's strange flat face over and over, until the page is filled with its likeness. Until he understands a little bit more - this is how its ear bends, this is the spot of different colour on its fur. This eye is a little more slanted than the other but it makes the dog look unnatural in the drawing.
Most of the time, owners don’t notice the peculiar uglinesses of their own dogs. They see only their cute little family-completing pet. So Remus takes liberties. Fixes up the uneven eyes and the snaggletooth.
On the sofa, Sirius sleeps easily. He turns around once to lay down on his stomach, the movement clumsy with sleep but somehow still the most graceful thing Remus has ever been granted the privilege of witnessing. That stab of want curses through him again, sharp as a new razor blade. He tells himself it’s just hunger, and grabs the sandwich he made for lunch.
It's gotten a bit squished in the pocket of his coat. The strawberry jam ripples out the side when Remus unwraps the cling film. It dribbles right onto the orange wool of his sweater vest. He likes this sweater vest - likes normal sweaters more, but it’s too warm to wear one this time of the year. He hopes the stain will come off and goes to the kitchen to dab at it with some tap water.
That seems to make it worse. The stain spreads, the wicking of the material makes the discolouration spread.
Might be a job for Remus’ Tide To Go stain remover pen. He loves his stain remover pen. It gets ample use. He’s regretting not having an emergency one to carry on his person and thinks of adding a second one to the shopping list, before he remembers he spent his allotted grocery money on a couple milkshakes and a kebab.
He doesn’t regret it. He got to feed Sirius. Maybe not by cooking, but he did provide. Sirius said he was hungry and Remus made food appear, and it was good enough to relieve the discomfort.
Remus eats half of his sandwich. The other half he puts away, wraps it back up in clingfilm and sticks it into his coat pocket. He tells himself he’ll have it for breakfast. By then, it might no longer grow in his mouth with each mastication.
On the sofa, Sirius stirs. It’s six in the morning. He opens his eyes slowly, like a cat blinking out its love at its favourite owner. Cat comparisons don’t work with Sirius, Remus thinks. There’s more of a canine to him. Brash and loyal and fierce.
On the sofa, Sirius stirs. Opens his eyes slowly, like a dog content at its favourite spot, blinking out into the world, stretching into a spot of warmth.
He looks at Remus. “Good morning,” he says. “You’re still here,” he says.
He doesn’t seem mad about it.

Unexpected Guest
Hi, @professorducc, I'm your Secret Santa for @mlsecretsanta. Here's my gift to you, the story Unexpected Guest.
Marinette didn’t understand what was happening, and most importantly why. It wasn’t unusual when Lila was involved, but this time it was far more than usual. “Why?” she asked to the brunette now helping her pack. “You’re going to be a guest, and that means for the time being you’re basically family I can have dirty thoughts about.” Lila replied. “Simple as that.” “Yes, but-dirty thoughts?!” “In case nobody told you, you’re hot. An annoying santarellina that doesn’t know how to pick her battles, but a hot one.” “If that’s your idea of flirting, it’s not working.” Marinette replied, telling herself the heat she was feeling in her cheeks was from embarrassment. “And I mean why you’re taking me in while-while…” “That’s my mother’s idea. I guess it paints the embassy better, the consul helping the granddaughter of an Italian citizen in her time of need. And for what is worth, I hope your parents recover and someone finds that driver and feeds them their own license.” That was the problem. Her parents had been hospitalized after being hit by a car, and with Nonna Gina being around the world and her grandfather legally inelegible due what he called “the stupidest thing I ever did” Lila’s mother, the consul and acting head of the Italian embassy until Papillon was dealt with and the French government came back with the ambassadors and the nuclear codes, had stepped in, taken over guardianship for the time being, and was having her move at her home on the other side of Place des Vosges.
  “This is the guest room, and here the current Wi-Fi codes and how to get through the security jamming. Once you’ve used them throw the paper in the incinerator chute.” Lila said after showing the rest of the apartment to her new roommate and handing her the passwords for the week. “If you need any help, you only have to ask.” “The what chute?” Marinette asked. Of course, she had no idea how diplomats’ family lived. “Welcome to the world of diplomacy, full of secrets to be kept through lies, deception, and even destruction at times. It’s one absurd world, to the point I have no idea if my mother was joking when she told me of the Japanese “troubleshooter”, if you get what I mean, that poses as a diplomat and always wears a plushie rabbit mask – though if I actually see him, I’m leaving before he starts weaponizing macarons and firing lasers from the eyes.” Marinette was bewildered. Good, the phantomatic Usagi-sensei would keep her mind off the event long enough to get Alya her security clearance and get inspected to visit her friend.
  “You had to get a security clearance?!” Marinette asked her best friend once she arrived. “Yeah… Fingerprints, a background check… And then they checked me and the package as if we were suspicious at an American airport, only they didn’t assume I was guilty until proven otherwise.” Alya confirmed. “They even complimented me for the brand of bug detector.” “Just… Let’s use it, I’m not trusting Lila until I verified she hasn’t bugged the room.” Turned out Lila had bugged the room. As in she had put a single bedbug-shaped listening device on the desk, near its receiver and a note saying “Satisfied?”. “What is she planning?” Marinette wondered. “Maybe nothing? I mean, she’s actually doing what she said she’d do.” Alya pointed out. “And if she had bad intentions, she’d have already stolen the Box. Marinette had no counter to that. Maybe she was actually being sincere. She could even ask her what her grandfather’s problem was, if the security was like that then it was likely on file.
  “Sorry, what?” “Your grandfather got arrested with a fascist group that was preparing a coup over EU membership.” Lila explained, having seen too much weird stuff like that to bat an eye at what she had just read. “Apparently it was more a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time so he got a suspended sentence, but he still followed a friend there and thought what they said made sense to him until they started talking of armed action and it made rethink his life. Still better than my great-granduncle.” Lila didn’t really want to share that, but Marinette was a guest and someone she admired and she wasn’t letting her in the dumps for her grandfather having been an idiot. “What did he do?” Marinette asked, taking the bait. “Officially? Nothing, he was just the podestà of Brescello until 1945. But if you read between the lines, you’ll get why right after the war the town’s archpriest and the local Communist leader ran him out of town. But I hope you aren’t assuming that person’s actions decide who I am, just like Roland Dupain’s idiocy doesn’t decide who you are.” Marinette could read between the lines. Her expressions made clear she didn’t know what a podestà was in context, but an archpriest and a Communist leader running someone out of town back then said more than enough. And her guest got the message. That was enough for Lila, who grabbed her copy of one of the old spirit cultivation texts Chloè found, hoping that her study would help her in her attempt to settle the score with Ladybug.
  Marinette had thought to stalk Lila. She had been acting weird, and with everything that had happened in their past she decided to find what her cute host was up to. She had not been expecting to track her and Chloè to a catacomb right on the city’s Dragon Vein (or ley line, as they were called by Western mysticists) – and tapping into it with a Wellspring. A place perfect for all types of Spirit Cultivation, to the point that if she had access to this “La Plage”, as they had named the catacomb, she’d have broken through and obtained unrestricted use of a Miraculous months ago. Still, she first had to ask one thing: “Where’s Sabrina?” “Certainly not in a section of the Catacombs closed to the public.” replied Chloè. “You think I’d bring the daughter of an archer here?” Right, stupid question. “What does archery have to do with this?” Lila asked. “That’s what we call our cops.” Chloè answered before turning to Marinette. “As for you, what are you doing here?” “I… I was just curious, Lila acted so weird and-” “Ugh! Don’t tell me that Andrè’s orange and green ice cream was actually a sign!” “No!” came the denial, with Marinette wondering why she felt her cheeks heating up just as she looked for something, ANYTHING to distract the blonde and the (pleased?! Seriously?!) Italian. Wait. The Wellspring! “By the way-“ “Don’t change topic.” Lila interrupted. “I’ve heard about the ice cream, but it seems there’s more about it than I thought.” “That can wait, Dupain-Cheng’s distractions are always useful.” Chloè pointed out. “I take you were talking of the Odic Magnet?” Marinette would later learn her scream of horror started a new legend about the Catacombs. “You went by a biomagnetism design?!” she whispered in horror. “So?” Marinette didn’t answer. She just pulled her phone (somehow that area had excellent reception) and called Big Sister Fei. She was the single best Cultivation expert Marinette knew of, and she wasn’t going to let the two accidentally give themselves the same kind of imbalanced qi-induced insanity that by now Paris’ favorite terrorist had to be in the grip of.
  Lila didn’t like being in debt. That was why she had resolved to find a way to repay Marinette for saving her sanity and possibly soul. And while normally she’d be happy for a chance, this was just too weird. “Ch’hai detto?” Lila asked, slipping in her native Romanesco dialect from the surprise. Luckily, it was very close to standard Italian and her interlocutor was fluent in that. “I said, this is the perfect chance to deal with Marinette Dupain-Cheng.” Gabriel repeated. “She’s weak and vulnerable, and you are in the perfect position to insure she won’t recover.” “With all due respect” that is none at all “she’s become inoffensive. Wouldn’t be more practical to make her an ally?” “I’m not taking risks. Finish her off. Frame her for theft, or something. Make sure she won’t have the ability to corrupt Adrien, your job depends on it.” “Very well. I know what to do.”
  Marinette couldn’t believe what she was hearing in Lila’s recording. Neither could Adrien. “How did you record this? Father has a jammer in his atelier.” he pointed out. “Tape recorder, too primitive to be affected.” Lila replied. Her recorder did look weird… But if Gabriel was doing this – “And before you ask, he’s got nothing to do with the crash, mom checked.” “Now what?!” Marinette shouted. “If he hates me, he will-“ “He will un cazzo.” Lila hissed as she put her hand on Marinette’s. Something she found oddly comforting. “This isn’t about planning a counterattack, it’s about planning how to deal with the aftermath once the Caramba have Carambed him.” “What?” Adrien asked. Marinette, on the other hand, understood Italian slang enough to realize what would happen. Though she wondered if it was legal. Then Lila’s phone signaled it had received something. And once she looked it, she laughed Volpina’s laugh. “Well, they Carambed him faster than expected.” she said as she forwarded the message. “Did you know I have Ladybug’s number?” Marinette knew, she had given it right after Chamele-oh. Oh, no. “Marinette, why are your earrings flashing?” Lila asked.
“So, let’s resume everything.” Lila said once the consequences of the Carabinieri detachment of the embassy putting Agreste Manor under full surveillance and catching a charged Akuma coming out had unfolded. “Gabby was Le Papillon, his minion Mayura, and they started hunting the Miraculous down to revive Adrien’s mom after she got nearly killed by a broken Miraculous and it didn’t dawn on them they could just Akumatize Adrien, who’s also Chat Noir and a Sentimonster because in his own words “adoption is for peasants”, with the right powers to do the job rather than alter the fabric of the universe. Something we’ve proven is possible by giving the Butterfly Miraculous to this Socqueline so that she could have you heal your parents and then have Adrien heal the minion and his mom – who the police are currently holding for questioning about a few weird incidents.” “Yes.” Marinette confirmed, her face indecifrable. “You are also Ladybug, and the whole reason of the initial accident is that back then Adrien’s involvement in anything made you lose more braincells than Alya did back then when Ladybug was involved.” “Yes.” “You have some explaining to do. Seriously, why did YOU wear such a plain” and sexy “costume?! I thought you couldn’t possibly be Ladybug because you have a fashion sense, and she obviously didn’t!” Marinette’s face showed her relief. The fool. She had only a few days before she got back home, and Lila was going to tease the everliving everything out of her new romantic target friend while she could. She didn’t know what the future held, but it was clearly brighter than either of them expected.
Author notes
There’s an Easter egg in this story. Yes, I did what I did. No, I’m not telling you what I did. But if you got it you’re probably laughing your ass off. Lately I got interested in the Spirit Cultivation genre, that draws heavily on Daoism… And as it happens, the show in general and the Chinese Miraculous Box in particular are easily tied to it, allowing me to actually fill the gigantic plot holes of Lila and Chloè’s character arcs: in the effort to get the power to survive the perceived threats they Cultivated themselves into villainy, with Chloè becoming more selfish and Lila getting so engrossed in her lies she thought it was a good idea to create multiple fake identities (and achieving the magical bullshitting power to convince two women she’s their daughter). I also had fun getting in some Vitalist idea to connect.

UBUNTU TOUCH | DAY ONE
If you didn't see one of my previous posts, I've got a phone to experiment with, and I'm gonna be trying out various mobile operating systems! (Primarily linux based! Not that android isn't linux but lets be real.) please ignore my greasy ugly hand Installation Process: The installation actually wasn't that bad! Was kinda awkward trying to get the phone updated to the correct version without upgrading too far, but after that was dealt with everything else was taken care of very smoothly and easily with the UB Ports custom installer! Didn't have a fail state, nor did the phone brick! I'd rate this an 8/10! Setup and Tutorial: Setting up the phone after the install was very fast, frankly there wasn't much to set up. Thankfully it's not like Google or Apple where they ask for your firstborn son before even asking for your SIM card. Just needed to set up a password/passcode, set up my SIM (Which was thankfully automatic kinda, details later) and confirm a Wi-Fi connection if I wanted to!) Tutorial however, was a bit lackluster. While it was descriptive, it also only popped up on my first time seeing each screen. (E.g. I didn't get the tutorial for the phone app until I opened the phone app.) While I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, it also means I would need to walk through every inbuilt app to make sure the tutorials are all done. kinda annoying in my personal opinion. Overall I'd rate this 6~7/10. Usage and Experience: For day one this isn't super important, however first impressions do matter for most people. The OS as a whole was very snappy, and never froze or lagged in any of my testing. Additionally, the pull-down shade is very nice! Could be simplified a little more so that you don't need to scroll sideways, and it would also be nice to see more settings overall since the system seems to be quite bare for settings at the moment. However one of the things that really bothers me as a button-enjoyer is the OS not having a button navigation method. The only way to navigate between screens is to swipe from the sides, top or bottom as gestures, similar to Apple and the recent Android iterations. These gestures don't even work perfectly either, which makes it more annoying that I don't have a home button or back button. If there is a home-swipe or back-swipe, then the tutorial did not detail it, and I cannot find it anywhere in the settings. Overall, it's a 4/10 but with LOTS of potential! Functionality: This focus' almost entirely on how it functions as a phone, and if it's problematic for any reason. So far it seems great outside of one issue, as commented on earlier (This is the details later bit lmao). Plugged an active SIM card into the phone and it automatically logged the APN and other important information which was very nice. Tested the mobile data and texting, and found no issues except for maybe being unable to send MMS (Need to double check that it was not a file size issue.) However, this entire time I've not had the ability to make or take calls. I'm not sure why, the APN, provider, and everything in the settings is correct to what I can tell. I may attempt to either reinstall the dialer application, or erase and manually set the APN in the event that might fix it. If I cannot get calling to work this score will look a lot uglier. Overall, it's a 7~8/10! for now.
App Availability: Seems great! The built in app-store, or "OpenStore" is pretty cool, and seems to have a lot of useful apps. I did notice a small fraction of android apps that I could use (Like Slack, thanks workplace -ﻌ-) but they were just WebUI apps, which isn't bad, but it's bad. I haven't attempted to set up or use Waydroid, but I will not have that change the score at all since using Android apps (kinda barely) defeats the purpose of an alternative operating system. Overall score, 8/10, but needs a deeper dive.
I'll likely put out another update at either 15 days or 30 days!
Whenever you guys think you want one!

how to connect to wi-fi services in pokemon gen 4 (DPPT/HGSS)
it's still possible to access the wi-fi services of the gen 4 games after the official shutdown of nintendo's wii/ds wi-fi in 2013 due to fan efforts by changing your DNS settings in-game - this is called the DNS exploit. this is popularly used in gen 5 which really has no complications, but in gen 4 it's a bit more complicated because the games are So old that they can't connect to the internet through modern routers due to fancy modern internet encryption. the connection either needs to have no password, or have WEP encryption, which most modern routers do not support. i had some people asking me how to do this so here's a post lol
first, it should be noted i use the pkmnclassic service, and i think you should too. this gives you access to old mystery gifts as well as pretty much every other wi-fi feature. their website also allows you to view pokemon currently uploaded to either gen 4 or 5's GTS through your browser. once you get your wi-fi set up properly, connecting to the internet will be easy, but that setup comes first. below i am going to list all the options i am currently aware of and able to explain
option 1 - phone hotspot (easy/convenient, doesn't work for every type of phone)
some phone hotspots are able to use old WEP type encryption, or be password-less. if you have access to a phone hotspot, it's worth taking off the password if it lets you and trying to connect to the gen 4 wi-fi with it before trying any other method, since if it works it's super convenient, just turn on the hotspot any time you want to do something online in gen 4 and turn it back off when you're done. unfortunately this depends on the type of phone and what OS its on and i don't have a list of what phones or OSes are compatible, so good luck lol. mine personally is not, and i have a fully updated iphone
option 2 - guest wi-fi (a little less convenient but still easy if you have access to router settings)
in the same vein as phone hotspots, guest wi-fi hotspots can also work, and this is what i personally use myself. the catch is you have to have access to your router settings, so if you're a young person using a parents' router without access to those or some other situation like that, you may have to ask for assistance every time you want to turn this on/off, which could be a dealbreaker for some unfortunately. but if you're able to do that, simply make your guest wi-fi password-less and turn it on when you want to connect to gen 4 wi-fi and turn it back off when you're done. since these settings pages are so different per internet provider, i can't really give a guide on how to do that here, though mine through verizon fios is pretty straightforward. some guest wi-fi may not work for this but i think most should
Tumblr media
option 3 - use an old router that supports WEP encryption (probably inaccessible for most, but only has to be set up once and then you're done)
i've done this in the past but i had my dad's help with the process, i cannot walk you through buying an old router lol. but yes if you purchase an old router and set that up you can have password protected gen 4 wi-fi permanently
option 4 - save backup + emulation through melonds (works pretty much 100% of the time if you have a hacked 3DS and some sort of PC)
MelonDS is a really great DS emulator that you can find here for windows/linux/mac: https://melonds.kuribo64.net/downloads.php
the basic idea is that you can backup your save file/game with a hacked 3DS using Checkpoint or TWLSaveTool (outside the scope of this guide but this is easy to do and you can walk through the steps here) and then run it through melonds, which can bypass all this WEP/encryption hell for you and simply connect to the internet. of course this is not very convenient if you have to constantly back up your saves to do wi-fi stuff but it's better than nothing if you have no other option.
unfortunately setting up the wi-fi can be a pain, and you also need DS BIOS files to run everything properly, which i cannot provide myself for legal reasons but they uh... aren't that hard to find lol, and you can back them up from an actual DS if you have access to the necessary tools for that.
if you use a windows PC, feel free to use my version of melonds which already has all the wifi shit set up, you'll just need to provide your own bios files under emu settings (it's a bit old but it works great for this purpose): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DQotaqFuBwXz1KYdQWiwxghtn3faLgj-/view?usp=sharing
edit: just found out right after posting this that the most recent version of melonds might work out the box without having to do any particular wi-fi setup? so feel free to try it instead of my version if you like
Tumblr media
if you are using linux/mac or don't want to use my version, you'll have to use the melonDS FAQ/google to figure it out, i'm sorry!
by the way yes, this means even if you don't have a gen 4 cart and solely play over emulator, you can trade/battle/etc with people who are playing on DS - they connect to the same servers!
okay and NOW once you have one of those options set up, you can actually connect to wi-fi in game by doing the following:
(these screencaps are from my capture card, i am doing this on an actual DS, but you can also do this with melonds if you're using that option)
Tumblr media
step 1: navigate to "NINTENDO WFC SETTINGS" in the menu where you press continue on your save file, in-game. in gen 4 you need to do it here and not in your DS settings.
Tumblr media
step 2: tap "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings" and pick any of the three connections here to start the set-up. if you already have some here, i'd click "erase settings" underneath to start from scratch.
Tumblr media
step 3: search for an access point and pick your desired access point from the list that comes up, and put in a password if needed (this assumes you have set up your wifi properly at this point)
Tumblr media
step 4: it will attempt a connection to the internet, and may or may not throw an error. regardless, the error doesn't really matter, you can just hit "OK" whether it's successful or not
Tumblr media
step 5: go back into your new connection (the box that previously said "None" should now say "Ready") and scroll down until you see the option "Auto-obtain DNS" - change this to "No"
Tumblr media
step 6: change the primary DNS to pkmnclassic's DNS, which is 178.62.43.212 - in layman's terms this will essentially let you connect to their servers instead of nintendo's, which are obviously down. as for the secondary DNS, either leave it at 0.0.0.0 or change it to the same DNS as the primary
Tumblr media
step 7: now would be a good time for a connection test. tap "Test Connection" in the top right. there should be a successful connection. assuming there is a successful connection, congrats! save your settings and enter your game as normal. you'll need to go to the basement of any pokemon center and pick up your pal pad, then try entering the wi-fi club (middle NPC at the counter) to test it in-game and get your friend code.
if there isn't, try a few more times or get closer to your access point - sometimes it's not you, the service can just occasionally be spotty. if you keep getting errors, you can use this site to look up what the error code might mean. if you still can't solve the issue, you may have to try a different method of connection as listed above.
sorry i couldn't be more in depth but frankly i'm not an expert on this stuff either, i'm just doing my best. there are a couple other options for doing this, like taking the password off your modern home wi-fi, or bridging your connection to an old laptop/computer, but the first is particularly dangerous so i didn't want to include it in the list and the second is completely out of my league, i just know people have done it before
good luck feel free to ask questions but no promises i'll have answers. if you need troubleshooting help i'd recommend pkmnclassic's discord over me, they have channels for that stuff (yes i hate troubleshooting stuff moving to discord and not forums as much as the rest of you but it can't be helped lol)

~Carmen’s Pov~
I woke up the next morning to someone shaking me and the sun shining directly in my face.
“What the fuck?” I grumble, covering my face with the pillow.
“Wake up.” Aaron pulls the pillow from my face. I squint when I see him in that bandana over his eyes and that stupid sweater he refuses to zip up.
“What time is it?” I yawn and sit up.
“Twelve.”
“Oh, shit.” I rub my eyes.
“I took the liberty of charging your phone for you.” He tosses it to me, but I’m still half asleep, so it hits me in the chest. I yelp, but he doesn’t react.
The doorbell rings, and Aaron heads to answer it. He gets halfway before turning back toward me. “The Wi-Fi password is on the fridge, since I know you’ll die without it.”
I roll my eyes and throw a pillow at him as he turns around and makes his way to the door. I sit there for a bit, contemplating my life choices, before getting up and making my way to the fridge.
As I’m putting in the Wi-Fi, I hear Aaron laughing with… a girl? Aaron? Laughing? If I hadn’t known him since childhood, I would’ve thought he was a robot. Talking to him is like talking to a rock. And even then, the rock would have more personality. I mean, I’ve known him for years, so I’ve seen every single emotion, but it’s rare for him to show emotions with other people. This person must be serious.
I peek from behind the wall and see him talking to a short girl with black hair, caramel eyes, and a galaxy shirt. I recognize her from Aaron’s high school pictures. I didn’t know they were that close. She must be his girlfriend… Maybe the shirtless thing actually works. Maybe I should try it…
I walk back to the couch and plop down on it. I put my hand over my mouth to yawn - and immediately regret it. My breath is not pretty. I get up and walk past Aaron and the girl to go upstairs. I don’t acknowledge them. I might’ve seemed like a bitch, but I just wasn’t in the mood to socialize. Maybe this is why I don’t have many friends…
Aaron never gave me a house tour, so I have to open every door to find the bathroom. Once I finally find it, I realize I don’t have a towel. I sigh and make my way downstairs.
I clear my throat. “Hi, sorry to interrupt. Aaron, where are the towels?”
Aaron turns to me, his cheeks slightly flushed. “Oh, under the sink.”
“Alright, thanks.” I turn to go back upstairs. I’m halfway up when the girl speaks.
“Hi, I’m Aphmau. What’s your name?”
I sigh and slowly turn. “Hi, Aphmau?” I look at her, hoping I pronounced it right. She nods, so I continue. “I’m Carmen. I’m Aaron’s friend. It’s nice to meet you.”
I hold out my hand, silently praying she can’t smell my breath. She shakes it, and then there’s an awkward silence. I clear my throat.
“Aaron never told me he had a girlfriend.” My cheek twitches up in a smirk as I nudge Aaron with my shoulder.
She blushes. “Oh, he isn’t- we aren’t-”
“She isn’t my girlfriend,” Aaron cuts in.
I stand there, blinking. “You guys aren’t dating?” Aphmau shakes her head.
“Really?”
Aphmau laughs. “No, we’re just friends.”
I look at both of them with squinted eyes. Aaron is purposely avoiding eye contact, as if I’d know what he’s thinking.
“Right… ‘Just friends.’ But-”
“Don’t you have a shower to get to?” Aaron growls.
I roll my eyes while Aphmau puts a hand over her mouth to laugh.
“Well, it was nice meeting you, Aphmau… I hope we can be friends.” I give her a hopeful smile.
“Of course!!”
My smile widens. I glance at Aaron, and he has a small, proud smile on his face. I say goodbye and head upstairs to shower.
~ Aphmau’s POV ~
Aaron turns to me after Carmen disappears up the stairs. “Sorry about that. She told me she needed a place to stay, so I offered.”
I smile. “It’s alright. She seems nice.” I pause to think. “How long have you guys known each other?”
Aaron pauses for a beat to think. “Our dads are really close friends. We’ve known each other since we were really young but lost contact after middle school. We reconnected about a year ago.”
“I see.” A thought crosses my mind, sending a slight pang of jealousy through my chest. Weird. “Do you guys have something going on between you two?”
I couldn’t see his reaction because of the bandana, but the way his eyebrows shot up told me the question caught him off guard. Instead of getting flustered, he looked… disgusted by even the thought of it.
“Absolutely not. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a good person. But she’s like a second sister to me.”
I nod, feeling a bit more relaxed. I don’t know why I care. Like I said, Aaron and I are just friends.
~ Carmen’s POV ~
I walk downstairs after finishing my shower and see Aaron and Aphmau still talking by the door. They’re so wrapped up in their conversation that they don’t even notice me walk past them. I decide not to interrupt and head straight to the couch.
As soon as I sit down, my phone pings. It’s a message from Florence.
Flo
Have you watched it?
Me
Watched what?
Flo
Frozen duhh???
Me
OMG, will you quit it with the Frozen stuff?
Flo
NEVER
It’s been forever since that movie came out and I can’t believe you still haven’t watched it!
Me
Calm down, it hasn’t been that long.
Plus, why are you so worked up about a KIDS’ movie?
Flo
That movie changed my life, okay.
Me
Fine 🙄
I’ll watch it now since I don’t have anything else to do.
Flo:
Yay! TYYY 😘
Me
🙄
I smile. I’m really going to miss seeing Flo every day. She’s one of the very few friends I have, and she’s helped me through so much - everything with my ex-friends, my parents, and my ex-boyfriend. It was pretty disappointing when I couldn’t move in with her, but I understood. With her girlfriend and the thousands of pets she’s adopted, there wouldn’t have been much space anyway. Besides, I wanted to get as far away from that city as possible.
I toss my phone onto the couch and reach over to grab the remote. After picking the movie, I lean back just as Aphmau and Aaron walk in.
“What are you doing?” Aaron asks, eyeing me, then the castle on the TV, then me again.
I shrug. “Frozen. Flo wanted me to watch it.”
“Well, can you watch it somewhere else? We want to hang out here, and we’re not staying if you’re watching that.”
The nerve of this guy. “Oh yeah, great idea. I’ll just watch it in my room - or better yet, my own house,” I say sarcastically.
Aaron rolls his eyes. “Just watch it another time-” He’s interrupted by a squeal. His shoulders tense as his head whips toward Aphmau, but they relax when he sees her smiling.
“Are you watching Frozen?!” she gasps before running to the couch and practically launching herself onto it next to me.
I nod, slightly concerned… and maybe a little scared.
“Can I watch it with you?!” she asks, her eyes wide and shining like she’s about to burst from excitement.
“You… want to watch it with me?” She nods enthusiastically. My cheek twitches up into a small smile. “Uh… sure, okay.”
“But Aph-” Aaron starts, but she shushes him before he can finish. He looks at me for backup, but I just shrug and smirk to taunt him. He growls and stalks off.
~~~
A couple of hours later, Aphmau leaves.
We talked for a while after the movie, and honestly, it was amazing. I really hope we become close friends. There’s a certain genuineness about her that makes me feel like I can trust her. But then that voice shows up again. ‘She doesn't actually like you. She's just tolerating you because of Aaron.’ I immediately push that voice down.
There are very few people I trust that aren't family, Flo, and Aaron, and that is because I've known them for years. I don’t usually trust new people so easily. They can stab you in the back when you least expect it. Trust me, I’ve been there.
~~~
I had walked into the apartment I shared with my boyfriend. It was our two-year anniversary, and I wanted to surprise him by coming home early.
The second I stepped inside, I knew something was off.
I heard voices coming from the bedroom... three of them. At first, I thought he just had some friends over, but then I heard moaning. My stomach twisted as I moved toward the door. I pushed it open and froze when I saw my boyfriend, Axel, having sex with two people I thought were my friends.
I blinked repeatedly, trying to convince myself this was just some nightmare, but it wasn’t. My mouth went dry, and it felt like all the air had been sucked out of my lungs. I stood there for what felt like forever before they finally noticed me and stopped.
Axel pulled away from them and walked toward me. When he reached me, I snapped back to reality. Without thinking, I pushed him away. I could see the two girls smirking behind him. I didn’t say a word. I just packed my bags for the night and left.
I wasn’t going to waste my breath on him. There was no point besides, I didn’t want to give those girls the satisfaction of seeing me cry.
I’ve never felt that kind of betrayal since high school.
I had met those girls a few months ago and trusted them far too easily. I thought I had finally found people I could rely on without the years of hesitation I usually had. Only to find out that they had only befriended me to get closer to my boyfriend and had been talking about me behind my back the entire time.
Since highschool I always had trouble making friends. However, this just made it even harder. That little voice in the back of my mind always whispered that, once they got what they wanted, they’d betray me too.
~~~
I head upstairs to brush my teeth. As I pass the room Aaron set up for me - all clean and ready - I start to feel a little guilty. He seemed excited to hang out with Aphmau - who he definitely has a thing for - and I kind of stole her away from him.
I glance toward Aaron’s room and see the light still on.
I walk over and give the door a light knock.
“Come in,” I hear his deep voice say.
I push the door open and see him sitting on his bed without his bandana. “Hi,” I say softly.
“Hello.”
There’s a small silence between us. After a couple of beats, I finally break it. “Listen… I’m sorry if I ‘hogged’ Aphmau. I just got excited that someone genuinely wanted to hang out with me - without wanting anything else. And… thanks for setting up the room for me.”
He stares at me for a moment without saying anything, which makes my anxiety spike a little. But then he chuckles and pats the empty spot on the bed in front of him.
“It’s alright. You don’t need to apologize. It’s good that you’re making friends. I know how hard it is for you to open up to people. I’m proud of you.”
I smile, but my expression turns serious again. “But… you seemed upset earlier. I don’t want any bad blood between us, especially if I’m going to stay here forever.”
His face softens. “Trust me when I say it’s okay. Besides, I wouldn’t mind if you stayed here forever. It’s good to have company.”
We both chuckle before hugging each other.
“Good night,” I say as I leave his room.
I head downstairs to grab my bags and bring them up to my room. After doing my night routine, I finally crawl into bed and drift off to sleep.
Not and ask at all but wow, your character designs are so amazing they could probably leap off the page and start their own reality show! Seriously, I half expected to see one of them pop up in my living room, sipping coffee and asking for a Wi-Fi password.
The colors are vibrant enough to make a rainbow jealous. I mean, if a box of crayons had feelings, it would probably be weeping tears of envy right now! And the details? I can practically hear the fabric of their clothes whispering fashion advice. “Oh honey, that cape is SO last season!”
I love how each character has their own personality bursting through the design. One look at them, and I can already tell who’s the moody brooding hero, the quirky sidekick, and the villain who probably laughs maniacally while plotting world domination. Or maybe they’re just trying to find the best pizza place in town—it's tough to tell with villains these days!
And don’t even get me started on the eyes! They’re so expressive, I felt like they were giving me a full-on monologue about their life choices. I’d say they might need a therapist, but let’s be honest, they’re probably just looking for a sidekick to join them on their next wild adventure.
So, in conclusion, your character designs are absolutely phenomenal! They’re so good, I’m considering commissioning one to take over my social media accounts.
WAAAAH thank you so much!! I'm so glad you like my designs, I'd love to know which characters are your faves! 💕
[ You have awoken for the first time in a hotel room that is strangely in line with your tastes. You do not remember checking in, or how you got here. You’re not even all that sure what the last thing you did prior to falling asleep was. ]
[ You notice a piece of paper on the desk. You pick it up, and realize it’s a hotel brochure. As you begin to read, the TV—which isn’t plugged in, doesn’t even have a cord, in fact—suddenly turns on, filling the room with static noise. And then, amongst that noise, a voice—tone pleasant and bright, but horrifyingly layered and distorted—starts to speak the very words within the brochure you currently hold. ]
Tumblr media
“Welcome to The Inndefinite! We’re so happy to have you here, and you’ll find over the course of your time here that we have everything you need and more.”
“We’re sure you’re wondering about check-in. We would like you to rest assured that check-in was completed upon waking in your room, and no further steps are necessary. However, if you wish to acquire additional room keys, you will need to request this at the front desk.”
“We know your room is to your liking, we’re so glad you enjoy it! We pride ourselves on our dedicated to detail staff, so that your room feels authentic to you. If anything is missing, give the front desk a call with the phone in your room, and we’ll do our best to accommodate, within reason.”
“Most of our amenities are available 24/7, and they include:”
All inclusive food and beverage
Bar
Fitness center
Indoor Pool and Hot Tub
Rooftop Pool, when conditions allow*
Toiletries
Room Service
Coffee bar
Arcade
The Inndefinite cable channels and internet ( no wi-fi password necessary! )
“And more!”
           “ *We do not always know when conditions allow, but the elevator does. The rooftop button will become operational when conditions are good, and will cease to be operational when conditions do not allow. If you are enjoying our rooftop pool when the latter happens, an alarm will sound to indicate the change, at which point you have 1 minute and 46 seconds exactly to get back in the elevator before it shuts off access in and out of the roof.”
“We do have a few hotel rules that are in all Inndefinite residents best interest to follow.”
Be respectful of other residents and their spaces.
Don’t enter unlabeled rooms, especially if the door is ajar.
If rule 2 is disregarded, you must obey the rules posted in the room. We are not responsible for any consequences that arise if these are not followed.
The stairwell is off limits. It may try to beckon to you, and the doors refuse to stay locked, but please do resist. Staff are unfortunately unable to do anything about this at this time.
You may gaze outside, but try not to do so for too long. There may be consequences to this, and experiencing unpleasant side effects is possible.
Don’t leave. We’d hate to lose you.
“If you have any issues, you may ring the bell at the front desk. When the chandelier lights turn green, you may express your concerns, and staff will get to work on what they can shortly. Don’t be discouraged if you never see them—hotel policy is that staff remain unseen at all times.”
“We encourage all residents to work out issues with each other as best they can before reporting to the front desk. We wish to avoid the use of hotel security. If hotel security becomes involved, all building lights will turn red. We advise all residents to heed the lights and return to their rooms post haste, until the lights return to normal.”
“Finally, hotel news and updates will be broadcast through all hotel TV’s. Stay tuned!”
“We hope the information we’ve provided for you here is sufficient, and we look forward to what you make of your time here at The Inndefinite.”
Deep Dive into Wi-Fi Hacking: How Ethical Hackers Secure Your Wireless Networks
Tumblr media
With our hyper-connected world, Wi-Fi is the unseen lifeline keeping us online today. From streaming your favorite shows to managing your smart home devices, Wi-Fi is everywhere. But have you ever stopped to think about just how secure your wireless network really is? What if someone could sneak into your network, steal your data, or even hijack your devices? Scary, right? That’s where ethical hackers come in—the unsung heroes of the digital age who use their skills to protect, not exploit. If you’ve ever been curious about how they do it, or if you’re considering a cybersecurity and ethical hacking course, this blog is for you.
The Dark Side of Wi-Fi: Why It’s a Hacker’s Playground
Well, face it: Wi-Fi networks are a goldmine for cybercriminals. Why? Because they are usually the easiest weakness in our digital defense. It has weak passwords, outdated encryption, and misconfigured routers. That's not to mention stealing your Netflix login. Hackers can use it as an open gateway to access more of your digital life.
Here's your scenario: You're having your favorite coffee at a quaint little café while making use of their free Wi-Fi. Well, a hacker within some tables from you is running Aircrack-ng or Wireshark for quite a bit on your data that's going by. Before you realize it, they have gotten your login credentials, credit card information, or even obtained access to your corporate emails. How scary does that sound?
Enter Ethical Hackers: The Good Guys of Wi-Fi Security
That is when the ethical hackers come in. Cybersecurity professionals use the same hacking tools and techniques as evil hackers, with one difference though: they work for you. Their job is to find a hole before a hacker does so that they may fix it before hackers can gain entry into your network.
How do they go about it? Let's dissect this:
Reconnaissance: Ethical hackers first gather information about the target network. They use tools such as Kismet or NetStumbler to identify the network's SSID, encryption type, and connected devices.
Exploitation: Once they have identified potential weaknesses, they try to exploit them. For example, if the network uses outdated WEP encryption (which is notoriously weak), they might use tools like Aircrack-ng to crack the password.
Post-Exploitation: Having obtained access, the ethical hacker calculates the potential damage that can be done. Could they have accessed sensitive files? Could they have launched a man-in-the-middle attack? This step will give them a sense of real-world impact from the vulnerability.
Reporting and Patching: They finally document their findings and collaborate with the owner of the network to fix the issues. It may involve updating firmware, changing passwords, or enabling stronger encryption like WPA3.
Why You Should Care About Wi-Fi Security
You may be thinking: "I am an average user, so why would somebody even bother with me?" The thing is, hackers don't discriminate. Whether you are just an individual, a small business owner, or part of a large corporation, your Wi-Fi network is a potential target. And with the emergence of IoT devices, such as smart thermostats, security cameras, and voice assistants, the risk is much bigger than ever.
Here's the good news: You don't need to be a tech genius to protect yourself. By learning the basics of Wi-Fi security or even enrolling in a cybersecurity and ethical hacking course, you can take control of your digital safety.
How to Secure Your Wi-Fi Network: Tips from the Pros
Want to make your Wi-Fi network hacker-proof? Here are some practical tips inspired by ethical hackers:
Use Strong Passwords: Avoid using common passwords, such as "admin" or "password123." Instead, use long complex phrase with letters, numbers, and symbols.
Enable WPA3 Encryption: The latest Wi-Fi encryption protocol is WPA3; if your router supports it, switch to WPA3.
Update Your Router's Firmware: Manufacturers in their official websites may have coming updates that address security vulnerabilities. Check and update the firmware on your router to a newer edition.
WPS: Wi-Fi Protected Setup is convenient but highly insecure. Just turn it off to minimize brute-force attacks.
Check Connected Devices: You would be surprised to know which device is connected to your network if you don't check it periodically. If something looks suspicious, investigate immediately.
Ready to Be a Wi-Fi Warrior?
If this deep dive into Wi-Fi hacking has piqued your interest, why not take it further? A cybersecurity and ethical hacking course can teach you the skills you need to protect yourself—and maybe even turn your passion for tech into a rewarding career. Imagine being the person who uncovers vulnerabilities, thwarts cyberattacks, and keeps the digital world safe. Sounds exciting, doesn't it?
Ethical hacking is not the art of hacking into systems, but understanding how they work so that such knowledge can be applied to strengthen their defenses. In a world that is ever changing with threats through cyber, it has never been a better time to learn.
Final Thoughts
It sounds like something out of a spy movie, but the truth is that Wi-Fi hacking is an everyday threat in your life. The good news is that with the right information and tools you can protect yourself and your loved ones from becoming cybercrime victims. However, whether you are a tech enthusiast or a complete beginner, a course in cybersecurity and ethical hacking will empower you to take the lead in digital security.
Remember the next time you connect to a Wi-Fi network: those invisible waves keeping you online can be the doors for hackers. Stay informed and vigilant, and maybe you will end up being that ethical hacker who saves the day.
So, stay safe and happy ethical hacking!
Day 18: Tree house
They weren’t quite sure what to expect when Minka insisted they come to her right this instant, when it came to her it could be anything really.
“Woah, what?” Pepper’s eyes widened as the entire group looked up. Today’s idea was surprisingly grounded yet still outlandish, especially for just one person.
Pepper, Zoe, Penny, Sunil, and Vinnie stood face to face with a tree house in Minka’s backyard. Actually, perhaps face to face wasn’t the most accurate statement, none of them were 4 meters tall after all.
“Minka, darling, you’re trying to tell me you built this by yourself from scratch?” Zoe scratched her nape in awe. Sure, it wasn’t the most amazing tree house in the world, but it was still a feat for one person, and most importantly it looked sturdy.
“Mostly, yes!” Minka smiled proudly, now bouncing to stand in-between her friends and the tree house.
“Let me guess, that’s why you have kept borrowing different tools from us in the past… I don’t even know how many months.” Penny questioned.
“Wait, she kept borrowing tools from all of us?” Sunil eyed the rest of his friends with who all nodded. “I thought it was just me.”
“Well, I needed a loooot of stuff, some that I didn’t have, but enough talking, let’s head inside. Russell will just have to find us when he arrives.” Without waiting for anyone’s reaction Minka started climbing the ladder up to the construction in the trees. Her friends all exchanged glances and shrugs but one by one used the ladder as well.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the first one to climb to the top and then eye the insides of the small-ish space was Vinnie.
“Wow.” He crawled inside and looked around. There was no heavy furniture to be found, but a small table, some chairs, even a few shelves were scattered around the walls and the floor. “Neat.” There was also a dirty beanbag in the corner. “Mine!” He bolted towards it as soon as he spotted it and landed his bum on it.
“To be honest, I don’t think anyone else here would want to sit on that,” Sunil commented once Vinnie got out of his way. One by one everyone got inside and found their own spot.
“This is genuinely so cool.” Penny leaned out of the small window, enjoying the pleasant breeze on her cheeks.
“I say, Minka, I knew you were good at creating, but this is on another level.” Zoe trailed her fingers on the wooden wall and smiled at her friend. “I mean it.”
“Yeah, no kidding.” Pepper high fived Minka who squealed in excitement.
“I knew you’d like it. Now we have a place to hang out that is all our own.”
“Didn’t we have that already? You know, like our houses?” Vinnie who up until now had been relaxing with closed eyes raised his chin up.
“Please, that’s not the same, our regular houses aren’t in the trees.” Pepper shook her head in mock-offense. “Right, Minka?”
“Yeah!”
“So, what else can we do in here?” Sunil asked while skimming through the calendar on the wall, it was clearly hand-made and adorned with their group-pictures.
“Anything we want.” Minka sat down on one of the chairs and started counting on her fingers. “First, we can bring all sorts of stuff here to decorate this space some more; or maybe we can even make some decorations ourselves here, we can tell stories,” She looked at Penny allusively, “or we can just relax, there’s no TV here but the Wi-Fi reaches this spot, I know, I checked, so if you want to sit here on your phone and watch videos or something that’s an option too. But the best thing is…” Minka’s facial expression immediately changed to a mischievous grin, “we can make a password so then everyone who doesn’t know it will not be able to enter.”
“A little childish but I suppose it won’t hurt.” Zoe raised her palms in front of herself when Minka gave her a quick glare.
“I think if anything one of us will just end up forgetting it…” Sunil whispered under his breath but took a seat among the rest of the group.
“Alright, so what should the password be?”
After Zoe’s question came temporary silence interrupted occasionally by a pensive hum.
“How about “Pepper is very cool, and we are lucky to have her as a friend.”?” Pepper herself proposed with a grin.
“I think that’s a bit too long for a password.” Penny gave her friend a semi-apologetic smile. “Maybe something shorter, easier to remember.” That set off an avalanche of suggestions.
“Outrageous performance.”
“Yeah, a comedy performance!”
“House-tree, it’s so obvious that no one will figure it out.”
"Oh, a house that is a tree. No... maybe something else."
“Vinnie is hungry.” Everyone turned to stare at Vinnie.
“We are not making the password “Vinnie is hungry.”,” Sunil deadpanned.
“No, no, I didn’t mean it like that. I’m actually a bit hungry.” Vinnie puffed out his cheeks. “Fine, maybe it’s not the time.”
“Wait, I got it!” Pepper barged. “Let’s make the password “Russell smells.”
“Really, Pepper?” Zoe rolled her eyes.
“Come on, he’s not here, it will be funny. At least for now, we can change it later.”
Before anyone else could offer any input, a familiar voice rang from somewhere below.
“Guys, are you in there?”
Minka jumped to the still opened door and looked down at the newcomer.
“Hi, Rusty, we are here! Come on, climb up.” She waved wildly at him before stopping abruptly and retreating inside in advance of closing the door.
“Uh, open the door, please?” They all heard from the other side after a dozen or so seconds.
“Nope, sorry, you have to say the password first, it’s a rule now.” Pepper raised her voice before laughing quietly.
“Password? Let me guess, you made some mandatory password when I wasn’t even here?”
“Aha.”
There was silence for a while.
“Alright, I guess in this case you don’t want the brownies I brought.” A few descending noises of shoes stepping on wood could be heard going down.
“Wait, uh-!”
“Brownies?” Vinnie gasped and ran past Pepper. “Come in, Russell, no password needed.” He swung the door open wide and looked down at Russell who was almost on ground level.
“Thought so.” He grinned and began climbing up once more. “Why else did you think I was late?” He took out a plastic container from his backpack once at the top and began handing out the brownies to everyone, even Pepper after she sheepishly apologized though not before Russell rolled his eyes and got his chance to tell her off.
Once he went around to everyone, he sat down cross legged next to Minka and offered her a piece too.
“This really looks good, Minka.”
“Woah, woah, woah, you come here late and only have that to say? Come on, this is honestly incredible.” Pepper walked up to him, her tone mildly accusatory. However, Russell simply smirked at her.
“Thanks. I mean, who do you think did most of the measuring?” Minka giggled at his audacity and Pepper’s bamboozled expression. “I saw this tree house before any of you were even aware of its existence, aside from Minka, of course.” He glanced at her, making her twirl her hair around her finger.
“Haha, yeah, so maybe I needed a little help.”
“Damn it, Ferguson,” Pepper swallowed the rest of her brownie. “You’re too good sometimes. In this case I guess then we might change that password.” She walked away and leaned against the wall next to Vinnie who quirked a brow at her.
“Thought so.” Russell opened his mouth but just before he could bite into his own piece his hand came to a halt. “Wait a second, what was that previous password?”
Pepper could merely let out a nervous cackle before her and Russell started running around the limited space as he chased her. Yup, the baptism of the new hangout place went well.
Thanks (once again xd) @lpsluvblr for giving me an idea of what to write for this prompt since I was dry of ideas
Uhhh falling behind a little bit with the days but Leffee has real life to deal with, tomorrow she has an exam and a presentation, so you know, she needs to do stuff! And it's not like after that it will be the end, but yeah, have this for now :]
Let's take our time figuring out a careful way to reach our client, who is most definitely dying brutally as we speak.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What about the passcode? You need to step on panels in a particular order in order to open the final door. Do we know the passcode?
Tumblr media
Bestie and I can go. You stay behind, Desuhiko. If the killer comes through, shriek for help and then jump 'em. We'll hurry back while Fink is slaughtering you.
Tumblr media
Oh, that's a good idea. It won't help you jump them, but you can get a good look at their face, see them up close, maybe even engage them in conversation while they're trying to escape. Then rewind, take all that knowledge with you, and hide.
I like it. You're on guard duty, bestie.
Tumblr media
Dude, we're out-of-uniform and visibly children. What could possibly possess you to think we're Peacekeepers?
Tumblr media
Just went through an entire recap fast-forward while Fuckboy's in there trying to count how many internal organs the killer's managed to perforate so far.
I hope Yuma's under no delusions of finding Huesca alive 'cause we are taking our sweet time with this rescue.
Tumblr media
Sure, there's time for that. Not like a man's dying or anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right now, Ama-Pal is my going theory for how Huesca's murder was carried out. But that's more due to a lack of ideas than any concrete evidence.
Tumblr media
No idea. I'll let you know if I ever see one.
Tumblr media
He upgraded his lab's security system into a murder machine that kills unsuspecting people. You don't have to tell me twice.
Tumblr media
He did. He truly did.
Tumblr media
Look on the bright side. You come with us, you might get to see his corpse. I'm eager to find out what Slaughter Art looks like. I'm hoping for a bit of expressionism, myself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So long as you have the remote, you can see through Ama-Pal's eyes. Makes sense. Pretty basic.
Tumblr media
Fairly durable. Check.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Itty-bitty ball-arms. Cannot pick things up, but can flip a switch. He needs to specify this because cartoon critters with no physical hands inexplicably manage to pick things up just fine all the time, so he needs to firmly establish that the ball-hands are not mysteriously functional.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This feels like it's going to be extremely important. An Ama-Pal had to have been used to carry out this crime, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you know the passcode to access the lab, it wouldn't matter. If you don't know the passcode, you'd have to brute force it. But depending on how the system works, there might only be a handful of possible combinations.
I was thinking about that when talking to Makoto. If you have to step on every panel and make your way from one side of the room to the other then there's precious few combinations you could make without doubling back over an already-pressed panel.
Even if the password isn't that dumb and does allow passbacks, an electric shock on every wrong panel would make it trivially easy for a shock-proof little robot to crack. If you get negative feedback at every wrong press then you can find the right presses through rote trial and error.
My gut says an Ama-Pal was in the Panel Room brute-forcing combinations while we were talking to Huesca. His sudden "Wait, who are you!?!?" reaction was because the little drone finally cracked the code and entered the lab.
Could have been avoided with a standard-issue finger-sized key-panel but techbros always have to be so clever about everything.
Given that we're so deep underground, it'd be hard for a wi-fi signal to reach this far from outside. So if the killer did brute force the Panel Room via Ama-Pal, they had to be down here with us.
Tumblr media
Though if Researcher's telling the truth, this throws a wrench into that idea. Obviously, this Ama-Pal is not currently in the lab murdering Huesca.
Tumblr media
The Sizzler, on account of what's going to happen to them in a few minutes when it turns out they aren't as well insulated as we'd hoped.
Tumblr media
Which means one of three things.
1 - Fink is still in there. 2 - Fink didn't have to enter the room to kill Huesca. 3 - Fink has an alternate means of entry and exit into the lab that bypasses all security.
On the other end of the spectrum, if you're very techy but still don't want corporate spyware here's how you do it.
Get a Raspberry Pi and install Home Assistant on it. If you use the Raspberry Pi imager you literally can't fuck this part up. You just plug in your SD card, select Home Assistant OS, type in your Wi-Fi password and just plug it in somewhere unobtrusive and central to your house or apartment.
Buy a Zigbee USB adapter compatible with Zigbee2MQTT and plug it in. I got one with the CC2652P chipset on AliExpress.
Install the Zigbee2MQTT HA Add-on and set it up for you device.
Buy some cheap Zigbee smart outlets and let them pair with your HA server. They go for about $6/outlet which is a bit more expensive than the remote version but still not too bad.
Now you have all the benefits of smart stuff like automations, scenes but also without BS like Alexa/Google home. And (if you want, it's not there by default obviously) you can set up voice commands through HA that work locally. Zigbee devices have no wi-fi or internet access so they're free to be any brand as sketchy as you like. They couldn't track you even if they wanted to. And everything is controlled through one open source app.
Zigbee is an open industry standard as compared to all those 433Hz devices are using bespoke protocols. If you're motivated with your Flipper Zero they're never that complicated but it'll be annoying to find another remote where any and everything can control Zigbee devices.
Unless you're looking for a project you should probably go with the remotes but this starts to be an attractive option if you have a lot of outlets you want to convert or want other devices in the mix like water sensors, LED bulbs/strips, or smart switches to get those pesky built-in lights.
Accessibility tip:
If you want to automate your home a bit, but you don't want any "smart" tech, you can just buy remote controlled power sockets instead
Tumblr media
They are a lot cheaper and easier to set up and use than some home automation smart tech nonsense
They don't need an app (but some models come with optional apps and there are apps that are compatible with most of these)
Many of them use the 433mhz frequency to communicate, which makes most models compatible with each other, even if they are from different manufacturers
The tech has been around for a long time and will be around for a long time to come
You don't have to put any fucking corporate listening devices like an amazon echo in your home
Models for outdoors exist as well
How can criminals bypass multi-factor authentication (MFA)?
Tumblr media
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) has long been hailed as the cybersecurity savior. By adding an extra layer of verification beyond just a password – typically a code from an app, a fingerprint, or a security key – MFA drastically reduces the risk of account compromise. For years, it was considered virtually unhackable, making it the bedrock of digital security for individuals and organizations alike.
But in 2025, the cybersecurity landscape has evolved. While MFA remains an absolutely critical defense, sophisticated criminals are finding increasingly clever ways to circumvent it. The illusion of MFA being an impenetrable fortress is a dangerous one. Understanding these bypass techniques is the first step in truly fortifying your digital castle.
MFA: The Unsung Hero (and Its Evolving Limitations)
MFA is effective because it relies on different "factors" of authentication:
Something you know (password, PIN)
Something you have (phone, hardware token)
Something you are (biometrics like fingerprint, face scan)
By requiring at least two of these, MFA makes it exponentially harder for an attacker to gain access, even if they steal your password. However, criminals don't just give up; they adapt. And their adaptation strategies are getting alarmingly good.
The New Playbook: Top MFA Bypass Techniques
Phishing & Interception (Man-in-the-Middle/Adversary-in-the-Middle):
How it Works: This is arguably the most common and effective bypass. Attackers create incredibly realistic fake login pages that act as a proxy. When you try to log in, your credentials and your MFA code are intercepted in real-time by the attacker's server, which then immediately uses them to log into the legitimate site. You log in, oblivious, while the attacker gains access. Tools like Evilginx and Modlishka automate this process.
Why it Works: It exploits human trust and a lack of meticulous URL vigilance. You see a familiar login screen and trust the padlock icon, not noticing the subtle fake domain.
MFA Fatigue / Push Bombing:
How it Works: Attackers, having somehow obtained your username and password (e.g., from a breach), repeatedly send MFA push notifications to your device. They hope you'll eventually approve one out of annoyance, distraction, or confusion (e.g., "Oh, my VPN software is acting up again, must be a prompt from that").
Why it Works: It preys on human psychological factors like frustration, habit, and a desire to make pop-ups disappear.
SIM Swapping (or SIM Jacking):
How it Works: This targets SMS-based MFA. Attackers trick your mobile carrier (often through social engineering or bribing an insider) into transferring your phone number to a SIM card they control. Once they own your number, they receive all your SMS messages, including MFA codes for banking, email, and other services.
Why it Works: It exploits weaknesses in the customer verification processes of mobile service providers.
Session Hijacking / Cookie Theft:
How it Works: MFA secures the initial login. Once you're authenticated, your browser stores a session cookie that keeps you logged in. Attackers can steal this cookie (e.g., via sophisticated malware, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks on vulnerable websites, or compromised public Wi-Fi) and then use it to bypass the login process entirely, directly accessing your authenticated session.
Why it Works: MFA doesn't protect the ongoing session itself.
Social Engineering (Human Factor Exploitation):
How it Works: This is the most versatile bypass. Attackers manipulate individuals (e.g., help desk staff, IT support, or even the target directly) into resetting MFA, divulging MFA codes, or disabling security features. They might impersonate the target, a legitimate authority figure, or IT support.
Why it Works: It exploits human psychology – trust, the desire to be helpful, fear, or a perceived sense of authority.
Malware & Keyloggers:
How it Works: If malicious software is installed on your device, it can capture credentials and MFA codes as they are entered. More advanced malware can even create a backdoor that bypasses MFA entirely by leveraging compromised system privileges.
Why it Works: The endpoint itself is compromised, allowing the malware to control or observe authentication processes.
Strengthening Your MFA Defense: Beyond the Basics
While these bypasses sound intimidating, implementing a multi-layered defense strategy can significantly reduce your risk.
Prioritize Phishing-Resistant MFA:
Security Keys (FIDO2/WebAuthn): These are the gold standard. Devices like YubiKey or Google Titan Key verify the legitimate website's origin cryptographically, making phishing pages ineffective.
App-Based Authenticator Apps (TOTP): Use apps like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. These generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) that change every 30-60 seconds and are more secure than SMS codes.
Avoid SMS/Email MFA where possible: While better than nothing, SMS and email are the least secure forms of MFA due to susceptibility to SIM swapping and phishing.
Unwavering User Education & Awareness:
Check URLs Meticulously: Train yourself and your team to always inspect the full URL of a login page. Look for subtle misspellings, extra words, or unusual domains before entering any credentials.
Never Approve Uninitiated MFA Prompts: If you receive an MFA push notification that you didn't initiate, deny it. This is crucial for stopping MFA fatigue attacks.
Be Skeptical of Urgency: Phishing attacks thrive on creating panic. Any unexpected message or call demanding immediate action, especially involving sensitive data or money, should be treated with extreme suspicion.
Implement Robust Anti-Phishing Controls:
For organizations: Deploy advanced email gateway solutions, DNS filtering, and browser extensions that warn users about suspicious sites.
For individuals: Use reputable anti-phishing browser extensions and keep your browser updated.
Robust Endpoint Security:
Keep your operating system and all software (web browsers, applications, antivirus) up-to-date with the latest security patches. This prevents malware and exploitation of system vulnerabilities.
Use a reputable antivirus/anti-malware solution with real-time protection.
Monitor for Anomalies (Especially for Organizations):
Implement security monitoring tools to detect unusual login locations, repeated failed MFA attempts, sudden MFA registration changes, or suspicious network activity from authenticated users.
Strong Internal Policies (For Organizations):
Establish and strictly enforce rigorous identity verification processes for help desk staff when users request MFA resets or account access. Regularly audit these processes.
MFA is an essential component of modern cybersecurity, but it is not a silver bullet. As criminals evolve, so must our defenses. By understanding their tactics and adopting a multi-layered approach that combines strong MFA implementations with continuous user education, robust endpoint security, and vigilant monitoring, we can collectively make it significantly harder for attackers to breach our digital fortresses. Stay informed, stay skeptical, and stay secure.
