If there was one thing you prided yourself on, it was the fact that no one at Hogwarts knew you were Mattheo Riddle’s sibling.
You had spent years ensuring it stayed that way. It wasn’t that you were ashamed—well, maybe a little—but Mattheo had a reputation. The fights, the detentions, the way he and his Slytherin friends ruled the school like they were untouchable. Meanwhile, you were… well, you. A Hufflepuff through and through, more interested in helping first-years find their way around than getting into fights in the Astronomy Tower.
It wasn’t like you and Mattheo hated each other either. In fact, in private, you got along pretty well. He was protective in the way older brothers were, making sure no one messed with you while also respecting your need for space. It was an unspoken agreement—he did his thing, you did yours, and no one at Hogwarts needed to know you shared blood.
At least, that was the plan.
You remembered the first time you arrived at Hogwarts, sitting in the Great Hall as the Sorting Hat was placed on your head. You’d felt Mattheo’s eyes burning into you from the Slytherin table, silently willing you to join him. But when the hat cheerfully announced, "Hufflepuff!", the look on his face had been nothing short of hilarious.
Later that night, he had pulled you aside.
“Hufflepuff? Seriously?” he had asked, arms crossed.
You had shrugged. “What’s wrong with Hufflepuff?”
Mattheo groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. “It’s not wrong, it’s just… unexpected.”
That was the first and last time you discussed it. From then on, it was an unspoken rule: in public, you weren’t related. You didn’t acknowledge each other unless necessary, and no one questioned it because—well, who would suspect that the hotheaded, sharp-tongued Slytherin had a sibling as patient and kind as you?
Sure, there had been close calls. That one time in your second year when Mattheo had hexed a Ravenclaw who had insulted you, or the time in fourth year when you’d patched him up after he got into a fight, and Theo Nott had almost walked in on you both.
But for five years, the secret had held.
Until today.
──── ୨୧ ──────── ୨୧ ────
It started at breakfast.
You were sitting with your usual group of Hufflepuffs, laughing about something Cedric Diggory had said, when a commotion at the Slytherin table caught your attention.
Mattheo was on his feet, eyes burning with fury as he grabbed a younger Slytherin by the collar.
“You think you can just talk about my family like that?” Mattheo growled, his voice carrying across the Great Hall.
The younger student stammered, clearly regretting whatever words had left his mouth. The entire room was now watching, intrigued by the outburst.
“Mattheo,” Draco muttered, placing a hand on his friend’s arm. “Let it go.”
Mattheo’s jaw tightened, but after a moment, he shoved the kid back into his seat. The tension slowly dissipated as people turned back to their breakfasts, whispering about what had just happened.
You, however, had frozen mid-bite.
He said ‘my family.’
You had a very, very bad feeling about this.
But maybe—just maybe—people wouldn’t notice. Maybe they’d assume he was talking about his parents, or some long-lost relative, or something entirely unrelated to you. You glanced around, scanning the students at your table. No one was looking at you weirdly. No one seemed to have connected the dots.
Yet.
“Damn,” one of your housemates muttered, eyes still flickering toward the Slytherin table. “Mattheo’s really got a temper.”
“Tell me something I don’t know,” another Hufflepuff snorted. “I swear, that guy wakes up angry.”
“Did you hear what that kid said to him?” a third chimed in. “It must’ve been bad for him to go off like that.”
You kept your head down, focusing on your toast. Maybe if you acted normal, no one would—
“So,” Cedric’s voice broke through your thoughts, too casual for your liking, “who do you think Mattheo meant by ‘my family’?”
Your hand twitched.
“Probably his parents,” one of the Hufflepuff girls replied. “Everyone knows his dad’s—you know.”
You risked a glance toward the Slytherin table. Mattheo was still standing, breathing heavily, eyes flickering toward you for a split second before looking away.
He knew what he’d done.
You wanted to strangle him.
Cedric hummed, resting his chin on his hand. “Yeah, maybe. Or…” His gaze slid toward you, sharp and calculating. “Could be someone else.”
You gave him your best blank stare. “Why are you looking at me?”
“I don’t know,” Cedric said, smiling like he absolutely did know. “You just look suspicious.”
“I always look suspicious.”
“That’s true,” another Hufflepuff agreed, nodding. “You’ve got a very ‘secret double life’ kind of face.”
“That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”
“Is it, though?” Cedric grinned. “Because I think Mattheo just gave us something very interesting to think about.”
You groaned, shoving the rest of your toast into your mouth before standing up. “I’m leaving.”
“See?” Cedric laughed. “Suspicious behavior.”
You ignored him, walking as fast as you could out of the Great Hall.
──── ୨୧ ──────── ୨୧ ────
You were proven right about an hour later when you were leaving Charms and found yourself cornered by a group of curious Gryffindors.
Seamus Finnigan was the first to speak, eyes wide with disbelief. “Oi, Y/N, is it true?”
You blinked. “Is what true?”
Dean Thomas scoffed. “Oh, come on, don’t play dumb. We all heard Mattheo this morning.”
Your stomach dropped. “Uh…”
“Are you actually related to Mattheo Riddle?” Lavender Brown cut in, looking positively giddy.
You forced a nervous laugh. “You know, I suddenly remembered that I—uh—left my Potions essay in the common room. Gotta go—”
Before you could take a single step, Seamus grabbed your arm. “Oh no, you don’t! We need answers.”
Damn it.
You tried to keep a neutral expression. “Look, I don’t know where you’re getting these ridiculous ideas, but—”
“Mattheo literally said ‘my family,’” Dean interrupted. “And unless he considers some first-year a long-lost cousin, we can put two and two together.”
You swallowed hard. “I mean… family is a broad term, you know? Found family, distant family, metaphorical family—”
“Oh my Merlin,” Lavender gasped dramatically. “IT’S TRUE, ISN’T IT?”
“NO!” you said way too quickly. “I mean—no, as in, I really have to be somewhere. Right now. Urgent meeting. Important business. Secret mission. Goodbye!”
And before anyone could stop you, you spun on your heel and bolted down the corridor.
“GET BACK HERE!” Seamus yelled, but you didn’t dare slow down.
You turned a corner sharply, nearly knocking over a group of Ravenclaws.
“Hey, watch it—oh, wait, Y/N!” Anthony Goldstein called out. “You’re Mattheo Riddle’s sibling?!”
You let out a strangled noise that wasn’t quite a yes or a no and kept running.
You thought you were in the clear until you ran straight into Cedric near the entrance to the Hufflepuff common room.
“Whoa, slow down there!” Cedric steadied you, his eyebrows raised. “Where’s the fire?”
“No time—gotta go—” you huffed, trying to sidestep him.
Cedric squinted at you, then tilted his head. “Wait a second. Are the rumors true? About you and Mattheo?”
Your eyes darted around, searching for an escape. “What rumors? Who said that? I mean, what’s a rumor, really? A social construct? A—LOOK OVER THERE!”
You pointed dramatically in a random direction.
Cedric, being the nice, trusting Hufflepuff that he was, actually turned to look.
And you took off.
“Y/N!” Cedric called after you, but you were already sprinting toward the Grand Staircase.
You were nearly home free until—
“Y/N!”
Oh, for the love of—
You skidded to a stop as none other than Theodore Nott and Blaise Zabini stepped in front of you, blocking your path.
“I thought I saw you running around like a lunatic,” Theodore drawled, looking mildly amused. “Tell me, why exactly is the entire school suddenly interested in you?”
Blaise crossed his arms. “Yeah, and why did I just hear a fourth-year say that Mattheo Riddle has a secret Hufflepuff sibling?”
Your face twitched. “...I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Blaise raised an eyebrow.
Theodore smirked. “You’re a terrible liar, Y/N.”
You groaned, rubbing your temples. “I hate this school.”
“Mm,” Blaise hummed. “That doesn’t answer the question, though.”
“I—uh—have to get to class.”
Theodore deadpanned. “It’s lunchtime.”
Damn it.
“Uh—detention?” you tried.
Blaise smirked. “With who?”
“Uh… Snape?”
Theodore chuckled. “Snape’s in his office right now. I just saw him.”
“I have to go… feed my bunny?”
“You don’t have an bunny.” Blaise pointed out.
You groaned. “FORGET IT, I’M LEAVING.”
You tried to run, but Theodore casually stuck out a foot and tripped you. You stumbled forward, cursing under your breath.
“Okay, okay!” you snapped, regaining your balance. “I just don’t want to talk about it, alright?”
Theodore and Blaise exchanged glances before Theodore shrugged. “Fair enough. But you do know Mattheo’s going to get an earful from us, right?”
You just groaned and stormed away from the duo.
Mattheo was gonna get a piece of your mind.
──── ୨୧ ──────── ୨୧ ────
By lunch, it felt like the entire school was staring at you.
Whispers followed you down the corridors, louder than usual, and students weren’t even trying to be subtle about it anymore.
“There’s no way—”
“A Riddle? In Hufflepuff? HOW?”
“Are they, like, adopted?”
“Maybe they were switched at birth.”
“WAIT. Maybe they’re, like, some undercover assassin for the Dark Lord.”
You groaned, pressing your fingers against your temples. It was getting worse.
After what felt like an eternity of being gawked at like some zoo animal, you finally found Mattheo leaning against a pillar in the courtyard, looking far too smug for someone who had just single-handedly ruined your peaceful existence.
“You absolute buffoon.” You stomped toward him, jabbing a finger into his chest. “Do you know what you’ve done?”
Mattheo blinked innocently. “Me? Whatever do you mean?”
You gaped at him. “WHATEVER DO YOU MEAN?! THE WHOLE SCHOOL KNOWS, YOU MENACE. I CAN’T WALK TEN STEPS WITHOUT SOMEONE POINTING AT ME LIKE I’M A DAMN RARE CREATURE.”
He smirked. “Well, technically, you are rare. A Hufflepuff Riddle? That’s practically an anomaly.”
You threw your hands in the air dramatically. “I LIKED NOT BEING ASSOCIATED WITH YOU.”
Mattheo clutched his chest in mock heartbreak. “That wounds me, dearest sibling. Truly.”
You ignored his theatrics. “No, seriously, do you understand what you’ve done? I’ve spent years—YEARS—building a life here where I wasn’t known as Mattheo Riddle’s poor, unfortunate sibling, and you ruined it in under five seconds.”
Mattheo hummed, tilting his head. “Five seconds is quite impressive, really.”
You groaned, pacing in front of him. “I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes. I do.”
“Nooo,” he drawled, grinning. “You love me. I’m your amazing, handsome, overprotective, wonderful older brother, and you’re honored to be related to me.”
You inhaled sharply, pressing your fingers against your temples. “I’m going to commit a crime.”
Mattheo patted your head patronizingly. “Aw, you’re so cute when you’re mad.”
Before you could bite back a snarky response, a group of Ravenclaw students walked by, eyes narrowing in suspicion as they caught sight of you and Mattheo interacting.
“Wait a second,” one of them muttered, nudging their friend. “Are they actually—like, actually—siblings?”
The other student squinted. “There’s no way.”
A Gryffindor passing by heard this and immediately gasped. “Holy shit. They do look kind of alike. What if it’s true?”
“Shhh,” another hissed. “They’ll hear you.”
You plastered on the most forced, awkward smile in history and turned toward the suspicious group.
“Ha! Siblings? Us? What a—what a funny thought,” you said, voice unnaturally high. “Haha. Me and Mattheo Riddle? Pfft. Noooo. That’s crazy. What a—what a wild conspiracy theory. You guys should—uh—write a book about it. Haha.”
The Ravenclaws did not look convinced.
Mattheo, for his part, simply rolled his eyes at you, looking absolutely done with your existence.
“Real subtle,” he muttered under his breath.
You shot him a glare before turning back to the growing audience. “Uh—anyway! Gotta go! I left a—a cauldron burning in the potions classroom! Haha. Silly me!”
Then, grabbing Mattheo by the sleeve, you yanked him out of the courtyard before you could humiliate yourself further.
Once you were safely out of earshot, you whirled on him.
“DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MEANS?! NOW I HAVE TO DEAL WITH YOUR STUPID FRIENDS, AND THE GOSSIP, AND PEOPLE QUESTIONING MY ENTIRE EXISTENCE. IT’S GOING TO TAKE YEARS TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE YOU’VE DONE.”
Mattheo shrugged. “Or you could just embrace it.”
“Embrace it?” You let out a near-hysterical laugh. “EMBRACE IT?! DO I LOOK LIKE I WANT TO BE A PART OF WHATEVER THIS IS?” You waved vaguely in his direction.
“Come on, it’s not so bad,” he said, still entirely too relaxed.
You gasped dramatically. “NOT SO BAD?! WAIT TILL MUM AND DAD HEARS ABOUT THIS.”
For the first time, Mattheo’s smirk faltered.
“You wouldn’t.”
You grinned, hands on your hips. “Oh, I would. And I will. And do you know what’s going to happen? Mum’s going to lecture you for hours about how you should respect my privacy, and then Dad’s going to give you that look—you know the one—and you’re going to feel so guilty that you’ll regret ever opening your stupid mouth at breakfast today.”
Mattheo narrowed his eyes. “You fight dirty.”
You smirked. “I learned from the best.”
For a second, he studied you, weighing his options. Then, with an exaggerated sigh, he held up his hands in surrender.
“Fine, fine,” he muttered. “I’ll try to make this whole thing less of a big deal.”
You eyed him suspiciously. “Define ‘less of a big deal."
“I’ll stop actively encouraging the chaos.”
You pinched the bridge of your nose. “That’s not nearly enough.”
“It’s the best you’re going to get.”
You groaned. “I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes. I do.”
“Nooo,” he said, ruffling your hair. “You loooove me.”
You batted his hand away, grumbling as he laughed.
The damage was already done, and you had no doubt that Hogwarts would still be reeling for weeks, but if nothing else, you had successfully put the fear of mum and dad into Mattheo.
And that, at least, was a small victory.
──── ୨୧ ──────── ୨୧ ────
You should have known walking into the Great Hall with Mattheo was a mistake.
The second the two of you stepped through the doors—side by side, clearly together—the entire room went silent. Forks clattered, conversations died, and then—
“YOU’RE RELATED TO MATTHEO RIDDLE?!”
The voice echoed through the hall like someone had just announced Voldemort’s return.
“Oh, for Merlin’s sake,” you muttered under your breath.
Suddenly, people were standing up, pointing at you like you were some newly discovered magical creature.
“No way!” a Gryffindor shouted.
“A Hufflepuff? A HUFFLEPUFF?” another voice shrieked from the Ravenclaw table.
“Wait, wait—how do we know this isn’t some elaborate prank?” Ernie Macmillan questioned, looking genuinely disturbed.
Across the room, the Gryffindor table was in utter chaos.
“Wait—hold on—WHAT?!” Ron Weasley nearly choked on his pumpkin juice, eyes bulging as he looked between you and Mattheo.
Harry Potter looked equally stunned, glasses slipping down his nose. “No—no way. You’re joking, right?”
Hermione Granger, for the first time in probably ever, was speechless. “This… this can’t be right,” she said, shaking her head as if that would make reality change. “There’s no way—”
“OH MY GOD, IT’S TRUE.” Ron grabbed Harry’s arm, gasping dramatically. “This is the biggest plot twist since we found out Scabbers was a middle-aged man.”
Pansy was the first to react from the Slytherin table, standing up so fast her goblet nearly toppled over. “MATTY, WHAT THE FUCK?” she screeched, rounding on Mattheo, who—shockingly—looked completely at ease, casually biting into an apple like this wasn’t the most shocking revelation since Dumbledore’s questionable sock obsession.
Mattheo merely raised a brow at her outburst. “What?”
Pansy gawked at him. “You—you—you’re telling me that for years, you’ve had a sibling at this school and you just forgot to mention it?”
Mattheo shrugged. “Didn’t forget. Just didn’t care to share.”
Pansy’s shriek of rage was so high-pitched that even the ghosts looked unsettled. “DIDN’T CARE TO SHARE?!”
Blaise was watching the chaos unfold with a smirk, lazily sipping his pumpkin juice. “This is hilarious.”
Draco, on the other hand, was rubbing his temples like he was getting a migraine. “Mattheo, why?”
“Why what?” Mattheo replied, unbothered. “It wasn’t a big deal.”
“Not a big deal?”
Lorenzo Berkshire repeated, eyes flickering between you and Mattheo. “You’ve been throwing punches at anyone who so much as looked at them funny, and you thought that wouldn’t raise questions?”
“I thought it was obvious,” Mattheo said.
You threw your hands up. “OBVIOUS?! OBVIOUS?! MATTY, I HAVE SPENT YEARS MAKING SURE NO ONE KNEW, AND YOU BLEW IT IN TEN SECONDS OVER BREAKFAST!”
Mattheo snorted, completely unapologetic. “I mean, it was bound to happen eventually.”
“Oh my God, I want to strangle you.”
“Sibling love,” he said smugly, tossing an arm around your shoulders.
The Great Hall exploded again.
“You two actually act like siblings—”
“How did we not see this?!”
“I feel like I’m living in an alternate universe,” muttered a Ravenclaw.
Across the room, Neville Longbottom was sitting completely frozen, still holding his fork mid-air. “I think I need to sit down.”
“You’re already sitting,” Seamus pointed out.
“Then I need to lie down.”
Dean looked at you, utterly baffled. “You mean to tell me that Hogwarts’ most violent menace has been related to the softest, most polite Hufflepuff this entire time?”
Mattheo scoffed. “Oi, don’t act like they’re innocent.” He turned to you. “Tell them about the time you hexed that fifth-year for insulting your friend.”
The entire Hufflepuff table gasped in betrayal.
“You WHAT?” Susan Bones shrieked, looking at you like you’d just confessed to murder.
You groaned. “Mattheo, shut up.”
Pansy still wasn’t over the betrayal. “I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU KEPT THIS FROM ME.”
“Why do you care so much?” Mattheo asked, unimpressed.
“BECAUSE I TELL YOU EVERYTHING, YOU ARSE.”
The professors were desperately trying to regain order, but it was not working. Even McGonagall looked exasperated, pinching the bridge of her nose like she was debating retirement.
Dumbledore, meanwhile, was chuckling into his goblet like this was the most entertaining thing he’d seen in years.
Mattheo turned to you with an amused grin. “Well, now they know.”
You stared at him, seething. “You are the worst.”
He smirked. “Love you too, little sibling.”
──── ୨୧ ──────── ୨୧ ────
By the time lunch was over, you were exhausted. The whispers, the stares, the relentless questioning—it was too much. You barely managed to escape the Great Hall before someone else could interrogate you.
Unfortunately, your luck didn’t last long.
Before you could get far, a firm arm wrapped around your waist, pulling you into a familiar warmth.
“For a Hufflepuff,” Cedric Diggory murmured next to your ear, his voice dripping with amusement, “you really had a dramatic reveal.”
You groaned. “Oh, not you too.”
Cedric grinned, resting his chin on your shoulder. “Come on, how could I not comment? The Great Hall was in shambles. I think I saw a first-year question their entire existence.”
You sighed, leaning into him slightly for comfort. “It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.”
“Oh?” Cedric raised a brow. “So you were planning to tell me at some point?”
“...No.”
He laughed, the sound vibrating against you. “Figured.” Then, in a much more mischievous tone, he added, “At least now we know why Mattheo always looked ready to hex me whenever I flirted with you.”
You stiffened.
Wait.
What?
Cedric pulled back slightly, watching as your brain short-circuited. “Oh? You didn’t know?”
You stared at him in horror. “Cedric. What the hell are you talking about?"
Cedric just smirked. “Mattheo glares a lot, but I always wondered why his hexing hand twitched whenever I got too close to you.”
Your soul left your body.
“Diggory,” you said slowly, dread pooling in your stomach. “How many times have you flirted with me in front of Mattheo?”
He hummed, pretending to think. “Dunno. Ten? Twenty? Maybe more?”
You buried your face on Cedric's shoulder. “Oh my God.”
Cedric chuckled, giving your waist one last playful squeeze before finally stepping away. “You should probably talk to him before he decides to challenge me to a duel.”
“Cedric,” you groaned, already feeling a headache coming.
But Cedric just winked and strolled off like he hadn’t just shattered your entire existence.
Meanwhile, across the courtyard, Mattheo was watching.
And judging by the way his jaw clenched when Cedric touched you, you were about to have a very long conversation with your brother.

Dear Diary || Cedric Diggory
Tumblr media
Cedric Diggory x fem!reader || 5.2k words, fluff-ish, banter and awkward confessions !
Reader and Ced are both seventh years and Ced is head boy!
Warnings: slow and sappy smut, unprotected p-in-v, clothed sex , first times !!!
Summary: Cedric finds your diary, what's the worst that could happen?
---------
Cedric was idly perusing the shelves of the library on one fine afternoon, if the wads of homework given and expected to be completed by the end of the Easter holidays were not taken into account. He sought for some books that he could use as reference for his essay in History of Magic, a particularly tricky one, on famous and historical duels.
Though, his initial intentions were long forgotten as he noticed something. His attention was drawn to a small, forgotten notebook left on one of the study tables. He looked around to see if any sign of the owner was around. Once the coast was clear, he took it as a go-signal. Carefully, he picked it up with curiosity as he examined the notebook.
The cover was brown, its material being that of leather. It had a few tears, but it looked okay enough to be passed as a choice of style. It is decorated with intricate golden patterns on it, engraved with small jewels for design. The bottom was labelled with your name handwritten on, and the pages seemed to be slightly tarnished. He assumed you had kept it for a couple years or so.
But what was most intriguing was that it had been padlocked shut. He figured out that it was no ordinary notebook, probably a diary of sorts, piquing his interest.
As much as he knows not to stick his nose in things he is not supposed to, he couldn’t help but feel interested in what was not supposed to be of his concern. He was not going to tell anyone what’s inside, nor was he going to judge— it is not like you would know either if he did look through it.
But, he supposed a little peak would not hurt, right? He is going to give it back the next time he sees you, anyway.
Though, it was locked… It is nothing a simple alohomora charm could not fix. He pulled out his wand and pointed it towards the lock. He gave it a flick, chanting the spell out quietly. The padlock fell on the floor with a dull thud. He picked it up and stuffed it in his pocket, to seal it up afterwards to conceal any trace of him ever snooping around.
He flipped through the pages, becoming increasingly fascinated with what he read, some even dating back to seven years. Family issues, random stuff about life at Hogwarts, such as rants about homework, housemates and whatnot. The first thirty pages was about you mainly figuring out things back then as a first year, and a bunch of things you were astonished to discover.
It was really what your typical teenage girl would write; little things such as that cat you tried to pet in the first year that turned out to be Professor McGonagall, hallway crushes, that time you snuck in the restricted area of the library, so on— and the mundaneness of everyday life. It was pretty much a bunch of stuff about what goes on during your days.
When he got to the fourth year, he started seeing his name being brought up occasionally— he of course, stopped on those pages to read them— interested in what your perspective on him was. He started with the first page mentioning him:
DEAR DIARY,
I met this guy named Cedric Diggory. He’s popular, tall and good-looking too..
He helped me out with my herbology homework. I was really struggling, good thing he stepped in. Though, maybe I was too busy staring at him to really pay attention to what he was teaching me. (Well, who can blame me???)
I know so many girls who would kill to have that happen to them. Wonder what got me so lucky today, maybe those Lumos Lucksweets I ate last night that I got from Honeydukes during Halloween.
I always thought he was cute, though I always felt too intimidated to approach him. Hopefully we can become friends.
He felt a bit surprised, a faint blush tainting his cheeks as he smiled softly. He would be oblivious if he didn’t know he was sought after by both women and men, albeit it still doesn’t make him any less flustered.  You were one of his friends, yes, but he had never stopped to think that you thought of him in that way. You didn’t make it obvious either.
He mostly skimmed through its pages, but stopped to read whenever he saw his name brought up– about how you talked about each of your interactions; “Cedric helped me with…” “Cedric and I went out to…” “I think I like him..” Cedric this, Cedric that.
You like him. Or liked him. It only clicked with him now, though he would have to keep reading if he wanted to know if you still felt the same. (Because he definitely did.) Be that as it may, he still definitely had no idea on how to confess. Plus, it was too late to turn back any time now. He continued to leaf through its contents.
But it was not until he got to last year’s pages that some things really stuck out. At first it was about wanting to kiss him on the cheek as you sat beside him in the library whilst you two studied for your transfiguration exam. Then the next time you talked about it being on the lips.
You even went into detail how you thought his lips would feel, then it was about how you so badly wanted to make out with him after you watched him after his quidditch practice because in your words, not his–
He looked so hot.
The more he read through, the material written within progressively escalated. Soon, it was about how you felt guilty by using the thought of him as a means to get off.
Now I feel guilty. Yes, I know– it is wrong of me to finger myself at the thought of my really really really hot friend who I also happen to have a crush on, no I’m not being sarcastic, yes, it was just once. Just this ONCE, I got carried away… Oh Merlin, I’m so sorry, Cedric.
He actually found it quite adorable how you were apologising in a diary. He was also extremely flustered at this point, a little bit horny and at the same time, confused. He nonetheless continued, reading several entries about how you admitted to having several fantasies of you being fucked by Cedric, what you think he would be like in bed, yada yada yada.
You admit throughout several logs that what was supposed to be a one-time thing, turned into nightly endeavours filled with a big ounce of shame afterwards.
Once he felt content, he got the padlock and clicked it back in place as if nothing ever happened, and took it with him as he went on his way. He figured it was best that he give it back the next time he ran into you.
Aside from that, his day passed by quite like any ordinary one, though he hadn’t seen you at all. On his way down to the Great Hall, he caught a glimpse of you walking whilst talking to some of your friends– though you quickly disappeared into the crowd of students flocking towards the hall for dinner.
Afterwards, most students are headed towards the library or their respective common rooms, Cedric ought to do the same.
Meanwhile you were searching every nook and cranny of everywhere you had been within the entire day, searching for that damned diary since the afternoon. You had traced back your steps to the beginning of the day, starting off with the common rooms, the great hall, then you had snuck into the several classrooms you were in earlier. In the potions dungeon, you were almost caught by Snape, you hid in time (you pride yourself on being an absolute pro at hide and seek) and just by the skin of your teeth.
You would stop at nothing until you actually find it, the thought of someone else getting your diary sends shivers down your spine. You just hope if someone did, they’d have enough of a sense of privacy and decency not to look through it. If this keeps up, You would have to be looking throughout the entire night and without being caught at that.
You doubt any of the staff would actually care about finding it if you had simply asked. You had tried that once when you lost one of your textbooks, you managed to find it, no thanks to anyone but yourself.  And you would think if you would ask any of your professors, they’d probably say (the textbook) was miles more important than some journal with sentimental value.
Before you knew it, you were definitely up past curfew hours. Currently in the library, you were looking everywhere– on and under each of the chairs and tables, the shelves, you were seriously considering going to check the restricted section if you were not able to find it here. Perhaps the librarian thought it was a book, too. You froze in your place as you heard footsteps other than yours echoing as someone entered the library.
Cedric was doing his rounds and surprisingly, tonight was not that half-bad. No pesky students loitering around, so far that is. Currently surveying the corridors, classrooms– he is now heading towards the library, hearing faint shuffling noises coming from the sound of it. So it was not a quiet night after all, he thought. He placed his bets on who he thought it was this time, and the lot of students who regularly snuck out was not much to choose from anyway.
Though, he was completely wrong this time. It was you. He flashes you a grin, nearly forgetting his duties as Head Boy to supposedly escort you back to your dorm since it was late hour. He could also give your diary back while he was at it, he was getting tired of having to cling on to it just at the chance he would run into you. But he had thought to strike up a conversation first, because why not?
“Hey,” Cedric greeted you, approaching you slowly. “Hi,” you gulped and said awkwardly. You interrupt him before he could even say a word, “I-I know what this looks like,” you stammer, figuring out the right words to say as you try reasoning with him. “It sounds like a ridiculous thing to ask of you, I know– but don’t tell anyone,” as you speak, you’re also in plenty of disbelief that the literal head boy of all people would give you leeway for sneaking out like thi. Even if he is your friend, and even if it were just once.
“And why shouldn’t I?” He said so casually, as if you two were having a normal conversation; as if he were not on patrol at all and he hadn’t caught you outside your dormitory past the given curfew. He also knew damn well why, it was just fun eliciting a reaction from you. He was of course going to eventually give it back. “It’s so late, you should at least be in your common room around this time, you know?” He points out as well.
“Well, for one, I’ve been a good student this year, this is the only time I snuck out.. And, I have a reason for sneaking out–! It’s not for anything bad, I promise, it’s just I’ve been looking for my damn diary the entire day.. I must’ve lost it somewhere– look, I swear I’ll go back to the dorms right now if you please, please, don’t tell me out to anybody.”
You begged him, clasping your hands together for dramatic effect as you gave him those puppy eyes you use whenever you wanted something from him. (Such as when you begged him to buy whatever you wanted when you two went to Zonko’s that one time. P.S. It worked.)
“You mean this thing?” he said slyly. As he pulled out your diary, he gave a look of mischievousness. He watched as your eyebrows raise up, a look of relief plastered on your face as you sigh. You walk towards him, extending out your arms as you make grabby hands. “Oh, yes! Yes, that’s the one, now if you could just give it back–” then, that’s when you get cut off.
“Ah, ah, now wait just a moment,” he said, raising the arm with your diary in his hand so you couldn’t reach it. “I’ll let you off, and I’ll give it back if,” taking a deep breath before he spoke again, wondering if he should really be doing this. It was now or never. “You give me a kiss.”
He found it really amusing as a blush formed on your face, completely flustered as your eyes widened in a look with a mix of shock and disbelief. You had stopped grabbing for your diary, as you opened your mouth to say something, but you were rendered completely speechless. Was this just a dream? Surely it was, it was too good to be true…
“Ha, ha. Very funny, Cedric,” you fake-laugh, your tone being fully sarcastic. Seeing if he is just playing around with you. “No way in hell I would,” you add, just in case he really was joking. (Maybe you have slight trust issues.) “Just give it back.” Despite that, he looked dead serious. He stared you down, not breaking eye contact, making you gulp nervously. “Please?”
“Oh, come on,” he says as his voice drops, sounding more sultry. “I’m not gonna do anything unless you let me, but I know you want to.” His eyes observe your lips. As much as he wanted to, he didn’t touch you at all since you hadn’t given your consent yet. He kept his hands to himself, letting his body language do the talking.
“Now what makes you say that?” You squint your eyes as you give a questioning look at him, acting, or trying to at least, unaffected. You still had your guard up, because seriously, what was up with this guy today?
“Now, why’re you acting like you don’t want it? Hmm?” He smirked, “Could make all those fantasies of yours in that little book come true, you know.”
You looked mortified, as if you had seen a ghost. The last bits of your dignity withered away, long gone at this point. You wanted to shrivel up and sob in a corner out of pure humiliation. He read your diary. “No way, you read it!?” You slap his arm as you cover your face in sheer embarrassment. “Privacy exists, you know–!” Cedric let out a guttural laugh, unable consistently to keep up his flirty demeanour. “Hey, better me than anyone else, right? Besides,” he leaned on one of the bookshelves.
“I like you.”
If you thought you couldn’t get any redder, you were awfully wrong. You didn’t know what to say, as you practically threw yourself at him in an embrace. “I like you too…” you said, your voice muffled as your face was buried in his chest. “This is so embarrassing.”
He wasted no time in hugging you back, his arms wrapped around you. It was like you put on a warm blanket. You two stayed like that for a while, enjoying eachothers company. The moment of silence was interrupted as he said, “I should probably ask properly.” You look up at him, waiting for what he has to say. “Will you be my girlfriend?” He finally says.
“What do you think?” A rhetorical question.
“I need a yes or no, not a ‘what do you think’.”
“If you actually read my diary, you already have your answer.”
“Well then, it’s official,” he smiles. “Can I get that kiss now?” He says impatiently. You waste no time, tipping on your toes as you press your lips against his, placing your hands on his broad shoulders. He wraps his hands around your waist, pushing you softly against a bookcase. It was chaste and passionate, as your lips intertwined as you two kissed in a slow rhythm.
You pull away, catching your breath. “By the way, this doesn’t mean I forgive you for reading my diary,” you blurt out, Cedric chuckling at that.
Before you knew it, he was grabbing your wrist and leading you to his dorm room. It was clear to the both of you where this situation was going. As you walked together, your heart raced in anticipation, a mix of excitement and nervousness flooded your senses. You both stopped in your tracks as you reached a portrait, that of Helena Ravenclaw’s. He mumbled the password and the portrait swung open, walking in whilst ducking his head over the small entrance and motioning you to come in as well.
You assumed this was the heads’ common room, it was circular and decorated quite lavishly. If it were not for Cedric, you would have taken more time to admire the interior. It was definitely plenty grand compared to the regular ones. Though, you quickly were grounded back into the situation as he led you to his dorm– Head Boy’s–completely away from prying eyes. Oh, bless Cedric for being head boy and whoever decided that heads should have their own room.
He slams the door shut behind you two, pinning you to it. Tension flooded the room, it was practically suffocating. He wastes no time, cupping your chin as he tilts your head slightly upward to make you look at him. He leaned in for a second kiss, your lips puzzle together once more. His hand interlocked with yours tightly as he held it up against the door panel, keeping you in place.
It was not as innocent as it was the first time, in fact quite the opposite– amorous. It was far from perfect, given both of you were not experienced. All your knowledge came from things such as muggle films, you think.
You remembered how they opened their mouths slightly, imitating what you saw in fiction. You slowly gaped open your mouth, Cedric immediately getting the hint as he slid his tongue inside. You both attempted to swirl each other's tongues together, yet it was more clashing your tongues together with no rhythm whatsoever, in hoping something just works. Though it didn't make it any less hot, if anything, it was more.
It was awfully sappier than one would might like, but you two were both (not-so hopeless anymore) romantics. Perhaps it was the entire three years of obliviousness and pining for each other being poured into this moment. Though, given what you two are about to do, it is a bit fast for an official relationship. Well, yeah, as much as you just got together.. You both couldn’t help it nor wait anymore, not wanting to waste any more time, not after so many years with your feelings going unsaid.
He took heavier breaths, grabbing ahold of your waist as he pressed himself closer against you. You both flushed, a bit embarrassed and nervousness surging through your veins as you gasped when his half-chubbed dick pressed against just above your groin. You couldn’t deny– you felt scared, a bit hesitant but you knew you wanted this more than anything.
While you still kissed, you both toed off your shoes and made a beeline for the bed (a sad attempt). Because your senses of navigation clearly dwindled, not a care in the world but each other. You two accidentally bumped into one of the small tables, knocking down some of the books that lay on them. “Oops,” Cedric said lightheartedly. Pulling the both of you out of the moment momentarily, you two laughed and just chalked it up to fixing it later.
Finally reaching the four-poster (which was a lot bigger than the regular ones), even if it were a few feet away from where you two initially were, it was quite the journey. Cedric, who was the one leading out of the two of you, practically tripped you both into bed as he rested atop you. “Ced!” You squealed, “you’re crushing me!” light-heartedly, you say, as you jab at his chest playfully, in an attempt to push him off.
“Well..not my problem, princess,” he laughed as he buried his face into your neck. Sucking and nipping at the flesh, leaving red marks on you as he placed a kiss on each one to seal them afterwards. “May I…?” He says, his hand trailing up to grab onto the hem of your tie, ready to pull it off. You give him a small, silent nod. He takes his time with you, as if he were unwrapping a huge present.
He begins by pulling off your tie, discarding the article of clothing to a random corner of the room. The same goes for your robes, sweater, dress shirt…all long gone and forgotten. You were merely left with your undergarments and skirt on, as well as your socks. He stops dead in his tracks, taking a step back as he takes the sight of you in.
“I forgot to tell you how beautiful you are.” He says each word clear as day– you’ve never heard anyone more confident in your life. You blush profusely, hands covering your face to conceal it. “I’ll die from those compliments before you actually start doing anything, you know?” You babble, too florid to think of words to form.
He trails his hand, leading it down to your underwear, tugging down at the hem of it as to pull them off. “Sorry, sorry,” he says, though not a hint of apology in his voice. You mutter something about him not being forgiven, ouch, so now he has two things he is yet to be forgiven for. He just smiles innocently back at you, lips all pouty as you pretend to sulk about it. (Obviously jokingly) When in fact, you wallow in the praise.
He leans into your ear as his hands now teasing at your folds, you let out a soft moan at his touch. “Guess I’ll have to make it up to you, huh?” He says in a low, gravelly voice. Which had absolutely no right to sound that hot. “Please, Ced,” you say, trying not to sound like you were begging for it. “Wait,” he stops, getting up and begins to rummage through his drawer, looking for something. You look at him quizzically, wondering what he is doing and looking slightly disappointed at the loss of sensation.
After a few more seconds, he pulls out a small vial of a clear flaxen liquid and examines it before walking back to you. “Um, I’m really sorry, d’you think this’ll do?” He shows you the vial, which you had assumed to be a natural oil of sorts. “I, er, don’t have any lube.” He says awkwardly. “I mean, if you’re not comfortable we don’t have to–” You cut him off immediately, quickly divulging that, “No, no, we– we can. I’m fine with it.” Okay, you definitely sounded a bit desperate. He nods, uncorking the vial as he coats his fingers with a fair amount.
“I’ve never done this before,” he says, prodding two fingers at your pussy. “Just– just tell me if it hurts, okay? Tap my shoulder two times if you can’t speak.” You nod, and with that, he eases in slowly his fingers, your breath hitching as you feel his fingers slip inside you. It feels uncomfortable, causing you to shift in your position slightly. Cedric quickly stops inching his fingers inside as he asks if you’re okay. You tell him that you’re fine and to keep going, assuring yourself and him that it is normal. Hopefully you’ll get used to the feeling.
He continues, eventually now fully inside you. “Let me know when, um, I can move them, okay?” He says caringly, not an inch of attention wavering away from you. After a bit, you give him the go-signal to move and he starts dragging his fingers out of you, albeit slowly, and pushing them back inside. He watches you attentively, carefully studying your expressions, your body language– His erection was straining against his pants at this point, begging to be freed, but of course he wanted to make sure you were thoroughly prepared.
“Ah, Ced, mhh, maybe if you curl your fingers a–ah bit–” you moan, still feeling a slight discomfort and pain, though pleasure slowly seeps through. “Like this?” He says, as he curls his fingers inside you, moving in and out with languid strokes. You let out a particular wince, though you nodded in approval. “Yes, just like that– ah,”
It was not anything you were not used to, though you always felt guilty whenever you did such things to yourself. Especially if your only barrier to privacy is the curtains on your four-poster. Though it took a bit of adjusting, because Cedric’s fingers were no doubt bigger than yours. You feel your stomach curling, the feeling of release catching on to you. Cedric must have had a sixth sense, or really good observational skills (perhaps all that astronomy paid off.) because he pulled his fingers out of you the moment you were about to. You whine instinctively in response.
Before you knew it, he was getting rid of his sweater, taking off his tie and unbuttoning his dress shirt, tossing the apparel in the same corner where your clothes went, though leaving his unbuttoned shirt on. You watched his every movement intently, feeling yourself getting wet at the sight of him undressing. He is tall, lean, and burly– has a good build from all that quidditch. Amen for that.
Your eyes begin to linger down to his trousers, and a very obvious bulge that you can’t help but stare at. He continues by unzipping his fly, though not pulling down his pants. He tugged at his grey boxers just enough to release his cock from its confines, coating it with a light layer of the oil he had used earlier. You could not help but stare, your pupils dilated, clouding your eyes darkly with arousal. He crawls in between your legs as he now hovers atop you. He aligned his cock, tip pressing into the folds of your pussy.
“M’nervous,” you mumble, almost nonsensically, though Cedric understood what you had tried to say. He leans in, placing a kiss on your forehead as he gently caresses your cheek, “If you’re feeling pressured, we don’t have to, y’know. We can just… Stop here, we can continue another time if you’d like, when you’re ready.” He says softly, warmth naturally oozing through his voice like honey, sweet and assuring.
“No,” you say, quiet but firmly. “I want to.”
“Then we will, just tell me when you’re ready. I’ll be gentle.” He says, and his words make all your worries slowly ebb away. You feel safe with Cedric. You press your hips down onto his dick ever so slightly, letting the tip slide in. You gasp at the foreign feeling, nervous to fully take it all in. He notices, and as well lets out a soft moan, asking if he has permission to continue. You breathily say a yes, and that’s when he unhurriedly starts to push inside you.
It feels completely new, slightly painful with a twinge of pleasure. You shut your eyes, wincing at the sensation. Cedric examines your expressions as he inches in, checking for any signs of discomfort. He stops for a moment to ask if you’re okay, noticing your brows knitting together with your eyes shut. You assure him you’re fine, and tell him to keep going.
Eventually, he bottoms out inside you, though he doesn’t move immediately. You two just sit there for a good minute or two, kissing softly as your lips move in unison. Pulling away, panting as you say, “m-move, please,”
And who is Cedric to deny you of that? He began moving his hips slowly and shallowly, not wanting you to take too much at once. You also started getting a bit used to the feeling, though it was still mostly new to you. It didn’t feel as painful as it did, moaning in pleasure as he moved his hips.
He then pulled out his cock, teasing you, and easing back in steadily, causing you to moan wantonly out loud. His thrusts still slow, but begin to get deeper as he holds your legs open. He was vocal too, nothing short of chanting your name and praising you in a gravelly voice, groaning and grunting ruggedly as he fucked his cock far into you.
“You’re such a good girl f’me,” he pants, both of you moaning as he rocked his dick back into you with a particularly deep thrust. While the discomfort still remained, you grew more accustomed to the feeling of gratification that grew increasingly.“Ha– ah, harder, Ced,” you say, gasping in between your words. He did nothing shy of it, but not anything that he felt like would be too much for you.
“Merlin, y’feel so good,” he says huskily, moving his hips rhythmically slow, hard and deep as you’re reduced into a moaning mess. Your arms flail to the side of your head, grasping on the sheets as you arch your back. You were mumbling nonsensically, and Cedric laughed breathily as he told you how cute you were. He could only barely make out what seemed to be an I love you. “I love you too, princess,” he groans as he leans in and leaves a few more marks on your collarbone and neck.
You splay your hands onto his back. Digging your nails into his skin, leaving marks of your own though unintentionally. You drag your nails down his broad back, grabbing onto him as he knocks the wind out of you with each thrust.
You feel a fire pooling low in your abdomen, as well as the heightening sense of arousal as Cedric kept thrusting inside you. You feel your pussy tighten around him, “Mmh, Ced, I think I’m gonna–!” You squeal, Cedric grabs your hips and quickened his pace by a bit. “Go on, sweetheart.” He says low, letting his breath into your ear, moving down to kiss your neck. Reaching your limit, you feel your orgasm ripple through you.
Cedric kept going, though you could tell he was close, too– his thrusts growing sloppy as the echo of skin to skin and moans  from the both of you filled the room. His hips jerked a few more times as he finally sheathed fully and deep into you, as you two let out a long, drawn out moan as he was spilling his load inside your pussy.
Clenching around his cock greedily, it’s as if you were going to wring him dry. You feel the way his cock pulses as he cums in you, a white ring pooling around the base of his cock with your mixed juices as it trickles down your folds.
He collapses atop you, letting his head rest between your breasts as he’s still inside you. You two lay like that for a while, basking in the silence of the afterglow. You suddenly interrupt as you say, “Okay, maybe I forgive you..”
He smiles and scoffs at that. Eventually, he pulls out and lays beside you, cuddling you from behind as you two exchange ‘I love you’s’ as you two drift off into sleep.

The Tri-Wizard Tournament was just around the corner, a prestigious, dangerous tradition between the Wizarding Schools.
As one of the top students at Ilvermorny, the Northern American school of witchcraft and wizardry, you were among the delegation of students observing the tournament at Hogwarts this year.
Upon arriving, you immediately noticed the differences between the schools. Hogwarts buzzed with liveliness and laughter in stark contrast to Ilvermorny's rigorous focus and silence.
As Dumbledore began introducing each school, you listened eagerly behind the Beauxbaton girls until you heard your cue.
"Welcome Ilvermoney, from Northern America!"
The hall erupted into applause and cheers as your delegation burst into the hall, performing impressive charm work to showcase Ilvermorney's magical prowess.
Among the first students to enter, you cast your charms and glided across the floor effortlessly, following suit of your Headmistress as you made your way to the front of the hall. Simultaneously, you took in the sight of all the Hogwarts students, their colors blending in seamlessly as many curious looks were directed your way.
Just then, your gaze locked with a striking pair of grey eyes–a warmth beginning to spread within you.
A boy in yellow, with a charming smile adorning his face, stared at you intensely, his pupils seemingly getting brighter the longer he held eye contact with you. His silky brown hair was slightly tousled, contrasting his neatly put-together robes.
Seeing this mysterious boy made your heart skip a beat, and seeing you, so did his. But you quickly refocused to avoid messing up the routine and infuriating your Headmistress, completing your part with precision.
Still, as the applause of the Great Hall filled the air after your entrance ended, you couldn't help but glance back in the boy's direction.
To your surprise, he was still staring at you.
The announcements for the Tri-Wizard Champions were approaching fast. Everyone was on edge, placing bets on who they thought would be chosen.
You quickly learned that the boy staring at you was none other than Cedric Diggory, a well-liked boy at Hogwarts with a rather enthusiastic fan club.
Most bets were placed on him, Angelina Johnson–a talented quidditch player you've talked to once–and a few others whose names you couldn't quite recall. Many students, however, were bummed out by the age limit, including some of your new friends: the 'Golden Trio' and the ever-mischievous Weasley twins.
"Come on, Cedric. Put it in!" a student shouted, pushing him forward toward the age line where the goblet of fire was placed. You were sitting beside Hermoine chatting idly when his group of supporters practically shoved him into the circle.
Cedric smirked as the crowd eagerly watched him, not yet noticing your presence before turning to face the goblet. But as he approached, he caught your eye.
Cedric's steps faltered for a moment, his gaze lingering on your face before flashing you a flirtatious smile and dropping his name into the flames, attempting to impress you with his courageousness.
And to no surprise, it worked.
You were so distracted by Cedric's lingering stare and his dashing smile that you hadn't noticed Fred and George Weasley preparing their scheme to outsmart the age line.
“It’s not going to work,” Hermione muttered with a knowing sigh, rolling her eyes as the twins popped into view with their usual shenanigans.
"Oh, yeah?" George grinned.
"And why is that Granger?" Fred added, finishing each other's thoughts.
The brunette huffed before pointing at a faint white ring surrounding the goblet.
"You see that? That is an age line. Dumbledore drew it himself", she said as if that alone explained the futility of their plan.
"You really think you could fool Dumbledore?"
You nodded in agreement, amused by their determination. But despite Hermione’s warning, the twins proceeded to act out their plan: drinking an unknown potion and crossing the line anyway, only to be flung back spectacularly. The entire hall roared with laughter as not only did their botched potion leave them with beards, but the two brothers began scrambling to blame each other.
Hours later, after dinner had wrapped up, the time finally came for the selection of the champions.
As expected, Cedric, Fleur, and Krum were chosen by the goblet and called to represent their respective schools. But just as you thought it was over, two more names shot out of the Goblet. To your shock, one of them was your own, and the other, Harry Potter.
Your mind reeled. How did your name end up in the Goblet? You were only supposed to be observing, not competing. All eyes turned toward you and Harry as you nervously made your way toward the other champions. Cedric included as he too couldn't fathom how your name was entered into the goblet.
As you walked forward, you met your headmistress’s gaze. She looked at you with an expression of confusion and disapproval, but there was no turning back now.
Though you hadn't expected this, the competitive spirit that Ilvermorny had fostered in you began to surface. You weren’t one to back down from a challenge, and whatever lay ahead, you would face it head-on.
The day after the selection, things were beginning to get more hectic. Ron and Harry were arguing, the Weasley twins kept pestering you about how you got your name entered, and some of your classmates began making snide comments–calling you "cheater" and "show-off".
It was getting to you. You just needed a break away from everyone.
But, as you were making your way back to your room, trying to figure out your next steps now that the first task was being kept a closely guarded secret, a warm voice called out behind you.
"Hey, you!"
You turned around, instantly meeting those familiar grey eyes. A smile tugged at your lips.
"Cedric."
The boy’s lips curled into a smile–at the fact that you knew his name–as he jogged up to you, slightly out of breath.
"I've got something you might find useful for the first task," he said, a playful gleam in his eyes. Suddenly feeling bold, you stepped closer. Your face now inches from his, teasing him slightly.
"Oh? And what's that, Diggory?" you asked, your curiosity peaked.
He leaned in, voice dropping to a whisper. "The first task. It's dragons."
You noticed the way his eyes flickered across your face, a nervous swallow betraying his calm demeanor as he quickly glanced away and stepped back to regain his composure.
"Hagrid showed Harry earlier, and he ended up telling me. Thought I’d give you a heads-up... since out of all the champions, I’m rooting for you to make it through," he added with a wink before turning to leave.
You smiled as you watched him walk away, your heart racing with both excitement and anticipation–not just because of the tournament, but because you knew you were going to start liking Cedric, more than you cared to admit.
Unknowingly to you, he also began to feel the exact same way.
You were grateful Cedric had warned you about the first task. Normally you were confident in everything you did, but as your turn approached your anxiety spiked. To top it off, you were finding it difficult to face the reality that you were up against the Hungarian Horntail—the most dangerous of all the dragons.
"It's almost your turn, [your name]" your Headmistress called, peeking through the curtains as she watched Fleur narrowly escape with the golden egg in her hands. The crowd's cheers confirmed her success.
"Three of our champions have now faced their dragon and so each one of them shall proceed to the next task! And now, our fourth contestant from Ilvermorny," Dumbledore's voice boomed, "[your name]!"
Taking a deep breath, you rose from your seat next to Harry, whispering, "Wish me luck, Potter," before stepping into the arena. Anxiety swirled your chest as you got closer, but you kept your composure as the large applause to your appearance washed over you. You spotted some of your classmates cheering in the stands–Hermoine and Ron smiling with thumbs up and of course, Cedric clapping in the front row, cheering your name. But sat next to him was a girl in blue who looked at you with cold indifference.
It was unsettling–just the realization that strangers who didn't know you had already fostered a sense of hatred towards you. But, you pushed it aside, refocusing on the task. The golden egg gleamed a few feet ahead of you, but before you could move any closer, a thunderous roar echoed from behind sending chills down your spine. There it was: the Hungarian Horntail flaring its nostrils and preparing to lunge in your direction. Before it could pounce on you, you veered to the left, casting weak spells as you ran; Most missed, and those that landed only inflicted minimal damage.
Panic proceeded to bubble up inside you as the scent of smoke began to fill the air—the dragon was preparing to unleash its deadly flames. Quickly, you bolted and hid behind a large rock.
But then you had an idea. A risky one, but if successful would stun the dragon.
From your cover, you sprang out, shouting, "Glacius!" Ice formed in the dragon's throat, cutting off its fiery breath. The crowd roared seeing the dragon struggle and thrash its neck around. Seizing the moment, you then cast "Depulso!" sending rocks and debris hurtling toward the creature, knocking it backward and creating more distance between you two.
This gave you a critical opening.
With the dragon momentarily dazed, you sprinted full speed toward the golden egg.
Though its flames were silenced, the beast still swung at you, its massive claws just missing as it gained on you. Casting a few more spells to slow it down, you found yourself just a few feet from your goal. Simultaneously in the stands, Cedric watched with clenched fists, his expression torn between admiration and worry, as he watched the dragon attempt to take hits at you.
He had only just begun to like you, and seeing you in such danger made his heart pound like crazy.
Luckily for you though, with a final burst of energy, you lunged forward and were able to snatch the golden egg, narrowly dodging the dragon’s sweeping tail. The crowd erupted into thunderous applause and Cedric shot to his feet, cheering louder than anyone– oblivious to the jealous glares from the girl beside him and the confused glances from his fan club.
But as he stood there, his heart pounding, Cedric couldn't shake the feeling of relief that washed over him. You two were supposed to be competing against each other, yet all he cared about was knowing you were safe. Why did he feel so much lighter, so much happier, just watching you succeed?
Perhaps it wasn’t about competition anymore. Somewhere between his stolen glances and quiet admiration, you had already begun to charm your way into his heart. And now, knowing he’d have more time in your presence, that thought alone was enough to make him forget the tournament, the rivalries, and the jealous stares around him.
All that mattered was you.

is an intentional romantic. ced doesn’t date casually—if he asks you out, it means he’s genuinely interested in you
always asks if you’re comfortable. he knows everyone has boundaries, and he's super respectful about it!!!
waits outside your classroom just to walk you to your next one
compliments with genuine thought
"there’s this look you get when you talk about [interest]… it’s really lovely. you should smile like that more :)"
likes seeing your name next to his; it's all over the margins of his textbooks
he's sappy.
seeks you out first after a match, win or lose
pulls you into the kind of hug that lifts you off the ground a little the moment he gets off his broom
asks how you thought he did first
BUT not in a fishing-for-praise way—he just cares what you think!
is very, VERY big on pda
constant hand-holding! but always gentle, like he’s asking permission with each brush of his fingers
kisses your forehead with so much love
braids flowers into your hair.. clumsily
but he's focused, with his tongue poking out in concentration and everything!
+ the eyes never lie chico
always carries extra gloves or a scarf for you during winter
whispers ‘i love you’ when he thinks you’re asleep
which he does it so soft and honestly, his voice barely above a breath, like a secret just for you
takes you out to dates that are never loud or overdone, but always sweet and personal!
..such as charming lanterns for a picnic near the black lake or stargazing with you after a hogsmeade trip <3
remembers EVERY. SINGLE. THING.
anniversaries, inside jokes, how you like your tea, the exact amount of jam you like to put on your bread, details from the stories about your vacation, you name it
..or the way you looked at him the first time he knew he was falling for you <3
writes you little notes and folds them into origami figures
overall isn’t loud about love—but is always present. he doesn't need everyone to know you’re his—he just needs you to know it 🫶🏼

Pairing: Cedric Diggory x Fem!Grumpy!Hufflepuff!Reader
Summary: No thing defines a man like love that makes him soft. 1.2k words
Warnings: fluff, established relationship, sunshine x grumpy, banter, two dumb idiots in lolololoove
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You knew why someone like Cedric had been invited to this dinner, but as he drags you up to the sixth floor you can't help but wonder why someone like you might be. Especially with your fingers so tenderly laced together. Just right the way his pulse presses to yours.
What's a slug club anyway. Some gathering of generations of greatness. It makes sense that a name like Cedric Diggory would make the list: star Hufflepuff Seeker, Triwizard runner-up, not to mention a charmer even without a wand. But you'd been devising reasons why Slughorn might believe you'd go on to become some famous—or, perhaps infamous—witch.
"Quit fretting, you'll tire yourself out before the tea's served," Cedric coos, cresting the top of the stairs and tugging you close behind. He whips around suddenly with a dashing bright smile on his gentle face.
"I know," you grumble, "just can't help but... wonder? It sounds silly, but what if Slughorn made a mistake—"
"You're right, it does sound silly, so I'll spare you the embarrassment of continuing." He turns you round, whisking you into a nook along the hall on the way to the office where the dinner is to be held.
You gaze at him in the dim winter light, fighting a shiver when his fingers brush an eyelash from your cheek.
"If we run, we'll make it back to the dormitories before anyone notices," you whisper. You're all butterflies at the suggestion, knowing he'll be disappointed. He's only ever wanted what was best for you. And since you accepted his romantic pursuits, you've become his full-time responsibility.
"Or we can walk into that room, enjoy quiet conversation, and then leave having earned social connections and a few more people who know I'm yours entirely."
You roll your eyes, but your smile betrays you.
"You're so," you groan, grabbing his waist and snarling, "good! Can't you misbehave or act miserably or even speak poorly of someone just once?"
Just then, his eyes catch the light. A fleeting flicker, really. A rogue candle flame in the playful glint of his gaze, but you catch it, and he leans closer, caging you against the wall.
"Depends on your idea of misbehaving," he whispers.
"I've a sneaky feeling you have your own ideas, Diggory."
His heart flutters at the temptation in your voice, in your warmth, in your hands curled into his waist. Like the first time he ever kissed you, he leans close again, a hitch in his breath when his lips finally meet yours in a spark. From there, it's all muscle memory and the tandem beat of your hearts. He stops his hands from slipping any lower down your pretty dress. The same one he zipped up the curve of your back not an hour ago.
What he'd give to misbehave like that. Here. In the face of responsibility and important arrangements. To misbehave for your sake, just because you begged. Asked, really, but he'd drop everything just the same if it was only a vague suggestion. If he could somehow read your mind, he'd bend to your every whim and you'd never have to utter a word.
In losing track of himself, he sighs. Right into the softness of your mouth because he knows you know how he likes your fingers twisted in his soft, chestnut hair. You do just that and grin when he grows noisy like you knew he would.
"Hello?" A curious, soprano voice calls from the stairwell.
"Shit," you hiss. You pull away when his resilience won't let him, the butt of your skull meeting the hard stone with a thud. "Ow."
"Are you hurt?" he whispers, ushering you further into the cranny and cradling your head in his palm. Your fingers hold his wrist and you chuckle at the sheen of his wet mouth in the firelight. He presses his sure palm to your lips to muffle the raucous sound. "Merlin's Beard, you've gone loopy. I'll heal you with a kiss!"
"Is someone there?" The voice whines again.
His lips only serve to make you cackle harder into the darkness, it's no help that he's grinning now, too. If that voice belongs to a ghoul or a vengeful spirit, they'll have to answer to your wrath before they're allowed to pass. Though, as of now, your wrath is characterized by a fit of giggles and sighs at the mercy of his mouth.
Footsteps clack down the hall, nearing your compromising position in the dark. The sound rings in your ears until you're forced to press him deeper into the nook, leaving yourself exposed to the soft light save for your arm, which he is lovingly latched to.
"Oh!" The girl warbles, taking a step back when she finally sees you. "It's you."
You recognize her as Ginny Weasley, you'd opposed her many times on the pitch. She looks fairly put together. Lovely, you suppose, not scowling or drenched in sweat the way most Quidditch games end. You're not so sure you have the same effect, dizzy and flustered as you are. Cedric's fingers squeeze yours from his place in the shadows.
"Yes, It's me!" you chirp, "Here I am!" It's like some spirit has possessed you. Some spirit under heavy influence of recreational drugs and endless confections maybe.
"Right," she says, nodding awkwardly and peering into the darkness behind you which traces his fingers over your knuckles and bows to kiss each one. You ought to smack the darkness upside the head for his thorough display of misbehavior. "We should probably go inside, or we'll be late."
"Oh, Merlin—must've lost track of time. I'll catch you inside, I just have something I need to..." you sigh, wiggling your hand out of his featherlight grip and perching it on your hip "I'll just be a minute."
"Alright. I'll let them know you're just...?"
"Getting fresh air!"
"Getting fresh air. Right," Ginny says, backing away towards the office door with a tight-lipped smile. Once the door bangs shut again, you draw Cedric into the light with a scowl to rival hellfire.
It makes his tummy turn with excitement. Makes him feel boyish and fresh and giddy. He can't decide whether he'd like to ravish you or let you ravish him. Either way, he's lucky like shiny pennies or rain on your wedding day. Which reminds him, but that's a story for another day. His soul is solidly and irrevocably tethered to yours whether you accept a metal band on your finger or not. Another day.
"Diggory!" you shout, and he catches your hand as it flies toward his shoulder. He's smiling, laughing at your expense. You think you ought to punish his awfully handsome face with some sort of kiss. An eye for an eye, as they say.
"Getting fresh air? Is that really the first thing that came to your mind?" he says through his laughter, drawing you in by the hips, “I think I should tell you now that the nearest window is at the complete opposite end of the hall!"
"If only I hadn't been distracted—"
But you're bested again by his large, warm hands spread across your lower back. And his smile tempting you. He could get anything he ever wanted with that kind of smile, drawn up at the corners and dimpling his rosy cheeks. Curse him and the tiny flakes of gold flowing through his bloodline.
"You were saying?"
"Nothing! We're late," you mutter, face hot and fingers tight as he's dragged across the way to the door. And as the heavy hinges squeal open, he thinks he'd like to misbehave for you more often so long as you'd string him along forever.

a lover’s ruse — c.d. [1]
Tumblr media
Summary: Your agonizing courtship and Cedric’s need to spite his ex are both ailments that have a very simple cure: a fake relationship, obviously.
⤷ [1] - in which prefect patrols end with a haphazard agreement being reached.
Requested: read the request here
Pairing: Cedric Diggory x fem!gryffindor!reader
Word Count: 3.9K
A/N: I'm so sorry guys. This has been such a long time coming, I'm not sure people are even waiting for this anymore. But this is the first part and I'm thinking of turning it into a full-fledged series. Second part of the fic WILL be out as soon as I'm done exams.
The first few dates were bearable enough  — if you squinted hard and counted the silence as a virtue.
The next few were nothing short of painstakingly harrowing. And that’s being kind.
This one, however? It made you seriously contemplate lunging over the walls of the Astronomy Tower and meeting Death, himself, halfway. Little else could offer greater reprieve, in your mind, from this.
The setting should’ve been romantic, in theory. The night was still, but not stiflingly so, and the moonlight danced around the top of the Tower teasingly, doing little to illuminate the dark. If he stepped into a crevice where the light didn’t reach his face and you tuned him out just enough, you might even call the view beautiful. But, you soon found out – only a few dates in – no view could be described as such when you have Trevor Selwyn standing next to you.
Trevor Selwyn should’ve been a perfect match, in theory. An avid member of the Sacred Twenty-Eight –  there was little else that could prove more pertinent to families, like yours, with snobby ideals of purity and the measures necessary to maintain it, generation after generation – a Slytherin, an athlete (he doesn’t like mentioning that he’s a substitute player, on his best days), and a prefect. And, as you soon found out – only one date in – he’s also an utter and complete idiot.
So, you should’ve said no, in theory. Kicked and flailed your arms like a petulant child, screamed and wailed and protested when your parents proposed a courtship between the two of you. You should’ve told Trevor himself that he possessed the tact of a Cornish Pixie and the wit of the dimmest of trolls. But, as you soon found out (after the wailing episode) – absolutely zero dates in – Trevor is nothing but persistent and your parents anything but unwavering in their resolve.
“I’ve met the Minister once,” he remarks out of nowhere as he looks off, off of the edge of the tower with all the regality of an acclaimed emperor.
You hum in response. You haven’t said a word all night and he hasn’t noticed a thing.
“Granted, I was only two but I recall the Minister telling my father –”
“I think I should head back, actually,” you interrupt before the anecdote can truly begin. There are a few things you’ve learned about Trevor so far but none of them are as glaringly consequential as this: if he starts talking about his father, he won’t be able to stop. Escapades from Uagadou, his adventures in Egypt warding off curses and serpents and the magical scrolls of Machu Picchu –
“Oh,” he furrows his brow as if deep in thought and you almost laugh. That boy has never had a thought in his life.
“I don’t want to be late for prefect patrols is all,” a faux sweet lilt to your voice doesn’t do much to subdue the frown on his face.
He nods curtly. “I’ll walk you back.”
Your refusal is automatic. “I think I’ll mana–”
“It’s no problem,” he starts walking towards the stairs and you’re left with no choice but to follow.
On any other occasion, the walk would’ve taken mere minutes. The hallways would’ve been something theatrical, a soft fusion of candlelight and the streaming moonlight at this time of night. With Selwyn by your side, however, the minutes seemed like hours, and the candlelit corridors, usually golden and warm, felt like the dull glow of a waiting room. Your shoulders ached from how stiffly you held herself as each step echoed louder than the last, as if the castle itself was sighing in disappointment and disdain.
“I had an enjoyable time tonight,” Trevor started when you finally reached and you tried your utter best to hide the discomfort when his clammy hand reached for yours. He brought it to his lips and pressed a single kiss on it before you gave him a tight-lipped smile. You expect him to then turn and go, to walk back down to his own common room but he stays standing there, his face blank.
“Me too,” you smile, in hopes that this was the confirmation he was after. Another lesson you’ve learned about the boy has been this: nothing else pleases him as much as validation does.
He gives some semblance of a smile back. You blink. The next thing you know he has started to lean in and his eyes are fluttering shut and his slightly puckered lips are mere inches from yours now and the ridiculousness of it all proves too much to bear – you guffaw in the most obnoxious way possible. A mixture of anger and hurt crosses his face before he retreats and you’re unsure of how to recover.
“I’m so sorry,” you cover your mouth and try to stop the laughter. “I– I just thought of a funny joke. I’m so–”
“Fix your hair, would you? It looked atrocious today,” he quips quickly to gain control of the situation back. The last thing you’ve learned about the enigma that Selwyn is is this: his superiority cannot be challenged. If it is, he will try to establish it again – by insulting you in the most seemingly hurtful manner.
It doesn’t quite have the desired effect. You snort at his attempt and suddenly the laughter has returned. He exhales once out of his nose as he turns to go but not before calling out, “I will pick you up at the same time tomorrow night. Don’t be late.”
The laughter dwindles at the thought of enduring this again. “I’m busy tomorrow!”
“Don’t be late,” he calls again.
“Charming,” you hear someone call from behind you and you can tell who it is without having to turn and look at his annoyingly perfect face. His clever quips usually carry the extraordinary ability to irk you to no end but after the night you’ve had, they seem especially akin to knives on a chalkboard.
You can picture Cedric Diggory’s earnest yet irritating smile he seems to wear at all times, the kind that makes his honey-coloured eyes crinkle in the slightest way at the edges with no difficulty. You can picture his perfectly ironed robes, clad with pins and awards he has won over the years and his hair that falls in place like dominoes. There’s only ever one way to describe him: pristine. Always.
Though you’d never cared much to exalt him to the status of an academic rival, it’d be foolish to call him anything else. He had a way about him that reeked of complete and utter competence at everything, which indubitably invited a certain degree of resentment from everyone. You were no exception.
And not only did the universe seem keen on making an already-horrible night worse by scheduling him as your prefect patrols partner tonight, it also seemed quite keen on wanting to humiliate you in front of him.
“The gossip that you are, Diggory,” you huff with biting sarcasm as you finally turn to face him. “Using your patrols as a way to spy on unsuspecting young lovers. Classy.” The break of his grin is almost blinding and you have to avert your gaze to avoid damage to your visual field.
“Nothing else entertains me these days as much as your courtship, I’m afraid,” he jests, slipping an easy hand into his pocket. “If you need more time together, I understand. I’m perfectly capable of completing the patrols on my own tonight.”
With your face aflame, you shoot him a look and begrudgingly start walking beside him, arms crossed tightly over your chest like a shield and footsteps hitting stone a bit too sharply.
“How kind of you.” You say curtly and make it a point to walk a few steps ahead of him. He doesn’t seem particularly perturbed by it: he follows a few steps behind you, but the smugness radiating off of him envelops you nonetheless.
“You can laugh, you know,” you say again after a moment of silence. You have long-since learned that the best way to avoid embarrassment is to submit to it. You’ve been courting Selwyn long enough to know it – sheepish smiles exchanged with classmates when he pecks you on the cheek in the hallways, mortified but apologetic grimaces whenever he tries to clasp your hand in his as he walks you to your common room after supper. Judgment – if it must be served – is best served plainly. Overtly.
He shakes his head in amusement as he finally catches up and walks in step with you. “Now, why would I laugh? That was the most romantic thing I’ve ever seen.”
“That was humiliating,” you mutter under your breath before you can stop yourself.
Cedric’s amused smile wavers as he glances at you with something you hope isn’t sympathy. And as much as you hate to say it, it wouldn’t be something you would put above him – for all the determined rebuttals and rivalries in class, Cedric has only ever been infuriatingly kind. “I think Selwyn might be a tad bit more humiliated than you, [Y/L/N].”
“Good. If he ever tries to kiss me again, I might hex him into oblivion and end up as a headline in the Daily Prophet.”
His amusement returns and you’re glad. You’re not sure how to interact with him beyond the usual teasing remarks. “Would it be in bad taste to say that I'd quite want to see that?” His smile only grows when you roll your eyes. “Will you be doing that tomorrow night then? Shall I call the reporters?”
You make a face. “You won’t be grinning that wide when I send a dementor after you from Azkaban, Diggory.”
“Send one after Selwyn. He’s in need of a good kiss.”
Your lips twitch at the joke and Cedric notices the slight movement. You press them together before a full-fledged smile can appear on your face and Cedric revels in it. “You’re not funny.”
“Yes, I’m sure Selwyn’s funnier,” Cedric teases.
“Still not funny.” You take a few quicker steps to walk in front of him again, having had enough of his teasing for the night.
He catches up again and has no particular difficulties keeping up, no matter how much you try to hasten your steps. “Forgive me for prying –”
“I won’t.”
“But, why Selwyn?” The question’s sincerity catches you off-guard.
“What?”
“I just mean – I find it hard to believe that you’re… devoid of options. So…why him?” He picks his words carefully, as if he’s weighing them in his mouth before letting them fall out. And perhaps it was due to the late hour or the undeniable warmth that Cedric’s eyes perpetually hold, but you actually considered giving him a sincere answer.
“He’s–” you pause as you vow to yourself this would be the last display of vulnerability Cedric would be getting from you tonight. Your voice drops despite yourself, and you find your fingers fiddling with the edge of your sleeve. Something about Cedric’s quiet attention makes the truth feel heavier than usual. “He’s my parents’ choice. They want me to graduate with a prospect secured.”
His eyebrows wrinkle in confusion. “If a courtship is what you’re after, I’m sure you’d find better prospects in – pardon my bluntness – anyone else.” His teasing cadence has dropped altogether now and you wrinkle your own eyebrows in confusion as you consider the notion that Cedric might actually be trying to help you.
“It doesn’t matter who–” you pause again. “I don’t plan on marrying him, Cedric.”
Cedric frowns.
You go on, “I’m only ‘courting’ him until graduation to subdue my parents. I won’t marry him so it doesn’t matter who it is.” You squirm in guilt as Cedric stays frowning. “And I realize it’s cruel to string him along – I do – I just – I don’t know what else to do.”
Cedric nods after a while – a slow, courteous nod that indicates he understands but wholly disagrees with whatever you’re saying. It’s a nod you’ve seen from him when he proposes a rebuttal to whatever alternate answer you’ve proposed in class, an alternate solution to a problem and admittedly, a much more pragmatic one.  He opens his mouth to voice it before the sound of giggles fill the empty hallways from around the corner.
You both exchange a prefectly look with each other, acknowledging the obvious student out of bed, awaiting a scolding for being out past curfew. Before you two can approach to see who it is, they turn the corner themselves.
“Evelyn,” Cedric breathes out in surprise as your gaze lands on the familiar brunette-haired girl in your year, her hands firmly clasped in Damien Avery’s, matching love-sick grins plastered on both faces and lipstick stains on the latter’s neck. With their hair dishevelled and robes askew, they blink in stunned silence.
You purse your lips as you look between the two, realization cresting at once. Though Cedric’s dating life was never a particular topic of interest, you immediately recognized the girl as his girlfriend, Evelyn Waters.
Well, ex-girlfriend as of two weeks ago.
“Ced,” his name falls from her smudged, lipstick-stained mouth softly, her eyes widening slightly. She hastily straightens out her robe and runs a hand through her hair. “I–”
Cedric clears his throat awkwardly as he shoots Avery a lingering glare. “It’s an hour past curfew–” He manages to get out, his voice unbelievably even. He keeps his eyes on Avery, not sparing Evelyn another glance.
“I’m a prefect, Diggory. I think we’re fine,” Avery dismisses, stepping around him. He tugs at Evelyn’s hand.
Cedric steps in front of him again, towering over the shorter boy with ease. “Forty points from Slytherin,” he says simply, his eyes uncharacteristically stoic.
Avery scoffs and looks at Cedric in disbelief. “Yeah?” He sneers. “Are you going to take another forty for theft?”
Cedric exhales heavily through his nose at the implication. The night air has suddenly chilled and the tension is so thick, it makes it hard to breathe.
“You know… considering…everything.” Avery smirks, gesturing subtly to Evelyn’s hand he still has clasped within his own. Evelyn watches the exchange silently.
“Considering everything, Avery,” you finally find your voice in the uncomfortable silence and step forward. “I’ll be taking another hundred points away from Slytherin for your misuse of prefect privileges. Expect to hear from Professor Snape tomorrow when I formally file a complaint.”
Avery turns to you, his goblin-green eyes staring into yours for a minute before he narrows them. “This isn’t your fight, [Y/L/N]. Stay out of it.”
“I think you,” you jab a hard finger at his chest, pushing him away slightly, “should stay out of the hallways after curfew. Now, if you’ll excuse us.” You grab Cedric’s arm and tear him away from the pair.
He doesn’t protest when you begin to lead him down a random set of stairs to get away from the scene of the stiff confrontation. Cedric walks a few steps behind you wordlessly as you chance periodic glances to make sure he’s still following. After a few moments, you slow your gait so he can catch up with you.
“Hey,” you jostle him out of his thoughts which seemed to have permanently etched a furrow in his brows as he shuffled his feet across the stone floor.
He sighs, running a quick hand over his face and then stuffing it back into his pocket. “You didn’t have to enjoy that quite so much.”
You frown. “Enjoy what?”
“Do you not normally enjoy my humiliation?” He asks with a teasing lilt in his voice, but the humour stops short of his eyes. You can tell his mind is still stuck elsewhere, replaying that scene over and over.
“I’m not a sadist like you,” you quip.
He offers you a quick smile as if to confirm receipt of your well-intentioned humour, but doesn’t say much else. You walk in uneasy silence once again.
“She’s an idiot,” you say finally. “Just– for the record.”
“Hm.” He smiles wryly again but his eyes hold a heaviness that you don’t like. You can tell the breakup took a greater toll on him than he has let on the past few weeks. And you’re not exactly sure why that weighs down on your heart.
“Seriously, Diggory,” you sigh. “She’s an idiot for breaking up with you and she’s an idiot for getting with Avery.”
He exhales a quiet laugh. “Yeah.”
The heaviness still hung in the air despite your attempts at trying to provide Cedric an outlet to let out his frustration. You scoff internally at his staunch unwillingness to talk ill of anyone – not even his ex-girlfriend who moved on from him in a blink of an eye. You think again of Cedric’s genuine interest in your ‘Selwynian’ plight. You sigh once before shaking your head. Were you really about to help Cedric Diggory?
“You know what? You need to stop that.”
“Stop what?”
“Acting like it doesn’t bother you,” you hit him lightly on the arm. “It bothers you, right?”
He holds your gaze for a moment before nodding. “Yeah. Suppose it does.” He admits quietly.
“Do you want her back?”
He frowns at the question. “What–”
“Do you?”
“Yes,” he breathes out after a while and looks away, as if embarrassed at the confession. You can tell he’s fidgeting with his pockets nervously.
“Then, make her jealous,” you say. “I saw how she was looking at you. She knows she made a mistake. But she won’t admit it because that’s not how it works. Make her jealous and she’ll have to admit it. It’ll get it out of her.”
He looks at you in amusement. “I can’t tell if you’re trying to help me or sabotage me.”
You scoff. “Accept the generosity before I change my mind.”
He shakes his head with a bitter smile, clicking his tongue against his teeth quietly. “That won’t work, anyway.”
“It will,” you assert. “Trust me, Diggory. It will.”
He shakes his head again. “I don’t even know how to–”
“Date someone else,” you supply easily.
“I don’t like anyone else.”
You shoot him an unimpressed look. “No shit. We already established that you still like Evelyn.”
“So, I ask out a girl I’m not actually interested in?” He asks in disbelief, discomfort evident on his face.
“Yeah,” you shrug.
He frowns and pauses, glancing at you with confusion. “That’s cruel beyond belief, [Y/L/N].”
His admonition makes you pause, too. The familiarity of the proposal strikes you at once. It was exactly what you were doing – stringing along a clueless Selwyn until graduation and then breaking his heart without a second thought. The cruelty of it all had always been a nagging thought – but its noise had been distant and dull. It was now ringing in your ears however, your skewed perception of morality hitting you at once.
“It’s not– cruel.” You try to tell yourself, more than him. “It–”
“It’s heartless,” he says again, matter-of-factly. “This, and what you’re doing to Selwyn, by the way.”
You sigh at his moral policing. You knew he was right, but Selwyn was a problem for another night.
“Fine,” you relent. “How about a girl who agrees to be your fake girlfriend?”
He scoffs lightly. “If that were so easy to find, wouldn’t you have gotten a fake boyfriend already?”
You both stop walking at the same time, your footsteps coming to a screeching halt simultaneously. It was almost as if Cedric’s words had materialized and turned into physical roadblocks. His gaze slowly turns to you, honey-brown eyes landing on yours, but you’re already watching him in stunned realization.
“[Y/L/N] –” he begins thoughtfully.
“No. No. Absolutely not.” That look in his eyes — the one like he’s already decided. Like he’s already seen this through to the end. It makes you nervous in a way you can’t name. You start walking ahead of him rather quickly but he catches up to you with no difficulty once again. His long strides match your pace perfectly.
“This was your idea–” He tries to reason again, the sound of hurried footsteps echoing off the walls as he chases after you with a walking stride.
“My idea– was not for us to do that–” you huff out as you keep up the pace, unrelenting.
He finally catches up to you and reaches for your arm, his hand closing gently around your elbow. The warmth of his touch sends a jolt through you, halting your steps more effectively than his words ever could. “It makes sense.”
You blink, momentarily thrown. “No–”
“You won’t have to be needlessly cruel just to keep a prospect around–”
“Cedric.”
“And I won’t have to heartlessly pretend to like a girl who doesn’t know I’m pretending,” his hands find your shoulders. “It makes sense. You know it does.”
“I won’t–”
“And no more nightly dates with Selwyn,” he interrupts. “No more dodging his kisses.”
That finally shuts you up. You shake your head though you can’t find the words to protest anymore. Cedric decides to sweeten the deal further.
“No life sentence in Azkaban, either.”
“Shut up.”
His lips tug upwards slightly and your eyes can’t help but catch on the movement. You let your eyes roam over his face — annoyingly symmetrical, irritatingly warm — and suddenly it hits you how easy it would be to fall into this lie. How dangerously tempting it is to pretend.
“No one would even believe it,” you say weakly. “We hate each other.”
“You mean you hate me?” He smiles dryly. “Because I don’t recall ever hating you.”
You avert your eyes before you start tracing his smile lines again with your gaze. “I just mean– we’re always at each other’s throats.”
“That makes it more believable, don’t you think?”
You shake your head, closing your eyes. “It’s a bad idea–”
You don’t get to finish your sentence before a familiar owl flies overhead and perches itself on the ledge next to you, clutching a letter. It doesn’t take long for you to realize who it’s from – the intricate green envelope and Selwyn family crest catching your eye immediately.
Cedric raises an eyebrow as he holds back a smirk. You grumble under your breath before plucking the letter from the owl begrudgingly.
“Aren’t you going to open it?” He questions as he stifles a smile.
“No,” you huff in annoyance. “He … sends these every night. A ‘goodnight poem’, he calls them.”
Cedric doesn’t say anything, his grin already revealing he knows what your next words will be.
You glance at the letter again — Selwyn’s cursive looping like a snake about to bite. What were you even doing?
You sigh, knowing exactly what this meant. “Fine. Let’s do it.” You cast the ignition spell, watching the green wax seal curl into smoke. “Let’s date.”
He blinks. “Wait — really?”
“Don’t make me change my mind.”
His grin returns, slow and lopsided. “Pretend to date,” he corrects.
“What?”
“We’re pretending,” he says cheekily, your cheeks aflame at his teasing cadence. "Don’t fall in love with me, [Y/L/N].”
With a determined roll of your eyes, you turn on your heel. “As if, Diggory.”

The Harry Potter Pretty People's Club
I’ve always been kind of fascinated by how and why *attractiveness* is used in the HP books. So, I’ve decided to play a little game, and score up characters based on how often their prettiness is brought up. Here’s my scoring system:
(1 point) - We are straight-up told that this character (or some aspect of this character) is attractive. The word beautiful, handsome, attractive, elegant, pretty, lovely, good-looking, good looks, nice-looking, curvy, or gorgeous is used.
(.5 points) - We are specifically told the character has nice hair, or nice teeth. (JKR describes teeth a lot, it’s a thing.)
(.5 points) - The character is described as moving in an attractive way. The word lounging, lolling, graceful, posing, or haughty (so lounging/posing, but more evil coded) is applied to them
In terms of the ranking, twins and and parent+child duos get to compete together, because how common “they looked exactly like their parent” type descriptions are in these books.
No points for “they used to be beautiful” or “they would be beautiful if...” Also no points if someone is described as attractive specifically by Rita Skeeter. We are clearly not supposed to take her as a reliable source. Also not counting the times Petunia calls Dudley “handsome,” or the time when Slughorn calls Ron handsome while trying to cheer him up after the love potion, for the same reason.
(if you’re curious, Rita does describe Hermione as “stunningly pretty,” Pansy as “pretty and vivacious,” herself as “attractive blonde, forty-three” and Harry as “the most beautiful thing she had ever seen” when he’s giving the interview about Voldemort’s return.) So let's get to the top 26 most attractive (?) characters in Harry Potter.
#26 - WILKIE TWYCROSS (.5)
“Graceful” apparition instructor. Unfortunately the rest of his description stresses that he’s practically see-through.
#25 - MADAM PUDDIFOOT  (.5)
Has shiny hair. Unfortunately also “very stout” (and unfortunately we we know how JKR feels about fat people  : / )
#24 - ROMILDA VANE (.5)
Has hair that is “black and shiny and silky.” Of course Ron does say that while zoinked out his mind on love potion, so not sure how reliable his report is.
#23 - HORACE SLUGHORN (.5)
Young Horace has “thick, shiny, straw-colored hair.” He’s also rocking embroidered waistcoats with golden buttons. Idk, I bet Horace was kind of dishy back in the day. Heck, I bet he still is. He’s well dressed, charismatic, charming. Someone has a crush on him. JKR is just mean and wrong about fat people
#22 - NEARLY HEADLESS NICK (1)
Has “elegant” hands. So, if you’re into that…
 #21 - ANDROMEDA TONKS (1)
Andromeda’s sisters are not actually going to make the list, because they fall in the “beauty potential” category. Narcissa “would have been nice-looking if she hadn’t been wearing a look that suggested there was a nasty smell under her nose,” and the “long blonde hair streaming down her back gave her the look of a drowned person.” I love Narcissa, but that framing isn’t especially flattering. Bellatrix was once beautiful, but “something — perhaps Azkaban — had taken most of her beauty.” Now if Andromeda looks enough like Bellatrix to give Harry a double-take, and she looks like a Bellatrix with “wider, kinder eyes” who hasn’t been to Azkaban… she more than earns her place on the pretty list. Also is described as “haughty.”
#20 - ANGELINA JOHNSON (1)
“Rather attractive” according to Lee Jordan. Seems to wear micro box-braids, which Pansy says look like “worms.” Boo Pansy (who is not on this list.)
#19 - PERCIVAL, KENDRA & ALBUS DUMBLDORE (2)
Percival is “good-looking,” Albus has shiny hair, and Kendra is “haughty.” I’ll buy that the Dumbledores were a pretty striking family, that makes sense . But they rank a little low because they all only have one attractive descriptor apiece.
#18 - OLYMPE MAXIME (2)
She’s an elegant frenchwoman. The only lady on this list described as “handsome.” Also graceful, has shiny hair, and Hagrid is very into her.
#17 - PARVATI & PADMA PATIL (2)
Both of them look “very pretty” in their Yule Ball dress robes, and are quickly snapped up by Beauxbatons boys when Harry and Ron ignore them.
#16 -  FIRENZE (2)
The “handsome centaur.” Also the only character described as “gorgeous” (by Parvati.) At which point Hermione scoffs and says that he’s got four legs. By which we can deduce that Hermione is a bit vanilla for this conversation.
#15 - BILL WEASLEY (2)
Described as “good-looking” and “handsome” by Mrs. Weasley, and of course FLEUR is very into him very quickly. I considered adding “cool” to my list of words connoting attractiveness, which would have bumped Bill higher… but JKR seems to associate “cool” more with personality. Like Mad-Eye and Hagrid are “cool” without being especially pretty.
#14 - GELLERT GRINDELWALD (2)
Briefly seen in a memory and a photograph, described as “handsome” both times.
#13 - LILY POTTER (2)
A “very pretty woman” and a woman with a “kind, pretty face.” Like with Andromeda, JKR throws in “kind” to make sure we know this is good-pretty, one step up from the Patil twins who are girly-pretty (sorry Patil twins.)
#12 - LUCIUS & DRACO MALFOY (2.5)
They have super sleek hair. It’s brought up a lot. Pansy likes to pet it.
#11 - BLAISE’S MOM & BLAISE ZABINI (2.5)
Blaise’s mom is a “famously beautiful witch,” who “had been married seven times, each of her husbands dying mysteriously and leaving her mounds of gold.” Fanon needs to decide on a name for her, and I think Clytemnestra is the right amount of on-the-nose. Blaise himself is described as haughty, and picky, and tends to “pose” and “loll against pillars.”
#10 - MADAM ROSMERTA (3)
Attractive, pretty, and the only character who is “curvy.” (I think she might have the boobs of Harry Potter universe.) Also wears sparkly turquoise heels, which is cute. Ron is into her, and so (I think) is Cornelius Fudge. I mean -  “Rosmerta, m’dear… lovely to see you again, I must say. Have one [drink] yourself, won’t you? Come and join us.” Like, that’s flirty, right?
#9 - ROWENA & HELENA RAVENCLAW (4)
Surprising that they crack the top ten, but every time we see an image of them they are described as beautiful. Usually with a qualifier like “austere” or “intimidating.” Beautiful is a word with a little bit of an edge to it in this universe. Beautiful people are just… a little suspect.
#8 - GILDEROY LOCKHART (5.5)
Very handsome, good hair, good teeth. The teeth are honestly brought up enough to feel a little off-putting and predatory, which I think is exactly the point. Lockhart is a very 90s-Disney-movie queer-coded villain. But, he is extremely good looking (or at least very well put-together.) Mrs. Weasley and Hermione both have crushes on him, and he continues to get fan mail into his St. Mungo’s days.
#7 - GINNY WEASLEY (5.5)
Ginny’s an odd one. She’s described as “graceful,” popular, and “a lot of boys like her,” (according to Pansy.) Honestly, that’s mostly how we experience her beauty. Krum thinks she’s attractive, Blaise thinks she’s attractive, Amycus addresses her as “Pretty” in a creepy way, and so does some random Diagon alley amulet salesman. Both Harry and the narrative voice stay pretty quiet when it comes to thirsting over Ginny. We get the honestly very conflicted description “Ginny gave Harry a radiant smile: He had forgotten, or had never fully appreciated, how beautiful she was, but he had never been less pleased to see her” and then “Ginny and Gabrielle, both wearing golden dresses, looked even prettier than usual [at Fleur’s wedding].” Which isn’t even completely about Ginny! Maybe you could count the romantic descriptions of her hair being flamelike or on one occasion “dancing,” but that’s really it. I am doing my very best, and scraping the bottom here.
#6 - HERMIONE GRANGER (7.5)
Hermione seems to fall firmly into the “cleans up nice” category. She is the “pretty girl in blue robes” at the Yule Ball, looking good enough that Pansy gapes and Malfoy “didn’t seem to be able to find an insult to throw at her.” She’s also looking good at Fleur’s wedding, when Viktor and Ron are definitely interested. Her hair can look elegant and shiny if she puts in effort - otherwise it’s bushy, and Pansy compares her to a chipmunk. We also know she has large front teeth, before she gets them fixed. She occasionally gets a “graceful” or “haughty" description, and Greyback does creep on her (again with the creeping!) calling Hermione Harry’s “pretty little friend.” I also gave her half a point for the description of Horcrux!Hermione, who is “more beautiful and yet more terrible than the real Hermione.” That’s another good example of how JKR uses the word “beautiful,” and I guess “more beautiful” definitely implies some existing beauty.
#5 - CHO CHANG (8)
Cho is very pretty. She’s often described that way, and she has long shiny black hair. She naturally pairs up with Cedric, who also scored an 8. I wish I had more to say about her, I really do.
#4 - CEDRIC DIGGORY (8)
Our first “pretty boy" - he’s described that way by both Harry and Seamus. Seamus actually seems to kind of have a thing about Cedric. He doesn’t believe Cedric put his name in the Goblet of Fire because “I wouldn’t have thought he’d have wanted to risk his good looks.” And true, Cedric is “exceptionally handsome, with his straight nose, dark hair, and gray eyes” and probably our first extraordinarily pretty person. Angelina and Katie think he’s hot, Myrtle creeps on him - although, honestly - Myrtle creeps on everyone, and the text doesn’t take it very seriously. Interestingly in the film we get a moment of Voldemort turning over Cedric’s head with his bare foot, saying “Oh, such a handsome boy” - to which Harry replies “Don’t touch him!”  That’s a subtle difference - in the books it’s only threatening when girls get creeped on, the movies are a little more equal opportunity.
#3 - SIRIUS & REGULUS BLACK (11)
Sirius is hot. He’s “carelessly handsome,” his “dark hair fell into his eyes with a sort of casual elegance neither James’ nor Harry’s could ever have achieved.” He rolled out of bed looking this good. Sirius is graceful and lounging and bored as hell, but you know “handsomely so.” Even when he falls through the Veil, it’s a “graceful,” beautiful death. Regulus gets a shout-out too, because he “had the same dark hair and slightly haughty look of his brother, though he was smaller, slighter, and rather less handsome than Sirius had been.” But, as is mentioned nearly every time he appears on the page, Sirius is extremely handsome. Less handsome than Sirius is still handsome.
I think it’s actually important to Sirius’ character that he is THAT beautiful. Sirius is a kid from a very bad environment who’s one bad day away from just snapping… but you’d never know it. He’s so attractive, he’s so effortlessly talented, he hides everything so well. Of course none of the adults in his life would be worried about him.
#2 - FLEUR, GABRIELLE & APPOLINE DELACOUR (12.5)
Fleur almost seems like a cheat, because she is supernaturally beautiful. She is “a woman of such breathtaking beauty that the room seemed to have become strangely airless. She was tall and willowy with long blonde hair and appeared to emanate a faint, silvery glow.” Even Aunt Muriel thinks she’s beautiful. (We also do get told that Fleur has nice teeth.)
But again, she’s beautiful. She’s that slightly threatening, too-feminine beauty. Until she gets married… and has a kid… which redeems her. “While [Fleur’s] radiance usually dimmed everyone else by comparison, today [at her wedding] it beautified everybody it fell upon.”
#1 - TOM RIDDLE SR. & TOM RIDDLE JR. (14)
Our clear winner, and also our second “pretty boy.” (Marvolo calls Tom Sr. “pretty,” and Tom Jr. is “his handsome father in miniature.” so yes, Voldemort does count as a pretty boy.) Poor Tom Sr. - the text frames the aftermath of his sexual assault as him “abandoning” his wife, but unfortunately that falls into the wider trend of only girls being victims of creeps in the HP books. It’s like the weird detail about the stairs to the dormitories - the girls can go to the boys dormitory, but not vice-versa.
But yeah. Tom Riddle’s attractiveness is brought up almost every time he is. We even get details - we specifically know he lost weight and grew his hair out after he left school, and it looked super good on him. Hepzibah Smith is very into him, Bellatrix is very into him. (Although I do wonder just how snakey he looked when they met.) Adult Voldemort doesn’t treat the loss of his looks as any kind of sacrifice, he seems well rid of them. They’re just another annoying aspect he wants to shed on his quest for transhumanism. He gets rid of his father’s name, it only makes sense he would want to get rid of his looks as well. I do like the detail that his original eyes live inside the Locket, that is cool and creepy.
(but, logically, I can only assume that means his original nose lives inside the Cup.)
